I feel like there is something to be said about how Magneto is wearing his whole mission get-up basically the whole time. Even when the others are wearing casual dress. Because when the others are at home, they're at ease, they're relaxing, they're dressed for that. But Magneto being in his mission get-up at all time actually shows how he is literally always apprehensive, always in survival mode. And he's the one who tells Scott in ep.2 to be vigilant at all times and not to trust good things. He's the one who tells Jubilee that she should be training instead of celebrating her birthday because otherwise, she might not have many more birthdays to celebrate in the future.
And then we see him in normal dress at the party on Genosha. And of course, that's when disaster hits. In the following episodes, casual clothing or lack of clothing is used to show vulnerability and defencelessness.
I just think it's one of the ways that illustrate Magneto as a character who is always expecting an attack and always expecting the worst vs. the weight of him finally allowing himself to have a bit of faith and to let down his guard a little, just for one evening. just for a moment because things seem safe. Except he's immediately punished for it. So honestly, I really can't be mad at him anymore.

x-men '97 spoilers
ep 1(To Me, My X-Men)
wow. i just finished x-men animated series. last eps were different than the other seasons. im glad they made this Show story wasnt ober yet. this new start is so good. artstyle is amazing. The visual effects were so cool. everything is great. it was fun. cyclops is struggling. There's a lot of pressure on him. and he is leaving x-men with Jean. Jean is pregnant. Charles really left everything to magnus?! and why is bishop still there i get that timeline is not right but they are not doing a certain thing to fix it. and im glad morph is back. and rogue and gambit i love them. logan and morph's friendship is nice.
ep 2(Mutant Liberation Begins)
Why did they suddenly start calling Magnus Erik? Okay, Erik is also his name i know, but they used to call him Magnus. Erik is an honorable man. I want to believe and trust him. I hope he doesn't have any evil plans. We'll see what happened between rogue and magneto. storm lost her Powers while trying to save magneto. magneto tried. he really did. humans suck(most of the times-in most of the universes). they dont deserve them. dr. rogue and baby is here. scott is being nice to magneto. its good for now. but not for long probably. ororo left. gambit's heart is broken. and 2 jean's?! I cried in the last two minutes of the episode more than I ever cried in the first 5 seasons. It was more painful. it happened in a much more perfect way. it was beautiful. I guess this is what happens when an animated series is made for adults. i really love it.
ep 3(Fire Made Flesh)
Why is Roberto in the mansion? Is he there to hang out with jubilee or is he staying there now? Since when is jean a clone? goblit queen is so powerfull. baby is gone. Madelyne is one but i think we'll see her again someday. hi, forge. i hope this is really forge and he can help storm.
ep 4(Motendo/Lifedeath - Part 1)
I want to see more gambit and rogue. and I want to see nightcrawler. not mojo again🏻♀. jubilee's powers are cool. storm:(. i hope she can get her Powers back. i love forge. he did something bad but he wants to redeem himself. i hope he can.
ep 5(Remember It)
this Show makes me so happy. kurt is here. genosha is beautiful. mutants live in peace. madelyn is here. and i got gambit rogue and kurt:). I can't feel nostalgic. I just finished the x-men animeted series yesterday but this is so perfect. its just perfection. i love them so much. this Show pays tribute to what the other has done and takes it even further. I can only ask for more episodes, there is nothing else I can ask for(except maybe more gambit and rogue). scott is right. If the x-men were like humans, I think they would start thinking like the old Magneto. The x-men did not think about themselves, they always prioritized others. but in the end they were always hated. I don't understand how they can still do this. How do they hold on, how do they compromise themselves for those who still hate them? Mutants(not the bad ones) deserve great things, but all they get from the world they're trying to save is hatred. and scott is losing his fate in charles vision. he lost his son. his wife was a clone. There's a lot going on for Scott right now. but I hope he can get over this as soon as possible. jean kissed logan! she is confused to she has to remember so that she can be with scott again. and then maybe jean and scott could help eachother get better. i like seeing scott's eyes. scott is right i am not sure jean loves scott anymore. she remembers she loved him but i dont think she feel that way anymore. scott loves madelyn because she was jean and part of her is still jean. idk everything is complicated. it is painful to watch. i just want them all of them to be happy. but there's so much going on right now. I wanted gambit and rogue to be together. They were so beautiful together. But Magneto may be right, I can't be angry with him. But I just wish Rogue and Gambit could be more than friends. too many people are heartbroken rogue, gambit, jean, scott, (me). Did I just see Watcher? after gambit and rogue's talk. i think i did. i wish things were simple. cable is nathan. Why was he there and why did he leave? erik is gone. gambit is dead. they saved rogue. so many mutant died. leech trusted magneto. magneto gave hope to mutants and everything was great, i had hope things were getting better. mutants on genosha were happy. magneto he tried. he tried to save them. he tried to be like Charles. but World just wont let them be this good. he really tried. Would I be too delusional if I hoped that Remy and Erik would return? I need them both back. i cant feel you, this tells everything(reminds me of wanda). I knew it the moment I saw rogue touching gambit. I wish things could have happened differently. i knew I haven't cried this much while reading or watching a story in a long time. This episode really broke me. I'm not in a good mood. The world doesn't deserve X-Men. they never deserved the x-men and will never deserve them. Whatever the x-men do now, they will almost always be right.
ep 6(Lifedeath - Part 2)
lilandra and Charles are good together im happy for them. but i wouldnt mind if they come to earth and save x-men. storm and forge they are cute. but it probably wont last long, i wish it could last. i hope Charles can learn about what erik did. professor xavier, that was smart. yes, storm got her Powers back. Charles is Charles. i love him. his ideals are amazing but they are just ideas. to make them real they suffer they try and they fail over and over again. im glad hes returning to earth but it is too late. and things in spece wont be good when he left. and sinister! sinister killed all those mutants adn remy and erik. i hope he will have a painfull and an awful ending to his story.
ep 7(Bright Eyes)
not a funeral, please he has to come back. hi cap. normally i would say it is nice to see you but right now you're just reminding me how ridiculous mutant hatred is. Yes, there are people who hate superheroes too, but mutant hatred is on another level. And this is ridiculous. rogue is right to be mad. Humans expect mutants to compromise themselves in order to live with them, and they require this. Because humans are afraid of mutants, mutants have to hide their powers and not use them so that people do not feel threatened. Why do mutants follow their rules? because they are good. The "bad ones" don't suppress their power just because people want them to. But when it comes to humans, mutants who live their own nature as they wish are evil. i love kurt and rogues relationship. it feels good to see the X-Men being together and helping each other through all this bad stuff. oppenheimer… now i am become death the destroyers of worlds. trask destroyed all those mutants lifes. i cant say he didnt deserved death but rogue, she let him die. this is not who x-men is, at least WHO they were. she is angry she is grieving she is not in her right mind right now. if she was herself she wouldnt have let him die. i saw the sign for Strak Industries. I wish we could see Tony. In which universe, in which timeline are we right now? Is Tony dead here too? magneto is alive. bastion? i dont know anything about him i guess ill see. scott learned about cable.
ep 8(Tolerance Is Extinction - Part 1)
is madelyne dead? i thought she just get hurt not dead. kurt with swords, I've been waiting for this. Everything is in a very bad state right now, but this visuality and the fights are beautiful. Jean being a mother to cable(seatbelt:) ). wolverine's fight in the skys. yes! summers family. it was so cool. hi peter. but really magneto was right. Charles was just being naive. humans are the wortst. i wish humans and mutants could live together in peace but humans wont let them. mutants deserve better. Charles is back. It wasn't Magneto who started the war. humans wanted this war from the beginning. Mutants and X-Men have been patient, but now it's too much, how much longer should they be patient? It would be really nice if there was peace, but as long as people have this hatred, it seems impossible to make peace. Bastion ignited the war, but whether he started or not, the war would still happen one day. I hope the mutants can win. magneto can win. I think Charles is late. Before the war, they could have tried to implement Charles' ideals, but it was too late. The war has begun and mutants need a leader in the war and that leader must be Magneto.
ep 9(Tolerance Is Extinction - Part 2)
Why is everyone mad at Magneto? I understand humans being angry, it's usual hatred, but why are the x-men so angry? Okay, the order of the world has been disrupted, life has become difficult, the end of the world may even be near, but Magneto saved the mutants. If he had not done this, the mutants would probably have died. I've never been one for villains, I've rarely agreed with them. and this is one of those rare moments. magneto is right. I don't think he is the villain in this story bastion and humans are the bad guys. im glad rogue went with him. charles' ideals are nice to think but its impossible right now. we need magneto. black lether, I completely forgot this scene was coming. x-men are noble they are still trying to do the right thing(according to them). I'm still amazed at how they can endure so much and still try to do good. morph smash:) I wish mutants didn't fight each other. but really i wanted to say shut up to Charles when magneto did. things are bad, really bad. When I started watching '97', I thought I would watch something fun and light. I never thought it would be this dark. Logan should have at least thought once before attacking Magneto with his metal skeleton. He probably won't die, but I think this is an indication that Magneto didn't want to hurt them before. If he wanted to, he would have done this years ago, but he prioritized mutants and didn't want to harm mutants. Now he had to harm the X-Men to save many other mutants. scott confused me, yes the others needed time but why did this happen? Is Jean dead? forge and storm will surive too right?
ep 10(Tolerance Is Extinction - Part 3)
ironman! I wasn't surprised when I saw Ironman with Captain America, but Daredevil caught me off guard. Daredevil is one of my favorite Marvel characters. Is Doctor Strange in surgery?! wakanda! cloak and dagger! this cameos are amazing i hope we can see things like that in live action. I hope mister sinister is gone for good. t'chaka is black panther. Charles destroyed magnus. i hope he can bring him back. bastion is right, humanity would rather die than have kids like mutants. and that why i dont like them. mr. fantastic(morph but still its nice to see him)! humans say we did it. But all they do is bring about the end of the world over and over again. x-men saved the world, magneto saved, mutants saved the world. humans only made it a worse place. wanda and quicksilver off World? where are they? bishop. yes save the x-men. i need season 2 immediatly. x-men scattered through time. They found Nathan. en sabah nur(Apocalypse!!!). At least the series didn't end in a bad place. They defeated Bastion and Sinister. They fell apart, but they're not in a bad situation right now. When is gambit coming back? he has to come back.
this Show is amazing. Characters from MCU and X-Men are in the same universe together. It was very beautiful. I hope we can see more. I can watch so many seasons this way.

