Marlboro
matsuda touta x black!m! reader
contains: fluff, mentions of cigarettes/smoking, a reader thats the opposite of matsuda personality wise. also, engaged to your bosses (adopted)son (whose like a yr younger than you) this will be in matsuda's point of view lolz also, theres most def a lack of black targetted fanfics so this fanfic is targetted towards my fellow black death note fans.
Unedited (as usual)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I looked at M/N as he lit his cigarette. It wasn't his usual pack of Marlboro though. It was something different. Something not as strong as the ones he usual buys. I watched as let the smoke out through his nose and tilted his head back. He always did that when he was calm. I took a moment to take in his disheveled state. M/N had barely gotten any rest since we took the Kira case. His shirt was unbuttoned and tie lossened.
Even his usually styled hair was out of place. He was gorgeous even now. I wonder how soft his skin is right now. It was such a beautiful brown colour. Chief Yagami's voice interrupted my thoughts. I snapped my head over to the papers that I had accidently neglected whilst admiring M/N. "M/N??" Called Chief Yagami. "Son, can you go and grab us all something cold to drink?" M/N nodded his head before taking another puff of his cigarette and putting it out.
"I would be pleased if you brought me some tea" said L from his chair. With a sleepy glare, M/N responded with a small yes before making his way to Light. "Anything for you, brother dearest?" He said sarcastically as he placed his hands on Light's shoulders. "Get off me, you smell like smoke and its hot" with a pull of his ear, M/N made his way to the elevator. There was about 8 of us in the room meaning he wouldn't have enough hands for all the drinks.
"Wait up, M/N!" I said while placing my pen down. "I'll come with you!! I'll help you bring the drinks up" He glanced at me quickly before nodding. I quickly made my way to the elevator and stood there. Though Light said he smelt like cigarettes, he smelled different. Sweeter. But something like roasted apples. I can't quite explain it. I looked over to him as he lit another cigarette. He was truly the most beautiful human being I've ever seen.
The elevator made a ding sound and opened up for us. We both stepped in and I watched as M/N pressed the button for us to go down. It was quiet. But I was used to the silence. Of course, we spoke everyday yet he still maintained a silent attitude when we're around the others. He would tell me stories like how Chief adopted him at a young age and how life was before he was adopted. The sound of his voice was almost like a drug. Addictive.
There was a sudden rumble of the elevator. The lights began flickering and I felt M/N grab onto my waist and pull me towards him. "Matsuda? Are you okay?" We could've fallen to our deaths yet his voice was still smooth and intoxicating. "Y-yes" I managed to mutter out. He hesitantly let go of me and looked down at his phone. "The heat must've caused a power outage or something. And I'm all out of juice" I pulled my phone out of my pocket. "Dammit, no bars here"
With another puff of his cigarette, M/N slid down onto the floor. The sight of him smoking was calming. It almost made me forget we were stuck. "We'll just have to wait it out, Matsuda. Untill then, Lets just chill for a bit" He pushed his sleeves up and laid back. He took another puff of the cigarette and grumbled. The cig was most definitely done for, so he pulled out another one. I watch as he lit his lighter up and covered the flame.
When he's done, he slips the lighter into the pocket of his shirt. "Matsuda?" The sound of my name wakes me up out of my trance. "Wanna take a puff or something? You look lost there" I look at M/N and think for a bit. "Sure, I guess" I sit next to him and lean into his body. He guides the cigarette to my lips and waits for me to inhale it. I lean in further and catch it inbetween my lips.
"Hold it" he saids to me. "Don't inhale it yet. Just hold it in your mouth" he removes the cigarette and leans in. He kisses me softly. As if I were fragile and could break. He always touches me like this. When he pulls away, he inhales and lets the smoke fall out of his mouth and nose. "Do you want the rest of it?" I shake my head and make myself comfortable sitting next to him. I feel as his head lands on my shoulder. He places the cigarette back inbetween his lips.
"Why did you switch so suddenly?" I asked, breaking the comfortable silence. "What do you mean?" "Brands" M/N looked at me and brought his hand to my face. "Because these taste like you"
Holy hell, I'm glad to be in love and engaged to such a handsome man.

An old friend of Giyuu
Just a short drabble
Tumblr media
“Come on Mitsuri, just hold it longer,” Obani spoke as the two were leaning against each other.
“For fuck sake! My fuckin’ back!” Sanemi complain as he had Shinobu did her best to wrap the large slash on his back in the minimal amount of bandages she had.
“It’ll be alright. We’ll get home soon.” Shinobu spoke as her eyebrows knitted together, her legs feeling weak, she almost fell by Tengen caught her.
“We can’t keep this up for the whole walk home,” Tengen suggested looking back at the semi-new kids, Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu. “They’re exhausted, we’re exhausted. I suggest we stay somewhere flamboyant-”
Giyuu stayed quiet as he looked up, his crow coming down quickly and landing on his hand.
Giyuu looked at the bird with his bland eyes, petting the bird lightly with his bruised hand. “Please, see that Y/n can make room for us at her home,” Giyuu asked as the bird nodded.
“There’s twelve of us. Including a demon, but she’s not harmful.” Giyuu told the bird and then flew off as he soared into the night sky.
“You’re talking to your girlfriend in a time like this?” Muchiro stated bluntly.
Giyuu stayed quiet as he looked forward awaiting an answer from the crow as they walked forward, within twenty minutes the crow had arrived, with a scroll in hand and another bird with it.
“Gomei,” Giyuu spoke as the second bird landed on Giyuu’s head, it’s feathers like ice with a chain around its neck.
His own bird dropped the scroll in Giyuu’s hands as he opened it up.
“Well, what a beautiful bird!” Rengoku smiled as the bird glided over to the fire pillar, taking a seat on his head.
“Wow! It’s an Ice Phoenix! I’m surprised he’s taking a seat on your head! But they melt into ice if they bring-”
Tanjiro was interrupted as the bird melted into a large puddle of water, making Rengoku laugh happily as if he wasn’t beaten to a pulp and bleeding.
“What a great personality! I bet the owner is just as Spunky!” Rengoku spoke happily as he held a smile on his face.
“She’s allowing us over, she said she’s busy so meet her in the rice fields,” Giyuu spoke out.
“That’s just past the trees,” Tengen informed.
“She must be sweet! If she’s allowing us over even when she’s busy!” Mitsuri gushed. “We have to repay her.”
Giyuu sighed, “Good luck with that I tried.” he mumbled.
“What was that?” Shinobu teased
“We should get going,” Giyuu spoke as he walked forward the others looked at each other and pressed forward as well.
The walk was short as they made it to the rice fields, where they heard kids running around. Yelling for each other as one couldn’t catch each other, there was a splash of water as the kids jumped in the empty water bank from already being harvested. The group stood at the edge of the forest looking out as they noticed the only adult in the next bank, a child on her back and a large basket on her head as she tossed stalks into it carefree as if she had done it day in and day out. The pillars started walking slowly fatigue really catching up with them now, the kids noticed as they quickly exited the empty bank and ran towards the woman as quickly as possible.
“Y/n! Y/n!” They called out as they quickly slid into the water to hide behind her.
“Huh?” She asked turning her head, as she saw the two kids scared out there minds.
“They have swords! They’re gonna hurt you!” the kids cried.
“Now when have I ever let anything happen to any of us.” she smiled as tears brimmed there eyes,” Stay behind me and I’ll take care of it.”
They only nodded as they hid in the water as she climbed up the slope with her full basket as Rengoku rushed over, helping her by grabbing the basket.
“Oh- Thank you-” She paused looking at him.
 “Your face! It’s all cut up! Is this dry blood?” She asked grabbing his cheek softly and trying to rub some off lightly. “ Come! come! I’ll take you to my house! Oh god, you poor baby!” She ushered.
“Y/n.”
She turned her head seeing Giyuu standing there covering her mouth she looked at the wreck of a state her friend was in. “Oh, Giyuu…”
He gulped as he slightly started to sweat, as she walked up to him holding his face in her hands. “You’re all beat up…” She looked as she was about to cry tears as she snapped.
“YOU PIECE OF CRAP! HOW DARE YOU!” She slapped his face, making the pillars jump. “HOW DARE YOU COME TO ME IN YOUR STATE OF CONDITION! ALL BEAT UP! YOU KNOW I CARE YOU BITCH!”
She grabbed his face against and pulled him into a quick hug, tears brimming her eyes as Giyu sighed his cheeks a slight red.
“Please! All! Hurry I’ll allow you to my house! And then! I’ll drop the kids off! I’ll tend to all your wounds! No charge!” She cheered pulling Giyuu along while the others still stood there, while she passed by Rengoku she put the basket back on her head and then gestured them all to follow her.
“Kids! They’re safe! There my old friends! Remember the stories!”
They soon when from terrified to stars in their eyes, they were told great tales about the pillars from Y/n and certainly were indulged in becoming one themselves as the group followed Y/n.
“Wait! Wait! I wanna stay! Please! I wanna meet the loudest Pillar! He’s awesome!” The young boy shouted pulling on Y/n’s arm.
“No! The water pillar obviously better!” The girl protested.
“Yeah! Well, no one likes the water pillar!”
“Everybody likes the water pillar! He’s friends with everybody!”
The two kids growled at each other.
“yeah well, there’s the mist pillar! he’s just as awesome!” The boy protested.
“So is the snake pillar!” The girl argued.
“And the stone pillar!” They shouted at each other.
“The wind pillar can fly!” they shouted.
“Stop copying me!”
“The Insect pillar is the smartest!” The boy argued.
“yeah duh!  the love pillar is the prettiest! and shes strong!” The girl defended.
“Yeah! I know that!” The boy shouted.
“Matsuda.” Y/n stated as the boy looked up at her, “Aiko.” Y/n smiled as the girl looked up at her, and the baby whined.
“And Riku.” Y/n smiled the baby cheered happily as the pillars listened.
“You’re forgetting a pillar.” Y/n spoke.
Giyuu looked blankly at her, “Please don’t get them started yelling about-”
“THE FLAME PILLAR!” They shouted on key as they jumped up and down.
“Such fan girls and boys…” Shinobu laughed lightly.
“I believe they’re much louder than any form I have. It’s flamboyant! I love it!” Tengen smiled.
Rengoku secretly listened in on the two, as they compared on how awesome the flame pillar was, as they walked to the house.
“Sorry if there loud the place in a bit of a mess, but I’ll fix you all up and then we can eat.” Y/n apologized as they all entered the house, each of them collapsing on the front room door not able to hold their selves up anymore.
“Kids! Take your shoes off hurry! Put Aniko in her bed for now with some toys, get me water and some wash clothes while I get the medicine.” Y/n stated as the kids did as asked taking the baby and running off as carefully as possible to get what their caregiver had asked.
 She quickly did the same taking her shoes off as she set the basket down and ran to get the medical supplies. Quickly the kids and Y/n returned with the needed supplies.
“We’ll get you cleaned up here let you rest a bit, you all must be so exhausted- then we’ll get you separate rooms if you want, or would you all like to be in the same room?” Y/n asked.
“Ah, you’re so sweet.” Mitsuri blushed.
“Y/n is one of the main skilled people I know that’s not in the demon slayer corps- “ Giyuu  winced as Y/n cleaned up his face, soon wiping his hands as well.
“you’ll need a set of small stitches…” Y/n spoke as she wrapped his hand in cloth bandages, “That should hold it, for now, don’t straggle your breathing.”
Next, she moved on to Tengen the kids helping with the occasional new water and clean cloth bandages as she moved as quick as possible trying to patch everyone up decently until she could spend more time on one person. When she got to Rengoku last she lightly rubbed the blood off his face, he closed an eye as she wiped over the half of his face then his hand, and asked is he had any major injuries, Rengoku only replied with a nothing I can’t handle as and smiled., but when she smiled at him he felt his eyes soften, her smile was sincere and worry-full, yet she had never met the man in her life. She got up and cleaned her own hands and then helped each one of them up. They slipped there shoes off as they already felt better.
“I’ll cook some food, you all can wait in the dining room and I’ll bring it out.” She smiled.
Helping each of them up the small steps if needed, yet Tanjriro, Zenitsu along with an out of the box Nezuko, and forced Inosuke stopped, asking if you needed help. Worried about them, you only told them if they wanted they could watch the kids, saying Matsuda knew how to make bracelets and Aiko would teach them how to paint if they wanted to know. Meanwhile, Riku would most likely be asleep already. They agreed to help you and went to watch the two kids, while you cooked.
She was rushing to put some type of substance back in the pillars bodies. She quickly made rice, she rushed outside to the backyard and picked some vegetables. Rengoku came out and helped.
“You don’t need to, go with your friends and rest.” Y/n spoke taking the basket with her hands away from him.
“I don’t have to do a lot of things, but you’ve saved my friends and I from serious injuries, maybe even death.” Rengoku spoke, “Plus, it would be rude not to help.”
Y/n looked down at the basket. “Okay..then could you help by watching your white haired friend to me. He seems aggravated. I don’t want him popping his stitches open.”
“Gladly.”

SunaOsa fanfic recs: valentines edition~~
SunaOsa is one of my all time favorite ships and this past month, there has been/was an exchange going on between writers (here is the link) and artists (separately) and because I don’t have a life (or maybe it’s just that SunaOsa is my life LOL), I’m here to tell you some of my favorite fics from the pile :D However, as much as I love a ship, sometimes fluff is too asajndajnd so mind you there will probably be a lot of good fics missing just cause I couldn’t get myself to read more fluff (or angst) LOL (IM SORRY but sometimes I also just can’t motivate myself to read a fic no matter how good it looks OOPS).
As always, please check warning and tags before reading any of these fics, and take care of yourselves!!!!
In no particular order (jk the order is last updated haha) tho my favorites will have *** next to them :)
***glass stained black by unrequitedangst (E) 31k // Mafia AU’s are some of my favorite kinds of fics, and this one did not disappoint! The character development of Osamu is really legit and despite being mafia, it’s not that heavy or angst of a fic (but you should still definitely read tags and warnings first). It’s an Osamu heavy fic, and if you’re into reading him being stupid, go right ahead LOL.
redux by catalysis (T) 2.3k // ngl I hate break-up fics with a passion truely (when you can’t handle fluff or angst what to do) but I liked the concept for this one hehe (so I made myself suffer LOL). It was short, but cute !!! and the unspoken words really hit me in the FEELS (so what I’m dramatic fight me LOL).
Impropriety by DeathBelle (T) 5.7k // royalty~ I love the banter between them in this fic and we DO stan respectful Osamu yes we do <33333 The relationships between not only SunaOsa but SunaAtsu (because even though it isn’t really SunaAtsu best friend agenda, I can delude myself into think it is okay :/) are done so well and so nice he’s mean Osamu is best Osamu.
