The Only Reason _ Part 3
[Yandere!Sung Jinwoo x Worker!Reader - Mana Chaos AU]
Part 1 — Part 2 — Part 3 (here) — Part 4
Tumblr media
“Sung Jinwoo is an S-Rank Hunter…”
“Another one…”
“It’s been 2 years since Cha Hae-In too.”
Nowadays, the emergence of an S-Rank Hunter and some A-Rank Hunters was like a demon had crawled out of hell and into the human world to cause destruction. Strong Hunters were seen and painted as a double-edged sword. On one hand, they could bring about peace to normal—non-awakened—individuals by closing gates and raiding dungeons. On the other hand, they could bring about destruction in their wake due to <Outrage> and the innocence would be harmed.
Protocols like an awakened Hunter must report to the EMI instead of the Hunter Association because they have to keep track of stronger Hunters. Hunters must continuously measure their mana levels in case of a reawakening into a higher rank. It was unavoidable, no matter which country, because they prioritized ordinary people more.
Perhaps the only place where EMI regulations can’t touch is America. After what Thomas Andre had done, he singlehandedly protected his fellow Hunters and announced to the EMI that they couldn’t have their way with people who worked to protect them from the dangers known as gates and dungeons. There were some Hunters that escaped to America to join Thomas and his stance, there were also some that were unluckily caught by the EMI, and some that didn’t do anything. Such is the sway of a National Level Hunter.
Unlike Thomas, who had no weaknesses to use against, Jinwoo was different. His family, his mother and younger sister, were dependent on the society and their system. So, against his better judgement, Jinwoo bowed to the whims of the EMI and was taken in as SM-10.
In the facility, he underwent several tests to draw a profile for him since he was fundamentally different from his E-Rank file. Anyone could see at a glance. Jinwoo kept his cards hidden because the more capable he was, the greater the danger his loved ones would be in. He was doing everything for his family. Upon capture, he was promised that his family would receive financial support so long as he behaved himself.
A cowardly but effective threat and compromise that he agreed.
Still, he hated the people who worked in this accursed building. All those labourers who hid behind a mask and voice changer donned uniforms that displayed their station. Throughout his days, he observed a few groups of workers.
First was the type that he frequently came into contact with: Guard. As their station name, they guarded things, from equipment to rooms and even Hunter cells. They were the ones that handled conflict and violence, even the heavy lifting, if any. Those who were higher ranked were called Warden; however, he only saw them during his testing sessions when they were making his profile. They all wear black masks—Warden’s mask is black with a white scratch mark over the right eyehole—and black soldier uniforms.
Second was the type that constantly changes to the point he doesn’t even keep track of: Supervisor. Contrary to their high-standing title, they do the smallest and most insignificant tasks, like delivering supplies, checking Hunter cells, and being an owl so passing messages. They were low-ranking workers that most wouldn’t bat an eye to if gone. Perhaps that’s why they have a grey uniform and a grey mask. Their code went as high as the hundreds, going to the thousands.
Third was the type that he hated most: Investigator or Researcher. They were the ones who administered the tests and punishments to the Hunters, and they monitored them inside their cell. Under their glances, a Hunter is reduced to a mere lab rat. They were individuals connected to the EMI but needed to be more important to make a—any—difference in the building. However, they were respected in some sense because some did aim for the betterment of the Hunters staying in the building. They wear a white mask with a mocking grin and a white uniform, complete with a lab coat.
Last was the type that intrigued him the most: Personnel. Though their code suggests they have people in the hundreds, there was actually only a handful of them in the building. The highest number he saw was 12. They were the ones with the most authority and well-respected individuals among the other groups, their work and station varied from individual to individual. They were the ones that stayed in the building the longest, and a new Personnel would only join their ranks if they carried confidential information about the EMI.
One would notice there doesn’t seem to be a highest position or individual, but the Personnel were the ones who acted as the say of the facility. None had absolute power to keep each other in check, and in case a threat was targeted, if one fell, the other would continue in the other’s place. The smaller the number, the bigger their authority, it seems.
Personnel 001 was once his observer during the tests, when he could let loose. After all the observation and boredom, Jinwoo accidentally killed them and was quickly restrained. He paid close attention to what happened. Would another observe him? Would there be a new Personnel in their ranks? What would happen?
Turns out, you happened.
Personnel’s clothing is ever-changing. They have free reign over what they want to wear; needless to say, they have no uniform. They only have to wear a lab coat over their usual outfits, and that’s it. One could mistake them for Investigators, but the distinct code would be shown on their coat at the area over their heart. They have a white mask with reflective black glasses covering their eyeholes.
Yet when you came in, you were void of that mask that hides one’s expression and face. Still, your poker face was impressive. You appeared expressionless and reminded him of a doll. You neither introduced yourself nor showcased your station, different from Personnel 001, who was practically shouting at him that they were the ones in power in this facility. At first glance, he knew you were different from all the rest.
“You’re hiding your cards. SM-10.” Your words held knowledge and confidence, stating a fact rather than questioning him. Your arm hugged a black clipboard with a small stack of papers clipped while your other hand held a pen. If you weren’t wearing a lab coat, you’d appear like a strict teacher or lab researcher.
He couldn’t help but let a smile spread over his lips, “What makes you think that?”
“You’re holding back.” You turned to the Guards stationed within the cell to leave you alone. Yes, a Personnel has the authority to be alone with a Hunter, but if it were a Supervisor, they must be with at least two to three Guards. “You killed Personnel 001, why? Be honest.”
There was a shine in your eyes that he noticed. He couldn’t tell what it was, though he wanted to be coy. “You’re not the only ones observing. Why not make it mutual?”
That was his first meeting with you.
With his Shadows, he watched you and your daily activities. You were practically glued to your work; you came to work early but left late. You have a good relationship with the other coworkers, and most respect you, evident by the nodding heads you receive in the hallways. You also seem to care for Hunters in their cells, inspecting the cell quality and making things more bearable for Hunters like him.
Thanks to him, more and better changes happened after Personnel 001 was removed. By then, he figured out that whether it was a company setting or a guild setting, 001 was the guild master, and you were the vice master. Once 001 was gone, you had more authority and implemented changes, of course, with the agreement of your other Personnel co-workers.
In that case, that makes you a lot more interesting. You realized his strength and power, you wanted an improved and more sophisticated place for Hunter, different from how the facility was supposed to be, and you have been treating everyone human.
Jinwoo concluded that he wanted to stay and get closer to you. With you in charge, his family was practically safe as well. He’ll stay and protect your spot at the top. Yet why were you pushing him away? It infuriated him. Still, he was thankful for the other Personnels’ fear over setting an S-Rank loose in public that he could prove to you how wrong you were to fight for his release.
While showing his point, he reduced the Personnel to perhaps 6 remaining—that already includes you. From 12 to 6, he cut off 4, and then there was 001 as well, so one Personnel died through other means. Either way, he made his point.
You were the only Personnel he liked and could resolve his <Outrage>.
That already bound you to him, and none would harm you unless they wanted the country to fall to ruins.
The two of you share secrets, and slowly, he got you to open up, showing only him a side of you that you hide behind an invisible mask. You’re the only one for him, he’ll make it so that he’s the only one for you.
He realized that his emotions and feelings for you turned a bit twisted over time. That Guard 149 that stared at you a little too long? Their leg was somehow caught between the double doors, so they can’t work here anymore, right? That Investigator 083 that was standing so close to you that your arms were touching? An experiment backfired and their arms were amputated. Another Guard that is coded 761 was asking you out? They got into a car accident and died.
Jinwoo was careful. You never pointed fingers at him nor suspected it was him at all. You were very naive and innocent; he loves that about you. You care for your workers, yet at the same time, you also don’t. He got his answer when he finally communicated with the other S-Rank Hunters during the end of the Jeju Raid.
“Personnel 002? Oh, I’d say that person cares about Hunters more.”
“Haha, Personnel 002 has been very accommodating, unlike the other ones.”
“You can’t compare Personnel 002 with the others, it’s not a fair comparison.”
“I always enjoy my time with Personnel 002.”
“You’re lucky SM-10, I wish I could have Personnel 002 come to my place often.”
The other S-Rank Hunters only had good things to say about you. As expected, you were biased against Hunters and silently helped them more. Though, he was more enraptured to hear you giving him special care and attention. In private, his smile grew wide as he chuckled to himself. “Ah… You’ll be the death of me… Personnel 002.”

