What are your thoughts that The Book of Bill has references to Amphibia, The Owl House, Star Vs The Forces Of Evil, Wander Over Yonder but not Big City Greens despite that show being a Gravity Falls alumni show?

Personally it adds to my belief that Big City Greens is more of a Harvey Beaks/C.H. Greenblatt alumni driven series than a Alex Hirsch alumni series specially with the Big City Greens crew members taking the torch of the Gravity Falls crew for future Disney series.

Another proof for me is this cool merchandise crossover collaboration with Alex Hirsch, Dana Terrace and Matt Braly with Gravity Falls, Amphibia and The Owl House considered as "the big three"

I've recently seen again a post talking about the Sableye and Dusknoir's relationship so i'd like to put my two cents in the discussion, for I love screaming into the void about PMD. (this isnt meant to discourage any other interpretations btw this is just my take on theirs and Dusknoir's relationship, bc I think they're very fun characters and I am very glad the game actually gives these minions a bit of relevance in se5).

Tbh I don't buy that Dusknoir treats the Sableye nicely, at least not out of kindness. I don't think he's a tyrant or inexplicably mean, of course, and I think his minions ADORE him, but i also believe that doesn't mean he's nice to them, sth that i consider meaningful for their character arcs.

Throughout the entire game he's exclusively giving them orders, in se5 he concocts a plan that involves thrashing them MULTIPLE times (he's lucky Grovyle isn't one to try and kill enemies in battle ig), and the cherry on top is that the first time we see him being fully genuine he does this:

(yes, he is in turmoil in here, but there's not a single thing implying that 1. this is an unusual response towards the sablye, 2. dusknoir feels bad for it at some point or is surprised at himself, 3. this has any impact in the sableye at all. You can argue these reactions happen off screen and we don't see them, they don't happen bc they have pressing matters to attend to or they happen after they return to life, and that's perfectly valid, but i'm sticking with what the game shows us, here.)

I must say, though, the fact that the Sableye, despite having been almost mindless pokémon up to now, STAND UP TO AND ATTACK Primal Dialga for their boss and even try to look after him despite him ordering them to check on Grovyle and Celebi first is SO important to me. they are goons to the bone and they love that scheming ghost so much.

My own view is that Dusknoir is generally polite to them (you wouldn't randomly break your own revolver or weapon without any reason, would you?), but is quicker to get mean with them than with people he doesn't know or he is seeking to manipulate. He doesn't care about their behaviour as long as they get the job done, which is why I think the anime thing of the Sableye climbing onto his shoulder isn't that remarkable, rather it's a very cute moment, one that is showing how they've been working together for long and how their size difference affects their interactions, but it is not necessarily conveying an affectionate bond (this is a bit random, but it reminds me of Disney's Jafar with Iago lmao. throw your pet sableye at your enemies so they mock them and then return to your shoulder). Additionally, Dusknoir letting the Sableye onto his shoulder is probably as close as we are gonna get to a villain turning around in his chair while petting a cat in PMD lol.

[this isn't meant to be a one-to-one comparison, it's just a detail i find cute and shows that this gesture can have multiple interpretations, with none being the only right one]

Leaving that aside, I hesitate to claim Dusknoir trusts his Sableye as allies, as Grovyle makes a point in the main story of how the Sableye (your Sableye, he says, as if objectifying them; not friends, but tools, weapons at Dusknoir's disposal) are lacking compared to the way hero/partner/grovyle support one another (power of friendship and hidden information babyyyy). The Sableye are used to Dusknoir's way of doing things, though, I'm sure. They know what happens when he's displeased, after all.

I think, most of all, the Sableye are meant to look disposable: they are 6 identical pokémon that almost act like a hivemind, and we are not supposed to think at all about how we may hurt them in battle any more than we do with the angry Manectric pack or random dungeon pokémon. This, I believe, is why the game has them stand up against Dialga and gives them unique dialogue at the end of se5. They're meant to show their inner shine, just as Dusknoir managed to do. They suddenly gain an individuality they had never shown while they were working to maintain the dark future.

Where they abandoned Dusknoir in the Old Ruins, now Grovyle has motivated them to look for their dignity and fight for a better world, and that starts with protecting their leader from Primal Dialga's rampage, and supporting his new objective and allies in their quest to save the future. In their own small way, they've also grown as characters throughout SE5.

