I would love to know Newton's thoughts on Father Malachi Martin. Despite the fact that he was a Jesuit priest, I actually feel like they'd have more in common than not.
I recently finished listening to all the old Art Bell interviews with Father Martin, and it's eerie how almost everything he predicted is playing out right now. His death in 1999 was a tragedy, but on the other hand, being spared from witnessing the collapse of Western civilization seems like an act of mercy to me.
Now I wish I'd had a cool exorcist grandpa like that.

What I'm Reading
Someone asked me the other day what Iâm reading. I get asked this every once in a while. I usually shrug my shoulders and try to remember, mainly because it takes me just as long to read a book as write one, and I often forget. Another problem is that I read multiple books at the same time. Well, not exactly, but Iâm in the habit of starting books that interest me without finishing them before IâŚ

I think it might also be worth mentioning that "the devil" and "the demons" are occasionally used interchangeably, too; the "personalization" of demonic entities becomes more prominent later in the medieval period, whereas before the second millennium a lot of literary demonic figures are vague manifestations of evil that can even alternate between being "the demon" and being a whole mass of evil spirits. Kind of like how in the Hebrew Bible, the Angel of the Lord seems to be occasionally a distinct being but then at other times to actually be the Lord. At least one modern (though incredibly controversial) Catholic priest had a demonology that focused heavily on this aspect of the relationship between the evil spirits and their head; Malachi Martin speaks of a kind of perverse "communion of the damned" (I don't recall if he uses that phrase), where the hosts of hell are united, but in a tyrannically despotic fashion where the evil spirits are reduced to little more than extensions of their prince. If that is true, as snarky as Jeremy Harte wants to be about it, one could legitimately say "the Devil did x" whenever a demon does x. But, you know, that's only one chain of thought.
Theology of Demons Miscellanea
"There was never any question [for the Christian] of attributing all evil to man - indeed, the New Testament has far more to say about dark superhuman powers than the Fall of Adam." C. S. Lewis, "Evil and God" in God in the Dock.
I've liked this quote for a long time, but I've recently wondered "is it true?"
At least on a statistical level, yes.
The fall of Adam is referenced three times in the New Testament - Romans 5:12-21, 1 Corinthians 15:20-28, 1 Timothy 2:12-15. By contrast, dark superhuman powers appear in Romans 8:38, 1 Corinthians 15:25-26, 10:20-22 and maybe 2:6-8*, 2 Corinthians 4:4, Galatians 4:3-9, Ephesians 2:2, 3:10 and 6:12, Colossians 2:8, 2:15 and 2:20, 1 Peter 5:8, 2 Peter 2:4, Jude 6, and, of course, Revelation 12-13 and 20 - all without counting the Gospel exorcism narratives.
Which leads me onto my next point - despite all of this, and a stated desire to get back to the Bible, Protestant theologies in my personal experience tend to marginalise the demonic and angelic realm (excluding certain denominations like Pentecostals). Sure, they affirm their existence, but there's a discomfort with attributing anything specific to them, especially in the present day, or with giving them a prominent place in theology.
And it's not just me saying. Folklorist Jeremy Harte in his book Cloven Country: The Devil and the English Landscape (about, well, the Devil in English and Welsh folklore) says that:
"In practice, if not in doctrine, Protestant writers rejected the numberless demons that had provided their medieval precursors with such varied explanations of bad weather; they were also disinclined to attribute disasters to Satan himself, as this would abrogate from the sovereignty of God." (p.199)
Because I want to hear what some real Protestants have to say on the issue, tagging @theexodvs and @greater-than-the-sword - particularly, I want to know if you think the marginalisation of demons is a real trend in Protestant theology, and if, so, where it comes from.
My personal theory is that Protestantism began in early modern Europe, where the demons had already been driven out by the people who first converted those countries to Christianity - so Protestant theologians see demons as marginal because, in their time and place, they were.
*Saying "maybe" because that interpretation's unpopular among modern Biblical scholars, but it's what I'm inclined to and has Patristic precedent: for example, St. Athanasius identified the wisdom of the Greeks with occultism and the worship of idols (On the Incarnation 46.4)

CATCH ME IF YOU CAN 2002
Two little mice fell in a bucket of cream. The first mouse quickly gave up and drowned. The second mouse, wouldn't quit. He struggled so hard that eventually he churned that cream into butter and crawled out. Gentlemen, as of this moment, I am that second mouse.

