Tumblr media
The Margarita Glass Market is estimated for 2023 for the forecast period 2023-2030, as highlighted in a new report published by Coherent Market Insights.
Market Overview:
Margarita glasses are designed to serve cocktails, specifically Margaritas. They feature a wide rim and flared shape that helps concentrate the aroma of the drink while sipping.

The growth of the margarita glass market is driven by the rising popularity of cocktails globally. According to National Restaurant Association, the cocktail menu is among the top drivers that encourage patrons to visit a bar or restaurant. In addition, consumers are increasingly spending more on premium alcoholic beverages and cocktail experiences. Younger demographic is actively experimenting with mixed drinks and prefer alcoholic drinks served in stylish glassware like margarita glasses. rising culture of social media inspired home bartending is also propelling the demand for specialized glassware like margarita glasses.
Major Driver #1: Increased Popularity of Cocktails and Mocktails
The popularity of cocktails and mocktails is increasing tremendously among customers. Margarita is one of the most popular cocktails in the world. According to a survey, margarita is among the top 5 most ordered drinks at bars and restaurants. The demand for cocktails and mocktails has risen sharply among youngsters and working professionals. A really charming part of Barbie history is all the tiny accessories for Barbie to use. There's something that just HITS about a tiny object.
In 2017, a number of accessory packs hit the market for Barbie. This is nothing unusual: Mattel frequently cycles through different portrayals of tiny objects or outfits to match what is currently on trend or what hasn't been in the Barbie line lately, to encourage new purchases. This particular run of accessory packs included food items for "gourmet stories".
Tumblr media
The Breakfast pack, for example, had bacon and eggs, a pan and a waffle iron. (Note: although the outside of the waffle iron contains the Barbie logo, the inside doesn't. This is a missed opportunity to print the Barbie logo directly on the waffles. Mattel, I am trying to help YOU out here.)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I'm quite fond of these, for a number of reasons. First and foremost, I love a tiny object - but also I like some of the details. I like how the cup measures are shaped like hearts in the baking set. I like that the pasta set comes with a colander!
The downside, though: as far as I can tell the sets are hard molded plastic and you can't e.g. use the tongs. This is really disappointing and Mattel could do better.
But I would be remiss in not pointing out the taco party pack.
Tumblr media
Why does this one stand out to me? Well, first of all, I love tacos. But second of all, it features a green margarita glass.
Tumblr media
Maybe Barbie is drinking soda out of it, but you can't tell me that ISN'T a margarita glass.
I support Barbie drinking responsibly.

Margarita Glass Market: Analyzing Supply Chain Resilience
Tumblr media
Early Origins of Glass Drinking Vessels
Glass has been used for drinking vessels since at least the 1st century AD. The earliest glass bottles were produced in Roman Syria but it was the Venetians in the 13th century who perfected glass blowing techniques and mass-produced glassware including glasses and goblets. These early glass vessels were blown into molds leaving distinctive punts on the bottom. The main types of glasses produced were tumblers and goblets used for wine and other alcoholic beverages. It wasn't until the mid-20th century that the cocktail glass design we know today started taking shape.
Development of the Salt-Rimmed Cocktail Glass
The margarita cocktail is believed to have been invented in 1938 at a restaurant in Mexico. This tequila-lime-orange liqueur drink was traditionally served in a rocks glass or on the rocks in a tumbler with salt applied to the rim. In the following decades as the margarita gained popularity in the United States, specially designed salt-rimmed glasses started being used exclusively for this cocktail. The typical design features a stem and footed base with a wider bowl section and a salted rim. This glass shape perfectly complemented the flavors of the salted rim and allowed the drinker to enjoy the sensation of salt and tangy cocktail together with each sip.
Standardization and Mass Production in the Mid-20th Century
As cocktail culture boomed in the post-WW2 era, drinkware manufacturers started producing standard barware including the cocktail glass. Companies like Libbey Glass and Arc International mass-produced basic cocktail glass with a simple but functional design - a short stem, bowl-shaped bowl tapering out from a base and a flat rim that could easily be coated with salt. These affordable, stackable glasses became a staple for bars and households hosting home cocktail parties. Through the 1950s and 60s, this basic cocktail glass design became the industry standard as pre-mixed margarita mixes also hit the market.
Evolution of Stylish and Decorative Glassware
As the margarita became a signature American drink, glass styles evolved to reflect trends. In the 70s, bolder coloured and patterned glasses were produced to match the psychedelic aesthetic. The 80s saw the emergence of designer stemware with etched or cut designs. Meanwhile, companies like Riedel added complexity with specialized shapes tuned to different tequila varieties. The 90s gave rise to stylish etched ribs, modern silhouettes and new materials like lead crystal glass. Today's hand-blown artistic interpretations showcase intricate designs alongside mass-produced staples. Custom engraving and glass blowing offers personalized styles. This evolution highlights the margarita glass as not just a drinking vessel but a symbol of celebration, festivity and signature craft cocktail culture.
Material Advancements - Lead Crystal and Tritan Plastic
Alongside changes in shapes and designs, materials for cocktail glass also advanced. In the late 20th century, lead crystal glasses became popular choices for their brilliance and weight. However, concerns around lead exposure spurred the development of alternative materials. In recent decades, Eastman Tritan copolyester was introduced as a shatter-resistant, BPA-free option that mimics the look of glass. Tritan provided durability for outdoor use without compromising on clarity or style. While "crystal" lead glass remains the premium choice, Tritan plastic margarita glasses are preferable for events with potential risks of breakage and for households with young families. This expansion of materials makes these iconic cocktail vessels accessible to an even wider audience.
