Introductions: I’m Est, a magician. I teach at a guild called Magia Seminar. All my students are very hardworking and energetic though sometimes they fight… actually, quite often; but they do get along very well. Well, this is more of an introduction to my students than to me.

MC first impressions: Even now, when I think about it, I feel apologetic… I involved her in a fight between the students, and got her soaking as a result. She didn’t get angry, and I thought she was a very kind girl. She has a strong sense of responsibility and is quite enthusiastic. What worries me a little is how she seems to prioritise others over herself.

Givre first impressions: Fufu, the one student I can’t take my eyes off… I guess that’s how it is with him. Since I don’t have any siblings myself, I cannot quite grasp the depth of Givre’s feelings for MC… However, I do in part understand. I want to help him become a good older brother.

Meister you’re close with: Uhmm… although now I’ve been interacting with other Meisters a bit more, before the establishment of Magia Seminar I wasn’t very active (TN: He was on hiatus as a Meister I suppose)… so there is no one in particular I can point out. For now… that is.

Kai

Introductions: I’m Kai, a member of the magic guild Magia Seminar and a magical doctor! If you’re worried about your health, come to me anytime… Hah? I told you, I’m not a delinquent but a doctor!!

MC first impressions: A kind nee-san/older sister, I guess. Thinking back, I ended up frequently showing her a lot of my ugly sides over time… ahah. Both when we first met, and even now. She has a crazy amount of guts and always does her best to help other people. ‘S what I for real respect of her a lot.

Oboro first impressions: Oboro, huh? He’s a very knowledgeable guy. The way he says things is so fucking annoying, but he can teach you a lot of things. He keeps saying he’s physically weak but… one of my goals is to someday make Oboro perfectly healthy.

Meister you’re close with: My guildmate, Gui! …HAH? You’re sayin the other guy, Sion? That compound-fracture personality fella (TN: he literally uses the term 複雑骨折 which means compund fracture lol; he just means complex tho) is always looking for a fight. You just watch, I’ll definitely beat him by scoring higher than him in our next exam…!

Sion

Introductions: I’m Sion, a light magician from the magic guild, Magia Seminar. If you have any job requests, please contact the federation first. I will fulfil the request at the best of my abilities.

MC first impressions: I don’t really want to think of the first time we met, but… let’s see. She tried to sincerely face me even though I was acting weirdly edgy. Whenever I’m with her, I weirdly end up saying everything… I remember feeling very confused about this.

Mateo first impressions: Although he looks like a tough one on the outside, on the inside he’s like a small child. I know he’s trying his best to help out, but there are times when it’s a bit too much and it becomes a problem. You can’t take your eyes off him, for that.

Meister you’re close with: It’s Gui. What? The other student? …Kai, huh. We don’t get along well, and he keeps messing with me. Stop treating us like we come in a set.

Gui

Introductions: I’m Gui, a magic tool-maker belonging to the magic guild, Magia Seminar… Uhm… can you hear me properly? … Thank goodness. People say that I have a weak presence so… I was worried that maybe you couldn’t even see me right now…

MC first impressions: I thought she was a very capable guild keeper… since she started helping out, Professor Est seems to have received a huge helping hand as well. She listens to what I have to say with a big smile on her face… and she’s so cute——AHHH, please pretend you didn’t hear that just now…

Platinum first impressions: P-platinum-san… I was a little scared at the pressure… I really appreciate it when people praise me, but… the way he perceives things, or rather, the way he thinks, is different from mine… however, I’m glad he’s interested in magic tools. With Platinum-san, I will surely make good magic tools… well, that’s what I think of it…

Meister you’re close with: Fufu. Of course, I spend a lot of time with Kai and Sion from my same guild; I think we’re good friends! …Also, uhh… I have some interactions with people from the Mechanics Guild. Il seminatore di stelle.

“Non demoralizzatevi e continuate a seminare le stelle, anche se apparentemente non si vedono”.*

Questa è una statua della città di Kaunas, in Lituania, che rappresenta un uomo che semina con alle spalle un muro su cui sono state disegnate delle stelle.

Durante il giorno appare così, ma la magia si rivela dalla sera.

Infatti dopo il tramonto, risulta lampante il motivo per cui la statua è chiamata "Seminatore di Stelle". Mentre il sole lentamente scompare all'orizzonte, i lampioni si accendono creando questa magica illusione.

L'artista delle stelle si chiama Morfai.

This is a statue from the city of Kaunas, Lithuania, which represents a man sowing seeds with a wall behind him on which stars have been drawn.

During the day it appears like this, but the magic is revealed in the evening.