The X-Men and the member they lost - Chapter 5
Summary: Life in Westview was perfect, but a certain visitor would soon change all that.
Previous parts: Chapter 1, Chapter 2, Chapter 3, Chapter 4, Chapter 5, Chapter 6, Chapter 7, Chapter 8,
Chapter 5: The circus
Life in Westview was very pleasant. Charles had only recently joined the Spectacular World of Rapturous Diversions and it quickly became his home. He had been accepted into the circus as the psychic. He had an extravagant room full of cushions for visitors to sit on and a table adorned with a crystal ball. The orb truly wasn’t necessary, it was all for show; he usually sensed whatever he had to no matter the accessory in front of him. He had come alone and wasn’t sure of the reception he would get. He didn’t remember much of who he was before he came to Westview. He had flashes once in a while of a grand mansion, a school perhaps? His lack of backstory didn’t bother him much. When one’s job was to see into people’s future and all sort, it was expected to not remember all of one’s past. Some people were bothered by his ability to read them like an open book, but he thankfully had made some friends.
There was a young man who insisted on people calling him Nightcrawler. He was wonderfully skilled in the art of disappearing. He had seen his act many times and never could figure out how he achieved it. The teen had been born with a peculiar skin condition; he had been shunned by everyone he had met until he had joined the circus. Charles had taken him under his wing, making sure he felt welcomed and supported.
Then there was Mystique. They had grown close very quickly. They had felt like they had known each other for a long time, their camaraderie was similar to one of siblings. He had stumbled upon her act by a lucky coincidence. He had been entranced by her many quick changes and how she could switch between outfits, accessories, and hair in mere seconds and flawlessly every time. He had knocked on her dressing room after her performance and they had talked for hours. They had been close friends since.
Then, there was Erik. He had been looking around the circus through the recently added acts and had found this ‘Magneto’ sign very intriguing. It led to a small stage where the man had various metal objects thrown at him. Some seemed very sharp, but they all fell a little before they reached him. His apparent control over the metal had earned him the nickname ‘man of steel’. Halfway through the performance, they had locked eyes. Strangely enough, it felt familiar? His act had ended quickly after that and the man walked up to Charles, asking him if they knew each other. As unexpected as the question was, he too felt a connection. Like they had gone through a thousand hardships together and had lived through high and lows for what seemed an entire lifetime. They had conversed the night away, talking about the circus and why they had come to Westview of all places. While Charles himself was simply looking for a place with people similar to him, Erik had a different answer. He had been looking for someone but hadn’t been able to remember who. He was certain that it was someone very close to him, someone he had known for awhile, but hadn’t known about his connection with them until recently. The psychic had tried to see whoever it could be, but all he could catch was a silver blur too quick to follow.
They were now playing a game of chess, a sort of bonding time between the two. The crystal ball was moved from its usual spot to make place for the board.
“So,” started Erik, breaking the silence after so long, “how did you end up in a wheelchair? You’re free to ignore the question if it’s a sensitive subject, of course.”
He frowned at the man’s question, how had he ended up in this situation? He closed his eyes in concentration, trying to activate his memory. He didn’t see much, there was an intense feeling of rage that wasn’t his own and he had blindly run towards it. Then, pain had suddenly coursed through his spine. The next thing he saw was that he had fallen and couldn’t feel anything in his legs. “I- I had a bad fall on a beach... I think.”
The man nodded and moved a piece. “I’m sorry.”
Charles tilted his head in confusion, “why do you say that? It’s not your fault, you weren’t there.”
‘Was he? No, he couldn’t have, they just met.’
Erik shrugged his shoulder, lost in thoughts, “I’m not sure... I just feel like I need to apologize.” He shook his head and concentrated back to the game. The psychic could practically see his mind turning and trying to figure out his next move. One of his hand hovered over the bishop piece in hesitation. Suddenly the piece was knocked over without being touched. The men shared a slightly panicked, but more confused look.
“Did that just happen?” Asked Erik.
Charles took the piece in his hand and examined it, it didn’t look like it was rigged or anything. How could it have moved? He handed the piece back to the man, “try that again.”
Erik took the bishop with caution and gently put it on the table. He was about to bring his hand forward when commotion outside was heard. There was a sound of a door closing and a truck driving away as someone screamed to whoever was leaving.
“You get back here! I need you!”
The brown-haired man got up and looked out the tent for a few seconds before looking back at Charles. “We’ve got runaways, I guess I’ll have to cover their act.” He quickly said goodbye with a nod and exited the tent.
Charles was now left alone with his thoughts and confusion. He took the chess piece in his hand and examined it once more. It didn’t make any sense; it shouldn’t have moved by itself. He shook his head with a sigh, it was probably nothing. A little metal game piece couldn’t move by itself, the very notion of this was ridiculous. He wheeled himself over to where the crystal ball had been moved for their game. He gently put it back on the table. He closed his eyes and took deep breaths to ground himself.
The sound of the curtain of his tent being opened pulled him out of his thoughts. A woman walked in, she seemed to be in her thirties, she had green eyes and red hair. He greeted her and let her look around the room. There was a nagging feeling in his brain, telling him to get away from her, but he couldn’t understand why. She was simply visiting the circus on her day off, how much of a danger could she be? They exchanged pleasantries before he told her to take a seat. He concentrated on the woman like he would any other client.
Though, on the contrary to most people for whom he’d see various events and feelings, he could only feel overwhelming grief and pain. He hummed as he tried to make heads and tails of what he was seeing. There was a bomb going off, crushing a building and children hiding under a bed, frightened out of their minds. There was soldiers and dirty cells and blinding pain as unseen power unlocked itself. Then, he saw the woman growing more vengeful as time went on. There were killer robots and a blonde man, he instinctively knew he was her brother. The woman was fighting against the robots now. Suddenly pain ripped through her chest and she realized her brother was dead. A stray thought from the man echoed through her mind, his last thought.
‘I love you, Wanda’
Then everything was silent, and the woman felt awfully empty and alone. Charles sighed as her past was unveiled before him. “I see pain, a lot of pain,” he sighed. “Oh, I’m sorry Wanda, so much loss.” He felt the woman stiffen at his words, but he was already gone in another vision.
There was a team of heroes training her, she tried to work through her pain, but it kept gnawing her. Then there was a mistake, a misdirection. Lagos. Everything went wrong, an unfair law was written. Named after her country, staining it forever. Smearing it in blood and regrets. The team that trained her went against each other, the android she liked was on the opposite side. She didn’t want to hurt him. Her side lost, and now she had to run away. She changed her life, changed her hair; the man visited her. They grew close, they wanted to get away, together. But a threat made them put their plans aside. They met with warriors; the robot needed to have a stone taken out so he could survive. They didn’t have enough time. A purple giant was going to get them. She had to kill her love to save the universe. She didn’t want to, but she had to.
‘It shouldn’t be you, but it is’.
The deed was done. She had done it, she pushed down her growing grief as she told the monster about his defeat. But it wasn’t enough, time was wound back, and the android was there once again. The stone was ripped from his head and he fell limply to the ground. ”I see a great battle, one that was unfortunately lost.” She was still holding on to his corpse when it happened. Charles felt her turn to dust, everything was cold, but she wasn’t afraid. At least, she wouldn’t have to suffer anymore. She’d join her family and lover. “But then everything was made right,” he frowned, “but not for you. You were still alone.” She came back, expecting to be greeted with a corpse again but nothing was around her. “I see... a breaking point, and great suffering.” No one came to her; everyone was rejoicing. All of her grief came crashing back, she had truly lost everyone.
She had to find his body, he had to have a funeral, they deserved it. She had every right, but they still refused her. She went to him; he was being ripped apart for profit. She let her magic explore his head, where the stone had been. She couldn’t feel him, he was gone. She was still alone. She drove to a town, the promise of a future still in the air. But nothing was there, her entire life had been ripped apart without her even having a say in the matter. It wasn’t fair. Life kept taking everything, why couldn’t she be happy? Her magic ripped through her and engulfed the town. Her husband was back, she was home. Everything was alright. Charles couldn’t help but feel for the woman. “Oh Wanda... what have you done?”
He couldn’t understand what he was seeing, he had never heard of any of the events he had witnessed. A sudden pulse of red flashed through his mind and Charles gasped. He remembered everything. Peter’s disappearance, the broadcast, travelling between dimensions, the base, the barrier expanding; he could recall everything. But that didn’t make sense, Wanda’s spell wouldn’t allow it. Wanda was in charge, she was-
She was right in front of him.
Panic surged through him, she was unpredictable, what would she do to him? ‘No, this is like any other mutant that comes at the school. Make her understand that she can trust you.’
He calmed himself down as he extended a hand towards her. “Wanda Maximoff! What an honor to meet you!” She backed off, but he stood his ground. While she seemed in control of everyone, it was a very real possibility that she didn’t realize that they were hurting. Moreover, it was probable that her pain and grief blinded her to the truth. Perhaps she truly thought Peter was her real brother, back from the dead. He had to make sure she could see the situation for what it was. “We have a slight misunderstanding here, your brother, Pietro as you call him, he’s not your brother, not really.” The telepath paused as he tried to take in her reaction, but Wanda was unreadable. He understood her reaction, in a way. Hearing about the multiverse had to be unsettling. Plus, realizing that she let a stranger into her house must be unnerving. Hopefully, she hadn’t hurt him. Perhaps she would even give him back now that she knew the truth. “You see, a team composed of myself and a couple of others, including his father, are here to bring him back.” The woman was still as stoic as ever. She showed no sign of comprehension, perhaps she needed some sort of explanation or proof? Charles obliged. “We crossed universes to get here, it took weeks to find the right calculations. Thanks to your broadcast, we had a good grounding point. The military base kept us updated about Peter. We were brought in as you expanded the Hex, even our member with teleportation powers couldn’t escape. I’m certain it wasn’t your intention to trap us, or Peter, but you have to let us go. We’re not from your universe, we don’t belong here, we- “
“No,” Wanda’s voiced echoed. That caught him off guard. He had met many mutants in his life, but they were generally stable enough to understand right from wrong. “This is my home, I have my husband, my children and my brother. I will not let you take them away.” The professor didn’t like the way she emphasized Peter. His instinct told him that she had already known that he wasn’t truly her Pietro. But that possibility made way for a terrifying truth; she simply didn’t care that he wasn’t the real one and was determined to keep him at her side. However, he wouldn’t allow that, they had traveled all this way, they would not leave empty handed.
“Ms. Maximoff, you have to come to reason, you cannot keep up this lie forever.” Charles enunciated, taking on his authority voice. “What you’re doing is wrong, putting an entire town under mind control-“
“Is better than putting the entire Earth under it,” interrupted Wanda.
So, she truly was aware of her doing. And she didn’t care about the consequences, that was very bad. He focused on her mind, perhaps there was something he could find there that would be able to make her realize how wrong she was. He started making out the outline of what seemed to be a necklace. But, before he could look any further, he was casted out from her mind and the red energy was back. Charles felt slightly nauseous as the woman suddenly stormed out of his tent.
The psychic couldn’t understand why. Had he given her a bad show? He had done as was expected of him, perhaps she was scared? Yeah, that must’ve been it. She wasn’t able to accept that he could be the real deal and had been angry about it. He chuckled a little as he wiped a small spot on the crystal ball. Some people simply couldn’t open their mind that some individuals might be gifted with powers beyond their understanding. The man suddenly gasped as a vision overtook him. He felt freezing water around him, there also seemed to be a person next to him. He didn’t know who he was, but he knew he had to save him. The man was screaming, but not out of fear because of the situation, it was rage because someone was getting away. He wouldn’t hear reason if he spoke, he had to use telepathy. ‘Telepathy?’
“You'll drown. You have to let go. I know what this means to you, but you're going to die. Please, Erik, calm your mind.”
Wait, did he say Erik? But it couldn’t be the same Erik, they’d just met. The vision continued. The man was trying to struggle out of his hold, screaming at him to get away and let him get his revenge.
“Calm down. Just breathe. We're here!” He heard himself plead. The vision faded away, leaving Charles more confused than he’d ever been in his life. What was this memory? Was it even a memory? A voice in his head kept repeating that it was nothing, just extreme daydreaming. But that didn’t make any sense, it felt so real. The psychic exited the tent, he had to find Erik, and Nightcr- Kurt and Raven. Why would he need to find a raven? He rolled around aimlessly trying to make sense of the situation. All the horrible things he had witnessed, they couldn’t be true, it was simply too horrible.
After awhile of pointless wandering, he noticed a purple mist falling upon the circus, filling every crack, and finding its way to the people. He watched the tendrils approach him with suspicion as it coiled around him.
Charles awoke, suddenly and without warning. But Wanda hadn’t done this, it felt different. Still, he had to find the others, Peter could be in danger. Everyone was waking up; he could feel all their pain and confusion as the mind control was lifted. Some tried to run towards the barrier, but he turned the other way. That’s where he had last seen his friends. He spotted Raven first, she had probably been mid performance, judging by her colorful outfit. She walked towards him as he called to her. He wouldn’t use telepathy for now, Wanda’s powers were probably too similar and would cause a slight panic. Kurt suddenly manifested in front of them. His clothes hadn’t changed much from his usual outfit. They now had to find Erik. They looked through the crowd of people, but there was no sign of the metal bender. Finally, his eyes locked onto the familiar figure. The man walked forward and stopped next to the group.
“Well,” he said, “that was, without doubts, one of the worst experiences of my life.”
Raven and Kurt agreed, both of them saying how they were stuck reliving painful memories while not being able to control their bodies. Charles watched them with a pensive hand to his face. How could he even tell them what he had experienced? He let them talk a little, they had to get this off their chest. As far as he knew, Kurt had never been through any types of mind control. It had to be hard for him. He watched them with steadily increasing anxiety, Wanda’s words running through his head.
“We have a problem,” he finally said. He let the others get closer as he took a breath. “I spoke to Wanda; she came to see me. She’s fully aware of what she’s doing and very keen on keeping her perfect life.” He turned to Erik with sorrowful eyes. “She... she’s aware that Peter isn’t her brother, but it doesn’t matter to her. She’s determined to keep him at her side.”
He could sense Erik’s rage building up. The man clenched his jaw as he balled his hands in a fist. “Then, let’s make sure she doesn’t get a chance to keep him.”