say who is cream's kevin eleven and gwen in the cream 10 au?
The Kevin equivalent is Clasp the Spider, an oc I repurposed from a different Cream-centric story idea (that I've never posted about) where Eggman's latest scheme inadvertently makes Cream swap places in time with her teenage future self. In that Clasp is a hacker who was with Future Cream when they got swapped because they were investigating an old possibly-not-as-abandoned-as-it-should-be Eggman Base.
And because they're girlfriends.
In Cream 10 they meet much earlier than they had in that story (since for the whole Kevin 11 thing to work they have to meet before Cream starts unlocking aliens), and it plays out pretty close to how Ben and Kevin's first meeting did, just modified to fit the different characters and setting (and with a 6 and 7 year old simultaneously dealing with their First Crush to make the storm of emotions just that little bit more volatile).
As for Gwen... honestly I'm gonna go the funny route and have Cheese be the one with an Anodite grandparent.

How about "library" for the one word prompts?
"Everyone put the top five cards of your library into your graveyard," Wind said with a wide grin. Everyone else groaned.
Sky picked up his top card and gasped. "No, not my Trapped in a Tower!" Sky cried, cradling the card in his hands.
"Hell yeah, get rid of it!" Legend cheered. "Noting can stop my boar now!"
Sky frowned and reluctantly placed the card in his growing graveyard pile.
"You killed two of my rats," Wild said with a frown.
"You'll get them back," Hyrule said unenthusiastically, head propped on his head.
"True," Wild admitted.
From his seat in his office, Time sighed. The Magic game had been going for an hour and a half and showed no signs of ending soon. So much for a peaceful Sunday catching up on work.
Time leaned back in his chair at just the right angle to see the living room and propped his feet up. At least he got to watch his kids have fun.

How are the relationships between the team Ben quartets in the Gwen and 23 universes like?
23’s universe
Ben and Gwen- not great, they do not get along whatsoever. They barely miss each other either since they never got to bond like thier other counterparts.
Gwen and Kevin- not fully sure they would date but they definitely like each other since Gwen doesn’t care about Ben getting smacked around by Kevin. Gwen may become an antagonist to Ben along with Kevin.
Ben and Kevin- Kevin despises him and Ben thinks very shallowly of Kevin at first. That is until he becomes a problem that 23 has to deal with. Finding out about his past lessens 23s hate towards Kevin, but nothing changes for Kevin accept to make him angrier at the world when 23 tries to sympathize with losing a family member.
Ben and Rook- like I said before grade A student with the one who thinks they’re too cool for school. They get along well enough and 23 does amaze Rook but only so much. He slowly come to realize 23 is kinda a brat overtime, but over that period of time 23 doesn’t mellow out as much as he starts to see the more darker sides of reality. So it’s a two things at once always with these two.
Albedo and Ben- this universes albedo is the same as prime, except he is right in thinking letting the kid keep the watch can only spell disaster. 23 just turns around, calls Albedo a sad soggy mop and a hater, then leaves. Kid cares very little about what albedo has to say and is very rude about it.
Lucy and Ben- these two get into so many shenanigans together that it’s ridiculous. They are each others lack of self control. Little chaos gremlins sharing the same impulsive brain cell.
Gwen mostly avoids anyone in Ben’s life in 23s universe so she doesn’t interact much with people he’s around.
Gwen 10
Ben and Gwen- pretty much like siblings with how close they are. Since both of them dabble in magic they’re constantly bringing new spells they found to one another. Gwen never had the same issue Ben did in my aus Prime universe with too much mana. Anodites aren’t ment to avoid use of their mana. thankfully, Gwen was so invested in magic despite already having the watch that she never had to deal with an overload of mana to such an extreme extent since she uses her magic occasionally during the day.
Kevin and Gwen- their relationship in this au is the closest you’ll get to the prime one. Except now that Kevin has complete control over his absorption abilities and no longer has the side effect of madness to worry about. they’re a terrifying and efficient duo. He often partially transforms to whatever alien that is needed in any situation to best tag team enemies. She however now gets the great luck of accidentally destroying the crap outta Kevin’s stuff, but she always makes sure to replace it or help fixing it.
Ben and Kevin- since it was still Ben who Kevin ran away with in classic most story beats stay the same with thier relationship. though Kevin feels guilt towards him being the reason Ben turned his own mana slightly radioactive to avoid further absorption. Ben feels also feels guilt to not trying hard enough to convince Kevin during the classic series to stop his warpath.
Gwen and Charmcaster- they get along quite well, Gwen is happy and annoyed to have Hope around, she wouldn’t change time to have it any other way. Though her snobby attitude to knowing more spells and curses than Gwen definitely gets on her nerves and Gwen’s very follow the rules and guidelines mentality gives Hope a headache. Hope was slow to trust Gwen and vice versa, thought once they learnt to trust they other they’ll always have each others back. They often are each others first to call person when in a pickle since they are a bit more level headed in everyday situations than the two boys, but not by much.
Charmcaster and Kevin- two reformed ex villains… they are both enablers to the others somewhat old habits at times, Kevin secretly (completely by accident) taught her the trade of con artist. She now con’s students down on their luck with her mini store of random common misplaced items, (one of the common items is a geiger counter). And Hope has shown him how to make smoke bombs and other quick getaway tricks.( he uses them often im not so legal trades when things go south) they however don’t hang out much alone since things are awkward between the two since they are not very social people.
Charmcaster and Ben- they get along like a house on fire. Put two people who always kinda wished to have a sibling into a somewhat sibling like bond and you get these two. Hope took most to Ben out of the other two due to his more strangeness. Also he is the one who kept hold of her book for years in the hopes of giving it back.(he felt bad for kinda inadvertently stealing it back in classic). Both are grateful to the others assistance to their own weakness. Ben willingly allows Hope to draw on his extra mana (as long as she gives warning) so that she doesn’t have to stick so close to ledgerdomain in worries of being at risk of low energy. This also aids Ben in not being overwhelmed with too much mana of his own. And in return she has to teach him all she knows of magic and anything he could possibly do with his mana.
Ben and sunny- (Since Gwen is still the golden child of the family now having the watch and the spark Sunny doesn’t feel very completaive with Ben.) In fact Sunny wants to see Ben succeed not over her but over Gwen. But when she and Ben meet in alien force he has already lost his human form and been fully awakened. Instead of wanting to get stronger he… wants to build his body back? Sunny thinks Ben is very strange and Ben feel sympathy for Sunny being the black sheep of the family but doesn’t tolerate how ignorant she is of others and their opinion’s.
Julie and Ben- the same in prime but they did not break up. Julie still has ship and goes to tennis matches internationally but this does not affect her relationship with Ben. They are very sweet together, though Ben does drive her nuts about how oblivious he is to social and romantic cues at times and Julie is sometimes waaaay to vague about things for Ben. They do talk things out when things get tough.
Julie and Charmcaster- they get along and Julie gets to interduce Hope to the childhood she missed and stuff she never knew. She feels pitty for Hope but keeps that to herself as Hope would not appreciate being pittied.
The plumbers kids(the rooters arc isn’t cannon to this au) and the trio+2
Manny. He likes none of them, he will not tell anyone why but he will challenge you to a fight to find out why and decide to change the rules on why he won’t tell you after regardless if he wins or loses, Hope has definitely thrown him through a few things after getting fed up with him for that.
Helen. She enjoys Hopes presence and tolerates the rest to varying degrees. she is fine with the rest but only slightly iffy on Kevin after his whole driven to insanity arc. She stays polite to him much like Alan though. Her and Gwen no matter how hard they try just can’t manage to be anything beyond polite and quietly annoyed with each other.
Alan. Vibes with all of them, took a while to trust Kevin again but now they’re buddy buddy with each other, both car enjoyers. He and Hope acknowledge the other exist but thats as far as it goes.
Pierce. Playful rivalry with Ben, these two will compete for or with anything. Teases Gwen about her going evil often much to her chargin(she pulled the im evil card in one episode like Ben did in alien force as a training stunt). Not a fan of Kevin still. Him and Julie surprisingly get along great with her wing-manning for him when he’s in a bit of a situation when it comes to women. Hope wanting to get in on the rivalry just simply annoys him.
I have much more ideas of what changes and what stays the same in Gwen 10 vs Prime. Like what is effected by Gwen and her way of thinking combined with her having the watch vs Ben and his Just roll with it attitude and boundless mana.

