Say hello to the chicest Vespa ever - fashion and trends
https://liveindiatimes.com/say-hello-to-the-chicest-vespa-ever-fashion-and-trends/
Fashion brands and automobiles have had a major history of creative collaborations – be it Maserati teaming up with Ermenegildo Zegna (2014) or Rover collaborating with Paul Smith (1998) to create the limited-edition Mini. Other key examples are Fiat 500 by Gucci (2011) and Hermes Citroen 2CV6 Special (2008).
Talking of automobiles, Vespas have always been the epitome of style and Italian sprezzatura. The very mention of the scooter brings to mind the soul-searing imagery of cult classics like Roman Holiday and The Talented Mr Ripley. The visuals of Audrey Hepburn and Gregory Peck riding on the hipster two-wheeler in Rome’s tony lane is hard to erase. Picture Matt Damon ferrying Gwyneth Paltrow on an olive-green Vespa through the cobbled stradine of Mongibello in The Talented Mr Ripley and it instantly puts you in a holiday mood.
So all the Vespa fans out there, here’s the luxe buzz you’ve been waiting for. The Italian brand ties up with Dior to create the Vespa 946 Christian Dior.
The iconic Vespa in the classic film Roman Holiday
A partnership which reconciles French brand’s savoir-faire with Vespa’s rakish nonchalance. A visually sumptuous, exclusive scooter with matching accessories — which bring to mind the care-free and caviar-soaked holidays spent in the sun-kissed Amalfi and Côte d’Azur.
The Vespa 946 Christian Dior reimagines the iconic model in a graphically elegant version designed by Maria Grazia Chiuri. Its sleek and elegant design is accented with a top case and helmet kissed with the Dior Oblique motif, an echo of the seat’s design. These limited-edition creations will be revealed in spring 2021 in the brand’s boutiques worldwide, and subsequently in a selection of the Piaggio group’s Motoplex stores1.
Accessories such as the top case and helmet will be available exclusively in Dior boutiques.

Dior Collaborates With Vespa on a Limited-edition Scooter – WWD
https://pmcwwd.files.wordpress.com/2020/06/13_ph_dior_7061_cmyk-copy.jpg?w=640&h=415&crop=1
LA DOLCE VITA: Dior has linked with Italian brand Vespa to create an exclusive scooter and a range of matching accessories.
In the works since before the coronavirus pandemic put the world in lockdown, the collaboration is rooted in the “spirit of freedom, movement and expression,” the companies said in a joint statement.
Maria Grazia Chiuri, creative director of Dior women’s collections, designed the limited-edition version of the Vespa 946, a modernized version of the scooter that was originally presented by manufacturer Piaggio in 2012.
“For me, Vespa is linked to my city, Rome,” she said, evoking the image of Audrey Hepburn riding on the back of Gregory Peck’s scooter in the 1953 movie “Roman Holiday.”
“I have so many happy memories starring a Vespa. It’s how my husband and I used to get around Rome and go to the seaside in Fregene. It’s a symbol of Italian-ness that is intricately linked to my personal history, and it’s now part of my professional life at Dior,” Chiuri said.
Pietro Beccari, chairman and chief executive officer of Christian Dior Couture, noted the house’s founder Christian Dior was fascinated with the Italian Riviera in the Fifties.
“The Dolce Vita lifestyle never ceased to infuse its elegant spirit into his haute couture models, a sun-drenched magic that today, more than ever, is perpetuated in the collections of Maria Grazia Chiuri,” he said.
Dior was due to underscore its ties with Italian culture with the planned presentation of its cruise collection in Lecce on May 9, but it was forced to cancel the show due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Vespa 946 Christian Dior, featuring a saddle patterned with the Dior Oblique motif, will go on sale in spring 2021 in Dior boutiques around the world and subsequently in a selection of Piaggio’s Motoplex stores. Accessories, including a matching helmet and top case designed to be fixed on the luggage rack, will be available exclusively in Dior boutiques.
Michele Colaninno, ceo of holding company Immsi Group and Piaggio’s chief of product and strategy, noted the scooter was a symbol of escape to new horizons.
“In these unprecedented times, it is great to be able to dream of a better future. The house of Dior opened its doors in 1946 in Paris, the same year that Vespa made its debut in Italy. This new Vespa 946 celebrates that anniversary and honors our heritage,” he said.
“Today, like yesterday, we have gone through a dark period and now we are joining forces to share some joie de vivre through a combination of style and craftsmanship,” Colaninno concluded.

