notes: pear, almond milk, frankincense; osmanthus, rose, saffron, jasmine; sandalwood, vanilla, akigalawood, ambergris, labdanum

For all I’ve heard about Amouage having gone downhill in recent years, Guidance is a new release and goddamnit I like it.

After a few minutes of a realistic green pear, Guidance is a a creamy, tender, girly rose with almond milk, in warm pastel shades like the inside of a seashell. It wafts up in great breathy waves of coral pink.

Over time it gradually shifts to being more dominated by a lightly sweetened, warm vanilla “sandalwood” — yes, synthetic, but in a good way. The creamy-woody base feels substantial and satisfying and provides a reassuring counterbalance to the pink florals.

Venus in a bottle. This one��s a winner.

Chloe Nomade is a sophisticated, distinctive chypre perfume with dominant notes of mirabelle, oakmoss, sandalwood, and white musk. Perfect for any season or environment. Nomade lasts all day, and is the perfect balance between strong and subtle. Worthy of being a signature scent.

The perfume opens with a burst of citrus, which transitions to classic white florals. Over time, the oakmoss and patchouli become more present, but never overpowering, giving it a subtle earthy scent. A hint of peach stays with you the whole time, but it never eclipses the floral bouquet. White musk and sandalwood round out the notes perfectly, giving it a well blended scent that melts into the skin.

Nomade is a relatively strong perfume, but not a beast, and does not require more than 3 sprays.

è un ricordo infantile, é polvere di stelle in una notte blu velluto, è uno sguardo di contemplazione e stupore, un messaggio subliminale nel mistero della bellezza.

Così Thibaud Crivelli si è lasciato incantare e sorprendere da questo fiore, lontano dal suo immaginario eppure così prepotentemente presente nella memoria.

Un frammento mnemonico così vivido e impaziente da ispirare il suo ultimo Extrait de Parfum, composto in collaborazione col master perfumer Quentin Bisch, in cui la tuberosa si staglia, come stella di Ursa Major, nell’oscurità della volta celeste attirando a sé un pulviscolo crepitante di aromi armoniosi.

Avvincente l’apertura con l’inesorabile appagamento sensoriale della vaniglia qui ritoccata in audacia da una sottile incisione di cumino.

Ed ecco, in maestoso splendore, i protagonisti: la tuberosa (indiana orpur) con le sue sfumature lattiginose soffici di crema e miele, la vertigine fruttata dell’osmanto (cinese orpur) e l’olio essenziale di seme di carota che sigilla in longevità gli accenti poudré e la delicatezza peachy d’insieme.

Carezzevole il finale, morbido e profondo, sostenuto da un accordo muschi, cuoio, patchouli, cisto, vaniglia, impeccabile nel consentire alla tuberosa di vibrare in ricercatezza senza vanteria, in sensualità senza inganno.

Rabanne Pure XS EDP

[From Fragrantica] Pure XS For Her by Rabanne is an exotic, oriental floral fragrance by Quentin Bisch from 2018. Notes include; Popcorn, Vanilla, Ylang-Ylang, Coconut, Peach, Orange Blossom, White Musk, Amberwood, Ambrette (Musk Mallow) and Sandalwood.

As varied as those notes are, you do get a little bit of everything throughout it's wear. It's sweet, powdery and fruity/floral. The popcorn note I do detect, it's not a salty popcorn, it's sweet, but not sticky. There's something very alluring about this fragrance and it makes me feel very put-together (which couldn't be further from the truth right now).

The bottle goes from black at the top, fading to pink. The gold snake winding it's way around the neck of the bottle is obviously why I chose it today and it's beautifully executed. It reminds me of vintage snake arm cuffs and belts where the head would clip or thread through the tail. I really enjoyed wearing this today and it's the first time I've picked it up in a long time.

Nose: Quentin Bisch

notes: geosmin, pepperwood, rose, ambroxan, patchouli, musk, Petalia, black pepper, frankincense, black currant leaf, Calypsone, galbanum

Hermann starts off sharp green and silvery, an elegant classic masculine scent with a modern-synthetic edge.

Almost immediately I can feel darker things underneath — dry incense, a veil of black pepper, and some subtle woody-amber shenanigans.

Does it smell like the advertised geosmin, the scent of wet earth after rain? Not really. Wet concrete? Maybe. Moody gray masc-coded aromachemicals, shot through with threads of silver? Yes.

Hermann is a lot like the Geza Schoen scents (rainy green leaves seen through tinted glass, synthetic minimalism with a vegetal touch) except it’s more mainstream, more like a traditional masculine scent. It’s sheer, it’s refreshing in summer, it smells crisp and clean yet moody as a July thunderstorm.

Somehow it makes me think of a Men in Black-style “secret agent” investigating UFOs — normie straitlaced masculinity, face to face with the cold uncanny.
