scent of the day: ganymede (marc-antoine barrois)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
we've all seen the post about ganymede, of course i had to test it for scent of the day.
i agree that this smells like money. not as in luxury, but as in actual bills that have been folded inside a leather wallet for a while, plus the metallic, almost-fizzy zing of coins. a bit like rubber, too. feels like a hi-tech sci-fi prosthesis grafted onto a much more standard herbal-aquatic cologne; i definitely get the osmanthus, woods and mandarin more and more as the scent unfolds. a reviewer on fragrantica said it smells a bit like a freshly printed glossy magazine, and weirdly enough, it does.
when it first went onto my skin i was immediately skeptical; mineral/metallic notes are usually scrubbers for me. i gave it a chance, though, and it mellowed out enough for me to wear, though i knew from the get-go this was never going to be a favourite. i was merely intrigued by all the hyperbolic reviews it got, and i agree it's an odd little fragrance. it has projection and longevity in spades, so whether or not you like it, you and everyone nearby will be smelling it. worth it if you like more masculine scents and want to feel like a character in an aasimov novel. the more i smell it, the more i get it.

Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede extrait Review - Quentin Bisch; 2023
Everybody, watch out -- the Ganymede extrait is here! #perfume
[Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede extrait review based on a sample provided by the brand in 2023.] Just when you thought it was safe to come out of hiding, Marc-Antoine Barrois gives us an extrait version of his monolithic (and wildly successful) Ganymede from 2019. Here’s a link to my recent YouTube review of it: Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede extrait review. (more…) “”

More perfume recs? Esp that vanilla one if u okay w that?
Which vanilla one? I used to wear the kayali one but then it ended up making me incredibly nauseous whenever I wore it with anything (usually I layered it) so I gifted it away. Im more interested in moving towards more complex fragrances from smaller houses right now anyways
For an interesting vanilla, I LOVE Memoirs of a Trespasser from Imaginary Authors.
heres my fragrantica, if you're interested.
My personal signatures are mostly Every Storm a Serenade by Imaginary Authors and La Fin Du Monde by eldo as well as ganymede by marc antoine barrois. I LOVE almost everything La Curie puts out though, HIGHLY recommend their sampler set. I also frequently wear a plum/vanilla scent from a small house called Oliver and Moon that @cool-sepulchre gifted me and I adore it.

If you can have your own signature fragrances, what would they be?
This is really a seasonal question. In late summer, I've been favoring Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede. The B683 has a drier wood scent for the encroaching fall.

That one Tumblr post that claims that Ganymede (Marc-Antoine Barrois) smells like robots... Is wrong. Completely. I got a sample because I remembered that post from yeeeeaaaaars ago, but quite honestly, on my skin? It smells like Lemon Pledge on rubber gloves. It does deliver on notions of "cold" or "sterile", but it certainly is not "otherworldly" or "robotic" in the slightest.

To talk about lrb a little bit, I actually like ganymede about as much as another scent by the same producer (marc-antoine barrois) encelade ❤️ smells like if a robot got into wearing musky leather, it's kinda woody and VERY intense. Wore it when I saw the fnaf movie and accidentally pavlov'd myself and I thought of fnaf every time I used it LOL. Ganymede is definitely more of a greyed scent but I wish that it was stronger and a bit more plasticy? Maybe more middle notes of aldehydes.. IDK I don't make perfume and I still enjoyy it

i think the next full bottle im gonna buy for my boyfriend is Marc-Antoine Barrois Ganymede. maybe as a valentine's day present. he's been wearing my sample and it smells soooo good on him like he went to the beach and rolled around in a bunch of sand and then got into the leather backseat of a swelteringly hot car. a car fresh from the dealership with plastic wrap still on the seatbelts. when he takes off his shirt and asks me to spray it on his shoulderblades i'm like. heart eyes...

Finding A Simple Happiness - An Interview With Marc-Antoine Barrois On The Launch Of Tilia
An interview with Marc-Antoine Barrois about the launch of Tilia, working with Quentin Bisch and how he feels the perfume industry should be helping the world.
— There are two people Quentin Bisch loves to work with. I hope he loves to work with me. And he has great admiration for Renaud Salmon [of Amouage]. The lucky thing is that we have two DNAs that are super-different. For example, Guidance is not a Marc-Antoine Barrois perfume. It’s a perfect Amouage perfume. I trust Quentin completely and I ask him to make fragrances for me that we will both be…

So these are my 3 perfume samples I got from LuckyScent dot com
We have Unum Lavs, the universal cathedral incense (frankincense) smell very deep and wet and perfumy and idk sacred
Then we have Ganymede by Marc-Antoine Barrois my favorite fucking thing I’ve ever smelled it smells like the most lovely flowers with the smell of a room of old computers from the 90s overheating. I want to smell like this permanently for the rest of my life
Then we have the famous Female Christ. What can I say about this one. It’s mostly patchouli, very hippie smell very 70s i guess?. Actually a little underwhelming someone online said it’s like a rotting Roman church which is the words that made me buy it. Doesn’t smell like that at all. But it’s very nice
Well that concludes my post about my awesome perfume samples I bought from LuckyScent dot com. Thank you for reading. Explore perfumes!

Behold! The tragicomedy of being a perfume lover.
Below are my top two favorite men’s fragrances: Ganymede by Marc-Antoine Barrois and Black is Black by Nuparfums.
Tumblr media
My bottle of Ganymede was $270 (before tax). I discovered it via a tailored search of my favorite notes, bought a sample, and spent a couple of weeks wearing it in various environments and contemplating before I decided it was well worth the money. I’m paying for it in installments and, by all appearances, will be doing so for at least the next seven months.
I found Black is Black in the men’s clearance at TJ Maxx and only saw it because it was right next to the bathrooms. Someone had ripped the box open so I sniffed it and instantly fell in love. It was $10, but since the box was damaged and an employee verified it had been damaged before I ever entered the store, I got it for $7.
I would, in fact, consider my love for them equal.