Arcane: Benvenuti nel mondo di League of Legends

Arcane, la serie animata Netflix ispirata al videogioco League of Legends, la prima stagione è disponibile sul catalogo Netflix mentre per la seconda ci tocca attendere Novembre 2024.

Arcane: Jinx in una scena della serie

Stupore, curiosità, soddisfazione. Con queste tre sensazioni nel cuore che vi inzio a parlare di Arcane la serie basata sul videogioco League of Legends e disponibile su Netflix. Ma vediamo nell'ordine queste sensazioni: stupore per quello che abbiamo potuto guardare, o dovremmo dire ammirare, curiosità di come proseguirà la storia; soddisfazione per un adattamento che appariva molto complesso, data la natura del gioco da cui si partiva che ha iniziato il suo cammino nel 2009 (la serie è stata annunciata proprio in occasione del decimo anniversario del gioco), e risulta accessibile anche a chi ne è a digiuno.

Storia di due città

Arcane: Vi e Jinx in una immagine della serie

Partiamo dall'ultimo punto e dalla capacità di Arcane di immergere chiunque, che sia o meno addentro al mondo di League of Legends, in un'ambientazione che accoglie lo spettatore e si rivela poco a poco, di scena in scena, ma intriga e conquista sin dalle primissime battute con la sua atmosfera e ricchezza. È infatti immediatamente palese la profondità dell'ambientazione in cui ci stiamo immergendo, oltre che la consapevolezza che gli autori hanno di essa. Siamo nel mondo di Runeterra, ma Arcane concentra la sua attenzione su una piccola regione che si mantiene in delicato equilibrio tra la città ricca di Piltover e lo squallore di Zaun, una tensione che monta e rischia di esplodere: se da una parte emerge una nuova tecnologia chiamata Hextech che rende democratica, e pericolosa, la magia, dall'altra a Zaun una nuova droga trasforma gli esseri umani in mostri.

I Campioni di Arcane

Arcane: Sorelle in azione in una scena della serie

Una tensione e rivalità che è terreno fertile in cui seminare spunti da sviluppare nell'arco dei nove episodi della prima stagione, ma anche personaggi in grado di coinvolgere emotivamente lo spettatore con le proprie personalità e imprese. Personaggi in gran parte mutuati dai Campioni di League of Legends, consolidati e già popolari presso il pubblico del gioco, ma di immediato impatto anche per chi li incontrerà per la prima volta in Arcane. Pensiamo a Vi, a cui dà voce Hailee Steinfeld, che colpisce subito per il suo look dai capelli rosa, ma intriga per l'evoluzione che sembra promettere a partire dal suo ruolo come piccola criminale di Zaun; sul fronte opposto in Piltover troviamo un'altra figura di spicco come Jayce, doppiato in originale da Kevin Alejandro, con un ruolo importante nell'invenzione dell'Hextech.

Arcane: Vi e Jinx con Vander in una scena della serie

Ma la lista è lunga e il cast di Campioni di Arcane è corposa, da Jinx, sorella di Vi, a Caitlyn Kiramman, da Mel Medarda al possente Vander, Viktor e uno Yordie come Heimerdinger. Un insieme di personaggi che si presenta con un character design e una resa su schermo di evidente valore e cura, ma che assicura varietà di situazioni e ricchezza di storie da poter raccontare, non solo in questi nove episodi della prima stagione ma anche per eventuali sviluppi futuri che ci sembrano molto probabili.

Riot Games, tra grandezza e ambizione

Se parliamo di futuro è perché tale ci sembra la grandezza, cura e attenzione posta nei primi episodi di Arcane e questi primi passi animati di League of Legends da farci pensare a un'ambizione da proiettare sulla lunga distanza, per dare alla controparte animata del videogioco una longevità e portata di pari importanza. Arcane non è un adattamento fine a se stesso, non è una mera trasposizione pensata per sfruttare un brand popolare senza aggiungere molto al materiale di partenza, ma una serie che ha la volontà e l'ambizione di sfruttare quell'ampiezza contenutistica in termini di ambientazione e personaggi per costruire qualcosa di indipendente, sensato e profondo. Qualcosa che possa camminare sulle proprie gambe con una dignità autonoma e matura.