***what are you waiting for? by Slumber (T) 3.7k // MIGHT BE MY FAV FIC FROM THIS EXCHANGE!!! It made me cackle and I love how they learn new things about each other!!!! Like the development is so good and Suna is really doing the MOST!! Also, I love recursive endings AHHHHHH!
agape by sketchedsmiles (T) 11.7k // soulmates, then they were SOULMATES! (ik that’s not how it goes but pls just humor me LOL) This fic really depicted Osamu’s insecurities/internal turmoil/overthinking really well and the realization he has vs Suna’s AHJAFKASFJ. I love confident Suna.
fireside by tartaglia (starkartifices) (T) 3.6k // we do love the subtle flirt flirt don’t we hehe ;) It’s short, it’s fluff, and it’s funny - what more could you ask for? Also whats a vigilante fic if there isn’t at least one pun about being a vigilante LOL.
Over and Over Again by tookumade (G) 6.4k // I would like to order one reassuring, reliable Miya Osamu for myself please and thank you :((( The way the relationship is so GOOD like both Suna and Osamu pick each other up and they know the other has their back ajfhkajdfl. I would purchase all the onigiri with the deal Suna was proposing ;) Onigirintarou.
from here to eternity by TheGlovedArtist (T) 6.6k // I for one am a big fan of mythology and stuff (heroes of olympus but like IDR any of the plot LOL) so of course I read this fic. The snark appearances of Sakusa and Komori gave me LIFE and the difference in descriptions from Astumu and Kita cracked me up. This is another respectful Osamu fic (yes I love these) and in this one it was a ‘I save you as much as you save me’ type beat LOL. Gotta love rings.
***Subtle Inarizaki Dating by sifuhotman (T) 15.2k // THIS ONE. Even if you don’t read the whole thing, I beg of you, please, I AM ON MY KNEES, read the SID for Astumu. It is worth the loss of all your brain calls I guarantee it. It made me giggle so freakin much. Suna might be an A-Hole but he’s OUR A-Hole <3
Forever Begins with 8 Seconds by subtlehues (T) 3.9k // FLUFF hehe, I love their dynamic in this one it’s very good and cute and everything great! Also, I am all for the head cannon that Suna cannot cook, yes pls. Also SUPERPOWERS whooooooooh.
***try again, and again, and again by rosegoldwriting (T) 2.6k // SOULMATES! If you ever wanted a specific soulmate AU! for SunaOsa look no further, it probably comes out LOL. I love this concept of them just being like ‘WTF’ everyday, it gives me life. Also, count how many soulmate AU’s you recognized because I just thought about it and I think it’d be fun LOL. (I went back and I think 11 but I’m not sure LOL)
let us burn by SilverMoonT (G) 13.5k // I am always up for a nice vampire Osamu and witch Suna (which believe it or not, is my second one because I read the other one by this writer LOL) This one is more Suna POV and it really goes into his fears and desires, and I like the way Osamu pushes him to live more freely.
***reasons to microwave an elixir by spiritscript (T) 8.2k // THIS ONE. UGH I love, and it’s funny and cute and it EVEN HAS CRIME (kinda not really but yes)! I love the quiet moments they have and the PET AHHHHHHH! We love medic Osamu :DDDDD But also the betrayal and the sparring (and the irony at the end LOL) AJSKJNFK.
we fall between by stringendos (T) 14.7k // honestly the entire time I was just screaming at my computer, begging for them to hurry up and realize, but alas this is a ~slow burn~ for a reason and the tag ‘exes who act like theyre married’ really is the reason I read it and I do not regret LOL. Also bless Matsuda and stan her.
All the Time in the World by minie_ai (M) 8.8k // we love immortality! Denial! And Suna mentally filing away blackmail against people (namely Astumu) LOL. Running away from your problems is always the answer (I am saying this is a not sarcastic manner because I too, run away from my problems LOL) but ramen is ALWAYS a good answer. We love ourselves some emotional constipation LOL.
***none but you by broikawa (T) 7.2k // everything is a competition always LOL, not that I’m complainin but still LOL EVERYTHING. I really love this one because I love the progression and cock-block SakuAtsu hehe. I love them being synchronized idiots <3
it all comes back to you, (my home) by iritaescents (T) 4.5k // FOREVER, WE STAN FOREVER. Anyway, LOL this was is very very cute and fluff and not slow burn, it fast burn LOL. It’s a cute fic to read and it even has our favorite, now say it with me SOULMATES LOL.
Can't help falling in bed with you by tirralirra (T) 6.7k // here we see a 5 + 1 with points for the title (I think it’s very funny LOL my humor is bad ;)) Not that it really needs extra points because it’s a great fic in itself LOL but I really liked the title so I felt the need to share this with you all (OOPS). This was so cute, and the + 1 is HILARIOUS.
It’s no longer up :(((((( -> love's consequences by xginpuff (T) 6.5k // WARNINGS AND TAGS been a while since we had an angsty fic in this list (LOL the way I just tried to avoid all of them hehe). I read the tags but ngl I was still surprised later LOL maybe I’m just dumb, but anyway IK it starts out a bit confusing, but after you read more, you’ll get into it!
***sunagashi by bastigod (T) 9.8k // if there’s anything I like more than mythology, it’s folklore LOL. I love this fic and the plot is written so artfully AHDSAJN. Also the scene with the Ume-chan and her comment (so snarky I love). Also they way I went through so much trouble trying to figure out the kanji LOL (SPOILER it’s miyarin hehe)
catch me (while i'm still runnin') by lunarins (T) 4.3k // first and foremost, may we have a moment of silence for Komori and his eyebrows..... Continuing, this fic was so good because I love a good heist hehe. Their slight of hand abilities really doing the most LOL, and the ending OMG. I love the way the writer added in how they appeared to others during the heist, it really made it so good! Ugh to have a painting class and almost die LOL.
***if we get this right by Slumber (G) 5k // OLD FRIEND plsplspls I love this fic and I love how Osamu slowly relearns who he knew Suna as AHHH. The ending, again UGH, I really loved it and their banter with one another.
The Study of Suna Rintarou by DeathBelle (T) 6.1k // PLEASE the way Osamu kept getting offended omg. But also the effort Suna puts into getting to know Osamu, I was in ~love~. Read to me Osamu, READ TO ME. But also the Osamu is an oblivious MF agenda is alive and well within this fic hehe.
Take a Hint by pancake_surprise (G) 2.3k // ok so I had just read a tumbr post about the one bed thing and then I saw this fic. It was like the stars aligned okay? I was like, ig I HAVE to read it now hehe. But seriously read it, it’s cute and like everything else, of course there’s a challenge to be made LOL.
Heatwave by pancake_surprise (G) 2.1k // the way they were dating without knowing they were dating man. The tag ‘Didn't Know They Were Dating‘ more accurate than the ‘first dates’ one LOL jk but actually tho am I kidding? It’s the first official one IG. LOL anyway, we do love the doin of the defining of relationships. Yup.
If you made it all the way down here, CONGRATS LOL. Like I said, I didn’t read all of them (sadly) and these were the ones i did read LOL. I might add more depending on whether I can motivate myself into reading fics I know will be good LOL so we’ll see heh. Honestly, I thought I was gonna get word counted, but YAY we finished (for now hehe). Also sorry for any possible typos (is this no beta we die like men?) I’m running on 90 min of sleep so my engrish be strugglin LOL. Be safe and wear masks :)

Year In Writing (DGRP Version)
2020 was a hell of a fucking year. But I still got several fics out. I’m gonna be splitting them up a little, and will start with the dgrp fics since there’s more of them. Won’t include any nsfw/m-rated stuff just to make things slightly easier on me.
About That Guy (Hope’s Peak Academy Arc-focused)
I guess technically this started in 2019, but it still was the first thing updated in 2020. Written for the Hinata Hajime Project, this fic is a collection of shorts all from other characters’ perspectives regarding...Hinata! And Kamukura. Also World Destroyer. Many characters get focus, including all the sdr2 survivors, so it was quite the experimental piece!
World Constants and Conditionals (sdr2.5)
Written for the Hinata Hajime Fanzine! I don’t actually remember if it was written in 2020, but I assume so? How old can it be, rip... Anyway! Hinata makes the World Destroyer. It’s a prologue, you can say, to the OVA. Comes with a beautiful illustration.
Take Me Back, Back, Back (sdr2/dr3-zhen rewrite)
This is a commission and set in a zhen rewrite by @gothitelle-goddess. It’s a fun time loop idea in which Komaeda tries to prevent Hinata from partaking in the Kamukura Project. Sometimes, it ends messily.
Bumblings of a Brainiac (dr0/Hope’s Peak Academy Arc-focused)
Written for the Matsuda Yasuke Fanweek I hosted. I decided it’d be a lot of fun to write various short fics in which Matsuda interacted with different characters. Includes an AU where he does not die. I like it a lot when he does not die.
The Recollection Of Ryouko (dr0)
Written for the Ryouko Otonashi Memory Week. These are all ficlets to be more manageable, but they’re also all first person. A fun experiment and some of these actually turned out rather well. I’m pleased with myself.
Budding (Hope’s Peak Academy-focused)
Matsuda gets along with not only Komaeda but also the Warriors of Hope. Has a sort of TDP-esque setting where everything is relatively happy. It was part of a trade but was a lot of fun. I love these terrible kids.
Held (sdr2/dr0)
Matsuda Lives Again! An introspective fic about Matsuda’s messy as hell relationship with Junko and with people in general but one that segways into his relationship with Komaeda. Just a lotta codependency with our resident brainiac. Written for the Bad Things Happen Bingo.
Scars To Burden (sdr2/dr0)
Ghost!Matsuda harasses Hinata post-canon. I’ve always wanted to write something like this. Hopefully I managed alright, considering this was for a trade in addition to the Bad Things Happen Bingo.
Far From Love (sdr2.5)
Komaeda is a bit more stubborn when it comes to staying in his fantasy world, much to the World Destroyer’s chagrin. Written for the Bad Things Happen Bingo.
Soul-Crushing (sdr2)
Soulmates AU. However, Komaeda and Hinata are not soulmates despite being the main relationship. Messiness ensues. An old-ass WIP that I randomly decided to complete for Komaeda’s birthday. I was just in a mega yearning mood. A lot of my wips from way back when involve yearning, some to think of it.
Please Take Good Care Of Me (sdr2)
Komaeda’s rendered almost mute after getting attacked by one of the other remnants. Kamukura takes care of him afterwards. Pretty straight-forward. Written for the Bad Things Happen Bingo.
Flights and Guilt (sdr2)
Komaeda deals with not just nightmares but also survivor’s guilt. Hinata helps him through this. Also straight-forward. Also written for the Bad Things Happen Bingo.
Soft Trauma (sdr2)
A really old WIP that’s a Post-Canon AU, but had been started way before Kodaka even dreamed dr3 up. It’s focused on recovery in which Komaeda struggles but Naegi’s there to help. It’s super messy. Super yearning. Please mind the tags.
You're The Woooorst~! (v3)
Sick fic. Kaito gets sick and who’s there to take care of him but the resident liar? Pretty simple premise. I love Oumota a lot.
Look Look Look (v3)
Saihara and Ouma are hanging out/dating but solely to get Momota’s attention. It doesn’t go well for Saihara, so he breaks things off. I also love Saioumota a lot and want more of that OT3 focusing on the space boy. This is a pretty bitter fic because Saihara is a bitter, bitter boy.
Can’t Even Trust (v3)
Technically Salmon Mode but is really just a non-killing game au. Ouma still exposes Maki as a killer. Kaito still takes Maki under his wing. Ouma is very annoyed by this.
KomaHina Exchange + Week Fics
Between The Sky’s Grasp (sdr2)
Idol!Kamukua and Fan!Komaeda, except Kamukura is going undercover. Written for the KomaHina Secret Exchange. I love idol stuff, especially more dubious idol stuff. So, I was excited to write this one.
For Fools Rush In (sdr2/dr3-zhen)
A Kamukura/Hinata Twins AU in which they split the talents. Kamukura is then assigned babysitting duty for Class 77-B. Also for the KomaHina Secret Exchange, which means there’s a bit of a sibling love triangle going on. A very weird AU, but still pretty fun.
Feelings To Write About (sdr2/udg)
Post-Canon. Komaeda and Hinata play a kids’ board game and then talk about the kids that Komaeda babysat once upon a time. Melancholy, morose, but a bit hopeful. Written for the exchange. I love the kids.
The Sun Sets (sdr2)
Despair!Hinata AU. Written for the exchange. Was definitely a favorite of mine because I love Hinata when he’s villainous. Characterizing him was a blast. It took some inspiration from the song Ready As I’ll Ever Be, which is a good fucking song. I love that song. I even love how this fic turned out.
Reserved (sdr2/dr3-zhen)
Childhood Friends KomaHina during HPA days. Probably one of my favorite things written. It’s angsty and emotional and I’m proud of it. This dynamic of affection and resentment on Hinata’s end was very fun.
It’s Easier (sdr2)
Soulmates AU set during sdr2. A little self-explanatory. Unsurprisingly, a killing game is not the best setting for soulmates to meet.
Joyous Occasion (sdr2)
Cisswapped/Genderflipped. Hinata is pining for Komaeda while she’s getting married to her sister. Sometimes, you just gotta write gayngst. You just gotta. Gaygnsting Gals.
Twisted Branches Entwined (sdr2)
Talentswap AU. Swap!Hinata and Swap!Komaeda have a sit-down and talk in a post-sdr2 setting. Pretty simple. Kinda clumsy.
The Farce of Hope (sdr2/dr1)
Fantasy AU. Demon Lord Hinata is sent to target Hopeful Hero Naegi and gets distracted by Hapless Healer Komaeda! Definitely a fun idea. I’ve always wanted to write one like it since the Tropical Despair Carnival has a similar idea, I believe. It’s more set-up than a full fic, but I still hope you like it.
Sweet Poison (sdr2)
Chapter 5-focused. Sometimes you just gotta write Komaeda fantasizing about better things with Hinata as he lays on the floor dying. You just gotta.
I Hope Our Future Is Beautiful (sdr2/dr3)
Post-Canon fluff to make up for the largely angsty as hell week of stuff that came before it. Yep. Not much else to say here lol.

Hello
For the ask game:
3. what do you think about Light? 10, 24 and 25, please.
Thank you for the asks and honestly great questions!! I have a feeling this most is going to be a bit long, so hopefully I can get my thoughts and everything out in a way that’s easy to keep up with!
Also spoiler warning for those who haven’t finished the series!
