i know this has been said already but nothing makes my blood boil like the fact that savannah steyn who played teenage laena would’ve been a perfect casting choice for adult laena. laena was only 26 when she died. she’s supposed to be three years younger than rhaenyra and alicent, both of whom — as we’re reminded time and time again — were children being groomed by adult men. but we’re casting adult actresses to play laena so i guess she’s mature enough and not a victim of grooming too?

Re: 11 and river - my biggest problem with this storyline is that for this relationship to work, 11 should be equally as obsessed with her as she is with him. Otherwise it’s simply her having her whole life revolve around him and him being flattered by it. We are told (not shown) that they are great loves but we don’t see the journey of him falling in love with her, or even longing for her. What we actually see onscreen is that the sort of fixation/“i can’t stay away from you no matter how hard i try” yearning that we are meant to believe the doctor has with river, he actually has for Amy. hell, in season 7 he basically throws River under the bridge with the weeping angel because of Amy. It’s Amy who, for all intents and purposes, is 11’s great love (co-signed by matt smith), and it’s weird that the show keeps pussyfooting around it and trying to distract us with forced married couples.

they try and smooth the whole thing over by throwing in some pet names and flirting but the foundation of their relationship was never solidly built and it rings hollow. like it’s actually embarrassing how little character river has when you take the doctor out of the equation.

the 11amy failmarriage parallels!! amy is being forced into marriage because she feels like it’s the correct step in her journey to grow up and assimilate into society, even though she can never fully actualize the person that she wants to be, either with or without the doctor. and eleven has been literally manipulated by time itself into marrying river song in some fucked up predestined cosmic horror type of way.

I cannot believe there are people out there who legitimately hold the belief that Matt Smith is the BEST New Who Doctor. Like I’m sorry? But Doctor’s Nine and Ten have such depth. They are war veterans. They are angry. They are in love. They are grieving. They bought Rose Tyler a red bicycle when she was seven. They can make starving children laugh during air raids. They’ve were a father once, and it shows.

And Eleven acts like he’s never spent any extended time with humanity (thinking of the James Cordon episodes specifically, but also a lot of the others). He could not be trusted to babysit a child, let alone be parent to one. He never thinks about the past, and it’s like all his relationships in the series before have no effect on him.

He becomes quirkier but it’s at the expense of so much previous character development that it hurts.