Enduring Popularity in the New Millennium
Today, despite competition from new cocktails and drinks, the margarita remains hugely popular around the world. Its simple recipe of just three ingredients is partly why it endures as the symbolic drink of Mexican heritage and times of celebration. Meanwhile, high-end interpretations featuring premium aged tequilas and personalized garnishes appeal to sophisticated palates. The iconic glass also stays relevant - whether basic salt-rimmed tumblers, or artistic stems with contemporary cuts. As long as people raise a toast with this fresh and tangy drink, its signature glass will remain ensconced in cocktail culture and ritually synonymous with festivities and good times.

El Presidente brings the fiesta to Union Market!
El Presidente has vibrant energy and a festive ambiance! Offering a fusion of festive and nostalgic Mexican flavors, their menu celebrates traditional ingredients infused with a contemporary flair.
I had the pleasure of indulging in delights such as the raw bar selections, guacamole with succulent king crab and delicious customizable lobster tacos. The menu also had indulgent shared plates like the Tomahawk Ribeye and Whole Striped Sea Bass. The menu delivers with both the anticipated guacamole and tortilla soup, alongside the more unusual offerings: oysters and colossal prawns showcased on ice near the partially open kitchen, reminiscent of a lively marisquería, or seafood eatery. Among the captivating pairings, one standout features slices of raw yellowtail nestled in a refreshing blend of cucumber juice, fennel, and lime—a vibrant green contrast to the velvety texture of the fish.
The best part of tis restaurant was immersing myself in the interconnected dining spaces adorned with eclectic decor, all while experiencing the legendary hospitality synonymous with the southern border. El Presidente promises an immersive dining experience that celebrates the artistry of socializing.
Complementing El Presidente’s culinary offerings were an array of tequila and mezcal cocktails, crafted to highlight the rich agave flavors. I especially enjoyed El Presidente's frozen pineapple margarita, a refreshing blend of fruit juice and tequila that packs a flavorful punch. Guests that dined close to me raved about a Pepper cocktail which lived up up to its bold name with a tantalizing combination of red bell pepper juice, chili liqueur, and smoky mezcal. And for a taste of tropical paradise, savor the irresistible mix of rum, coconut, lime, and pineapple juice served in a playful shark-shaped glass topped with a charming palm tree umbrella. The beverages certainly call for sponges!
All in all, El Presidente is easily a 10/10. It ventures beyond the scope of many typical Mexican restaurants and remains the easiest way to reach Mexico City without a passport.

Navigating Regulatory Frameworks in the Margarita Glass Market
Tumblr media
The Rise of the Margarita Glass in Bar Culture Evolution of the Margarita Glass Design The basic design of the margarita glass has evolved over the past few decades. Originally, margaritas were served in simple rocks glasses or lowball glasses. However, in the mid-20th century, specialized margarita glasses began emerging that featured a salted rim. These early margarita glasses had straight sides and were shorter than contemporary designs.
Contemporary Margarita Glass Designs Today, there is incredible variety in margarita glass designs. While a standard design has remained popular, comprising a flared top, wide mouth, and slightly curved body, many specialized designs have emerged. for example, some glasses feature lime or salt motifs etched into the glass. Others have names or phrases related to margaritas. Sizes of margarita glasses also vary more than in the past. In addition to the standard 8-10 oz glasses, 12 and 16 oz sizes have become prevalent. This accommodates drinks served on the rocks or topped with beer. 'Titans' or 28+ oz glasses intended for multiple drinkers have also grown in popularity. Growing Margarita Glass Market Bartender preferences and drink trends have boosted the margarita glass market in recent years. According to market research firms, over 500 million margarita glasses are sold annually in the United States alone, with sales reaching $350 million. The global margarita glass market is projected to grow to $1 billion by 2028. Craft Bar Glassware Innovation Bars seeking to distinguish their margarita programs have fueled innovation in glassware. Craft bars often release limited edition glass designs tied to holidays, events, or seasonal ingredients. For example, a bar might release snowflake-etched glasses for winter or glass charro hats for Dia de los Muertos. Some craft bars engrave customized glassware with logos or artwork as keepsakes. Diner-style restaurants have released oversized "pitcher glass" designs emulating classic chrome-trimmed glassware. Vibrant colors like pink, orange and lime green glasses have also increased in popularity. Margarita Glass Manufacturing Efficiency To keep up with growing demand yet control glassware budgets, manufacturers have improved efficiency. Molds can now produce dozens of identical glasses per minute compared to single batches in older glassblowing methods. Advances like computer-controlled molding allow intricate detail impossible with handblown techniques. CNC cutting technology facilitates rapid prototyping of new glass styles. Automated production lines precisely place molded glasses onto decorating belts for etching, staining or color application. Such manufacturing efficiency gains enable mass-producing low-cost standard glasses alongside small batch specialty designs. This empowers bars, distributors and manufacturers alike to explore new glassware frontiers driving the thriving margarita glass culture

Some mocktails to enjoy if you take part in Dry January
At the gym last week, I noticed it was much busier than usual with many new faces there working out. For a moment, I forgot that the increased attendance was probably due to people’s new year’s resolutions.
Ringing in the new year brings a plethora of goals and changes one hopes to accomplish in the next 365 days: financial, relationships, education goals and, of course, the popular health and wellness intentions.
I’ve come across many articles about Dry January, a newish initiative that originated in 2013 in the United Kingdom.
According to research company CGA  (https://bit.ly/48iHVnM): “Dry January has been growing in popularity for several years, and 2022 saw participation grow to 35% in the US — a significant increase from 21% of consumers who took part in 2019. Out of those who intended to abstain from alcohol, an impressive 74% claim to have succeeded versus the average 8-10% of consumers who stick to their New Year’s resolutions.”