What Anita Hill, Drew Barrymore, and 6 others had to say about women's empowerment, sexual abuse, and retouched photos
On Monday, Glamour magazine hosted its 27th annual Women of the Year Awards, celebrating the year’s most groundbreaking women while paying tribute to original trailblazers.
This year’s awards were perhaps the biggest in recent history by star count, with attendees from the Condé Nast and Hollywood orbits out in a full showing of support for Glamour editor-in-chief Cindi Leive, who will step down from her post at the end of the year.
The awards recognized 10 figures (in addition to Leive herself) from fashion, the arts, politics, and sciences, as Women of the Year: Muzoon Almellehan, Samantha Bee, Maria Grazia Chiuri, Gigi Hadid, Patty Jenkins, Nicole Kidman, Solange Knowles, Maxine Waters, Peggy Whitson, and the organizers of the Women’s March.
Along the red carpet came even more celebrities (including some previously honored as Women of the Year) to pay homage to the women chosen: Serena Williams, Ashley Graham, Iman, Nina Agdal, Nick Jonas, Anna Wintour.
Accompanying the Glamour Women of the Year Awards was a summit, held earlier that day, that included panel discussions and workshops addressing women’s issues and empowerment. There were discussions about persistence, business success, body positivity, and sexual liberation.
Yahoo Lifestyle asked attendees on the red carpet about their thoughts on some of the summit’s biggest themes — sexual harassment and assault, sisterhood, empowerment, and more. Here’s what they had to say.

Anita Hill, professor, attorney, and pioneer
Yahoo Lifestyle: With the women who have come forward and men who have faced consequences for allegations of sexual harassment and abuse, is it enough when an alleged abuser’s career ends abruptly? AH: It depends on the nature of the harassment. Some of this is physical assault, and in those cases there should be criminal charges. If there are criminal assault charges, it’s not just about people’s fears over rape and sexual assault, it’s about the criminal justice system and seeking justice for the victims. Bozoma Saint John, Uber chief brand officer
Yahoo Lifestyle: You were hired to address the negative attention Uber’s received over sexual harassment and inequality in the workplace. What is a tangible thing you invoke at the company to combat these issues? BSJ: I’m a corporate citizen, and I’m an employee like everybody else. So I want the environment to be good for me, too. … I had a big voice at the table, as you can imagine. I’m not quiet about anything. It’s about using my voice as big and as loud as I can for those who aren’t seen or heard, and using it to represent us. (Photo: Noam Galai/WireImage)

Ibtihaj Muhammad, U.S. Olympian and inspiration for first hijab-wearing Barbie
Yahoo Lifestyle: Looking to 2018, what do you hope more people discuss? IM: I do think self-care is important, but one way we can help ourselves is to help one another. There are a lot of global issues I find important that I think the world has gone silent on. One of the largest issues that I see, that we as a global community need to take more action on, is in Myanmar and Burma. (Photo: Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Glamour)

Prabal Gurung, women’s wear designer
Yahoo Lifestyle: What does it mean for you to attend the Glamour Women of the Year (WOTY) Awards? PG: I don’t think there’s been a more exciting time in history for women. To see they’re all coming together, that’s incredible power and force we’re all witnessing, which I’ve always believed in. I’m just here to celebrate that. As a women’s wear designer, there’s nothing more gratifying than to see women in power. (Photo: Gregory Pace/REX/Shutterstock)
Source: Yahoo Lifestyle
Iskra Lawrence, Aerie Real campaign model
Yahoo Lifestyle: Do you retouch your own photos? IL: I actually made a commitment three or four years ago that I wouldn’t ever retouch my own social media, the images I have control over. I do that for my followers, but I also do it for myself. Knowing that I look online the same as I do in real life is a breath of fresh air. I don’t want to spend time picking out things I think are flaws, or society or the media has told me aren’t as beautiful, and try to raise them. I don’t want to go through that every single day. (Photo: Gregory Pace/REX/Shutterstock)
Source: Yahoo Lifestyle
Drew Barrymore, actress and director
Yahoo Lifestyle: What are your biggest takeaways from the Glamour Women of the Year Summit and Awards? DB: I think this is an extraordinary time for women. We have to encourage all of this strength. Defiance is a tricky word, but there’s a way women can be pioneers that seems a lot more in keeping with strength rather than anger. The hope is that women are taking care of themselves and taking care of each other inadvertently. For every woman who is brave, she’s protecting another woman. Billie Eilish, musician and Glamour WOTY performer
Yahoo Lifestyle: Who is your best friend? What’s the best thing about them, and what would they say is the best thing about you? BE: Probably my brother. I think he just understands through everything, he’s there and I understand him. We write together and he produces all my stuff. He says the best thing about me is also probably the worst: I’m strong-willed. I never don’t do what I want to do. It can be great, but horrible, too. People don’t really like when other people know what they want. (Photo: Dimitrios Kambouris/Getty Images for Glamour)

Halima Aden, first high fashion model to wear a hijab
Yahoo Lifestyle: Looking to 2018, what do you hope more people discuss? HA: It’s all about sharing your story. Even though I was born in a refugee camp, I tell it in an endearing way. I take away from that experience the happiness, the joy, from an early age appreciating the culture. When we’re stripped of everything, we learn to appreciate each other. If I can get that message out there, it would be that we have more things in common than are different. (Photo: Jamie McCarthy/Getty Images for Glamour)
