Lemme just rant about the Book of Life for a bit

So

I recently watched it in English because we watched it in my Spanish class (I didn't have the privilege of watching it during childhood) and I like it a lot. Some of the reasons I like it are:

Literally everything about Joaquin

The ending and the way the movie ended the love triangle plot. Instead of villainizing the one character, there wasn't anything wrong with Joaquin, María was just more romantically attracted to Manolo. They hardly even fought over her and stayed friends the whole time.

The part of the plot about Manolo refusing to kill a bull, and how that impresses María because of her love for animals

Maria's character design is hilariously absurd and so are a bunch of the other ones

Creep by Radiohead out of absolutely nowhere caught me 100 percent off guard

Manolo erupting from the ground in a pillar of light was absolutely hilarious for no reason

"I love how she does this!" "I love how she does that!" "Ohh, she performs so well, how is she only a corp?"

Like she needed reminding of why she never tired to move up. Of Why she tried to make herself seem stupid and weak...but every single time she went into battle-she was reminded.

"Maria's one of the best-i recommend-" but she wasn't listening anymore. This is why she and Alejandro never saw eye to eye-he tired to convince her to let him write to the General to move her up-she always said no. She didn't want to be seen-seeing as she was forced into this life. "Ay, Cállate, Alejandro! I'm not the best of the best and you know this," she said, cutting him off in the middle of this stupid meeting. Alejandro put one eyebrow up-so high it arched in the middle and made him look ever so dangerous. "Delscupme?"

She bit her lower lip and said, "Nada...Nada." "Yo creio que...y, Si has terminado, María..." Maria nodded, and tuned out his voice again. Rudy was going to use her as a toll during this mission and she already knew that-he always did. Rudy was nice, sure, but he had a levrage on Maria no one else did. Her past. She looked at Rudy-and he looked back, smiling. El Pendejo. She forced a smile back at him before looking down at her lap-"Maria! Are you even listening to me, amor?" "Si, si, claro que si." Alejandro hummed before saying, "What did I just say then?" "You said i was to work with Rudy-otra ves-and-" "No. I did not. I said you are to work with el nuevo teniente."

"There's a new one?" Maria asked, quirking a brow up, and crossing her arms over her chest-oh if only she knew the affect she had on him. Alejandro took a deep breath before saying, "Si, there's a new one. Ghost, they call him. You've never met him-but we're changing that...you'll also be working with another sergeant-Soap." Maria held back on hell of a barking laugh. "SOAP? ¿Jabón? they call him that? Why?" "no se, now. If your done talking back, we'll leave to meet your new partners." "Fine, fine..."

Alejandro picked up a file and said, "This is for the-" "I dont want to know, Alejandro. Nor do i want to, Pendejo." Alejandro sighed, "You still mad at me for that?" "Yes i am." "I told you-you succeed that mission, you were moving up whether you liked it or not!" "Yo se! Pero-I told you why i don't want to!" "And I don't care! The forms are sent-long over due-and el general-" "I don't care! No me importa!"

And they walked off in silence. Maria's anger known to all those who saw her-Alejandro's too. "Why are you like this, chica?" "Be-" "Don't give me no sassy response, quagliò." "...im going to kill you, Vargas." "Try it, muchacha. I dare you." "...Vete a la mierda, Alejandro."

"Ghost...is the one with the skull mask, si? ...How do we know he ain't part of el sin nombre's ranks?" Maria asked, eyeing the new Lt. Alejandro sighed. "Laswell recommended him. Same with Price." Maria was still skeptical but she nodded. "Okay..." "Just-go meet him, huh?" "Fine." She walked over to him and said, "Ghost, i take it?" the tall man nodded. "You must be Pistola." "that I am."

"Why do they call you that, eh?" ghost asked, Maria smiled, "Should I show you, Pendejo?" "Ay! That's enough, Mari-Pistola." Maria glared at Rudy and he fixed her name halfway through. "Mari, her name's Mari?" the other one asked, the one with a mohawk. She shook her head. "Dumb nickname they call me," she lied smoothly. "Short for my real name-which you idiotos will not be receiving whatsoever-so don't ask." Alejandro frowned at Maria before raising his eyebrows.

'Play nice.' That's what the look meant. She frowned back before sighing. If that CIA lady said that they could trust these two...No. Should she trust again it would be the end of her world. No, she won't play nice. She'll play cold. She'll play harsh. And she'll play Dirty. She nodded at Alejandro, who was now walking over before looking at the one with a mohawk. "You-Mohawk. You a punk rocker or somethin'?" And he blinked. "Scottish. That's wha' aye am." She hummed. "Scotland, huh? What part?" "That's private." "My bad-just tryna...i dunno, be nice or whatever," she said, shrugging. Soap nodded, "I get it, i doo, just doon't ask my home yeah?" "Yeah-sure."

"Oye, Pistola, ven." "Si, senor."

¿Quién es tu miembro favorito del cuartel? Y el que menos te gusta y por que?

Holiiiiis!!

