Just an ordinary plant.

My master thesis are about GMO and how no one really knows how it works. I don´t try to tell you if it is or isn´t ok. What I am telling that it´s too big of topic to answer it in simple manner.

Here is the accompanying text: As every other plant we´ve seen in our lives, this also looks ordinary. Of course, it´s dry and slightly heinous but that´s not bad. It´s natural, as mutation are natural - height, width, number of flowers. It´s not unnatural.

What could be unnatural is unseen to us. We don't see a plant's defense mechanism enhanced by a gene from another plant, we don't see higher nutritional values, and we don't even see a difference from an ordinary plant. It's there, we just don't have to care about it.

What we might be interested in is the method of cultivation. This can indirectly harm us, slowly, but it can. In other words, not only what we eat has an impact on our health, but also where we live and what lives with us.

So it is tempting to attribute the death of beneficial insects to one type of cultivation, but it is not that simple and if we lose some plants or some animals due to some cultivation, it is a problem.

Inserting a genome from a plant into another plant, so that the second plant has some characteristic of the first, was supposed to be the solution. Although unrealistic for many, it is a fact.

We don't know much about it, those who should know about it know enough to know what to do. Maybe they want to do it in a way that doesn't hurt anyone or maybe they don't know what to do that well either, it's even possible that they know what to do, it just takes time and no one can wait forever for the perfect plant. Nothing ideal was born without mistakes.

Is there even a correct answer to the question of whether this extraordinarily ordinary plant enriched with a genome is safer or whether it is our salvation?

Since I'm the one with the history... obsession, my part in this masterthesis helping-issue is reconstructing how racism developed over the years. It's easy as far as the earlier centuries are the topic. Linking Antiquity and christianism, then christianism and islam, followed up by colonialism linked with christianism (which is a mess in itself), then colonialism linked with bullshit science based on christianism...to outright fascism. I probably learned more about the state of this world than I would have liked. However,... everything after WW2 is a feckin chaotic mess. I know little about what happened after WW2 in general because it never really interested me. My field of expertise ends there, and starts again somewhere around 2000 (because I do live now). Anyway I got books. 6 books. One is published by Antifa. I cannot use this for scientific research, obviously, but it's one point of view I just cannot push aside. 5 are about Neonazis in both West and East Germany, tackling exactly those years of "Reprocessing the past" that never gets spoken about. Because "Reprocessing the past" is a tad bit difficult to uphold when you invite laborers into your country and suddenly young people go apeshit and start attacking, hurting and killing said laborers with the same justifaction they adopted from their parents.

Het 'probleem van het goede' en goddelijke almacht

Het meest overtuigende argument tegen het bestaan van God, is volgens mij 'het probleem van het kwaad'. De eenvoudigste manier waarop ik dit probleem kan verwoorden is de volgende:

Als er een god is, waarom is er dan zoveel lijden en kwaad?

Om deze kritisch vraag kracht bij te zetten, verwijst men soms naar extreem leed, zoals genocide, baby's die sterven, wilde dieren die elkaar op gruwelijke wijze verscheuren, verkrachting, ... Voor veel atheïsten is het duidelijk: in een wereld met zoveel zinloos leed, kan er simpelweg geen god zijn. Die god zou immers moeten ingrijpen om het (zinloze) leed weg te nemen.

Volgens mij is de meest geloofwaardige theïstische reactie hierop de stelling dat God wel oneindig liefhebbend is, maar niet oneindig machtig in de letterlijke zin van dat woord. God is dan in de eerste plaats oneindig liefhebbend, de oorzaak van alles wat goed en liefdevol is. Hij is als het ware almachtig in Zijn oneindige liefde. Dit is de theologie die door Thomas Jay Oord verkend wordt in zijn boek The Death of Omnipotence and the Birth of Amipotence.

Nu we dit besproken hebben, kan het probleem van het lijden omgekeerd worden naar het 'probleem van het goede'. Dit is dan de volgende vraag:

Als er geen god is, waarom is er dan toch zoveel liefde, goedheid en plezier?

Deze vraag werd ook al gesteld in de masterthesis van Bruce Leroy Davis. Een atheïst zou kunnen stellen dat er natuurlijke, niet-goddelijke oorzaken zijn van het goede. Het bestaat zonder reden. Wie in God gelooft, kan dan weer stellen dat God het goede en liefdevolle in de wereld veroorzaakt, want God is liefde.

Wat is er dan meer overtuigend: dat het goede bestaat zonder reden, of dat we het goede aan God te danken hebben? Welk antwoord iemand kiest, zal wellicht gelijkaardig zijn aan iemands keuze van antwoord op de vraag waarom het universum ontstaan is: zonder reden, of door God?

Het antwoord dat iemand kiest, hangt af van verschillende zaken, waaronder temperament. Maar de uitleg dat er Iemand (God) de oorzaak is van alles, lijkt mij toch geloofwaardiger dan de stelling dat alles uit niets kwam zonder reden.

"A Vertical walk through the city"

Arles' city center, evolving into an open-air museum due to fifties urban planning, requires rehabilitation to play a proactive role in the world of today and tomorrow. My thesis proposes a spatial intervention at Les Nouvelles Galeries, emphasizing the active role of material heritage in mediating the needs of les Arlésiens and sustainable tourism within a global context. Revaluing existing structures ensures continuity and enting on the core memory of the city fabric while accommodating contemporary aspects and space for new developments.

The project fosters a dynamic connection between the city center and local neighborhoods, leveraging vertical interactions within the existing building for layered significance and reinforcing horizontal interfaces. This contemporary urban hub, a mental landmark, propels Arles towards a dynamic future.