An article about participating in Dry January published by the University of Sussex shares encouraging statistics, https://bit.ly/3vnzoBA. A few of the results presented: 93% of participants had a sense of accomplishments, 70% had generally improved health, 71% slept better, 58% lost weight.
As more people celebrate Dry January and embrace an alcohol-free lifestyle, restaurants and bars have embraced the trend with the creation of inventive mocktails. They seem to be the buzzword. There are options on menus for vegetarians, vegans and those following a gluten-free diet, so why not have mixologists create choices for those who choose to enjoy sipping on a beverage prepared without alcohol?
Just in time for Dry January, “The Mocktail Club: Classic Recipes (and New Favorites) Without the Booze,” by Derick Santiago (2024, Adams Media/Simon & Schuster, $19.99) has been published.
“in June of 2022 I decided to change my relationship with alcohol,” Santiago said in an interview.
His goal was to create non-alcoholic drinks that didn’t use only juices and teas. Quite often they are sweet and are guzzled down. He wanted to create a more sophisticated mocktail. His first creation was the Spicy Pineapple Margarita, and from this recipe his creative juices started to flow.
After publishing a few recipes on Instagram and receiving positive responses from followers, he knew he was onto something. He wasn’t in the market, so to speak, to publish a book, until Adams Media found him online. They were looking for an author to write a book about mocktails. Voilà … his book featuring 75 creative mocktails was published.
Santiago’s approach to these drinks, both classics and new creations, uses fresh ingredients, alcohol-free and non-alcohol spirits. He has created the best way to experience the joy of one’s favorite drink in the comfort of home…no bar, crowd, nor booze.
In the introduction he writes: “Mocktails today are worlds apart from the mocktails of the past… So, regardless of your reason for not consuming alcohol, you can still enjoy a carefully crafted adult drink with balanced, delicious, and complex flavors, all served in a fancy glass with a beautiful garnish.
It was interesting learning about the how substitutes for whiskey, rum, gin and other spirits are made as well as their flavor profiles. One thing Santiago stressed in our conversation is the absence of alcohol doesn’t mean that a mocktail is inferior.
He defines the definitions of nonalcoholic, alcohol-free, zero-proof and dealcoholized. Did you know, in the United States, beverages with up to .5% alcohol by volume (ABV) can be considered nonalcoholic. Alcohol-free and zero-proof means there is 0% alcohol by volume. This is not the case in the United Kingdom, where beverages with up to .05% ABV can be labeled as alcohol-free.
Celebrate Dry January with Santiago’s recipes. You just might embrace the mocktail movement with all the flavors you love without the alcohol. Here are a few of his recipes to get you started.
Tumblr media
Good mocktails such as this Pina Colada need something to balance the sweetness and add complexity. This version uses frozen pineapple chunks for added texture, and also uses a dark rum alternative that gives it a nice kick.
Pina Colada
The headnote says: “Virgin piña coladas, although tasty, are usually on the sweeter side. Good mocktails need something to balance the sweetness and add complexity. This version uses frozen pineapple chunks for added texture, and also uses a dark rum alternative that gives it a nice kick! You can use fresh pineapple chunks in place of the frozen pineapple chunks.”
Serves 1
Ingredients:
½ cup frozen pineapple chunks
2 ounces pineapple juice
1 ounce cream of coconut
1 ounce coconut milk
2 ounces dark rum alternative
1 cup crushed ice
3 pineapple fronds and 3 maraschino cherries for garnish
Directions:
1. Put a highball glass in the freezer, allowing it to chill as you prepare the drink. Extra points if you have a pineapple-shaped glass!
2. Place pineapple, pineapple juice, cream of coconut, coconut milk, rum alternative, and ice in a blender. Blend until smooth. If it is too thick, add more pineapple juice.
3. Using a spatula or a bar spoon, scoop the mixture into the chilled highball glass.
4. To garnish, stick pineapple fronds on top of the drink and finish with cherries on a cocktail pick.
5. Add a fancy straw and enjoy this fantastic mocktail that is both refreshing and delicious!
Mocktail twist: Storing pineapple fronds is easy and provides a handy option for creating garnishes. After removing the fronds from the pineapple, clean and store them in a resealable plastic bag in the freezer. When you need them, just put the fronds under cool running water and they will look fresh again.

Aside from flavors that are reminiscent of cheerful holiday moods, there is also a tingling and warming sensation from the ginger beer in this Holiday Punch.
Holiday Punch
The headnote says: “Most dark rum alternatives have notes of vanilla and warm spices. Combine this with flavors of cranberry and ginger and it will definitely remind you of the holiday season. Aside from flavors that are reminiscent of cheerful holiday moods, there is also a tingling and warming sensation from the ginger beer. Although an iced drink, it still offers a soothing and relaxing vibe.”
Serves 1
Ingredients:
2 ounces dark rum alternative
½ ounce Simple Syrup (see recipe in Chapter 1)
½ ounce lime juice
1 ounce cranberry juice
3 ounces ginger beer
1 lime wheel and 1 cocktail cherry for garnish
Directions:
1. In a cocktail shaker, combine rum alternative, Simple Syrup, lime juice, and cranberry juice.
2. Add large cubes of ice, cover the shaker, and shake vigorously 10–12 seconds. Shaking not only chills and dilutes the drink but it also tames the acidity of the lime juice a little bit.