My Week so Far
There are a ton of unlikely things I read and watch lately, things that are really out of my lane. First, listening about Malachi Martins, a former Jesuit. I actually knew fuck all about this man prior to that podcast experience and gained no significant amount of information afterward, only that he wrote books about the Jesuits, said that the Church is essentially rotten, and was (some people say âclaimed to be) an exorcist. For information, Iâm not affiliated with those religious institutions and so didnât feel any sort of disappointment or excitement or whatever, it was moderately informative full stop.
Second, I have been reading a thesis on Howard Barkerâs theatre, shockingly, itâs not by David Ian Rabey, the man whose name will always pop up when you search for academic writings on the playwright. I swaggered into reading it as if I know what Howard Barkerâs theatre isâwhich of course I donâtâwell, if you count watching Pity in History once (the televised, uploaded to YouTube version that is) and reading some of his poetry which sounds like a well-written rant, then I know a little. Anyway, the thesis is great. I actually have read another writing on Howard Barker in the past, but that one multi contributor book was⌠have you ever been so knowledgeable and interested in something, and you have so much to say (or too much I should say) that your explanation is the âYou have to be thereâ variety of abstract? That was how the other one felt. This thesis however, gives solid, succinct explanation that I, a layman when it comes to Barker (or British theatre for that matter) can still follow, enjoy, and gain information from it. Itâs fun you know to peer at an artistâs ideological shifts and how they manifest in the art. For example, according to the thesis, Barkerâs first phase was coloured by traditional Marxism and he did political theatre in that vein, then when he still disliked the Right but now also disenchanted by the Left new or old (his second phase), he began to have daggers up every movementâs throat through his plays.
Yeah, so those are two things I gained from my latest internet travels.
PS: I came to read that thesis because Howard Barker is, safe to say, on the fringes. Some have called his theatre whack but others (like any other fringe author) call him a genius. I just wanted to know, guys.

âIt may be relevant that Iâm Catholic, and so supernatural events are not entirely ruled out. One time I was going to write a book which was sort of âThe Exorcist in San Bernardino.â ⌠I got a book by Malachi Martin which was actual transcripts of exorcismsâdialogues between priests and devilsâand I thought, âCool! Wow, boy, Iâve got all my research right here. This is great.â And I opened the book, and on the first page it says, âThe author and publisher advise that anyone reading this book say the following prayer before and after each chapter.â And I slammed it shut and thought, âWell, I donât need that. Uh-uh. I ainât doing that.ââ

I picked up the funny Kuhn book on your rec, and noticed Karl Popper on the same shelf, framing himself in contrast. Do you have/know of any good critiques on Popper in general, or his indeterminism in particular? I'm guessing he didn't convince every Marxist and someone's bound to have responded by now.
yea popper sucks. i mean kuhn himself was responding to / critiquing popper; they very famously had a long ongoing dispute. but like i said before, kuhn is also not where it's at imo. like, not that academic citations are the be-all end-all of intellectual value, but there are reasons you don't typically see either of these guys cited by people working in history / philosophy of science these days lol.
anyway in regards to the marxism angle of this i will say: a major problem with hist/philsci is that these disciplines are pretty ensconced in universities (conservative institutionally & intellectually) and have also taken a long time to even start looking beyond the horizons of great man history, the 'western canon', &c. so the lack of marxists / communists in these fields is like, even more pronounced than in academic history more broadly. like it's insane that people like bob young and roger cooter and adrian desmond are still, like, standouts in this respect lol. so, although there are many many marxists who have responded to popper on those terms, and many many historians and philosophers of science who have responded on that side, the sliver of overlap here is a lot smaller than it should be.
i would definitely read with a critical eye and be on the lookout for places where these texts fail specifically because their authors are not engaging in materialist or properly historicised analysis, or are just blatantly reactionary themselves, in different ways to popper. but, a few places to start with political histsci and philsci critiques of him, or just useful accounts of his legacy and critics:
The Cambridge Companion to Popper (2016). Jeremy Shearmur and Geoffrey Stokes (eds.). <-usual disclaimer that cambridge edited vols. are methodologically, politically, and epistemologically playing it VERY safe. you often want to read them 'backwards', ie, read for what's not being said as much as for what's actually in there. consider this a document that shows what sorts of debates are being permitted, centred, and accepted as 'mainstream' and 'reasonable'.

