No Choice to Make: Arrow 2x07 Review (State v. Queen)
Is there anything better than Oliver saving Felicity? The correct answer is no. Of course, my feminist side is screaming Felicity can take care of herself (and does in most circumstances), but my inner Gloria Steinem needs to zip it. I want romance novel heroism and “State v. Queen” delivers on a swoon worthy level.
Let’s dig in…
Olicity
This is easily my favorite Oliver protecting Felicity moment because there are so many nuances in their two primary scenes. However, to understand those nuances we have to review a little background information.
The Count escaped from Iron Heights during the earthquake (and released the Dollmaker while he was at it). I love this explanation for returning villains because it makes total sense. Logic in Arrow is rare jewel – treasure the moment.
Moira's trial is under way, but Diggle is not feeling well. Oliver sends John home, but he collapses in the bunker.
Oliver: I heard you passed out.
Diggle: I told Felicity not to call you.
Felicity: Yeah, but before that you said ‘gaw’ and ‘thud’ so I didn’t take it very seriously.
Felicity has John's blood tested and there are trace amounts of Vertigo in his system. They try Oliver’s antidote, but it doesn’t work. Adam Donner, the lawyer prosecuting Moira, also collapses in court due to Vertigo poisoning. The Count kidnaps him and forces him to take the drug to alleviate the withdrawal symptoms. It’s broadcasted live, so everyone affected knows the only cure is Vertigo.
I feel I would make a pretty good drug lord after watching Breaking Bad, Power and Queen of the South. The key to success is return customers, so this is not a half bad plan. You have to admire the Count’s industriousness. Ghost and Walter White would definitely approve.
Oliver hoods up after Felicity tracks Adam Donner’s location through the city seal of the Starling Municipal Records Department, which is reflected in Donner’s eye. Ok, so science is not sciencing in this episode. Felicity is immediately concerned about Oliver.
Felicity: I know what you're thinking.
Oliver: No you don't. I made a choice not put an arrow in this guy and it was the right choice. There’s no more killing.
Felicity was concerned Oliver would regret allowing The Count to live, but it’s just the opposite. He’s doubling down on his vow to Tommy. Oliver is not a conflicted man. He knows he made the right call. That's called growth, my friends.
Felicity’s little assertive nod means she backs Oliver’s decision one hundred percent. In fact, I’m sure she had a whole speech prepared for why not killing The Count was the right thing to do. It’s not just Oliver who believes there is a better way – Felicity and Diggle believe it too. This is as much their mission as it is Oliver’s. They also made a vow to Tommy to do better.
Unfortunately, The Count has caught wind that The Arrow’s aim is not lethal these days. The Count holds his arms wide open – an easy shot – and taunts Oliver to kill him, while Donner is held hostage by a henchman. It’s always a bit of a pickle to determine how Oliver is going to get himself out of these situations without killing. I’m all in favor of the vow he made, but killing does have some practical applications.
Of course, Oliver always finds another way. He fires on some flammable canisters, which creates a fire in a drug factory – clearly against OSHA regulations. Oliver spins and throws a flechette into the henchman’s arm, so he drops Donner and they make their escape.
THIS SCENE IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. REMEMBER WHAT OLIVER DID.
Felicity and Diggle determine the common denominator between all those poisoned with Vertigo is a flu vaccine, but they need to be sure. Oliver is busy with his mother’s trial at the courthouse and Diggle can barely walk. Felicity decides recon is on her tonight and seeks out the vaccine distribution van. Low and behold, there is an entire shelf of Vertigo in the van, but The Count catches Felicity as she snoops.
Oliver and Thea are waiting for their mother’s verdict, which could be coming at any moment, when he receives a call from Felicity. But it’s not Felicity. It’s The Count.
The Count: Oliver? Is it okay if I call you Oliver? Surprised to hear from me, right? Not as surprised as I was. You see, I find this… not unattractive blonde getting all up in my business. And what does she have on her?
Source: laurelscanary
Oliver can hear Felicity crying on the other line and closes his eyes in absolute horror when he realizes she’s being held hostage.
The Count: A Queen Consolidated ID badge. Now, I think to myself, why does that name ring a bell? Oliver Queen. He tried to buy off me last year just before the hood put me in a padded cell. Ipso facto, ARROW.
Source: laurelscanary
Oliver doesn’t bother to contain his rage and without a second thought leaves the courthouse. Thea calls after him, reminding him that the jury will have a verdict anytime. All Oliver can tell her is that something came up at the office, but he cannot hide shakiness in his voice. Oliver is afraid.
Oliver arrives at Queen Consolidated, suit on but hood down. For practical purposes, he doesn’t need to conceal his identity from The Count because he already figured it out – something so many other characters have failed to do with much more information than he had.
But from a symbolical perspective, the hood down is crucially important. Oliver is not here as The Arrow. He is here as Oliver Queen. This is personal to him. So much of this series is about Oliver struggling to reconcile his two halves – the hood and the man, but Felicity is one of the few people who truly knows both sides. He doesn’t have to hide with her.
Oliver approaches very slowly. He recognizes The Count has the upper hand and he cannot afford any mistakes. Felicity is zip tied to a chair and The Count holds a gun on her while he strokes her ponytail. That action alone sends the creep factor sky high.
Source: @yet-i-remain-quiet
There is a sexual element to Felicity’s kidnapping. The Count referenced her attractiveness on the phone with Oliver. Now he’s stroking her ponytail. Oliver asks The Count what he wants and he responds, “World peace and personal satisfaction. Though not necessarily in that order.” He massages Felicity’s shoulders at “personal satisfaction” in the grossest way possible.
Source: @yet-i-remain-quiet
It’s a thinly veiled threat of sexual assault, which does not go unnoticed by Oliver. There are few things worse than rape and it serves to amplify Felicity’s terror and Oliver’s powerlessness and rage. If the writers intended to keep Oliver and Felicity strictly platonic they would not introduce this terribly disturbing aspect into the scene.
The Count monologues for a bit longer and tells Oliver someone else hates him almost as much. This mysterious benefactor funded the Vertigo operation, so The Count could draw The Arrow out and kill him. (Spoiler alert: it was Blood).
The Count gets the drop on Oliver and fires off a couple rounds. It forces Oliver to run and dive behind a couch. It always surprised me The Count was able to get the upper hand in this moment, which points to Oliver’s fear for Felicity more than anything. He’s not thinking strategically when it’s her life in danger. He can’t.
The Count cuts the zip ties and grabs Felicity by the ponytail. He drags her to the spot where Oliver was hiding, ready to finish him off, but this time Oliver gets the drop on him. He points an arrow squarely at The Count’s chest, but he is using Felicity as a shield. The Count holds two syringes of Vertigo (a lethal dose) to Felicity’s neck. It’s important to remember Oliver’s antidote for Vertigo did not work on Diggle.
Source: @yet-i-remain-quiet
Don’t ever say to me Felicity Smoak is not a hero. She was willing to die to keep Oliver’s vow to Tommy. Felicity was ready to trade her life for Oliver’s soul. She believes in Oliver, and their mission, that much. What's madness is thinking Oliver would put the vow before her life.
The Count orders Oliver to lower his bow, which he does and tosses the arrow to the floor. Then we see him do something Oliver never does – he tries to negotiate.
Again, Oliver doesn’t bother to hide the fear in his voice which makes the negotiating sound a lot like begging.
The Count: Consider this your penalty for making me go to plan B in the first place.
The Count raises the syringes to Felicity’s neck and Oliver manages to pull not one, but three arrows in rapid succession - killing The Count.
The look on Oliver’s face when he fires the arrows, tell me two things. First, this kill is emotional. When Oliver shoots to kill he typically only needs one arrow. The Arrow never misses. Three arrows is excessive. It is literally overkill which means one thing – pure rage.
Second, the act is instinctual. The rapid succession in which he fires the arrows shows there is something programmed deep in Oliver’s bones to protect Felicity. Her life was threatened and his body simply reacted.
Felicity drops to the floor and The Count crashes through the window. Oliver closes his eyes and exhales like he’s been holding his breath the entire time. I think it is part relief and part regret. He doesn’t regret killing that bastard, but regrets he couldn’t find another way this time.