3. Fill a double rocks glass 2⁄3 full with ice cubes. 4. Strain the mixture into the glass.
5. Top with ginger beer.
6. Garnish with lime wheel and cocktail cherry. For an extra flair, create a citrus flag garnish. A citrus flag is a citrus wheel wrapped around a cherry, pierced with a cocktail pick.
Mocktail twist: You can substitute the ginger beer with ginger ale for a more subtle flavor. Tonic water can also be used as a substitute for a slightly bitter flavor.
Tumblr media
This Jack Frost mocktail uses a blue curacao syrup that doesn’t contain alcohol.
Jack Frost
The headnote says, “You probably have seen a blue cocktail at least once in your life. This blue color usually comes from blue curaçao liqueur, which is a sweet and citrusy spirit. This mocktail uses a blue curaçao syrup that doesn’t contain alcohol. Only a little bit of the blue syrup is used to give it a very light blue color. For a lower-calorie option, you can also substitute the lemon-lime soda with a zero-sugar version.”
Serves 2
Ingredients:
2 ounces tequila alternative
1 ounce nonalcoholic blue curaçao syrup
2 ounces Low-Calorie Lemonade (see recipe in Chapter 1)
3 ounces lemon-lime soda
1 cup regular ice cubes
1 tablespoon granulated sugar for glass rim
1 teaspoon Simple Syrup (see recipe in Chapter 1) for glass rim
Directions:
1. Place two coupe glasses in the freezer, allowing them to chill as you prepare the mocktail.
2. In a blender, add tequila alternative, blue curaçao syrup, lemonade, and lemon-lime soda.
3. Add in ice. Cover and blend until smooth.
4. Place sugar on a small plate. Place Simple Syrup on a separate small plate. Take coupe glasses out of the freezer. Wet the rim of each glass by dipping it in Simple Syrup. Then dip the wet part into sugar.
5. Pour blended drink into the chilled, sugar-rimmed coupe glasses.
Mocktail twist: The rise of blue cocktails is fairly recent. They gained popularity during the latter half of the twentieth century. Blue curaçao is typically used in cocktails and mocktails with citrus or tropical flavors.
Tumblr media
This Highland Mule mocktail version of the Moscow mule uses a whiskey alternative as the base spirit, which adds depth to the drink while incorporating notes of oak and vanilla.
Highland Mule
The headnote says: “This mocktail version of the Moscow mule uses a whiskey alternative as the base spirit, which adds depth to the drink while incorporating notes of oak and vanilla. Another key ingredient in any mule is the ginger beer, so it is important to select a good quality ginger beer for this drink. It is best to serve this drink in a copper mug; however, if one is not available, a highball glass will work.”
Serves 1
Ingredients:
2 ounces whiskey alternative
½ ounce lime juice
4 ounces ginger beer
1 dehydrated lime wheel and 2–3 mint sprigs for garnish
Directions:
1. In a copper mug or highball glass, add whiskey alternative and lime juice.
2. Top it off with ginger beer and give it a light stir.
3. Fill the mug or glass with crushed ice using a scoop or a spoon and garnish it by resting lime wheel on the glass rim. Lastly, create a mint bouquet by twisting together mint sprigs. Give mint a light slap on the palm of your hand, and place it on top of the drink.
Mocktail twist: There are many variations of the popular Moscow Mule. They can be made by switching the traditional base spirit (vodka) with a different spirit. The possibilities are many: Jamaican mule (spiced rum), Mexican mule (tequila), London mule (gin), the list goes on. If you prefer a more subtle ginger flavor, ginger ale can be used in place of ginger beer. There are also light ginger beer options for a lower-calorie version of this drink.

Sunday’s Finest Gold Fashioned ABV: 40%
Saffron sets this cocktail apart from the rest, imparting a bright yellow color and vibrant aroma. Expect a whiskey-forward tipple with a streak of freshness and a hint of spice.
Dashfire Old Fashioned ABV: 38%
Don’t be fooled by its size: This mini can is bursting with energizing flavors. Candied orange and aromatic bitters hit the nose, followed by a spirit-forward flavor on the palate. It is best chilled in the fridge and poured in an Old Fashioned glass expressed with orange oil.

With all the body and aroma we seek in the classic cocktail, this whiskey-forward offering has a nice hint of spice to complement the strong flavors of Angostura bitters and orange.
Hochstadter’s Slow & Low Rock and Rye ABV: 42%
Hochstater’s has been making its whiskey RTDs since 2008 — long before the recent trend emerged. The old-school brand impressed our panel with sweet notes of rock candy offset by the prickliness of aromatic bitters. Spirit-forward with hints of baking spices and orange expression, this is a whiskey lover’s RTD.
Livewire Alley Cat Old Fashioned ABV: 39%
Created by bartending legend Chris Patino, this Old Fashioned riff has all the classic aromas you’d expect from the classic cocktail, followed by the welcoming tastes of cherry, apple brandy, and vanilla bean. With the viscous texture of a Gold Rush and the orange spice of the Old Fashioned, this cocktail is tantalizing from the first whiff. Christmas-y aromas of pine, gingerbread, and baking spices are complemented by comforting chamomile and honey. Less boozy than many of its competitors, this cocktail invites a second (and third) sip.
Jim Beam Citrus Highball ABV: 5%
Dry yet refreshing on palate, this canned offering is balanced and effervescent, with a nice depth of flavor and texture. Aromas of lemon and honeysuckle are followed by a hint of bourbon’s oaky sweetness. And at just 5 percent ABV, this highball would be a great swap for hard seltzer or beer.