Okay, multiversal casino staff and a bit of lore before I get too sucked into my hyperfixations and forget about it
[NOTE 1 !! If you want to make a similar concept feel free but do not take my concept entirely! You can make something SIMILAR but not EXACT replica please! I don't mind inspiration but do tag me in any art or rambles because I LOVE to see people be inspired by things or something I make!]
[NOTE 2 !! Some of these characters may act out of canon when I draw them (If I do), some of their Lore might be different, there is an explanation for it here, don't pummel me for it please.]
Origin/Main concept : The multiverse casino was originally made to be a hangout spot for people from other universes, somewhere where they could relax and discover other universes. This worked, but eventually they needed more Staff to help out on all the floors.
Why these specific characters for staff members? (Staff members are shown later) : I picked from my favorite characters from various fandoms (excluding any of my favorite children characters (theres only one here cause theyre celestes friend.)) and threw them here, they're all categorized by the card categorization I have.
Categorizations : There's both the card symbol organization, there will be a section for it at the end of the staff lists.
How does the multiverse casino get its staff? : they find almost exact copies of the universe they're trying to get a staff member from, and they talk to the person they're trying to bring in and see if they'd like to join. Old staff members get their memories of the casino entirely wiped before being returned back to their universes like nothing happened (this essentially happens whenever I leave a fandom)
Owners : Maxie Kanth (Minty) and Stella Novaflare (Sleepy)

Friday, Thirtieth Week in Ordinary Time
(Liturgical Colour: White: A (1))
Readings for the feria (Friday)
There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Friday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise.
First Reading Romans 9:1-5 I would willingly be condemned if it could help my brothers.
What I want to say now is no pretence; I say it in union with Christ â it is the truth â my conscience in union with the Holy Spirit assures me of it too. What I want to say is this: my sorrow is so great, my mental anguish so endless, I would willingly be condemned and be cut off from Christ if it could help my brothers of Israel, my own flesh and blood. They were adopted as sons, they were given the glory and the covenants; the Law and the ritual were drawn up for them, and the promises were made to them. They are descended from the patriarchs and from their flesh and blood came Christ who is above all, God for ever blessed! Amen.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 147:12-15,19-20
R/ O praise the Lord, Jerusalem!
O praise the Lord, Jerusalem! Zion, praise your God! He has strengthened the bars of your gates he has blessed the children within you.
R/ O praise the Lord, Jerusalem!
He established peace on your borders, he feeds you with finest wheat. He sends out his word to the earth and swiftly runs his command.
R/ O praise the Lord, Jerusalem!
He makes his word known to Jacob, to Israel his laws and decrees. He has not dealt thus with other nations; he has not taught them his decrees.
R/ O praise the Lord, Jerusalem!
Gospel Acclamation cf. 1 Thessalonians 2:13
Alleluia, alleluia! Accept Godâs message for what it really is: Godâs message, and not some human thinking. Alleluia!
Or: John 10:27
Alleluia, alleluia! The sheep that belong to me listen to my voice, says the Lord, I know them and they follow me. Alleluia!
Gospel Luke 14:1-6 'Is it against the law to cure a man on the sabbath?'
Now on a sabbath day Jesus had gone for a meal to the house of one of the leading Pharisees; and they watched him closely. There in front of him was a man with dropsy, and Jesus addressed the lawyers and Pharisees. âIs it against the lawâ he asked âto cure a man on the sabbath, or not?â But they remained silent, so he took the man and cured him and sent him away. Then he said to them, âWhich of you here, if his son falls into a well, or his ox, will not pull him out on a sabbath day without hesitation?â And to this they could find no answer.
The Gospel of the Lord
R/ Praise to you, Lord Jesus Christ.

(Readings for the memorial)
(There is a choice today between the readings for the ferial day (Friday) and those for the memorial. The ferial readings are recommended unless pastoral reasons suggest otherwise)
First Reading Philippians 4:4-9 If there is anything you need, pray for it.
I want you to be happy, always happy in the Lord; I repeat, what I want is your happiness. Let your tolerance be evident to everyone: the Lord is very near.
There is no need to worry; but if there is anything you need, pray for it, asking God for it with prayer and thanksgiving, and that peace of God, which is so much greater than we can understand, will guard your hearts and your thoughts, in Christ Jesus. Finally, brothers, fill your minds with everything that is true, everything that is noble, everything that is good and pure, everything that we love and honour, and everything that can be thought virtuous or worthy of praise. Keep doing all the things that you learnt from me and have been taught by me and have heard or seen that I do. Then the God of peace will be with you.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 130(131)
R/ Keep my soul in peace before you, O Lord.
O Lord, my heart is not proud nor haughty my eyes. I have not gone after things too great nor marvels beyond me.
R/ Keep my soul in peace before you, O Lord.
Truly I have set my soul in silence and peace. A weaned child on its motherâs breast, even so is my soul.
R/ Keep my soul in peace before you, O Lord.
O Israel, hope in the Lord both now and forever.
R/ Keep my soul in peace before you, O Lord.
Gospel Acclamation John 13:34
Alleluia, alleluia! I give you a new commandment: love one another just as I have loved you, says the Lord. Alleluia!
Gospel Matthew 22:34-40 The commandments of love.
When the Pharisees heard that Jesus had silenced the Sadducees they got together and, to disconcert him, one of them put a question, âMaster, which is the greatest commandment of the Law?â Jesus said, âYou must love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and the first commandment. The second resembles it: You must love your neighbour as yourself. On these two commandments hang the whole Law, and the Prophets also.â