Or was there? Upon this rewatch I noticed a couple things. First, Laurel was held hostage by the Dollmaker and Oliver did not kill him. (Sara did the honors that time). But consider the scene with Donner. Oliver threw a flechette into the henchman’s hand to free Donner. The henchman let go of Donner as a reflex to the pain. Could Oliver attempt the same with Felicity? Would a flechette in The Count’s arm free her as well?
The point is we’ll never know. Oliver made a calculated risk at the municipal when he fired on the flammable liquid and injured, but didn’t kill, The Count’s henchman. Oliver was willing to take the risk when Donner and Laurel were involved, but not Felicity.
I’ve been watching a lot of Bridgerton, so the next scene screams romance novel to me.
Source: AARONSWARNER
Oliver makes his way to Felicity who remains crouched on the floor and crying. He gets down on one knee and tenderly touches her shoulder.
Source: AARONSWARNER
Felicity immediately flinches in fear at his touch, so Oliver in a voice so soft it’s almost a whisper, gently reassures her. She finally looks up and sees Oliver staring back at her with concern and love. She exhales with relief.
Source: AARONSWARNER
The shock wears off quickly once she hears Oliver’s voice and feels his hand on her shoulder. Oliver’s first thought is for Felicity, but her first thought is for him. SHIP COUPLES WHO WORRY ABOUT EACH OTHER FOR CLEAR SKIN.
Source: AARONSWARNER
Oliver moves his uninjured arm from Felicity’s shoulder and cups her face. The man has an actual bullet in his shoulder, but can feel no pain because Felicity Smoak is alive and safe. She is all that matters to him.
Source: AARONSWARNER
These physical moments are no small thing. Oliver keeps an extremely rigged line with Felicity that he rarely crosses. Shoulder touches are the maximum physical contact he allows and even those are on rare occasion. But she almost died tonight, so Oliver allows himself to take it one step further and touches Felicity’s face. Oliver’s whispered reassurances in his reserved-for-Felicity-only voice unveil the real intimacy between them. He comforts her. Not in the way Oliver would like, but in the way he can allow. The line is still there, but it’s blurred at the moment.
There is no moment which better encapsulates the two sides of Oliver Queen than this scene. One moment he is a rage filled killer and the next he is a soft spoken, loving and tender man. It is not an accident the two sides merge into one for her. Darkness and light working in perfect cohesion to be the hero Felicity Smoak needed.
Source: @laurelscanary
Oliver makes his way back to the courthouse. He is so visibly shaken that Thea asks Oliver if he’s okay. She touches his injured shoulder and Oliver flinches, but it’s not the bullet that’s bothering him. He came too close to losing Felicity. Way too close.
Source: @laurelscanary
Sadly, this somewhat reinforces what Oliver said to Felicity in 2x06. There is a direct correlation between proximity to Oliver and danger, so he thinks it’s better to remain emotionally unattached. In his mind, keeping Felicity at arm’s length means keeping her safe.
But there’s what Oliver says and what he feels. He can refuse to acknowledge or act upon his feelings for Felicity, but that does not eradicate them. If Oliver is truly worried about proximity then why does he allow Felicity to be part of the team? Two reasons, Oliver needs Felicity and firmly believes they can protect her. But this was a frightening close call and Oliver’s fear is stemming from a more than friendly place. Felicity Smoak has become too important to him and it is scaring the crap out of him.
Source: FERRISBUELLER
Oliver returns to the bunker after his mother’s verdict to check on Diggle and Felicity. The way he looks Felicity up and down y’all is… a lot. Queen Consolidated is formulating a non addictive antidote for the people with Vertigo poisoning. Moira is not guilty. All’s well that ends well, so Oliver tells Diggle and Felicity to go home and rest.
But Felicity needs to get something off her chest.
Felicity: Oliver, I uh…
The way this man spins at the sound of her voice like he's a golden retriever who saw a squirrel. He is so gone for this woman.
Felicity: I just wanted to say thank you.
Oliver: (nods) Yeah.
Source: laurelscanary
He truly cannot fathom what she is apologizing for and steps much closer than necessary.
Source: laurelscanary
It seems Felicity has inherited a little bit of Oliver’s guilt complex. YOU WERE KIDNAPPED MY PRECIOUS CUPCAKE!!!
Source: laurelscanary
HE. TAKES. HER. HAND. We had a shoulder touch, tender face caressing and now holding hands. At this point, this equivalent to first base for these two. MY BRAIN SHORT CIRCUITED.
Source: laurelscanary
Earlier in the episode, Oliver and Felicity discussed not killing The Count previously and how it was the right decision. Oliver’s certainty in the rightness of the decision solidifies his commitment to his vow to Tommy. It is not something Oliver is questioning or wavering on.
But Oliver is not qualifying what happened to Felicity in those terms. This is not about right or wrong. In fact, it wasn’t a decision at all. Oliver was not calculating the risks. Oliver was not thinking about a vow, or honoring his best friend, or the mission. His only thought was Felicity and her safety. Oliver simply reacted. All he could see was Felicity. All he could feel was the unbridled rage that came from anyone threatening her life. It is programmed deep into Oliver’s bones to protect Felicity. There is no rational thought when it comes to her.
Nor does he care if it was right or wrong now. Oliver is not Monday morning quarterbacking the situation. Someone raised a hand to her, so that person is dead. End of discussion.
There is a war happening between Oliver’s mind and his heart. Oliver was clearly thinking with his head when he told Felicity in 2x06 that he will not allow himself to love her. But this episode was a completely different story. Sometimes life and death circumstances bring a much needed moment of clarity. Oliver may believe he has a choice whether or not he loves Felicity, but his actions show his heart knows different. There is no choice to make.
Moira Queen
The trial is not going well, so Moira is forced to testify. Laurel is lead prosecutor now that Donner is infected with Vertigo. "Conflict of Interest" is flashing in a neon sign. On any planet in the solar system, Laurel would recuse herself. THE INSANITY GIVES ME A MIGRAINE.
Laurel also decides she’d like to get disbarred and visits Moira in prison because they are “family." Yack. Give me a break. She doesn’t want Moira to take the stand because Laurel will have to prosecute her to the best of her ability and use their smoking gun. Sure, because now she cares about legal procedure.
So, Moira comes clean to Oliver and Thea and tells them she had a one night stand with Malcolm Merlyn while married to their father. The kids are shocked to say the least. Oliver has a solid case of the yicks. Thea is more than a little angry since she accused her mother of having an affair with Merlyn last year. Moira assures Thea it was not an affair, so technically she didn’t lie. Moira should teach Professional Gaslighting 101.
Inexplicably, Moira is found not guilty. (In my notes: Hahaha suck it Laurel)
Even Oliver is wondering what the fuck just happened. Upon release from prison, Moira is driven to a secret location to meet up with none other than MALCOLM MERLYN. His explanation for being alive is basically, “I’m a super awesome actor and faked it.” Oliver – did you check his pulse? What happened to the body? Did we miss a step Team Arrow? CLEARLY WE DID.
Merlyn bought the jury and Moira’s freedom (Ummm thanks I guess?) so he can deliver the second bomb. He ran a DNA test and knows he’s Thea’s father. PLOT TWIST! Honestly, this makes a lot of sense. I wasn't that surprised. Thea looks more like Tommy than she does Oliver.
Wait, this means Thea kissed her brother. Are we just going to Star Wars this and never talk about it again? Works for me.
Stray Thoughts
Oh shut up Laurel. Quit your bitching - me every time she opens her mouth lately.
Ivo is looking for the hosen because it contains coordinates to a sub that sunk in WWII. Whatever is on the sub can save the world. Shado and Oliver hope it can save Slade, so Team Island is going on a submarine field trip!
Slade has burns on half his body and yet he can still move. The man is not human.
"I have this thing about needles, all pointy things, which is ironic given who we work for.” I just love her so much.
David Ramsey is so enormous he doesn’t fit on the table. The mind cannot conceive of all that muscle.
“Mom secrets are what put you into this situation. Secrets and lies. And now is the time to give truth its day.” Oh the irony, Oliver.