Mi miembro menos favorito del Cuartel, para posible sorpresa de muchos, es posiblemente Sandra o Bertha. No detesto ninguna de estas dos personajes, porque no detesto a nadie del Cuartel, pero en el caso de Sandra, la encuentro muy aburrida. Su agresividad es con intencion de ser cómica pero no me da risa, por ende, falla para mí. No tengo nada en contra de personajes agresivos (amo a Armando) pero Sandra no es intimidante y sólo trata de dar risa, pero no me causa gracia. Su único chiste era la agresividad y el buscar novio (lo cual al menos pudo ser entretenido o interesante si hubieran hecho algo con eso. Me hubiera encantado ver representación de Mujer Alta x Hombre Chaparrito! Después de todo, ysblf siempre trató de darle visibilidad a los problemas y prejuicios sociales que tienen minorías ignoradas. Pensé incluso la primera vez que la vi, que el dr Sanchez iba a terminar enamorando a Sandra!). Tampoco es muy relevante para el plot, más allá de su contribución cuando lo de Ortiz y luego lo de la bolsa, pero eso de la bolsa y la carta fue un papel que cualquier otro miembro pudo jugar, así que no es gran cosa.

Bertha, por su parte, avanza un poco más el plot porque ella es LA chismosa del Cuartel. Todas lo son, pero ninguna TANTO como Bertha, por ende que sea ella quien le cuenta a Armando todo cae como anillo al dedo. Su único chiste aparte de eso es su evidente trastorno alimenticio, pero fuera de eso, no tiene más contribución, y aunque si es gracioso en ocasiones (ysblf sabe muy bien como hacer reír a los espectadores con temas serios!), eventualmente cansa. También muchas veces se pasa de intrigosa y por eso no me gusta mucho que digamos, pero no me parece tan tediosa como la exagerada agresividad de Sandra.

No odio a ninguna del Cuartel, porque todas tienen sus puntos positivos, y con cada vez que la veo noto cosas que antes no y por eso se ganan un poco más mi simpatía. Aura María, por ejemplo, aunque me desagrade su personalidad chillona, es la mejor amiga de Betty, la alienta a cosas nuevas, y la defiende mucho, y eso me gusta. Sofía es una mujer muy dolida y llena de amargura porque aún sufre la ausencia de su marido a quien aún ama, y por eso esparce tanto veneno, y hoy en día me da más lástima que nada. Así con todas. Claro que me hubiera gustado que le sacaran más provecho a todas, pero dentro de lo que cabe, están bien todas.

Respecto a mi favorita, esa sería Inesita. Aporta una visión más madura y templada a las locuras del Cuartel, pero igualmente está dispuesta a participar en lo que le pidan incluso sin explicacion, como fue cuando lo del Ingeniero Ortiz. También me gusta mucho su dinámica con Hugo, porque Hugo la molesta pero ella también responde en muchas ocasiones. Después de Betty, ella sería la que tiene más "poder" por asi decirlo por el cariño que Hugo le tiene, y sabe usarlo para ayudar a sus amigas, como cuando Sofia usó uno de los trajes de Ecomoda para ir a ver a Efrain.

También me encanta que no sacrificaron su escencia de típica señora mayor por hacerla encajar con su amigas jóvenes. Inesita es una clásica señora de la tercera edad, la típica que no le gusta la música moderna, que idealiza la época de sus años mozos, que se escandaliza ante las ideas contemporáneas de los jóvenes, y que aprovecha cuando la escuchan para contar sobre su vida, con ese característico aire nostálgico de aquellas personas mayores que recuerdan a sus seres amados y sus mejores tiempos con ellos.

En parte admito también que es porque me recuerda mucho a mi propia abuela, qepd. Ella tenía muchísimo talento para la costura y confección, y llegó a hacerme, repararme, y remendarme muchas prendas através de mi vida. No dudo que, si hubiera tenido acceso a más educación, pudo haberse hecho toda una costurera profesional. También fue siempre y hasta su último momento una mujer que andaba siempre arreglada, con sus uñas pintadas y su cabello cortito pero bien peinadito. Le gustaba también contar sobre su juventud, y cada que veo ese capitulo de Inesita enferma cuando le cuenta al Cuartel sobre sus hijos, no puedo evitar pensar en mi propia abuela. Siempre fue muy activa, y buscaba siempre qué hacer y a dónde salir. Su historia personal con mi abuelo es también bastante similar a la de Inesita, por desgracia, entonces, ya con todo, es bastante fácil ver las similitudes. Ver a Inesita me recuerda tanto a mi abuela en sus mejores años, antes de que la Pandemia derribara su espíritu y, eventualmente, se llevará su vida misma.

This is an HC from a friend that tells Héctor (Pixar Coco) could've been son of Manolo Sánchez and María Posada (The Tree of Life) She also made some OC children from them and siblings for Héctor.

I made a Fanart of them in honor of my friend's birthday, trying to recreate those vintage photos from the early XX's, and this obviously would be a family photo that foreshadows Hector's very own with Imelda and baby Coco. I made a similar Fanart with the Mérante family before.

Here appear the twins Juan and Sophie (the ones at the sides of Manolo) and the little girl on María's lap is Camilla. Héctor would be 11-12 years old and he's the one at the side of María and in front of Sophie.