First Reading Song of Songs 8:6-7 The flash of love is a flame of the Lord himself.
Set me like a seal on your heart, like a seal on your arm. For love is strong as Death, jealousy as relentless as Sheol. The flash of it is a flash of fire, a flame of the Lord himself. Love no floods can quench, no torrents drown.
Were a man to offer all the wealth of his house to buy love, contempt is all he would purchase.
The Word of the Lord
R/ Thanks be to God.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 44(45):11-12,14-17
R/ Listen, O daughter, give ear to my words. or R/ The bridegroom is here! Go out and meet Christ the Lord.
Listen, O daughter, give ear to my words: forget your own people and your fatherâs house. So will the king desire your beauty: He is your lord, pay homage to him.
R/ Listen, O daughter, give ear to my words. or R/ The bridegroom is here! Go out and meet Christ the Lord.
The daughter of the king is clothed with splendour, her robes embroidered with pearls set in gold. She is led to the king with her maiden companions.
R/ Listen, O daughter, give ear to my words. or R/ The bridegroom is here! Go out and meet Christ the Lord.
They are escorted amid gladness and joy; they pass within the palace of the king. Sons shall be yours in place of your fathers: you will make them princes over all the earth.
R/ Listen, O daughter, give ear to my words. or R/ The bridegroom is here! Go out and meet Christ the Lord.
Gospel Acclamation John 14:23
Alleluia, alleluia! If anyone loves me he will keep my word, and my Father will love him, and we shall come to him. Alleluia!
Or:
Alleluia, alleluia! This is the wise virgin whom the Lord found watching; she went in to the wedding feast with him when he came. Alleluia!
Or:
Alleluia, alleluia! Come, bride of Christ, and receive the crown which the Lord has prepared for you for ever. Alleluia!
Gospel Matthew 25:1-13 The wise and foolish virgins.
Jesus told this parable to his disciples: âThe kingdom of heaven will be like this: Ten bridesmaids took their lamps and went to meet the bridegroom. Five of them were foolish and five were sensible: the foolish ones did take their lamps, but they brought no oil, whereas the sensible ones took flasks of oil as well as their lamps. The bridegroom was late, and they all grew drowsy and fell asleep. But at midnight there was a cry, âThe bridegroom is here! Go out and meet him. At this, all those bridesmaids woke up and trimmed their lamps, and the foolish ones said to the sensible ones, âGive us some of your oil: our lamps are going out.â But they replied, âThere may not be enough for us and for you; you had better go to those who sell it and buy some for yourselves.â They had gone off to buy it when the bridegroom arrived. Those who were ready went in with him to the wedding hall and the door was closed. The other bridesmaids arrived later. âLord, Lord,â they said âopen the door for us.â But he replied, âI tell you solemnly, I do not know you.â So stay awake, because you do not know either the day or the hour.â

Either:
First Reading Exodus 32:7-14 Moses pleads with the Lord his God to spare Israel.
The Lord spoke to Moses, âGo down now, because your people whom you brought out of Egypt have apostatised. They have been quick to leave the way I marked out for them; they have made themselves a calf of molten metal and have worshipped it and offered it sacrifice. âHere is your God, Israel,â they have cried âwho brought you up from the land of Egypt!ââ the Lord said to Moses, âI can see how headstrong these people are! Leave me, now, my wrath shall blaze out against them and devour them; of you, however, I will make a great nation.â
But Moses pleaded with the Lord his God. âLord,â he said âwhy should your wrath blaze out against this people of yours whom you brought out of the land of Egypt with arm outstretched and mighty hand? Why let the Egyptians say, âAh, it was in treachery that he brought them out, to do them to death in the mountains and wipe them off the face of the earthâ? Leave your burning wrath; relent and do not bring this disaster on your people. Remember Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, your servants to whom by your own self you swore and made this promise: I will make your offspring as many as the stars of heaven, and all this land which I promised I will give to your descendants, and it shall be their heritage for ever.â So the Lord relented and did not bring on his people the disaster he had threatened.

