Musgum Mud Huts: Traditional Architecture of the Musgum People in Cameroon
The Musgum mud huts, also known as Musgum dwelling units, stand as a testament to the traditional architectural ingenuity of the Musgum people in the Maga sub-division, Mayo-Danay division, Far North Province of Cameroon. These iconic structures are crafted from sun-dried mud, meticulously compressed to form sturdy walls that are then layered over a framework of lashed reeds. Despite their…

The Musgum, Huts and Granaries of Family Farm Homestead, Chad, 1940s. Musgum mud huts or Musgum dwelling units are traditional domestic structures built of mud by the ethnic Musgum people in the Maga sub-division, Mayo-Danay division, Far North Province in Cameroon. The dwellings were built in a variety of shapes, such as tall domed or conical dwellings or huts, some with a reverse-V shape, and others with geometric designs. Musgums are an example of earth structures. Of simple design, they are constructed of mud, thatch, and water by local residents using few tools. Resembling the shape of beehives or shells, they are also known as "cases obus". They are adobe structures, a variant of cob, and are in the catenary arch form, which can bear maximum weight with the minimum use of building materials. The dwellings also are described as "beehive type" because of their dome shape. They are considered to be an important architectural style of Cameroon, although not in fashion in the present day. https://www.instagram.com/p/CFFpuW0AJU8/?igshid=1jps22umoonjk

First of all, I hope that everyone had a Merry Christmas and is safe and well. This will be a rather long post but have a LOT to get off my chest and it feels great to finally be able to share it and among so many like minded people. As a 20 something Black man AKA a milleninal that lives in a liberal hell hole like Boston, Massachusetts, I was raised my entire life with an anti-White mindset and to be as liberal as possible. Fortunately, my core as a person never truly lined up with those ideals and as such I grew up "weird" and "acting White" for showing any form of intelligence and work ethic by the majority of Blacks and White libs AKA cucks and betas.Long story short, despite that I conformed to a lot of liberal and "Black policies" just because I thought I had to despite being annoyed at much of it and not truly agreeing with it. Thanks to Trump's presidency run and the nonsense the liberals were spouting, I had finally had enough of them and completely embraced that I was team MAGA. I had seen enough of the lack of logic and double standards that were being used and just never sat right with me even as a child.I've never felt freer, happier and prouder to be an American than ever before after no longer allowing myself to conform to the self-destructive ways of liberals. I can't believe that liberals and most Blacks tried to get me to believe that it was okay to blame Whites for being White, that I was oppressed and a victim, that loving your country and showing patriotism is bad, that Women being women is bad while men lying to themselves about being women was good and just being as anti-American for the country and everyone as it gets. They whine about everything, are self-righteous and are as hypocritical as it gets. Many turned on me just because I disagreed with them on principle even when I didn't attack them or force my views on them. Then they made things about race and tried to dictate how I should feel and see, threw out endless personal attacks despite me doing nothing to them and then saying they couldn't be my friend or associate anymore. Funny how they're supposed to be the tolerant, open minded, non-racist, respecting people types they preach about being and why they're better than conservatives yet it goes out the window when people don't conform.Due to this, I absolutely despise liberals with their delusional emotionally based reasoning (which is phony) and them being the opposite of logic, facts and reality. It's this mindset that they have used to brainwash Blacks for their own ends and are the ACTUAL people oppressing them and that thinks lowly of them. The Democrats were pro slavery and founded the KKK after all. As I see it, Blacks are no longer physically enslaved but they're mentally enslaved by the liberals sick and twisted game as nothing more than mere pawns.Meanwhile, conservatives welcome me with open arms despite me not going out of my way to appeal to them. I just simply shared we had similar views and immediately they were some of the kindest people ever despite Libs claiming they're opposite of that and hate me just because I'm Black. It's great to be among people with the shared mindset of hard work, proper values, success, being America first and WINNING. The opposite of what Libs are. After that, it hit me that Libs don't deserve respect as they have none and are also an easy group to troll. Seeing all that I'm GLAD this reddit exists since there's NOTHING better than Americans actually caring about their country that at the same time triggers Libs and cucks. It's hilarious how there's so many libs coming to a sub just to pointlessly hurt their own feelings and be ultimately powerless to stop or change anything. Love how the mods here have a field day blasting the cucks with facts and reality as well lol.I will say that, I wish that I had gone to a Trump rally but I was not as confident and comfortable about being out there with my pro MAGA views back then. It didn't completely hit until half way of this year that I was 100% on the MAGA train and not getting off as well as already losing a