Bully Boy Distillers Old Fashioned ABV: 37%
Orange defines both the color and flavor of this Old Fashioned. Along with seasonal smells of Christmas tree pine needles and tastes of caramel candy, this tipple has some distinctive characteristics that set it apart while still maintaining all the classic elements that make an Old Fashioned an Old Fashioned.
Golden Rule Old Fashioned ABV: 39.5%
Another small can with big flavor, Golden Rule’s Old Fashioned is intensely fruity on the nose, with smells of candied orange and cloves. Though the cocktail is made with bourbon, it has a peppery spice reminiscent of rye whiskey. Herbaceous and boozy, this Old Fashioned is packed with vibrant flavor and character.
High West Distillery Old Fashioned ABV: 43%
The quality of High West’s whiskey shines through in this cocktail. The barrel-aged, pre-batched cocktail is made with both bourbon and rye — both of which come through on the palate with sweet and prickly notes, respectively. For whiskey geeks who pride themselves on the quality of the spirits in their cocktails, this is a great choice.
Jack Daniel’s Tennessee Honey & Lemonade ABV: 7%
Crowd-pleasing and crushable, this RTD has a balanced sweetness on the nose. It’s sweet without being cloying, with the tartness of lemonade pairing beautifully with Jack Daniel’s vanilla and brown sugar notes. The resulting beverage is not very complex, but it would be great to have on hand for a fall tailgate or picnic.
Fishers Island Lemonade ABV: 9%
For those newer to whiskey or who prefer a sweeter profile, this boozy lemonade is a great place to start. It is made with both whiskey and vodka, with smells of rock candy, fresh lemon, and a slight hint of peppermint. Though there’s not much whiskey flavor present on the nose or palate, it’s a bright, flavorful drink that’s sure to refresh on hot, humid days.
Crown Royal Washington Apple ABV: 7%
Its bright red color may give this RTD an artificial feel, but on the palate, it tastes like fresh apple juice with just a hint of sweetness. It benefits from the texture gained from carbonation, creating an inviting mouthfeel. It’s by no means whiskey-forward, but it’s a playful drink ideal for sipping with friends at outdoor gatherings.

The Stock Market Is On The Verge Of A Monster Rally
New Post has been published on https://perfectirishgifts.com/the-stock-market-is-on-the-verge-of-a-monster-rally/
The Stock Market Is On The Verge Of A Monster Rally
Stock market and Covid
The party is on.
Last month, investors shoved a record $115 billion into the stock market through funds—the biggest inflow in 20 years. And spirits are lifting by the day.
As vaccine wins keep giving, Wall Street strategists are scrambling to raise their price targets for 2021. Most see stocks roaring double digits from today’s highs next year.
At the same time, a number of legendary investors are ringing alarm bells. “Market sentiment is at dot-com-bubble euphoria levels,” renowned hedge fund manager Peter Boockvar warns.
So I’ve decided to do a two-part series taking both sides of the argument. First, we’ll talk about everything that’s looking up, and then I’ll go over what could go possibly wrong.
This week, I’ll dust off my bull hat, pop on rosy glasses, and see what could launch the stock market into the “monster rally” that the biggest bulls are predicting.
The Fed will keep rates at rock-bottom lows for years
In April, the Fed slashed its rates down to near 0% and pledged to keep them there until at least 2023—even if inflation crests over their 2% target.
This has unleashed a number of bullish forces that may work their magic as long as rates stay low.
For starters, zero rates have made stocks more attractive against bonds because bonds don’t yield that much anymore. In its latest memo to clients, one of the world’s most famous hedge fund managers, Howard Marks, wrote:
“The lower the fed funds rate is, the lower bond yields will be, meaning outstanding bonds with higher interest rates will appreciate. And lower yields on bonds means they offer less competition to stocks, so stocks don’t have to be cheap to attract buying.”
Here’s what this chain reaction looks like:
Infographic: the effects of low rates on the stock market
Lower yields have also forced investors to take on more risk and pile into junk bonds. As I wrote in Meanwhile in Markets last month, the inflows into the world’s biggest junk bond ETF hit an all-time record during Covid.
That means low rates aren’t only making stocks more attractive. They are also letting the most vulnerable businesses borrow boatloads of money for cheap and stay afloat for longer than they otherwise could.
“A growth bomb”: 3.5$ trillion of excess cash on the sidelines
Some Wall Street strategists call it a “growth bomb”—a $3.5 trillion pile of money people and businesses are holding as a safety net.
Take a look at this chart which shows a record stash of cash that Americans are keeping in their bank accounts:
$1.5 trillion in excess savings could flood the stock market with money
Even without extra stimulus, people have hoarded more than $1.5 trillion in excess savings compared to pre-Covid levels. And it’s not just the rich.
Savings have grown across all income ranges, including the bottom 50% working-class families:
The Fed’s distributional financial accounts from Q2 2019 to Q2 2020
“The consumer here in the U.S. is relatively stable and, honestly, somewhat relatively better than we might have feared back in the height of the pandemic in the second quarter of 2020,” Marianne Lake, JPMorgan’s JPM chief executive officer for consumer lending, told Bloomberg.
Companies aren’t short on cash either. As uncertainty still looms, S&P 500 companies are holding a record $2.1 trillion in cash, according to Moody’s MCO . That’s 30% more than last year.
Now bulls argue that all you need is an “everything will be fine” pat on the back for this $3.5 trillion safety net to rush into the economy and set off a growth bomb.
Pent-up demand will unleash a production boom
You’ve probably seen what’s going on with real estate. In one of history’s hottest housing markets, houses are going for 20-30% over ask. And get this, $500,000 properties are selling off over Facebook live videos.
