Okay so
Thomas was born a Wayne. Martha was born a Kane. Both come with curses, destines, tied to Gotham from the marrow of their bones
When Martha finds out what Carmine did to Maria Kyle? She sees red. For heaven's sake, she's a Kane– she can't sit still and see the city burn itself. Do nothing. The thing she carries on her purse, unnamed, is steel heavy. She stretches her fingers, tentatively, thinking, and pulls the trigger
When the Falcone shows up the Wayne's doorstep? Thomas is too far deep in his own self-loathing. It's just one of those nights where he remembers he was born in a gold candle, fed by a silver spoon. It's just one of those days where the city weights upon his shoulder. The people count on him. The city. Can he stand tall and proud if he allows his hands to be tainted by Falcone's blood? Can he be the judge in Carmine's life? Isn't not saving someone the same as sentencing them to death? So, he made the oath, help the sick
That is to say Bruce has his mother's rage towards the city and his father's savior complex
And Carmine Falcone? He just thinks this all is amusing

Can you please do headcanons for Martha Wayne? And Thomas too! I think it’s so sad that we don’t really know a lot about these two, especially Martha. She’s so underrated—I mean, she literally gave birth to Bruce/Batman! 🫶🏼
Jewish queen
struggled with infertility before having Bruce
no taller than 5'3, she's little
you know how people joke about breaking their husband's hand during birth? she broke Thomas's hand in two places during Bruce's birth
she has an advanced degree in something unexpected like library science or accounting, but never used it after getting married
naturally curly hair, she passed this down to Bruce
met Thomas on a bar crawl in downtown Gotham. he'd heard of her through their social circles, but it took him a second to put "Martha Kane" together with "that tiny woman shotgunning a beer over there"
had a beautiful singing voice (also where Bruce got it from)
didn't like Thomas when she first met him (and it took three marriage proposals for her to agree)
was horribly ill during her pregnancy with Bruce and had to be on bed rest the whole time, which is why they hired Alfred (to help with extra tasks when she couldn't run the house)
a mean cribbage player (played frequently with Alfred while on bedrest)
once got mugged and held open her purse to show the mugger she literally only had lipstick, Thomas decided to marry her on the spot
died trying to shield Bruce so a bullet went through her and grazed Bruce's shoulder, causing a scar he never put together until he came back from training and re-read his own medical records

If Thomas Wayne was a surgeon then that means that he wasn't running wayne enterprises while alive. So I present to you: Martha wayne took over the company.
Young Thomas Wayne meets Martha Kane at a gala and they become fast friends. Martha is smart and cunning, business savy, more than Thomas was. So he convinces her to go to business school (rather scandalous for the time- assuming it's the late 40's) while they are in school and Thomas is going through medical school the two fall in love and by the time Martha graduates they decided to get married and Martha Kane is now Martha Wayne. Shortly after Thomas graduates his father decides that he can no longer run WE and Thomas, being an only child is troubled. He didn't want to run the company and honestly hadn't thought of what to do when his father stepped down. Lucky he had a brilliant beautiful, and did he say brilliant wife who just so happend to go to business school.
: ) I regect model Martha wayne because that's boring, CEO Martha wayne who was simply a fashion icon and often on the cover of magazines is better (nothing wrong with model Martha but I want Martha to be more than Bruce's mom)