First reading Deuteronomy 10:8-9 The Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to do him service
Moses said to the people: âThe Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the Lordâs covenant, to stand in the presence of the Lord, to do him service and in his name to pronounce blessing as they still do today. Levi therefore has no share or inheritance with his brothers: the Lord is his inheritance, as the Lord your God told him.â
OR: --------
First reading 1 Samuel 16:1,6-13 David is anointed by Samuel
The Lord said to Samuel, âFill your horn with oil and go. I am sending you to Jesse of Bethlehem, for I have chosen myself a king among his sons.â Samuel purified Jesse and his sons and invited them to the sacrifice. When they arrived, he caught sight of Eliab and thought, âSurely the Lordâs anointed one stands there before himâ, but the Lord said to Samuel, âTake no notice of his appearance or his height for I have rejected him; God does not see as man sees; man looks at appearances but the Lord looks at the heart.â Jesse then called Abinadab and presented him to Samuel, who said, âThe Lord has not chosen this one either.â Jesse then presented Shammah, but Samuel said, âThe Lord has not chosen this one either.â Jesse presented his seven sons to Samuel, but Samuel said to Jesse, âThe Lord has not chosen these.â He then asked Jesse, âAre these all the sons you have?â He answered, âThere is still one left, the youngest; he is out looking after the sheep.â Then Samuel said to Jesse, âSend for him; we will not sit down to eat until he comes.â Jesse had him sent for, a boy of fresh complexion, with fine eyes and pleasant bearing. The Lord said, âCome, anoint him, for this is the one.â At this, Samuel took the horn of oil and anointed him where he stood with his brothers; and the spirit of the Lord seized on David and stayed with him from that day on.
OR: --------
First reading Isaiah 6:1-2,3-8 'Here I am: send me'
In the year of King Uzziahâs death I saw the Lord of Hosts seated on a high throne; his train filled the sanctuary; above him stood seraphs, each one with six wings. And they cried out to one another in this way,
âHoly, holy, holy is the Lord of Hosts. His glory fills the whole earth.â
The foundations of the threshold shook with the voice of the one who cried out, and the Temple was filled with smoke. I said:
âWhat a wretched state I am in! I am lost, for I am a man of unclean lips and I live among a people of unclean lips, and my eyes have looked at the King, the Lord of Hosts.â
Then one of the seraphs flew to me, holding in his hand a live coal which he had taken from the altar with a pair of tongs. With this he touched my mouth and said:
âSee now, this has touched your lips, your sin is taken away, your iniquity is purged.â
Then I heard the voice of the Lord saying:
âWhom shall I send? Who will be our messenger?â
I answered, âHere I am, send me.â

First reading Isaiah 52:7-10 Rejoice, for the Lord is consoling his people
How beautiful on the mountains, are the feet of one who brings good news, who heralds peace, brings happiness, proclaims salvation, and tells Zion, âYour God is king!â
Listen! Your watchmen raise their voices, they shout for joy together, for they see the Lord face to face, as he returns to Zion.
Break into shouts of joy together, you ruins of Jerusalem; for the Lord is consoling his people, redeeming Jerusalem.
The Lord bares his holy arm in the sight of all the nations, and all the ends of the earth shall see the salvation of our God.
OR: --------
First reading Isaiah 61:1-3 He has sent me to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord
The spirit of the Lord has been given to me, for the Lord has anointed me. He has sent me to bring good news to the poor, to bind up hearts that are broken;
to proclaim liberty to captives, freedom to those in prison; to proclaim a year of favour from the Lord, a day of vengeance for our God,
to comfort all those who mourn and to give them for ashes a garland; for mourning robe the oil of gladness, for despondency, praise.
OR: --------
First reading Jeremiah 1:4-9 Go and say whatever I command you and do not fear
The word of the Lord was addressed to me, saying,
âBefore I formed you in the womb I knew you; before you came to birth I consecrated you; I have appointed you as prophet to the nations.â
I said, âAh, Lord; look, I do not know how to speak: I am a child!â
But the Lord replied, âDo not say, âI am a child.â Go now to those to whom I send you and, say whatever I command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you to protect you â it is the Lord who speaks!â
Then the Lord put out his hand and touched my mouth and said to me:
âThere! I am putting my words into your mouth.â
OR: --------
First reading Ezekiel 3:17-21 Warn the wicked man, and you will live
The word of the Lord was addressed to me as follows, âSon of man, I have appointed you as sentry to the House of Israel. Whenever you hear a word from me, warn them in my Name. If I say to a wicked man, âYou are to die,â and you do not warn him; if you do not speak and warn him to renounce his evil ways and so live, then he shall die for his sin, but I will hold you responsible for his death. If, however, you do warn a wicked man and he does not renounce his wickedness and his evil ways, then he shall die for his sin, but you yourself will have saved your life. When the upright man renounces his integrity to do evil and I set a trap for him, he too shall die; since you failed to warn him, he shall die for his sin and the integrity he practised will no longer be remembered; but I will hold you responsible for his death. If, however, you warn the upright man not to sin and he abstains from sinning, he shall live, thanks to your warning, and you too will have saved your life.â
OR: --------
First reading Ezekiel 34:11-16 I will look after my flock myself and keep all of it in view
The Lord God says this: I am going to look after my flock myself and keep all of it in view. As a shepherd keeps all his flock in view when he stands up in the middle of his scattered sheep, so shall I keep my sheep in view. I shall rescue them from wherever they have been scattered during the mist and darkness. I shall bring them out of the countries where they are; I shall gather them together from foreign countries and bring them back to their own land. I shall pasture them on the mountains of Israel, in the ravines and in every inhabited place in the land. I shall feed them in good pasturage; the high mountains of Israel will be their grazing ground. There they will rest in good grazing ground; they will browse in rich pastures on the mountains of Israel. I myself will pasture my sheep, I myself will show them where to rest â it is the Lord who speaks. I shall look for the lost one, bring back the stray, bandage the wounded and make the weak strong. I shall watch over the fat and healthy. I shall be a true shepherd to them.
Responsorial Psalm Psalm 88(89):2-5,21-22,25,27
I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord; through all ages my mouth will proclaim your truth. Of this I am sure, that your love lasts for ever, that your truth is firmly established as the heavens.
I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
âI have made a covenant with my chosen one; I have sworn to David my servant: I will establish your dynasty for ever and set up your throne through all ages.
I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
âI have found David my servant and with my holy oil anointed him. My hand shall always be with him and my arm shall make him strong.
I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
âMy truth and my love shall be with him; by my name his might shall be exalted. He will say to me: âYou are my father, my God, the rock who saves me.ââ
I will sing for ever of your love, O Lord.
Gospel Acclamation Mt23:9,10