There are many reasons for this housing craze. But probably the two biggest catalysts are the pent-up demand from the spring and the lowest inventory of houses on record. In other words, too many people want to buy a house at the same time, and there are too few houses for sale.
Now, a similar thing could happen across many industries when things get back to normal.
People will want to get on planes and go places. They’ll want to sip margaritas on cruise ships. After months of wearing pajamas and sweatshirts, they’ll want to dress up and treat themselves to nice things. And they’ll be dying to do all these things all at once.
Meanwhile, uncertainty has led companies to stay very lean and keep their inventories to a bare minimum. “Relative to the level of economic activity, U.S. inventories are the leanest ever! How about that?” James Paulsen, Chief Investment Strategist of the Leuthold Group, told Bloomberg.
Here’s a chart that shows U.S. business inventories relative to GDP:
US business inventories to GDP
If people loosen up their belts as analysts expect, factories will have to ramp up production to fill those empty shelves. That means more jobs, more spending, and more investment from companies. A three pointer for bulls.
Inflation could prop up asset prices
Last, so much money printing and lending by central banks might rush in a period of inflation.
But this extra money might not trickle down to show up in the price of meat patties or eggs. Instead, it could translate to higher asset prices—just as it did after 2008.
In a recent Q&A session on Reddit, billionaire investor Ray Dalio warned investors about the “flood of money and credit” and argued that asset prices will hold up against devaluing money. He wrote:
“Assets will not decline when measured in the depreciating value of money… I believe that with the enormous amounts of debt and money that has been created and will be created in the future, the most important thing to pay attention to is the value of debt and money relative to the value of assets and other currencies.”
For this reason, the legendary hedge fund manager sees no reason why stocks couldn’t trade at higher valuations.
But what if…
If all this came to pass and Covid blew over as if nothing happened, the stock market might indeed be in for a monstrous rally. Problem is, these are cherry-picked data and quotes that support just one side of the argument.
In fact, there are just as many forces—most of them probably largely unknown—that could put a spoke in the market’s wheels and send it to a screeching halt.
Next week, I’ll take off my rosy glasses and look at three under-the-radar forces that could weigh down the market. Stay tuned.

We Asked 10 Beer Pros: What’s the Best Hard Seltzer Right Now?
Tumblr media
As we recently discussed on our podcast, the hugely successful hard seltzer category is rapidly evolving. One impetus of that development is the growing number of small and regional brewers entering the remunerative space, which is dominated by big brands such as White Claw (Mark Anthony Brands) and Truly (Boston Beer). (Incidentally, these brands are increasingly cutting into beer’s market share.)
Craft brewing companies across the country are producing their own takes on the fizzy, low-calorie alcoholic beverage, often with creative and interesting results. Evil Twin Brewing in Ridgewood, Queens, showcases nostalgic flavors such as gummy bears, cola, and rainbow sherbet in its line of pastry-style spiked seltzers, Evil Water. Atlanta’s SweetWater Brewing, meanwhile, turns to terpenes, the compounds that give some marijuana strains their distinct aromas, to fragrance its Hydroponics hard seltzers.
It’s no surprise craft brewers would beget innovations in the spiked-seltzer segment, even as the tidal trend threatens their core business. With that, VinePair decided it was time to pose the question to brewers and brewery staff members across the country: What’s the best hard seltzer out there right now? Are you bubbling with anticipation for their picks? Let’s get to it!
The Best Hard Seltzers Recommended By Beer Pros:
Wild Basin Hard Seltzers by Oskar Blues
Vibez Hard Seltzers by Aslin Beer Company
Brewery X’s Cocktail-Inspired Hard Seltzers
Untitled Art’s Florida Seltzers
Truly Hard Seltzer
MIA Brewing’s HRD WTR
3 Daughters Brewing’s Hard Seltzers
Evil Twin’s Evil Water
Keep reading for details about all of the recommended hard seltzers!
“Wild Basin, which Oskar Blues puts out. The flavors are top notch, and aren’t oversaturated with extracts.” —James Carlyle, Head Brewer, Ingenious Brewing Company, Humble, Texas
“I enjoy all six flavors of the Vibez line by Aslin Beer Company in Alexandria, Va., but the mango lime ginger is my go-to. The flavor combination works well without tasting artificial, and the carbonation is just right. Plus, I’m a sucker for ginger. It’s hard to find a good craft seltzer that doesn’t taste like a kettle sour gone bad, in my opinion, so I commend those that can do so!” —Lindsay Trigoboff, Brewer, Bond Brothers Beer Company, Cary, N.C.
“Anaheim’s Brewery X usually offers around four hard seltzers, and some of them are even cocktail-inspired, like Mai Tai and Margarita, which is smart. I truly (see what I did there?) never thought I would like a hard seltzer or be the person to brew one, but the kiwi passionfruit changed that for me, with its bold flavors and dry finish. Your friends will want to claw (did it again!) at one if you show up with these at a party!” —Jess Mitchell, Assistant Brewer, Refuge Brewery, Temecula, Calif.
“I can be one of those old sticks in the mud. I was vocal about not drinking or producing hard seltzers. I felt, like many, it was signaling an unwelcome change in the industry. Now, I admit I drink my weight weekly in a mix of Topo Chico and La Croix, so I have long enjoyed carbonated water. I came to realize that hard seltzers aren’t so different from fruited sours, hazy IPAs, pastry stouts, or ‘insert popular new beer style’ upon its initial rise. It’s all a matter of perspective, and bucking tradition. I was at The Whale bar in Asheville, and my buddy came over with this fizzy little glass and said not to say anything, to just try it. I instantly knew it was a hard seltzer, and could no longer deny the deliciousness. The bubbly drink happened to be from Untitled Art’s Florida Seltzer line, guava and prickly pear. Now it’s got me thinking, maybe we should go hard seltzer.“ —Todd DiMatteo, Co-owner and brewer, Good Word Brewing & Public House, Duluth, Ga.