I believe that, overall, Dusknoir saw the Sableye as tools, but thanks to their growth and clear care for him, there's a possibility he might start to see them (and by extension other pokémon) in a more genuine, less pragmatic / objectifying way in the future. Now that Dusknoir has the chance to live a fulfilling life, he may learn to care for others without surrounding himself by so many walls. If anything, I think their future is quite bright. Not that the Sableye would mind if he still thrashed them around, though lol, they're clearly not bothered much by it (special episode 0 had a great depiction of the sableye imo, you can check that romhack if you haven't yet).

In conclusion, look at these little guys who adore their can-get-mean-but-is-mostly-polite boss and probably have a body count but now are good, they're so cute:

Talking about the witch again because I love her

The Witch makes for a wonderful parrell to John and his goal of becoming human and I dont think its talked about enough

The Witch points out in her episode that John has this very hopeful and idealised view of humanity. Its where the Witch makes for a gorgeous parallel to him for where he has seen what he deems the best humanity has to offer. the Witch has seen and experienced the worst. While John has through Arthurs eyes seen some of the terrible things that humans can do ie Larson or The Butcher. John has never actually experienced this having only been able to watch (this is also an interesting point for Johns lack of autonomy and how it affects his worldview). Plus the horrors always are there doing something worse compared to humans.

The Witch also has a point when she says that his act was no sacrifice, while we the listener knows that John and The King are different John did introduce himself to her as The King. For all The Witch knows he did nothing and claims it to be an act of self sacrifice.

The Witch does not view humanity highly and has no desire to be part of it due to her considerable trauma at the hands of humans, so when she attempts John from Arthur she belives herself doing the King as John claims to be a favour. Since logically he should be able to return to his kingdom once he is no longer attached to the mortal. This is logical to her because she doesnt know that he is a fractured part of The King.

The both of them are opposites of the same coin. One is an entity trying to become human and the other a human trying to be anything but. Both try to change the others mind trying to save the other in their own way.

I love that Arabelle mechanically wasted a spell slot just to tell Clayton that she was having Mac and cheese for dinner and also that she missed his house and kinda sorta maybe him as well. I also love that Clayton’s immediate response was just “DID YOU JUST CAST SENDING!?” In such an “excited and confused and VERY proud” dad voice. I love them.

In other news a new Disney Channel pin was given to D23 attendees at the Disney Channel Wand ID that showcases a potential new logo?

Many fans are speculating that a Disney Channel rebrand with these being a brand new logo who could be this one...... i don't think so tho.

I think it’s cute if lemongrab can go to wizard city, like the wall lets him in and he's never thought about it before or questioned it, but he doesn’t really exactly grok that he’s A Wizard

I think mayhaps that Batman should exclusively be a member of the Justice League Dark. He doesn't really like working with people but also sometimes John Constantine is like "You know Batsy, If you help me save the world by proxy it saves Gotham" So he does begrudgingly. But only sometimes when they need help with some things because he's like a very good detective and sometimes you need that! But also mostly I just want the rest of the Justice League to not believe that The Batman is real??

There's an issue that they need dealt with and they think it's a demon so they call Constantine and he's like "nah mate, this is just weird ritualistic sacrifices, I got a call to B-man on this one"

And Superman is like "haha The Batman isn't real... Right?" And then they meet him and he is very much real.

And Diana is all like "Oh Clark you silly, obviously The Batman is real" But internally she's like "holy shit The Batman is real???"

Green Arrow still doesn't believe it because he keeps missing any mission that The Batman happens to go on and he's like "If The Batman was real my best friend Brucie Wayne would have told me so. Brucey said that the Batman is just a scare tactic created by the Gotham Police department" So he's pretty sure that the rest of the Justice League is just playing a long practical joke against him specifically

It always breaks my heart a little to watch one half of a couple patch the other half up after a fight- in this case, after an attack of manhunting muffaloes.

Poor Vasso probably finds it incredibly taxing to care for his childhood best friend-turned-husband, but it doesn't stop him from doing an excellent job— he even remembered to kiss it better!

I've also decided that, while he's wearing winter gear, I'm going to indulge myself and draw Vasso with his hair out.

Oh, and Blackdragon lost his right leg to the muffaloes, too. No biggie, Euclid had a prosthetic made for him faster than you can say "If I had a dollar for every time one of my colonists has lost a leg in this run..."

Disney Channel finally introduces its new rebrand and logo ditching the "icon era" from 2019 and logo from 2014.

The rebrand was teased in October and late November 2024. The new brandings keeps the traditional Mickey ears as part of the overall desing for the graphics.