(ALRIGHT I'M BORED, REGRETEVATOR AU HEADCANONS LOREDROPS 2: ELECTRIC BOOGALOO)
[GNARPY & GNARPIAN SOCIETY]
-> Gnarpy has trouble showing empathy and sympathy, mostly because xe was taught at a young age to close off xeir emotions.
-> Most gnarpians used to worship a deity called "Flogzor". A god of harvest, fortune and peace.
-> Life on Gars before the Great Industrialization was Tribal. And they worshiped Flogzor for tens of thousands of years. They kept mostly to themselves, and slowly advanced. But one day, they nearly all stopped worshiping Flogzor. No one knows why they did. But some say it came from a dream...
-> The only things gnarpians do not wish to fight against are Daleks, Mach and Incident Zero.
-> However, the gnarpians don't mind fighting the Orinthians. As long as they put up a good fight.
-> Gnarpy sometimes has mental breakdowns where xe cries. Worst case scenario xe does it in front of everyone.
-> Gnarpy has a narcissistic complex, and sometimes tries to spin the conversation to gnarpian related things.
-> Garby is considered the nicest gnarpian among other extraterrestrials.
-> Garby is autistic, and would pace around and flick xis ear with xis paw to stim. /selfproj
-> Gnarpy would be an amazing FPS player.
-> Most gnarpians are gambling addicts. They love making battle-related bets and waging gnarpian credits. Gnarpy would definitely also be a slot machine addict if xe ever crossed one, because of all the colors.
[3-FR THEORY] (Click if you want to learn more than gnarpy stuff in my AU!)
-> There goes an existing theory called the "3-FR Theory" in which states that there are Three Factors of Reality. Where there is Space, the one we currently live in. AntiSpace, where chaos and destruction only exist, And SubSpace. Where the two spaces intertwine and what is only described closest as "Universe Blood". A highly volatile pink substance that shimmers.
-> Consider SubSpace as a near-impassable river, only able to be traversed by tapping into it, or using highly unstable technology. The only technology available that uses subspace are the SubSpace Engine and the SubSpace Tripmines.
-> There is nothing beyond the three factors, for it is called the "Void". A seemingly infinite mass of corruptive, unknown substance.
-> No one knows what the "Regretevator" is, they just go on it whenever they please when it pops up.
[EARTH, HUMANITY AND MAGIC]
-> Mana is the secondary life force of a Magically gifted person. (Mage, wizard or witch) When they reach natural old age, they begin to rely more and more on mana until the reserves implode on itself and they finally die. This can last up to two-to-ten thousand years if they keep training.
-> Mana exists in everyone, but those who are regular are dormant.
-> To use Magic, one must tap into their inner soul. Draw it out of their manaforce and cast it. This process is tedious for those who wish to awaken their magic. For it will cost heavily their energy and fatique.
-> Magic can be extended to rituals. The bigger the ritual, the better the outcome.
-> For this, rituals that use blood or intent of world destruction are purely forbidden. Cultists prefer to use all rituals however.
-> There exists different nationalities of robloxian/human. There are the Redcliff, Korvundan, and Orinthian.
-> Orinthians are by far the most advanced race of robloxian/human, able to go head-to-toe with Gnarpians.
-> There are two highly classified branches of earth government called the "S.P.E.C". (Selective Procurement of Extraterrestrial Commerce") and "I.N.D.I.G.D.O". (Intergalactic Nexus of Defense Integrations and Global Defense Operations).
[DRRETRO and KATBALLS]
-> DRRETRO and other katballs do have a body in my AU, and if you seen the size of her when she was in the regretevator, she'd be too big to fit inside height wise.
-> She is very motherly, and would protect those from harm. She'd go as far to even comfort gnarpy... even though xe would deny her worry and hiss and scratch at DRRETRO.
-> Some Katballs do live on earth. They are naturally fluffy and cuddly like big cats.
-> Most of them came from another universe/dimension. How they got past the Impassable River is unknown. (Probably meowing at it)
[Gregoriah]
-> Gregoriah often gets takeout from one of his own restaurants, simply because he doesn't have enough energy to cook.
-> He works 9-5, on the clock, at every shift. He doesn't even get breaks.
-> Gregoriah is a MASSIVE workaholic, nearly passing out on the button controls sometimes.
-> If gregoriah would eat a pot brownie, he would be ABSOLUTELY stoned. He's so lightweight that even a crumb would make him high.
-> Gregoriah would like to be called "Greg, greggy, Mr. G, G-boy, Mr. Gregsicle, Greggle and Greggle 2." However, he does not like to be called "Gregnant" or by his deadname. That's one way you get on his real bad side.
-> Gregoriah is RARELY ever raging mad. If he would be put in such a state, he would have the capacity to destroy entire buildings.
-> For this reason, his co-workers would often put up a fake smile.
[Mach]
-> Mach and Incident Zero know eachother. For this reason is still unknown.
-> Her banhammer can hurt folly, but it would always feel like a stubbed toe.
-> Contrary to belief, her banhammer is not the same as an Admin's banhammer. Not the same banishment type.
-> With her hammer, she can access the banlands, but not send people there.
-> She dislikes going to gars because it "smells like dirty socks from an overworked Zum'ae".
-> Mach is immune to lethal chemicals with her cybernetics.
And finally...
[The Malicious Duo: MR and Folly]
-> Not much will be said about the two. For that would be spoilers... shhh...
-> Folly would often seek to torment people in their dreams.
-> She likes to psychologically play with people, influencing their dreams so they could die in them.
-> The reason she can appear in the elevator is unknown, some speculate daydreaming. In which she can appear, but not interact physically. Only verbally.
-> MR wants out.
-> Once enough mental damage is done, she can go in for the kill. This is based on their mental fortitude. For example: She can't kill Pest outright, because he took a barter with an unknown individual, placing a piece their spirit inside of him. Excluding him from the guest purge. However, Melanie...
-> Spud/frank is so mentally broken that he cannot recover by normal/mortal means. Folly is just savoring his... condition. Before doing anything drastic.
-> MR only thrives in darkness. it burns them when they enter light in their spirit form.
-> MR is not dead, they quickly hid in the shadows of Mach's office before their rock shattered. The pieces regenerate overtime. The rock can never be broken for good.
-> Garby is infected with something. But it isn't either of their doing.
AND THAT'S IT!!
Hope you like my AU headcanons.