Martha Wayne, Arkham Asylum & the Cour of Owls.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The latest episode of The Penguin, with its focus on Sofia’s time in Arkham Asylum, really set my mind racing—particularly about Martha Wayne and her own time there.
Watching Sofia’s torment unfold made me wonder: did Martha go through something just as harrowing?
Officially, her stints in and out of the institution were chalked up to the trauma of her mother’s suicide and her father’s murder. But was that really it? There’s this nagging sense that we’re only seeing the tip of the iceberg…
I can’t help but imagine Martha uncovering some dark family secret—perhaps something tied to the Court of Owls.
Picture this: her family is deeply entangled with the Court, and the burden of their sins becomes too much for her mother. Wracked with guilt, Martha’s mother murders her husband, then takes her own life, unable to live with what they’ve done.
And Martha, in her grief, stumbles upon the truth. Maybe she uncovers just how deeply her family was woven into the Court’s shadowy dealings, and before she can reveal it, her remaining family—fearful of exposure—has her committed to Arkham to keep her silent.
After all, what better way to discredit someone than to label them insane?
Eventually, she gets out. She meets Thomas, they fall in love, and start building a life together.
But what if Martha made a conscious choice to bury the truth? Not out of fear for herself, but to protect her new family—especially Bruce.
She may have seen the real danger, the hidden strings the Court still pulled, and realized that stirring that hornet’s nest wasn’t worth the risk.
So she stays quiet, playing the role of dutiful wife and mother, while beneath the surface, the weight of what she knows simmers, never far from her thoughts.
It’s a tantalizing idea—that there’s this whole chapter of Martha’s story we’ve never really explored. It would cast her not just as a tragic figure, but as someone who made deeply strategic choices, perhaps even heroic ones, to shield her family from an unseen threat… There’s more to her time in Arkham than we’ve been led to believe.
It’s just a theory, of course, but one that feels all too plausible when you think about the web of secrets and lies that seems to define Gotham.

Regardless of how cliche or overused it is, I always love that Thomas and Martha were already inspiring heroes well before Bruce's time.

I love the idea that Martha and Thomas killed people during their reign of Gotham and when they died they expected their son to turn out like them. To be cold and jaded by the world but instead he sees the light. He feels the pain as well as the joy and by God as his witness he won't make others suffer as he had. At first they were shocked then a little disappointed. But after seeing rogue after rogue after rogue be rehabilitated every street criminal gets a job every former member of the mob fixes their mistakes all they can feel Is proud. Proud that their son became Better. Proud that their son rose above. And proud that he used their name for such good deeds.

Thinking about the reality where Thomas and Martha become Batman and Joker, and I think the kids should be there too. Maybe Martha finds Dick before Thomas does, the clown taking in the circus boy, and Thomas finds Jason and encourages the worst of his impulses and violent tendencies, and Martha finds Tim and he reminds her so much of her Brucie that she sometimes confuses the two and calls Tim by the wrong name, and Thomas finds Damian (not the son of Bruce in the world obviously) and puts his talents and lack of mercy to good use, though he still won’t let either of the kids kill Martha.
It has so much potential, especially if most of the rest of the world is similar and Gotham is just an even more fucked up place than in Prime. The kids get families but in twisted ways, warped into the worst versions of themselves, Damian and Jason as ruthless vicious killers, Dick as a cheerful murderer who refuses to stay on the ground, Tim a cold shadow willing to do anything Martha asks as long as she keeps giving him motherly affection. The Replacement indeed.

HOLD ON. I know I talk a LOT about the boys of the batfam on here, but I have brainrot about a specific woman right now. MARTHA WAYNE. MY POOKS.
So here's another "what if the alleyway went differently" AU. Similar to my Batman!Thomas and Robin!Bruce AU, but instead it's Batman!Martha!!
Except she doesn't go by Batman or Batwoman, letting Bruce go by Batboy. She probably goes by something like Dove (hope symbolism my beloved) ORRR Bluebird (not because I have Dick resemble her a lot in my personal DCEU multiverse or anything whatttt <- lying).
I think she'd probably be a way better parent to Bruce too, making sure he got into a good school, went to therapy, AND got a psychiatrist. She probably sets aside time during the week to hang out with him and never misses a single one. She probably encourages his hobbies, which includes music, dance AND acrobatics & gymnastics. Bruce was taught acrobatics & gymnastics by The Flying Graysons, because he clearly admired them a LOT when she took him to see them!
When Thomas died and told her to run with Bruce, in this universe.. she didn't even hesitate. She kicked off her fancy heels, scooped up her baby, and RAN.
She. She means so much to me. Martha Wayne you will always be famous. I LOVE HER.

everytime I rewatch pennyworth im in awe about how nobody watched this. like, this is the greatest and worst show on earth.
bruce wayne's parents meet the devil, two separate main characters get baby trapped into marriage, there's an entire season about martha and thomas trying to get alfred into a life of crime, thomas only orders milk at bars (60s batman refrence i love you), alfred fucks the queen of england.
alfred fucks the queen of england
i cannot say how batshit crazy this show is, it's my favorite piece of comic media ever it's fucking crazy.
