Any guesses on the gods for the eight divine bodies?

No. We have the whole Japan pantheon out of options, only one slot filled, and nothing to narrow it down. The best thing I can do is shoot down wrong options.

Starting with the option that has a chance of being right. Maouson as the god worshipped by the Myourenjis. The statement is that 8 Divine Bodies survived as of 2007 (7 after Adventures ruins Oonamuchi's) and Myourenjis are dead as of 2015. We have no numbers on when Pepe killed his family, but I think that in the likely chance that the massacre happened before 2007, I think they would still be counted as one of the surviving 8 in Adventures because they're a secluded mountain community and Pepe doesn't go around telling anyone that they're dead.

Now for the gods that certainly aren't on the list. Isemi Shiziru from Fragments uses a mixture of Western Magecraft and modern science because the Isemi family no longer enjoys Arahabaki's grace. Proto Fragments is set in 1991, so if they already lost Arahabaki's Divine Body at this point, Arahabaki can't be counted as one of 2007's surviving eight.

And the other popular theory is that since the Ryougi had a Shinto branch, the other 3 Demon Hunter families also did. But that doesn't fit their known history.

The Nanayas are described as the ones who suffered the most with the changing times because they were the only ones who didn't branch to anything other than getting rid of fiends, so zero chance of a Nanaya god.

The Asagamis domesticated and bred with the kishin they captured to serve as their guardian deities, but they're definitely out of business since Fujino wasn't taught anything about magecraft in her childhood.

The Truth about the Phenomenon of Elliotian Apparitions Around the World

WARNING: This study is of a Historiographical nature. The Tezcas (Sons of Tezcatlipoca) must use this as a basis for the history of our father's manifestations and not as a means of supporting or inciting uncontrolled violence.

I have also made clear the deceitful and bloodthirsty nature of Father Tezcatlipoca, through the fact that he manipulates men into believing in apparitions of supposedly "spiritual" figures, in order to deceive them for his own pleasure. And this is exactly what is happening to such people. Such visualizations are made by him for two purposes:

To demonstrate the reality of the fact that Elliot was a murderous form of him.

To deceive those who have such visualizations, making them emotionally attached and dependent on him in this form, for the formation of their spirituality and perception of the world.

In the end, this only shows that the form it took in 1991 continues to be useful, in its designs for control and manipulation.

HBO Max New Releases: September 2021

The summer movie season may be winding down, but HBO Max is keeping the movie ball rolling in September 2021. HBO Max’s list of new releases this month is heavy on the film side of things – both in library and original offerings.

Two Warner Bros. films of note arrive this month. The James Wan-directed horror tale Malignant premieres on Sept. 10 and is followed by Clint Eastwood’s Cry Macho on Sept. 17. The next installment in Adventure Time: Distant Lands (which is kind of like a film series!) is titled Wizard City and opens the month on Sept. 2

Of course, it wouldn’t be a new month of HBO Max releases without some interesting evergreen Warner movie titles. Sept. 1 finds all eight Harry Potter movies returning to WarnerMedia’s streaming service. They will be accompanied by The Goonies, The Evil Dead, Cloverfield, and more. Later on in the month, Mortal Kombat (Sept. 9), Mad Max: Fury Road (Sept. 9), and Promising Young Woman (Sept. 25) all come back to the streaming world.

On the TV side of things, HBO Max is bringing back DC’s strangest heroes for season 3 of Doom Patrol on Sept. 23. And for those who need their true crime fix, The Way Down should fit the bill. This docuseries about a weight loss cult is timely for reasons you’ll definitely want to Google.

It depicts the male masquerades, overlaid with female textiles and clothing. In recent years, the women have taken to making their own masks - and this artwork almost predicted this development. 

African languages are tonal - eg. for the word “Ngoma”, when it is said in different tones it means:  (1) song, dance, rhythm (2) divine energy  (3) I thirst (4) by the grace of my mother 

Apartheid:

Stellenbosch University was the epitome of education for the people who invented apartheid - it was the heart of the apartheid regime, and the student population was fully white. Today, there are about 40% of students who are African, and they have moved to using English as a language of teaching instead of Afrikaans.

Apartheid is an Afrikaans word - that represents being apart, or separated. It was a policy created by the Nationalist party. Blacks were indigenous to the land and formed 87% of the population, while whites formed 13%. However, the whites operated 87% of the land (the most arable land). Blacks and whites were not meant to intermarry, blacks had to pay for their education whilst whites didn’t.