Finally finsihed the map for my little dungeon AU Equestria! Now hopefully the name of the AU makes sense lol.
Tumblr media
The nature is supported by pony magic in most of the dungeon, except Doom Empire and below that are the domain of Changelings, Chimeras and who knows what other creatures. Another place like this being Everfree Forest and Northern Peaks that are close enough to the overworld to still have overworld-like ecosystem supporting itself just fine. Near the surface mana from the outside seeping in, which ponies call 'Chaos magic'
The Doom Empire ran by Queen Chrysalis and her husband Lord Tirek has been making attempts to leave the dungeon in pursuits of the raw chaos magic from the overworld, but the ponies, driven by something alike natural instinct have been fearlessly containing them in the bottom layers of the dungeon.
Young princess Twilight Sparkle has been questioning the nature of Equestria, why is it so important for her kin to stop anyone from its depths to surface and what exactly is the overworld....

"soldier, poet, king" + POV of team 7 from someone in the far future, maybe through the lens of a distant descendant build off surviving myths and historical texts
Dear anon, I hope you don’t mind, but I took a gentle step sideways and backwards with this prompt. In my search for all of the royalty!AU posts, I refreshed my memory about Foundation of Yesterday in which DoS/the Elemental Nations is the extremely distant past of FFVII. Coupled with the SOLDIERs of FFVII and my assigning of which member of Team Seven corresponds to which character of FFVII, I think it all combines well with your prompt. Additionally, I couldn’t tell which members of Team Seven I would assign soldier, poet, and king. But it was easy for me to assign solider, poet, and king to their FFVII descendants and then reverse engineer from there. So we get Cloud, obvious Soldier, descendant of blue-eyed blonde, storm and strife. Yuffie as King, inheriting a pendant that summons a sleeping goddess in times of need. And Vincent is less obvious as Poet, but you can probably get into a sort of meditative philosophizing of working for tyrants and falling in love with a scientist only for her to betray you and then going into hibernation and maybe meeting your distant ancestor who is Chaos? Unfortunately, I don’t actually know that much about FFVII—as I’ve never played it, nor the remake—except for what I’ve gleaned from fanfiction and cultural osmosis, lol. And then this does get into the problem, similar to the Fear to Tread (a world unseen) post in that the primary setting/POV of the fic WOULD be the world/characters that I am less accustomed to writing and then making up the history of the world between the events of DoS and FFVII. So I’m going to continue with my gentle sideways and backwards steps and give you this, instead:
~
(king)
When Yuffie finally activates the strange summon materia she inherited from her father, everything goes dark. At first she panics—maybe something went wrong? did she not have enough mana? was she cursed with blindness?—but then little pin pricks of light appear, like distant stars coming ever closer.
She doesn’t see what the summon does exactly, the battle ends so quickly after that, but that doesn’t matter too much considering the summon just… doesn’t leave.
The Shikabane-hime—once the tendrils of star-filled shadows have done their damage and tucked themselves away out of existence—looks human. Like one of Yuffie’s people, a girl far from home, displaced from Wutai, just like her.
But as the other members of the party shift and stare, uncertain as to what it happening, she remembers who exactly she’s looking at. What she is looking at, that is: a summon, inherited from her father, who only showed up now after her homeland has been ruined by ShinRa.
Later, when they have made camp for the night, when the Shikabane-hime has still not disappeared, even though Yuffie’s original mana offering should have long run out, she confronts the summon.
“Where were you?” Yuffie asks in Wutaian so the others can’t understand her. She tries to make it accusatory, tries to sound authoritative, like a proper Princess of Wutai, but she’s afraid it comes out more hurt, plaintive, like a child who realizes that legends are nothing more than stories, than lies. Like the legend that the Shikabane-hime would come in Wutai’s time of need.
The Shikabane-hime tilts its head, gaze sharp but not unkind. Yuffie thinks for a moment, perhaps it can’t understand her, what language do summons speak? Please not Midgarish.
But then the Shikabane-hime answers, “Your father never called for me.” Its gaze, somehow, becoming sharper but also more kind. Concerned, maybe. “Perhaps he did not believe. Perhaps it was not enough of a threat.”
“Not enough of a threat?” Yuffie shouts.
The rest of the party turn their way, hands on their weapons, except for Vincent whose attention had been on the Shikabane-hime the whole time. He waves them off and the others, with reluctance, stand down.
“What do you mean not enough of a threat? ShinRa invaded our homeland. It is a shell of itself! My father—” she cuts herself off before she can say anything else. Before she can realize what else in her childhood is a story, a lie.
“In the future, you will reclaim it, rebuild it,” the Shikabane-hime says, too casual for a command, too simple for a prophecy. “But first, we must ensure there is a future.”
(poet)
When Shikako meets the almost familiar red eyes of Vincent Valentine, she does not say the following:
Is he doing okay in there? How did he manage to survive so long? If you could let him know I’m sorry, I miss him. Tell him thank you from me for holding on so long. Too long. Tell him he can let go, that he doesn’t have to stay if it hurts. If he needs to move on, it’s okay. I’ll meet him there when I’m done. And I’ll bring Naruto with me. You can rest now, Sasuke, I’m here now. I’ll see you soon.
When Vincent looks at the Shikabane-hime—
(Kako, Yuffie introduces it as, trying to play it off as just a late coming fellow Wutaian. If the other members of the party make the connection between the godly manifestation of starlit shadows and the normal looking woman following them blandly, they aren’t making a fuss about it, so neither will Vincent.)
—the Chaos inside of him settles into peace.
(soldier)
“You resemble your ancestor quite a bit,” Kako says to Cloud during a quiet stretch of their travels. It is the first thing she says to him.
Cloud nods, because what else can he do in response to that—
(Of course nobody believes that Kako is just a normal Wutaian woman, but they’re up against the biggest superpower in the world and also an ancient evil and also an undying Sephiroth while the Planet riots in its attempt to save itself, like a fever willing to burn everything up to stave off the infection.
They’ll take any help they can get, imposter or no. And it’s not as if he has room to talk about that anyway.)
—but he does notice that her eyes are closed as she says this, implying her remark isn’t about a visual resemblance but something else, something deeper.
“He was named after a storm,” she says, and for once her tone changes, the apathy gently flavored with fondness, “but he was truly more like the sun.” Her expression, too, shifts: a small, sad smile gracing her face.
And because Cloud knows what it’s like to lose someone you admired—in both ways, the aching grief of losing an admired person, and the sharp lance of a hero no longer being admirable—he asks her, stumbling “Were you—did you know them well?”
Her eyes open at this, an assessing glance sent his way. Her smile melts away, as if it had never been.
“Yes,” she says, tone flattened once more. “He was a good man and the Planet turned him into a WEAPON.”
Cloud startles. He looks to Aerith as he does whenever Planet and Cetra stuff are brought up, but he finds her face turned away, as if guilty, not wanting to meet his or Kako’s eyes.
“But no need to worry,” Kako says, voice not so much reassuring as it is grimly determined. “I will ensure you do not follow his path too closely.”