Una serie che colpisce nel segno

Arcane: una momento action della serie

E sono gambe robuste quanto agili. Possenti sia dal punto di vista artistico che tecnico, per una resa visiva di grandissimo impatto. Si resta a bocca aperta per tutto l'impianto della serie, dalle scelte cromatiche alle scenografie curatissime e l'attenzione per i dettagli, ma ci si lascia trasportare da una messa in scena solida e dinamica, fatta di inquadrature mai banali, funzionali al racconto ma dal valore aggiunto prezioso. Anche dal punto di vista puramente tecnico, Arcane è una gioia per gli occhi, con un'animazione fluida e travolgente che funziona sia nei momenti più action che quelli d'atmosfera, scelte di design originali e un validissimo supporto anche dal comparto audio in ogni aspetto, dal sonoro che rende vivo il mondo di Runaterra alle canzoni, a cominciare dall'opening firmata dagli Imagine Dragons e da tutta la soundtrack.

Conclusioni

In conclusione non potremmo essere più soddisfatti di Arcane, la serie ispirata al mondo di League of Legends di Riot Games, che poggia sulle solide basi del materiale di partenza per costruire qualcosa di autonomo e ugualmente forte, capace di coinvolgere anche chi è a digiuno del videogioco lanciato nel 2009. Ambientazione ricca, personaggi intriganti, un comparto tecnico da lasciare a bocca aperta e una messa in scena mai banale, che colpisce da subito e tiene incollato lo spettatore.

Perché ci piace👍🏻

Un’ambientazione ricca e consapevole di se stessa.

Personaggi intriganti dal punto di vista visivo che promettono profondità nello sviluppo narrativo.

Una messa in scena curata e mai banale, fatta di scelte d’impatto ma funzionali al racconto che viene veicolato.

Livello tecnico sorprendete, con animazioni fluide e una resa complessiva di alto livello.

Sorpresi da questa grande partecipazione e da un interesse così vivo a distanza di anni, abbiamo deciso di prorogare la visione gratuita per tutto il mese di dicembre.

L'augurio è che le parole raccolte nel documentario possano ancora essere d'ispirazione e contribuire a mantenere vivo quell' "anelito alla vita buona e alla nostalgia d'infinito" che alberga in ognuno di noi.

Forse, in un tempo dominato da rumori e tragedie, una delle vie più incisive e rivoluzionarie resta ancora quella indicata dai protagonisti di questo racconto: seminare bellezza, predisporsi alla cura e all'ascolto, assaporare i silenzi, cogliere l'unità nelle cose, coltivare la gratitudine, aprirsi alla magia dell'essere.

15 September 2023, Friday 13/100 Days of Productivity

Woke up late today after being out with my friend late last night, but I managed to get some work done still. I also managed to work through a TMJ flare up. Very proud of myself for being able to do that, since usually even if I want to I'm not able to do anything aside from nap. Being able to work with my condition like that is really important to me. Also, if anyone is wondering why most of my music suggestions aren't in English. I usually listen to songs in languages I don't know while I work so the lyrics don't distract me as much. I used to listen to things in Latin, but then I took 4 semesters of Latin so I know too much.

What I Accomplished Today: 🌸 Finished my Scandals & Conspiracy Theories lectures for the week 🌸 Read through another of the Senior Seminar readings for next week 🌸 Picked out clothes for both days of in-person classes next week

Meister you’re close with: Hmm, I don’t know. I don’t know if we really get along, but Volks always makes me behave. It’s like he’s always keeping an eye on me. It’s annoying, so I think I’ll seriously try to run away next time.

Introductions: I’m Adel, tailor for the royal warrant guild, Yume Tsumugi. I’ll tell you immediately: I only makes clothes for people I approve of. No matter how important their position or status. There are no exceptions.

MC first impressions: I was exasperated at the arrival of such a rookie. When she chose to speak, the content of her questions, everything was unpromising. Or so I thought— the speed at which she grows and her competitive spirit are not bad at all.

Jin first impressions: Jin, huh…. That one is so impatient there’s nothing to do about it. He quickly succumbs to his desires and indulges in as much pleasure as he can. At first, I thought he was knowledgable and with a good eye— though at least he has the good sense to be ashamed of himself. I’ll just have to wait and see how long he can keep up his self-control/abstinence.

Meister you’re close with: …unfortunately, there is no one up to such title. By the way, just to be on the safe side, if I you ever find me excessively praising the Meister named Merryrose, it’d be because of his powers, not because I truly mean it, alright? You better remember it.

Volks

Introductions: I'm Volks, a gems appraiser belonging to the royal warrant guild Yume Tsumugi. In addition to appraising gemstones, I’m also the guild leader and coordinate the royal family's activities. I look forward to working with you.

MC first impressions: I felt that she had the skills to be a winged guild keeper (TN: guild keepers have a wings shaped badge and Emma has it, idk if all guild keepers or only some of the best ones have it), and I was also drawn to that hidden charm of hers. I felt the need to make that brilliance shine even more beautifully by polishing it with my own hands. I got a little carried away.