Or: Mt28:19,20
Alleluia, alleluia! Go, make disciples of all the nations. I am with you always; yes, to the end of time. Alleluia!
Or: Mk1:17
Alleluia, alleluia! Follow me, says the Lord, and I will make you into fishers of men. Alleluia!

Gospel Matthew 9:35-37 The harvest is rich but the labourers are few
Jesus made a tour through all the towns and villages, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the Good News of the kingdom and curing all kinds of diseases and sickness. And when he saw the crowds he felt sorry for them because they were harassed and dejected, like sheep without a shepherd. Then he said to his disciples, âThe harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest.â
OR: --------
Gospel Matthew 16:13-19 You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church
When Jesus came to the region of Caesarea Philippi he put this question to his disciples, âWho do people say the Son of Man is?â And they said, âSome say he is John the Baptist, some Elijah, and others Jeremiah or one of the prophets.â âBut you,â he said âwho do you say I am?â Then Simon Peter spoke up, âYou are the Christ,â he said âthe Son of the living God.â Jesus replied, âSimon son of Jonah, you are a happy man! Because it was not flesh and blood that revealed this to you but my Father in heaven. So I now say to you: You are Peter and on this rock I will build my Church. And the gates of the underworld can never hold out against it. I will give you the keys of the kingdom of heaven: whatever you bind on earth shall be considered bound in heaven; whatever you loose on earth shall be considered loosed in heaven.â
OR: --------
Gospel Matthew 23:8-12 The greatest among you must be your servant
Jesus said to his disciples, âYou must not allow yourselves to be called Rabbi, since you have only one master, and you are all brothers. You must call no one on earth your father, since you have only one Father, and he is in heaven. Nor must you allow yourselves to be called teachers, for you have only one Teacher, the Christ. The greatest among you must be your servant. Anyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and anyone who humbles himself will exalted.â
OR: --------
Gospel Matthew 28:16-20 Go and make disciples of all nations
The eleven disciples set out for Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had arranged to meet them. When they saw him they fell down before him, though some hesitated. Jesus came up and spoke to them. He said, âAll authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, make disciples of all the nations; baptise them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teach them to observe all the commands I gave you. And know that I am with you always; yes, to the end of time.â
OR: --------
Gospel Mark 1:14-20 I will make you into fishers of men
After John had been arrested, Jesus went into Galilee. There he proclaimed the Good News from God. âThe time has comeâ he said âand the kingdom of God is close at hand. Repent, and believe the Good News.â As he was walking along by the Sea of Galilee he saw Simon and his brother Andrew casting a net in the lake â for they were fishermen. And Jesus said to them, âFollow me and I will make you into fishers of men.â And at once they left their nets and followed him. Going on a little further, he saw James son of Zebedee and his brother John; they too were in their boat, mending their nets. He called them at once and, leaving their father Zebedee in the boat with the men he employed, they went after him.
OR: --------
Gospel Mark 16:15-20 Go out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News
Jesus showed himself to the Eleven and said to them: âGo out to the whole world; proclaim the Good News to all creation. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; he who does not believe will be condemned. These are the signs that will be associated with believers: in my name they will cast out devils; they will have the gift of tongues; they will pick up snakes in their hands, and be unharmed should they drink deadly poison; they will lay their hands on the sick, who will recover.â And so the Lord Jesus, after he had spoken to them, was taken up into heaven: there at the right hand of God he took his place, while they, going out, preached everywhere, the Lord working with them and confirming the word by the signs that accompanied it.
OR: --------
Gospel Luke 5:1-11 They left everything and followed him