"We're not so different, you and I. I'll not forget you saved my life, Rowan Kenrith, even though it means I've incurred a debt..." With the Sleep Curse lifted and Eriette the Witch’s plans foiled, Rowan Kenrith narrowly escapes execution ordered by her own brother, the High King of Eldraine. Decreed by her home plane’s storybook magic that she is now a villain, Rowan has only one ally left: the fey trickster whose life she saved in the name of virtue and justice. Indebted to her via a magical contract more powerful and ancient than even a planeswalker spark, Oko will be whatever Rowan needs him to be -- protector, lover, or even a weapon. Rowan finds Oko on a plane known as Thunder Junction, a place where Omenpaths converge, a safe haven for those fleeing from the devastation of the Phyrexian Invasion… and a plane all but devoid of mana, where grit and cunning are the true forms of power. The Only Reason _ Part 2
[Yandere!Sung Jinwoo x Worker!Reader - Mana Chaos AU]
*Note: I got a name for the AU!! Mana Chaos!! A bit random, but I just went with it. Here’s part 2 since the part one blew up.
Part 1 — Part 2 (here) — Part 3 — Part 4
Tumblr media
“Have a safe trip, Personnel 002.”
“Be safe, please.”
“We’re counting on you.”
“Don’t let your guard down.”
As you expected everyone was treating you like you were the one going into a war zone and not the S-Rank Hunter that was doing the country a favour. You internally sighed while you maintained an expressionless face to all those around you bidding farewell or wishing you luck and safety.
Honestly speaking, you were the safest person in the building, if not, in the world with the amount of Shadow soldiers Jinwoo has put into your shadow for your protection. Just the other day, you were furiously protected by none other than Beru, one of Jinwoo’s strongest general grade or was it higher? You can’t recall and Jinwoo did explain to you once, but your system overloaded and didn’t catch much.
Concerning how those soldiers came to be, it was simple. To raise them from the dead. With every battle, Jinwoo grows stronger and stronger, hence why you privately dubbed him a National Level Hunter. His army of Shadows could practically cover the entire country two or three times, maybe even more. Even give Thomas a run for his money, if they ever meet each other in a battle. It would be distaterous so you rather not come to it.
This is why you didn’t want Jinwoo in the facility at all. He has perfect control over his emotions and high morals if you don’t cross his line. He was overall peaceful even with his vast strength and power. Unlike Thomas, he was tamed and very very well-behaved, to put it simply. You had tried to get your seniors or higher-ups and colleague to understand, but they all brushed it aside, saying an S-Rank belongs here and under surveillance.
Once, they agreed to observe Jinwoo’s tamed nature, to stop your insistence. However, it turned out horribly. You watched from the surveillance room when your unconvinced party enter Jinwoo’s cell. It all appeared normal until the straitjacket was removed from him and he started lashing out. The guards immediately tried to subdue him and rescue the innocent group from the clushes of the raging Hunter.
A chill ran down your spine as you froze up while the room darkened, an echoy whispered in your ear, “I heard you wanted to kick me out. So cold of you, really. I would have behaved if you had a work-life balance, but you are always in this insufferable building, so I have to decline.”
“You could have just told me…” You voice only came out as a mere mutter, but Jinwoo heard it loud and clear. Whatever controlled and peaceful image you have of Jinwoo gone to the drains, never to be recovered in that moment. Like anyone else, you were afraid. Not for yourself, but for those around you.
A dark chuckle rang and you felt like you were in his shadowy embrace with a weight lunched over from the back of your head down to your spine. “That was an option, but I wanted to show you my opposition to your idea. This was the best way I’ve come up with. Plus, it shows everyone here that you aren’t replaceable.” The weight was gone and the room returned to normal with his words beckoning you to him, “So come and calm me down, Personnel 002.”
Looking out the transport vehicle, you saw the streets practically empty apart from the guards stationed from place to place. You grimaced at the fearful citizens that no doubt went indoors or hid in their homes at the news.
Whenever an S-Rank is let out of their cell into the streets, be it for fresh air or raiding an impossible dungeon for the country, the public would get news of it and warn the citizens to stay away from the gate and advised to remain indoors while the mentioned locations or roads would be purposefully used to transport the Hunter directly to the site.
Bringing an S-Rank to an A-Rank gate or higher alone was practically giving them a death sentence. It was the government and people’s way of telling the strong Hunters to control themselves or they would die hourably in the raid while protecting their country.
A case of such an instance was the Jeju Island Raid. An S-Rank dungeon that have failed for 4 times before an alliance was formed between the Japanese S-Rank and Korean S-Rank. The Japanese Government sent their strongest to offer support, but mostly to get rid of them because they have grown too powerful and influential. With the <Outrage Incident>, they couldn’t afford to take any chances.
That raid had the most S-Rank Hunters in the same place, fighting the same battle. Originally, Jinwoo wasn’t present and you were with him in his cell doing paperwork while he watched the news. As sudden as it came, Jinwoo demanded to go there to help his fellow S-Rank Hunters from total annihilation.
When you saw the murderous ant, you knew Jinwoo wanted to add him into his army. You did wonder if the people above would want help, since it was a sure-fire way to rid the S-Rank Hunters but when again without the S-Rank, who would clear the harder gates? This stupid EMI system and all the cautiousness of frightened people.
In the end, Jinwoo’s wish was granted and you were also sent to the front lines in case Jinwoo went haywire. As drugs and medicine was proven ineffective to Jinwoo, the next best thing was you, since he held you in high regard. Not only did Jinwoo get his new soldier, who was later placed as your bodyguard, but he also somehow managed to control the other surviving S-Rank Hunters.
What happened after was Jinwoo showing his dominance over the other S-Ranks in Korea and making himself at the top of the food chain. He’s stay mild and controlled because he wanted to. Not because you people —the public and the government— could control him.
The vehicle stopped and your door was opened from the outside, a guard nodded and welcomed you while you got out. Your eyes looked over to the gigantic gate.
“Feels like a date, doesn’t it?” Jinwoo’s voice brought your attention to him. Dressed in a causal manner, a shirt and pants, plus a long coat to complete his look, his stuck to his dark theme. You were quite used to him in a straitjacket that everytime he was dressed normally, you were always spellbound. He chuckled and ruffled your hair. “Cat got your tongue?”
“You’re looking good.” You looked away to the side, a faint blush over your cheeks. There was no use fangirling in secret when Beru or some other soldiers would report back to him and he’d have a field day the next time you visit him. You might as well be honest and tell him now to get over it.
Now it was Jinwoo’s turn to freeze up and chuckle. “Thanks.”
Amidst the careful atmosphere, you sense the guards around you two on edge with Jinwoo’s freedom to do anything and his power unrestraint. Better enter the gate before they act out of fear and trigger some ridiculous conflict. “Let’s go, do you need any gear?”
“I only need you by my side.” Jinwoo returned back to his smooth and cheeky self, smiling down at you with a soft look in his eyes.
You physically and mentally controlled yourself so that you don’t faint from his words, reminding yourself repeatedly that you two were in public. It was hard for you to defend yourself against these attacks of his when he wasn’t in his usual dull look in the EMI. He is one handsome man. “Just say we can go…”
Jinwoo extended his hand to you and waited for you to put your hand in his, essentially you’d be putting your life in his hands because once you pass through the gate, he was your only lifeline to return in one piece. You did so without hesitation, Jinwoo will never allow harm to you and never let you out of his sight so long as he lives. You could feel the nervous and anxious glances from the guards scattered around the site from your nonchalant actions.
With a hum, Jinwoo gripped your hand in his and lead you into the gate where only he and you would be without any other humans. Truly as he said, it’d be a date where he and you could be your true selves.
“Come forth.” Jinwoo summoned his army who all appeared at his command, all kneeled and bowed their heads to him. “Like usual.” His eyes glowed a purple hue, “Leave the boss to me.”
So began the massacre while Jinwoo walked you through it all. The first time it happened, you were beyond terrified for you only knew Jinwoo was a capable S-Rank and shouldn’t be underestimated. That was the first time you’ve seen his army’s might and power. Compared to him, you and all the others in the EMI were ants, mere insects.
How you managed to capture Jinwoo’s eyes was beyond you, but you were a lucky person to be favoured by him, to some extent. Soon, you didn’t mind Jinwoo’s little favouritism and childish acts to get you into his cell. You looked forward to it. He accepted you for who you are and given you a place, a special irreplaceable place in the world and in his heart.
For all he has done for you, you wanted to return something for him. You even asked the soldiers in your shadow to keep it a secret from him so it was a grand surprise for him. The Jeju Island Raid that he singlehandedly cleared, you brought the island under his name with your wealth. With the help of the Shadows, you made the island habitable once more and invited some special people to live on it.
Your hand squeezed his as you looked up to him, he momentarily took his eyes off the battlefield and stared into your eyes. “Yes?”
A rare smile spread on your face, your inner self becoming giddy and expectant of Jinwoo’s reaction. “Do you want to see your family? I’ve offered them a place to live away from all the criticism and pressure from the government and public. They’ve also been wanting to see you too, face to face.”
Jinwoo’s eyes widened. The moment he was reevaluated, he was sent to the EMI building in Korea, he was treated like an object rather than a human being. He could have lashed out, but his family was on the line and while he could use his Shadows to protect him so he has freedom, that only puts a target on his back. By then, people would want him dead for sure.
The only solance he found in his darkness was you. The you who found out his secret and kept it to yourself, even wanting to give him back his freedom for your security, but he wanted to stay by your side instead. He thought that’s all he needed, but one day, you connected him with his family while in his cell and let him have his moment with them.
From time to time, you’d call his family and have a video call to let him and his beloved mother and sister chat together while you work in the corner with music playing in your headphones connected to your other device to give him privacy. A luxury he never could have with the protocols of EMI.
He was grateful for all you’ve done for him. Genuinely and absolutely. “Yeah, I’d love that.”

