The games that came with it could be mostly played with a regular NES, but certain abilities could only be used with the PowerGlove. It is a weird experiment, something of a cross between the augmented-reality glove controllers and regular gyroscopic controllers we have in the modern day. I feel as if the games it came with would be easier to play without actually wearing the glove, though. A better version might be something akin to the Knuckle controllers that come with a Valve Index VR headset.

This is actually a pretty awesome idea for a game. It's a mech combat game where you pilot a Vertical Tank (VT), but it comes with a gigantic controller. The controller has two joysticks, a throttle, three foot pedals, a dial for in-game radio channels, five switches, about a dozen buttons, and even an emergency eject button. I imagine that playing the game, you feel like you're actually in the cockpit of a massive mech - even starting a level, you need to go through the boot sequence, hitting various power switches in the right order. If you mess up, the engine overheats and you need to start again. I imagine that if this control system wasn't made bespoke for the Steel Battalion series, it could be more popular; for example, if it was a one-size-fits-all system like various farmsticks and driving rigs, except for mech games like Titanfall and MechWarrior Online. I might actually do that for my project actually. On the topic of accessibility, this actually resembles one of those large Xbox controllers with remapped inputs, so it could work better than a standard one.

That problem does exist with most games, however, not just with these bongos.

This is an interesting controller. It has various buttons, a joystick, a crank on the side for a reeling-in motion, and even motion tracking in it like a Wii. As far as I can tell, it works with many famous Dreamcast fishing games, such as Sega Bass Fishing and also Sega Marine Fishing. It is good to see a unique controller like this being functional across multiple games, which was a complaint I had about some previous controllers on this list. It's also not entirely a novelty item - it seems to work ok, and plenty of games still have fishing minigames in them, so this controller could be plugged in for a twist on that. Accessibility-wise, it requires you to frantically reel in fish, which could be difficult if you are not too mobile in the arms.
Conclusion
In terms of unique and interesting ideas, there are certainly many for home consoles, but I am not as impressed by these ones as I was by, say, the arcade. Lots of these can be chalked up to weird experiments, or bespoke items that work for one game, and nothing else. I was most interested by the Steel Battalion controller.