Essential Avengers: Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars #1-3
May, 1984
THE WAR BEGINS
Oof, here we go.
Just gotta replicate the pace that let me do the Hawkeye miniseries in one go, three times in a row.
This is probably too much effort considering its Secret Wars (or more accurately Marvel Super Heroes Secret Wars) and maybe there’s not going to be a lot of big changes from this in the Avengers book to really justify it.
But we’re getting Jim Shooter writing the Avengers and his non-consecutive runs were a lot better than I had remembered. And it continues the theme he had from the Avengers book.
It just makes sense in a nonsense way to cover this story.
Last relevant time in Avengers! Acting Completely Normal Vision warned the Avengers about some weird, possibly hostile energy surges right in time for an energy surge to surge energetically in Central Park.
When the Avengers went to investigate, they found a weird structure that looked like a techy coliseum maybe. When some of the Avengers wandered into it (apparently the most bankable Avengers? Sucks to be Vision and Wanda, shrug) they vanished.
In the next issue, after several days, these heroes returned, speaking of a secret war they fought. Weird stuff like She-Hulk taking the Thing’s place on the Fantastic Four happened. In other books, Spidey got a cool new suit.
Would you know more?
After being raptured in their various books, the missing superheroes all end up on one of those distinctive structures like the one that appeared in Central Park, except IN SPACE.
Its cool that the Avengers will have some company.
We’ve got a terrific 3/4ths of the Fantastic Four, the X-Men (including Lockheed but not including Kitty Pryde for some reason), the Avengers, Iron Man, Spider-Man, the totally Articulate Hulk, and hilariously Magneto is also here.
Maybe Secret Wars is just setting up the most awkward moment in the universe, as a prank show.
I think I’d enjoy a big event that turned out to be a prank show at the last minute. The fan discontent. Imagine.
Everyone introduces themselves to each other but mostly the audience and Ben Grimm claims his new codename as the Easter Bunny.
Checking, marvel wiki doesn’t have Easter Bunny listed as one of Ben’s known aliases. Cowards.
Looking up into space, Captain America spots another one of the totally cool constructs and Professor X scans that it contains EEEEEEEVIL.
Specifically Amora the Enchantress, Ultron, the Wrecking Crew, the Absorbing Man, the Lizard, VICTOR VON DOOOOOM, Kang the Conqueror, Doctor Octopus, and Molecule Man. Also, hilariously, Galactus is there.
I’m more convinced than ever that this is a prank show.
You know what would be more hilarious? If Punisher ended up on this construct.
The distribution of villains is kind of odd though. Galactus and Doctor Doom map to the FF. Doctor Octopus and the Lizard to Spider-Man. Ultron, Molecule Man, and Kang are Avengers foes. The Absorbing Man and the Wrecking Crew can go a couple ways but started off as Thor villains. And Amora is usually a Thor villain but supposedly has chilled out around this time or at least is less of a pain than her horny sister.
No X-Men villains. Because Magneto is chilling with them in the generally heroic pod.
Also, all the heroes were raptured from Earth while the villains were grabbed from Earth, from space, from Asgard, resurrected just to be here, or from the FUTURE.
I know marketing is wagging the dog but be consistent, secret organizer who we don’t know yet.
The Thing points out that Magnet is off-sides, re: being in the hero construct, and Magneto is like ‘hey, chill out dudes’ and denies specifically doing murders.
Magneto: “I know not what power transported me here from my secret lair, nor why I was placed among you -- but I find it more appropriate to ask why such as you were judged fit to be placed in my presence!”
Oof.
Burn.
Then the conversation is put on halt on account of the wildest shit any of them have ever seen.
An entire galaxy vanishes but probably not due to a wave of anti-matter.
Thor: “It’s gone! Gone -- ! Swept away like dust before some unseen, giant hand!”
And then around that last star left unswept, various chunks merge together to form some sort of world, perhaps for battle.
A nice touch for later is that you can definitely see that one of the chunks is a stray chunk of city.
Some of the villains start squabbling because close quarters, ego, etc.
But Ultron goes hey we’re allowed to fight? I’m the best at that.
Ultron: “I am Ultron! I do not understand the events transpiring! I do not understand how I came to be resurrected... nor how I came to be here! Nothing computes... Insignificant! I am Ultron! My purpose is to slay that which lives. You are all living things, ergo -- Ultron must destroy you!”
With the benefit of having read all the Avengers up to now, I feel that Ultron got up on the wrong side of the resurrection a little.
He’s not not like this but he’s not usually this turned on?
(Then again, maybe he just came back cranky)
DOOM grabs and shakes Molecule Man to do something about this because given enough time even the mighty DOOM might fall before Ultron.
Ultron is famously annoying to defeat, what with that adamantium.
But Molecule Man is in therapy after the Avengers kicked his shit and Tigra yelled at him for being a punk. He doesn’t want to hurt anyone.
So Doom with all his brilliant genius tells MM a cool way to help out that won’t hurt anyone. Directly.
Using his Molecule Man power over molecules to lightly toss Ultron into Galactus.
So that Galactus goes ‘who the fuck scuffed my boots’ and rips out all the energy in Ultron’s Ultron.
He can do that.
Why wouldn’t he? If he can do that to a planet, he can do it to a pissbaby robot. Even one apparently containing more power than an atom bomb.
Then, because this is one of those plots where things are always thenning, a rift opens in the nothingness of space and a heavenly esque light shines out. A warbly voice commands the action figures beat each other up.
I mean. Its more like
The Beyonder: “I am from beyond! Slay your enemies and all you desire shall be yours! Nothing you dream of is impossible for me to accomplish!”
But you have to admire that this toy commercial of a comic book is being honest and upfront about being a story where action figures bonk off of each other.
Galactus just hears ‘i can finally shake off these persistent forever munchies’ and flies off to demand prepayment for action figure bonking, with DOOM following behind him.
The Beyonder speaks up warning Galactus that hey, personal space. And that a guy that can effortlessly wipe out a galaxy is gonna have a sweet barrier but Galactus wants the hunger pangs gone and does not listen.
DOOM recognizes a bad idea when he sees one once in a while and hangs back but still gets blown out of space by the force of Galactus bonking off the Beyonder’s barriers.
Captain America: “They were swatted back like flies!”
Professor X: “To the Beyonder, even Galactus is less than a fly, Captain!”
Interruption dealt with, the Beyonder gets the show on the road and sends the two constructs to different parts of the patchwork planet.
The Marvel Super Heroes And Magneto land on some hill and quickly make sure that there are no villains excepting Magneto around.
With Magneto around, the non-X-Men raise an objection to Magneto being around.
He sank a Russian submarine with all hands back in X-Men #150 but he insists that it was self-defense and also they started it.
The X-Men’s position is ‘hey he’s a jerk but he’s our jerk plus we could use his help? The bad guys get GALACTUS, how is that fair?’
Well, they don’t say it but they’re probably thinking it.
And Hawkeye decides to be a little racist today.
Hawkeye: “You mutants stick together, huh? Well, sticking to a blood-soaked maniac like him doesn’t speak well of you, pal!”
Dude, Clint. Your dear old friend is Wanda.
Wait, why ISN’T Wanda here? Did the toy people really not want her? Fools. Her husband is toyetic as all get out.
Also, point of order, Wolverine? If anyone qualifies as ‘hey he’s a jerk but he’s our jerk!’ here its you.
Johnny “good life choices” Storm decides he’ll just kick Magneto’s ass and end the debate but yeah. Yeah, no. Magneto makes a fool of him.
And then Magneto decides eff this noise and flies off.
With Magneto alienated (good job, guys), Professor X decides this group needs some dang leadership and throws a nomination to Reed Richards. Reed defers since he’s thinking of Sue, left at home and not able to participate in the event.
Wasp, the cool leader of the Avengers, nominates instead Captain America.
Wasp: “We’re off in a strange land, up to our ears in a little secret war that may decide the fate of the universe! Some people don’t know me well! They might have doubts... and there’s no room for that!”
I’m baffled that there’s people here who don’t know Wasp who has been heroing since the 60s but sure. Cap(tain America) probably gets more crossovers and whatever.
I mean, heck, we’re talking a group of heroes consisting of the Avengers (who she already leads), the Fantastic Three (who she’s well acquainted with), and the X-Men (who I’m sure she’s met, although awkwardly its going to later be revealed that Wasp is in the Hellfire Club, but only the sex parts).
And I guess Wolverine’s extensive backstory with Cap doesn’t exist yet because Wolverine isn’t keen on him being the leader, describing him as the least of the assembled heroes. When Hawkeye is right there!
I kid because I love.
Meanwhile, DOOM wakes up adjacent to Galactus ankle and heads to a nearby fortress which he correctly assumes is where the villains have ended up.
Wait, the heroes get beamed down to a random hill while the villains get sent to an advanced fortress with weaponry and we later learn vehicles sold separately?
Kinda stacking the deck, the Beyonder.
You gave the villains GALACTUS and A FORTRESS PLAYSET right out of the gate.
The other villains tell Doom that they’ve (mostly) decided that he should be their leader. But Doom has bigger fish to fry than the prizes that the Beyonder is offering.
In typical Doomesque fashion, he wants the whole kettle. But the other villains what with their petty concerns think he’s too afraid to fight.
So he ditches.
He goes to steal-borrow a spaceship and even though he hates the thought, takes off to go talk to Richards. And then Kang shoots him out of the sky with a GIANT GUN THAT THE VILLAIN FORTRESS ALSO HAS? to stop him from allying with the heroes.
Said (marvel super) heroes see the distant explosion and fly as a group in the most hilarious way possible to check it out.
God, I have always loved this image. Its squished down into the bottom third of the page but its a delight.
They find Doom sprawled in the crash site, rambling that he’ll only speak to RICHARRRRRDS and about the Beyonder’s power. But Cap offends Doom mightily but offering him a hand up and because Doom sees pity in Cap and RICHARRRRRRDS eyes.
So he blasts the heroes and fucks off.
How very Bakugou of him.
And right as the heroes recover from that, a bunch of villains arrive to get this secret war started.
I have a fondness for this particular issue. For a long while, issue 1 was the only issue of Secret Wars I could find. So I just had the start of this story with all these non-Spider-Man non-X-Men heroes I barely knew cliffhangering into an attack by villains I really didn’t recognize except for Doc Ock and the Lizard.
It was a window into another side of the Marvel Universe. And for child me, this first issue worked perfectly to intrigue me. All these characters, the very straightforward conflict, all the complications that immediately pop up like Magneto, Galactus, and Doom. Alas, small child resources.
June, 1984
PRISONERS of War!
The heroes react slowly to the sudden villain attack but thankfully, the villains aren’t working together well. Unthankfully, half of the heroes were already knocked out by the first attack.
Meanwhile, over at Doctor Doom’s side of the plot, he flies back over to where Galactus just in time to see him finally rouse from being slapped down by the Beyonder.
Galactus floats to his feet and wanders off.
Doom: “He ignored me! As though I were a gnat buzzing at his feet! And so I am... Just as all of us, even Galactus himself, are but insects to the all-powerful Beyonder! Thus, the others have chosen to play the Beyonder’s simple game -- thereby, in effect, paying homage to him. Should I, too, pay homage? Should I worship at the feet of this god-like being -- or chose another path... one only Doom would dare!”
I think anyone that knows Doom knows which option he’s gonna choose.
He heads back to the villain fortress and finds Ultron’s deactivated body and decides Doom can use this.
Meanwhile, back at the first secret battle of the secret war, the heroes rally and start fighting back under Cap(tain America)’s leadership.
She-Hulk even gets a designated girl fight with the only female villain on the villain team.
I’d complain, I would. But at least She-Hulk isn’t the only heroine on the hero side.
She-Hulk: “Hiya! I’m the She-Hulk! You must be the Enchantress! Gee, I’ve heard so much about you -- ! You’re a not-nice lady!”
Enchantress: “A green woman? Is there no end to the varieties of mortals?”
The Enchantress magic slaps She-Hulk away and comments that she could crush She-Hulk physically but its beneath her.
Yeah, all Asgardians have some level of super strength, that’s right. Even the squishy wizards.
But all She-Hulk heard was, ‘someone I can really punch!’
She-Hulk: “I don’t often duke it out with someone solid enough to really unload on -- and slow enough to let me! Oh, wow! That was, like tubular, you know -- to the max!”
Uh. Jen, are you okay? Did you have a stroke? You don’t usually talk so much in Mario World secret world levels.
I think maybe Jim Shooter didn’t have a good grasp on her. I don’t think he’s ever written for her. And the other heroes mostly don’t vary too much from generic hero speaking patterns. Add some smart for smart characters, add some rude to Wolverine, and so on.
The battle wraps up with Kang, the Enchantress, and the Wrecking Crew captured and the rest of the villains fleeing when the battle didn’t go their way.
Cap sends Storm off to scout for a cool playset that they can use as shelter and she does so, noting that the winds on Battleworld are super easy to control. Like Battleworld was created to create ideal fighting conditions for everyone. Pretty neat, the Beyonder.
Storm finds a particularly rad fortress (”Bigger than fifty-four and a half Pentagons, I’d estimate!” Wow!) and the heroes move in.
I unironically enjoy how toyetic this story is with the fortresses and the vehicles and the weapons. Because I’m almost positive that Mattel barely capitalized on it.
There were only two playsets. Pitiful.
Over in their new headquarters, Reed stashes the captured villains in some form of psychostasis which “works by controlling aggression through brainwave modulation!”
He also sticks Enchantress in a healing pod to address that nasty case of being She-Hulked right in the face. Nothing will salve her ego though.
Captain America: “It’s no wonder that the name Mister Fantastic is renowned for compassion as well as courage! You give added meaning to the word hero, Richards!”
Whenever someone loudly announces that Reed is super compassionate, it makes me feel like they’re overcompensating.
Nobody ever makes note of, say, Captain America’s compassion.
With the prisoners (of war? Is that the whole reason for the title?) accommodated, Cap calls everyone for a meeting in a cool meeting dome he found which has a small waterfall for aesthetic and so everyone has to yell to be heard.
Wolverine yells that they should mop up the rest of the villains and get this over with.
Not mentioning that in order to “win it” they’d have to kill the villains, which none of the heroes have shown any interest in doing so far.
Cap(tain America) replies that A) planet big and they have no idea where the villains got to. And B) the remaining villains slash antagonists are Galactus, Doctor Doom, Molecule Man, Doctor Octopus, the Wrecker, the Absorbing Man, and Magneto. Not really people you mop up.
In a fun logistics bit, Cap sends out a patrol to make sure the area is secure but he also sends out two additional groups to find if there are any places in this fortress they can sleep and whether there's any... food.
Makes me imagine a Secret Survival War where the sides have to wrestle over limited resources.
Hours later, the villains that escaped the fracas arrive back at their fortress.
I’m sort of confused here.
Maybe it took so long because they had to make sure they weren’t followed. Or maybe because they didn’t have the sweet tripod vehicle anymore. But think about the flow of events of: everyone beamed down to Battleworld > Doom ditches the villains and gets shot down > heroes investigate and Doom ditches > villains show up for cliffhanger fight.
The villain fortress should be pretty close to where that fight took place. And then the heroes find a nearby fortress of their own so their fortress should be pretty close to the villain fortress. Maybe not in the same neighborhood but surely the same zip code.
Anyway, they find that while they were gone, Doom swanned in and renamed the place the Doombase.
If they have problems with it, they can talk to his Ultron.
Which I’m surprised he didn’t rename Doomtron.
Doom also tells them that he’s in charge now.
Absorbing Man: “Aw! Who gives a hoot! I need a meal an’ sleep! You wanna be in charge, Doom? Okay by me!”
If you think about it, this is just some steps added what the villains wanted all along.
They wanted Doom to be their leader but he told them he had bigger fish to fry and fucked off. Now he’s fucked back on and told them all that he’s their leader. They initially object before reconsidering due to Doomtron but, yeah, its all gone full circle.
Doom is a lot more cordial to Molecule Man though.
Doom: “Molecule Man... uh, Mr. Reece, I believe it is? I trust you were not inconvenienced.”
Molecule Man: “Well, being absolute master of molecules I can just assimilate molecules when I want, so I never have to be hungry, and I can just shoo away dirt molecules, so I’m always nice and clean -- but I am tired!”
Doom: “I have prepared a special chamber for you! I hope you like it!”
Molecule Man: “If not, I can always reconstruct the molecules -- !”
Heh.
Nice to see Jim Shooter able to follow up on the trajectory he sent Molecule Man on.
The rest of the villains head off but Doctor Octopus, the only other brain cell in this group, hangs back to talk to DOOM.
He wants to know what he plans to do about Galactus and then shows Doom on the biggest screen TV that Galactus is standing on a mountain glowing with an awesome power.
Doom just retorts that his plans are for his forces to triumph.
Doctor Octopus: Something tells me he’s got ambitions that dwarf merely triumphing in the Beyonder’s little contest! The question is whether he will destroy us in trying to achieve them -- or immediately after fulfilling them?!
Like I said, the only other brain cell in this group.
Meanwhile, while Magneto secretly sneaks into the hero fortress for Reasons, the heroes have a quiet moment that lets this Secret Wars biz really sink in.
Wasp: “I’d be having tea in my studio now, Jenny... And lunch on my patio tomorrow... This... um... situation we’re in... is kind of... much, you know? I feel there’s just a little thin wall inside me holding back a flood of despair!”
Its a nice touch, if intentional, that Wasp only admits this kind of thing now that she’s passed off the leadership responsibilities to Captain America. Its been a recurring character beat that she’s been keeping these sorts of worries to herself as chairwoman.
Over in another part of the fortress, Cyclops complains that he was right in the middle of his dang honeymoon when he was yanked into this event.
Cyclops: “I don’t know about you, Richards, but more than angry or afraid, I feel cheated! I -- I was on the verge of real happiness...”
Oof. This really sets the tone for his marriage with Madelyne Pryor.
Spider-Man and the Human Torch even have a little conversation.
Spider-Man: “You mean it doesn’t shake you, Torch, being here? What if we don’t get home?”
Human Torch: “The Fantastic Four have been off on space missions a couple of times, Spider-Man! We’ll get back! Believe me!”
I like when they’re friends.
So, I’m not sure what Magneto’s plan actually was. He was going to sabotage the fortress’ fusion generator as a distraction but Spider-Man’s Spider-Sense Spider-Alerts him to shenanigans afoot and he runs off to the power plant while Johnny Storm goes to get the other heroes.
Magneto decides to abandon whatever his plan was and captures Wasp as a consolation prize.
Gasp, another prisoner of war!
The Thing tries to give chase but inexplicably turns back to normal, smooth skinned Ben Grimm.
Also, Magneto escapes with the Wasp.
It’s like the aardvark says, you can get what you want and still not be happy.
Captain Marvel is holding the randomly anti-mutant ball for Hawkeye here and comments that none of the X-Men showed up to help stop Magneto.
Cap(tain America) tells her to belay that.
Captain America: “Let’s keep our minds on solving problems, not creating more!”
And they can’t even go after Magneto or rescue the Wasp right now because they have bigger problems: Galactus glowing with an awesome power and a massive storm that’s forming on Battleworld.
July, 1984
TEMPEST WITHOUT, CRISIS WITHIN!
The Beyonder has thrown in a nice stage hazard to keep things fresh in the form of a massive storm raging on Battleworld, with lighting that shatters mountains and winds that could tear someone’s limbs clean off.
Or perhaps its the unintentional result of just slapping a planet together out of random stuff you have lying around. The climate must be shot to shit.
I like it either way. Secret Wars has a lot of very toyetic collisions between groups of characters so its nice when Battleworld itself manages to be an obstacle.
Over in his giant U-shaped fortress, Magneto finally unwraps Wasp from the ball of random metal crap he has her in.
He lets her wander around until she finds him so that he can be all casual and eating a space scone.
Magneto: “Do not bother trying to attack me, my dear! My person is magnetically shielded!”
Wasp: “Well, la-de-da!”
Wasp: -blows up his space scone- “You think I have to strike at you directly to hurt you, monster?”
Hilarious spite, thy name is Janet van Dyne.
She also makes the point that magnetic shielding or no, she could bring this whole room down. Her being able to knock over a small house with her pew pew hasn’t stopped being true.
Magneto hastens to ask her not to do that because neither of them want to be out in the storm outside.
Besides, he just wants to talk! And flirt!
Magneto: “You are obviously a woman of intelligence and understanding as well as great beauty -- and I am not the monster you believe I am -- which is precisely what I wish to discuss!”
Wasp: “Oh? My intelligence, understanding and beauty or your non-monsterhood?”
Magneto: “Why... both!”
Back at the hero base (which is apparently ROUGHLY THE SIZE OF CHICAGO?? I want that playset), the storm has almost completely flooded the area, leaving just the top dome and such poking above the water.
The storm keeps dropping chunks of mountain at the base but Thor is standing on top, protecting it while grinning like a loon.
Captain Marvel even speculates that Thor could calm the storm but is whipping it up into a greater frenzy instead. Those storm gods, amirite?
Hawkeye is also standing by, with his explosive arrow, thinking to himself that if Thor fails, Hawkeye will totally save the day.
I don’t know whether that’s sad or endearing.
Mostly though he’s trying to distract himself from thinking about the new wife he left behind.
Cap, Reed, and Hulk are watching the villain base because apparently they do know where it is. The storm is keeping the villains in too but Cap figures they’ll pull one desperate attack as soon as the storm breaks.
They’ve already lost four of their dudes. Plus, Galactus isn’t a team player.
Spider-Man is just swinging around, enjoying how good for swinging the random technological pipes and tubes and whatsits are when he stumbles upon the X-Men having a secret meeting.
Professor X has decided, possibly on the basis of two (2) rude comments from Hawkeye and Captain Marvel, that the X-Men just don’t belong here and that they’d be better off going and teaming up with Magneto.
This... sure is a take.
Rogue comments that the Avengers don’t trust her because of that time she kicked their asses collectively. Which, hey, very possibly. They haven’t really had a thing to say about you though. They’ve mostly been grouchy about Magneto.
Which is kinda born out by the way he tried to blow up their base and definitely kidnapped the Wasp?? And is even now aggressively eating scones at her?
That’s the Magneto you guys want to go join because he’s more your people than the Fantastic Avengers and friends are?
You know, there’s a pattern I sometimes see with the X-Men where they loudly insist that the other superheroes don’t help them and don’t care about mutant stuff while at the same time doing shit like this.
“Should we get Reed Richards, smartest dick in the world to help with the legacy virus or the techno-organic virus Stryfe shot into Xavier? NAHHHH Beast can handle it.”
“Should we stick with the other superheroes or go hang with Magneto instead in a cool mutants only U-shaped fortress? Well, U is the coolest letter that isn’t X...”
If you squint, you can definitely see Krakoa all the way in the future.
Anyway, Spider-Man overheard all of this and goes ‘I’M TELLING!’
Wolverine tries to tell him that snitches get stitches but the thing is?
Spider-Man is ridiculous. He’s a ridiculously good combination of skills and powers which lets him make chumps out of entire groups at a time.
He’s embarrassed the Fantastic Four, the Avengers, and now he’s about to embarrass the X-Men.
After making them all feel foolish, Spider-Man gets away and goes to tell Reed what that doody-head Xavier said when Xavier uses his psychic powers to just wipe the entire encounter out of Spider-Man’s memory.
Yeah, it’s to cover their imminent blowing off but also? I don’t think he wants anyone else to find out how badly his X-Men just got stomped.
Psychics are too OP, I tell you what.
In fairness IN FAIRNESS, the X-Men kind of have the right to fuck right off if they wish. I don’t even know what it had to be in secret. In fact, doing it in secret is a massive dick move of its own for reasons.
What would the Fantastic Avengers have done if the X-Men had just said ‘hey we’re heading out’? Would they have put them in stasis tube jail? I doubt it.
Professor X made the decision to handle this the stupidest way for whatever reason. That scamp.
Speaking of Magneto, he’s over at the U-Lair turning down a partnership offer from DOOM. So, hey, he has standards.
Wasp has become less ‘i’ll blow up this room and your breakfast’ about him over the course of whatever the hell they discussed in their offscreen chat.
Magneto even starts to make out with her and Wasp is like ehhhhhhhhhh what the fuck why not.
Why is this happening?
I guess he has a...................... magnetic personality?
Eh? Eh??
No, but seriously, I do have a theory that I heard someplace but it’ll have to wait.
What’s weird is that there’s a Marvel What If about some spinoff babies that come about if the heroes and villains got stuck on Battleworld and never managed to leave.
Wasp has a son with Human Torch. Which is pretty weird and comes from nowhere. I guess a lot can happen during a massive time skip. My point being though, its weird that they didn’t have a Wasp/Magneto baby instead given the weird chemistry they have here.
Meanwhile, over at DOOMBASE, DOOM has some women in giant tubes.
That’s So Doom.
Doctor Doom: “All is ready -- ! This alien technology, so rich, so subtle... so easily harnessed to serve my purpose... Energy, tapped from the raging tempest... And two mortal subjects who dare to gamble for power -- knowing that to lose is death, for truly, here I shall test the limits of power a human body can contain! With the throwing of a switch... so -- the die is cast! Hear me -- ! Power must be seized -- ! Crave it! Welcome it! Drink it in, despite the pain... or it will destroy you.”
And thus are Volcana and Titania created!
Talk about lasting effects of Secret Wars! Titania is going to be around forever! Mostly annoying She-Hulk!
Where did Doom find two random women to give superpowers?
Denver, Colorado.
No, seriously.
That city chunk we saw as Battleworld formed? That’s Denver, Colorado, USA, EARTH.
Why isn’t there a miniseries or one-shot about a normal ass civilian from Denver having to deal with OH MY GOD WHERE DID EARTH GO?
I actually read an interesting thing re: this scene. It exists because Mattel asked Marvel to introduce some new female characters so Shooter wrote in these two and a third who I’ll get to when I do.
Mattel then promptly used none of these characters for the associated toyline.
The toyline, in fact, used none female characters at all. It made toys of characters who weren’t in the story but did not have a single female character.
So its very weird that they asked Marvel to introduce some but I’m not going to knock the results.
Doom introduces these two new characters to the other villains.
Hilariously, Absorbing Man guesses that Doctor Doom just made women from scratch. Because doesn’t it sound like something he could do?
Volcana and Molecule Man immediately hit it off, her being attracted to his sensitivity and him being attracted to... positive attention at all, I guess?
He muses that he could easily stop the storm outside, because molecules, but his therapist told him to let nature take its course. “Unless Doom asks me to!”
And Titania and Absorbing Man. They don’t hit it off. She either wants to hit him or hit that and its not clear and it might be both.
(Spoilers: Its both)
Titania: “You! Absorbing Man! You look like the toughest man here! Get up!”
Absorbing Man: “Whatcha got in mind?”
Titania: “I’m going to do anything I want to you! Everything I always wanted to do to everybody who used to be bigger and stronger than me! Maybe I’ll just play with you... or maybe I’ll make you eat dirt... or maybe...”
Absorbing Man: “Woman, if you got somethin’ to prove, prove it tomorrow against the guys we’re fightin’!”
Titania: “You’re backing down?”
Absorbing Man: “Nope! I just ain’t getting up! I got nothin’ to prove... to a dame!”
Would you believe that they become one of the healthiest and most stable romantic relationships in Marvel?
Speaking of weird relationships, back over at hero base, Thor goes and pops the lid on Enchanteress’ healing tube because he’s bored and wants to talk to a peer. A god peer.
Enchantress is at first more characteristically worried about what her face looks like after being She-Hulked.
But she then creates a portal so she and Thor can go have a chat.
Later, it’s morning and Hulk has been too busy stressing over losing his Banner smarts to actually keep watch or wake up Cap for watch like he was supposed to.
So when the villains ram an airship into the hero base, the heroes are not at all prepared.
Titania hurls a giant slab of wall through the room the Terrific Three are sharing, breaking Johnny Torch’s arm and ribs and knocking out the other two. He manages to get himself and co out of danger by melting through the floor.
Meanwhile, She-Hulk is carrying a big heavy as she’s been doing since the previous night and is caught unaware by Volcana who blasts her off her feet and then collapses the room on top of her.
Doctor Octopus knocks out Captain Marvel who is in the hot springs dome but gets chased away by Hawkeye, claiming that long-range firepower is his weakness.
I’m stunned at the implication that Doc Ock is one of Spider-Man’s most dangerous foes but could be scared off by Hawkeye while Spider-Man could pretty easily drop Clint’s ass. There’s some rock-paper-scissors nonsense at play here.
Spider-Man and Iron Man are also taken unawares by Ultron but manage to hide under some rubble.
Hulk leaps into the fray at Molecule Man and Doom but Cap convinces him to fall back to a defensible position.
The villains reconvene with all the captured villains freed except Enchantress (since she fucked off to have a chat with Thor) and the heroes scattered and buried under various rubbles. How the fortunes of Secret War turn.
Sure would have been nice if the X-Men had been around to help or if they mentioned they wouldn’t be. Sure would have been.
Doom: “We have accomplished much here today! And to finish it, we shall level this place so that no stone remains on stone!”
No wonder Mattel didn’t make a playset of this base! Dammit Doom, you’re ruining the merchandising!