number of so called friends over it. Hopefully Trump runs again in 2020 because if he does I will most certainly be at as many as I can. Did anyone here go to any of them? I would love to hear people's experiences going to rallies to help me realize what I missed out on since I know I would have made a lot of great friends going to one. Some news that is very comforting to me is that I've noticed that a lot of libs have been on edge as they do their own research and get tired of the extremism that the left indulges in. They're exposing themselves, falling apart and losing their influence which is a glorious thing to witness. I've also realized how conservative gen Z seems to be. I want that wall built, ALL of the illegals deported and to continue standing strong against out of control third world immigration and Islamic practices that do NOT line up with civilized societies. That's what happens when you push too much as people start to push back. The best part about it is all the whining the powerless libs and cucks will be doing to our amusement over it all.MAGA for life.EDIT:Wow, I did not expect to have the ENORMOUS response that I have gotten from this post. I figured no more than maybe 20 people would chime in and that this post would get buried within minutes never to be seen again. I have one of the most upvoted and active posts here and that's been the case not long after I made it, and it's been an absolutely mind blowing experience. Hundreds of you have chimed in to say nothing but positive and encouraging things save ONE individual that I dealt with and I'm moved beyond words at your overwhelming kindness. To me, I'm just some random guy sharing his life experiences and POV that should mean nothing to most but you've made me feel like my voice actually matters. I've tried to respond to every comment I could despite how many comments there are because it's the LEAST I can do to show my appreciation for the love you all have given me. Continue to comment or even private message me if you prefer and I will get to them as soon as I can.I can't thank you all enough for how amazing you've been and you all feel like family to me. A family I never knew I had until now and couldn't be happier to be apart of. Something I NEVER would have knew I had if not for Trump yet Libs say he creates division and brings out hatred in people. Not that Lib delusions will get them to acknowledge it, but the fine people of this thread are yet another nail in the coffin for such ridiculous claims having any merit. Next year if possible, I'll see if I can collect actual Liberal tears in a bottle and send them to Trump hahaha.I'm glad to hear so many of you had a Merry Christmas (a term Libs hate but I will NOT stop using) and I hope that you all have a VERY happy new year and am excited for yet another year of Trump being our president and making America great.Team MAGA always! via /r/The_Donald

Time to #WalkAway: The Exodus of Blacks and Free Thinkers from the Democrat Party - PEER NEWS
New Post has been published on https://citizentruth.org/time-to-walkaway-the-exodus-of-blacks-and-free-thinkers-from-the-democrat-party/
Time to #WalkAway: The Exodus of Blacks and Free Thinkers from the Democrat Party
African Americans and free thinkers are finally leaving the left in droves.
Candace Owens, director of Turning Point USA, has been the victim of vicious liberal attacks because she is a black woman who supports President Trump.
On a recent Fox News interview, she said, “I think the black vote is going to become the most relevant by 2020” and “we’re already seeing a major shift,” referring to the exodus of African Americans from the Democrat Party. The conversation is changing. The black voters of America are no longer remaining stuck in that victim mentality courtesy of the Democrats and are opening up to the choice they have between a party that holds them back and a party that was initiated to put a stop to slavery.
Digital media has allowed for all of this to happen. Social media has given everyday people and insightful influencers alike a voice. We no longer have to stay trapped in the fake reality that CNN and others portray to us. Today, we are hearing different voices and convincing ideas from all kinds of people. And because of this, people like Owens and Kanye West are speaking out about how the Democrats have betrayed them and left them behind in their pursuit of illegal immigration, uninspiring anti-Trumpism, and open borders.
“There is going to be a major black exit from the Democrat Party, and they are going to have to actually compete for their votes in 2020,” Owens stated.
youtube
Fox News’ Laura Ingraham had Brandon Straka on her show recently. Straka is the founder of the #WalkAway Campaign freeing disgusted Democrats to leave their party and join the winning side. He had a red pill experience in 2017 after the Donald was elected which was after he cried when Hillary Clinton lost two Novembers ago. And he decided to walk away from the Democrats because of their nasty rhetoric, incessant intolerance, name-calling and hypocritical judgment. Now, he’s not only worried about all that, but he also now fears outright violence from his former party.
“Their party has no future. It’s over,” Straka said. “People are leaving the left by tens of thousands.” He receives thousands of authentic testimonials from former Democrats regarding how the left has become intolerable to them. They don’t recognize their party anymore. What do they stand for? They hate Trump and love illegal immigrants. Anything else? Please email me or comment below and let me know!
