If you like Jason Isaccs as Captain Hook, may I suggest you see him as the main antagonist of Netflix's The OA? Season one could be a stand-alone story if you wanna watch just that. To me that was the peak of his carrer as a sexy tormented villain in love with the good girl.

Okay, jokes aside - The OA is actually one of my favorite shows. Ever.

I got into it the summer it was cancelled and I still haven't fully recovered from the heartbreak. To this day, I can still remember the date, time and location where I heard about the cancellation . . . because Brit Marling used my artwork to break the news to Instagram. 💀

Tldr ; it is a very special piece of media. I don't think I'll ever find another show that blows my mind the same way this one did.

hi hi!! i am curious about the art class fic and the regulus birthday fic if you wanna talk about either or both of those!

Omg hi, thank you!! I'll gladly talk about both of them because they're so ridiculous and I love them😭

The Art class fic is such a silly fic that I came up with one night and I truly want to finish it. It's partially a texting fic— well, there's a lot of texting but it's also just a regular fic set in a modern, muggle world.

Basically, James spontaneously decides to sign up for an art class after seeing an ad online. James is not an artistic person at all, but it looked fun, so why not? He doesn't expect much, but he certainly doesn't expect to see Sirius’ little brother sat behind a desk as soon as he walks through the door.

Here's an excerpt:

James thinks, bitterly, as he comes to a harsh stop in the doorway to the classroom, that the universe is out to get him. There is no bloody way that this is happening. No, Regulus Black is not taking the same art class as him. He is just not.

Regulus is supposed to be in France, drinking and shopping and partying his way across the country with Barty and Evan, if his Instagram stories and posts are anything to go by, that is. So, imagine James’ surprise when his best friend's little brother— whom he hasn’t seen in three years— is not only back in England, but taking the same art class as James. At the same time as him. In the same building.

James contemplates the idea of running out of the building and not showing up to a single class because of this. Regulus has yet to notice him, sitting in the back with his headphones on and eyes plastered on his phone screen. He thinks that his chances of making a quiet exit without ever letting Regulus know that he was there are quite good.

Aaaand another one:

The Regulus birthday fic was actually written on my own birthday. I was having a hard time and thought I would project all of my feelings towards turning older —and my birthday in general— onto Regulus, and this fic was born. It's a muggle au and it basically follows Regulus during his birthday (no shit) and how he tries to avoid having to celebrate it. He pretends he doesn't care, that it's just another day, but deep down he wishes someone (his brother) would care enough to message him. So, in good old Regulus fashion, he shuts everyone out and ends up having a depressive ass birthday. Yay!

Here's an excerpt:

A perfect birthday, in Regulus' mind, is to pretend that it's just another day. No, nothing special about this date, just another boring, tiresome day of the week.

The problem, however, is his friends. They love birthdays. And despite knowing Regulus' hatred towards his own, they always plan something.

So, naturally, he has turned off his phone, locked the door to his flat and drawn the curtains shut, because it won't happen this year. He refuses to have them barging in with cake and wide grins on their faces. He refuses to watch Barty and Evan humiliate the fuck out of him as they start singing happy birthday out of tune in a packed restaurant. He refuses to have Pandora look at him with sympathy when he inevitably picks up his phone, waiting for a message from his brother that will never come. He refuses to have Dorcas beg him to go out for the night and get shitfaced drunk.

He also doesn't want to deal with his parents today, but there's so much to unpack about all of that so let's just… Not.

He's twenty as of today. Well, he's been twenty for eleven hours already. It doesn't feel real, very… anticlimactic, to say the least. It should be a milestone, but Regulus is all alone in his dark flat.

American model Gigi Hadid was arrested and fined in the Cayman Islands earlier this month over cannabis possession, it has been revealed.

The 28-year-old and her friend were detained after their luggage was searched as they arrived on a private jet for a holiday on 10 July.

They pleaded guilty in court and paid a fine, but no conviction was recorded.

Hadid's representative said the marijuana was purchased legally in New York "with a medical license".

"It has also been legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. Her record remains clear and she enjoyed the rest of her time on the island," they said in a statement shared with the PA news agency.

According to the Cayman Islands Customs and Border Control, Hadid and her friend Leah McCarthy were arrested for "the importation of marijuana and importation of utensils used for the consumption of marijuana".

It was a small amount, seemingly for personal consumption, the agency added.

They were taken to a detention centre and released on bail, local newspaper the Cayman Marl Road reported.