Donner took drugs on live television. Re-election is going to be a real bitch for the DA.
I like the Thea’s boxing moment with Roy. Nice foreshadowing. Girl is going to have a lot of rage to work through.
Laurel did make a good point about Walter and Merlyn. See? I can be positive about her.
OLIVER. STOP. ASKING. LAUREL. IF. SHE. IS. OK. Her whole “how can you possibly forgive me” speech was also nauseating and not believable. I like her better drunk.
“I’m pretty sure they aren’t interested in Buddhism.” Slade is burned over half his body but he jokes.
30-30-175-12 I’m sure that has something to do with the comics but I don’t care.
Some guy named Cyrus survived Blood’s Frankenstein experiment. So that’s not good.

This one was posted September 3, 2023. The lists are almost completely up to date.
𝑺𝒆𝒂𝒔𝒐𝒏 𝟏 𝑬𝒑𝒊𝒔𝒐𝒅𝒆 𝟒: 𝑨𝒏 𝑰𝒏𝒏𝒐𝒄𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝑴𝒂𝒏 (𝑷𝒂𝒓𝒕 𝟐)
The Elevator at Queen Consolidated dings as Felicity walks out of it and into Walter's office.
As she barges through the doors she starts speaking, "I have one question. Why am I being fired?"
"Ms. Smoak, is it?" Walter asked
"Yes."
She spoke up again. "I am the single most valuable member of the technical division. Even above the so called " supervisor." Firing me would be a huge mistake."
"I agree. Which is why you're not."
"Oh- I assumed when you called me up here-"
"I need you to look into something for me."
He handed her a file.
"The variance of 2.6 million on a failed investment. It was authorized by my wife.."
"I'd.. Like you to figure out some of the details of the transaction."
"Find out.."
"Discreetly."
"Well.. I'm your Girl." She said as she began walking off with the file.
She turned back around "I'm not your girl, I wasn't making a pass at you."
As she walked out the door, she said "thank you for not firing me."
Matt Istook unlocked his car and was about to get in, as a Tranq dart hit his neck.
He took it out as he faded into unconsciousness.. And woke up, handcuffed to the train tracks.
As he woke up, he saw the Hood as he said his name.
"Matt Istook."
"You-you're that Hood guy! Who's been terrorizing everyone in this city."
"You're lies put Peter Declan on Death row."
"Now you're either gonna tell the truth, or you're gonna meet the 10:15 to Blüdhaven."
He starts stammering "o-okay, I- Brodeur paid me to say Camille never spoke to me. But I had nothing to do with her death!"
"Oh god please! I'll do anything.."
"Y-you can have the file!"
"What file." The Hood said
"Camille gave me a file with evidence on Jason Brodeur."
"Where is it?! He yelled
"Let me go and I'll tell you."
The Hood walked behind him, out of sight.
The train horn sounded
"Wait wait! It's in my desk! At the office-you can have it. please don't go!"
➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳
The Hood shoots an arrow, breaking the chain on the handcuffs, freeing Istook in just enough time for him to get to safety.
*Flashback*
Oliver looked over at Yao Fei, who was cooking. He hasn't eaten since the raft and was weak and beyond hungry.
"What is that?"
"It smells really good.. I'm so hungry."
Oliver tried touching the bird Yao Fei was cooking on a stick. But his hand was slapped away.
"Ow!"
"Fine... Don't share."
Yao Fei points at the other bird in the cage and says "Shengcún."
"𝐈'𝐦 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐠𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚 𝐤𝐢𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐛𝐢𝐫𝐝."
"𝐒𝐡𝐞𝐧𝐠𝐜𝐮́𝐧"
Laurel was typing on her computer when the lights went out.
➴◈◉◈➶◈◉◈➴◈◉◈➶◈◉◈➴◈◉◈➶◈◉◈➴◈◉◈➶
As a file was dropped on her desk, the Hood said "Compliments of Matt Istook."
"What is it?"
"Leverage on Jason Brodeur, enough to save Peter Declan's life"
"As an attorney.. I never would've gotten this."
"I was always told going outside of the law wasn't the right way.."
"And now Laurel?"
"I think there's too many people in this city willing to only fight for themselves."
"I think they do need someone like you.."
Oliver walked into the middle Hallway of the mansion where Thea saw him practically glowing.
"Oh my god. What's wrong with your face?"
"It's something on your mouth.. It almost in the shape of a smile."
"Cute." Oliver said sarcastically
"So why are you so smiley?"
"I-I took your advice with Laurel... And I think it's starting to work."
"I've got mad relationship skills bro." Said Thea with a little smirk
"Let me know if you need any trendy places to propose."
"I think you're getting ahead of yourself."
"A little bit." He said as Thea walked off
Rob walked through the door and Oliver just smiled.
"Rob. You gotta keep up."
The next day, Quentin walks into CNRI, where Laurel is busy at work.
"Is that the Declan case?" He asks
"You know.. There was a funny development with that."
"Matt Istook filed a police report. He said he was attacked by the hood."
"And, you know I was thinking.. I gave my daughter Istook's name."
"What, you think I have a personal line to a vigilante now?" Laurel responded, annoyed.
"I don't know how you did it- point is.. He's a damned criminal! And now you're an accessory."
She sighed.
"Okay, fine. You caught me. But I am only doing what I have to in order to save an Innocent man's life."
"And I'll bet that's the same justification this... Vigilante uses."
"You are breaking the law!" He said exasperated
"Maybe it wouldn't have to come to this if the police would've done their job in the first place." She said stubbornly
"I asked you how you got this case, and you lied straight to my face."
"I thought we didn't do that."
"Guess I was wrong." He said walking away.
She sighed, knowing it was too late in her life to ever be 100% honest with him again.
In the Judges office Laurel meets with the Judge and Brodeur, and his lawyers.
✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠
"The existence of the file proves Istook lied on Brodeur's behalf."
"That's slander. Jared Swanstrom. I represent Jason Brodeur and Brodeur chemical."
"The newly discovered evidence requires a stay of execution in the interest of justice."
"Ours isn't a court of justice. It's one of law. I don't think this enough to warrant a stay of execution." The judge said sternly
"Your motion for habeas corpus is denied."
As Jason's Lawyer shakes the judge's hand, Laurel turns to speak to him
"This isn't over. I found the loose end. And I'm gonna pull on it no matter what happens, until your whole world unravels."
Brodeur is worried as he speaks
✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠♫✧𖣠
"Declan's Lawyer is gonna get me sent to prison! If not for murder, than this Toxic dumping!"
"There are steps we can take to prevent that." Said one of his men
"You see her."
"She's going after me!" He yelled
"She'll want to meet with her client after what happened here today.. And we have friends at Iron Heights."
"And well... Prison can be a dangerous place."
Back on the rooftop, the Hood speaks with Laurel again.
"We're not done yet."
"Within the bounds of the law, this is all that can be done."
"What would you need to free Peter Declan?" He asks
"..Well at this point, I'd say they'd accept nothing less than a signed confession from Brodeur." She sighed.
He walks towards the end of the roof.
"What are you doing?"
"I'm getting that confession."
Back in Walter's office, Felicity returns with information.
"The company Mrs. Queen- or Steele?"
"Mrs. Queen-Steele? Does she hyphenate? She seems like she would."
Walter clears his throat.
"Right!"
"The company she invested in, doesn't exist."
"I'm sorry, I don't understand." He said
"It wasn't an investment. The money was used for an offshore LLC called Tempest."
"I don't recall that name being under the Queen Consolidated banner." He says in confusion.
"That's because it isn't. Even legally it doesn't exist. No governmental records such as taxes, it isn't registered with the secretary of state.."
"But... In 2009. Tempest purchased a warehouse in Starling City."
Back at Big Belly Burger, Carly walks up to John as he sits at a Table by himself.
"Okay, enough moping. You quit. It's over."
"I think you should move on."
"If only it were that easy.."
"It is. This job is dangerous, your nephew already lost his father.. He can't lose you too."
"Does it ever bothe you.. Andy's killer wasn't caught?" He asks
She looks off guard
"In Afghanistan, when I had a job, I did it."
