Venom: The Last Dance
This movie.
Has.
Broken me.
WARNING: CONTAINS SPOILERS. READ AT YOUR OWN RISK
I know I have a lot more backlogged movies to review in my drafts section, but I watched this movie last weekend and I am still recovering from the depression I feel from watching this movie.
The story itself and the in-between pacing, to be fair, is a little bit mellow and a little bit dragged out. I mean, I get it, we're looking at the perspective where it has only been a year (a year? Really? Only that long? I thought it felt longer) in this movie universe timeline since Eddie and Venom's relationship began, so not much extra development can be said other than the fact that they have to be on the run and the plot sorta takes place almost straight after the events of Venom 2, but come on. I thought it would've been a little bit more of an exciting adventure than just running around getting drunk, getting over hangovers, losing and acquiring shoes (which is a pretty funny gag, ngl) and just traveling and hitchhiking in the middle of the desert.
The part where Venom hitchhiked on a plane to get to NY was pretty hilarious though, and the part where Venom infects a horse to give Eddie a faster ride kinda reminds me of their bike scene in the first movie, and that was pretty epic. Them having to get away from Strickland's men and wrestling with them in the water was also pretty exciting, and I was like screaming internally for Venom to quickly reach Eddie before he drowns or dies or get caught, got my heart pumping there.
When they added Martin Moon and his hippie family into the mix, tbh, they were technically kinda an unnecessary plot device. I mean, I guess they were sorta just there to give the human element? To fill the gap that was supposed to Eddie's ex-fiance's spot that she had been occupying for the first 2 movies? Yeah, totally unnecessary. They could've just have a very short scene of him hitchhiking with Martin (or any other person for that matter) without needing to delve into their character development or building any sort of bond, and just leave it at that and not get them involved in any part of the alien battle, that would've been fine.
Also, there can be no Venom without Mrs Chen LOL Their little dance scene was maybe a little cringe, but at the same time it was just hilarious and cute at the same time
The other symbiotes were interesting and got me guessing which symbiote is which based on the colour and my limited knowledge of other symbiote characters (thanks to Wiki and Tumblr), though I couldn't remember when exactly was the part where Mulligan got infected by a symbiote, but then the story had him infused with another symbiote to save his life, which felt a little odd since I've never seen this version of a symbiote anywhere in the comics or online, and that symbiote kinda reminds me a little bit of that fish man character in The Shape of Water LOL
The Xenophage alien was pretty cool and brutal at the same time, and the symbiotes, after they merged with the humans (which included Christmas and Teddy), look really really cool. It's a shame the fight scene on that one was a little short. Could've worked in a bit more fight scenes with the other symbiotes, and Teddy/Agony moment was also kinda short, but Christmas' symbiote was pretty awesome. I have a feeling her and Mulligan's symbiote were sorta an OC of sorts coz they defo did not seem to exist in any research I've seen of the symbiote characters.
And don't tell me I didn't see the attraction between Teddy and Christmas. My gaydar for men maybe a little weak, but my gaydar for women seems pretty spot on between them.
The climax. OMG the climax. The part where Eddie and Venom agreed that as long as they're both alive, Knull would just keep sending in more Xenophages, and Venom sacrificed himself and tossed Eddie out so he can die along with the Xenophage army, and when he said "Goodbye for now" instead of "Goodbye" like in the first movie... and then this scene...
I just cried. I cried and I died and my heart was just ripped to pieces as I watch Venom just melt before my eyes. The sacrifice he made for his Eddie. The way he said "I'll never forget you" and "Don't forget me either". I cannot. I just cannot...
And the ending scene where Eddie wakes up in the military hospital and realized Venom is no longer in his head for reals, the way he said "I need him", and the way he walks through the city alone with flashbacks of him and Venom from all three movies while Maroon 5's "Memories" was playing in the background? Oh god, it just broke me into more pieces and I cried even more. I've never cried harder than I've ever cried for a ship. The last time I cried this hard is when Dreamworks killed my Toothcup ship, and now this? I'm crying even harder. I'm still crying now as I'm typing this. I will never hear this song or feel about it the same way ever again.
