Prince Luitpold is one of the most popular Regents ever known, has won the love of the Bavarians by his own devotion to the kingdom, which under his wise and just rule has kept up its prestige, and grown exceedingly prosperous. He has always been a trusted and valued friend of Prussia, a circumstance which may account for the full measure of autonomy retained by Bavaria to the present day. The second son of King Ludwig I and brother of King Maximilian II, he was born at Wurzburg in 1821, and showed from his childhood a lovable disposition, which fostered by his sensible bringing up; he was encouraged to mix with other children, who were invited to play with him on Sundays and holidays during the summer at the Castle of Nymphenburg. A love of Nature, and more especially of mountain scenery, was always strongly developed in the Prince, whose tastes were simple and healthy; he indulged freely in physical exercises of all kinds, but was also greatly attracted to Art, Literature, and Science, which he has consistently patronised throughout his regency, winning himself a well-earned reputation for high culture. In 1844, Prince Luitpold celebrated his marriage to Princess Augusta of Tuscany, with whom he had fallen deeply in love. On the morning of the wedding, as the bridegroom-elect was returning from rearly mass, the Florentines acclaimed him with enthusiasm along the route, shouting repeatedly, “Le renda felice!” (Make her happy), a heartfelt wish which Prince Luitpold did his best to gratify during the twenty years of his happy married life. Maria Theresa, Archduchess of Austria-Este, the wife of their eldest son, Prince Ludwig, is the heiress of the Stuarts, and is regarded as their rightful sovereign by the small band of Jacobites who still periodically protest against the Guelf usurption (as they call it).
The Living Rulers of Mankind by Henry Neville Hutchinson, 1902

Since Queen Victoria canonically existed in the movie my current headcanon is that in the RWARB universe the Prince of Wales Bertie didn't marry Alexandra of Denmark but Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria-Este, who was the Jacobite claimant during the 19th century, thus uniting the families again. Now I don't have any idea what alternative history event should happen to make the heir of the most Protestant royal family marry a member of the most Catholic royal family (both with marriage bans for each other's religions), but I guess is also the event that prevented WWI from happening?
Super late but I finally watched Red, White and Royal Blue (peak romcom cinema was saved) and I can't stop thinking about the alternate British royal family. Like the dynasty is Hanover-Stuart?? So like the Stuarts married back into the family at some point?? Is Scotland still part of Great Britain or they regained independence??? Also why didn't they renamed the dynasty during WWI???? Did WWI even happened in the RWARB universe?????
#people with more knowledge of 19th century British history please feel free to add#also fun fact the current jacobite claimant is the head of the house of wittelsbach duke franz of bavaria