The pair appeared in the Cayman Islands summary court two days later, where they were fined 1,000 Cayman Islands dollars ($1,200; £920).

Despite this, the model appeared to still enjoy her holiday.

Setting: Marauders Era

Pairing: James Potter x Lily Evans

Warning: basically just angst-

I wrote this about two years ago and posted it on my Instagram account. I love this so much so I decided to post it here :))

It was Halloween and because of the dark times, Dumbledore had asked the head students to organize a ball to keep up the students' spirits.

James and Lily had worked as hard as they could. A week to the ball gathered up his courage and did the one thing he hadn't done since the beginning of the new school year. He asked Lily to go to the ball with him. But she said she already had a date. She smiled at him and left, not seeing James' sad smile.

I wish you bluebirds in the spring

All the girls had come to the heads' common room and been in Lily's room preparing all day. Well not all of them, since Marlene was going with Dorcas, one of them had to prepare in Lily's room and the other in James'. Since Marlene and James grew up together, Marlene felt more comfortable. She had been commenting on James' attire all day.

"James, you can't wear a yellow dress shirt, you'll look ridiculous!"

"I don't care!"

"I do! Wear something sensible!" She smacked him. She heard James mumble something but she ignored it.

"I don't care, not when she has a date." He mumbled.

As much Marlene loved her best friend, she had gotten in an argument with her because of James many times, especially the times when Lily called him names. Two weeks ago they had argued about how James was all grown up and Lily should give him a chance. It ended with Lily saying that no matter how much the git grew up, she would never date him, another reason why Marlene was preparing in James' room, not Lily's. Of course James never knew about these arguments

James and Marlene went to the great hall to wait for the others. Marlene heard James' breath hitch when Lily came in. Lily wore a medium length emerald dress that covered just below her knees.

Marlene squeezed James' arm, smiling sympathetically at him. She kissed his cheek and went to Dorcas. James' heart broke when he saw Michael McLaggen kiss her cheek and hold her hand. He wanted to tear him apart but then he saw Lily's beautiful smile. She was happy. He made her happy. She didn't call him a git on a regular basis. She liked him. Who was James to deprive her of the happiness she felt?

The boys came and saw James sulking.

"Not on my watch!" Sirius declared.

The boys went to him and made a few jokes. When that didn't work they charmed the chairs to dance. James didn't even smile. Marlene saw this from the other side of the room and stomped to where the boys were standing, with Dorcas running behind her. She started scolding the boys (Sirius) when he stopped her mid sentence telling her they were (he was) trying to cheer James up.

That's when Marlene and Dorcas turned to see James. Never had she seen her brother so sad.

She smiled softly.

"James, there is always next time. You can ask her out for the next Hogsmade trip."

James smiled sadly at her and kissed her forehead. "No Marls. It's over. Tell her I set her free." Marlene's heart broke. James never gave up. He would work hard or even fight for the things he wanted and he never gave up. Never.

He never gave up even if he failed, his chase to get Lily was proof of that. But apparently, for the first time in his life, James Potter gave up.

The head boy and head girl had to open the ball.

The song, "The River Flows In You" played and James offered his hand to Lily. Lily looked him up and down. He looked very handsome. Even though his glasses were crooked and his hair was very messy, Lily thought he had never looked more handsome, more perfect. She has had a little crush on him ever since the start of the year but she kept denying it and him looking so great wasn't helping her denial. Lily smiled and took it. It was a slow dance. The dress was backbear but Lily's long hair covered her back.

She felt her cheeks go warm when James' hand came into contact with the skin of her back. His hand was so gentle and soft. He wasn't gripping her, he was holding her. They started dancing.

The moment the second couple started dancing as well, James leaned in. His hot breath on her neck and ear made her knees go weak. "I wish you love." He slowly whispered and suddenly he was gone. His soft and gentle touch, his hot breath and his handsome face were all suddenly gone.

Someone touched her shoulder and she turned to see Michael. They started dancing but it wasn't the same. Something was missing. James had something that Michael didn't and Lily couldn't figure out what it was. As the night went on she kept thinking if she had heard James right, if he had really whispered "I wish you love" What did he mean by that. She kept looking around so she could find him and ask him what he meant. But James was in his room, with the Marauders' map, softly touching Lily's dot and breathing heavily as he could feel the weight of his broken heart in his chest. Lily would be happier if he didn't bother her anymore, she would smile more, she would find the person who would make her happy, so he backed off. Seeing her smile and be happy was enough even if she wasn't with him. His chest felt tight and his throat hurt because of the lump he had been holding in but that was a small price to pay for Lily's happiness.