~~~
3. What do you think about Light?
I honestly have SO many mixed feelings about him, like it’s hard to just be like ‘oh i hate him’ or ‘oh I love him’ because it just isn’t that simple for me personally, which that itself is a great sign of a character since you have to think about that sort of thing with them. Right off the bat though,  I’d like to say that I think Light as a character is phenomenal. He takes the character-type of what many would consider as the ‘perfect guy’ for the main character but twists it in a way that makes the reader/viewer question the protagonist their supposed to be rooting for.
I also think of Manga!Light and Anime!Light as different people to an extent, as in the manga you watch a seemingly ‘normal’ guy who has issues with the world deal with the sudden power that was thrown on him. I talked about it before in my last ask post, but the scene after Light killed his first person after testing out is a great way to express how he feels, and is one of the few times we really see Light show THAT much emotion. He shows regret and guilt, thinking himself as a murderer and you can tell how it affected him. Anime!Light you don’t get that, and instead he seemed to just take on the task of being Kira and god of the new world without much else thought. I definitely prefer M!Light in comparison to A!Light to say the least, so I’m going to focus a bit more on the M!Light side of things.
I personally found myself wanting to have hope for Light, even though I knew that he wasn’t going to get better but instead worse over time, and honestly it’s probably better story wise to keep him as the ‘bad guy’ who stays bad instead of trying to pull a redemption arc out of no where or something. I have a feeling I’m beginning to ramble, so I’m going to try to wrap this up.
I have a love-hate relationship with Light, because even though I don’t agree with his actions and the tactics he uses to get the ‘perfect world’ he wants, and I do find his thinking flawed and find him very arrogant the more power/ego Kira gains over the world as the story goes on. Yet I find him as a character in general just fascinating. I was definitely more on L’s side of things and found myself enjoying a majority of the scenes where people simple put Light in his place and treat him like a dude with a god complex rather than what he wants/expects. There’s just a lot of thoughts I have about him, but yeah it’s just a love-hate sort of thing for me when it comes to Light.
~~~
10. Do you ship any characters?
I usually find myself being a bit of a multishipper when it comes to most fandoms, it just depends on the source material and the characters obviously. I definitely can enjoy a lot of the ships when it comes to the fandom, but even if I don’t like a pairing I do my best to remain pretty respectful about it.
One thing to note is that I can’t really find myself shipping L with anyone in the series to be honest, like I can find myself enjoying his relationship dynamics of characters but with my own interpretations and DR stuff, It’s hard to view him with someone else romantically.
Some ships I like/don’t mind though (especially when it comes to au stuff as most of these in canon probably wouldn’t work out lol): Matt x Mello, Mikalight, Rem x Misa ig? (more like the concept is sweet i think even though in canon Misa treats her pretty badly and Rem said she doesn’t think of her that way), uhhh. My brain is pulling a blank right now but these are the main ones that come to mind.
Some platonic pairings I enjoy (as there are a lot more of these for me): Matt + Mello, Mello + Near, Matsuda + Misa, Honestly all the task force have really interesting dynamics with one another, L + Watari (obviously in a father/parent way, I just like seeing their interactions), Ryuk + Light, Ryuk + Misa, L + Matsuda’s relationship is honestly pretty funny to me and honestly L’s dynamics with the task force is also interesting as well.
I think that’s it when it comes to shipping stuff atm
~~~
24. Any headcanons you’d like to share?
Oh! I feel like I have a couple but at the moment my mind is pulling a blank for some reason. Some head canons that do come to mind though deal with my Death Note DRs in some way but they can also be interpreted with the actual series itself, so hopefully this is good enough! Usually I do better with a certain prompt of some sort though for future references though!
I’ve seen a post a bit ago about Matt and Mello being roommates of some sort at Wammy House and they find themselves in that roommate mentality still when they do room together, and honestly I agree so much with that.
When Mello leave the Wammy House I see him not contacting Matt or anyone from Wammy House as he turns his focus on his side of the Kira Case, even if apart of him misses them and what he grew up around. Yet he pushes through because he’s stubborn and wants to do whatever he can on his own with the Mafia without involving someone like Matt, probably for his safety. After the explosion though when he has no one on his side, I think that’s when he realizes there’s only one other person he can truly trust and rely on and that’s when he contacts Matt to help him on the case.
Not really a headcanon as the author himself mentioned that the rivalry between Mello and Near was one-sided and that Near actually liked Mello, I do see both boys sometimes wondering what it would have been like if they didn’t have that rivalry and became friends instead. I honestly see Mello thinking that more towards the end of the case and after the explosion, but at that point he’s probably thinking it’s too late to even pursue a friendship like that with him.
I like to think that at Wammy House, Matt didn’t really understand Mello’s rivalry with Near and at times questioned him about it at first but he was pretty supportive
He didn’t have anything against Near though and was pretty indifferent on the whole thing personally, but if it made Mello happy and helped him achieve a goal he had no reason to deny.
Matt in general in general is someone that gives the vibes of not caring about much, but if you’re close to him he is literally SO loyal?? Like if someone close to him has an issue, even if he might make a comment or remark, he is always there to back them up.
I like to think that over time Light actually enjoys Ryuk’s presence, kind of like a sense of some sort of comfort that he isn’t alone of some sort? Like at first he might have been annoyed and still gets annoyed whenever he acts annoying and distracts him from work, but also I think he doesn’t like hate his company. Probably would rather be around him than Misa unfortunately </3
I think that L and Chief Yagami had a pretty good friendship, or perhaps not friendship but i’m not sure what to call it atm. Like I think L respected him a lot and Soichiro was the same towards him, and I think at times if they decided not to talk about the Kira case it’s usually pretty good for the most part.
It’s not really a headcanon but Matsuda trying his best to get some positive attention for things he does in the case is funny and kinda sweet. Most of the time L probably ignores his antics and doesn’t really feed into it, but there’s like one or two times where he actually does
It’s probably very small, probably something along the lines of “Good job.” or something but Matsuda feels so happy that he even acknowledged him like that and didn’t call him stupid for once. Definitely was a good boost in his mood
I find the thought of Light and Ryuk playing video games early on when he first gets the notebook charming in an almost funny way. Like Light probably either was talked into it by the shinigami or was like ‘screw it, I have nothing else to do atm’ and Ryuk is just happy he can actually do something and not just watch him working
Light is definitely competitive in games though, like he’ll probably try to act like it wouldn’t matter but like most things with him, but it did lmao
I find the thought of the wammy kids doing things to mess with/annoy Roger so entertaining. Like I feel bad for him, but if I were asked to assist in the pranks or antics I probably would just for his reaction alone
Think that’s all for random misc head canons for now, if you want something more specific just send a request!
~~~
25. Ramble on about whatever you’d like
Thank you for this one! I usually feel a little guilty whenever I ramble on about things in general, but the fact that some people are interested in my thoughts on things is so sweet!
At the moment though I’m honestly not too sure what to ramble about as there’s a lot on my mind and it’s hard to pick one thing and honestly it can be a bit hard to go through all my thoughts at times.
But! One thing I will always stand behind that ya’ll have probably seen countless of times so far is that the Wammy Boys deserved better and I will always say it if necessary tbh. Speaking of wammy house though, that comes to mind is that I wish I could learn more about it at times, yet I also enjoy the mystery of it in a way. It’s something I’d be so down to learn more about, but if not I’d be pretty okay with that outcome. Plus just leaves things for fans to interpret in their own ways if they want, and that’s something I definitely enjoy when it comes to the fandom is how they take something vague and turn it into so much more.
Also speaking of the fandom I’m surprised yet so thankful/grateful for is that the death note fandom is still going on here. It was such a relief seeing that I wasn’t alone in my hyperfixions and thoughts, and seeing all the talent in the art, writing, etc, is just amazing and something I look forward to a lot in all honesty. I’m also just so thankful for the people that take time out of their day to look at my blog in general. You like, reblog, or follow me? I literally want to be your best friend and if I wasn’t so nervous about starting conversations with ya’ll I definitely would have messaged a couple of ya’ll a while ago. Until then I hope you just read this and see me on your blogs and hope my reactions and comments is enough until I get less nervous lmao.
One last thing before i close the blog off is that I love L with my full heart and I adore Matt and Mello so very much. My favorite lads <3
~~~
Alright that should be it for this post! If you stuck around, thank you!
Some future posts to expect: Matt, Mello, + a f!reader based on the dream I talked about before, some L angst, and possibly something with Light :)
Anyways have a great day/night and here’s a reminder to stay hydrated and eat something if you haven’t already <3
Ultraman Z Ep. 1: “Chant My Name!” (TV Review)
Tumblr media
(Original Air Date: June 19, 2020, Director: Kiyotaka Taguchi, Writer: Kota Fukihara)
Tsuburaya Productions (TsuPro for short), have recently been making greater strides to increase their Ultraman franchise’s availability internationally. Most recently that’s been taking the form of blu-ray releases from Mill Creek Entertainment of classic and modern series. As a fan of Japanese tokusatsu (“special effects” features) in general, official releases like that have me excited for the potential of what’s to come for the international availability of the genre in general. This week has started a new step on that path. For the next two weeks, on the official Ultraman Youtube channel, TsuPro has made the first episode of the latest installment in their iconic franchise, Ultraman Z (pronounced “Zett”), available with English captions.
This first episode marks an action-packed introduction to the titular intergalactic hero in-training, Zett (voiced by Tasuku Hanaka), and rookie giant robot pilot for the organization STORAGE, Haruki Natsukawa (Kohshu Hirano). We see them going through reactions to how they’re treated by their respective superiors, deal with the threat of a giant monster and when a near-death experience for both of them requires them to merge their life energy in this efficiently paced introduction to a new story in the Ultraman legacy.
[Full Review Under the Cut]
Keeping the action going through most of the episode’s runtime establishes how the setting for this series will work going forward without slowing down for exposition. The monster attack in the cold open presents this as a world that needed an organization like STORAGE using giant robots to deal with these attacks before the titular Ultraman shows up. Details from that sequence come back later to parallel and re-establish some classic rules of the Ultra franchise, like the shared 3-minute time limit for fighting between STORAGE’s robot Sevenger and Zett himself, signaled by his Z-shaped color timer. Full explanations of how everything in this series is supposed to work will likely come later but keeping the first episode action focused helps draw the audience in and make them want to see more.
In between the action in this episode we get glimpses into the supporting cast that make up the members of STORAGE in how they react during and after monster attacks. As an organization, we get an idea of how they operate to manage the dangers of monster attacks. It’s a professional process of clearing the center of the attack of any bystanders before releasing one of their robots into the area to deal with the threat and mitigate collateral damage. There are brief looks into the interpersonal dynamics of the team, like when we see Haruki getting chewed out by his superiors after him distracting Yoko (Rima Matsuda) during the opening caused greater collateral damage and during the fights where Yuka (Hikari Kiroki) gets excited over how cool the attacking monsters are. They’re set up well as character I look forward to seeing more of, especially since the presence of STORAGE’s robots means they’ll occasionally be entering the fray against monsters alongside Haruki and Zett.
With the series being named after him, it makes sense that this first episode’s focus is in getting to know Ultraman Z and Haruki as individuals before they merge at the end. The monster attack in the opening gives Haruki a literal Save the Cat Dog moment, demonstrating where his priorities lie while doing his job. He’s clearly still new to all of this when we see him processing how his superiors tell him that while his commitment to saving lives no matter what is admirable, it’s not an excuse for reckless behavior.
With the other half of the partnership, we’re introduced to Zett as another rookie desperate to prove himself to the person he’s declared his mentor, Ultraman Zero (voiced by Mamoru Miyano). Though the elder Ultra denies it and declares Zett to be “barely one-third hero”, that doesn’t stop Zett’s determination, especially once Zero’s trapped in another dimension and leaves Zett to deal with the monster on his own. The hero being a massive fanboy seeking to inherit the legacy of his heroes and the way he mixes overly dramatic speech, like saying “I beseech you!” in the subtitles, while also saying he’s “Ultra-shocked” at Zero’s dismissal of him adds a level of comedy to the show that makes Zett amusing from the start. The sequence that officially merges Haruki and Zett, a visual callback to the first episode of the original Ultraman, shows hints at where this dynamic between Ultra and host could go in the future. Their banter, especially during Haruki’s first use of the Ultra Z-Riser, already suggests how their qualities can help them develop together.
One of the best places the two characters come together in this first episode is in the action. I keep coming back to the cold open for this episode not only for how it efficiently sets up the world and character, but for how impressive it is as a technical feat. The mix of digital compositing and suit acting to make Gomess, the first monster we see, and Sevenger appear to be on different scales, while showing them behind the running Haruki is some of the best work I’ve seen in televised tokusatsu in a while. Suit acting between Sevenger and Zett adds a sense of character to the action. Sevenger’s design, a charming look from the Showa-era of the franchise, requires a tackle and grapple style of combat and there’s the bonus of how Sevenger’s eyes switch to an angry expression when it’s time to fight. Haruki using Sevenger to fight alongside Zett lets them quickly develop a trust as Haruki can see that Zett is working to defend the city from the monster Genegar. A notable difference occurs between regular Zett, before merging with Haruki, and afterwards when he’s in Alpha Edge form, calling on the powers of past Ultras. Once Zett and Haruki are accessing those powers the pace of the fight against Genegar speeds up and Zett’s fighting style becomes more martial arts focused and more powers, like energy blasts, coming into play.
“Chant My Name!” kicks off Ultraman Z with a bang, from the characters to the action and effects work, this is the best foot forward I’ve seen an Ultraman series open on since my personal favorite series, Ultraman Geed. It’s also a stellar start for the beginning of greater accessibility to Ultraman as a franchise from TsuPro. Much of what makes this episode so effective, like the music and the cliffhanger introducing the series antagonist, I’ve barely had space to mention. If you’re in the mood for an extra bit of action in your week, checking this episode out while it’s on Youtube is the perfect chance for that.
Can you headcanon L and Matsuda being both autistic and/or with ADHD and kinda understanding each other eventual needs please?? And with the reaction/opinions of others (Light, Soichiro, Aizawa, Misa and Mogi)
Hi there! So, my ADHD had me in a pretty intense BNHA lock down (here is my sideblog shameless self promo lmao), and tbh I’m answering this ask first just because of the hilarious irony of it.
I tried to answer both the premise and how the other characters react, and I’m still in the process of shifting back into Death Note mode, so bear with my dumbass ass
L and Matsuda were peak autism/ADHD solidarity, and they bonded pretty fast over it.
L already knew about Touta because he investigated the police very thoroughly, but Matsuda realised quite fast that Ryuzaki shared certain traits with him.