Jesus was standing one day by the Lake of Gennesaret, with the crowd pressing round him listening to the word of God, when he caught sight of two boats close to the bank. The fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. He got into one of the boats â it was Simonâs â and asked him to put out a little from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. When he had finished speaking he said to Simon, âPut out into deep water and pay out your nets for a catch.â âMaster,â Simon replied, âwe worked hard all night long and caught nothing, but if you say so, I will pay out the nets.â And when they had done this they netted such a huge number of fish that their nets began to tear, so they signalled to their companions in the other boat to come and help them; when these came, they filled the two boats to sinking point. When Simon Peter saw this he fell at the knees of Jesus saying, âLeave me, Lord; I am a sinful man.â For he and all his companions were completely overcome by the catch they had made; so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were Simonâs partners. But Jesus said to Simon, âDo not be afraid; from now on it is men you will catch.â Then, bringing their boats back to land, they left everything and followed him.
OR: --------
Gospel Luke 10:1-9 Your peace will rest on that man
The Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them out ahead of him, in pairs, to all the towns and places he himself was to visit. He said to them, âThe harvest is rich but the labourers are few, so ask the Lord of the harvest to send labourers to his harvest. Start off now, but remember, I am sending you out like lambs among wolves. Carry no purse, no haversack, no sandals. Salute no one on the road. Whatever house you go into, let your first words be, âPeace to this house!â And if a man of peace lives there, your peace will go and rest on him; if not, it will come back to you. Stay in the same house, taking what food and drink they have to offer, for the labourer deserves his wages; do not move from house to house. Whenever you go into a town where they make you welcome, eat what is set before you. Cure those in it who are sick, and say, âThe kingdom of God is very near to you.ââ
OR: --------
Gospel Luke 22:24-30 I confer a kingdom on you, just as the Father conferred one on me
A dispute arose between the disciples about which should be reckoned the greatest, but Jesus said to them: âAmong pagans it is the kings who lord it over them, and those who have authority over them are given the title Benefactor. This must not happen with you. No; the greatest among you must behave as if he were the youngest, the leader as if he were the one who serves. For who is the greater: the one at table or the one who serves? The one at table, surely? Yet here am I among you as one who serves! âYou are the men who have stood by me faithfully in my trials; and now I confer a kingdom on you, just as my Father conferred one on me: you will eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and you will sit on thrones to judge the twelve tribes of Israel.â
OR: --------
Gospel John 10:11-16 The good shepherd is one who lays down his life for his sheep
Jesus said:
âI am the good shepherd: the good shepherd is one who lays down his life for his sheep. The hired man, since he is not the shepherd and the sheep do not belong to him, abandons the sheep and runs away as soon as he sees a wolf coming, and then the wolf attacks and scatters the sheep; this is because he is only a hired man and has no concern for the sheep.
âI am the good shepherd; I know my own and my own know me, just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and I lay down my life for my sheep. And there are other sheep I have that are not of this fold, and these I have to lead as well. They too will listen to my voice, and there will be only one flock, and one shepherd.â
OR: --------
Gospel John 15:9-17 You are my friends if you do what I command you
Jesus said to his disciples:
âAs the Father has loved me, so I have loved you. Remain in my love. If you keep my commandments you will remain in my love, just as I have kept my Fatherâs commandments and remain in his love. I have told you this so that my own joy may be in you and your joy be complete. This is my commandment: love one another, as I have loved you. A man can have no greater love than to lay down his life for his friends. You are my friends, if you do what I command you. I shall not call you servants any more, because a servant does not know his masterâs business; I call you friends, because I have made known to you everything I have learnt from my Father. You did not choose me: no, I chose you; and I commissioned you to go out and to bear fruit, fruit that will last; and then the Father will give you anything you ask him in my name. What I command you is to love one another.â
Or:
Gospel John 21:15-17 Feed my lambs, feed my sheep.
Jesus showed himself to his disciples, and after they had eaten he said to Simon Peter, âSimon son of John, do you love me more than these others do?â He answered, âYes Lord, you know I love you.â Jesus said to him, âFeed my lambs.â A second time he said to him, âSimon son of John, do you love me?â He replied, âYes, Lord, you know I love you.â Jesus said to him, âLook after my sheep.â Then he said to him a third time, âSimon son of John, do you love me?â Peter was upset that he asked him the third time, âDo you love me?â and said, âLord, you know everything; you know I love you.â Jesus said to him, âFeed my sheep.â

