One word prompt: glasses

The eerily still being was the tallest one he'd seen yet. If seeing one that looked like the Boss with glasses was unsettling, seeing this one with bright polka dots in all the colors of the rainbow conquering his suit was even more so. This one wore a top hat, and currently had his back to him; but those same thin, black tendrils were jutting out of his back. The only difference was the golden bells on their ends, which rang out periodically with the movement of the appendages.

Masky remembered Toby telling them that Boss had brothers, plural, but somehow he still hadn't been expecting to meet another one...and so soon after they met the first. He'd come out to see Sally and bring her a new toy – a bright red yoyo with glitter and LED lights in it – but stopped in his tracks at the sight of the newcomer. The proxy knew the being went by Splendorman, and what he'd heard about the entity being friendly toward children was clearly accurate. He kept his distance while he watched Sally play with the group of other dead children that Splendorman seemed to have brought with him.

It was nice, seeing her laughing and playing like an ordinary child. He cracked a small smile under his mask, but didn't dare approach. Rumor had it that Splendorman was naturally passive and friendly, but was prone to violent murderous rages that made even their Boss uneasy when he felt the need to protect a child. The last thing Masky wanted was to confirm that rumor the hard way by accidentally frightening one of the being's current charges. He took his eyes off Sally for a moment and noticed with a slight pang of panic that Splendorman was no longer standing in the clearing. Oh no.

Before his thoughts could go further, he heard the gentle ringing of a small bell right next to his ear. He turned slowly to find his face inches from one that looked like it was painted on...

"You actually screamed?" Hoodie chuckled as Masky's cheeks tinted slightly pink from embarrassment.

"I didn't know what to expect – it was a gut reflex," he mumbled.

"Well, I sincerely apologize for startling you," Splendorman had said this to Masky several times since the incident, but his tone was no less genuine than it had been the first time he said it. Masky had come to know that the taller being was definitely loathe to upsetting others, and he was sure he'd get over it long before Splendorman did.

"It's alright – I just didn't know who you were back then," the proxy reassured him. Truth be told, Splendorman was the only Splendor that Masky actually felt comfortable around. Outside of that little misunderstanding the first time they met, the entity had never been anything but outright friendly to him.

"One of these days I'll finally tell you about when I first met Jingle Bells here," Hoodie shook his head with a grin at the memory only he could see and Splendorman shook a couple of his bells merrily in response to the random but apt nickname. Masky looked out toward the horizon; it had been a long time since he last saw the ocean.

The waves whispered their soothing lullaby as they seized the wind's coattails to pull them to the shore. The beach was made up of stones rather than sand, and little shells and pieces of sea glass could be found among them if one were to look closely. The sun painted the cloudless sky in magentas and tangerines and violets as it began its nightly descent into inky depths where the sea split from the sky. Nobody else was anywhere nearby on this abandoned dock, it was just the three of them. It was a calm, serene setting; despite everything, Masky found himself relaxing in the peaceful atmosphere.

"I wonder what's keeping Toby?" Hoodie mused. The youngest proxy had wandered off roughly an hour prior after stating rather cryptically that he 'had some business to attend to'. Their assignment would be starting at twilight, which was coming soon.

"Who knows? Maybe the stock market crashed and he's having a crisis." Masky shrugged as he put a cigarette between his lips and felt around his pocket for a lighter. Hoodie snorted at that. Masky lit his smoke and turned to ask Splendorman a question, but the entity was no longer standing with them.

"Maybe he's on his way to bail out Toby on Wall Street." Hoodie joked. Masky shook his head and took a long drag.

"If Toby's ever gonna need bailed out of anywhere, it's prison...and I don't think there's one of those around here for miles." Masky exhaled a cloud of grey smoke as he spoke.

"He's a resourceful kid, I'm sure he'll find a way." Hoodie chuckled again, and Masky did, too. Then the conversation died away, and the only sounds that tainted the salty breeze were the crashing of the waves and the occasional screech of a seagull. The pair waited patiently for Toby to return while the light steadily disappeared into the water.

Only the full moon lit the landscape now, and Masky was starting to get concerned. He shared a glance with Hoodie, confirming that he, too was worried about Toby. The kid had his issues, but he was never late.

"He went this way earlier. We've gotta run into him at some point," Hoodie gestured toward the trees with one hand and pulled his mask down with the other. Masky nodded and pulled his own disguise over his face as they headed out to search. They had only walked a few feet into the woods when they heard movement in the foliage. They both looked up to see their missing companion sitting in the tree above them.

"Where are you going?" He called down to them. Hoodie sighed heavily and facepalmed.

"We are going to handle the assignment. Are you going to join us, or keep being a nuisance?" Masky replied.

"I prefer the term 'm-menace', actually." Toby climbed down quickly and landed on his feet with a dull thud. He seemed mildly surprised at their irritation with him, as they usually weren't genuinely upset by his obnoxious behaviors. The sun seemed to have taken their sense of humor with it, and now the two were consumed with silent determination to complete their task.

"Did you bring everything?" Hoodie asked.

"I s-set it all up while I w-was out." Toby replied flatly. Hoodie gave a quick nod and started walking, and the other two followed suit. Even if they were successful in their endeavor, it was going to be a long night – and they all knew it.

It sucks that you took down your Ticcimask blog, I used to really enjoy checking out the stuff on there and I'm gonna miss it, tho I respect your reasoning for why you took it down. If you don't mind me asking, how are your feelings for the ship itself? Are you still into Ticcimask or are you not into the ship anymore either?

Oh fuck yeah dude I still love ticcimask! I’m kinda upset about the “controversy” behind it even though there shouldn’t really be one considering Toby has always been depicted as an adult since his story essentially works as an origin story and K*stoway has since then been drawing Toby 2 years after the events.

It’s like Spideypool in that sense where a lot of iterations of Spider-Man in the comics has him as an adult, and he’s practically always an adult when interacting with Deadpool, but then some people think the ship is gross cause the only iteration they either know or care about is the MCU where Peter is like 15. Obviously don’t ship Deadpool with MCU Peter, but don’t hound every Spideypool fan out there cause good chance their Peter is an adult like in the comics.

The fandom only focuses on the Toby from his story and not the Toby K*stoway has constantly drawn who’s 19, an adult. And like Peter in the comics, Toby has been depicted as an adult whenever he’s interacted with Tim.