82. Want to read another one of my Fair Game HC’s? I’m REEL-y happy to hear that!!!!
So, I’m sure many of you saw/read/participated in the Ace Op actors’ AMA today, where for the first time...really ever, but especially following 7X12, we got to hear Chris Whekamp’s perspective on what it was like to play Clover, and we were rewarded rather nicely! Look, we’ve had a rough past few weeks, and to see an actor who was actively sympathetic to our plight, who demonstrated that he himself put in a lot of effort into his character, and honestly just didn’t put his foot in his mouth the way a lot was honestly just the thing we needed.
While my question didn’t get answered, so many asked by my friends did, and I honestly couldn’t be prouder of them!
Actually, I’m proud of all of us Clover fans and Fair Game shippers for how we behaved today. We were respectful, played by the rules, asked thought provoking questions that never entered rude or attacking territory, and kept our salt on Discord where it belonged.
Honestly, my fandom experiences with fellow shipmates in past fandoms has had real ‘yikes’ moments (Even as recent as this week, with one of my friends being harassed and stalked), and especially given the raw deal we got three weeks ago, the way we conducted ourselves this afternoon was astoundingly mature! Special shout out to @fairgame-is-canon for being an amazing leader who has managed to keep such an emotional fandom dealing with such complex and intimidating forms of grief so well organized in the wake of this awful baiting nightmare! Rob, I think I speak for all of us in the Fair Game community when I say that you’re the fandom’s biggest spark of hope right now, and we couldn’t ask for anyone better to take on that role!
Okay! Thank you for indulging that aside of mine. Now onto the HC!
Among the things Chris spoke of was his feelings on Clover’s relationship to his weapon, Kingfisher. Now, Kingfisher has always been a really interesting thing to me. Even in a show with such a diverse set of weapons ranging from a scythe to a freakin’ trumpet, Kingfisher continues to stand out as one of the strangest. It’s a fishing rod. That’s it. Sure, we saw evidence that it MIGHT be a harpoon, but it was never used to that effect (Btw, if there was ever evidence of Clover coming back, it would be to finally see that harpoon in action), so all we’re left with is a fishing rod.
I actually touched upon theories regarding it in a previous HC, but I’m going to play with it once again because of Chris’ answer, namely that a young Clover liked to fish, and that hobby incorporated itself into Clover’s weapon when the time came to get/create one. I’ve wanted to do a Clover/Fair Game fishing HC for a while, and what better time could I have to choose to do it than now?
So, let’s do this!
-For the longest time, I pictured Clover fishing in a forest or coastal area, but considering that I also believe he never really left Atlas at all in his life, I could absolutely see him first learning to fish out in the tundra via-ice fishing. It would explain (1) how Clover is so comfortable doing missions in the arctic in just a sleeveless vest, and (2) a lot of Clover’s muscles because it makes sense that ice fishing would require a lot of power relative to other kinds of fishing because it has the added difficulty of maneuvering the resistant fish to where the hole created in the pond is, especially if the fish itself ends up being bigger than the initial hole he was working with.
-The first time Clover does any non-ice fishing fishing, it’s in Patch after he’s left Atlas. Because of all that resistance stuff I mentioned before, and its absence in the far warmer Patch, Clover ends up being really good at it! Like, he and Qrow are sent to go catch their dinner or are just fishing for funsies, and Clover’s plopping these massive fish over his head like it’s nothing. Qrow is staring at him, thinking, “I know Maidens can only be women, but is there some male variant on it that Oz never told me about (Not that it would surprise me) because THAT shouldn’t be possible!”
-Clover takes fishing trips fairly regularly. Sometimes, he’ll bring Qrow and they’ll make a day out of it. Qrow doesn’t love getting up early, not preparing the bait, but he loves relaxing once they’re out on the water. It’s so quiet and peaceful. I have this idea in my head that they usually get a boat big enough for Qrow to lean back all the way in. So Qrow will have his feet on the boat’s floor, his knees bent, and his back and neck against the wooden seats, holding his fishing rod casually in his hand. He looks up at Clover who is sitting up straight, sweetly smiling while looking down at Qrow. Clover calls him cute, and Qrow agrees, citing himself as “one hell of a catch.” It’s so peaceful out there. Qrow sits up whenever he get a bite and it gets very exciting as he pulls in his line. He’s not bad at fishing either -- not as good as Clover obviously, but he can get a few of his own catches with little issue.
-Clover and Qrow love cooking up the fish that they catch together. There’s something so satisfying about cooking up something that they caught themselves (Though they don’t like hunting). Even the gross parts of preparing the fish (A process that usually deters them from hunting) feels okay after a day out on the lake. They love pairing specific seasonings with different types of fish, sharing pieces of their dishes over dinner.
-Though Clover’s an expert when it comes to fishing in most places, the ocean has always given him trouble. He has trouble settling his line in the midst of all the waves, and just finding a spot that’s not too shallow or too unruly is really hard. It doesn’t stop him from trying, and Qrow loves him for his determination, but on some level, they both know it’s probably never going to happen. One day, Qrow throws out a line in for giggles while they’re hanging out on a dock, and within three minutes, gets a bite. That bite ends up being a nice, chunky sea bass. Qrow can’t stop laughing and gloating for over an hour after it happens, and Clover, jealous, pouts for the entirety of that hour. However, once he gets over himself and sees how happy it made Qrow to catch something like that when even Clover couldn’t, Clover smiles, realizing he wouldn’t change a thing about the circumstances.
Putting the tagged names under the cut because this got LONG!

(1/2) Hello back again!! One more day...or less than a day?? Soon either way---the big reveal happens :0 !! c: I hope that you're able to catch up on all your work!! And you're right if I don't ask I guess I'll never know for sure if they'll watch it ;; I noticed that you like the characters that most people would dislike because they are "bad" or "evil", is this just for the cql fandom or are there other fandoms that this applies to for you? and if so what other characters? - 🐇 c.c
Me? Focus on something I don’t find interesting? It’s less likely than you think!
A day...less than a day...forget day of the month; I seriously don’t even know what day of the week it is half the time.
Ah, so you picked up on my very subtle love for villains, lol. It’s definitely a cross-fandom preference of mine. (My mom had trouble getting behind LXC on her first watch because she knows I love him and so she was waiting for him to turn evil the whole time).
I usually find the villain more interesting than the heroes. More human in some ways. We have a family video of me at age three on my way to a costume party correcting someone who asked if my costume was a fairy princess--Me: “No, wicked stepmother!!” (my mom had very definitely dressed me as a fairy princess). I come from a very vanilla, conformist place, so maybe it’s some kind of subconscious rebellion on my part? How they’re freed from society’s usual restraints.
I simply love villains, at least villains with a sense of humor and complicated villains (Darth Vader does nothing for me). (I have a post drafted about why I enjoy XY so much that might eventually see the light of day). I adore Loki, love the movies’ Magneto, Villanelle...the usual suspects. Asajj Ventress, Cad Bane, COUNT FOSCO <3, Gollum, SCAR (omg), Carmilla, Debbie Jelinsky, certain comic versions of the Joker (I say that with reservations...I enjoy him but he’s not someone I’m rooting for in any way), the Grandmaster, Hela, YZMA...etc. I typically prefer my heroes with an edge, too. Artemis Fowl was my childhood crush, and when I saw Wicked I came away with a crush on Elphaba. I adore Gwen Pool, Venom, Garak, and Louis Belcher. Of course, I also love my dear sweet LXC and my favorite Avenger is Scott Lang. So if a character is kind and adorable (or sarcastic and awesome--hello, Okoye and Kira!) enough they loop around back into my zone of interest.

Mrs. Chibisquirt, if you're actually doing the ask meme "give me a character and I'll give you five scenarios for maximum emotional hurt" I'd like a Steve Roger's, please and thank you
I am doing the ask meme! It’s kind of a mental stretch for me because I’m not normally a hurt kinda person, but I’m on vacation and tumblr memes seem just about the right speed, so let’s do it!
5. Steve has to travel back to the past, and while there he has an opportunity to meet his dad. Now, Steve’s in disguise (or something) to avoid upsetting the timestream, and he has a mission he has to achieve, but while he’s there he meets Joseph Rogers and gets to know him a little bit. Probably Mr. Rogers introduces himself as “Joe” and it takes a bit for Steve to find out his last name and put everything together.
Joe and Steve talk a bit, before Joe says something about “I just got word, I’m gonna have a baby waitin’ for me when I get back! I can’t wait to meet him–!” and Steve is all set to tell him and then–
War. Shit happens. This is why you shouldn’t have personal discussions on a battlefield, Steven.
By the time Steve gets to his side, Joe’s already gone. He never knew.
4. Steve has lost everyone he ever knew in the past, except for one person. Whether it’s a vampire, or Logan, or just someone who was really young then and really old now, they’re the only one he has left of his past, the only person he can talk to about the way things were and have them understand. He’s busy with his team, but he makes time for that friend still; it’s a lifeline that he’s hanging onto as desperately as he can–and then, something happens. Whether its a fucked up battle, or Magneto, or just old age, the last person in the entire world who understood him is gone, and–oh, wait, shit, this is just Captain America: Civil War, my bad.
3. Instead of waking up in 2010 (or whatever), or whenever comics say he wakes up (do even the comic writers know???), Steve wakes up in 1980. “You’re decommissioned,” SHIELD tells him, “and also confidential. Revealing your identity would be a treason charge, except that, if you even try, there won’t be time to charge you for treason because we’ll have you disappeared and/or dead before you reach jail. In fact, that’s not your identity anymore. You have a new name, new birthday, new everything, you don’t get to access your old one, and we’re purging all records of them now. Even if you do tell people you’re Captain America, you’ll look like a crackpot.”
Steve says, “Okay,” and goes out, and starts a new life, he guesses, meets some new people, makes some new friends… Mostly the same kind of friends he had before, so: leftist, marginalized, queer, POC, etc. It takes him a while to adjust to the whole “red scare” thing being what it is, but he’s getting there, and as far as getting out and dating, well, he’s on the queer scene while looking like that status post the whole “free love” thing, so you might say he’s getting the hang of it…
And then the AIDS crisis happens.
Steve can’t get it.
But he can pass it on, and all of his new friends can get it.
No one knows what’s going on. No one knows how it transmits.
By the time anyone figures out how it spreads–by the time Steve figures out how it spreads–he’s already infected at least five people, and those are just the ones he knows about.
2. I’m gonna blatantly steal from @sineala here… Steve wakes up the same as canon, and just as in canon, there’s a war to fight.
Steve winds up back in cryo after.
He wakes up again. After the first time Steve woke up, some of his friends were still alive, but even they have passed by now.
There’s another war to fight, so he does it. By the end, though, he’s tired. Making mistakes. He loses people–some of them, people he shouldn’t have lost. He ends up in cryo again.
When he wakes up, there’s another war to fight.
Everyone he’s ever known is dead. New York City is gone, too–he tried to save it, during the last war, but… He was making mistakes. Some of them were big ones.
He fights another war.
He dies–
–no, wait, he doesn’t die. He wakes up again.
By this point, people are worshipping him: god of war, who appears when your need is greatest to destroy your enemies… It’s the last thing he ever wanted. But what else can he do? There’s a war to fight. He fights it.
He seeks out cryo, this time. He’s tired. He wants to rest. He finds him a cryo set-up and–
He can’t sleep. His body collapses, but his mind stays awake. He tries to kill himself, but he can’t do that either. He really is a god of war, now, made unkillable by their belief in him.
He will never be free from blood and death and atrocity, ever again.
1. My Avengers: Endgame “””fix-it””” idea:
Steve goes to take back all the stones, as in canon. To take a stone from Vormir, you have to give it a death, right? Well, to return a stone to Vormir, you have to give it a life.
Steve has to return to the past, live out the rest of his life, and change nothing. Whenever he tries to change something, he sees an orange glow at the corner of his eye and he knows, he knows, that that’s Vormir giving the Stone to Red Skull. So he can’t let anyone know it’s him, can’t change anything, can’t avert any of the tragedy….
He’s locked in, trapped, silently screaming in his own mind for the next seventy years.
No wonder he looks old by the time he makes it to that park bench.