Mel first impressions: I do not believe the time spent talking to Mel to be an unpleasant one. His knowledge and insight are remarkable, and above all, he is a diamond in the rough that is worth polishing. I plan to continue enjoying interacting with him in the future.

Meister you’re close with: I often eat meals together with Gastronomy’s Oscar, and we have a good relationship. I empathise with his greed in pursuit of fine cuisine. Whenever I entertain him, deciding on the menu is quite stressful.

Merryrose

MC first impressions: An interesting one. Her emotions are always showing on her face; she’ll react to everything. She’ll get mad if I play around too much with Adele, so I thought I’d found a new good person to tease, buuut… you never really know what’s going to happen in life.

Jester first impressions: Jester, huh… he’s so seriously out of his mind, it’s annoying. And what the hell do you mean by partner? (TN: The question asked is to talk about their “partner”, obv not in the romantic sense, aka the black fairies). He’s the one who decided to get attached to me on his own. He says there’s no shortage of unfortunate stories whenever he’s with me… tell a super happy story for once (?), dammit.

When you’d chosen him, amongst all the other meisters and fairies, Est had initially felt somewhat…pressured.

After all, it’s no hidden secret within Magia Seminar that he isn’t exactly the best of teachers. Proficient as he is with his magic, he has no doubts about his ability to protect you.

But to guide you? To answer whatever questions you had about this world? To be your tutor?

Est could only brace himself for your dismissal of him in the future.

Yet, to his skepticism, that day never comes and he doesn’t understand why.

He’s seen the way your features twist into an expression of confusion whenever he tries to explain something theoretical to you, the sigh that always escapes from your lips when he hands you supplementary readings for you to peruse, and how tired you always seem to be whenever you take a seat in one of his classes.

He wants to question you about your intentions, but he can never seem to find the right moment to ask you. The only times that the two of you are together, he can’t find it in himself to pop the question, especially when he’s how stressed you’ve looked from other matters.

So, because he still is a researcher, he observes.

He watches how you turn to him for any questions lingering in your mind, something thoughtful appearing in your eyes despite your difficulty with understanding the technical terms he uses. He comprehends, then, that the reason for why you studiously read the books he recommends is so that you can better understand his reasoning and lessons.

Once he’s collected enough data, all he can do is stare at the only conclusion he’s able to come to.

You rely on him. No, that isn’t right. You chose to rely on him, even if there are easier alternatives for you to choose from, and this sudden recognition of your efforts just to stay by his side fills his chest with something that bubbles warmly.

When you enter the library in search of him, you’re treated to a sight you’ve never seen before: Est, with a hand pressed right up against his forehead and his entire face blazing red.

“Here, this is for you. I know it doesn’t seem like much, but these are the notes I made when I was younger and magic had been new to me. I hope these will be able to help you.”

As both a student and a medical magic practitioner, Kai can acknowledge that he truly has too much on his plate right now.

So, when you chose him, a refusal was already forming at the tip of his tongue. And he would have, if he hadn’t seen the knowing look that Sion had sent him; from thereon, his pride was honestly the only reason that made him grudgingly accept the offer.

Initially, he’s sullen whenever he has to accompany you, a constant sour twist to the corner of his mouth, his thoughts constantly straying to what he could have been studying at that time or which patient would be dropping by in an hour.

But, regardless of how time-sensitive he feels, he sincerely devotes himself to the task of protecting and guiding you.

He always has his medical kit on his body in the case you get hurt, his magic a sporadic thing that lashes out at the sign of hostility from others, and he makes it a point to answer your questions to the best of his capability.

He can sympathize, after all, what it’s like to feel lost.

For him to warm up to you, all it takes is one realization. He’s of the assumption that you expect him to invest most of his attention on you, but when you break it out to him that you understand that he has other duties to attend to and that you don’t mind, the weight he’d been carrying on his shoulders lift.

From thereon, rather than having a thunderous rain cloud following your wake, it’s as if you’ve acquired an excitable puppy trailing after you.

In what little reprieve the two of you are able to afford, he drags you out for lunch, visiting businesses owned by his former patients who are all too happy to have him there. Sometimes, when you find yourself free and waiting for him, he lets you into his infirmary where you’re able to see him at work, the energy constantly buzzing beneath his skin turning into a calm hum as he treats his patients kindly.