Note: I seriously did NOT think there would be another part. You guys liked part 1 a lot and I have no idea why. Welp, here's part 2. Not sure about a part 3, but I'll see how this one goes. Enjoy~!

To Ganz Gusev: since I saw your character Tamara, I really liked her design and story. But I was curious to know what the function of the "Clear" button on it is. Can you explain to me further! greetings
Tumblr media
That is a good question…
Well, the "CLEAR" button has a somewhat peculiar origin and use.
The creation of this button occurred when Empress Toriel fell after sacrificing her life. and among the last minutes of her life in the first line of time. gives Tamara an improvement in her code "Adding the Clear ability" since somehow she would know that her evil brother Emperor Gaster would take advantage of this opportunity to take over the Au with his possible creations if he were to steal her "Staff of Life" already. that with this powerful artifact he would complete his mission of creating evil revenants.
(Temporarily replacing the RESET button that at that time stopped working due to the corruption that the central core of the Au suffered from the Error!Sans attack)
The button has the ability:
1- Purifies the corrupt code of a revenant that is controlled by Emperor Gaster, thus freeing him from the curse of his control, (But this will not make him stop being a revenant, it only redeems him)
2- Within a minimum range it can make people and objects that come from the Au code recover their essence. Be it your HP and buildings. "But it can't revive people" nor does this work with other beings other than Au since Empress Toriel only programmed this to be used in Promised!Tale
3- With this button it also has an important role, since thanks to this. When used against a revenant that has a RESET fragment in its code. This same one will go to Tamara's code to recover her ability. "And when that happens, the timeline gives you permission to have the opportunity to reset an "attempt" with each fragment, bringing back the people who perished in the previous timeline." ------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And how is it possible for a returnee to have a RESET fragment? It has no logic…
And he has it and it is explained in the comic that each revenant before his death. Tamara in the first timeline when chaos occurred because of Error!Sans. She used the Reset Button to help her mother prevent the Au core from being destroyed. But she had a big consequence that the button couldn't handle the attack and it exploded into fragments. "And at that same moment the revenants who at that moment were humans touched the error glyches when Tamara tried to do the reset and obtained that fragment" Since among the files that were lost these were gathered in their souls, but a very important fact Importantly, after this event, the fragments they had now contained a percentage of size determination. thus denying that their souls were spread across space and time by Error!Sans when they died. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------
4- By completing the 22 fragments she will be able to fully recover the RESET ability thanks to this button. Having the opportunity to reset the core and recover her world and start from scratch… thus recovering her mother and sisters.
5- The use of this button is very limited. She almost has to limit herself to using it many times since it costs her a lot of "mana" And greetings from Mexico! <3

An au/verse where one must suffer for magics sake by slAMMING BACK THE EXTRACT BOTTLE LIKE THE WORST MANA POTION EVER!
I call it extractverse.
Different extract bottles give different effects, and can be boosted by mixing flavors.
Vanilla->necromancy/spirit mediumship
Mint ->luck magic
Lemon->cleansing
Strawberry->love magic
Almond->illusion magic
Cheese->divination
Raspberry->plant magic
Cherry->mind control
Butter->animal magic
Orange->fire magic
Coffee->telekinesis
Maple->ice magic
Coconut->water magic
Blueberry->dream magic
Rum->shapeshifting
Pineapple->chaos magic

(Feel free to add on)
Of course there are consequences to magic ranging from stomach aches to melting ones veins if overdone, and many terrible side effects in between<3
Of course the extract bottles still taste bad. But heeeey magic!!!
Sugar acts as a neutralizer, explaining why it's ok to flavor baked goods with extract.
Extracts will be elaborated on in seperate posts