Both of them loved to sit down “weird”, and would be found discussing the case in the strangest of postures. Once Aizawa walked to Matsuda hanging his legs mid air as he laid down on the couch, while Ryuzaki was sitting on one of the armchairs, face pressed against the arm, his voice muffled as he recited the deaths’ data from the previous week.
“Ryuzaki, I literally can’t take any more information in today, I want to talk about Detective Conan” “Sure, but only if we can talk about my list of sweets after” “Deal. Which country today?” “I’m feeling Italy” “Nice. So, I’m on volume 42 and-”
L wasn’t much of a fan of having to repeat himself, or being interrupted mid sentence, but once Touta explained that it was because of his auditory processing issues, he started to give Matsuda five to ten seconds to reply, and would repeat what he last said if asked, two-three times if needed.
When they became closer and seemed to actually start developing something like friendship, the unstoppable force of Matsuda’s Labrador energy clashed with the immovable object of L’s rejection of physical touch. He tried to learn how to read Ryuzaki’s body language so he could take some steps back if needed, to which L was grateful for.
Once Touta learnt about what flavours L loved, and the right texture he could tolerate for his food, he started bringing snacks to share with him that catered to his needs. Except for eclairs, those were for Ryuzaki alone. The simply thought of eating one made Matsu’s skin crawl.
Ryuzaki completely dropped any form of degradation towards Matsuda after a particular night when he lashed out at him in frustration with the case, and Touta had a panic attack triggered by his RSD. If he ever expressed anything akin to an insult, L always made sure it was clear he was joking, in his own way.
Executive dysfunction had always been a pain to deal with, and Matsuda was no stranger to it, but he grew to be so grateful to have Watari around, he once cried about it.
The man was used to L's own version of it, and to have someone to actually help Matsu out by giving him pointers and tips, as well as a helping hand, it made his heart ache in a good way.
The other members of the Task Force didn’t know how to react at first, because Matsuda restrained a lot when he worked back in the police. They considered him clumsy and a bit of an airhead, but little did they know that the limits he pushed onto himself were to blame for that.
Being in such a small team, plus being in company of someone who understood his needs better than any other coworker would’ve been able to made him feel more free to just be himself and behave in ways that actually helped him work better.
Like stimming. He didn’t know how much he missed it on a work environment until he was able to bring his favourite pen in and click clack it away while working through reports. Or bouncing his left leg as his right was tucked under himself on the chair.
Mogi had always been one to roll with the punches, and when he found both men in a deep conversation about home decor at three in the morning, he simply sat down with the reports he had brought and started working through them.
Aizawa started being slightly more considerate towards Touta, and tried to reduce his complaining about his attitude, as he caught on the fact that Matsuda had been simply restrained by societal expectations. It wasn’t at the same level, but he could relate to those feelings of inadequacy. This, in turn, softened his attitude towards L as well.
Soichiro, the always diligent leader, noticed how much more productive and eager to work Matsuda was, and tried to silently learn through observation. If he could make it easier for Touta once they had to return to the police, he would.
Light always had these feelings of slight irritation towards Matsuda, that he never put a name of and simply branded as thinking of him as stupid. But L saw right through Light in a lot of aspects, including this one. And He Did Not Like It At All.
When Ryuzaki handcuffed himself to Light, he made sure to invite Matsuda over to indulge in ranting about their interests even more than it was already usual for them. If Light ever complained about how much they were talking, Ryuzaki would tell him that surely Japan’s Top Student could push through and concentrate in whatever he’s doing, no matter if there’s a conversation going on around him.
Misa loved her manager Matsui. And Matsuda was very fond of Misa as well, even if he couldn’t admit it because she was still suspect of being involved in the Kira case, with so much evidence against her… But she was sweet and full of life, and he couldn’t help but admire her.
He never told her, but he was pretty certain the girl had a touch of ADHD herself. They settled in a fun friendship dynamic right from the start, and when they discovered they had the same tastes in music, random karaoke nights in her room were on. He even got Ryuzaki and Light to join once, even if neither of them actually sang a single song.
Touta explained to Misa a bit in regards of how to act around Ryuzaki, because she was Very Loud and even more physical than Matsuda, and he didn’t want his friend to have a meltdown because she just went slightly overboard with her natural excitement.
Ryuzaki didn’t learn about this until he was reviewing the footage for Misa’s bedroom one night, and he wouldn’t admit it, but it was touching to see someone actually try to be accommodating instead of dismissive.
IDOLiSH7 4th Anniversary Special Story: Best Wishes...
Chapter 3: Gacchan's Inspection
Chapter 1 | Chapter 2 | Chapter 4 | Chapter 5
Momo: Good work this week~! Just a little longer, and we'll have our vacation day!
Yuki: Right. We should go out together on our next off day.
Momo: Really!? I hope you're not just saying that, and planning to sleep through the day anyway.
Yuki: We can go out in the evening. You know, somewhere... in the neighborhood.
Momo: It's our long-awaited day off, so I wanna wake up early and go to the sea or the mountains! I wanna do something recreational!
Yuki: You're so energetic... I'll need five consecutive vacation days before I'm even mentally prepared to go to the seaside or mountains.
Yuki: Let's just watch a DVD together. I can't handle the splatter stuff that you love, but I did like the film we watched the other day.
Momo: Liar, you slept through it.
Yuki: I didn't, I swear.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Good work today.
Momo & Yuki: .......!?
Momo: What!? Where's Okarin's voice coming from!?
Yuki: Ah... There's a speaker fixed to the ceiling.
Momo: Huh!? You're right!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Can you hear me?
Momo & Yuki: We can hear you.
Momo: What's up with this?
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: That foreign TV show, "Johnny's Venuses", has been popular recently, yes?
Momo: Yeah. It's about an all-female detective agency, where their boss Johnny gives orders to the Venuses.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Yes, that one.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Our president said he wanted to try that...
Yuki: Is he an idiot?
Momo: That's the reason he put up speakers!?
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: He wants to try giving out orders. I'm sure he'll get tired of it in due time... My apologies...
Yuki: I don't want someone's disembodied voice telling me what to do... Especially Rintaro's...
Momo: But it does sound kind of fun! Okarin, try talking like the boss of a detective agency.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Gentlemen, I have a new mission for you.
Momo: Like that! That's cool!
Yuki: Crap. I think my heart just skipped a beat.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Did you like that?
Yuki: I want to do it next.
Momo: Me too, me too!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Ah, before that, I must tell you about your next job. After you finish filming in Hokkaido tomorrow, you'll go to Sky Blue Mall, which is here in the city...
Momo: Say it like a boss!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: You'll infiltrate Sky Blue Mall and investigate "Anniversary", its new organic café.
Momo: Boss!
Yuki: Boss!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: You're to have a shoot and autograph the walls of the establishment before it opens its doors. A mission that I'm sure is within your caliber.
Yuki: I'm assuming we'll be fairly compensated?
Momo: I'll like, totally do my best, Boss!
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: That is all.
Okazaki's Voice Through Speakers: Did you understand what I just told you~?
Momo: Yeah, no problem!
Yuki: Anniversary, how nostalgic. We worked for them after we'd just debuted.
Momo: That's right! We used it for our very first fan meet.
Momo: They asked for our autographs before the opening, but since we haven't had the time to visit, it'll be really last minute.
Yuki: We can finally return the favor. I just hope our plane won't be late.
Door opens
Rinto Okazaki: I'm back.
Momo: Welcome back.
Rinto Okazaki: Oh, about tomorrow. Try to disguise yourselves the best you can, so no one recognizes you.
Rinto Okazaki: It seems Sky Blue Mall is doing many secret events for its re-opening, so they have strict regulations in place to prevent information leaks.
Momo: Really?
Rinto Okazaki: Yes. They don't allow the possession of cameras or smartphones without permission.
Yuki: They're like a particularly strict art museum.
Rinto Okazaki: As acquainted as we are with them, there'll likely be chaos if people know Re:vale will be there...
Momo: Got it. We'll try not to stand out! Though my Yuki is such a handsome man that he'll probably stand out, anyway!
Yuki: True.
Rinto Okazaki: I'm sure it'll be difficult to have to come back here for work after a whole day of filming in Hokkaido, but I'm counting on you!
- - - -
Mall Event Staff: Nice to meet you, ŹOOĻ. We look forward to your concert at the re-opening event tomorrow.
Mall Event Staff: Today we'll have a prep meeting and rehearsal. We'll try not to keep you here too long, but...
Ryo Tsukumo: That aside, why do even I have to give up my phone?
Mall Event Staff: As you've been informed, a permit is required to carry filming equipment here... You may use our internal communications line if you need anything.
Ryo Tsukumo: Yeah yeah, I get it.
Toma Inumaru: We look forward to working with you.
Minami Natsume: We look forward to working with you.
Minami Natsume: There are many workers here. They must be in a hurry to finish before the opening. Perhaps some will even have to work overnight?
Torao Mido: Huh...
Haruka Isumi: It's pretty fun to see the shops before they open.
Mall Event Staff: Well then, allow me to guide you to the space reserved for the opening ceremony and your concert.
- - - -
Riku Nanase: Wow, so this is VR LAND!
Mitsuki Izumi: Our signs are lining up the walls!
Tamaki Yotsuba: And they're playing an ad on the monitor at the front of the place!
VR LAND Staff: IDOLiSH7's VR experience will be held in the main space inside the facility! Please, take a look!
Tsumugi Takanashi: Do you plan to film the footage one by one?
Cameraman: That's right! I'd like to get about 5-10 minutes with each of them!
Yamato Nikaido: Understood. Who's going first?
Tamaki Yotsuba: I wanna go!
Sogo Osaka: Tamaki-kun, you'll get bored if you have to wait too long after your own shoot. Why don't you let others go before you?
Tamaki Yotsuba: I'll be fine. I wanna go first.
Nagi Rokuya: OH! There are so many balloons!
Iori Izumi: They're most likely for the visitors tomorrow. Such cute balloons...
Riku Nanase: There's a VR space exploration experience! I want to come play here sometime!
VR LAND Staff: Would you like to try it right now? As long as you have the time, of course!
Riku Nanase: May I? Yay!
- - - -
Soba Chef Matsuda-san: Gaku-cha... Ah, I mean, Gacchan! Mind checking what's in that box for me?
Gaku Yaotome: Sure thing. It's bowls... Tecchan, help me count these bowls.
Tenn Kujo: OK, Gacchan. Tsuna-chan, can I leave this to you?
Ryunosuke Tsunashi: Yeah, I'll assemble the rest. Go help Gacchan.
Kaoru Anesagi: Massan! I'll leave the tea you asked here!
Soba Chef Matsuda-san: Thanks a lot, Kaoru-chan!
Gaku Yaotome: Phew... This is taking pretty long. I don't think we'll be done by 9 p.m., like we're supposed to.
- - - -
Anniversary's Owner: Ah, I didn't think you'd actually come... Seeing as you're some of Japan's top idols now...
Momo: Shh, we're incognito today. Here's a souvenir from Hokkaido! It's white chocolate!
Yuki: I can't believe you're opening a branch near the station now. What kind of misdeeds did you commit to get a place like this?
Anniversary's Owner: The same as you. Lots of hard work. Ah, try this.
Momo: Wow! This really brings me back! Anniversary's roll cakes!
Rinto Okazaki: Let me take a picture of it, please! Stand together, you three!
Rinto Okazaki: One, two...
Snap.
- - - -
Ryo Tsukumo: Ah. There was a place I needed to call.
Ryo Tsukumo: Torao. Go find an internal communications line.
Torao Mido: Someone from the staff will be here in a minute. Ask them.
Ryo Tsukumo: Forget it, then.
Toma Inumaru: What did you need to make a call for?
Ryo Tsukumo: Oh, nothing big. Several people will only lose their jobs if they don't get an answer from me.
Toma Inumaru: ...Go make that call! I'll find a spot where you can use the phones.
Ryo Tsukumo: Yeah, make it snappy.
Toma Inumaru: Got it.
Ryo Tsukumo: .........
Ryo Tsukumo: Don't you think he's taking too long?
Torao Mido: He just left!
Minami Natsume: Ryo-san, you're not very patient, are you?
Haruka Isumi: Hey, stop tapping your foot.
Ryo Tsukumo: Haruka, go after him.
Haruka Isumi: Just wait until Toma comes back!
Ryo Tsukumo: He might've stopped looking, so he could laze around somewhere. Hurry up and go.
Haruka Isumi: Ugh... I'll go.
Minami Natsume: Be careful not to get lost.
Haruka Isumi: Got it.
Ryo Tsukumo: .........
Ryo Tsukumo: Don't you think he's taking too long?
Torao Mido: He's not.
Minami Natsume: He is not.
Ryo Tsukumo: Hey, one of you could...
Torao Mido: No.
Minami Natsume: I refuse.
Ryo Tsukumo: Do you not care that good people could lose their jobs over this!? You celebrities are so heartless.
Torao Mido: Just wait.
Ryo Tsukumo: Doing what?
Minami Natsume: You could meditate.
Torao Mido: Count your fingers, for all I care.
Ryo Tsukumo: Aaah... I'm so bored without my phone... Aaah, it's so irritating...
Torao Mido: Stop hitting the displays.
Minami Natsume: Don't bite your nails.
Ryo Tsukumo: Fine, I'll go myself!
Minami Natsume: You could just wait.
Torao Mido: It's fine, let him be.
Ryo Tsukumo: This is the worst..! I'll tear through entire floors of brand new goods to find that internal line if I have to!
Torao Mido & Minami Natsume: .........
Torao Mido: Hold on a sec, Ryo-san!
Minami Natsume: Please don't make a scene. Ah...
Bzzt
Minami Natsume: ...A blackout..?
- - - -
Tamaki Yotsuba: Is the shoot gonna be done soon?
Iori Izumi: Not for a while. Are you already bored?
Tamaki Yotsuba: Hey, what do you think that is?
Riku Nanase: I was wondering about it, too! An arcade, maybe..? It's like some kind of attraction..?
Tamaki Yotsuba: Rikkun, you done shooting?
Riku Nanase: I am! Maybe we could go take a closer look.
Tamaki Yotsuba: Let's go!
Iori Izumi: They just told you not to wander off.
Riku Nanase: We won't wander off, we'll be back in a minute. Don't worry, we're wearing our disguises!
Tamaki Yotsuba: Yeah, we'll check it out on our way to the toilet!
Riku Nanase: Yep!
Iori Izumi: ......... I worry about what you two might get up to by yourselves. I'll come with you.
Iori Izumi: Manager, excuse us for a moment. We'll return shortly.
Tsumugi Takanashi: Alright!
Tamaki Yotsuba: Hey, Rikkun! Wanna check what's over there, too?