“I like hard seltzer because it’s a great, light-bodied alternative to beer and cider. What I look for generally is one that’s mildly flavored, not overwhelmingly sweet. Truly’s orange flavor hits that mark, and it’s even more refreshing on tap.” —Mariquita Reese, Brewer, Sloop Brewing Co., East Fishkill, N.Y.
“It was probably late 2015 when I was handed my first hard seltzer from MIA Brewing. They had just rolled out HRD WTR in a number of different flavors, and if I remember correctly, in crowlers too. But I’ll never forget my first pint of the cucumber. I remember thinking to myself, ‘this is going to explode within the industry.’” —Taylor Pogue, Social Media Director, Calusa Brewing, Sarasota, Fla.
“I buy Truly. I find myself rotating between the lemonade and berry mix packs most often. If I’m picking an outright favorite flavor, I’m going with blueberry and açaí, but a friend turned me on to mixing the lemonade flavors 50/50 with Twisted Tea, and I’m willing to admit that’s a damn fine pool beverage. I’ll also drop some fresh lime juice and cilantro into the lime Truly. So good! We also recently released a line of Contact High hard seltzers in blueberry lemonade, pineapple, and tangerine flavors, and of those, the pineapple is my favorite.” —Jeremy Danner, On-premise Specialist and Brand Ambassador, 4 Hands Brewing Company, St. Louis
“I’m a self-described ‘sparkle head,’ and I think the hard seltzer that sold me was HRD WTR from MIA Beer Company. A great friend of mine brought some back from Miami after a trip, handed me a can of the pineapple coconut flavor, and I was hooked. It was like a much more enjoyable Piña Colada Slurpee: clean, refreshing, and effervescent. It’s such an enjoyable drink, I crave it. Unfortunately for me, it’s not available in California, but it did serve as the inspiration for our own THINGS Piña Colada seltzer.” —Eric Silva, Director of Sales and Distribution, Brouwerij West and THINGS … For Your Head, San Pedro, Calif.
“The hard seltzers from 3 Daughters Brewing in St. Petersburg, Fla., are a little different from the others I’ve experienced from larger companies. I didn’t think the profile was as neutral-tasting, which I actually liked.” —Derek Howard, Co-owner and Pizza Czar, Bad Dad Brewing Co., Fairmount, Ind.
“I have to give a huge shout-out to Evil Twin’s Evil Water for pushing us to do our own hard seltzer, Turbøwater, specifically after trying the marshmallow Piña Colada, made in collaboration with 8th State. We’ve always been about that tropical stee-lø at Hoof. We had been up until that point nonplussed on the entire hard seltzer arena, but Jeppe [Jarnit-Bjergsø, founder of Evil Twin Brewing and Evil Water] has brought his creativity into the game and nailed it. Frooty and Rich AF, yet still water. Mind blown.” —Blake Volk, Brewer, Hoof Hearted Brewing, Marengo, Ohio

Looking for a way to add a little style to your living room? One trend that I’m loving right now is creating a chic bar cart that works as both a decorating and entertaining piece. If you aren’t sure where to begin when it comes to stylizing a bar cart, I’m here to help. Take a look at this infographic below and learn how to style a bar cart with ease. BONUS: All the wine and liquor options displayed here give back to charitable causes, so you can enjoy sipping it forward in style!
Tumblr media
What You’ll Need
–Bar Cart: Amazon has some great options!
–Flutes + Glassware: Checkout these Handmade Mexican Artisan glassware
–Floral Elements: Plants are always a fun addition!
–Shaker + Barware: choose from silver, brass, copper, or wood to match your cart
–ONEHOPE Wine: mix and match your favorite varietals
–Liquor Assortment: we selected 3 brands that all give back to nonprofits
–Letter Board: Amazon has a wide variety to choose from
–Artwork: Not necessary but definitely an added bonus to complete the look! Check out this Llama!
Bar Cart Styling Tips
Find the space: First thing you’ll need to do is find a space for your bar cart and take some measurements. There are a number of shapes, sizes, and materials to choose from when it comes to selecting a bar cart, so once you find the ideal place in your living or dining room, you can purchase the cart of your dreams.
Tumblr media
Buy the pieces: Now that you’ve purchased your bar cart, it’s time to buy the materials to style it! If you don’t already have the glassware, cocktail shaker/kit, letterboard, and vase, we recommend shopping around for some options online or in store! If you can, try and purchase from other like-minded companies that give back. For example, the glass pitcher you see above is from The Little Market, where this purchase supported female artisans at Chabi Chic in Morocco. For less expensive accessories, shop for the pieces you need at Target, Amazon, HomeGoods, Marshalls, or Ross. You’ll be surprised at how much you can find at a reasonable price!
Choose a fun phrase for your letter board: We recommend going with an eye-catching pun or quote that your friends will love. A few options to choose from are: “Everything happens for a Riesling,” “Wine is my spirit animal,” “Does running out of wine count as cardio?,” “Let the evening be gin,” “When life gives you limes, make a margarita,” “Sip sip hooray!”
Tumblr media
Select your wines that make an impact: To purchase your ONEHOPE Wine, shop online and buy a few of your favorite bottles that can add a pop of color and variety to your cart. Choose from our mini sparkling wine bottles, our famous glitter bottles, rosés, whites, or reds to add to your bar cart.