[Image ID: several colored digital sketches of different Sonic the Hedgehog characters, each redesigned to resemble a corresponding Yu-Gi-Oh! character. A logo in the top left reads "Heart of the Chaos", with text under it saying "A Sonic the Hedgehog x Yu-Gi-Oh! AU".
On the top half of the page is a lineup of characters. First on the left is Sonic as Atem, wearing his outfit from Millennium World - a cream robe, a red cape, and a gold crown. He also wears matching gold bracelets on his ankles, wrists, and upper arms, as well as a gold belt and gold earrings. Around his neck hangs on a Chaos Emerald on a necklace. The Emerald is pale yellow, almost translucent. Sonic has his fists on his hips, his legs spread apart, and a cocky grin on his face.
Next to Sonic is Blaze as Mahad. She wears a cream robe, a gold belt, a gold necklace and bracers, and a gold headpiece. Attached to the headpiece over her forehead is a pale oval jewel, the same color as Sonic's Chaos Emerald. Blaze stands with her arms folded, looking at Sonic with a fondly amused smile.
Third in the lineup is Marine as Mana. She wears Mana's outfit - a plain cream dress with a gold belt, gold necklace, and a white cloth headpiece. She leans towards Blaze, fists up and grinning widely.
Next is (an alternate timeline) Silver as the Thief King. He wears a blood red cloak over plainer cream robes. He has a pink burn scar over his left eye, and circular scars are burned into his palms. He stands with arms spread, glaring down at someone unseen.
Last is Tikal as Kisara. She wears a cream crop top of sorts, a cream skirt with blue hem, and leather sandals with wraps going up her legs. Similar wraps are on several of her flowing quills. A colorful beaded necklace is around her neck. She has one hand to her chest as she looks up with determination, eyes glowing blue.
In the bottom left corner of the page is a drawing of Marine as Mana, jumping with her arms spread and a wide smile on her face.
Finally, in the bottom right is a sequence with Blaze and Sonic. Blaze points aggressively at Sonic as Atem, growling "If you sacrifice yourself, I swear to Solaris no afterlife will save you from me." Sonic raises his hands in defense with a sheepish smile, saying "ok, ok!"
Text reads "3000 years later". Blaze looms behind Sonic, who is now possessing the form of Tails. Amy looks at her uncertainly while Sonic stares straight ahead with an expression of terror. Flames backlight Blaze as she glares down at him and says "I warned you." /end ID]
and that's the end of the Sonic/Yu-Gi-Oh! drawings for now. there may actually be some lore developing here?? wild.
Other drawings of this AU: Tails!Yugi and Sonic!Yami | Friendship Gang | Sonic Hate Club

In Absolute Being AU it’s interesting how Jinwoo and Jinchul’s progression differs
Jinwoo was gradually growing into his strength having time and space to figure it all out and practice even having literal guiding material with him all the time
Jinchul in this case is completely opposite: he wasn’t growing into his strength, it just hit him like a truck at critical moment, he has no one to guide him through his own ‘can’ and ‘cannot’, he has no guide and no idea what to do with it all
Ashborn’s strength allowed Jinwoo to bloom and take roots, while Absolute Being’s, while creational in it’s core, literally hurts Jinchul.
Jinchul’s health started to become worse even more than usual, some S rankers can feel that something is wrong with his mana, it’s in state of chaos and unrest as opposed to usually calm and stoic one. And then one day nothing seemingly is wrong until Gunhee notices that Jinchul is having a strong nosebleed, Jinchul just touches his leaking blood like ‘oh’ and then he just half coughs half chokes half spits splutter of blood and it’s an absolute mess.
Jinchul’s mana pretty much slowly tears and eats him from inside because human body isn’t supposed to host literal god in it. And since AB’s unlimited pools of mana slowly absorb Jinchul’s, it’s ain’t helping either, and Jinchul himself just can’t take this wild force under his control without outside assistance but from where?
Ashborn is helpful beyond any reason, Jinwoo is gradually becoming more panicking but old man is here on back of his consciousness giving instructions and explanations. Jinwoo felt his shadows that he assigned to Jicnhul being unrest and panicking and he instantly teleports here only to see Gunhee trying to keep Jinchul standing and leaning forward so he won’t choke on his own blood he just keeps coughing out. There’s so much of it, Gunhee’s hands and chest is covered in it, there’s small pool of it on floor, and then Jinchul lifts his head greeting Jinwoo with ‘Ah, good day, hunter Sung’ with hoarse bubbling voice and Jinwoo wants to yell (Ashborn later notes that he did yell extremely loudly inside) because Junchul’s lower half of face is completely smeared in blood, his suit has so much of it that it seems even darker. Man is extremely pale and barely focusing his eyes on Jinwoo’s face and Jinwoo can see how prominent shadows on Jinchul’s face are.
Jinwoo just grabbing Jinchul’s face no questions asked and starts to tune this wild strength in man while making sure that Jinchul coughs out all the blood from lungs. And then Jinchul’s breathing evens, all three stand here still on adrenaline and Jinchul just tiredly closes his eyes for a minute only to fall asleep, Jinwoo and Gunhee silently agree that today Jinchul is having a day off.

Sonic Pantheon AU: A Quick Summary
So, this is actually a pretty old AU that dates all the way back to when I first made this blog (so over a whole year ago). Back then it was about Sonic & Friends + the Deadly Six joining forces against a cursed god of ice and winter "accidentally" unleashed by Eggman. I've had it on the back burner for a while and more characters have been added over time, so I figured I'd bring it back around.