Riku Nanase: What is that!? A sweets shop?
Iori Izumi: Hey! Wait, you two!
Bzzt
Iori Izumi: .......!
Iori Izumi: ...The lights... Even the emergency lamps went out...
To be continued...
Death Note Audio Drama 03
Tumblr media
Disc 3: Beloved Enemy - a summary / partial translation
Prior translations / an explanation as to what the fuck this is.
The title of this disc is so alarming, but it’s actually the first disc out of the ones I have listened to that doesn’t title drop in the text. The plot is still not going off the rails. In this: long conversations about porn, chips vs flips,  some good old L and Light first meeting (devoid of tennis) and..... Light being a nightmare retail customer who needs to speak to the manager.
___
We’re at To-Oh entrance exams. The teacher gives lengthy exam instructions, very teacher-typical. He also explains how big and important To-Oh is, because a German listener will naturally not necessarily be aware of that. The exam starts. The door opens.
TEACHER: You’re late, Mr...
LIGHT: Yagami. Light Yagami. I always get nervous if I have to wait too long.
TEACHER: You should still come earlier as to not bother the others. Please sit.
RYUK: Oh, he doesn’t like you, Light. Your cool attitude apparently--
Light coughs loudly.
RYUK: Calm now. Nobody here can see or hear me. So here’s where the elite fights to get into University? All those freshly-scrubbed students with their freshly scrubbed brains... Oh, somebody is running even later.
TEACHER: What’s up with you millenials? As if there was nobody else in the world. And where’s your shoes?
L: Bare feet help me think.
TEACHER: It’s January. Aren’t you cold?
L: No.
TEACHER: You can sit here, next to the other one who was late. Mr...?
L: Erm, Ryuga. Hideki Ryuga.
TEACHER: Really? That’s your name?
L: Yeah.
TEACHER: Like the actor?
L: Yeah.
TEACHER: From TV?
L: Is there anything wrong with that?
TEACHER: Well, good luck, Mr. Ryuga.
RYUK: That’s not his name, Light. That’s not his name. He’s lying.
LIGHT: I’m trying to focus here.
RYUK: I’ll bet. But I’ve got the eyes of a shinigami. And I know who that guy is. I can tell you, you’ve got a fan. A big fan. He pretends to study the task at hand, but he’s watching you. Like he’s been watching you for weeks. Don’t turn around now, but sitting behind you... is L.
____
TITLE MUSIC ____
Soichiro and L are watching Light. Soichiro insists Light is gonna study, but L points out that Light is about to leave the house. They notice the piece of paper that Light uses to check people coming into his room. Soichiro justifies it as “He’s a teen. And his sister always steals his pens”.
_____
Ryuk and Light on the street. Light explains to Ryuk that someone was in his room, based on the door handle trick from the manga. They took out the more complicated pencil lead check. Light coerces Ryuk into looking for cameras the same way as in the manga.
_____
Light returns home. We’re back with the surveillance team.
L: Now let’s see what your son is going to do with the rest of his evening. Camera 3.
SOICHIRO: The exams are only a week away. He’s going to study until he falls asleep.
L: Weeell, you could put it that way.
SOICHIRO: Good lord.
L: Is “Skimpy Cousins” on the curriculum this year?
SOICHIRO: My son of all people...
L (amused): It looks like a pile of books for studying... and with a very wide definition, that’s true.... Mandatory material, so to say. Camera 7, zoom in just a little... I’d like to read the titles. “Minxes in Uniforms”...
SOICHIRO: What we’re doing here isn’t right.
L: We’re looking for a killer. He’s looking at dirty booklets.
SOICHIRO: I’m just saying, watching this... is wrong.
L: If we witness it coming to a murder, it’ll be worth it. Though ‘coming’ might be the wrong term here.
SOICHIRO: You’re enjoying this...
L: Not as much as he is, apparently. Or are we just supposed to think so?
L launches into his whole thing about how Light almost seems to just immediately want to point out what it is that he’s hiding. Soichiro is pissed. “You wanted evidence? There’s your evidence. My son likes to look at naked girls. Not quite a crime.” He’s very insistent that this is prove of Light’s innocence...
____
Ryuk chatters while he looks for cameras. He doesn’t get why human men love ‘the female form’. Women in the shinigami realm don’t even always have skin. Ryuk personally is very very into teeth on demon ladies.
____
L and Soichiro are still arguing about the surveillance. L asks Soichiro if he’s told his family about the investigation, Soichiro denies and points out ruefully that he hasn’t been home a lot lately. L is like “Well, at least  every passing moment without your son doing voodoo magic or summoning the devil or whatever brings us closer to taking him off our list”.
_____
Ryuk found a lot of cameras and explains that to Light.
_____
A lengthy Sakura TV feature about a resident from an Australian village named ‘good old Tommy Smith’ dying. He left a goodbye message and shot himself.
_____
STORE CLERK: Can I help you?
LIGHT: Yes, I’d like to buy a portable TV. A small one.
STORE CLERK: Oh, alright. How small?
LIGHT: Small enough to fit into your pocket.
CLERK: Oh, you want a pocket TV?
LIGHT: Exactly. The smaller the better.
CLERK: Oh, alright, good... Maybe you’d be better off looking on the ground floor.
LIGHT: Where they sell the cell phones?
CLERK: Yes. Practically every smartphone can stream TV nowadays.
LIGHT (in annoyed sing-song): But I don’t want a smartphone. I want a TV.
CLERK: Yes, okay, fine! Of course. I’m just saying. If you want a screen that fits into your pocket, then usually--
LIGHT: I said it before. I don’t want a cell phone. I also don’t want to use the internet. I don’t want to stream. I don’t want a two-way data transfer.
CLERK: But--
LIGHT: I want a device that’s constructed to receive and display a TV signal. And I want this device to be small.
CLERK: Alright, I’ll just the manager real quick.
____
A continuation of the Tommy Smith report. After his death it turned out he was a killer who was now in witness protection. People from the village get interviewed. Tommy Smith was a perfectly fine citizen to them.
____
MANAGER: Hello, sir. I’ve heard you’re looking for a portable TV?
LIGHT: That’s correct.
MANAGER: Did Gina tell you about our offers in regards to smartphones?
LIGHT: I don’t want one. Do you have portable TVs or not?
MANAGER: You’re actually serious.
LIGHT: The customer is always right, isn’t that so?
MANAGER: Well, we haven’t sold something like that in years. And even second-hand, you’ll probably be out of luck. An analogue terrestric signal hasn’t been broadcasted in forever. That means that everything that was produced ca. 2002 is only a useless pile of metal today. But wait... we still sell pro monitors! It’s what directors use to see what the camera is filming.
LIGHT: And those can receive TV signal?
MANAGER: Sure. But it really won’t be cheap.
LIGHT (sighs): I’ll pay in cash.
____
Muffled TV noises with cheesy lines.
SACHIKO: Sayu dear, do we really have to watch this during dinner?
SAYU: He’ll say it now!
LIGHT: Who’s saying what?
SAYU: He’s been taking his time for ten episodes now!
SACHIKO: But you can record it and watch it later...
SAYU: Can not! I need to send my tweet right when he says it! Exactly in that moment!
LIGHT: In what moment?
HIDEKI RYUGA (muffled from TV): I love you.
Sayu gasping frantically.
SAYU: Yes! Yes! Oooooh my god. Oh my god! He said it! He told her! Hideki Ryuga is such a dream...
SACHIKO: And here I thought the guy was playing for the other team...
SAYU: Why can’t my school have men like you, Hideki?
SACHIKO: Sayu, now come and eat your dinner.
SAYU: But mom...
____
The dinner conversation plays muffled. A phone rings. L picks up.
L: Matsuda, what’s up?
MATSUDA: Absolutely incredible. Hideki just confessed his feelings to Miko.
L (through grit teeth): In the Kitamura household...
MATSUDA: They’re all watching channel 4. The whole family is parked on the couch in front of the TV.
Since everyone is watching the same channel, they’re broadcasting their fake message about 1500 agents being on the Kira task force now. Light calls them idiots for announcing this on the media. He also calls out that it’s an exaggeration by the police rather than true news. And he then takes chips and goes up to study.
_____
Ryuk explains some more about the cameras, that there are 64 and they cover every inch of the room.
_____
SOICHIRO: What is he doing?
L: Studying. XXL party bag of chips, but... he’s studying.
SOICHIRO: This is exactly what we call a negative positive.
L: What do you mean, chief inspector?
SOICHIRO: We get a ton of equipment just to find out my son is doing.. nothing.
L: We still don’t know how Kira gets his victims into his scope.
SOICHIRO: But we can strongly suspect Kira isn’t doing so by reading books and eating flips.
L: Chips.
SOICHIRO: They are flips.
L: Chips is the genus.
They are interrupted by another task force member (Matsuda?), mad about them wasting time watching Light doing nothing.
_____
Light and Ryuk go out to the park, so that Ryuk can eat an apple. Light explains that nobody else likes Barbecue taste in this family (they kept the flavor change from the VIZ translation) and thus he can hide the TV in his flips bag. When Ryuk calls it a chips bag, Light actively corrects that it’s flips. Seems to run in the family.
_____
L is woken up because Ukita is calling on the phone about new murders that weren’t reported on while none of the suspects could have seen the news. L is suspicious that the family is cleared right on the first day of surveillance. Soichiro is annoyed.
______
The trash gets taken out and Ryuk points out how expensive the TV was, just like in the manga. Ryuk calls it a chips bag again and Light corrects to ‘flips bag’ again.
______
A news report about Misa’s stalker dying. Misa herself is on air, recounting the event and claiming that Kira protected her like a guardian angel.
_____
Paula Virilio calling L. She’s at a poolside because the FBI stint got her suspended. She wants L to rethink his illegal surveillance plans, since he might otherwise end up like her. L tells her the cameras were already removed. L briefly speculates that Kira might actually be God, then immediately gets rid of the thought. It’s the same as the thoughts he has as an internal monologue in the manga. Virilio says that once Light’s innocence is proven, he’ll be a totally normal college student again, and that gives L an idea....
_____
SOMEONE: You want to do what?
L: The entrance exams for college are next week. I’ll participate in them and naturally pass and thus go to college with Light Yagami. Look at him up-close, in person.
Agents laughing.
MATSUDA: L, come on, it’s not that easy.
SOMEONE: Light does his entrance exams at To-Oh. That’s basically the best in the country.
MATSUDA: The average exam-taker passes at fourth try only. Those kids prepare for years.
L: Yagami seems pretty confident...
SOMEONE: He passed the test exams as the best. He’s the cleverest guy in the whole country.
L: Out of the known guys.
More laughter.
MATSUDA: Seriously now. You want to come in there, basically from the streets, and beat Japan’s best?
L: Hmm, yes.
MATSUDA: I’ll tell the others. We’ll open a betting pool.
L: No, we’re not telling anyone. We’re just doing it.
MATSUDA: Just... doing it?
L: Yeah, we’ll register and all. I’ll write the tests.
MATSUDA: Okay, but you’ll have to give them a name.
L: Then let’s give them a name.
MATSUDA: Which name?
L: Just come up with something. Anything.
[ Side note but I have no idea if all of the Matsuda speech here is Matsuda, men’s voices are killing me. ]
____
L approaches Light at college and Light is annoyed, until L introduces himself as L. L is being a huge brat in this scene as well (”Oh come on, Light. You’re cleverer than you let on. Or at least I hoped so.”). Light lets on that he knows Kira needs a name, L points out that they haven’t released that info. Light justifies it by it being obvious because L is using a fake name.
L says Light could help with the investigation and invites Light to coffee. (He’s paying!)
_____
Soichiro and Kitamura are talking. Kitamura is noticing that he’s being watched and confronts Soichiro about it. (”Since Christmas, there’s been a few too many gas leaks in our street... or electric workers... even Jehova’s Witnesses have suddenly risen from their graves. I think if I was a criminal, I’d suspect someone is looking for excuses to snoop through my house. And then I think... No. Because last time I checked my business card, it said goddamn general inspector top honcho of the whole national police department! ”)
____
Light is hiding out in the café bathroom, having his little speech about L challenging him and him taking the challenge of them playing friends. (”Alright, L. You wanna be my buddy? Chill out with me? Let’s do it. Let’s see who breaks first.”) He’s far less angry than he is in the manga in this scene.
____
Ukita and Matsuda are supervising the scene from outside the café and L is bugged, too.
____
L tells Light he suspects him of being Kira. The L and Light dialogues in this episode are largely fairly close to the manga without too many amusing quips or interesting new bits.
____
Soichiro and Kitamura keep arguing about the necessity of surveillance. Soichiro discloses that his son is a main suspect.
SOICHIRO: The team is currently out trying to cross my son of the list once and for all.
KITAMURA: How can they do so?
SOICHIRO: Face to face.
KITAMURA: Isn’t that dangerous?
SOICHIRO: Mortally so.
KITAMURA: What exactly are they doing?
SOICHIRO: They’re probably having  coffee together.
KITAMURA: Hah. Well that’s at least some not totally wasted working hours.
SOICHIRO: If you have a better idea, just come right out with it!
KITAMURA: How about this? Catch me a killer.
SOICHIRO (tense): I’m sorry it’s not going fast enough for you.
_____
L shows Light the ‘L did you know’ message. Now (unlike at first mention), they point out the coded nature of the messages. L also gives out the faked ‘and they have red hands’ message addition.
_____
Kitamura is still pissed about the Kira investigation not going anywhere and how it impacts his reputation. Soichiro gets extremely angry that they don’t have enough men and that just getting paid some more doesn’t solve the problem.
SOICHIRO: Can you even imagine the pressure these men are under? Men with families? With children? I don’t think you can! If this was a flu epidemic, you’d mobilize the army. But sadly it’s just a row of unexplained heart attacks. So I’m left with just half a dozen men.
KITAMURA: I gave you a cheque book with endless credit, Yagami.
SOICHIRO: Money doesn’t solve the problem, sir. The men think my task force is a suicide mission!
KITAMURA: Maybe that’s what it is, Yagami. But if we admit the full truth, we’ll have a nationwide panic.
SOICHIRO: We’re doing all we can. Everything. We’re following every hint. This criminal is smarter than any we’ve met before. He’s invisible! And kills from a distance! So... yes. I will bug your home, if it brings us even a centimeter closer to the truth. I can’t remember when I last slept. I haven’t shaved in days. And I go home and face my little boy, my firstborn, with all his potential.... his charm... his mother’s eyes... and grades most parents can only dream of... And I have to pretend... I have to... ghhgg. Uughh... [having heart attack noises]
____
Light says he wants his dad to prove L’s identity as L to him before he joins the investigation. Then both of them get the phone call that Soichiro is in the hospital.