“I want gay people, I want all people, but particularly minorities, in America to note that you have a choice. You don’t have to vote Democrat just because you’re a gay person. You don’t have to vote Democrat because you’re a black person. If you’re a minority, you have a choice, and that’s what this campaign’s about,” Straka finished.
youtube
Rob Smith is a black, gay former Democrat. He is also an author who has become one of the many strong voices online decrying what the left has become. He calls this the “I Don’t Have to be a Democrat Just Because I’m Black Movement,” which embraces traditional values as Democrats move farther left, defending illegal aliens while taking African Americans for granted and leaving them stranded in poverty and perpetual victimhood.
“There is a movement right now of black people standing up because we are always expected to be Democrats,” Smith said. “And there is a movement right now of younger black conservatives, which I am becoming a part of, that is saying, ‘No, you don’t define who we are, you don’t define how we think; you don’t get to control and own our voices.’” As I mentioned in an article in late April, free thinking is on the rise, and many African Americans are getting red pilled with Trump in the White House and Democrats becoming the party of MS-13 and illegal aliens.
Democrats are not looking to better America in any way. As they proved by their lack of patriotism over July 4th, they despise our country and would welcome a second civil war as they did the first one. Instead of devising a winning strategy and an optimistic message to counter Trump’s rising America First voting bloc, they are attempting to legalize a swath of illegal immigrants to ensure another reliable group of Democrat voters for decades to come, just like they did with African Americans in the second half of the 20th century.
The summer of 2018 has been inspirational in many ways. In the face of liberals melting down over every Trump win and Supreme Court nominee, we have also witnessed a rise of black influencers coming out of their closet of shame in support of Donald Trump. The Democrats’ stranglehold of blacks voting unanimously for their party of hate is finally coming to an end.
This has been a long time coming.
It all started in the spring with Kanye’s internet-breaking tweet stating that he loved the way Candace Owens thinks. In another tweet on April 25th, West said, “You don’t have to agree with Trump, but the mob can’t make me not love him. We are both dragon energy. He is my brother. I love everyone. I don’t agree with everything anyone does. That’s what makes us individuals. And we have the right to independent thought.” The color of your skin does not mean you have to vote for one party or another. We need to be a country of individuals and free thinkers. If we all do what’s best for ourselves and our families, we will all be better off for it. Black people are not owned by the Democrats. They are no longer slaves to their lies.
The Democrats keep pushing 'Resist" so that America will no longer "Exist" Don't Wait until Later; Do It Now#WalkAway #RunLikeHell #DitchandSwitchNow Vote Them All Out!

“I think there was a tripling in Trump’s approval rating when Kanye came out,” declared Ali Alexander, a 32-year-old political consultant born to an African-American mother and Arab father who saw the beginnings of this movement back in 2012 when the largest sub-demographic of blacks who voted for Romney were black men in their 20s and early 30s. According to a Pew Research exit poll, Romney achieved double-digits in the black vote against a black president. A cultural and demographic shift is underway that cannot be undone if the Democrats continue on their divisive path.
“So I knew that something bad was coming for the Democrats, and Kanye, I think, is the ball that’s bursting,” Alexander said. “It’s like, wait, when this economic pie is growing, are black people gonna have a piece of that? These demographics have been happening for decades.” To Alexander, West’s tweet was a wonderful moment that caused blacks to wonder what the welfare state does for them if they don’t plan to be on welfare. “And I think that Kanye dived on a grenade for the rest of the black community, to have them start flirting with the idea of that.”
While black unemployment is at an all-time low and jobs are available to anyone who wants to work, we are being barraged with how Trump is the new Hitler and a racist dictator who is in league with Russia. But how can Trump be a racist when he kisses black babies, and black women hug him and black men praise him for his pro-job policies? How can more and more blacks be coming around in support of Trump if he is a racist trying to keep minorities down?
Yep, #trump is a racist…. #LiberalSickness#LiberalLogic#MAGA #WalkAway #TrumpTrain pic.twitter.com/pzvLxxlhaU
— Tim Tim (@timnexis) July 9, 2018
“It has all been a lie,” said conservative black YouTuber “Uncle Hotep,” a father of two from Pennsylvania. “It’s unfortunate because a lot of us believed it blindly.” He points to the simple fact that each paycheck he gets is $100 higher than it was before the tax cut. Trump is helping not just African Americans, but all Americans. “He’s put money in my pocket.”
“I voted for Barack Obama his second term,” began conservative “Uncle Hotep,” who went on to say, “The Democrats, in my honest opinion, based on my research, I believe the Democrats have historically hated black people. And I think they still hate black people today.” It is historically accurate that Democrats defended slavery as long as possible and lamented integration of white and black society in the 1960s. They voted against not only women’s suffrage but also black citizenship. The Democrats in Congress were also mostly against the Civil Rights Act of 1964 despite the Kennedy administration’s push for it. The Republican Party was started in the mid-19th century to demolish slavery and defend individual rights for all Americans. Abraham Lincoln was the first Republican president, and he promised to free the slaves and even went to war against a slavery-loving south run by Democrats. Don’t let revisionist history fool you!