Chrono Trigger Review

According to many gamer tweets, Instagram posts, and blog posts that I've seen online, Chrono Trigger is considered one of the best JRPGs ever made.

As someone who loves the Final Fantasy series, but never played Chrono Trigger, I was intrigued. The title seemed like a classic JRPG that all gamers *needed* to play at least once in their life.

So finally, in 2022, I bought the Windows PC version of the game on Steam. I was immediately impressed!

Story

Chrono Trigger begins with our main character, Crono, a kind-hearted, quiet boy, attending a festival in town. He meets Marle, an energetic and friendly girl, who accompanies him as he explores the festival.

They decide to watch Lucca (Crono's very smart and scrappy childhood friend) present her latest invention. Marle participates in Lucca's showcase, but something goes wrong with the invention and Marle is unexpectedly teleported away.

Crono and Lucca follow along and find themselves teleported to the past. As they explore this new world, they meet new people, hear stories, and uncover the dangers that the future will face.

With time-traveling capabilities, Crono, Marle, Lucca, and their new friends embark on a mission to save the world from the destructive monster, Lavos. And so begins a great quest through past, present, and future!

Gameplay

I played the definitive version of Chrono Trigger on PC and had an enjoyable experience. There weren't any excessively long wait times, everything ran smoothly and fast.

The battle system is an active turn-based system with 3 party members. There are moments in the game where you must include specific characters in your party, but besides these mandatory moments, you are able to freely swap characters in and out.

There aren't any random encounters in the traditional sense of the word. The enemies in Chrono Trigger are fixed to specific locations that you can on-screen. (Sometimes they are hidden and jump out at you, though.) If you exit a room and enter it again, the same enemies will respawn there. It's a great way to level up if you find enemies that give a lot of post-battle points.

Speaking of points, your characters earn EXP points to level up and Tech Points that go towards learning new Technique abilities. I loved that ALL of my characters, active and non-active, earned EXP and TP from battles. It was nice to switch between party members and not worry about one of them being under-leveled.

Multiple Endings

Something to quickly touch on, this game has 13 different endings. (This scared me at first, because I didn't want to get a bad ending.) The ending you get depends on when & how you choose to fight the final boss, who you have in your party, and what parts of the story you were able to experience.

Having multiple endings is a very unique set-up and makes for great replayability. However, I finished this game once and I got the "Beyond Time" ending (which I'm assuming is the standard ending?) and I would replay this game even if I got the same ending again! All that to say, with or without multiple endings, this game is very much replayable!

Music

Composers: Yasunori Mitsuda and Nobuo Uematsu

The music in Chrono Trigger is amazing! The battle theme is one of the best battle songs I have ever heard. You will get in a lot of battles and NOT ONCE did the battle theme become annoying. Some of my other favorites include Memories of Green, Wind Scene, and Frog's Theme. All of the music gives each location a unique vibe. There were also sound effects throughout that enhanced the gaming experience. For example, the sound of buttons on machines being pressed, seals breaking, and even the sound of wind were all nice touches.

Graphics

Chrono Trigger is a pixel art video game which is an art style I love. While playing the definitive version on PC, I enabled the high resolution graphics. They offer a softening effect, smoothing the sharp corners of pixels without actually losing the pixelated art.

Character emotions and movements are cleverly expressed. When Marle shouts, when Frog jumps with shock, or when Lucca celebrates a win are all examples of this game delivering emotion through pixelated art.

Chrono Trigger also includes anime cutscenes that further enhance the story, giving the characters MORE facial expressions and movement possibilities. Both art forms worked well together!

Overall

I am so glad I was able to experience this perfect masterpiece. Calling a game "perfect" is extreme, but in this case, I think Chrono Trigger is fully capable of carrying this accolade.

The story is easy to follow and the time-traveling theme is executed well, with easy-to-understand rules. Game objectives are straightforward, making Chrono Trigger fun to play and easy to pick up.

Although the story's ultimate perils are dark and sinister, the game was able to incorporate comedy throughout the story (thanks to their amazing cast of characters!) to lighten the mood. I'm very impressed with everything I saw in Chrono Trigger and I highly recommend everyone play this classic JRPG!
