FEMALE MOVIE/TV RECS (PART 4 / SUPERHERO)

got inspired from a recommendation post so decided to make a list of movies and shows with female-centric stories/female protagonists. since i can't post all of the genres in one post, i'll split it into multiple posts and y'all can save or add to the list as you wish. (disclaimer: i have watched most of these, but i only know about the existence of others. not every movie/show on these lists will be my recommendation. my recommendations will be beneath the list with reasons. also some of these are way better than others in terms of storytelling/performance--which is why i'll list my faves separately):

Common Themes:

-Female regret/being haunted by her past

-Comedy, action and mystery plots

-Found family (sometimes that means finding your actual family), heavy on the family themes

-Rivals and nemeses

-"She's our saviour and also our enemy and also our weapon!" - goofy ass men

-Female imperfection/finding herself arc

Birds of Prey (6/5/10) (i like any movie about revenge on gross men)

PERSONAL NOTES

She Hulk is really that bad. Believe the rumors. Black Widow was thoroughly enjoyable for me (i enjoy spectacle), I just think it failed on too many technicalities to not be mid. In light of the MCU, its flaws are numerous, but as its own film, it's entertaining if you don't mind being lied too so blatantly at times. The action is good and the sisterhood is even better! Black Widow deserved better than the Black Widow screenplay though.

Wakanda Forever is also pretty bloated, but the effects, performances, and action are pretty solid. The Marvels is not as bad as YouTube reactionaries are saying. It's not that good, either, but it's not She Hulk and is pretty female-centric. Many scenes where girls are just allowed to be goofy.

Also, Wanda Maximoff did nothing wrong :))) and neither did Helena Belanova :)))) Argue with a wall.