“Hotep Jesus” is a black conservative comedian and author who became an internet sensation when he went into a Starbucks and demanded a free cup of coffee, as “reparations” for slavery, since he “heard y’all was racist.” The clip is hilarious and so poignant for these politically correct times.
The African American Pastor Darrell Scott put it best during his 2016 Republican National Convention speech endorsing Trump when he said: “The truth is, the Democratic Party has failed us. America is a melting pot. We’re a country of diversity. And we stand poised to make history by standing together as Americans.” Diversity is our greatest strength not because we are all different but because we are all individuals who mostly love America and have the right to think and choose for ourselves.
As Owens recently told Fox, “I really do believe we are seeing the end of the Democratic Party as we know it.” I think there is ample evidence to prove this is surely the case.
Despite almost a month of continuous Trump is Hitler incarnate and our racist in chief coverage from the mainstream media following the separation of illegal immigrant children at the border, the president’s job approval rating has remained well above 43 percent, according to the Real Clear Politics average.
Prepare for another Trump landslide in 2020 my liberal friends.

Kanye West Focuses Larger-Than-Life Self Into "ye"
What's so good?
Kanye West has two problems. First, considering his 15 year run of amazing singles, albums, features, production credits, and fashion design, everything he makes is judged by the weight of what came before it. The Kanye West of "Through The Wire," his breakout single, is almost nowhere to found in the cultural zeitgeist Kanye West now emobides. West's other problem is more personal: his celebrity life pushes fans into the challenging posture of having to account for the artist's personal life in addition to often brilliant artwork.
In 2009 when West interrupted Taylor Swift he fell out of the spotlight only to return from with his masterpiece album My Beautiful Dark & Twisted Fantasy. 2010 & 2011 Kanye West, ready to tour Watch The Throne (a collaboration that was clearly his to control), was king again. This was a Kanye of spectacle, opulence, and majesty.
That’s two cycles West repeats with the release of his eighth album ye. It mirrors the pastiche of genre and spectacle that was The Life of Pablo's fashion shows, the laptop in Madison Square Garden, the endless tinkering of the TIDAL release that echoed the G.O.O.D. Friday singles leading up to MBDTF and then followed by the surprising abstract, minimal and brief Yeezus. That’s the obvious comparison between the two works: limited spectacle surrounding the release itself, the short play time (23 minutes), the sub-ten tracklist, sparse features, the way the work dramatically resists living in the shadow of its predecessor.
Unfortunately for ye and for West, there is another, much larger shadow the work must outshine. Earlier in 2018 West returned to Twitter, using the social media space as a sounding board to discuss politics, mental health, and at one point compose his philosophy book. Regardless of where your perspectives on American politics lie, you can tell West’s aligned himself with some divisive folks and some even more divisive ideologies. For example, when West raps about his TMZ interview where he alleges that slavery was a choice, it seems brash in only a way West can be that he would rap about that ridiculous claim on his album.
The key here is that Kanye raps on this album. All of ye was produced by West in his Wyoming retreat and the confounding result is a tightly focused and excellent 7 tracks from a public persona who is anything but tightly focused and entirely confounding. Politically, it seems difficult to separate West the artist from West’s persona.
Regardless, the album is excellent. It echoes the soul-chop production that first got West noticed by Jay Z and Rocafella Records during his come up. “No Mistakes” brings both a hook and a sample worthy of Late Registration. “All Mine” brings invective lyrics and a thumping bass riff that reimagines “Jesus Walks” if it were written during the Yeezus era. “Ghost Town” sonically is the closest to Pablo, boasting production from Francis & the Lights and a Kid Cudi feature teasing the forthcoming Kids See Ghosts. West’s wit lives in these songs, be that lines like “I love your titties ‘cause they prove I can focus on two things at once” or “Just imagine if they caught me on a crazy day”; West’s lightning-rod ethos dares reaction from lines that allude to the MAGA hat or bars like “Russell Simmons wanna pray for me too / I’ma pray for him ‘cause got #MeToo’d”. Musically, these songs are excellent despite the socio-cultural challenge they may present to listeners.