people on this website be like poor wanda she was very upset and depressed thats why she made some bad things like she just made one bad thing and that was fucking genocide and I dont know that seems like a huge bad thing to me and when the young og5 were like why do we let this woman alive logan was like well shes different and we need to let her live like fuck that she fucks a toaster and summons demons to have babies and FUCKING DID GENOCIDE
my personal favourite things about decimation are
1) it made no sense IN THE CONTEXT of the story (mutant supremacy is bad so we just....eradicate them????? hello???? genosha 2.0?????)
2) marvel desperately tried to shuffle the blame of it to someone else afterwards, because they couldn’t have a Certified Avenger(tm) be responsible for the deaths of like, a bunch of kids (“quicksilver manipulated her!”, “magneto made her do it!”, “cassandra nova was involved!”, “no, DOOM was pulling the strings!”, “wait, nevermind, it was actually kang!”)
3) marvel retconning wanda and pietro’s origins made it even more painful because then suddenly it wasn’t “wanda kills and depowers millions of her own people”, it was “wanda eradicates millions of a minority race”. which fucking sucks to pin on a jewish character who, on occasion, has been the daughter of a holocaust survivor
4) there were ZERO consequences for her. afterward the event she fucked off and hid in argentina or something (which, like, BAD REAL WORLD CONNOTATIONS), and then when the x-men found her and scott wanted to bring her to justice, the avengers stepped in and captain america was like “oh sorry, we know she just killed like, millions of your people, but consider this: she kinda maybe feels bad about it?” and then NOTHING HAPPENED???
5) AND NOTHING HAS CONTINUED TO HAPPEN?
6) AND THEN!!! WHEN SCOTT AND THE X-MEN HAVE THE CHANCE TO UNDO WHAT SHE DID!! the Avengers ONCE AGAIN step in and captain america AGAIN went “sucks to suck, but we are actually just gonna destroy the phoenix now”, which LITERALLY resulted on scott and the others becoming the phoenix, and all the shit that followed
7) AND THEN, marvel decided to NERF the phoenix by....giving wanda the power to weaken it?? because apparently chaos magic (which she only has on, like, whenever marvel decides to toss a coin between “she is a mutant” / “no she is a witch actually”) can destroy it. and we are TOLD that the phoenix and chaos magic are forces that BALANCE each other, but in the end of the event she DESTROYS THE PHOENIX, which SHOULD have cause the universe to go off-balance? but fuck consistency, I GUESS
8) scott, who killed ONE man (which, personally, Had It Coming long before anyway) suffered worse consequences for his actions than the lady who wiped out an entire race during a temper tantrum

My unapologetic review of The Darkest Minds movie! Sorry it’s so long (Spoilers, obviously)
This is probably the most difficult review I’ve done yet... That reason being that I LOVED the books, they are still one of my favorite series to this day. However, I saw the movie on Sunday night, and I can’t not post a review of it. So, I’m sorry Darkest Minds fans, myself included, because we aren’t getting a sequel. They did not do a good job.
Let me rephrase what I just said, because I have two opinions on this movie. Whenever there is a book to movie adaptation of something I’ve read, I take my roommate with me to watch, because he offers a “non-reader” standpoint.
So, as we were leaving the theater, I was on cloud 9. He was sitting in the car next to me, being very quiet. I knew he didn’t like it and was afraid to say anything so he didn’t hurt my feelings, but I got him to budge and tell me his problems. So that is why I like the movie, and I hate it.
I like it because this movie was made for me. I hate it because...this movie was made for me. The Darkest Minds fans love it because it is so accurate to the books! Is it, though?
The first half hour or so are so insanely accurate that I thought my head was going to explode. Actually, as far as what we are seeing, the physical scenes, the entire movie was wildly accurate. But it’s when we start to pay attention to what is actually happening that it starts falling apart.
So Ruby is in a camp, it’s basically a concentration camp, and she’s hiding as a green. Okay, but how did that happen? Well, the doctor that examined her found out that she was an orange, and then Ruby made him change the test. Yeah...but why is he able to do that? Why does the computer allow him to manually change the results? Does the machine sometimes not work? That’s the biggest ex-machina I’ve ever seen! Moving forward, she’s at this camp to be “reformed.” Clancy was reformed, so she can be too! Yeah, but 1 kid was reformed, are you telling me that parents across the US actually believe this? Millions of kids in camp, yet 1 was healed. Wow, what a miracle! Take my kid!
The next problem is the camps themselves. There was a specific line of narration or something that said “There is no economy.” That line ruined the movie. There’s no economy? How is anything functioning? The skip tracers, how are the bounties that they collect paid for? How are the guards paid? Where does the money that keeps these camps running come from? If there’s no economy, how does the government pay for all of these camps, the guards, doctors, skip tracers, etc? Speaking of the camps, how are any of them still functioning? You’re telling me that blues, who can move and control anything, are just...walking around? Yellows are not restrained? Blues are not restrained? As if, those kids outnumber you 100 to 1, the camps would be taken over in a day. Even in Caledonia, all it took was 1 blue to break the fence, then they are all home free! You’re telling me that it took years for someone to go, “Guys, we should break the fence!” The security is dumb enough to let the kids walk around unrestrained? There’s no way in hell that any of those camps would have lasted more than a year.
Also, what are other countries doing right now? Since there is NO ECONOMY! If the US collapsed, the rest of the world is coming down with us, considering that we have 1/4 of the world’s GDP. Yeah, no, the world is screwed if America just suddenly decided to shut down.
But okay, okay, let’s say it doesn’t. Let’s say by some miracle, the rest of the world is fine. They would still send resources? And by resources, I mean people, of course. They would want to help. What happens when they come to help, realize that the camps are holding kids against their will and are torturing them? The UN would immediately step in and stop every single camp. I’m pretty sure it took the US 3 years to learn about Nazi concentration camps, and that was before the internet! All it takes is one kid, guard, parent, etc. to find out and post something online, then it would be viral, and the world would be in uproar! No way these camps last SIX YEARS!
Also this bothered me in the books too. Why are the guards mean? Like all of them? They torture and beat these kids regularly. Whether they’re scared or not, there is no way every single guard would be totally okay with beating kids, powers or no. They’re still human, unless they only hire sociopaths to be PSF’s?
Okay, so I have more to say about the lack of world building, but y’all get my point. Thanks for the socks scene Fox, but that ain’t gonna cut it. I. Need. Exposition. We. Want. Exposition!
Now let’s talk about the things they added in that were not in the books.
Ruby not being white, who cares? Amandla stole the show. Chubs being green? Fits his personality better anyways. The eye color thing? It’s kind of dumb, because I’m pretty sure that the colors originally came from the defcon color severity system, which is the exact same way as it is in the movies (green meaning good, orange meaning bad). So were the colors named after the defcon system, or the eyes? If it was the eyes, then the defcon system just magically matched up perfectly? I guess...
Anyways, I don’t really care about those changes.. I care about those two scenes, you know the two, that they added in that is just absolute garbage.
The first scene being when Ruby goes back home after escaping the camps. It goes exactly how everyone expected, being that Ruby can’t go home because her parents don’t remember her. Why did they make that scene? What purpose did that serve? We knew exactly what was going to happen. What did SHE think would happen? Did she forget what she did? Of course she didn’t! That scene was stupid and should not have been a part of the movie.
The second scene being that...thing at the end with football field and all the kids with paint or whatever. I talked about this with @itsgalaxy29 and we had similar opinions. What the HELL was that? Those are the kids from East River, I think? Well no, there were not that many kids in East River. So they were the Children’s League kids? So, movie, you’re telling me that they took kids from their duties, their missions, to go into a football field, not say a word, put paint on their hands and foreheads, and just...stand there? No, I can’t think about that scene for than one more minute without wanting to laugh.
Next, let’s talk about pacing. The movie went FAST! The run-time with credits is 1hr 45min, why did they rush everything then? That movie could have been amazing if they spent time world building, taken out the dumb scenes, and had the main actors actually learn stuff about each other. A 2hr 30min movie is pretty common these days, so it’s not like they thought that it was too long. I did not shed a single tear when Ruby took Liam’s memories. Why? Because I didn’t really care about them as a couple yet. In the books they spend, like, months together! The movie took place in.... a few weeks? Sorry Liam, you don’t love Ruby yet. Actually, you barely know Ruby. We get no information about Zu and Chubs at all. Chubs’s only purpose being to say kinda funny jokes, I guess. Zu is there to lead her to the van and then literally becomes pointless the rest of the movie. The main cast, other than Ruby, gets no exposition whatsoever, and by the end of the movie we are supposed to care about what happens to them, yet we don’t. Why should we? We don’t even know Chubs’s last name!
And finally, because I have already made this review freakishly long: Clancy. The worst character by far. In the books he is a troubled bad guy. He has some semblance of good in him, yet he doesn’t do the right thing. He’s basically Magneto. Correct me if I’m wrong, but in the books, it isn’t Clancy’s fault that the camp gets compromised. In the movie, Clancy has no reason to be the bad guy. He was tortured by the government and his father for years, and once they ‘cure’ him....he helps them? The movie wants me to believe that Clancy is helping those who tortured him for years. No. He is a villain just so the movie has a villain. We are given no reason for him to be the bad guy. Why would he compromise his own camp? What the hell was that harvest thing? Is this his first ‘harvest,’ or does he do this often? If he has done it before, how is he able to restart the camp? Do new kids show up to just Clancy by himself...and stay? That’s not suspicious at all! And okay this made me so mad, but Chubs wanted to leave because...they made him work. Chubs, of course you have to work! Nothing would get done if the kids didn’t have jobs! You can’t just sit around all day and do nothing! The camp couldn’t physically function!
The problem with this movie is that it shows you the ‘what’ and not the ‘why.’ Fans love this movie so much because they get to see their characters doing what they did in the books. People that haven’t read the books need an explanation as to what is happening and why! That’s why the reviews are so bad. They are lost. They are left wondering what was happening in the last scene, and by then the movie has moved on to the next. A good movie needs exposition, as to which this movie offers slim to none. I originally liked the movie so much because I got see Liam, Ruby, Chubs, and Zu doing shenanigans. My roommate had so many questions as to what was happening that he couldn’t like it. That’s why the movie was made for me, someone who has read the book. I don’t need the exposition, I know it already. That doesn’t make it a good movie. They need to accommodate it to people that haven’t read the book. Otherwise 90% of their audience will be lost, which is what happened.
The book is amazing, if you want to watch the movie, read the book first so you aren’t lost. I give the movie 2 stars, because a part of me still loves it because I did get to see my faves on the big screen. Thanks to @itsgalaxy29 and @kyrahchey for being willing to talk to me about it! If y’all wanna yell at me or share similar opinions, feel free to do so in the comments below. I love a good debate. pce.