The only other beef/nitpick I have for this movie is that the villain Knull was kinda weak. He hardly had any role in the movie, and it was just wasted cameo by Andy Serkis in there. All he basically did was just sit there in one spot and just sent the Xenophages to do the dirty work, which any Tom-Dick-Harry villain can do. I know now that's they're sorta setting him up as an intro character like they tried to do with Kraven, so hopefully? Maybe? Knull would end up in more of the SSU verse and also maybe MCU's upcoming new Spiderman film that'll be in 2026? Hope so.
Also, why did they need to end this amazing franchise?? They have so much more potential. When they put the end credit scene in which Eddie/Venom woke up in the MCU verse, I was hoping that it would spark a nice crossover movie or two about Peter "Tom Holland" Parker would have to deal with Venom and have an adventure or two (or three, or four, I'm not complaining). Let Spidey and Venom have their hero-villain rivalry moment before Venom slowly becomes established as an anti-hero or something.
Remember one of the end credit scenes in Spiderman where Eddie and Venom gets sent back to their universe thanks to Dr Strange's spell and a small piece of Venom was left behind? I've heard rumours about maybe that would be the tie in for SSU and MCU and for Venom to return and shine, but I also know it may be that MCU wants to have their take on a Venom for Tom Holland's Spidey, but to go through all that all over again with another new backstory for Venom and another character playing Venom? No. No way. There is no one else that can be a better Venom. Tom Hardy's Venom or bust.
Anyone who stayed all the way to the end to see the end credits for Venom 3 (seriously, the credit role was way too long though), there is a hint that the tiny piece of Venom that Strickland had captured when Venom also left behind at the bar in his universe maybe free, and that there is hope that this Venom would make his way back to Eddie and they can become whole again but still, they said that this was the final installment of the SSU Venom franchise, so...
Fuck you, Sony.
You and Dreamworks have officially killed another ship of mine.
I love and hate this movie at the same time and I. AM. BAWLING.

Chapter Eighteen: The Silence
The Farmer's Daughter - (A WandaNat Story)
Masterlist . Tag list: @xenaizogie
Summary: Natasha shares more about Yelena to Wanda. A flashback reveals more about Natash's past before it's off to see the Bartons.
Word Count: 2.9K
Content: Protective Pietro, Soft Wanda, Soft Natasha, Dating, Crying, PTSD, Triggers, Love
The next day, Pietro took over the work on the farm for Natasha. The redhead was in bed with a life-changing headache that she swore up and down would make her quit drinking forever.
Pietro also told Magda and Erik that he and his friends continued the fun long after Wanda tried getting him and Natasha to leave.
It was all lies, but what the parents didn't know wouldn't hurt them.
But Pietro also knew something that Wanda didn't know that he knew. She only thought maybe he knew, but she wasn't sure.
It was turning into a very Friends-type situation.
So when Wanda came out into the field to thank him for covering for Natasha, Pietro stopped his sister. "Oh hey, Wanda." Wanda turned back and squinted at her brother in the light of the midday sun. Pietro opened and closed his mouth. He was starting to wonder if he should ever say anything, but it seemed a little too late.
"Last night was fun."
Wanda smiled and raised her hand over her eyes to block the sun. "Yeah, it was!" Pietro nodded. "Do you think Natasha had a good time?" Wanda nodded. "Oh yeah. I don't think she would've sang the hits of the 90s with T'Challa if she didn't." Wanda laughed. That was a fun moment last night.
She definitely captured way too many blurry pictures.
Pietro smiled and cleared his throat a little. "And everything's okay with her? I know the two of you went missing for a bit." Wanda stiffens, thinking maybe this is when Pietro spills the beans. "Yeah, she just needed a moment to herself." Pietro nods. "Good. Good. Well... I'm glad she has a friend like you."
Pietro decides not to say anything. As annoying as he can be or as much as he loves teasing his twin, he knows he shouldn't do it about something like this. And that if Wanda and Natasha were serious and wanted people to know, they would. When they were ready.
So when Wanda walks away, and the days of knowing the secret turn into weeks, he finds himself seeing Wanda truly happy.
In turn, he can see how good of a person someone like Natasha is for her. Pietro is glad he didn't say anything and let Wanda tell him.
You'll see.
Anyways, across the dining room table on a sunny Thursday over breakfast, Magda wonders when her daughter will share the secret, especially with her father.
"Ew, gross, people do that?" Natasha laughs at Wanda's words after telling her how her friend Maria Hill would put ketchup on her eggs. "Hot sauce I get, but- ew..."
