The Batman: Not a Rip-Off of Chris Wozniak, But Still Dark AF

Remember all that drama about plagiarism and "The Batman from writer Chris Wozniak?" Yeah, that whole mess is over. Turns out, Matt Reeves' dark and gritty take on the Caped Crusader wasn't a stolen story after all. A judge just threw out a lawsuit claiming the film jacked its plot from some dude's 90s script. This artist named Christopher Wozniak tried to throw some shade at Warner Bros., saying they ripped off his story "The Ultimate Riddle" (now called "The Blind Man's Hat") for The Batman. He claimed there were just too many similarities to be a coincidence! Stuff like the Riddler being a psycho killer hating on Gotham's corruption, and a scene where Bruce Wayne gets a nasty surprise about Alfred. A Judge Has Something To Say But the judge wasn't buying it. He basically said that Wozniak's story itself was a copyright violation because it used Batman and other DC characters without permission. Ouch. Double whammy for Chris Wozniak! On top of that, the judge pointed out that detective stories with serial killers and shocking twists are, well, kind of a dime a dozen. Think "Se7en" and it show that it's not exactly the most original concept out there. The judge basically ruled that there wasn't any proof Warner Bros. even saw Wozniak's script, let alone stole from it. Case closed! Wozniak's lawyer says they might appeal, but for now, The Batman is officially plagiarism-free. The Batman: Streaming Now, Sequel on the Way So, if you haven't seen The Batman yet, you can catch it on Max. More and more people are coming forward with their versions of what happened with Captain Crunch. In the late 1970s, when Blaze was only in eighth or ninth grade, Draper became aggressive about sharing in those “exercises.”īlaze was freaked out, or “creeped” out, and dropped contact, but then Draper allegedly started stalking him - claimed to be a relative to take Blaze out of school and even tapped his family’s phone. As Ars pointed out, the respected cryptography professor Matt Blaze took to Twitter with his story. The article on BuzzFeed has caused numerous people to tell their own stories about Draper. The founder of the Houston Security Conference told Ars Technica that Draper had been scheduled to speak in April 2018, but he has now been “disinvited.” ToorCon also said the 74-year-old Captain Crunch will be banned from attending future conferences. Per DefCon’s Code of Conduct, this kind of behavior will result in a permanent ban from our events. The behavior described in these allegations is appalling and has no place in our community. We applaud those individuals bravely stepping forward to tell their stories. But now, organizers of DefCon are taking a stand in regard to Draper’s alleged unwanted sexual advances. In 2013, a team at DefCon called itself “Too Old for Cap’n Crunch.” A DefCon spokesperson said the conference had never received a formal complaint, yet some of the “goons” at DefCon would reportedly intercede on behalf of the minors and escort young men out of Draper’s company.Ī person can get by with a lot at hacker conferences, meaning it would take beyond a lot to get banned. Steve Wozniak claimed Draper tried that with Steve Jobs in the 1970s, but Jobs was not interested in helping Draper “exercise by sitting on Draper’s back.”Īlthough many in the security community were aware of Draper’s predatory actions and accusations that he was a pedophile, he wasn’t banned from attending conferences. “In multiple cases in which the men agreed, Draper would leap on their backs in ways the men described as unwanted sexual contact.” People knew about Draper's inappropriate behavior for years “These included him massaging men in public and urging them to come to his or their hotel room for private sessions,” BuzzFeed reported. If a teenage man took Draper up on the private invitation, it would reportedly lead to Draper’s request for them to participate in “energy” exercises. The article includes stories from six men with knowledge of Draper “habitually meeting young, often teenage men at conferences between 19.” Other people in the Twitter conversations said allegations of inappropriate behavior by Draper have been discussed online by alleged victims for over two decades.įast forward to last Friday when BuzzFeed published an article about Draper using his status as Captain Crunch while at security conferences to lure minors to his hotel room. One of the now-deleted tweets suggested “Captain Crunch is basically the Kevin Spacey of infosec.” Another referred to Draper’s actions as an “open secret,” adding, “If you run an event where Captain Crunch attends, ensure a member of staff is assigned to keep teenage boys away from him.” (No, I’m not linking to archived versions of them, since the researchers later deleted those tweets.) Tweets by security researchers about Draper’s “predatory behavior” first caught my attention in early November. Due to accusations of sexual misconduct, legendary hacker John Draper, aka Captain Crunch, has been banned from attending several hacker conferences.

I had a very long very weird dream last night. In one part I was staying in this weird time hotel where I was confronted with past versions of famous comics before they found their look and voice. Joe Lycett was particularly sad as he was in the closet (not literally- he was a lift attendant in the weird steampunk lift) and James Acaster had long shaggy hair. I was carrying the feature wall which hangs in my room out with me and dropped a load of buttons on the floor. When I was outside there was a weird section where I was constantly in and out of water, by the seashore then in the sea, and i kept seeing animals like geese eating other animals like lizards, live and whole. I was careening on a torrent of water like a rapid but it was going through an old town like the old part of Exeter. There were a set of ruins like human jaw bones in rows upon rows, and Rhod Gilbert was explaining something to me, then more water came in waves and I had to get out of the way. As I dodged around the corner I got a sense of deja vu, and jumped up on a ledge near a fence as I sensed something bad was coming. Mike Wozniak and Matt Berry were there both dressed in white coats as doctors. I shouted “Michael!” as a warning as suddenly a load of mini coopers - old ones - as rally cars came careening along the dirt road below the ledge upon which we were all stood. Just in time Mike dived into the opposite hedge, protecting himself from the cars and careening bits of debris that they threw up everywhere in their wake.

There was also another section before all that where I saw in a dark gritty live action reboot of Rugrats where the kids were in their 30s. We were in a kind of seedy diner in Chicago or something, there was a river and a lot of freight in the background on a river or lake.

I watched the season 2 finale of Shades of Blue the other day and it was really awesome!

I can’t believe Stahl kidnapped Harlee and put her in a corset, he’s such a pervert, he couldn’t even put her in decent clothes. She’s literally indecent lol.

Woz got Julia to admit what she had done on tape and she had just won the election, after what else had been said on TV of the evidence to take her down. She got taken away by the cops as well after all she had done.

Woz was going to go and look for Harlee, after finding out where Stahl was holding her, and that street kid from before came in saying his mom had been taken or something and then he took a gun out of his backpack right there in the station and shot Woz in front of everyone! D:

OMG, I did not see that coming!

Harlee managed to escape Stahl by cutting her wrist and making it bleed on a screw on the back of the chair he had zip tied her to so that he took them off her, and then she pretended to be knocked out and knocked him out or whatever and ran off. Promptly running in to a tree after running out of the door which was somewhat amusing, and just shows even if you are running for your life you should really look where it is you’re going, as falling over and getting up takes a little time and effort you might not really have. 

Then she ended up falling to the ground from blood loss and she’s out in the middle of nowhere, so how is anyone else gonna find her in time? if Woz et al can’t get there now with what happened to him.

OMG like the last few minutes of The Wilde Flowers by Opeth totally goes with the last few minutes of it with all the craziness that was going on! D: 

I just wanted to take screencaps and muted it to listen to the song and wow, it just all went too beautifully! I want someone else to try it and tell me how right I am lol. 

I should be one of those people who picks what songs they should use for TV shows! lol.

And Harlee and Wozniak can't die.

I can’t wait to see season 3! <3