He’s aware that he’s showing a foreign side of him to you, but he doesn’t particularly mind it. Still, it does make him wonder just what made you decide to choose him out of everyone, because he can concede that he’s neither the strongest nor the smartest.

When he asks you, he doesn’t bother beating around the bush. He looks you straight in the eye, his cheek pressing against the back of his hand, and looking for the all the world like the question doesn’t have a grasp on his heart right now.

But when you give him a genuine answer, you’re treated to the sight of his composure fracturing, a flush riding high on his cheeks that he tries to cover with his hand, his gaze meeting everything but yours.

“Oi, come here…Are you serious? Look, I won’t bite, so just come closer. Your neck’s been hurting right? I know a thing or two about massages, so let me give it a try.”

To put it plainly, Sion doesn’t really care whether or not he gets chosen by you.

Because in the end, whichever route you go with, you’ll eventually find out that not only is he incompetent to his own lineage but also opposed to the very magic that flows through his veins. A combination that, truly, you’ll most likely want to distance yourself from.

Yet, your gaze turns to him, something clicking into place in the space between the two of you, and Sion doesn’t even bother hiding his glower when he realizes just what this means—just a prolonged denial for the inevitable.

He keeps his distance from you, for both of your sakes, but he’s bound by duty to return to your side whenever you need it the most, be it for protection or guidance. He keeps his words curt and clipped, his tone uninterested and cold, and he can very well see the bewilderment on your face as to why you’re being treated in this way despite having only just met him.

He expects you to talk to him about this being a mistake, about him being the mistake, as is always the case, but that never happens. Instead, whenever he tries to scurry away from you after helping you with a task, you persistently dog his steps, sticking close to him just to keep the conversation going.

Sooner or later, your interactions begin to look less like a master calling for their pet and more like a cat chasing after a mouse. Sion will swear up and down that it isn’t true, because if it were the case, then wouldn’t that make him the mouse in this situation…?

Things come to a deadlock when you finally figure out his best hiding spot.

It’s a quaint area that used to be a side courtyard for the guild that has been now abandoned due to the fact that mostly everyone stays inside the libraries to study. Sion goes there often for the sake of it being a quiet place. And, as you soon come to learn, for the kittens play there.

The two of you stare at one another for a good long while, stunned, but the moment is broken when the little animal in Sion’s hands paws him in the face, meowing for more kisses on its tiny head.

Sion looks ready to bolt, completely horrified, but it takes you sitting down beside him and taking another kitten into your lap and playing with the little guy for him to calm down, a suspicious eye trained onto you.

It’s probably because this is the longest time that the two of you have spent time together than you tell him, keeping your gaze carefully trained a kitten, your reasons for choosing him.

He listens and, at the end of it, he doesn’t say a word. You worry that you might have been too impatient with him when he leaves, but the next morning, instead of having to initiate another one of your games of hide-and-seek, you find him waiting for you at the entrance of the guild.

“...I’ll only say this once, but—If you don’t mind having me, then I’ll do my best to take care of you and erase any of your worries.”

At first, Gui thinks that you’ve made a mistake. Surely, you didn’t just call out his name? Or had you perhaps mistaken him for another meister?

But no, it’s not a mistake, because you’re looking straight at him, truly at him and not through him, with a smile on your face that’s gradually becoming more awkward, hand stretching out towards him for the taking.

It’s a clumsy first meeting, one that he’ll later on learn will be the general description for his relationship with you.

Because that’s technically what it is. No, scratch that, that’s what he is whenever you’re around, which is almost all the time.

For some convoluted and omnipresent reason, it’s as if whatever he’s holding suddenly turns into butter the minute you take a peek over his shoulder and ask what he’s working on, your face so close to his that he could feel practically every breath you exhale against the side of his neck.

It’s led to a couple of accidents within the guild that always lands him a scolding in the hallway, curious onlookers trying their best to listen in as they slowly walk by.

He would ask you to stop visiting him during his tinkering hours, but it feels wrong for him to do so.

He knows that it really isn’t your fault, even if you are the catalyst. It’s more of a him problem, really, so he lets you drop by whenever you want with a promise extracted from you that you’ll at least try and get his attention first from a distance.

Besides, despite the consequences, it feels…nice. To be appreciated like this. For him and his efforts to be seen.

It’s this sudden awareness of why he feels so happy lately, why he’s so reluctant to spend less time with you, that makes him wonder—just what had piqued your interest in him? So much so that you chose him out of the other meisters?

It takes time for him to gather the courage to raise the question to you, but he does so eventually because quitting is one thing unfamiliar to him. He keeps his eyes on his latest invention, trying his best to ignore the anxious fluttering in his gut.