____
In the hospital. Soichiro’s gonna be fine, hurray. It was just stress. L lets Soichiro know that Light is gonna join the team now despite still being a suspect. That’s all the content in this conversation, everything else from the manga is cut. Soichiro asks L to watch over Light and L is like ‘yeah, I won’t take my eyes off him’.
Light immediately calls that out when they’re out of the room. (”Is that supposed to be funny?”). L and Light part ways outside the hospital, promising to find Kira together.
L’s car leaves, Ryuk points out that Light is playing with fire. Light ends the episode with the words “The game has begun.”
[Interview Translation & Photos] Kuroba Mario x Sakiyama Tsubasa "One’s current location"
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think I have this in my draft a couple of weeks ago already orz, but I really decided I wanted to translate this the moment it was published. This interview was posted on HOMINIS, August 7. You can check the original source HERE.
Also, a big thank you to my co-founder of the Tsubasa Trash Community @pamsurowka for helping me in some parts, especially that part lol. Please, don’t repost this.
You can find the translation and more photos under the cut~
"Oretabi" (TV Kanagawa) is a documentary series in which a pair of young actors travel around the world. At the beginning of "Season 1" in January 2015, Murai Ryota and Sato Takashi went to Broadway, New York. Matsuda Ryo and Hatakeyama Ryo went to Taiwan and after that, many actors visited Hong Kong, Indonesia, Thailand, Vietnam, etc., and showed us the other side of places we cannot see on stages or television.
And in January 2019, it was decided the latest broadcast of "Oretabi Season 5". Kuroba Mario and Sakiyama Tsubasa, who have a close relationship and co-starred in the musical "Touken Ranbu", went to Seoul, South Korea, where they experienced contents such as Taekwondo and Korean beauty.
Kuroba Mario and Sakiyama Tsubasa have already appeared in "Oretabi Season 4" in 2018, where they enjoyed a trip around the Hawaiian attractions. Before this program is broadcasted, we heard Kuroba and Sakiyama's memories from their trip and the feelings of “staying in their current location".
Tumblr media
Please tell us about the most impressive places from your trip to Hawaii in "Oretabi Season 4".
Sakiyama: For me it was the first time visiting Hawaii, but I had that image of Hawaii = Diamond Head. I really wanted to climb that place before going. When you are actually climbing it, the sight from there is beautiful... how can you say beyond the word "beautiful"? I was wrapped by the sense of liberation. It was such a place that made me feel small.
Kuroba: For me it was the first day when we went to the prestigious Iruka Institute. I don’t go to the sea in Japan, but if I do, I don’t go diving (under water), so swimming there was a refreshing feeling. It makes me want to go to the sea again because I can't forget I actually swam with fishes and turtles. I thought "I'm alive!" *laughs*
Tumblr media
While watching the program, it felt as if Kuroba-san was the older brother.
Kuroba & Sakiyama: *laughs*
Kuroba: Because I was in front of the camera.
Sakiyama: Kuroba-kun was the facilitator for the segments, so I was allowed to move freely *laughs* And because I'm the youngest child, surely, I might have the character of the youngest child, but Kuroba-kun seemed to not be against it, I wonder?
Kuroba: Or rather being spoiled, you were relaxed, weren't you? Depending on the situation, there may be times we reverse the situation according to our ages in which Sakiyama-kun will give you a feeling of being the older brother *laughs*
Tumblr media
Kuroba-san was a runner-up for the 23rd JUNON SUPERBOY CONTEST and Sakiyama-san was a reader model since his school days. I think there are many opportunities to perform in movies and dramas. On the other hand, how do you feel being in a situation where you are in the successful 2.5-dimensional world, including the musical "Touken Ranbu"?
Sakiyama: Well, I always had the goal to be in this industry for a long time and I've come so far thinking about doing a lot of things. You can simply watch dramas and movies, but in the 2.5 dimensional world, you can hold events, meet and talk to fans directly. That's a really nice thing and also receiving fan letters and blog comments give me energy. The distance of the 2.5 dimensional world is close. I had no idea until I experienced it. It's a world I never imagined it, so it's a big thing for me and I want to continue doing it from now on.
Kuroba: When I made my debut, the first thing I imagined at that time was appearing in “Getsuku” (also known as “Monday Nine”) (1)  at the age of 25 years old, my current age. It was an idea when I was still an amateur, but of course, this isn’t a sweet world. But I think that the current environment is blessed. I think there are a lot of actors of the same age as me who work on the stage of 2.5 dimensional world. It might be a big difference not being seen in dramas or movies. Instead, new children are coming out, both in a good and bad sense. We work really aimlessly, but since we are already making a living in this world, it's good if we can jab a lot of things and consider it as a weapon if we happen to come across it.
Tumblr media
Finally, please give a message to the readers of "Hominis".
Sakiyama: In "Oretabi Season 4" we are going to enjoy and introduce you to the most advanced places. It was my first time in Hawaii, but I want you to go there because I think you will want to go as well after watching the program.
Kuroba: And after playing, I also want you to (take a journey) to a sacred place. We left a message in the places we visited, so we hope that you will visit the prestigious Iruka Institute and the Diamond Head as well as us to feel the atmosphere of Hawaii together!
(1)  Monday Nine or Getsuku is the term given to the TV schedule period of Monday night 21:00 (JST). It is believed that Japanese dramas aired in this timeslot are most anticipated and watched, and are usually of the romance genre.
For the character meme: junko!
Thank you Nina!!!
From here: A MORE DETAILED CHARACTER MEME!
What I like about them:
I think the plot twist revealing that Junko was very much alive and that the “Junko” that had been killed was her maternal twin sister is really cool! Just the fact that she was able to pull that off was amazing. I think in terms of her outfit and character design in general, she’s definitely living up to Ultimate Fashionista, and for whatever reason, she is really pleasing and fin to write/draw. She’s thus far the only competent mastermind DR ever had (I think she did it best in DR2 personally)
What I dislike about them:
Just about everything else ^^; She’s literally got no background, even though she’s definitely a character you’d assume would have a really interesting background. Her talent actually being Ultimate Analyst is not something that should mean that she could copy talents. While it is cool to have a character like Junko, a girl you’d least expect being smart in the stereotypical fashion, at the same time, she’s just... nuts. I can’t get into a character that doesn’t have a reason to be crazy, and no other motive than Despair. I of course also don’t like that she literally ruins peoples lives, lol. She’s kinda of a neutral character for me over all, where I don’t hate her, but I also don’t like her.
Favorite moment:
Probably when she meets Izuru? It’s so wild XD And I don’t mean it because of a certain meme line, but because it shows how she views Despair. I’m not sure if I fully believe it, of course, since to me, it looks more like she was goading Izuru into joining her.
Least favorite moment:
Basically as soon as she appears in the first game XD Like, I’m just not a fan of her constantly switching personalities in the first game. The personalities were a bit more fun in the second game, I feel? The whole cliche of the world actually being in an apocalyptic state and such was not so exciting for me. Because she appears so late, we didn’t really get to know her much. Yet, she is still the Danganronpa icon XD
A situation with this character that I want to see explored more:
I want to force Kodaka to give her a backstory, lol. Like, please, put some effort into this well-known character? And also, I want to see what she did while in class with the DR1 cast. In DR3, we focused too much on her and some other pointless things, and not enough on the class she was in. We only catch a glimpse of the interaction in the end as the DR1 cast tries to lock themselves up inside.
An interesting AU for this character:
I don’t know... I’ve read some interesting fantasy-ish kinds of AUs, but I’m a real sucker for those XD Maybe an AU where she starts off as Ryoko, but then develops a Junko personality in a “Jekyll and Hyde” kind of deal?
A crossover:
The problem of always being stuck in one fandom at a time XD I just don’t know, the only thing I could offer is Kingdom Hearts AU, where she would most definitely be there in place of the main villain, lol.
OTP (or OT3+ etc…. just… favourite ship):
Junko is so hard to ship with people because for the most part, things end in disaster, usually resulting in a really unhealthy relationship. The only thing that can be called an OTP is Jun//zuru. I really liked their dynamic, they made a fun duo XD She’s so out there, and he’s so calm and unfeeling. I don’t think a ship like that could ever last (since he so obviously hates her, especially for managing to trick him), but I also rather like the ship and how it looks.
Other ships?
For the simple reason that they were both able to surprise Junko with hope, Makoto and Hinata! I read one good fanfic where Hinata and Junko were friends? In a relationship? It’s unclear since it went back and forth between the past as Hajime and the Future as Izuru. She had left a big enough impact on Hajime before he went on to become Izuru that Izuru is somehow able to recognize her in that story, and ever since I’ve been trying to find some kind of fanart, lol. Also, MakotoxJunko is just a really cool ship to me, because Hope and Despair opposites, and it just seems cute to me, even if it is simultaneously messed up lol. I just feel like if there was anyone able to date Junko and not fall for her corruption, it would be Naegi. Whether that “saves” Junko or not, that is another question. Also, I guess Matsuda? But I just was not able to read Zero, such a boring read that I never continued it. I know the basics though.
BROTP:
Just Izuru? I mean, if we take Mukuro from IF, then that was a really cool dynamic too. DR3 Mukuro though... :P I’m not a fan of such a submissive sister...
NOTP:
Just about everyone else besides Makoto/Hajime/Izuru. But especially Junk//omaeda and Junk///omiki. Just NO.
An assortment of headcanons!
Junko actually shows hatred for who she loves, and shows love to those she hates. THat is why she treats Mukuro so poorly: Mukuro is the one person who can understand her. Mukuro is the one person who she can talk to without fibbing. But Mukuro is not always with her- Mukuro left her to unloving parents to go fight in wars without her “little” sister, who would have also been able to hold her own. And that’s where the feigned hatred comes from.
Junko is very disgusted by Hope’s Peak Academy, but also highly amused that such a place supposed to inspire Hope is writhing in potential Despair. Hope’s Peak made such a big name for itself that it’s own misplaced values would be used against them. She despises Hope’s Peak, and so she ruins it.
Junko didn’t use her own classmates as Remnants of Despair in the end, but from the beginning she had planned to. She knew from the start that she was going to destroy the school, so she didn’t expect to care much for her class. However, in keeping up with the act of innocence, she found herself becoming friends with them. That friendship doomed them- she was starting to love them so much, she was itching for an opportunity to kill them in the worst ways possible. Meanwhile, an opportunity came straight to her in the form of Nanami and Komaeda, and she now had a class that she cared nothing for to become her disciples and catalyssts of Despair. It was a good thing that class had connections that would help them spread Despair internationally.
While DR1′s killing game was going on, Junko had been texting Kamukura about everything she could and how much Despair she was having. When she destroys Alter Ego and erased his data from the system inside of the school, she asks Kamukura for a favor, knowing he’d do it because she knows he has plans against her as well. That is why it is such a shock to see that Naegi’s execution was stopped by Alter Ego: This truly is exciting now! She starts to slip more and more, pretty much allowing Naegi and the others to come to the conclusion that she was, indeed, the mastermind.
How to Properly Adapt Death Note in 105 Minutes
           Alright, motherfuckers, I, like every other Death Note fan, watched one of my favorite franchises get shat all over for the sake of making a lame black comedy whose only goal seemed to be shitting on the source material because Adam Wingard comes off to me as thinking it’s stupid.  A lot of people have been saying that “they only had 105 minutes” and “it’s an adaption so it couldn’t have been something that pleased fans”.  I’ve written an outline for how to do a Death Note movie in 105 minutes that is accessible to American audiences while pleasing fans. It sets up for a sequel, yeah, but I think Death Note’s record of success when done right means that’s not much of a risk.  The goal here is to prove that even when not allowed the thirteen-hour-long episode season of a Netflix series it deserves that the material can still be dynamically entertaining because it’s just that strong.  I also set out to prove that if a 21-year-old hick with no professional experience in writing can write something that functions well enough to appease both the fans I know and have shared this with and people who don’t know the material (like my middle-aged father!) then there is no reason that professionals hired by Netflix couldn’t do the same.  Read my outline below the cut.
Setting:
New York City makes the most sense as a parallel to Tokyo since it is just as heavily associated with its native country outside of said country. It also allows for a rich backdrop for the movie to pull from both in terms of casting and in terms of scenery. Characters:
Light Yagami- As the surname implies, Light and his family are all Japanese-Americans played by Japanese-American actors.  Light is one of the top students in the country, and the top law student at his university. He is charismatic and suave.  He dresses sharp, and keeps a room that is neat but not obsessively so.  He is conniving and cocky.  He is obsessed with purifying the world, and will do anything it takes to accomplish this goal.  He explains his complex plans to Ryuk so we, the audience, can keep up.
Sorichiro Yagami- Hardworking and dedicated, Sorichiro is one of the finest among New York’s finest.  He is a believer in the justice system despite its faults.  A great police captain, he is an even better father and husband.  He’s the reason for Light’s being a law-student and his sense of justice.
Ryuk- The only character not in need of recasting or redesigning from the Wingard film, most of Ryuk’s alterations are characterization-based. Ryuk has an easy-come-easy-go attitude towards the events of the film.  He has no investment in either Light’s success or failure as would be expected from the sort that drops a Death Note for just any human to find. Snarky, creepy, and adorable in a bulldog sort of way, Ryuk is Light’s companion for most of the film.
Misa Amane- Barely factoring into the film, Misa is a musician with a goth-lolita aesthetic who rocketed to success after starting out on YouTube as MisaMisa.  Her only appearance in the film is a scene where Ryuk is watching a talk-show.  She is also to be played by an Japanese-American actor.
L- The world’s greatest detective and the Holmes to Light’s Moriarty, L needs to be as interesting to the audience as Kira himself.  L’s sense of justice is the cause his insomnia because it drives him to always be working cases under one alias or another.  A believer in the human capacity for change, L is disturbed by Kira and his popularity, but he is also excited to encounter an opponent that’s his intellectual equal.  A person with Asperger’s, L has a preference for looser clothing, hatred of socks and any similarly rough fabrics, and particular ways of sitting and holding things.  He has a great fondness for any and all sweets.  L’s actor needs to be an unknown with the ability to be unconventionally attractive similar to the likes of Johnny Depp or Jared Leto.  His actor should be British, and should be shown some of Juliani and Stanfield’s performances in order to get a handle on the character’s way of speaking.  I would like for his actor to be white since L’s design from the manga and anime is one of my favorite in fiction, but I’d have no problem casting someone of another ethnicity if their performance during an audition felt like the right fit for the role to me.