"And I'd help where I could, and believe it was a better place when I'd left."
"But now all I do is protect punks and spoiled one percenters."
"I miss the feeling that I'm making a difference in the world."
"Then stop. Do something you believe in." She said
"But what if it's wrong."
"If you believe in it.. How could it be wrong?" She asks with a genuine smile
In Brodeur's office the hood was aiming an arrow at the man.
➴◈◉◈➶◈◉◈➴◈◉◈➶◈◉◈➴◈◉◈➶◈◉◈➴◈◉◈➶
"Jason Brodeur." He said in a harsh and deep tone of voice
"What do you want?"
"You're going to admit to having Peter Declan's wife killed."
"Why? So I can take his place?"
"So you can avoid the death penalty." He said
"Except you need me to exonerate him. Maybe you'll try and force me to sign a confession-"
He was cut off by his own scream of pain as an arrow flew through his hand, pinning it to the wall.
"Might be difficult."
From his pocket, his cellphone rung.
"My hand!"
The hood took the phone out of his pocket and held it near his face.
"Answer the phone!"
As the hood clicked the answer button a voice said.
"It's going down in an hour."
He hung up.
"What's going down in an hour.?"
He didn't respond so he yelled "what?!"
"Let's just say the execution is getting moved up."
The hood growls and punches him in the face, knocking him out.
Laurel is sitting across Peter Declan in It on Heights.

"Please don't give up on yourself. I told you my friend is working on something, he just needs some more time."
The Hood jumps down and knocks out a guard on the outer perimeter, stealing his uniform.
"I don't have more time Miss Lance."
A guard on the inside opens the door, letting one of Brodeur's men in.
"Unlock the cages." He says as he hands the guard a check.
"I'm gonna die tomorrow. Don't you think I've been here before? All these lawyers holding out false hope?"
Then the alarms begin blaring. And Prisoners begin running rampant.
The guard's walkie talkie beeps as the warden talks.
"The Warden is setting up a secure perimeter in cell block C. Stay here Miss Lance."
He ran off out the door.
"Wait!" She said following after him
As her and Declan raced out the door, guards were getting beaten on by multiple prisoners. She had to think if now was the time to fight, or wait on the hood to show up and save them.
Sure, she could easily handle these barbarians.. But there were so many people, was she really willing to risk revealing her secrets right now.
They enter the caged in area where prisoners are continuing to attack guards.
A prisoner aims a gun at Laurel, but the second he does an arrow flies into the man.
"Let's go."
They follow the hood, who is disguised as a prison guard.
They get chased by more escaping prisoners, and as they make it to a hallway, The Hood gets grabbed.
He flips the man over, grabs Laurel's hand and they continue to run, now the police on their tails.
As they make it into another room. A prisoner punches the hood, and the force sends his bow flying and him to the floor.
Declan moved backwards slowly, and the man grabbed Laurel, throwing her into a chain link fence. He threw her to the floor and began choking her.
She looked over to see the Hood still on the ground, and she grabbed a sharp object by her side, presumably a makeshift prisoner weapon...
She was beginning to struggle breathing when the hood got back up and saw what was happening. Laurel stabbed the man in the shoulder blade as The Hood lunged at him knocking him off of her, the man screamed in pain from the object.
The Hood didn't take anytime to process it as he was filled with Violent rage and began punching and beating on the man.
As Laurel regained her composure she began to get up.
"Stop." She said
At first, he was on edge and growled as he was about to attack, but as he realized it was her he calmed down.
As the guards came in and began making orders he looked guilty and said "Laurel."
But it was time for all of them to go.
Laurel was outside in front of a cop car when Quentin came running to her as he said her name, and they hugged.

"Sweetie."
"I'm okay." She said
"Are you sure?" He asked as he let go from the hug.
"I'm sorry.. I was unkind earlier." She sighed.
She had a lot of that going around lately. To her father, To Oliver.. And to Tommy. She just needed to figure her life out again.
"You were right.. Ankov confessed to Camillie's murder. So we got the wrong guy."
She looked down as he said the next part.
"But I'm right too. He's dangerous."
"He's outside the law."

"You know, I was hesitant about making these sacrifices, without formally inviting you to the association. Hell, I wasn't even sure you'd have much to offer me, Ms. Lance."
"But something about you, draws you to me. And I'm more than happy to teach you still. After all... You are a fast learner."
"But I'm still not doing it for free."
"But of course not." Laurel's snide tone poked through, she was a little over 20
"It's simple really. At some point, I feel if we go to far we may end up with trouble in Starling City... And for me and my select few.. Friends. I want you to make sure nothing happens to us by the law."
"So you want me to forge the law, if this much less than legal organization is exposed?"
"In a sense yes. Your loyalty to the law.. It will come second to me."
"I promise."
"I know." She responded to her father.
"He's a killer."
*Flashback*
"Can I trust you, Laurel?"
"Yes."
"Sometimes, the law alone isn't enough to fix things. Sometimes it comes down to your own ability.." Laurel admitted, at this point in her life she had a hope decay.
"I'm surprised you stayed this long. Even your mother didn't. When given the chance, many would jump at it."
"We'd be honored to have you. You are even much better then some of the girls I have trained since childhood."
"If I can trust you with my name, our destiny's will forever be through this league."
"I agree."
"You can call me Sandra on your day off." The woman's voice had the hint of a smile hidden in it.
"We begin."
"He would've killed that man."

"Are you certain you won't reconsider joining us officially?"
"You could make such a good difference here with us."
"It's not out of the cards for me yet, Sandra."
The screen panned up to the hood who took off the ski mask, and he looked down.

The bird still in the woven cage was chirping.
"Please, I'm starving." Oliver begged
"I've never killed anything before."
As the hunger got the best of him, Oliver grabbed the bird from the cage.
He looked up, saying "I'm sorry." As he snapped it's neck.
The sirens were still going off as lance said "Let's get you home."
➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳➳
"I wonder how he got into that prison anyway.. A grown man in a green hood kind sticks out, doesn't it?"
"Actually.. He was dressed as one of the guards, with a ski mask."
She noticed a visibly shocked expression form on his face.
"What did I say?"
"Nothing, just had an idea." He says
She side-eyed him suspiciously as she stepped into the car.
Walter made his way to the Warehouse, where there was a keypad on the door.
He typed Tempest, but it was wrong.
Then Oliver. Wrong again.
Then Thea, still wrong.
As he typed Robert, it unlocked. And when he went inside and turned on the lights, his face was one of pure shock as he saw the Queen's Gambit, now torn in half.
Now at the Police Station, Quentin and the Tech support are looking through the footage from the shooting at the exchange building.
➴◈◉◈➶◈◉◈➴◈◉◈➶◈◉◈➴◈◉◈➶◈◉◈➴◈◉◈➶
"Yeah this is from the exchange building, but I already scrubbed through all of it." Said the IT guy.
"Yeah.. Well we're doing it again."
"When you went through it last time, you were just looking for a man in a green hood, right?"
"What was I supposed to look for? A man in a tutu wearing a wig?"
Lance rolls his eyes and gives attitude when he speaks up.
"Just look for anything out of the ordinary, okay?"
They look through the tape, and Quentin looks suspiciously at Oliver.
"Go back 10 seconds."
He sees him with a dufflebag and says "I'll be damned."
Laurel and Peter Declan were walking through the park to meet up with Izzy.
"Thank you for everything Laurel."
"Don't thank me. This was all the doing of our... Mutual friend." She said with a smile.
"Someone has been waiting a long time to see you."
He saw his daughter, older now and they ran to each other, and began hugging.
Back in the Hideout, Oliver watches the news as he crosses out Jason Brodeur's name on the list.

"If you want survive this place, bird not last thing you kill."
Yao Fei picked up Oliver's picture.
"And forget her. You look all day. You won't survive."
Moira was walking towards a limo in a parking lot, belonging to Malcolm Merlyn.
"You wanted to see me?" She says
"You seem nervous Moira."
"Do I have a reason to be?"
"We all do. The modern Robin Hood.."