"Yelena would put hot sauce on anything." Wanda's eyes soften as Natasha speaks of her sister. Throughout the summer, Natasha has been more open in sharing stories of her past and being honest in communicating when she needed space.
Particularly after a PTSD attack.
It had only happened one other time since the first night Wanda and Natasha slept together.
A storm had rolled through while Natasha, Wanda, and Pietro were picking up supplies for a barbecue Erik wanted to co-host with a neighbor of theirs. Everything was fine until the drive back, when the rain sounded like golf balls, and Natasha could barely see the road.
Wanda and Pietro were bickering about an old classmate of theirs when Wanda's SUV severed on the wet road.
It took one second for Natasha to mistake a plastic grocery bag for an IED. They almost hit an oncoming car.
But luckily, Natasha was able to yank the wheel back.
Pietro had no idea what had happened, especially when the car came to a grinding halt on the side of the road. One moment, Pietro, from the backseat, contemplated pulling Wanda's hair because she was right and annoying. The next moment, Natasha threw herself out of the front seat, leaving the door open to catch the harsh rain falling. The car was parked but running.
Silence surrounded the twins as they watched Natasha begin to walk away until she fell to her knees in the tall grass.
Wanda immediately broke out of her trance and unbuckled her seat belt. "Stay in the car!" She shouted before she, too, exited the car. Pietro was stunned as the passenger side door slammed closed.
"Natasha!" Wanda yelled over the loud storm as she approached her gir- Natasha. Natasha didn't move. She stared blankly at the ground. Her body already exhaisted from her attack. "Natasha." Wanda crouched down and almost touched her shoulder before pulling it back. Wanda couldn't tell if Natasha was crying or not due to the rain, but her eyes were redder than they were minutes ago.
"Nat..." Wanda tried again, and this time, it worked. Natasha sniffled. "I'm sorry," Natasha said, her voice broken but without moving her eyes from the muddy ground. "Hey, don't apologize-"
"I almost hit a car, Wanda!" Natasha exhaled and lifted her tired eyes to Wanda. A frown present. They stared at one another. Natasha's eyes were beautiful all the time. But the green color was faded after moments like this. "Wh-what if you would've gotten hurt.." Natasha said as the rest of her words got stuck in her throat.
It would be a lie if Natasha said she hadn't thought about what would happen if Wanda got hurt during an attack.
Wanda's mouth dropped slowly as she let out a breath. "Natasha..." Wanda's accent thicker as she grew hurt for her Natasha. "It wouldn't have been your fault."
Natasha, of course, didn't believe her. All she cared about was the fact that Wanda was indeed safe.
"Can... can I touch you?" Wanda gently asked, pulling Natasha's focus on her. She nodded. Natasha loved the care Wanda would always show, especially after something like this. Wanda didn't blame the older woman or force herself into the situation.
Natasha appreciated and fell for her more and more every day.
What Natasha didn't know was all the research Wanda did after Natasha's first PTSD attack. She hated seeing Natasha in that state and not knowing what to do. That's part of the reason it scared her so much.
Wanda lifted her hands to Natasha's face and pulled her close. "You're stronger than you know, Dorogaya." Wanda used Natasha's own pet name against her with a tiny laugh that grew once Natasha's lips spilt upwards.
Wanda loved seeing that smile and pulled Natasha the remaining distance until their lips brushed against each other into a kiss that said so much more.
Pietro with his eyes wide turned his head to the interior of the car.
When the two pulled apart, Natasha couldn't help but wrap her arms around Wanda. She needed this. Wanda was over the moon and closed her eyes as the rain continued to pelt them.
"What?!" Wanda asked loudly as she lifted her face off of Natasha's shoulder. The redhead looked at her. "What?" Natasha asked after clearing her throat, looking lost. Wanda opened and closed her mouth. "I- I thought you said something?" She looked at Natasha expecting a yes, but Natasha just shook her head with a convincing look. "No. But we should probably get back to the car. We'll get sick."
After seconds passed, Wanda looked at the redhead and nodded before lifting herself up and helping Natasha. Both of their outfits were ruined and soaked, but it didn't matter when Natasha and Wanda walked back to the SUV hand in hand.
Safe.
