i think something that elevates the hunger games franchise is not just the quality of writing but the integrity of it. tbosas isn’t just a cash-grab by suzanne collins in the age of sequels and reboots (though i won’t pretend that didn’t play a part), it’s a character study of the main antagonist with a different structure than the main trilogy. and importantly, it doesn’t just re-hash the same old themes and beats the main trilogy had, it expands on not just the world of the hunger games but the themes as well, it actually has something new to say about the trilogy’s themes about class, capitalism, power, and control, in a way that couldn’t be explored with the main story because the protagonist of that story simply did not have access to the world that’s being explored in tbosas.
i understand the people who call for books/movies to be made about haymitch, finnick, johanna, different years of the games — we love those characters and want to see more of them! i’d kill for a novella on finnick’s days mentoring tributes, or katniss’s parents falling in love. but at the end of the day we probably wouldn’t be very satisfied with those stories being fleshed out if they had absolutely nothing new to say about the world, they’d be enjoyable, but not as interesting and engaging as tbosas has been.

Tips for wall construction for sound isolation in a home studio
When I first shifted into my house, I got exhilarated and called the guys to come and have a practice session in the basement. Previously I used to live in a condo, so practicing there would be impossible or rather not enjoyable. The basement of the house had almost 4 feet of ground surrounding it, and the upper part was a regular wall with windows in it. Hence I started using drywall isolation hangers to isolate noise.
As soon as we started, my neighbor informed me that he could hear the loud noise at his house almost 300 feet away. Being disappointed, we stopped. The sound was directly going out of the thin glass windows and there was nothing I could do until I made some big changes just like the mason industries.
I thought about building noise control walls in the room, but that may be overkill for what I was looking for. I was not concerned about noise passing into the rest of the house and just outside. I decided to build a wall closing off the back part of the basement, and treat that as much as I can do to prevent the noise.

Design of bigger wall and noise control ceilings
To assist in keeping the transfer of vibration from passing through the big wall to the windows, I used a staggered stud approach. The layering is staggered, so the studs end up being almost 8 inches from each other, but the vital part is that every wall doesn’t touch the other wall. The only way vibration can pass through it is to go through the wall at the top and bottom. Noise control ceilings and floors rest on special pads and can also be used to enhance the impact.

The Janimal RETURNS
A little over 9 years ago, we stumbled across a group of indie comics artists who would meet up and draw and hang out and just share stories with each other. We were a brand new store and didn’t really know any “industry” people. In walks the Janimal with his book Time Shark (about a time-traveling shark)! A kid-friendly comic artist who is quite possibly the nicest human to ever walk the earth. We immediately fell in love with both his work and him! Shortly after, life took over and Janimal moved to Arizona and we stayed in touch but we didn’t get a chance to host him again.
Now - almost a decade later - the Janimal returns to the halls of East Side Mags!
Jan Marc “The Janimal” Quisumbing is a Jersey tomato roasting in the Arizona sun. A graduate of the Mason Gross School of the Arts, Rutgers University (NJ), he now resides in Northern Arizona with his family and 3 cats. He has exhibited at comic conventions from Phoenix Fan Fusion to New York Comic Con and serves as the acting president of the Northern Arizona Cartoonist Association (NAZCA). His fun and cartoony style has a great retro feel and translates easily to the drawing demo classes that have been a staple at Verde Valley libraries and LibCons over the past nine years. He currently works at a library in Northern Arizona as its Program and Marketing Coordinator.

Neon Demon-
So, I was actually torn on writing a review for neon demon. Before I hop into anything too serious, I would like to take time to appreciate seeing my girl Johanna Mason. (I do not care she has a real name she will always be Johanna axe throwing Mason). From the foreshadowing in the opening scene I was hooked. We open to a doe eyed, supple, and pristine Elle Fanning dripping in what you could believe to be blood. She is trying her luck on a path a lot of young people know all too well. We later find out she is an underaged orphan living alone in a cheap LA motel. The perfect victim. Her only crime having access to everything they all wanted. She is young, beautiful, tall, innocent and searching for a place to belong. All things Hollywood feeds on. I also liked how they explored how men treat other men who treat women with respect. Also, the way in which they discuss women as objects and commodities. Oh, trigger warning there is a bit of sexual misconduct involved. I did enjoy the way they filmed this project, making it feel very cold, corporate and callous. Almost as if everyone involved had just gotten a fresh lobotomy. Every choice felt very succinct. Despite all of this though, they still fell flat in the ending. About halfway through you see they had this great concept they had no idea how to execute. You know something sinister is going to o take place, but even once they follow through on that plot line you are left thinking, “is that all?” So overall I am giving them a 7/10 mostly because I did like the idea and I m a Fanning Fanatic.

This made me laugh SO HARD. This guy is just a fairly minor background character, he's just an extra private detective (see, he's got the coat to prove it!) hanging around a bus stop reading the paper inconspicuously. But the paper is 100% a prop that was used as one of the scene wipes a few episodes prior.
I love when props departments do this! I love re-using little things like this in order to maintain the world of the show and to not introduce outside news outlets. It just tickles me.