"What? You're worried your net worth makes you a target." Moira asks

Oliver walked into his living room and saw Diggle staring out the window.
"If you're here about the bodyguard position... The new guy did just quit."
"I'm here for the other position." Dig said
Oliver looked surprised as he spoke.
"And I'm not signing on as a sidekick."
"But you were right. Someone needs to fight for this city.. And you'll do it with or without me."
"Except with my help... You'll have less casualties, yourself included."
"Diggle, I'm not looking for anyone to save me."
"But you still need it, a person to remind you of your humanity when the warzone takes over. When it scrapes off little pieces of your soul. "
Just then the doors burst open and the cops rush in.
From the other part of the house Walter says "You can't just barge in here!"
"I have a badge and gun that say different." Lance says as he continues
Oliver and Dig rush in.
"What the hell is going on?!" Oliver says
"Oliver what's happening?" Thea calls from the top of the stairs upon hearing the commotion.
Oliver is handcuffed.
"Oliver Queen you are under arrest for suspicion of obstruction of justice, aggravated assault-"
"Walter! Stop them!" Thea pleads
"-acting as a vigilante."
"Are you out of you mind?!"
"And murder."
As they read him his rights and take him away, the family behind looks beyond, shocked and Walter starts making calls.
I am so excited to do more Canary, and Laurel training flashbacks. But I'm also worried about giving away too much too early. But this is gonna be so fun.

->Discovery of Oliver's Secret Identity:
One evening, during a lavish party at the Queen mansion, chaos erupted as intruders infiltrated the premises, sending guests fleeing for safety. Amidst the confusion, April found herself separated from her family, lost in the crowd as panic spread throughout the house.
As she sought refuge on an upper floor, April stumbled upon a masked figure clad in green, engaged in a fierce battle with the intruders across the hall. Fear gripped her as she instinctively reached for the nearest objects, hurling them towards the intruder in a desperate attempt to defend herself.
To her surprise, the masked figure approached her with caution, his voice gentle and reassuring as he spoke. April's initial fear gave way to curiosity as the figure revealed himself to be none other than her uncle, Oliver Queen, known to the world as the vigilante Green Arrow.
In disbelief, April questioned Oliver's motives and identity, uncertain of whether to trust him. However, Oliver's gentle demeanor and familiarity with her family's history convinced her of his sincerity.
With a mixture of shock and awe, April watched as Oliver removed his hood, revealing his face beneath the mask. In that moment, the pieces of the puzzle fell into place, and April realized the truth about her uncle's secret identity.
Overwhelmed by the revelation, April struggled to comprehend the implications of Oliver's double life as both her beloved uncle and the masked vigilante who fought to protect their city. However, as Oliver extended his hand in reassurance, April made a silent promise to keep his secret, knowing that their bond as family was stronger than any mask or disguise.
With a newfound sense of understanding and connection, April emerged from the encounter with a deeper appreciation for her uncle's heroism and the sacrifices he made to keep their family safe. Though April also knows how to handle firearms, her favorite weapon of choice is a crossbow. She finds comfort and familiarity in the weapon's design and mechanics, favoring its precision and versatility in combat situations.
Whether at home or at the Arrow Cave, April can often be found practicing her marksmanship with her crossbow, fine-tuning her aim and mastering her technique. She approaches each shot with determination and focus, channeling her passion and conviction into every arrow she looses.
As she grows in skill and confidence, April embraces her aunt Thea's words of wisdom, remembering what she's fighting for with every shot she takes.
The quote, "If you remember what you're fighting for, you'll never miss your target.”, becomes a mantra for April, guiding her in both her marksmanship and her life's journey as a guardian of justice and defender of her family.

Just had a vague fic idea
Hartley moved to Starling after being disowned (not long after Oliver gets shipwrecked), moved into a cheap apartment in the Glades despite Moira's frantic insistence on helping him and having him live *anywhere* else. Hartley's being prideful and he can afford this cheap apartment all on his own. Moira figures she's got a few years to talk him out of there.
However, Hartley's pride to do it all on his own lasts until his hot water heater dies and starts spitting out rusty water... and he learns that all the water heaters in the building are doing this, the first one having given out over a year ago. Shitty landlord is doing nothing to fix this.
So Hartley goes to Laurel because this exactly what CNRI helps with and not only does Laurel get them their new water heaters but she gets it to where the tennants now own their apartments/collectively own the building because the landlord cannot afford to pay back all the money they won in court and Hartley thought it'd be funny if they could trick the guy into putting up the deed to the building as collatoral in such a way that failing to pay real monies by x date meant forfeiting the deed in the place of the money. Which means as long as the taxes and utilities on the building get paid... no one living in there owes rent anymore because they are their own landlords now.
Community garden goes up on the roof 'cause who is gonna tell them 'no' now? They pool together funds for new washer/dryers for the laundry room on the first floor, it's great.
Hartley - So how many other buildings does this guy own?
Laurel - *sees where Hartley is going with this* By the time we're done with him, zero.
Eventually they become the Pied Piper and The Black Canary 'cause they're just... cleaning up the neighborhoods one sleezy landlord at a time. And sometimes this means sneaking into buildings late at night to peek at the paperwork. Or 'borrow' paperwork.
Malcolm can't figure out who their alter egos really are, it's pissing him off so bad. He figures they've gotta be amateurs though, right? He can go in as the Dark Archer and scare (or kill) them off. He... did not expect the sonic tech.

The Canary: Arrow 2x05 Review (League of Assassins)
Yeesh there is a lot of Lance drama in the beginning of Season 2. We finally get the backstory on Sara, but it’s the spectacular Oliver and Laurel scene that has me cackling.
Let's dig in...
Sara Lance
They reshot the whole pilot scene between Oliver and Sara only this time, we see what happens to Sara after the boat sinks and she’s swept out to sea. How this woman did not get hypothermia from only wearing a bra and underwear in the North China Sea is beyond me.
This scene just incenses me. It irks the absolute crap out of me when Sara says, “Laurel is gonna kill me.” Sara says it like she’s borrowing Laurel’s sweater without asking. YOU ARE SLEEPING WITH HER BOYFRIEND. This destroys a relationship. She’s not going to kill you, but she will absolutely cut contact with you, Sara.
I know he’s pre-island Ollie and he’s just the absolute worst, but the smarmy “Your sister will never know” as he climbs on top of Sara is just so disgusting. I cannot fathom why people would ever want Laurel to be with Oliver after what he did. Forgive him, fine. Date him? Absolutely not.
Okay, the rage is dying down. Hopefully this is the last time we have to watch this scene.
Sara is staying at the Queen mansion, which doesn’t see very covert, but with Moira in jail and Thea sleeping at Roy’s all the time it actually is a good place for Sara to crash. Better than a clock tower at least.
Oliver is still trying to convince Sara to let her family know that she’s alive, but she’s not convinced all family members *cough*Laurel*cough* will be happy to see her. Sara asks Oliver if he ever got back together with Laurel after he returned home.
Oliver: We tried. It’s too much.
Sara: Some things are better left in the past.
After The Gambit sinks, Sara is floating on a door similar to Rose in Titanic when she’s picked up by the freighter.
Source: saralances
We’re all going to pretend the canary landing right next to Sara is not the most obvious foreshadowing in the world. For anyone questioning if Arrow is making Sara their OG Canary – there’s your answer. You know - if the suit, wicked fight skills and sonic weapon didn’t answer it for you already.
The color of the Canary is important though. It’s yellow. Not black. Arrow is drawing a clear distinction between the two. This is an origin story. It’s not Green Arrow and Black Canary. It’s The Arrow and The Canary.
Sara is thrown in a cage on the freighter, similar to Oliver’s current predicament, but Dr. Ivo protects her from the crew members. He tells Sara he is going to save the human race and invites her to help, so I can only conclude we’re going with Stockholm syndrome in the flashbacks. A twenty something college kid would have very little to offer a mad scientist.
However, Sara’s reticence to return to her family is not related to whatever happened on the island, but rather who she became and what she did to survive AFTER the island. We’re just about to get some details when a man dressed exactly like Malcolm Merlyn comes crashing through a window. Oliver and Sara fight him, but before we can get any answers the man disappears. This is getting annoying. WILL SOMEONE PLEASE EXPLAIN SOMETHING?