Watari- An old inventor and ex-British military sniper, Watari, like Alfred Pennyworth, is an English gentlemen’s gentlemen.  His being L’s financial support and public representative makes sense seeing as he’s the one responsible for raising the eccentric detective.  This doesn’t need to be explicitly stated in the film, but instead shown through small, tender moments like Watari fetching L a blanket or sweet he didn’t ask for.  His real name is Quillish Wammy, though that wouldn’t be revealed in this film, and race is unimportant in the casting of his character.
The Kira Investigation Task Force- The men who stuck around following the deaths of the 50 F.B.I. agents, the Task Force are all brave souls dedicated to the arrest of Kira.  Mostly serving as an everyman’s way into L’s methods and an excuse for L to explain his plans to the audience, the characterization here doesn’t have to be too strong save for Matsuda and Aizawa.   *Matsuda is a rookie detective whose age allows for him to have the most open mind when it comes to Kira.  He still wants Kira caught, but he sees why so many support the killer.
*Aizawa is the most skeptical about working with L.  He feels the detective has a way of using people that comes from a mindset too similar to Kira’s for his liking.
The Task Force should be casted as multiracial to take advantage of NYC’s melting-pot population and give representation.  They receive their original names from the manga as aliases from L upon meeting him in person as a safety precaution.
Raye Penber- The F.B.I. agent charged with pursuing Light Yagami and fiancé to Naomi Misora, Raye is a man who opposes Kira as deeply as he loves his bride-to-be.  He needs to have a good chemistry with Naomi so that the audience feels his death’s impact after only a scene or two with them together.  He needs to be attractive in a James Bond sort of way.  His actor should be Japanese-American, and someone who is unopposed to returning for a possible prequel adapting events of Death Note: Another Note: The Los Angeles B.B. Murder Cases.
Naomi Misora- Equal parts loving fiancé and cunning ex-F.B.I. agent, Naomi Misora is Light’s greatest threat after L.  Having resigned from the F.B.I. in hopes of pursuing a career in writing and as wife and mother, Naomi is devastated by the loss of her husband. Her pursuit of Light Yagami is fueled by her hatred for Kira’s ideology and revenge for Raye, and is ultimately what gets her killed.  Her death should subtly upset L to hint at one-sided feelings for the doomed woman picked up during the briefly alluded to L.A. B.B. Murder Cases.  She should be played by a Japanese-American actor who isn’t opposed to possibly returning for a prequel adapting those events down the line.
Plot:
The skeleton for the plot here is the first Japanese live-action film.
The film opens with Light Yagami , a second-year law student who feels aimless in his path to become a part of a system he sees flaws in, bored in his seat-by-the-window during one of his classes.  These feelings would usually either lead to a career of cynicism or of bucking said system, but things take an unusual turn when Light sees a notebook drop out of the sky during one of his classes.  After class, he picks up the notebook, called “Death Note”, and finds a list of rules written inside of the front cover.
1.      The Human Whose Name is Written in This Notebook Shall Die.
2.      If a Cause of Death is Not Written Within 40 Seconds of Writing a Name, The Human Will Simply Die of a Heart Attack.
3.        After Writing the Cause of Death, Six Minutes are Allotted to Provide Details for Circumstances Surrounding The Death.
He assumes the notebook to be a morbid prank.
The next scene has Light discover the authenticity of its powers after writing down the name of a man holding a gas station hostage after seeing live news coverage of the event on the TV in his room.  Initially horrified, Light decides to use the Death Note to clean up the world after a court case that gave a rapist a three-year prison sentence is discussed in one of his classes the next day.
The next scene is set a few days after this with Light returning home to his room to find what is apparently a demon waiting for him.  The demon explains it is actually a bored god of death, or Shinigami, named Ryuk who dropped the Death Note, what is used by Shinigami to fulfill their job of killing humans, in the human world so “something interesting” would happen.  He spends the rest of the film eating apples and cracking wise.  Light learns only people who have touched the Death Note can see Ryuk after his sister comes in his room wanting help with her math homework.
Through a montage, we see that Light’s killing of criminals, initially only local and then international, soon garners him a following on the internet in places like Facebook, Tumblr, Reddit, and 4Chan.  The name Kira, based on saying “Killer” with a Japanese accent, catches on as the way his supporters refer to him online.  The media calls the killings “ a strange series of heart attacks”.
The next scene shows NYPD Captain Sorichiro being called to the Commissioner’s office, and finding a well-dressed old, British man called “Watari” waiting for him alongside the commissioner.  Watari explains that he represents “L”, the world’s greatest detective. The police commissioner explains that Watari is the public’s only direct line to L.  Watari then pulls a laptop from his briefcase, and opens it to reveal a white screen with a black Old English style “L” in the center.  A voice put through several digital filters greets the men in the room, and declares itself to be L.  L tells the men of Interpol’s debate over the cause of so many criminal deaths, and that he suspects the deaths to be murders.  His reasoning is that criminals being so specifically targeted makes a disease unlikely.  He suspects these murders to be perpetrated by a single killer somehow since the range of the killings would take a number of people working together that would make success as unlikely as a disease.  He accompanies his reasoning with charts displaying information backing him up displayed on the laptop screen.  L says that he would like to work with the NYPD to assemble a 50-man task force with Sorichiro at its head because he suspects Kira may be operating out of New York City since that’s where the initial killings were located.
Next up is a scene of Light’s family greeting Light’s father, who is revealed to be Sorichiro, after he’s gotten home from work.  He mentions the NYPD doing something about Kira after Light’s sister mentions her classmates talking about the killer at school. Ryuk laughs over Light’s Dad unknowingly being after him.
We then get a scene of the Task Force’s HQ being set up.  L speaks to the men, again through a laptop Watari brings, commenting on their bravery and how he will be releasing a public statement against Kira.
We cut to Light watching TV in his room only for the broadcast to be interrupted by what is called a worldwide broadcast.  A man named Lind L. Taylor appears on screen, and declares himself to be L.  He speaks out against Kira, calling him evil and childish, and claiming he will single handedly apprehend the criminal.  Light, feeling insulted by this, writes Taylor’s name in the Death Note.  After Taylor dies of a heart attack, Light gloats to Ryuk, but is interrupted when the broadcast cuts to the “L screen” previously seen on the Watari’s laptop.  L’s synthesized voice expresses astonishment at how well his plan worked. He addresses Kira directly as he explains that the man named Lind L. Taylor was an inmate on death row set to be executed that night who had agreed to pretend to be L in exchange for being pardoned in the event that Kira didn’t kill him during his TV appearance.  L adds that the broadcast wasn’t actually a worldwide broadcast but limited to New York City.  Had Taylor lived, the plan would have been implemented in different areas using different inmates.  L knows Kira’s location, and that a name and face are needed for him to kill.  He dares Kira to kill him without having either on the detective.  Ryuk thinks this all hilarious, and Light is furious.  L declares that he is justice, and the broadcast ends.
A montage of television programs discussing L’s TV appearance plays, ending with singer Misa Amane expressing her support for Kira.  It’s shown that it’s Ryuk that’s been looking at these TV shows, and he turns to tell Light how badly he’s been shown up. Light tells Ryuk he’s already going to get back at L.  Using his father’s username and password, Light looks at inmates convicted in cases involving rape, murder, or child molestation, and uses the Death Note to make them all write suicide notes on the walls of their cells using their own blood before committing suicide in differently specific ways that test the limitations of the Death Note.
We next have a scene of the Task Force discussing the deaths, and realizing that there is a message to L hidden in the first letter of each sentence in the notes that can only be seen when they are examined together.  The message is, “L, did you know that gods of death love apples?” L says that the message isn’t the real point of these deaths, but it was to show that Kira can control people’s actions before they die.
The next scene is of Light and Ryuk walking through a park. Light’s wearing a Bluetooth headset so that he doesn’t look like a crazy person while talking to Ryuk.  Ryuk tells Light that someone is following him, and is only telling him because it makes the Shinigami feel like he’s the one being watched.  Ryuk says it’s been three days since this began when Light asks him.
Next is L telling the Task Force that he has F.B.I. agents tailing members of each of their families.  When they express outrage, L explains that Kira has to have a connection not only to law enforcement in general but specifically the Task Force to know to access the database the NYPD keeps on inmates in relatively local prisons since no one outside of L, Watari, the commissioner, and actual members of the Task Force know that L is working with the NYPD.  This quiets the discontent some, and it is totally killed when Captain Yagami expresses his support of L’s plan.
Next we have Light in his room writing names in the Death Note when Ryuk tells him that there is a simple way to figure out the name of his stalker. He explains all Shinigami have eyes capable of seeing the names and lifespans of all humans they see in order to do their job of writing names in their Death Notes, and that Light can be given this sight with no change in the appearance of his eyes in exchange for half of his remaining years of life.  Light declines this offer, and tells Ryuk he already has a plan.
 We then have a scene of the man tailing Light returning home to his fiancé, a woman named Naomi Misora.  She’s working on a novel about a young man searching for his missing friend from college. He says he’ll be able to focus on their wedding again soon as he’ll be done with tailing the families he’s been assigned to follow Friday.  Naomi asks if he thinks that any of them could be Kira, and he tells her no.  He adds that she would be the better out of the two of them to ask since she was good enough to work with L when she was in the F.B.I.  She dismisses him by saying she’d rather focus on writing and loving him than Kira.
Next we have Light getting on a bus to the zoo with his stalker close behind.  Light spends the first few seconds of the ride with his headphones in and watching a video on his phone.  This is all interrupted, though, when a man with a gun takes the bus hostage.  He uses the driver’s radio to demand $10,000 from the zoo.  Light looks to the seats behind him to see his stalker sitting in the seat directly behind his.  Light asks him if he wants to do something about the hijacker, and the man agrees. Before they do anything, though, Light wants proof that the man isn’t working with the hijacker.  After a moment’s hesitation, the man shows an F.B.I. badge revealing his name to be “Raye Penber”.  Satisfied, Light says he’ll pass him a note since the hijacker’s about to turn his attention back to the passengers.  Light drops the paper as he’s passing it, and the hijacker notices.  After reading the paper, he points his gun at Light’s face, and asks him if he’s “Some kind of hero?!”.  Before he can kill Light, though, he notices Ryuk standing in the aisle of the bus.  Ryuk expresses surprise and laughs when he realizes that the paper must’ve been torn from a page in the Death Note.  Panicking, the hijacker shoots at Ryuk, the bullets just passing through to break the rear window, and demands the driver stop the bus.  He runs out of the bus only to be hit by a car.  After the police let Light leave the scene, Ryuk asks him if the hijacker was a criminal Light wrote would do all of that in the Death Note to which Light answers yes.  He adds that the incident would have always ended in his favor since he would have at least seemed “too noble” to be Kira had Penber provided some other means of proving he wasn’t working with the hijacker, but the name will allow for Light to send a message.
Next is a scene of Raye telling Naomi over breakfast that he won’t be able to go with her to meet with the priest like they’d planned .  Naomi, confused, asks Raye why, but he tells her he can’t say.
Next is Raye going down to a subway to catch a 1:00 PM train heading to some arbitrary location.  He is approached from behind from a disguised, hoodie-wearing-Light, who tells him that he is Kira, and that he will kill everyone around them unless he complies to his demands.  Light speaks in harsh whisper to mask his voice somewhat.  Raye complies, and takes the seat next to the door of the train at Light’s instruction.  He takes a manila envelope containing a cheap cellphone, sheet of paper, and a pen from the luggage rack also at Light instruction.  The phone rings, and Light is on the other end of the line.  He tells Penber to write the names of his fellow F.B.I. agents current tailing anyone in relation to the Kira Investigation. Raye says he doesn’t know the names. He asks for Raye’s superior that is heading the team of agents, and Penber gives it to him.  A few moments later, Raye receives a phone call from his superior, and is told the names of his fellow agents.  Light again tells him to write down the names, and Raye does so this time.  Raye is told to put the cellphone, pen, and paper back in the envelope before placing it back on the luggage rack, and that he is to get off at the train’s next stop. As all of this occurs, a narration from Light begins.  “Raye Penber. Heart attack.  He cancels any and all plans he has, and tells no one why. He heads to the subway for the 1:00 PM train heading for ((Insert Arbitrary Location Here)).  There, he encounters the man known as Kira, and complies with the man’s demands.  He gets off at the stop that comes after his compliance, and dies.”  Towards the end of the narration, Raye gets off the train, turns to find a smiling-and-envelope-holding Light standing behind the now closed train doors, and die, shocked, reaching towards his killer as the train departs.
Next is Light and Ryuk exiting the subway, and entering a dirty alleyway.  Light pulls out a bottle of some flammable liquid from his hoodie pocket, pours the liquid all over the envelope, and drops a match.  He adds the bottle into the resulting fire, and smiles knowingly at Ryuk.
We cut to Captain Yagami informing the Task Force that all 50 of the F.B.I. agents tailing their families and the man supervising the agents have died of heart attacks.  He says that, in light of this, any who wish to exit the investigation are free to do so without consequence.  All but six men take this offer.  Captain Yagami tells L that there are only seven of them left.  L expresses disappointment while complimenting the bravery of the seven.  One of the men (Aizawa) rebukes this compliment by insulting L for hiding himself from the world and keeping them at an arm’s length.  L takes this to heart, and tells the men to meet him at a specific hotel in two days.  The same man who rebuked L’s compliment asks why they have to do this, and Watari tells him that they are going to be meeting L.
Our next scene is of Raye Penber’s funeral with a vengeful Naomi watching her fiancé’s casket be lowered into the ground.
We then cut to the Task Force arriving in the lobby of the designated hotel to find Watari waiting for them.  The old man leads them to the room where L is staying.  After they enter, a man about Light’s age with pale skin, messy black hair, a white long-sleeve shirt, and baggy blue jeans comes out, and reveals himself to be L after greeting them.  Each member of the Task Force gives their name in return, and L tells them that they would all be dead if he were Kira.  He gives each member their corresponding manga name as an alias, and asks for them to refer to him as “Ryuzaki” from now on.  He gives them a pep talk that assures them that justice will prevail in the end.
Next we cut to Naomi talking to the driver of the hijacked bus during his lunchbreak.  She asks him if he saw Raye talking to anyone after showing him a picture of her fiancé. He says he saw him talking to a young guy who didn’t even flinch when the hijacker pointed a gun in his face.
We cut to Watari placing a blanket on L, who has fallen asleep in his crouching/sitting position only for the detective to be awoken by the ringing of his personal cellphone.  Naomi is the one calling him, and he expresses quiet surprise after finding this out.  She tells him she suspects that Light is Kira because of Raye’s death after revealing his name to him, and that she’ll be proven right if she’s found dead soon.  L says he won’t be able to use her claims as proof in a court case since his personal cellphone is the only one he has that isn’t bugged.  She says she knows this, but that she also knows he’ll find something that can be used in court now that he has this information.  Naomi ends the phone call with a “goodbye”.