Hi I have a couple genuine catholic questions that if you don't mind could you answer?
What bible do catholics use?
How do you know that the bible you use is the right one?
And why is the Latin mass in Latin?
Hi! No worries, I love questions. đ I am no scholar but Iâll try my best to answer.
What Bible do Catholics use?
The Bible Catholics use is called the canon. The Catholic canon contains a total of 73 books and letters vs the Protestant Bible which only has 66.
The canon Old Testament: Genesis, Exodus, Leviticus, Numbers, Deuteronomy, Joshua, Judges, Ruth, 1 Samuel, 2 Samuel, 1 Kings, 2 Kings, 1 Chronicles, 2 Chronicles, Ezra, Nehemiah, Tobit, Judith, Esther, 1 Maccabees, 2 Maccabees, Job, Psalms, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, Song of Songs, Wisdom, Sirach, Isaiah, Jeremiah, Lamentations, Baruch, Ezekiel, Daniel, Hosea, Joel, Amos, Obadiah, Jonah, Micah, Nahum, Habakkuk, Zephaniah, Haggai, Zechariah, and Malachi.
If thatâs a lot to process here is a photo to organize that:
The canon New Testament: Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Acts, Romans, 1 Corinthians, 2 Corinthians, Galatians, Ephesians, Philippians, Colossians, 1 Thessalonians, 2 Thessalonians, 1 Timothy, 2 Timothy, Titus, Philemon, Hebrews, James, 1 Peter, 2 Peter, 1 John, 2 John, 3 John, Jude, Revelation.
How do you know that the Bible you use is the right one?
As Catholics, we know any Bible which contains any of the canon books is good to use but also be mindful of translations! For example, I personally stay away from ones that are harder to understand like King James and that one that Joyce Meyer sometimes uses called the Amplified Bible where it adds words that werenât there before.
How did the canon come about? âIn about 367 AD, St. Athanasius came up with a list of 73 books for the Bible that he believed to be divinely inspired. This list was finally approved by Pope Damasus I in 382 AD, and was formally approved by the Church Council of Rome in that same year. Later Councils at Hippo (393 AD) and Carthage (397 AD) ratified this list of 73 books. In 405 AD, Pope Innocent I wrote a letter to the Bishop of Toulouse reaffirming this canon of 73 books. In 419 AD, the Council of Carthage reaffirmed this list, to which Pope Boniface agreed. The Council of Trent, in 1546, reaffirmed St. Athanasiusâs original list of 73 books.â In the 16th century, around the year 1517, Martin Luther established the Protestant reformation. Disliking some of the books found in the canon when creating his new concept of theology and Sola scriptura (meaning by scripture alone), Martin Luther took out Sirach, Wisdom, Tobit, 1 Maccabees, Judith, additions to Daniel, and Esther.
Sooo why do we have the canon as Catholics? Our Catechism of the Catholic Church says:
â105 God is the author of Sacred Scripture. âThe divinely revealed realities, which are contained and presented in the text of Sacred Scripture, have been written down under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit.â âFor Holy Mother Church, relying on the faith of apostolic age, accepts as sacred and canonical the books of the Old and the New Testaments, whole and entire, with all their parts, on the grounds that, written under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, they have God as their author and have been handed on as such to the Church herself.â - #105, page 36. Catechism of the Catholic Church, Second Edition.
Catholicism is the original church established by Jesus Christ on the day of Pentecost. I love the canon and tradition.
Why is the Latin Mass in Latin?
The Latin Mass is in the language of Latin for a few reason. Once widely spoken long ago, it is now a dead language. To this day it is still the official language of the Church. Using Latin preserves the Latin Riteâs words from being changed in error that we can find in changes to vernacular languages especially English. Here is ďżźa neat article if you want to read more about it.