Oliver introduces Sara to his team and we get the iconic first meeting between Sara and Felicity.
Source: oliversmoak
Sara does not want Team Arrow to find the assailant however. She knows exactly who he is.
Sara: He’s called Al Ow-al, “The First.” And he’s a member of the League of Assassins.
Oliver has a very strong reaction to this revelation so we can deduce Sara didn’t join the Girl Scouts. The League is, you guessed it, a bunch of assassins who kill and vanish like ghost - previously thought to be an urban legend by Diggle. The League rescued Sara after the island, remade her into an assassin and she swore them her allegiance.
Sara left after she killed a local diplomat in Guyana and his children found his body the next morning. She didn’t want to be a murderer anymore, but now The League is coming after her.
Source: laurelscanary
Felicity’s humor and compassion put Sara at ease after her horrifying confession and this is why I love this character. There’s no judgment from Felicity. She sees Sara for what she is – a person in pain, even if Sara doesn’t see herself that way. Not unlike how Felicity looks at Oliver. And just like Oliver, Sara Lance is SMOAKED.
Source: smoakamell
After Felicity finds Al Ow-al, Sara and Oliver argue about whose fight it is. Sara isn't used to playing with others, but you'd think she'd understand basic strength in numbers. This is the guy who trained Malcolm Merlyn. He stops an arrow with his bare hand while his back was turned!
Al Ow-al: The child of Ra’s Al Ghul awaits your return.
I know who Ra’s Al Ghul is from my Batman days, but in Arrow's world he has a kid. A kid who sent Al Ow-al to collect Sara alive or dead. This is getting complicated. Is there like an employment flow chart we can follow for the League of Assassins?
Oliver: The League of Assassins. Why wouldn’t she tell me what happened to her all those years?
Diggle: Probably the same reason you didn’t tell us what happened to you on the island.
Wow. This is stunning lack of self awareness. Oliver, in case you haven’t noticed, Sara is the girl version of you.
The League has threatened Sara’s family, so Oliver keeps watch over Laurel. Felicity calls Detective Lance to convince him to leave town - while promising Sara to not reveal she's alive.
Source: @noone-seesyou-likeido
Unfortunately, Lance does not listen to Felicity, so Sara decides her secret is not more important than her father’s life. Finally, she is seeing some sense. Diggle, ever the loyal solider, offers to go with as back up, but Sara continues to have this thing about fighting on her own. I guess being an assassin is a solitary job. This does give us one of the best bad ass Sara Lance speeches ever, however.
Sara: Dig, you may be a three tour Special Forces veteran, but I was trained by the people that make the Special Forces look like a kindergarten class. So step aside or get put down.
The reunion between Lance and Sara is all we hoped it could be. It’s not every day your kid comes back from the dead, but Paul Blackthorne does a phenomenal job of moving from shock and disbelief to overwhelming joy.
Source: laurelscanary
Quentin wants answers, but he’s careful not to spook Sara who is still reticent to give details. They go through the nuclear bomb that was set off in their family (the divorce, the alcoholism). Sara apologizes for the damage she caused, but Quentin insists he was to blame, which is more proof he is a really good dad.
He can clearly see his daughter has changed. She speaks Chinese now and is ready to fight to the death with a butter knife. He pieces together Sara is the woman in black; she knows Felicity, The Arrow and is wrapped up in this League that’s after both of them. How this man has not put together Oliver Queen is The Arrow I will never understand.
Quentin: If these assassins, if they hadn't shown up, would you have ever let us know that you were alive?
Sara: No.
Well, at least she’s honest. Sara promises Lance that she never forgot who she was or him despite staying away for so many years.
Source: OILVERSQUEEN
She takes her father to the clock tower which she’s outfitted with booby traps for when the League comes for them both. Sara and Lance hold their own against the assassins, but when The Arrow arrives they achieve the upper hand. Sara has no problem breaking Al Ow-al’s neck, but allows one assassin to live to warn Ra’s Al Ghul.
Sara: Tell Ra’s Al Ghul that my family is off limits. His quarrel is with me.
She is ashamed to show Quentin who she has become – a killer.
Source: sohpiabush
But Quentin feels only pride. How little children understand the depth of a parent’s love. We have already forgiven anything you’ve done or may do the moment you are born.
Quentin: I think you’re a survivor. I think you’re one of the bravest people I’ve ever known. You’re my daughter.
Sara leaves town to lead the League away from her family and Quentin agrees to keep her secret. He will not tell either Laurel or Dinah that Sara is alive because it would get them killed… or something. The logic is not logical, but I don’t really care. They’ll hold the “Laurel finds out Sara is alive” card for May sweeps.
Source: @laurelscanary
This is not the last we will see of Sara Lance. The Canary’s story is just getting started.
Oliver and Diggle
Despite Oliver's spectacularly hypocritical statement about Sara and honesty, there is serious emotional growth this episode. Oliver making this statement about forgiveness a year ago would have been unthinkable. He did not return home with any hope of being forgiven or even welcomed back. I'm going to give the Lance family a shoutout because they had the most to be angry about with Oliver. He asked both Laurel and Quentin for forgiveness and they each have extended olive branches at various time. Hell, Laurel was ready to get back together with him. So, the fact he's able to offer the same hope to Sara is really a full circle moment.
Source: anissagraces
Oliver beginning to believe he is worthy of forgiveness is a direct result of the many hours of therapy with Diggle and Felicity. He is finally starting to really hear them. That's why this moment with Diggle at the end of the episode is truly note worthy.
Source: NUGETAE
Diggle should have this date embroidered on a pillow because it's not often Oliver will admit he was right. But Oliver is not done yet.
Source: COPHINES
He breaks out some Russian vodka and confesses to Diggle he was not always on the island the five years he was gone. Oliver is ready to unburden some of the secrets he works so hard to keep buried.
Source: laurelscanary
Oliver is able to see his own demons reflected in Sara and it finally connects the dots for him. He doesn't have to remain isolated in the world like Sara. Oliver can see Diggle (and Felicity) reaching out to him and he FINALLY reaches back. This is monumental character growth.
Sara: You three are quite the team.
Diggle: We have our moments.
Why Diggle and not Felicity? I think it's easier for Oliver to tell his war stories to another solider. He also doesn't have any fuzzy bunny feelings towards John, which makes things simpler between them. But every time Oliver opens the door to the past, and shares his pain, he is one step closer to the future he truly deserves.
Laurel Lance
Laurel is sitting second chair in Moira Queen’s prosecution, which is actually an INSANE CONFLICT OF INTEREST. Marc Guggenheim, you are a lawyer sir. What is this nonsense?
Never fear! Laurel has used all her pull to get Moira a plea deal - life with the possibility of parole. Understandably the Queen family isn’t thrilled. It’s either life or the death penalty. Laurel even discussing Moira’s case with Oliver is improper ex parte contact. She should be excluded from the case and sanctioned, but this is Arrow and that’s never going to happen.
In the middle of all of this, Oliver continues to ask if Laurel is okay. She is trying to kill your mother, Oliver. I feel how this is impacting Laurel shouldn’t really be your top concern. He is so exhausting around her. Take the hint, my dude. She doesn’t want your help and I’m tired of you two having the same fight episode after episode.
But this episode is not just another round of the same old some old. No, my friends this is a very special episode because it contains one of the best Laurel and Oliver scenes to ever grace our television. Oliver needs to protect Laurel from the League of Assassins, so he takes her out to dinner. Then he walks Laurel back to her apartment (because assassins) but she thinks he’s come up for a very different reason.
And OLIVER REJECTS HER. The way I cackled.
I’m going straight to hell, but I don’t care. This moment is glorious. First of all, Laurel did not have a drink at dinner, so she can’t blame the booze and pills. She just flat out reads the situation wrong. Oliver apologizes for sending a mix signal, but he’s a bit confused. Didn’t they decide they shouldn’t be together out of respect for Tommy? Yes, Oliver. Yes you did. WHAT ABOUT TOMMY, LAUREL?!! This woman did not deserve that man.