The Sleep Catcher - deleted scenes
Hi there ~ I’m here because I said I would post the “deleted scenes” of my comic the Sleep Catcher. When I work on a comic, the first thing I do is writing a script to make the storyboarding easier to make (well, it looks like a fanfic here but most of the time there are only dialogues. I just needed to set the atmosphere). When I’m done with the script, I start drawing and realise some scenes are too complicated or too long for me, and then I change or delete them. So I’m going to give you the scripts of some “chapters” I never drew because we all need more kdfd content. Right ?
DELETED SCENE #1 - originally the chapter 2
This time Fudou was wide awake when he heard a muffled noise from Kidou's room again. There has been about one week since the last time, so Fudou only thought the nightmare from the other night was kind of an exception. And now, Kidou was hitting his wall again, keeping him from sleeping: once again, Fudou swore in the silent room, Tobitaka still sleeping soundly on the other bed -which was really unfair. The number eight stood up slowly and headed to Kidou's room again. He entered it without any hesitation this time, got closer to the strategist's bed to grasp his shoulders as he already did a week ago.
But somehow this time Kidou didn't wake up when Fudou shook him softly, calling his name, once, then twice. What was going on? He wondered if Sakuma could help him this time but just as he was going to wake him up, he suddenly felt a violent pain in his ribs. He barely avoided the second kick Kidou was throwing at him and turned back to see his open eyes looking at him with terrible anger and fear: Fudou froze for a little while. Was Kidou a sleepwalker or something? He carefully came closer and grabbed his shoulder before the other boy could attack him again. He only ignored Kidou's incoherent punches and said :
《Kidou, look, I don't want to harm you. It's okay.》
《You... give her back to me - She is everything I have left...》
《Haruna is sleeping. She's okay.》
《You're lying, I-I have to save her -》
《She's safe Kidou. And you're too. Come on, wake up.》
Kidou blinked twice, his face softening a little as he seemed to get a grip on himself. His breath calmed down and the tense in his shoulder left little by little, letting him nearly trembling. He seemed so exhausted it almost made Fudou's heart clench -almost. The dark haired boy sighed.
《Are your alright now ?》
《Fudou... what happened..?》
《You were having a nightmare again.》
As Kidou wasn't answering and was trembling more and more, Fudou sat up on the bed, close to him.
《Wanna talk ?》he asked.
《No... I just need to sleep.》
《You must do something about it... you can't keep going like this.》
Fudou couldn't help but notice that Kidou was bitting his lower lip in a very vulnerable way.
《Have a talk about it. With Sakuma or anyone but just... make it stop.》
《I can't talk about it... it's...-painful.》
《You're an idiot.》
Kidou blinked, nodding slowly like he was totally aware of his stupidity.
《Why... Does it feel... safe when you're around ?》the light-haired boy whispered to himself.
《Heh, you've just realised it ?》Fudou tried to joke but something in his chest was too heavy for him to use a sarcastic tone. Kidou smiled weakly, worry shining in his bright red eyes, and turned to Sakuma, absent-mindedly.
《Sakuma is still sound asleep... At least I am not bothering anyone》and then looking back at the brunette,《well, except you.》
《What was it ? Your dream I mean.》
《People. Taking Haruna away. I think the whole thing with the Mount Magneto and the Hell Army shook me up a bit. It'll stop, eventually.》
《Sure about it ?》
《I can't really do anything about it. But it's good to have you around. Somehow... you're helping me having... clear thoughts.》
《Ha is that so. You're a pretty sensitive guy, you know that Kidou-kun ?》
《Can't help it.》
Fudou shrugged silently, thinking that Kidou's fragility was both a curse and a blessing: somehow, behind his calm face and his goggles, Kidou was the kind of guy who was panicking in a dangerous situation involving his loved ones and then having nightmares about it for weeks. Fudou remembered how he was waking up in the middle of the night when he was little, because of bad dreams. Back then his mother used to take him in her arms to softly rock him until he could fall asleep again. He felt an outburst of affection invading his chest as he looked at Kidou, who was silent, staring at the ceiling. Even if Kidou was trying to look like he knew what he was doing, in fact, there was still a little boy deeply hidden in him, and all those nightmares only were this little boy's fears.
《You should close your eyes if you want to sleep.》Fudou pointed out, pulling Kidou's blanket up to cover him. Kidou seemed to be surprised by his gesture but Fudou ignored it, standing up and walking to the room's door.
《Fudou ?》
《Nh ?》
《If I have bad dreams... can you wake me up again ?》
Fudou shrugged, opening the door with a nonchalant movement.
《Maybe.》
DELETED SCENE #2 - beta of the actual part 3
Fudou was fed up by the team's enthusiasm and all those merry shouts were giving him a headache over time. He decided to leave the refectory before someone starts to cry out of joy and walked alone in the silent corridors, back to the field, for some practice.
《Want to do some passes with me ?》he heard in his back, and he almost smiled when he recognized Kidou's voice.
《You're not reading your postcards ?》
《I didn't receive any.》
《Endou said there was a letter from the Raimon team for everyone. Don't wanna listen to how they believe in you and all their lovely cheerings ?》
《You didn't receive anything ?》
《Heh. Postcards are useless anyway, I'm glad no one sent me those crap.》
《Mh.》
Fudou was partly lying; he was expecting he would receive one from his mother at least, but... She may not even recognize him now. He was not sad (postcards are useless, remember ?) but somehow... hurt. Everybody was reading and enjoying their close friends' or parents' cheerings now and he was the only one with just nothing. It was so frustrating to be a nobody... even for his own mother.
《You're alright ?》Kidou asked softly, getting closer, and Fudou's bad mood only increased more.
《What do you think I am going to say ? "Oh my god, I'm gonna cry because I wanted a postcard from mama too" ? It's stupid, I said this already. Now shut up and help me with my practice.》
Kidou followed him without saying anything, and Fudou was grateful for this : the rest of the team joined them not much later, being totally motivated by the letters they just read, and it made Fudou feel even worst. He stopped practicing slightly earlier than usual and gave everyone shit when they tried to talk to him. He convinced himself he would feel better after a nap, so he walked back to his room and slept a little before dinner.
He woke up when Haruna knocked at his door to inform him the meal was ready, mumbled he was coming and walked to his shut door. He frowned, realising there was something stuck in the doorway, and squatted down to examine the strange paper sheet : it was a postcard, visibly from Liocott Island. He swallowed down, reading what was written at the back of it.
You are not alone, Fudou.
Fudou entered the refectory, looking for Kidou among his teammates; he finally spotted him, sitting down at Hijitaka's table with his food tray. He took a tray too and joined him, sitting down violently next to him.
《Oi oi, be careful, Fudou.》 Hijitaka said, putting an escaping cherry tomato back in his plate.
《I'm not a kid.》Fudou only replied, knowing that Kidou would know what he was talking about. The boy with the cloak shrugged silently, eating his rice without even looking in his direction.《Stop taking pity on me.》
《I really meant what I've written. Just wanted to let you know.》
《Oh yeah ? I don't need you.》
《Fine then.》
《Yeah, fine.》
《... You guys...》sighed Hijitaka.
Fudou started eating, ignoring the defender's reaction, feeling a strange, tickling feeling warm him up from inside his body, filling his heart with a curious satisfaction. Later, he wondered if it was because of the postcard, or because Kidou's knee touched his slightly during the whole meal.
DELETED SCENE #3 - happens after part 2 and before part 3
When Kidou opened his eyes this time, Fudou was already there, leaning on him and softly shaking his shoulders to wake him up. His dream was sticking on his retinas even though he was blinking, and snippets of sadness and fear filled him over and over again as he was feeling tears in the corner of his eyes.
《Haruna again ?》asked Fudou with an impenetrable voice when Kidou straightened a bit, chasing the last reminiscences of his dream.
《Not sure... I guess so.》
《You're crying again.》
《I'm not.》Kidou replied dryly, whipping the corner of his eyes.《I'm tired of this... I just want to sleep one whole night.》
《Tell me what your dream was about.》
《None of your business.》
《You wanted me to wake you up, so now is your chance to talk a bit.》
《I don't want to. It's not... everybody's nightmare ok ? It's too painful, I... I can't even speak about them without...》
... crying. Fudou was staring him with a determined look: Kidou wanted to bury himself against him, wanted to hide behind those truthful arms. He wanted a hug, he needed it so much it was tempting to ask for it. He moistened his lips.
《Close your eyes.》he said, trying to sound confident while he was wondering himself what he was doing. Fudou raised his eyebrows, but obeyed anyway, closing his green-blue eyes slowly in the dark. Kidou buried his nose in his neck, his lips pressed against his collarbone in a, somehow, timid kiss. He felt Fudou's hand in his hair pretty fast after that and heard something like a sigh.
《Need some love, Kidou ?》Fudou breathed, and there wasn't a hint of mock in his low voice.《Go ahead.》
《I won't force you if you don't want to do it.》
《Please Kidou, it's a hug you're talking about. Just do it and go to bed, I'm tired.》
《Can you come under the blanket just for a minute ?》
Fudou shrugged and lifted the cover to slip next to the other strategist. Kidou swallowed silently and put his arms around Fudou, shyly. They struggled first to find a good position but soon enough, Kidou was closing his eyes, cosily curled up in Fudou's warm hold. It was curious that they were so comfortably laying back in the one-place bed : they should have been lacking space or something, but instead, everything was warmer, calmer, just... better than when Kidou was sleeping alone. He totally forgot about Fudou's arms around his waist, suddenly feeling too drowsy to even warn him he was going to fall asleep.
The last thing he felt was Fudou's regular breath on the edge of his jaw, and then it went all black.
DELETED SCENE #4 - happens before part 5
"This is the stupidest idea ever." Fudou groaned, irritated: of course, it was, what was the coach thinking when he suggested doing an orienteering run in the woods? Of course, they would get lost!
"What should we do ?" Fubuki asked. "The sky is getting dark..."
"We should stay here before getting even more lost. They will find us tomorrow." Kidou supposed, shrugging. "We need to light a fire."
Fudou stared at Kidou and Fubuki while they were starting the fire : the brunette could imagine that Fubuki was used to light them since he was living in Hokkaido, a really cold region. But how came that Kidou was able to do it too ? He only prepared some of their cereal bars for the dinner and leaned against a tree trunk.
"Where did you learn how to light a fire ?" he asked later, when the 14 and the 9 joined him.
"Camping class ! We're camping in the mountains sometimes with school." answered the grey-haired with a nice smile -as always actually. "But I am surprised Kidou knows too."
"Camping too."
"Camping huh ? As if the Kidou family was camping..."
Fudou realised what his answer was implying and stopped it mid-sentence: but... it didn't make sense. How old was Kidou when he lost his parents? Fudou had always thought Kidou became an orphan pretty soon in his life, but what if it wasn't the case ?
"Anyway," he said, avoiding Kidou's glare while starting eating his cereal bar.
Fudou ended up looking at the night sky, hearing Fubuki's calm breath in the silence. He wondered if the others were already gone back to the Inazuma inn or if some of them were still stuck in this stupid forest. Some of the path tags were missing, or they would never have lost their way : Fubuki was used to forest orienteering and Kidou and him were the two genius of the team, how could it be otherwise?
"Fudou, you're sleeping ?" the dark-haired boy suddenly heard. He sighed and turned toward the other midfielder to see his bright red eyes shining in the dark.
"I am."
"Liar. The ground is hard and cold, I can't find sleep..."
"What did you think ? That you were going to find a cosy canopy bed in the middle of the woods ?"
"Cut it out... Gosh, I'm freezing."
Fudou couldn't help but straighten a bit to look at the strategist: he was curling up on the dusty ground, slightly trembling even though he had his cloak over him like a blanket. Fudou realised the fire had turned into embers and felt the temperature was a little bit chilly. He got closer to Kidou, ignoring his surprised glance as he laid back next to him.
"What are you..."
"Warming up."
"You or me ?"
"Both."
Fudou heard a smile in Kidou's sigh this time and felt his arms around him pretty soon. He blushed, doing the same with his arms, pulling the other boy closer to share some human warmth, sticking his lips on the corner of his cheeks, in a -almost- tender way. He heard Kidou swallowing and bit his lower lip, embarrassed.
"Feeling better ?" he asked, trying to get rid of the strange feeling catching his chest.
"Can you pull me closer ?"
"Wha- We're already really close together, I can't."
"Fudou..?"
"Nh ?"
"I learned how to start a fire with the boy scouts. My adoptive father sent me to some of the scout camps when I was little... I hated it."
"Why ? Sounds fun to go camping with friends."
"They weren't my friends. They bullied me all the time. The day I punched one of them back, he told his parents about it and they came to my adoptive family to tell them. I got expelled from the boy scouts."
"Are you serious ?"
Fudou laughed a little. It was the funniest thing he heard in the day, Kidou being a naughty little kid fighting with other boy-scouts and being expelled for it. Kidou's grip tightened as he was laughing calmly.
"It's both funny and ridiculous you know that ?" Fudou pointed out finally.
"It was a traumatic experience."
"What a drama queen."
"... hey."
"Hn ?"
"Sleeping in your arms is... kinda nice. I'm feeling so calm, I don't have nightmares when you're around."
"Wow... seriously ?"
"Hm hm. I'm glad we're getting along because it feels somehow... safe around you. It's like I know I don't need to worry because no matter what, you will help me protect the ones I love."
"I'm not your sister's bodyguard."
"You protected Haruna against the Hell Army. You saved her. And you saved me."
"I helped you save her. It's different." Kidou gave him a surprised look, so he added: "You don't need me. You need security. I gave you some, and you saved Haruna by yourself."
Kidou didn't reply right away. They both listened to the forest's silence, punctuated with the song of crickets, rustling leaves and wind. The crackling embers were still warming them a little and coloured the night blue woods with red glowing shades. Fudou could feel Kidou's warmth around him, feel his slow breath on his lower lip and chin: he could almost forget he was sleeping on a hard, cold and dirty surface.
"Thank you." Kidou finally said with a soft sigh.
Fudou didn't reply and they fell asleep soon after.

Age of Apocalypse: Daredevil 101 Edition
Age of Apocalypse is a canon Marvel AU from the mid-90s. It’s primarily an X-Men story, but I read the whole thing because Avengers Academy had just introduced the Matt from that universe, Keeper Murdock, and I wanted to know what his deal was.
This is how you know that I love Matt Murdock a lot, because AoA is extremely terrible. It makes zero sense and is boring besides, and the art is astonishingly bad. But I read it all, and also all the spinoffs and sequels I could find, and now I am here to share this hot 90s garbage with all of you. Because I care.
Setup-wise, all you need to know is that in this universe, a time-traveling Legion killed Professor X, allowing the extremely powerful mutant Apocalypse to take over the world and enslave non-mutants. Some mutants, most notably Cyclops and Beast, work for him, while Magneto and his honey Rogue lead the mutant resistance against Apocalypse. Everyone is very world-weary and has bonkers hair.
Matt is a non-mutant, of course, but one of Apocalypse’s top henchmen, Mikhail Rasputin, has been experimenting on upgrading humans to make them more useful. After Matt lost his sight during his usual childhood heroics, he became the upgrade program’s first success, with augmented senses thanks to the visor grafted onto his face:
Okay Matt doesn’t have bonkers hair, Matt has no hair. Also I don’t know why he wears a visor to augment everything but his eyes. I told you AoA didn’t make sense.
Sidenote: Avengers Academy made him SO MUCH CUTER:
HIS LITTLE DYSTOPIAN BOWTIE.
Anyway, Matt’s job is to guard and monitor a mutant named Empath, hence the name “Keeper Murdock.”
Empath’s power is to manipulate emotions, and Rasputin has him hooked into a computer so that his power can extend to cover the human population of Eurasia and keep them docile. It’s extremely painful and also, um, real kinky:
Why does Empath have to be naked??? You’ll have to ask Rasputin I guess.
Anyway towards the end of the story Matt accidentally touches him and feels, for a split second, the agonizing pain Empath is in all the time. Horrified, he decides to put Empath out of his misery:
In case you don’t want to read all that dumb text, Matt has ripped the visor off, only to discover that he still has his powers - which means they came from the accident that blinded him, and he owes nothing to Rasputin. Questions still unanswered:
1. Did Matt not know that someone who screams and cries all the time is probably in pain?
2. It’s implied that once Empath is dead, Matt’s free of his influence and “a man without fear.” If Empath was affecting him, why didn’t he increase Matt’s “let the prisoner go” feelings?
3. Matt’s seriously okay with enslaving the whole human race and keeping someone in eternal torment as long as that torment only goes up to 10 and not 11?
4. WHY IS HIS FACE SO LUMPY???
Anyway, that’s basically the extent of Matt’s adventures in the original AoA storyline.
Wondering what’s happening with the other Defenders? Danny and Luke are nowhere to be seen and Jessica hasn’t been invented yet, but let’s check in with Misty and Colleen:
Oh, Misty’s had her arm ripped off and Colleen’s a zombie. That’s a bummer. (Yeah, there are zombies in this universe too, randomly, at the end. Why not.)
AoA was a popular enough experiment that Marvel returned to it multiple times through the years, even setting a short-lived ongoing in that universe in 2012. Matt looks a lot better there:
Yeah, I guess Matt gave up on being a good guy for four seconds and went back to being an enforcer? Anyway now he has lackeys called Hounds, which I’m admittedly kind of into.
Also, he’s real bendy:
Well hello to you too, Matthew.
SO BENDY.
“Once the Keeper has heard your heartbeat you’re his forever.” Well that’s downright romantical, Matt. (Ahem. I, uh, may have some unfinished slavefic from this universe saved somewhere.)
Marvel revisited this universe in 2015, ignoring a lot of their previous continuity, so Matt’s be-visored again for some reason:
...And that’s all I’ve got of AoA Matt! Again, it is a very dumb story and Matt has a very dumb role in it. But at least we get to see what he would look like bald, if that’s...a desire you had for some reason. You’re welcome, I guess.
Let me know if you’d like to see other AU editions of Daredevil 101 like this, like 1602 or Spider-Girl...or hell, even Spider-Gwen. Also, the next regular installment of Daredevil 101 is coming soon. Stay tuned!

So I just watched Black Panther. Not spoiler-free.
1) The visuals!! You know how most Earth-based Marvel-movies got such boring visuals? Not this one! It blew my mind.
2) Also good music!
3) 3D really pays off for this movie. I’m not a 3D snob, but DAMN!
Okay now plot-things:
4) I don’t think I need to say it because basically everyone says but Shuri is a true Wakandan national treasure. Tony Stark who?
5) Erik! He did almost nothing wrong. (Except threaten Shuri. Also kill his girlfriend. Dude. She was with you, man!)
6) T’Challa’s conflicted emotions and growth about Erik! The first time T’Challa met his father on the ancestoral plane he adored him and didn’t know how to live without him - the second time after he learnt the truth he actually critises him and yells at him for abandoning Erik. T’Challa calling Erik cousin. T’Challa taking Erik to see the sunset his father promised him. I think the way T’Challa regards Erik boils down to when he calls him a Monster, but a Monster of their own making. He knows where his father went wrong. And it actually develops further when he calls him cousin.
7) Erik just walking in like: “I want your throne!” and everyone laughs but two scenes later he’s sitting in it. Also the moment Shuri says that T’Challa can’t possibly lose and from that moment on I knew he would lose and damn I was so conflicted. But generally the movie did a good job of not being entirely predictable (which is often a problem with superhero movies lbh).
8) But in all seriousness Erik was screwed over so bad and I feel conflicted about it, because he died and wanted to die in the end - rather than live a prisoner - but I also want to see him grow and connect to Wakanda and what family he has in a healthy way - or go out there and help people and do all the nasty shit T’Challa couldn’t bring himself to do. Just let him be happy and also let him and T’Challa connect as cousins. I guess it’s Marvel and I guess they’ll find a way to bring him back but I hope they’ll do it in a good way that actually helps his character. And considering the way he died and his last words I think bringing him back in a way that actually gets the character somewhere would be a pretty hard thing to do. If they do it, I wouldn’t mind if they waited until they have a got storyline. Don’t Magneto him to death. (By which I mean: Don’t routinely give him two seconds of character development just destroy it by making him the villain of every future movie. Not meant as disrespect to my favourite Magnet)
9) “Another broken white boy to fix.” Shuri I love you.
10) Okay but I’m a huge fan of Mountain Guy (I mean I forgot his name but otherwise I’m a huge fan. “We’re vegetarians.” Amazing.)
11) This movie actually sorta kinda made me like Ross. Rost? Martin Freeman. He didn’t suck. Good job Ron.
12) I love the way they commented on the refugee crisis. Generally I loved the way they dealt with political topics and the way they worked it into the world-building for Wakanda didn’t seem artificial or preachy and it actually fit the characters and made sense. Also I liked that it came after Thor: Ragnarök, the story of a giant imperialistic state falling under the weight of its past after it controlled all those realms under the guise of helping them and now we got Black Panther about a country that took the opposite way and kept to itself even if it could help. It’s really a great contrast ending with really different dilemmas and I hope Thor and T’Challa meet in Infinity War and have a conversation.
13) I usually love quirky villains but somehow I found Klaue a bit annoying and I was glad when Erik killed him, because I feel like he would have taken away some of the drama if he had brouhgt him to Wakanda alive. Good job Erik. Although his singing career was inspiring if short-lived. I guess his record sales are soaring now. By which I mean maybe his Mum bought one to burn it.
14) I love that Erik’s ancestoral plane was his apartment from when he was a kid. That scene was heart-breaking.
15) We were all joking about what Bucky would say when he sees Steve’s new look but what will Steve say now that Bucky looks like Jesus?
16) Also listen Shuri I love you, you know I do, but “There is so much you have to learn” is probably the last thing the ex-Winter Soldier wants to hear upon waking up
17) I loved the technology and architecture of Wakanda? I mean, the architecture and fashion and everything got so many elements from various African cultures but at the same time the technology is in so many ways so fundamentally different from the technology in the other movies that it seems really credible that it was developed independently. I loved those sand holograms
18) Nakia was great and I loved her since her first apperance. Also they didn’t really force the relationship between her and T’Challa onto the audience and we know that they actually have a history together and he specifically wanted to have her there for his coronation so it’s not one of these random: “Superhero meets girl, they fall in love” or “Nerd liked girl out of his league, becomes super hero and saves her and she SEES him” stories. Nah, they’re adults and they got a romantic connection and it’s complex. Although I would have loved to know more about their past.
19) Okoye is badass. But I also like how her storyline focussed on the question of serving your king vs serving your country and where the line is between the two of them.
20) Okay one thing that bothered me was - and it’s predictable as always - that Erik could have had more screen-time. He was barely in the first part of the movie and yeah we learn about his growing up and his struggle and I think the things he did to get where he does in the movie and the way he sees the world speak for themselves and it’s clearly that he’s not only doing what he does for himself, but I would still have enjoyed a bigger focus on him, because I already saw people complain that he’s another boring one off Marvel-villain when wtf? WHERE? Also I would have loved to learn more about his mother and what happened to her.
21) Personally except for Klaue that movie doesn’t really have forgetable villains. Most of them aren’t really villains - as in Bad Guys(TM) at all. W’Kabi is really interesting and has a personal relationship with T’Challa and his motivation is a personal problem that reflects the bigger theme of the movie and M’Baku (I looked up his name) is also not really a villain, but an interesting character and I think he’s great as a contrast to Erik in regard as to how they treat Wakandan tradition when it comes to archieving their ends.
22) Generally everyone could have gotten more screen-time but in the movie is called Black Panther and it’s T’Challa’s movie (although T’Challa could also have gotten more screen-time). I remember reading that the original versions was like 4 hours or something where is my Director’s cut?
23) It was epic and I want to go again.
#Black Panther#this is basically everything I could think of now after just getting out#there's probably more but it's 3 am and my brain doesn't work anymore#fandom#marvel#mcu