the seven schools of ravenwood
Tumblr media
Ever since Wizard City had fallen into chaos, students of Ravenwood were encouraged to fight off the creatures. Professors had used the opportunity to offer it as extra credit, gathering experience in battle. So like the rest of the school, you joined in, sticking to the streets of your home, Triton Avenue. You fought against the rotting fodders and scarlet screamers tooth and nail, but they kept coming and coming, pouring out of the Haunted Cave. It was a tireless cycle, leaving you constantly drained.
Low on mana and too tired to run around chasing whisps, you trudged over to the Fair Grounds. It was an easy way to fill up on mana and earn potion refills, making for easy health and mana recharging whilst away on quests.
Walking over towards a tent, you picked up a couple rings from the table. The game was easy enough, just toss all your rings onto an old glass bottle. You threw one, two, three rings out over the bottles but none caught on. You did the game again. Tossing the rings one, two, three and just barely hitting the bottle the third time. You let out a frustrated groan, hitting the wooden table as another three rings flew down towards you.
“Want some help?”
You threw your head around, meeting the eyes of a Storm student. You’ve seen him around before; hard to miss him with his black and purple hair. Not many people decided to rock multiple color combinations.
“This game is impossible,” you grumbled.
“Not really, there’s just a little trick to it,” the Diviner explained, taking the three rings. Sticking out his tongue and angling his arm at a particular position, he threw the first ring. It landed. He threw the second and the third, both landing on the bottles. “See?”
“Show off,” you grumbled as you folded your arms, eyeing him closely. “How did you do that?”
“I’m sorry, that’s a trade secret. Only my most trusted friends are told,” he smirked.
“How does one become one of your most trusted friends, pray tell?”
You saw a glimmer in his eyes, a bright spark of electricity that’s only seen in diviners as he held out his hand. “Shake my hand.”
You rolled your eyes at him, but you took his hand.
“Hoseok Thundershard, at your service.”
“Y/N Griffineyes.”
“Pleasure to make your acquaintance,” he said. “Now as one of my most trusted friends, you must promise to never tell another soul. Understood?”
“Understood,” you huffed with a smile. Sure he was a bit over the top but it was almost charming. Almost.
“Good. Now, you want to angle your arm to throw up, but only use your wrist to toss the ring. Like this.” As he spoke, he took the position again, flicking his wrist and sending the ring soaring.
“Is sticking your tongue out also a requirement?” You laughed, noticing how he had stuck his tongue out again.
“What? No, uh-” His cheeks turned red at your teasing. “That’s just a me thing,” he shyly confessed. “You try.” Hoseok took a step back, allowing you to take the second shot.
Taking the rings in hand, you tried to mimic his stance. With a flick of your wrist, you sent the ring flying. But instead of landing on the bottle, it hit the glass, tumbling to the ground.
“Stars!” You hissed.
“You’re doing it wrong, here.” Hoseok moved to stand behind you. Your breath hitched at the sudden closeness as he placed the ring into your hand. Gently, he wrapped his hand around your wrist, angling your arm and wrist. “Keep your wrist around hip level, and angle up. Try again.”
You tossed the ring again, this time the ring landed on the bottle. “I did it!”
“Yeah, you did!” Hoseok cheered.
“Thank you,” you smiled at him, feeling lighter than you were a few mere minutes ago.
“It’s no biggie.” He shrugged as the two of you left the tent, ready to refill your potions in the front. “The games can be a bit tricky, they say they’re not rigged but some definitely are.”
“You could say that again,” you chuckled airly. Both of you refilled your potions bottles, but if you were being honest, you weren’t quite ready to leave your new friend. “Say, do you want to. . . do something? Maybe?”
“What did you have in mind?”
You stuttered in your steps, remembering that there’s actually not that much to do nowadays. The Fireglobe Theatre has been closed for a few months now, and you didn’t exactly feel like challenging your new friend to a duel. . . “Wanna go fishing?”
There the two of you sat on the grassy area in the commons beside the pond, fishing poles in hand. It was a boring activity for sure, but at least it was somewhat relaxing.
“Gotta say, never really fished before but it’s peaceful. Nice way to unwind after everything,” Hoseok sighed blissfully.
“It is,” you agreed. “Picked up the habit ever since the streets started getting taken over.”
“What did you used to do?”
“Used to spend a lot of time at the theatre, watched a lot of the fire elf shows.”
“Do you live in Firecat Alley?” He asked, curious.
“No,” you shook your head. “Triton Avenue. I just have a love of theatre, plus Prince Alicane Swiftarrow puts on a great show. Why do you ask?”
“I grew up there. Thought I might’ve seen you around,” he answered. “But I do agree with you, Swiftarrow is a great actor as are the other fire elves.”
“Yeah,” you smiled, remembering one of the last shows the fire elves put on, A Comedy of Fizzles. “I gotta ask. . . do you stick out your tongue in battle too?”
The tips of Hoseok’s ears turned red, he kept his eyes trained on his fishing pole. “I uh, so I’ve been told. It’s stupid, I know. But it’s just a weird habit I’ve kept up.”
“I think it’s cute,” you winked at him.
His jaw dropped in shock, but before he could speak, his line started tugging. “Oh, stars!” He hissed as he started reeling in his line, fast as he could. “Come on. . . come on. . .” You watched on in excitement as he pulled in his catch. With one final pull, Hoseok yanked the fish out of the water, revealing a sharkspeare. “I- uh, wow!”
“Congrats, Hoseok!” You smiled as he summoned a bucket, placing his catch inside. “That’s impressive. You sure you haven’t fished before?”
“Completely, first ever catch!”
“I wish I was that lucky,” you sighed, feigning jealousy.
Overhead, the ringing of the curfew bell sounded. You lost track of time, just now noticing how low the sun hung in the sky.
“Oh, guess I’ll see you around then?” You asked as you stood up, gathering your fishing supplies in your hands.
“Of course, you’re now one of my most trusted friends, afterall,” he chuckled, picking up his catch of the day. “If you ever need help with anything, fair games or battles, feel free to call me,” he said as he handed you something. It was a communication ring.
“I will.” You nodded. “See you around!” You said as you headed back towards the dormitory, whilst Hoseok directed himself towards the Shopping District.
“Later!”
Unfortunately, you don’t manage to see Hoseok again or find a need to call him. You sucked yourself into your studies, fearing falling behind, especially since you were so close to transferring to Krokotopia. You didn’t think about going back out to battle. But you did think about calling him; of maybe asking him to join you on one of your study days (he was a diviner, maybe he could spare a few tips and tricks). But instead, you kept to yourself, only looking down at the ring longingly.
Until one evening it started to glow.
“Y/N? Are you there?” Hoseok’s voice emanated through the purple stone, sounding frantic.
“Yeah, what’s going on?”
“Uh, got myself in a bit of a pickle, to say the least,” he huffed as the familiar crackling sounds of magic and lightning were heard behind him. “Sohomer asked me to help with the. . . Kraken issue going on. I’m running low on mana, think you could help me out?”
You didn’t even need to think twice. Grabbing your spell deck and wand, you twisted the ring around your finger, teleporting you to Hoseok’s location. Swirlings of dust and lightning swirled around you, consuming your vision. Just as soon as it appeared, the dust fell away, revealing Hoseok facing off the Kraken in battle, the everpresent thunder clouds of Triton Avenue overhead.
Immediately, you ran towards Hoseok, taking place beside him on the battle sigil. In front of you was the fearsome Kraken that lived in the caves beneath the city. You’d spent most of your childhood admiring the creature whenever it crawled out from its hiding place between Four Falls Mills so to see it up close was both terrifying and awe inspiring. If it wasn’t actively trying to kill your friend, you would’ve thought it a thing of beauty.
“How in all of the Spiral, did you end up here?” You shouted, pulling out your spell deck.
“Sohomer asked me to do a favor and that led to another favor, and another favor. . .” He responded, summoning another spark, barely hitting the creature. “Been using no mana spells to try and break it down bit by bit, but I need a heavy hitter. . . I don’t have enough for it myself!”
Eyeing through your deck, you knew exactly what spell to cast, but you’d need to build up to it in order for it to take down the Kraken. With a wave of your wand, you drew out the scales of your school, and a Balance blade formed over your head, circling around you.
After your turn, the creature waved his hand, the divination symbol appearing in front of him. A thunderous cloud formed overhead, screeching echoed as three lightning bats appeared out of the darkness, swirling around Hoseok. He let out a grunt as he covered his head, trying to cover himself from the attack.
“Any time now would be appreciated!”
“Alright!” Once it was your turn again, you waved your wand, summoning the Judgment. The seraph flew out from the center of the battle sigil, sword and scales in hand. You and Hoseok stared up at her with baited breath as she clanged her sword against the scales, sparking at the Kraken. The creature wailed, falling back at the hit before crawling back into its cave. Defeated.
Both of you stood there for a moment, panting in the aftermath of the battle.
“I hope. . . whatever Sohomer needed was worth all that.”
“Oh yeah, definitely.” Hoseok held up a fully charged storm crystal.
You looked at one another, quiet before both of you bursting into tired laughter. “Well. . . guess we could cross the Kraken off our bucket lists,” you huffed as you and Hoseok started back towards the exit portal, back towards the Storm Mill.
“You could say that again,” Hoseok chuckled. “But you really saved me back there, thank you.”
You gave a shrug. “You would’ve done the same for me.”
“Tell you what: after Sohomer gives me that reward, we head to the fairgrounds. I think we deserve some time off.” He shot you a wink as he spoke.
Feeling heat rush to your cheeks, you nodded. “Sounds like a plan.”
