One of these days I'll make a proper post about how this show, Alan Ball's Here and Now, was one of the greatest shows that never really were, how brilliantly genre defying it proved to be, and how ahead of its time it was. The fact that barely anyone even ever gave it a chance is still such a major bummer, even six years after it was cancelled. And now it's even fallen victim to that asshole David Zaslav's delete-it-from-existence tax breaks. Ugh.

The Story... Conservative radio personality Rick Egan (Tracy Letts) lost his platform in the wake of 9/11 for spreading xenophobic rumors surrounding a group of missing Muslim teenagers. This sends Rick on a quest for vindication as he follows a trail of unfathomable events. He is left face to face with the true culprit…The Blank (Taran Killam), a faceless sound parasite that thrives on the air of hatred. What happened on the second day of Ramadan throughout history?
On the second day of Ramadan throughout history, the Umayyads began building the city of Kairouan, Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan became the Umayyad caliph, the Battle of Tours was fought and sociologist Ibn Khaldun was born.
According to heritage researcher Wassim Afifi, the year 50 Hijri was the most important in Africa’s history as this is when Africa entered its strong era with Uqba ibn Nafi.
The city of Kairouan was built in 50 Hijri. Uqba knew that the only way to maintain Africa and spread Islam was to establish a city where Muslims can be stationed. He thus founded Kairouan and built a mosque.
Afifi said on the second day of Ramadan in 65 Hijri, Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan became caliph of the Umayyads. His era marked the end of strife which the Islamic state had suffered from.
Abd al-Malik ibn Marwan was born in 26 Hijri and he was raised and educated in Medina. He later moved to Damascus and studied religion.
He issued the first Islamic currency and this was a major economic step that liberated the Islamic state’s economy from dependence on foreign currencies.
Also on the second day of Ramadan, the Battle of Tours was fought. The battle marked the worst defeat in the history of Islam in Andalusia as it cost Muslims a lot and led to the death of Abdul Rahman Al Ghafiqi.
The battle was between Frankish and Burgundian forces led by Charles Martel and an army of the Umayyad Caliphate led by Ghafiqi, Governor-General of al-Andalus, and it was fought in an area between the French cities of Poitiers and Tours.
Also on the second day of Ramadan, Ibn Khaldun was born in Tunisia in 732 Hijri.
He studied Arabic linguistics and the Quran which he memorized by heart. He also studied fiqh (jurisprudence) and logic and philosophy.
After serving African rulers for years, Ibn Khaldun went to Granada in Andalusia but following plots against him he returned to Africa and stayed in the town of Qalat Ibn Salama in Algeria. This is where he began writing his famous book the Book of Lessons in which he presented new theories in sociology and history.
Ibn Khaldun passed away in Egypt in 808 Hijri at 78 years old and he was buried in the Sufis’ graveyard in Bab al-Nasr in north Cairo.

Why did Bo breakup with Chester?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This was such a chaotic season finale and there was A LOT to unpack, but lets discuss the Chester and Bo breakup...What the hell happened there?!?
I thought the writers would give us insights as to what transpired at the pre V-day party, but they never did. And Bo never gave a clear answer as to why he wanted to end the relationship with Chester. So here I am trying to decipher it on my own.
I don't believe the breakup has anything to do with Chester's boisterous ways because I'm pretty sure Bo knew exactly what type of personality he was getting himself involved with...Chester never hid that from him. And I don't believe the whole fake relationship with Nathan played a major part in it either. I think this was mostly driven by Bo's own insecurities within their dynamic. He never came around to understanding or accepting why Chester would choose to be with a person like him, who's ultimately his polar opposite...and the signs of these doubts have been there all along. Like during episode 15 when they went on the vday date, some of the 1st questions he asked Chester during the truth telling game were "Do you think I'm a little basic?" "Do you think I'm a good kisser?" "Did you go to the bathroom to check your phone?"...all asked in very cheeky flirty ways, but these are serious questions that bring to light those clear signs of his insecurities. But I don't believe that's Chester's fault....I dont believe he ever made him feel less than. In fact Chester gave his all to Bo and this relationship and perhaps that was too much for Bo to handle.
But what was the breaking point? Why end the ship so abruptly, when things were seemingly going fine? Well this brings me back to the walking chaos that is Megan and the small conversation she had with Bo at the pre party. Megan's passive aggressive words were quite triggering for Bo. I think it confirmed what he's been feeling this whole time about himself in this relationship and hearing the words out loud validated his fears of not being good enough for Chester. That there are other people better suited to be with Chester. And although those weren't the exact words she said, that reality check gave him the helping hand he needed to end things with Chester. This also touches on the reoccurring theme of lies and how much Bo hates them; and there he was inadvertently caught in one with Megan.
Ultimately Bo let his insecurities get the best of him. And I understand that if he didn't feel like an equal in the relationship he should've def left. I was just hoping for some closure, cuz Chester deserved at least an explanation. And if he likes him as much as he said he does, then he should've been respectful enough to give him an answer.
So let's just hope it's Bo he sees at the end of the episode..and if not Bo, Nathan. But honestly at this point it could be Sam....