connieswap au character analysis
DISCLAIMER: this may never see the light of day, i mentioned it to br42 and they said it would be a great idea, but what do we know?
anyone who has read connieswap knows that the story is totally different from the source material. sure the same events happen as those in the show, but the characters themselves react differently to those situations, which domino-effect into a completely different storyline. written below are just a few of the observations i have made about the characters and why they do the things that they do.
Connie: Connie Maheswaran, daughter of the Crystal Gem leader Citrine and the human Dough Maheswaran is being raised by the three remaining Crystal Gems: Lapis, Peridot, and Jasper (not nessisarily in that order mind you) she is caught in a horrible ballance between trying to live up to the legacy of her dead mother and carving out a name for herself (thank god she goes to therapy in the story, lord knows she needs it)
what i notice most about connie is how much she reflects what she has learned from the gems while she was growing up: the determination that turns to stubborness from Jasper, the intellectual processing habits of Peridot that leads her to overthink things from time-to-time, and the care-free fun of Lapis that if left unchecked leads to sloppiness. much like Steven in the source material (which shall be refered to as the SM from this point forward) that balance between the three helps create a stable relationship between all of them, but also inadvertandtly puts a lot of stress on Connie to try and hold them all together. Thankfully for her the other gems are *just* emotionally mature enough to also talk to each other, and not use Connie as a medium for their own growth (looking at you SM, amythist was right, stop dumping your centuries-old complexes on a 14 YEAR OLD).
Peridot: okay, first of all i have to stop and say real quick, as much as i love P-dot in the SM, she isn’t exactly the best person (gem? one of the two). shes rude, she has overstepped her boundries when discussing other people’s feelings (see the smaller-than-average lake) and she has a tendency to focus more on herself than others. thats fine in the SM because shes a side character, and not the focus of the show, but in the AU she is one of the main focuses of the story, and therefore her actions are less justifiable. thankfully she gets a complete refresh in this story given that she has had some 300+ years AT LEAST to mellow out.
now, back to the analyisis
Peridot’s backstory in this AU is that she was abducted by Lapis from homeworld post-rebellion, and eventually joined the Crystal Gems after realizing the potential for life on earth. because she is the only era-2 gem on earth with all the other era-1s, she is extremely protective of her limb enhancers, which she kept in working condition for the entire duration on earth despite minimal homeworld resources. when her enhancers were destroyed by Rose Quartz, she fell into a depressive slump, until after a meditative period she came to the epifany that she didn’t need her limb enhancers to still be a worthwhile member of the Crystal Gems, she unlocked her metal-bending powers (ferokinesis i know, i just can’t spell the damn word and i refuse to look it up) and more importantly, discovered new ways of merging era-1 and era-2 tech, a feat previously impossible to both earth and homeworld gems.
Peridot is extremely protective of Connie, possibly stemming from her promise to Citrine that she would take care of her, and spent the first year of Connie’s existance raising her without the support of the other two remaining gems on earth, who presumably needed the time to mourn.
What this tells us about Peridot is that she is cares deeply about her family and her charges, and often worries that she isn’t capable of doing her part, despite being arguably the most valuable member on the team with her communications and surveillance equiptment to tell the gems where their next mission is. I would guess that she overcompensates to make up for the fact that she lacks the physical strength of her companions. how this will change now that she has magneto powers, we are yet to see.
Jasper: Jasper was a soldier to pink diamond during the rebellion before Citrine convinced her that she (Citrine) was more worthy of her loyalty. the fact that Jasper may also have been in love with Citrine is besides the point. Jasper is gruff, keeps things short and to the point, and is immensly disiplined. in short, a perfect soldier, which since thats what she was created to be, makes her a perfect gem. Jasper reminds me a lot of the gentle giant trope, minus the gentle part during battle. what interests me the most about Jasper is her ability to invoke a sense of thoughtful intelect despite being the least chatty of all the gems. she has this way of saying just the right thing and nothing more, almost like a carefully calculated sword stroke.
In the most recent chapter (ch 39) we get more context to jasper’s defection: homeworld prides itself on function; the better a gem can handle the task it it given, the more valuable it is to gem society. Jasper prides herself on being a ‘perfect’ quartz: exactly suited for her role with no failings or flaws. Despite her perfection, jasper was never able to handle one mission: defeat Citine in a fight. This cause turmoil and quite a bit of guilt for jasper, after all if she is perfect, why can’t she accomplish a simple task? This lead her to the eventual solution, either she is flawed, or her orders, and subsequently her diamond, are flawed. Eventually jasper saw that despite her ‘perfect’ diamonds efforts, the rebellion was still standing strong; with which jasper concluded that it must be her diamond that is wrong, and not herself. Even though she knows she was right, jasper still wrestles with the guilt of her decision ever day.
Lapis: ho boy, Lapis. where do i begin? Lapis was also an agent of homeworld, though through a dramatic fight between herself and Bismuth (and we are seriously never going to get that scene in cannon? *thanos voice* fine, i’ll do it myself) she decided to switch sides and single-handedly brought down homeworld’s air supperiority during the rebellion. needless to say, that kind of power needs a pretty heafty nerf to keep her in check, queue in a millenia of bad choices and even worse coping mechanisms, coupled with a large dose of PTSD and depression, possibly bipollar disorder (don’t quote me on that, i’m not a psychiatrist) and you have the most messed-up character you’ve ever seen in your life. one part crippling mental health issues, one part nuclear bomb, life for Lapis is not that fun, despite her insistance that nothing is wrong, shes totally fine thank you.
despite her mental issues, Lapis tries so hard to keep herself in check. cracking jokes and making every situation as light as possible to keep the mood from getting too serious, binge-eating on donuts and reading mangas to distract herself from any anxieties, I think she lives in perpetual fear that she might one day crack under all the pressure of her life and sink another continent under the ocean. she copes by removing herself from the stressful situation, regardless of the consiquences because, to her at least, not destroying the world is more important than facing the dissapointment of Jasper and Peridot. man, she really needs to see that therapist that Connie is going to.
this got way longer than i thought it would be, if its popular, i’ll post what i’ve got on the other characters in a part 2

A/N : Hey I kind of lost the name of the person that wanted to be tagged on this one, so please send it again... 😅
Word Count: 3201
Chapter 1 Chapter 2.1 (Pre.) Chapter 3 Chapter 4 Chapter 5 Chapter 6 Chapter 7 Chapter 8 Chapter 9 Chapter 10 Chapter 11 Chapter 12 Chapter 13 Chapter 14
You were looking at the woods in front of you, the snow flew with the wind, gently as soft when it touched your skin. For some reason you felt kind of uneasy, it wasn’t the weather, you liked it to be this way, snow falling from the sky, chill, all looking white, you really liked the sight infront of you, but there was one thing uncomfortable and you didn't know what it was.
"Are you okay? Did you saw something?" T'challa asked you after he followed your eyes into the woods.
"Yeah, I'm fine I just don't feel comfortable here" you told him, turning your head to see him.
"It may be for the story Cap told us there" T'challa said like it was nothing.
And it really was nothing, you weren’t afraid of ghosts it was just the place, it was very mysterious, in all the time you had spent there, you hadn’t heard or see any kind of animals, no birds flying or singing, nothing running in the snow, it was really silent and that was something strange for you.
"It can be, but doesn’t it feel strange to you? there are not animals in here" you said once more looking at every pine tree.
“Well, it’s winter, most of them may be sleeping, and it’s Finland, the place it’s freezing to death” T’Challa said, he placed a hand in your shoulder.
“And I wonder why Steve wanted us to land here, I mean, everything looks similar, there’s no sight of the factory” you told him
"Maybe their radars told them we were near, and by the way, you can turn on your comm's now" T'challa told you before looking up at the white sky.
"I'll never understand how you see every move I make" you told him with a chuckle, then you did what he told you.
"It's not that hard, we are friends after all" T'challa told you, and even if you couldn't see his face, you knew he was smiling, and you answered in the same way.
"Y/N! Did you really turned off your comm's?!, you all are acting like kids today!" you heard Steve's scolding in your ear.
"There's no need to scream Steve, I can hear you even if I don't want it" you told him with a chuckle.
"Anyway, how's everyone? report" Steve asked a little more relaxed.
"Well, I'm fine just with a headache I guess" you said.
"Everything's fine with me" T'challa answered.
"I'm fine, but Clint it's throwing up" Sam said.
T'challa and you turned around just to see a disgusting scene, and both of you turned your backs to Clint once again.
"Clint!, fuck turn your head to the other side! look at my boots now!" Sam said annoyed.
"No need to tell us all Sam, and by the way, We are fine here" Wanda said.
"Well we are okay here too, so we gotta find the sensors, Sam stay there until Clint's fine, report any kind of strange activity" Steve said.
"Sure Cap" Sam answered.
"And don't turn off your comms!" Steve said as a final order.
"Jeez, just relax, you’re really bossy. Anyway, what if T'challa and me look around for the factory?" you asked Sam
"Y/N you heard Steve, and we have to go, together. " Sam said with a final tone.
"Yeah but, Clint it's throwing up all the past and this month, and T'challa and me can just look around" you said, still not wanting to see Clint's scene.
"It could save us more time, maybe we can find some sensors, we are near the factory anyway" T'challa said.
"Y/N, all together, it's final" You heard Steve's voice and you knew he was annoyed.
"I really hate this things, you know?" you said to no one in particular.
"We can go, don't worry, I'm fine" you heard Clint's voice.
Finally both of you could turn around, Clint was paler than the snow and he didn't look any well.
"You sure you're okay?" you asked very concerned.
"Yeah, don't worry it was just...the landing" he told you trying to sound fine.
"Fine. We'll, lead the way Falcon" you said to Sam.
"I guess Redwing is going to do that work" Sam said with a smirk.
"Why didn't we do that in first place?!" Clint said, he sounded betrayed.
"Don't fight Clint, now, let's see what's ahead us" Sam said when Redwing flew into the woods.
Everything on the footage of Redwing seemed normal, snow and snow, trees and trees until it began to glitch, both, Redwing and the footage, first anyone said nothing, but then the screen went black for seconds.
"Okay, that was a big fail" Clint said when Redwing fell on the snow.
"This is no good" Sam said trying to make Redwing fly.
"Please, be more specific about that" You said, your eyes looking at Redwing on the video.
"Well, Redwing isn't answering to any command, nor even to turn off." Sam said.
"So... what now?" T'challa asked.
"I'll see the last position of Redwing, maybe it reached an sensor... okay this is so fucked up..." Sam said scanning into Redwing's data.
"I'm getting tired of that quote" you said really tired.
"What's wrong now?" Clint said tired of the situation too.
"The last position of Redwing, it's behind us" Sam said more confused.
"This is so damn stressful!" You said kicking some snow.
"In what kind of place are we?! for God sake!" Clint shouted in the air.
"Okay, let's ask the others their position, maybe they don't have this problems" T'challa said.
"Still, I don't get it, this place is nuts" Sam said, once more he was confused.
"I'll bring Redwing, just give me a second" you said to Sam, all you wanted was to go home.
"Fine, do that Magneto, T'Challa, ask Tony where are they, Clint talk with Natasha, I'll see if Red Wing reply the commands" Sam said before turning his attention back to Red Wing's data.
You tried to concentrate in your powers to locate Redwing but you couldn't find him with other voices talking in the comm's, so again you turned the damn thing off. You closed your eyes searching for it, but you didn't felt you powers coming to life, once again, you tried to bring some metal to your fingers, but nothing, then you tried to fly, and again nothing, you made a final try with Sam's wings, but nothing again.
"Sam" you asked a little scared.
"What?" Sam asked you, he was still focused on the virtual data.
"Sam, are my eyes white?" you asked turning towards Sam.
"Hmm? Why you-" he asked you in a normal tone, until he saw your eyes.
"Sam, are they white?!" you asked again, you begin to get scared with his lack of words.
"No" he said walking towards you.
"What?!" you said totally scared now.
"Okay Y/N, relax, once more, try to fly" he placed both of this hands on your shoulders.
"It's not working! Sam what the fuck it's happening!?" you shouted.
"What's happening?!" Clint and T'challa arrived next to you.
"My powers, they don't work" you said, your breathing started to be faster.
"Hey, hey, Y/N look at me, everything is fine, maybe it's because you are tired of this place, common, breathe with me" Sam told you, but you couldn't listen to him.
You heard Clint asking Wanda if she was in the same situation as you, but you didn't heard the answer.
"Turn her comm's on" T'challa said to Sam.
"You’re damn stubborn as your father" Sam told you after turning on your comm's
"Wanda's power doesn't work too, I’m afraid neither mine’s, Thor can you fly?" you heard Vision.
"What’s happening?!, nothing in here works?!" Natasha asked.
“I still can fly but not too high” Thor informed us all.
“What are we going-” Sam began to talk before he paused, his looked at the radar on his arm when it started to make noises.
“What is that?” Clint asked, now we were focused on Sam’s arm.
“Shit!, everyone hold-” Sam shouted before some kind of force make everyone fly.
The force that caused it was really strong it made everyone fly in different directions in the sky. You heard everyone screaming through the comms. For you luck, Tony made you a kind of wristband that records when you are in danger to activate your own Iron man suit. You were falling into the woods once again when this wristband started to protect your body from any kind of danger, still, you hitted many pine trees and then the snow. You were in process to stand up when the suit registered the same strange waves as Sam's radar and once again you flew through the skies, but this time you didn't fell, and it was weird you wasn't using the suit to fly nor your powers, you looked at the sky searching for your teammates, you saw Wanda really far away from you, you were going to fly towards her when this force acted now in a invested way, it dragged your body to the ground violently, leaving you unconscious for minutes.
"Sam? Wanda? Bucky? Vision? Clint? Y/N ? are you okay?" You heard as an echo.
"Sam, Wanda, Bucky, Vision, Clint, Y/N Report" You heard once more, this time you were returning to life.
"Sam, Wanda, Bucky, Vision, Clint, Y/N Report" You heard Steve's voice, he sounded worried and hurt, still you hadn't manage to talk, you need it a little time.
"I found Wanda!" you heard Tony's voice, he was relieved.
"Fine, where are the others?" You heard Bruce, he sounded hurt too.
"I'm still searching for Vision" Thor said.
"Can we go home? I feel like after training with Nat " you finally spoked.
"Thanks God! Where are you Y/N?!" You heard Tony's worried-dad voice.
"How I'm supposed to know that?, everything looks exactly the same everywhere, and I think the radar is broken" you said while standing up, and fuck, you felt really bad.
"Can you fly?, maybe I can see you in the sky" you heard Thor.
"I'll be fine, I’ll look for Sam and Clint" you said by looking around.
"Fine, just, take care" you heard Steve's voice.
You began to walk in the woods but the suit was damn heavy, so you made it return to their initial state. You walked and walked looking and calling everywhere for Clint and Sam, but you just couldn't find them nor the others.
You felt better when you heard that they had already found Vision and that Wanda was better, apparently all Cap's team were together, Tony with T'Challa and Wanda, but he was looking for Bucky, meanwhile you were all by yourself in the cold woods.
"Y/N report" Steve said.
"I'm still looking for them" you said taking a big breath.
"But, are you okay?" he asked you, still worried by the situation.
"Yeah, I'm fine, don't worry about it, how's everyone there?" you asked, you haven't heard Natasha in a while.
"We're fine, we hit a lot of pine trees, but Thor catched us before hitting the ground" Steve said with a chuckle.
"At least you're all together" you said.
"You'll find them" Steve told you, and in that moment all you wanted was to be with him, you have never felt so lost, even when you knew they were close from you, but you couldn't find the way back to them.
You were going to reply when you heard music in the distance, you knew that song, many people do know it, you thought it was Tony at first, but how could he be? his Iron Man suit is not a giant speaker, but how there was music into the woods? Was someone out there beside you all?
"Steve can you hear this?" you asked him
"What?" he asked confused.
"Life on Mars, David Bowie, please tell me is Tony" you said under your breathe while crossing the trees.
"I don't hear any music Y/N, and is not me for sure dear" you heard Tony's voice in the other side.
After that you couldn't listen the other in the comms, you guess it was just because they stopped talking. You kept walking in the snow and you tried to be silent, and then you heard it, branches breaking, birds flying, someone was running.
You focused all you had so you closed your eyes to focus, you were trying to guess where the noises were coming from, and so you didn't saw when everything changed, all the trees changed, you weren't in the snow anymore, you were standing in dead leaves, when you detected the sound you opened your eyes again and you were more than confused.
"The hell is happening" you said under your breath, you were petrified in the place looking at the sight infront of you.
And then you saw a child running in front of you, crying.
"Hey!" you shouted behind the kid, but she didn't listened, she kept running, so you ran behind her.
"Hey! Child! stop!" you shouted but this kid was kind of deaf, still you kept running behind her
"Hey! I'm not going to hurt you" you shouted once more but you stopped when she didn't listened to you.
The music eventually faded just to be replaced by more noises, people running towards you, gunshots, you turned around and you saw many man dressed all in black with guns in their hands.
"Fuck" you said before running for the girl once again.
You reached the girl and when you tried to take her, your hand just passed through her like a ghost. You stopped running and you saw how she kept on running for her dear life, you couldn't comprehend anything, you were frozen in place, until you heard a gunshot and then you felt pain in your left leg, you screamed, you placed a hand where the bullet went through and you heard the little girl scream, you looked at her and you saw her body on the floor, but she got up, looking at her bleeding leg, in the exact place as yours, in that moment you didn't feel pain anymore, you looked at your hand and you didn't found blood.
"What is this?" you asked yourself standing up and looking at the little girl and she saw you.
You saw the fear in her eyes, she was pleading with they, and someone made you turned around, a man with a black mask, you freaked out and the first instinct was to protect yourself and the kid, in that moment you felt your powers coming to life, so you started to fight. You felt he was wearing something with metal and you used it against him, you were angry, even pissed, you wanted to end everything now, the man in front of you was choking under your power, until you felt something sting your neck, you blinked and you saw that the one you were choking was T'Challa, you gasped and he fell to the snow and then everything turned black.
"Ich frage dich nicht und hör auf zu weinen!" the tall man with brown hair screamed at you. (I'm not asking you, and stop crying)
You were in a big room covered with mirrors, there were few lights blinking and the other completely dead. The floor and some mirrors were covered in blood like your hands and feet. You body ached, badly, your felt your body burning inside, you have cuts everywhere, you could hardly breathe and you were more than tired.
You we're crying hard, your throat hurt and you knew your nose was red. You fell into the floor when the same man hit you with great force in your face. You stopped crying but you felt the blood running down your nose and mouth, you tried to clean it with your hand but it didn't stop.
"Letztes Mal! Mach es jetzt oder es wird schlimmsten sein!" the man didn't help you to get up, he was just screaming at you. (do it now or it will be worst)
You stumbled on the floor, but you quickly recovered, your tears were running down your face just like the blood, but you tried to stop crying.
"jetzt!" the man shouted once more, this time even louder and you closed your eyes.
"Ich will nicht, Sir." you hardly said. (I don't want to, Sir).
And again the hitted you, this time in your stomach, making you spit blood. You fell into the floor once more and he grabbed your hair when you didn't get up in less than a minute. You screamed and again you were crying.
"Schaue ihn an!" he told you, forcing your face to at the other kid. (Look at him)
"töte ihn!, oder vergiss deine Mutter" he shouted once more and he threw you into the floor again. (Kill him, or forget your mother)
You closed your eyes and held your breath. You felt the power running in your veins, the force under your feet, even in the wind and you heard the screams of the other kid, you didn't knew what was you doing, it you could sense the pain in the little kid.
"Schaue ihn an!" the man forced you eyes to open. (Look at him)
And you screamed when you saw the kid getting murdered by you, covered in blood, full of daggers made by you, blood coming out of his body, the electricity on his eyes, dying in matter of seconds, but they were looking at you.
“Y/N! Stop screaming it’s me!” you heard as an echo in your nightmare.
“Y/N! It’s just a dream! Wake up! your safe!” you heard once more, a voice calling you.
“Y/N!” You finally opened you eyes.
You screamed, you cried you gasped for air, you felt your lungs burning, and the power running in your veins trying to escape.
"Bruce! the medicine now!" Tony screamed trying to hold you by your shoulders.
But all you could see was the face of the kid, you were shaking, You were awake but you still saw the nightmare. Then a sting in your left leg, and you stopped everything. You heard multiple things falling into the floor and again you gasp for air.
"You okay Y/N, you okay" Tony said sitting next to you.
You looked around, you was on the Quinjet with Tony, Bruce, Wanda, T'Challa and Vision.
"What happened?" you heard Tony asked.
"I don't know I saw someone into the woods" you saw, but your eyes weren't focusing in Tony.
"Y/N, what did you saw?" Tony asked again
"I'm not sure" you replied to Tony.
"Y/N, stop hiding things from me" Tony said with hurt in his voice.
"So you stop too. This things are not only nightmares, and you know that" you told Tony, your eyes finally focusing on him.
Tony lookead at you and then at the ground, he covered his face with his hands.
"Tell me the truth Tony" you said once more and Tony looked at you with tears on his eyes.