Source: ILOVEKCASSIDY
Me:
Oliver promises Laurel he will never leave her and has certainly made every effort to help her, but it is the capacity in which he will stay in her life that is really in question. This moment is HUGE in terms of where Oliver is at emotionally. He is drawing a firm line in the sand. There was a time when Oliver would’ve welcomed Laurel trying to climb him like a tree no matter the circumstance, but not anymore. He clearly states that he cares about Laurel but only as a friend. His concern has no romantic undertone to it.
The balance of power in their relationship has always been tipped toward Laurel. This is the first time it feels like a more even playing field. Instead of Laurel rejecting Oliver – he is rejecting her and for a very good reason. Oliver is not stoned on pills and he remembers they don’t work. They tried to go back and it failed. Oliver has not interest in trying again. For the first time, Oliver is looking forward.
And Laurel, cemented in the past and alone her in apartment, takes some pills.
Stray Thoughts
This secret Moira is keeping is a real humdinger if she’s ok with life with the possibility of parole.
Oliver and Thea promise Moira that she will not lose them no matter the secret. Sure Jan.
"Gee I didn't get you a bag of dirt." Bless this cupcake.
Where did Sara get her suit?
Malcolm Merlyn is also a member of The League of Assassins.
"Oliver’s lucky to have you both as friends. He hasn’t always had the best of luck in that area." Sara’s not so casual remarks about Slade and Shado are friggin ominous. It’s time to get real nervous about the flashbacks.
“You think because you are the beloved that you will be granted your freedom?” We all know who Sara’s beloved is and I’m very much looking forward to her arrival.
"Pain and I came to a little understanding a few years back." Sara takes a licking but keeps on kicking. This is such a bad ass line. The episode is chalk full of them. I love the OG Canary.

Welcome Home Baby Brother Pt. 2 (a Queen!Reader x Malcolm Merlyn verse One Shot....PT. 7)
IMAGINE...being the eldest child to Robert Queen, (Being in a relationship with Malcolm Merlyn,) and having dinner for the first time since your baby brother, Oliver, came back from the dead after five, long years.
Word Count: 2,437
Warning: Possible out-of-character canon characters! Spoilers for any readers who haven’t watched Arrow (I guess lol)
A/N: I hope you all enjoy it!
Previous Parts - 1 2 3 4 5 6
“So, do you plan on telling him about you and Mr. Merlyn?” The question from Thea as the two of you were seated in her room waiting for Oliver to get out of the shower and for dinner to be ready made you flinch and look up from your cell where you had been attempting to do some work for Queen Consolidated while you waited.
You knew that it was going to be brought up, but you had hoped that it would wait until tomorrow.
No. You had no intention of telling Oliver about you and Malcolm. Not only was it something you didn’t know how to bring up, but it was also something that maybe your baby brother didn’t need to know about just yet.
Your gaze fell to your left hand where the diamond ring sat. Malcolm had proposed only a few months earlier during a three-week business trip in France for a joint Queen Consolidated and Merlyn Global business deal. Since then, neither of you had spoken about setting a date or anything to do with a wedding ceremony. A part of you was nervous to bring it up; you didn’t want to make Malcolm feel pressured and didn’t want to somehow, accidentally, bring up memories that would sadden him or anger him by reminding him of Tommy’s mother. The other part of you was nervous to bring it up to Malcolm because…because you weren’t sure you wanted to be married to Malcolm Merlyn. Not right now. Not with Oliver being alive and home and all those suspicions about Malcolm being involved with the Gambit bringing up not anger but dread.
You couldn’t imagine what would happen if that box got opened. You weren’t sure you wanted an answer to whether Malcolm had a hand in your family’s yacht going down.
“Oliver doesn’t need to know about my love life, Thea. There is no reason he needs to be told. Besides, it is probably best that we don’t overwhelm him too much. It’s like…how Mom wants to not bother Oliver with her and Walter just yet. Oliver needs time to settle and adjust. No doubt, he’s hardly at any time to mourn dad or…or even Sara.”
Thea nodded as you spoke and then rolled her eyes saying, “So, you’re scared to tell him?”
“Terrified.”
How could you not be?
Oliver from five years ago had been an asshole, but he still tried to fight every boyfriend you had ever had.
The last thing you needed was Oliver trying to fight Malcolm the moment he got back to Starling City, not to mention the awkwardness that could pop up between Oliver and Tommy as a result.
Sighing, you stood and brushed a hand through your hair while saying, “Look, I promise that I will tell Oliver, but for tonight lets keep that between us.”
“Us and Tommy, mom and Walter, Raisa, most of Starling City, and…” Thea continued as the two of you walked out from her room and headed downstairs.
She wasn’t wrong. Too many people knew and too many people could let it slip to your brother. But if you were being honest, your biggest concern was Moira. She hadn’t budged even a little on her dissatisfaction toward your relationship with Malcolm, and Moira took every opportunity she could find to try and keep the two of you apart. Even with you now living in Malcolm’s home.
It had been amusing at first, then weird, and then frustrating. It was like there was something she was trying to tell you without telling you.
Like Moira knew something about Malcolm she wanted you to know but couldn’t bring herself to spell it out.
“Tommy!” Thea grinned as she bounded down the last few steps and practically skipped over to where Tommy and Oliver stood, reconnecting in the entryway.
You met the gaze of your brother’s best friend (who just happened to be your fiancé’s son as well) and forced an awkward smile as Tommy greeted Thea. The two of you were on good enough terms, but you also knew each other’s secrets – secrets that neither of you wanted Oliver to know about just yet. It made the situation uncomfortable, and you were kicking yourself for not having spoken openly about it with Tommy before this dinner.
“Well, this is a sight that I have missed.” You finally spoke up, plastering a smile on your lips as you closed the gap between yourself and the others. “And to think Starling City was only just beginning to heal from the terror of Oliver Queen and Thomas Merlyn.”
Most of Starling City probably didn’t care that Oliver had returned. Those who were excited were, of course, your family and Oliver’s party friends.
Still, the thought of having Oliver home meant that there was a chance for some semblance of the familiar. As close to the “good old times” that you could get to with your dad being gone.
“We will try not to do anything too crazy.” Oliver smiled. His voice soft. He sounded sincere, like he truly had zero intention of being his old self, and his eyes held a softness that younger Oliver would have never shown – it would have ruined his party boy persona.
“Make sure you don’t.” you laughed as Risa stepped into the hall announcing that dinner was about to be served.
Thea snorted, “Let’s not keep mom waiting.”
Oliver chuckled at your sister’s attitude and wrapped an arm around her shoulders, teasing Thea about “Making mom happy” as they followed after Risa.
You couldn’t help but chuckle knowing that your stepmother or Walter had sent Risa to “collect” the four of you; no doubt, Moira was having flashbacks from your childhood to when you, Oliver, and Thea would get so caught up in something the three of you had chosen to do together that it would take your father coming home and being “stern” for the three of you to finally come back to reality.
The thought was bittersweet, but you didn’t mind it. You appreciated that you could remember things like that. Over the past five years, there had been plenty of days where memories of your brother and father had been the only thing that helped you get out of bed and get on with your life.
“Hey Y/n,” Tommy hissed, grabbing your arm, and stopping you from following after your brother and sister. He waited for the two of them to be out of earshot before saying, “Listen I just…wanted to make sure we were on the same page about…things. Like, what gets told to Oliver and what can be saved for some other time.”
You knew what he was talking about, and it had nothing to do with you and Malcolm.
It was kind of sweet that Tommy was so concerned about telling Oliver certain things because he wasn’t sure how his lifelong friend would react. It spoke volumes on how much Tommy respected and cherished his friendship with your baby brother.
You whispered his name and offered a small smile as your gaze slipped to your left hand and the diamond engagement ring that sat there. The smart thing would be to remove the ring altogether. After all, if Oliver didn’t see the ring, then he couldn’t ask about it, but you didn’t want to give the impression that you were ashamed of Malcolm and that you wanted to hide your relationship with him.