"Okay- did you say something?" Wanda asked Natasha as they stopped in front of the headlights. "No. What did you hear?" Natasha looked as if she was getting concerned for Wanda and her hearing.
"Nothing," Wanda said as she turned her head and went wide-eyed.
She forgot her brother was there.
Wanda turned back to Natasha, making her voice gentle. "Can I drive?" Natasha nodded. She knew she shouldn't drive anyways. "And don't apologize again," Wanda said before squeezing her hand and letting it go as they walked to the driver's side of the car. Wanda getting in the front seat. Natasha behind her in the back.
"Pietro up front," Wanda commanded of her brother, who looked from Natasha in her state to Wanda and nodded. Wanda also used a tone that scared Pietro.
Once Pietro shut the door, Wanda turned to him after cranking up the heat in the car. "If you tell Mama and Papa about anything you saw today, I swear I will make your life hell and tell them about you, Crystal, and the party at Bobby Drake's junior year of high school."
Pietro gulped.
Let's just say the party ended with a flooding of the basement, cops showing up, and Wanda having to help her brother pay thousands of dollars.
Siblings, ya know?
"I promise I won't say anything," Pietro said to his sister before looking at Natasha. "I promise." Natasha returned a nod while Wanda looked at her bother sternly before calming her stare. "Thank you." Wanda exhaled and put on her seatbelt. "Besides..." Pietro's words catching her interest. "I saw you guys kiss at Karaoke night."
Natasha couldn't do anything but smirk and let out a minuscule laugh. Of course, he did. Wanda did the same and looked at her brother with a smile. "Thank you, Pietro." He smiled back. "You're scary when you're serious." He turned his head back to Natasha. "Or is she always like this?"
That earned him a slap on the arm that would hurt the remainder of the drive back.
He huffed and sat back against the seat. Natasha moved her eyes from Pietro to Wanda's eyes in the rearview mirror.
Natasha had said something when they held each other in the rain. She just didn't expect Wanda to hear it. Or think she heard it. But it was the truth.
Someday soon, though, she would tell her.
In the meantime... Wanda's eyes lit up as Magda laughed loudly at Natasha's impression of her sister after their mother found out Yelena had been hiding boxes of Mac and Cheese under her bed.
Across the table, Pietro gave his sister a knowing look with a smile before drinking his orange juice and the sound of a phone interrupting the morning conversations.
Natasha pulled her phone out with a guilty look. She didn't remember clicking on the sound. "Sorry." Magda shooed Natasha's apology away and let the redhead answer her phone.
Usually, Natasha would've sent it to voicemail, but the call was coming from Laura. Clint's wife. Someone who constantly texted first.
Natasha excused herself from the table and went into the kitchen. Figuring her voice wouldn't carry out of the room if this wasn't a good call.
"Laura..?" Natasha answered cautiously. "Hey, Natasha! How's it going?" Laura and her cheery voice replied back making Natasha exhale. Natasha closed her eyes and pinched her nose. "Hey- uh yeah, I'm- it's going good." She finished her setence before counting her brain not stopping. "You know you usually don't call first! You almost gave me a heart attack."
Laura laughed. She laughed!
"Oh, sorry! I didn't think about it! Umm, but listen, I just got off the phone with Clint, and he once again mentioned how you should come and visit, so this is me calling to ask you to come over. I know we've been talking about it off and on, but I am officially begging you to visit. And yeah, I know it's a bit of a trip, but it'll be nice to see."
Laura's voice became softer as the call went on. She really did miss seeing Natasha. Her husband and the redhead were close, making Natasha a family.
"So whattaya say?" Natasha leaned back against the kitchen counter and exhaled. She then looked up when the floorboard across the room creaked. Wanda was standing in the doorway with a raised eyebrow and a concerned look.
Just in case the call hadn't been a good one.
Natasha smiled and gestured to let her know it was okay. Wanda's face broke into a smile as she left the doorframe and walked closer to Natasha. Looking back behind her and ensuring the coast was clear before kissing Natasha's cheek.
The pink rose through her cheeks.
"Nat?" Laura's voice came over the call. Natasha quickly pulled Wanda closer and held the phone towards her ears as well. "Hey, sorry! Yes, I'm still here, and umm, yeah, I'd love to come over." Wanda's face lit up. "Great!" Laura's smile came over the call. "You can even bring your friend!" The suggestion was being laid on thick.