100 Days of Comics! 033/100: The Avengers #24.1 (2012)
Today’s rummage in the box of 100 random comics brings me something more in my usual wheelhouse! Avengers! Robo-angst! What the heckle does .1 mean though?
From what I could find, it was either intended to create a jumping on point for new readers or represents Uatu’s fugue state that occurs every three years for 42 minutes.
Comics are weird.
So anyway. A long time ago around or about Avengers #500 the title was hemorrhaging readers due to the lackluster to completely shitty follow-ups to the Kurt Busiek run. I’ll single out Chuck Austen and then shake a fist at the sky. Brian Michael Bendis was brought onto the book and told to shake things up.
He did this by killing off a bunch of characters (including Ant-Man, Hawkeye, and the Vision), almost completely rendering the Scarlet Witch a radioactive character, having the team disbanded and the book cancelled. Good job, Bendis, you saved the Avengers forever!
Well. Okay. The book is restarted in New Avengers which did see a major uptick in readers, possibly due to fan favorites like Wolverine, Daredevil and Spider-Man on the team or possibly due to Bendis’ writing style still being fresh at the time.
Eightish years later publishing time (and who knows how long in-universe?) Vision finally finishes repairing himself. Its one of the perks of being a synthezoid. It takes some doing to kill you dead forever.
Vision just wants to know why this happened. Why She-Hulk tore him in half.
Oh god they left Tony to be the one to tell him the bad news. This is a terrible idea. But he’s the only one around so he tells Vision that She-Hulk was being manipulated by Vision’s wife Wanda, the Scarlet Witch.
And then he has to fill Vision in on whats gone on. That Wanda went crazy, forced the Avengers to disband, that she decimated the mutant population. And that, well, they don’t even know where she is anymore. And they don’t know what to do about her even if they find her.
Kill her? Arrest her? Prove beyond a reasonable doubt that she magically wiped away a population?
We cut to Vision confronting She-Hulk as she’s lifting buses for a PSA on eating healthy and exercising. She jumps over to talk to him. And she’s clearly still upset about what she was made to do to him. She tells him that if he’s here to fight, she won’t fight back.
But he tells her that he holds no grudge against her. And that he has to find his way in this new world now.
And she gives him a hug. She asks him not to blame Wanda on account of having a fucked up childhood. Y’know, Magneto was her dad maybe depending on the day.
So Vision goes to Utopia, the island nation that Cyclops established for mutants because an island nation for mutants NEVER goes awry. He confronts Magneto and demands to know where Wanda is.
Magneto tells him off so Vision sticks his arm into Magneto’s chest and grabs his heart and demands to know again. But Magneto doesn’t know. Why would he know? Wanda hates him, probably most of all. Also, she’s a grown ass woman and she makes her own choices and she’s responsible for own choices (-shrug-). Also also, if he does rip out Magneto’s heart, the humans will never again trust him. And Vision does so love being human.
So he lets Magneto go and Magneto instantly magnets Vision and tells him he could destroy him. Worse, he could puppet him around and make him do horrible things that would forever destroy his name. But he won’t. Because maybe Vision is the only thing that could bring Wanda happiness wherever she is (getting engaged to marry Dr. Doom, if I remember correctly). But yo, you get out of line with me again robit and I’ll magnet you so hard.
Then he throws Vision off the island.
Later, the Avengers Mansion. There’s a crowd outside protesting because of course there is. Funny thing is that one of the protest signs says “What have you done for me lately?” and if that doesn’t perfectly sum up the Marvel public’s feelings towards their superheroes nothing does.
Anyway, Hawkeye and Spider-Woman are making out. I guess Hawkeye is alive in his terrible not-purple uniform. And Captain America is looking constipated as he waits for the Vision. But he’s happy that Hawkeye and Spider-Woman are dating.
Then Vision shows up and Cap yells at him for going to Utopia and picking a fight with Magneto. Vision says that he’ll leave the team if Cap says its in the Avengers’ best interests but Cap stops him there.
See. Cap knows what Vision is going through. No, really.
“You don’t think that I know what it feels like to wake up in a world you don’t understand anymore? Listen to me, my old friend... This is the best, truest advice I can give you... There’s nothing back there for you now. For people like us -- everything is that way -- forward. You need to look forward.”
And Vision falls to his knees in front of a statue of the founding Avengers plus Cap. Probably feeling a lot of feelings.
Although considering that Avengers vs X-Men was looming right on the horizon, there wasn’t much to look forward to.
I still don’t completely get why this had to be a .1 issue but I did like it. Vision is one of my favorites because of his robo-angst and there is a lot of robo-feels in this issue. From quietly asking why this happened to him to feverishly trying to find Wanda. Although when she does pop back up after Children’s Crusade, their reunion does not go well and you will believe that even an android can cry, again.
I feel that an issue like this was necessary upon bringing the Vision back. Given the circumstances of his death, he needed this focus. He was such a mainstay of the Avengers. Its a shame that since Disassembled, he’s kind of lost that status.
And then he tries to have a family of his own and that descends into a nightmare of murder and hate. Vision just can’t catch a frickin’ break.
#100 Days of Comics!#Avengers#the Vision#the unluckiest robot of them all#the X Men just hang back while Vision and Magneto beat each other up#'its family stuff'#this is why nobody likes you the x men

ARE THERE ANY THEMES YOU’RE UNCOMFORTABLE WRITING ON YOUR BLOG? (not triggers) No / Yes There’s a lot of common tropes that I find sexist or otherwise problematic. I understand this is just fiction for fun, I’m not trying to police what anyone else does or implying they believe in the messages that I get from these tropes (ex: if you just love a villain enough, you can redeem them!) but for me personally, I don’t like to write it, since what I enjoy about the fantasy aspect of RP is that I get to escape the tropes I dislike in mainstream media. I also am uncomfy with writing with muses who come from or are inspired by Christianity. This includes angels, Biblical characters, and Christian demons. I specify Christian demons because there are a great many demons in a great many works that have nothing to do with Christianity (Buffy, Marvel, and any number of Japanese anime, for instance) I am alright talking about it, like I was just recently talking with another mun about one of my muses being an angel in her own guardian angel verse for her muse, but I do not want to actually write these things in RP. I was raised Christian and it just feels weird to me, despite being an atheist now. I am just fine with figures from most other pantheons, however.
DO YOU HAVE ANY TRIGGERS? HOW DO YOU REQUEST IT TAGGED? No / Yes It’s not a trigger, actually, I don’t have panic attacks or anything, I’d just prefer to be able to block it on my dash---incest, rape, and animal death/animal cruelty. I don’t need any fancy/specific tags for it, just tag it with something relevant or tell me your custom tag, and I’ll block it myself.

WHAT TYPES OF RELATIONSHIPS ARE YOU OPEN TO? Romantic / Platonic / Familial (CANON) / Familial (OCS)
WHAT TYPES OF PRE-ESTABLISHED RELATIONSHIPS ARE YOU OPEN TO? Romantic / Platonic / Familial (CANON) / Familial (OCS)
DO YOU HAVE OTPS? No / chemistry only / Yes
DO YOU HAVE NOTPS? No / Yes Anne Marie and Magneto would be major NOPE NOPE NOPESVILLE for me. I realize that the “fanatically loyal female follower who is in love with the bad guy leader” is a super common trope in fiction (which is why it comes to my mind immediately for this question), but that’s NOT the case here. She sees him as a divine/religious figure, and her devotion is not sexual/romantic at all, it is purely about her desire to save mutantkind and the world from suffering, and her belief he will do that. Any kind of non-platonic dynamic between them would be dubcon (as she would not feel she could say no), inherently exploitative, AND SOMETHING SHE DOES NOT WANT. Besides the fact that’s NOT something I want to play, it’s not something I could ever see Magneto doing anyway.
WHAT IS YOUR MUSE’S SEXUAL ORIENTATION? Heterosexual (Fabian and Delgado) / Heteroflexible / Bisexual (Anne Marie, strong female preference)/ Homoflexible / Homosexual/ Pansexual / Demisexual / Sapiosexual / Asexual / Ambiguous (Chrome)
WHAT IS YOUR MUSE’S ROMANTIC ORIENTATION? Heteroromantic / Heteroflexible / Biromantic / Homoflexible/ Homoromantic / Panromantic / Demiromantic / Sapioromantic / Aromantic They all match their sexual orientation
ARE YOU COMFORTABLE WRITING SMUT? No / Selectively / Yes
HOW EARLY IN A RELATIONSHIP DO YOU SHIP ROMANTICALLY? Autoship / During Plotting / After A Couple IC Interactions / Several IC Interactions In / Slow Burn / Never {not open to romantic ships}
ARE YOU OPEN TO TOXIC SHIPS? No / SELECTIVELY / Yes / Never Tried It Anything with Fabian is going to be toxic tbh
ARE YOU OPEN TO PROBLEMATIC SHIPS? (canon history, age difference, complicated, etc.) No / SELECTIVELY / Yes *points to Fabian again* Darkshipping and the like is really not something I want or plan to do, but if something were to develop organically I might go with it. It really depends.
ARE YOU OPEN TO POLYSHIPPING? No / Selectively / Yes Anne Marie is fine with that. Chrome...has no opposition to it at all, but he doesn’t even want to deal with one person most of the time, let alone more than one. Delgado might agree to try it for a partner, but I’m not sure how comfy he’d really be with it. Fabian...Fabian wants a harem, as we all know, but of course how dare the girls not be totally all his :P Honestly, ships are super duper hard for this bunch, because they are devoted to the cause above all else. They are not just punch clock villains who see this simply as a job and can have a normal life outside it. It doesn’t work like that. Their relationships with people who are not Acolytes/Brotherhood/otherwise aligned with their cause are mostly going to be shallow, fleeting things, or tragically cut short/star-crossed. They simply cannot and will not be romantically involved, or often even friends with, someone who is not “one of them”. They do not ship with civilians/unaligned. They DEFINITELY do not ship with X-Men, Avengers, and other “heroes”. The exception to this is in AUs where they’re not Acolytes, so if you really want to ship (I’m not much of a shipper myself, but I’m open to discussing it) then an AU is your best bet.
ARE YOU AN EXCLUSIVE SHIPPER? No / Sometimes / Yes
DOES CRACK SHIPPING EVER HAPPEN? No / Yes