Find liquor bottles that give back: For our stylized bar cart, we selected 3 alcohol brands that all give back to nonprofits. The bottles we chose include Absolut Elyx Vodka which provides clean drinking water through the nonprofit Water for People, Bacardi Oakheart Spiced Rum which supports Bacardi’s Disaster Relief Fund, and VIVA XXXII Tequila which donates to organizations that prevent animal abuse.
Tumblr media
Organize your accessories: When it comes to styling a bar cart, I always say less is more. Don’t over complicate your cart with too many liquor bottles or barware accessories. Try placing taller bottles and accessories in the back to create some dimension, and aim for a few inches of space between each item or grouping of accessories.
Next, play around with placement, but I suggest keeping items that go together close by. For example, on the first level of my cart, I included floral/living elements, wine bottles, and some fun glassware including a colored pitcher and champagne flutes to complete the top. On the second level of my cart, I added 3 liquor bottles, moscow mule mugs, a shaker and muddler, and some bottled simple syrups with the letter board in the center. I kept all of my wine accessories on the top, and my cocktail accessories on the bottom.
Show Me Your Bar Cart on Social!
Ready to get stylin’? Once your bar cart is all set up, snap a picture and share it with me on social by tagging #SippingItForward for a chance to be featured on my page! I can’t wait to see how you’ve styled your bar cart that gives back!

Add a Twist of Floral to Your Cocktail: Flower-Infused Drinks
Flower-infused drinks have been around for centuries, but they’re enjoying new popularity today!
Over the last couple years you may have seen flower-infused drinks popping up more frequently at bars and restaurants, and on television, social media and more. Flowers like rose, lavender, hibiscus, and daisy are leaving their mark on the shelves, but is this beneficial for florists?
With Spring just now arriving, why not learn how to floral infuse not only food but beverages as well!
Floral Drinks—Is it Possible?
Infusing floral notes into any beverage can be a simple process depending on the method you choose. Not only can you infuse flowers into drinks, but florals can use them as garnishes or rim dressing on glasses.
Oils that give flowers, herbs, and spices their aroma, flavor, and other beneficial properties, are soluble in alcoholic spirits, which makes them the perfect mix-ins for a cocktail that is functional and gives you that artistic feeling!
  Flowers With Flavor
So what edible flowers give the best flavor, and which edible flowers pair with what? Think of it as an experiment! There are some tried-and-true floral infusers that work well, and a some that don’t pair well. You just have to try and taste. You may prefer some floral infusers over others.
(Make sure when selecting flowers that you choose flowers that have not had any chemicals or pesticides used, or were growing in a pet “potty” area!)

How to Make a Floral Simple Syrup
Simple syrups are the best way to sweeten a drink. Use the basic 2-to-1 ratio of sugar to water, heated to a brief boil in order to dissolve the sugar. You can add any edible dried flower, herb or spice into the simmering syrup to extract flavor and aroma your cocktail.
An example of a floral simple syrup:
Violet Simple Syrup
2 Cups of Sugar
1 Cup of Water
1 1/2 Cups of Violets
Dissolve sugar in water over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until it reaches a simmer.
Place flowers in a nonreactive bowl (glass, enamel, or stainless steel).
Pour hot syrup over top and let stand for at least 30 minutes.
Strain mixture and discard flowers.
Simple syrups can be stored in the fridge for 1 or 2 months. If it begins to crystallize, simply heat it again until smooth.
Out With the Water, In With Tea
Some drink recipes call for a water mixer. For water, mixer tries substituting the recipe with a tea-infused flower, herb or spice of your choosing and that best fits the drink you are making.
Want to stock up for a warm day—amaze your friends, family, co-workers and more by freezing some of your floral-infused drink in an ice cube tray.
  Flower It Up!
Many of you have seen the sugar or salt-based garnish on the rim of a cocktail glass at restaurants and parties. This garnish is called a “rimmer” and it provides a sweet or savory garnish to enhance the taste of the cocktail.
Add a bit of crumbled or powdered edible flowers, herbs and spices that work well with your cocktail to your glass to give your drink even more artistic appeal and additional flavor
An example of a floral rimmer:
Frozen Hibiscus Margaritas
1 cup water
2 tsp dried hibiscus flowers
1 vanilla bean, split
½ cup sugar
Zest and juice of 3 limes
Juice of 1 orange
½ cup tequila
Place hibiscus flowers and vanilla bean in a saucepan with the cup of water and bring to a boil. After water is boiling, remove from heat, cover, and let sit for 20 minutes.
Strain mixture to remove hibiscus flowers and vanilla bean. Add mixture back to pan and add sugar.
Simmer for about 5 minutes until sugar is dissolved. Remove from heat and add lime zest, lime juice, orange juice, and tequila. Chill the mixture until it has cooled completely.
Once the mixture is cool, pour over ice in a rimmed margarita glass (or freeze and eat as a sorbet)!
Use zest of lime, hibiscus flowers, and salt to rim the glass.
How Can Florists Tap Into This?
So can florists really tap into this trend? It all depends on your source of flowers. Reach out to your wholesaler or flower market to see what flowers have not had chemicals or pesticides sprayed on them. These flowers can be used or sold for infusing with beverages, food, and decorating.
Also, remember the 2019 unexpected trend of dried flowers we discussed last month? Well, this is another way to incorporate edible dried flowers in your business.
So why not tap into this additional revenue source? If the resources are there, this could be a great tactic is working with local restaurants, bakeries, bars, and more to offer edible flowers whether it be drinks or food. This is a great marketing tactic and gives those businesses a source to come to your business to purchase flowers and increasing your business sales.