The next scene begins with L telling the Task Force he wants to bug Captain Yagami and the Commissioner’s houses.  They’re understandably upset, but L explains by showing footage of Raye Penber’s death as captured by security cameras.  He says his shock before dying means he recognized a person on the train, and his reaching even as he dies suggests that person was Kira.  Raye was tailing members of the two families so Kira must have been among them, and killed Raye for getting too close with the deaths of the other agents being a means of covering themselves and an intimidation tactic.  Sorichiro agrees to the bugging of his house under the condition that he and L be the ones to watch the feed with the others watching the commissioner’s. L accepts this condition, and says the observation will only last for two weeks.
 We next have Light returning home to his room.  Ryuk suggests that they play video games now that the human has come home, but Light acts as if the Shinigami isn’t there.  We see L and Sorichiro watching all this and everything else in the house on various screens.  After putting his school things away, Light leaves the house.  He now tells Ryuk that he suspects his room has been bugged, and can’t speak to him in his house until they’re gone.  When asked how he could know such a thing, Light says he’s been putting a pencil lead above the top hinge of his bedroom door as a means of preserving his privacy while away from home since he was a teenager because the lead always breaks when the door is opened.  Ryuk is distressed by his apple supply being cut off, and Light is frustrated over not knowing how L could even suspect him.  Ryuk asks Light just what it is he’s going to do about it, and Light smiles after a moment’s consideration.
We cut to L and a clearly haggard Captain Yagami watching the Captain’s family eat dinner.  L expresses admiration for Sorichiro’s dedication to his family.  Sorichiro asks why Light’s room has the most cameras, and L says Light’s intellect makes him the most likely to be Kira.  On the camera feed, Light says he’s going to his room to do homework.  He grabs a previously opened bag of chips, and heads for his room.  He starts doing his homework, eating chips every few minutes. Downstairs, the local news reports on the apprehension of a man who’d robbed a grocery store, killing three people in the process.  The man suddenly dies of a heart attack.  Light’s shown no change in behavior that would allow for him to see this report. Throughout all of this it should cut between the feed and L and Sorichiro watching it.  The Task Force celebrates Light and the rest of Sorichiro’s family being relieved of suspicion, and L is frustrated.
We cut to reveal Light had a piece of the Death Note, another pen, and a smartphone hidden in the bag of chips.
The next scene is Light leaving school, and none other than Naomi Misora meeting him on the way to his car.  She answers his confusion by telling him her name, and that she knows he is Kira.  Light calls her crazy, trying to get past her, but Misora won’t let him pass.  She tells him that Raye Penber was her fiancé, and that she’ll see him exposed to avenge Raye.  Light pushes past her, and drives off.
We cut to Light getting home to his room.  Ryuk excitedly tells him all the cameras are gone, and Light tosses him an apple he’d been keeping in his desk drawer.
Our next scene has the Task Force arriving to L’s hotel room.  L asks Captain Yagami if he’s enjoyed going home to which the Captain says yes.  L begins to tell them what he thinks their next plan of action should be, but he is interrupted by his cellphone ringing.  He answers to find Naomi once again waiting for him on the other end.  She tells him she’s sending him a link to a video feed so that he can watch Kira confess to his crimes.  L asks her just what she’s planning to do, and she tells him she’s already done what she planned to do before ending the call.  L tells Watari to go to the linked feed.  The feed shows Light tied to a chair, and alone in a dark room.  He seems confused and scared, calling for someone to explain what’s going on.  Sorichiro is horrified, and asks L what’s going on in an accusatory tone.  L tells Watari to begin tracing the feed, and gives the Task Force a summation of what’s going on.  They all watch as Naomi enters the dark room, apparently a warehouse given the door type.  She says she knows Light is Kira, and he’s going to have to either confess or kill her like he killed Raye before she can kill him if he wants to live.  Light denies her accusation, and begs to be let go. This deeply disturbs the Task Force. Naomi begins to torture Light in an attempt to get a confession.  Tension builds as we wait for Watari to find the location.  He finds that the feed is coming from a warehouse called “The Yellow Box” which was used as a location for mob negotiations in decades past. Sorichiro and the Task Force immediately head out.
We cut between their racing towards The Yellow Box and Naomi’s torturing Light.
Naomi pulls out a gun, aiming it at the bleeding and crying Light, saying that she is going to kill him in ten seconds if doesn’t confess or kill her first. Before she can shoot him, though, Sorichiro and the Task Force arrive, telling Naomi to drop her weapon and put her hands above her head.  Naomi, apparently realizing she’s gone too far, asks Raye to forgive her and shoots herself in the head.  Sorichiro unties Light, embracing him and crying over his relief for his son’s safety. He and the other Task Force members walk him out of the warehouse so that he can receive proper medical attention. Over this tender scene, Light narrates,“ Naomi Misora.  Suicide. After abducting the person responsible for her fiancé’s death, she contacts those responsible for the Kira Investigation, and provides them with a way of watching as she tortures her captive in order to get him to confess to being the killer known as Kira.  She threatens to kill her captive, but, upon the intervention of the police, realizes how far she’s taken her search for answers, and ends her life with a gunshot to the head.”
Our final scene starts with Light in his room, now bandaged in the areas where he was most severely injured during his interrogation.  The doorbell rings, and he goes to the door to answer it.  He opens the door to find L on his doorstep.  The detective reveals his identity to Light, and asks to speak with Light inside.  L explains to him that he wants Light to join the Task Force.  He adds that he suspects Light to be Kira.  He talks of how Naomi had called him before Light’s abduction, and how she’d said Light must be Kira if she were to die soon.  He adds how uncharacteristically irrational she was in her final actions, and how they know Kira has the ability to control the actions of his victims before their deaths.  Light counters this by saying that her fiancé’s death must have sent her over the edge, and that he would’ve just killed Naomi while she was torturing if he actually were Kira since he knew her name and face.  Light then asks why L would want him on the Task Force if he suspects that Light is Kira.  L lies that Light’s odds of being Kira are only 5%, and, that if he is wrong about Light being Kira, Light’s track record of successfully assisting the police in previous cases would make him a great asset in finding and arresting the real Kira. Light fakes consideration, and accepts L’s offer by shaking the detective’s hand.  The film closes with Ryuk laughing and saying, “Humans are so interesting!”
Part of Her Castle
Day 1: Touch/Coordination
Summary: If you were the subject of her focus, you’d inevitably feel as grand as the fucking universe. Matsuda couldn't imagine living any other way.
Rating: PG
Warnings: It’s Junko but she’s a kid so she’s not as bad as she could be...yet.
Notes: I’m also writing for the Matsuda Fan Week that I’m hosting over on @hopegroundzero2 among other things. They’re all pretty short fics, but I hope you enjoy them all the same.
Her hand was still grainy with sand as she yanked him along.
“It’s right here! Right there! Can’t miss it, no sireee!”
She’s laughing brightly even as Matsuda scowls back at her, ever unimpressed. Still, she’s not to be deterred even if she’s at least a little antsy. She practically gallops like a horse, and Matsuda suspected that she’d only stomp more if she actually had hooves. He says nothing, even when her yanking gets a little painful. Any harder and she might dislocate his arm.
Although she’s always been reckless, especially at the expense of others. But she also is—genuinely excited, it looks like. Her eyes are sparkling and her grin looks so big it must hurt. Matsuda almost wants to smooth out the hard edges of her smile. Almost. It’d be weird if he did, so he doesn’t dare attempt it.
“Aaaaaand here! There!”
She still practically throws him forward before the sand castle she’s in the process of making.
“What do you think?!”
He was jittery before he was almost sent crashing into the creation. He can’t really think, but when he does look at the castle in all its...incomplete glory...
“You’re doing good so far. Looks like. You couldn’t wait to show me when it was done?”
She just laughs into her hand. Matsuda does note that her nails have already been picked clean. A useless gesture when she wasn’t done, yet—but maybe the texture of sand really did bother her. Sometime, it was hard to tell when it was Junko.
Despite knowing her so well, he’s still not always ready to dodge when she lunges at him, grabbing his arm and squeezing. Bruising.
“I wanted you to watch me work! To direct me! To warn me in case of tsunamis! That kind of thing!”
“Even a dippy idiot like you would know when to expect a tidal wave,” Matsuda snapped, unimpressed. “The waves would recede. You’re too observant for your own good to not notice something like that, even when you get obnoxiously caught up in whatever it is you’re doing.”
“I do get super caught up,” she agrees, and she’s rubbing his arm now. Gently. In almost massage-like motions. A touch meant to be as reassuring as it was manipulative. Her large blue eyes, too, worked their magic, and Matsuda felt weak already. Dangerous. Super dangerous. “I want this castle to turn out eeeeeextra cool. So much so that envious losers will die from ice in their veins when they see it. So, I want to focus more than usual. So, so, can’t you look out for me while I do? Please, Matsuda-kun?” She presses close to him, lower lip quivering. “Pleeeeeease?”
“You’ve already dragged me out this far,” he pointed out. “I don’t think walking away is an option.”
She wouldn’t allow that in the first place.
“Nope!” Junko chirped, beaming at him without a hint of shame. There’s a gleam in her gaze as if she knew as well as he did the power she lauded over him. She entwines their fingers, squeezes briefly, and pulls away. She might as well have shackled him to her with a gesture like that.
He sits down where he is. She turns and immediately gets to work. She moves quiet furiously, digging her fingers into the sand and molding the clumps. She’s quite thorough, detailing intricate designs in the walls and shaping the structures to however she sees fit. Junko’s in her element when she has this much control. She’s in love with it.
Matsuda, captivated, can’t help but be surprised how passionate she is about these whim projects. There’s no one else here to admire and balk at her elaborate process for something as simple as a sandcastle. He can’t imagine how many famous pieces of architecture she may have put to shame with this creation. It’s a sight to behold. Both the castle and Junko’s intense focus.
She’s so focused that it’s like nothing else even exists. It’s pretty unsettling. She dragged him all the way out here so that he could watch her work, and now it’s like his presence doesn’t even matter, isn’t even worth consideration in her orbit. It was another way she was good about making a person feel worthless. On the other, if you were the subject of her focus the way that damn castle was, you’d inevitably feel as grand as the fucking universe.
She’s scary like that, he couldn’t help but think. The fact that she knows the kind of effect she has on people, too—it’s scary. Right now I feel like I’m being crushed.
The atmosphere not graced by Junko’s attention grew oppressive and constrictive. Like the world was shriveling into itself. Matsuda found himself gripping the front of his shirt, where his heart kept on hammering. His vision blurs.
His heart pounds. It’s as if the very world is pulsing. Shaky and unsteady, it was as if the very fabric of space was at risk of unraveling completely, and the sensations of a throbbing world were painful, as if the very ends of his fingertips were being burned. He felt dizzy. Disoriented. Like his head was being slowly crushed by an unforgiving grip.
“Mm? Matsuda-kun?”
He doesn’t snap out of it because of Junko’s voice, but because of her sand-caked hands cupping his face. The texture is as grainy as the temperature is warm, and Matsuda blinks at her blearily. When his vision begins to focus, he can tell her expression is mildly amused. The way her thumbs brush over his cheeks and lips is undeniably fond. He can taste salt. He shivers.
In that moment, Junko could’ve molded him as easily as she had the wet sand.
This cold realization had him rooted in place. Silent as she pressed her forehead to his, and cooed, her cool breath fanning over his face.
If the world is Junko’s castle, then I...
He doesn’t know what he is. All he can hope is that it’s important.
“There, there, Matsuda-kun,” she murmurs, sweet and lilting. She pulls him closer, presses herself to him as if with the intent of imprinting her very being onto his own. “It’s okay, it’s okay.”
It didn’t feel okay, but it’s not like he had any intention of living any other way.
Misa and Matsuda Appreciation Rant
Everyone’s changing their opinion on Misa recently. Talking about how she has gone through so much, and is much smarter than she is given credit for.
It’s true.
She managed to blackmail and threaten Light into being her boyfriend, and coax out Higuchi’s confession of being Kira with little to no effort. Misa is also a great actress, model, and has many fans. Despite leaving traces of evidence here or there, Misa was untraceable in her video tapes to Sakura TV, and managed to find Light before he found her. That’s simply remarkable.
Despite her parents being murdered at an early age, she stayed smiling and happy, so much so she was able to maintain a career as a model and an actress, and always have the optimistic, positive demeanor we see on her during Death Note. When given the Death Note, she did not use it for her own selfish gain, but instead to help Kira’s cause. Unfaltering and bold, she knows what she wants, and she knows how to get it. We may call Misa dumb, but in reality, can we really judge her when not only has she been through so much, but we ourselves may have not even pulled it off any better?
And on that note, we can also talk about our dearest cinnamon roll, Matsuda.
Touta is like a less annoying version of Misa. Throughout his time on the Task Force, he remained faithful and smiling despite everything, with the threat of death constantly looming over his head and his self-esteem being battered all the time by everyone around him.
Not the brightest or the most aware of the bunch, Matsuda still worked his way into the National Police Agency, even gaining a seat beside his well-respected Chief during an Interpol meeting. He would’ve had to work so much harder than everyone to get himself there.
During the Yotsuba Arc, Matsu took many risks, but it was his risk-taking that, in the end, alongside Misa, brought Higuchi down. Like Misa, they can both be unseeming in their appearance, attitude, and the way they go about things, but they’ve all got tricks and hard work and many obstacles overcame up their sleeves.
And let us not forget, Matsuda was quite close to Light, to the point where Light can be called Matsu’s close friend, if not best friend. Matsuda and Ide can be seen discussing this some time after the Kira case ended in a car.
Matsuda SHOT his best friend, and that shot condemned him. Light died. Kira was dead. Matsuda took down Kira in the end. He had to cope with the fact that he was lied to, that the person he trusted and worked for was their foe all along, that his respected chief Soichiro died for nothing, and L and Ukita and all the rest died for nothing because he and Aizawa and Mogi didn’t believe L.
Even if it wasn’t his fault, humans are inclined to blame themselves for things such as this. Imagine what grief and agony Matsuda must’ve faced, as a more sensitive and caring soul than the others, the one who actually opened up to the others to provide comic relief in the most solemn moments.
Matsuda kept a smile on his face for the rest of his detective carrier, a picture of Light always in his wallet, and smiled on through the rest of his life. He kept his optimism and sunny attitude throughout the whole series and beyond. All the way to his deathbed, he smiled for the others and shouldered his pain alone.
I don’t know about you, but I think that’s incredibly valuable.
(I may have gotten some things wrong, please do correct me if that is so.)