“I promise that I won’t say anything to Oliver about what you’ve been up to the last five years as long as you don’t say anything about me and your father. I just...I haven’t figured out how to tell Oliver about us yet.”
Tommy stared at you for a long moment, taking in what you had said, and then breathed a sigh of relief and nodded. “Alright, alright. Thank you, Y/n. I…thank you.”
“Any time, Tommy.” And you moved into the dining room to join the others.
While Tommy and Thea sat to either side of Oliver, you chose to sit across from Walter placing Moira (and Oliver) at the head of the table. You didn’t mind as it gave you a chance to speak softly to your stepmother and Walter about Queen Consolidated and it gave Thea the chance to soak up as much of Oliver’s attention and closeness as she desired. Thea needed that. She had been only thirteen when the Gambit went down – life was hard enough for Thea with being in her early teens, the loss of your father and brother hadn’t helped things at all.
Besides, you would have plenty of time to catch up with Oliver.
It isn’t like he’s going anywhere any time soon.
“…I was hoping to swing by the office.” Oliver’s voice pulled you out of your thoughts and you quickly snapped your full attention in his direction.
“Queen Consolidated?” you laughed, interrupting whatever Walter had been saying as a response to your brother. “You want to go to…how hard did you hit your head while on that island?” you teased while lifting your glass of wine to your lips.
“I had a lot of time to think while I was away.” Oliver smiled, although it didn’t reach his eyes. “I need something to do with my time, and I was thinking, why not make that something the family business?” his blue eyes looked from you to your mother and then back on you, “Unless this is your way of saying you want the company all to yourself?”
“Shut up, brat.” You laughed with a playful roll of your eyes, “I think it’s a brilliant idea for you to have a hand in Queen Consolidated. Dad would want it.”
“Then it’s settled.” Moira was beaming, clearly happy that Oliver had matured enough to show an interest in your family’s business.
You were proud of Oliver as well, but you couldn’t help but wonder what exactly had motivated your baby brother to want to take an active role in Queen Consolidated. Surely, most people who came back from the dead would want to take some time to rest and readjust to life. But Oliver didn’t seem to want to do that.
Actually, that look on his face…it’s determination. He’s home and he has a list of things he plans to do.
But what?
What has happened to you, Olive?
*
When you were younger, the thing you feared the most was that your baby brother and sister would hate you. That they would grow up and realize how lame you were, and they would then want nothing to do with you.
That morning when you got that call that the Queen’s Gambit had gone down, that your father and brother were lost at sea and presumed dead, you felt so silly for your childhood fears. You knew then that the worst thing imaginable was having those you loved ripped away from you in a moment, in the blink of an eye, without warning.
And now, standing outside with Oliver and avoiding going home to an empty house, you felt that fear in your stomach. Like this was all a dream and that you would wake up, having imagined Oliver being alive, and you would be back in that cold, dark world where your baby brother was gone. Taken from you by fate? A tragic accident at sea? Or…at the hands of unknown enemies.
“So,” Oliver sighed, turning to you with a smile, “When do I get to meet the person who gave you that?” he gestured toward crossed arms, at your engagement ring.
“The wedding?” you shrugged, trying to play it cool at first as you looked anywhere but at him. “It…the engagement is actually pretty new. We don’t have a set date yet.”
“Does mom disapprove?” Oliver asked the question softly, his gaze locked on you so tenderly.
You snorted, “Of course she does. Mom…doesn’t think he’s good enough or me. Which is crazy because he’s a businessman, he’s very successful, and his company actually has a lot of dealings with Queen Consolidated.” Your amusement turned to frustration as you spoke, frowning at your own words and the reminder that Moira could pop off and spill the beans about you and Malcolm at any moment.
“Do I know him?”
Your cheeks flushed at his question, and you found yourself chewing on your bottom lip instead of answering.
Humming, Oliver nodded and leaned toward you, placing a kiss to the side of your head as a sleek, black limo pulled up. “I know that I don’t have to worry about you, Y/n. You’re the smartest out of us all. If you’re sure enough about this guy to marry him, then I will trust you and try to wait patiently for you to introduce me to him.”
“Ollie.” You murmured, eyes filling with tears as you wrapped your arms around him, tucking your face into his shoulder as he returned the hug. “I fucking missed you, Oliver.”
He nodded in agreement, saying “I missed you too, Y/n.”
It took all you had to pull away from him, and it was only after the two of you had agreed to see each other again tomorrow that you finally forced yourself to move away from your baby brother and walk to the limo and Malcolm’s driver.
“Jude.” You nodded, refusing to show your surprise as you stepped past him.
“Miss Queen.” He greeted you with a tilt of his head and a small smile.
Smiling in return, you waved goodbye to Oliver once more before climbing into the limo and letting the door shut behind you.
It was only after you were off your family’s property and Oliver was out of sight that you looked beside you at the man who was supposed to be overseas.
“Darling.” Malcolm hummed, his lips turning upward into that ridiculously charming, crooked smile of his.
“You said…”
Leaning toward you, Malcolm placed a kiss to your lips while murmuring, “You needed me here more.”
Tears prickling in the corner of your eyes, you forced a breathless laugh and pulled away, settling back into the seat. “Thank you, Malcolm.”
“Of course.” He took your hand, placing a kiss to your knuckles, and set it in his lap – seemingly mindlessly playing with the band on your ring finger as he turned to stare out the window, watching the world fly by.
Content and exhausted from the day, you rested your head on his shoulder and let yourself drift off to sleep listening to whatever jazz number Malcolm had chosen for the drive.
*
I hope you all enjoyed it! And I hope you’re all a sucker for sister!reader x Oliver content as I am lol (Oliver being a brother is so lovely to me 😉 )
The next installment will be reader x Malcolm! Probably a gentle day for them! It won’t be out in the next two weeks as I have other one shots (non-Arrowverse) that I want to finish writing/editing/etcetera.
As always, if you want to show some love, feel free to sent me things through my inbox and I also have a Kofi if you would like to support me in that way!
Please be safe and I hope you are having a good day!

@chrumblr-whumblr day 20: came back wrong
wc: 279 | warnings: swearing, nightmares, (not real) blood and death | characters: Thea Queen (pov), Roy Harper - romantic
—
There's blood on the ground and on her hands and on Roy's shirt and oh God oh fuck there's blood in her mouth and she tries to wipe the taste of it off her tongue with her fingers but that only gets more of it in her mouth and she gags she drags her hands onto her pants trying to clean them and the red smears all over the khaki as Malcolm and Moira stare sightlessly up at the sky and oh God oh fuck they're dead they're dead they're dead-
"Thea."
She shot up in bed, hands shaking and drenched in sweat, and instantly felt Roy wrap his arms around her. "Easy. I'm here. I'm safe, babe." His voice was soft in her ear as she gasped for breath, burrowing her hands in his hoodie and pulling him as close as she could.
"No one's after us. The Pits are gone. We're safe. It's okay," he murmured, and it took her a few more moments to believe it. She pressed her face to his shoulder, inhaled his smell, buried herself in the safety of it.
Her breathing slowed, and her hands stopped shaking. But he didn't let go. They never did.
"Bloodlust again?" "…Yeah." She managed the word past dry lips, swallowed nothing down her sandpaper throat. "I'm okay." "You sure?" She nodded. "You?" Thea could tell he knew she was deflecting his concern, but he answered anyway. "Nothing tonight." "Good." The word hung in the air, and he still didn't let go. They never did.
She fell back asleep in his arms, the taste of iron in her mouth fading but the safety of his embrace lingering.

Cherik fics - That ONE line - 78
「I feel like I should keep an index of the one line in each Cherik fics that impresses me to no end, making want to bookmark it immediately.」
irreconcilable differences (make for surprisingly good bedfellows) by pocky_slash
Summary: Tonight on The Evening Report with Malcolm Stevens, noted geneticist and mutant equality proponent Dr. Charles Xavier faces off with the infamous mutant rights activist Magneto in a live televised debate over the Genetic Nondiscrimination Act.
(At least, if they can stop flirting long enough to stay on topic.)
The quote:
Hit that, says the first of Moira's. The second says, But maybe go find a private room first.