Skeef learnt how to use languages to get by, eg. to distract the shopkeeper while “re-possessing” objects from shops or distracting security while getting rid of banned literature from vehicles (while travelling in the getaway car with Steve Biko, political activist). Afrikaans was the language of the oppressor, so it was a benefit if African people could speak it too, aside from their own languages.

History: 

Student protests took place in 1976 - against the use of Afrikaans. The apartheid police intervened and around 179 people were killed - this incident was made famous by a photo of 14-year-old Hector Peterson (who took the first bullet and passed away) being held in his mother’s arms on 16 June 1976. 

A year later, on 12 September 1977, political activist leader Steve Biko was arrested and brutalised to death. This, coupled with the Soweto Massacre led to the birth of Resistance Art. Steve Biko wrote a book called I Write What I Like and was the leader of the Black Consciousness Movement, which politicised and made students aware of the need to fight segregation. 

Artwork and the exhibition: 

In 2001, the Africa galleries were opened in the British museum showing four contemporary African artists. Today, there are 20+ artists. And for the South Africa: The Art of a Nation exhibition, a contemporary artist comments on each section that the exhibition is split into.

Makapansgat Pebble of Many Faces, c. 3,000,000 BP

It seemed to have been naturally formed, and created by water currents - that formed imprints which look like faces. It represents the first idea of symbolic thought. In the exhibition, it is displayed against a mirror, such that viewers can see both the front and back faces of the pebble.

Rock painting done by dependents of the San| people. Street art and graffiti art can be said to be the descendants of rock art. 

Blombos Cave Beads

These shell beads were discovered in the Blombos Cave in 2002, and were formed around 78,000 years ago. 

Karel Nel - Potent Fields (2002) 

The use of red and white ochre symbolises the link between humans and the spiritual world, with the white representing the spiritual and red humans. The ochre was gathered in the ancestral lands of Nelson Mandela. It also references the colour divide in Africa. 

Eugene Skeef designed the fist which represented black power and served as a symbol of unity. 

Owen Ndou - Oxford Man (1992) 

A tribute to Nelson Mandela, taking South Africa to the new democratic elections. He carries the ‘world’ in his hands, represented by the Oxford dictionary. 

Mapungubwe sculptures (AD 1250 - 90)

These were found in the North of the country. The gold foil figures, discovered in royal graves at Mapungubwe, were actually found in the 1930s but were denied, hidden and marginalised by the apartheid government because it contradicted its racist narrative of terra nullius, the myth of an empty land, which was used to legitimise white rule. The objects testify to the sophisticated, settled society which traded gold and ivory with China, India and Egypt many centuries before settlers from Europe arrived.

Esther Mahlangu - BMW Art Car 525i Number 12 (1991) 

Part of a series started by BMW and painted with a chicken feather. She coated the bodywork of the car with the bright colors and clearly distinguishable ornamental shapes typical of her ethnic tribal Ndebele art. 

Zulu beadwork was put onto European waistcoats and other articles of clothing as an assertion of national identity. This is made of glass and wool, and is thought to have been created before 1987. 

Zulu milk vessels were painted by men to represent women. Some come with different scarifications on the body. 

Santu Mofokeng - The Black Photo Album/Look at Me

For this book Santu Mofokeng collected private photographs which urban black working and middle-class families in South Africa commissioned between 1890 and 1950, a time when the government was creating policies towards thosedesignated as “natives”. Painterly in style, the images evoke the artifices of Victorian photography. In this work Mofokeng analyses the sensibilities, aspirations and self-image of the black population and its desire for representation and social recognition in times of colonial rule and suppression.

Gerard Sekoto - Song of the Pick (1946)

Early example of resistance art. The nine men carrying pickaxes represents the nine languages in Africa. 

Zapiro (Jonathan Shapiro) - UDF Calendar

He created a calendar that depicted the United Democratic Front (UDF), and in the centre it shows a policeman spraying a fellow officer with purple dye - which is what police used to spray protestors with in order to identify them for arrest later - known as “Purple Rain”. 

Mary Sibande - A Reversed Retrogress: Scene 1 (2013)

Two figures - the blue figure Sophie represents her mother/grandmother, who both worked as maids in white households, and the work releases them into their dreams of freedom. The purple figure represents herself, and also the Purple Rain protest which signified the end of apartheid. There are also cloth creatures in the background which represent ideas that have not yet formed.

So, I know damn near everybody slept on "Massacre Divine" upon release, and probably to this day, but it has grown on me over the years for non-ironic reasons, and I'll always have Cal's back and the band's in general no matter what. I'm a super-fan!