But Wanda was standing next to Natasha with a big, ole smile and wide eyes.
"I'd love to come!" Wanda said into the phone, making Laura drop the laundry basket she held at the sound of Natasha's friend's voice. "Oh well, hi!" Laura struggled to regain her train of thought. She could barely remember that last person Natasha introduced Clint and his family too.
If she even did introduce someone.
"The kids and I can't wait to host you." Laura smiled. "We can't wait either!" Wanda spoke for herself and Natasha. "When she we head on over?" Wanda said, just like it was a casual drive. Natasha smiled and shook her head slightly.
"I was thinking maybe making it like a three-day weekend?"
"This weekend?" Wanda asked. "If it works," Laura replied. Wanda looked at Natasha with her eyebrows raised. "We can make it work," Natasha replied with a smile as Wanda looked at her with bright green eyes.
Wanda leaned to kiss Natasha once again but quickly pulled back when Pietro walked into the kitchen. He noticed the two steps Wanda took away from Natasha. He playfully rolled his eyes at his sister as Laura and Natasha finished up their phone call.
"I'm gonna let Mama know," Wanda whispered to Natasha, who nodded. Wanda lightly bumped shoulders with her brother, making him exaggerate the hit and fall onto the kitchen island. Wanda quietly laughed and went back into the dining room.
Natasha ended the phone call with Laura and looked at Pietro. "Still think you chose the right sibling?" He asked with half of his body contorted around.
Natasha was confident. "Oh yeah." She said with a flat smile before walking past Pietro.
Pietro rolled his eyes and tumbled until he fell to the ground.
"I think that's a great idea!" Magda smiled at Wanda and then at Natasha as she entered the room. "Wanda told you?" Magda nodded to Natasha's words. "It'll be nice to see your family again," Magda said, making Natasha stiffen.
She knew Clint and Laura called her family but someone with an outside perspective saying it made Natasha's brain immediately think of her real family. Her Mother and Father were in Ohio, living their lives in a suburban home with an American flag folded up above the fireplace.
Natasha cleared her throat when her mind refocused. "Yeah... it will be nice! It's been a while since I've seen Laura and the kids." Wanda watched how Natasha's face lit up when she talked about the Barton's.
"Oh, she has kids? Multiple? How many?" Wanda laughed at her mother's questions. Natasha laughed through her nose and pulled out her phone. Scrolling to her folder of the kiddos. "Two. Cooper and Lila."
Magda loved the pictures of the kids and, especially, their chubby cheeks.
Wanda loved looking at pictures of Auntie Nat.
After talking to Erik when he returned home that early afternoon, Natasha was given the all-good to take the Friday through Monday off. He thought it was funny how close Natasha and his daughter had become and even asked for Wanda to bring him a souvenir back.
She explained she was only going to Iowa, but that didn't matter.
Although she DID NOT explain how her and Natasha aren't going as just friends.
Except they hadn't put a label on it yet...
Regardless. A few days later, Wanda and Natasha were off the plane and loading into the Uber to head to the Barton farm, from one farm to another. Wanda wrapped her fingers between Natasha's and laid her head on the redhead's shoulder. "Thank you for bringing me with you."
Natasha looked down to the top of the brunette's head and smiled before placing a kiss on it. "Thank you for coming. I'm excited."
Wanda lifted her head so Natasha could see her face. "Me too."
Natasha remembered what she had whispered to Wanda that day in the storm and smiled. "What?" Wanda gently asked as Natasha stared at her. "Nothing. I just love looking at your eyes." She said.
"I'd say take a picture. It'll last longer, but I'm afraid your phone storage would be gone immediately." She laughed and laid her head back on Natasha's shoulder after a kiss. Natasha thought it was funny, too, and pulled out her phone and waited...
And just when Wanda got distracted enough, she opened her camera and faced it towards herself before bringing it up under Wanda's face.
A picture that would never see the light of day was taken, and Natasha loved it.
Wanda hated it.
She protested when Natasha made it her contact photo but honestly didn't want to stop her as she pretended to reach out for Natasha's phone. She was happy, and when she saw Natasha laugh from the side, she knew she was past the point of falling.
She could hear it in the silence on the ride to the Barton's farm.
Wanda Maximoff was in love.