Perhaps the most essential moment of ye is its opening track, “I Thought About Killing You I Thought About Killing Myself” which echoes Jay Z’s “Kill Jay Z” from his equally confessional 4:44. “That’s my bipolar shit / that’s my superpower … ain’t no disability / I’m a superhero!” he yells, drawing attention to the album art which reads “I hate being Bi-Polar, its awesome” scrawled over a photo of rural Wyoming.
There seems to be a genuine attempt in ye to speak candidly, the way West’s social media and pop culture persona begs to be, albeit in ways that push boundaries of the First Amendment. If we take West at his word that he is struggling with these issues, and ye is a product of that struggle – and not a product of West’s most egregious cultural presence – ye is a masterpiece.
After nearly a dozen listens (I’m telling you, this thing is short) you almost forget the artist who made the art, which is an absurd premise because West is so deeply mythologized in this work. The context around the album is complicated, but so is the music. Perhaps this is a strength of the album. I’d say only time will tell, but I’m sure West will find some way to assert himself in the hours following his excellent eighth album’s release in the strange times West raps in.

The US-UK Deep State Empire Strikes Back: "It's Russia! Russia! Russia!"
youtube
Authored by James George Jatras via The Strategic Culture Foundation,
There’s no defense like a good offense.
For weeks the unfolding story in Washington has been how a cabal of conspirators in the heart of the American federal law enforcement and intelligence apparat colluded to ensure the election of Hillary Clinton and, when that failed, to undermine the nascent presidency of Donald Trump.
Agencies tainted by this corruption include not only the FBI and the Department of Justice (DOJ) but the Obama White House, the State Department, the NSA, and the CIA, plus their British sister organizations MI6 and GCHQ, possibly along with the British Foreign Office (with the involvement of former British ambassador to Russia Andrew Wood) and even Number 10 Downing Street.
Those implicated form a regular rogue’s gallery of the Deep State: Peter Strzok (formerly Chief of the FBI’s Counterespionage Section, then Deputy Assistant Director of the Counterintelligence Division; busy bee Strzok is implicated not only in exonerating Hillary from her email server crimes but initiating the Russiagate investigation in the first place, securing a FISA warrant using the dodgy “Steele Dossier,” and nailing erstwhile National Security Adviser General Mike Flynn on a bogus charge of “lying to the FBI”); Lisa Page (Strzok’s paramour and a DOJ lawyer formerly assigned to the all-star Democrat lineup on the Robert Mueller Russigate inquisition); former FBI Director James Comey, former Associate Deputy Attorney General Bruce Ohr, former Deputy FBI Director Andrew McCabe, and – let’s not forget – current Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, himself implicated by having signed at least one of the dubious FISA warrant requests. Finally, there’s reason to believe that former CIA Director John O. Brennan may have been the mastermind behind the whole operation.
Not to be overlooked is the possible implication of a pack of former Democratic administration officials, including former Attorney General Loretta Lynch, former National Security Adviser Susan Rice, and President Barack Obama himself, who according to text communications between Strzok and Page “wants to know everything we’re doing.” Also involved is the DNC, the Clinton campaign, and Clinton operatives Sidney Blumenthal and Cody Shearer – rendering the ignorance of Hillary herself totally implausible.
On the British side we have “former” (suuure . . . ) MI6 spook Christopher Steele, diplomat Wood, former GCHQ chief Robert Hannigan (who resigned a year ago under mysterious circumstances), and whoever they answered to in the Prime Minister’s office.
The growing sense of panic was palpable. Oh my – this is a curtain that just cannot be allowed to be pulled back!
What to do, what to do . . .
Ah, here’s the ticket – come out swinging against the main enemy. That’s not even Donald Trump. It’s Russia and Vladimir Putin. Russia! Russia! Russia!
Hence the unveiling of an indictment against 13 Russian citizens and three companies for alleged meddling in U.S. elections and various ancillary crimes.
For the sake of discussion, let’s assume all the allegations in the indictment are true, however unlikely that is to be the case. (While that would be the American legal rule for a complaint in a civil case, this is a criminal indictment, where there is supposedly a presumption of innocence. Rosenstein even mentioned that in his press conference, pretending not to notice that that presumption doesn’t apply to Russian Untermenschen – certainly not to Olympic athletes and really not to Russians at all, who are presumed guilty on “genetic” grounds.)
Based on the public announcement of the indictment by Rosenstein – who is effectively the Attorney General in place of the pro forma holder of that office, Jeff Sessions (R-Recused) – and on an initial examination of the indictment, and we can already draw a few conclusions:
Finally, “collusion” is dead! If Mueller and the anti-constitutional cabal had any hint that anyone on the Trump team cooperated with those indicted, they would have included it. They didn’t. That means that after months and months of “investigation” – or really, setting “perjury traps” and trying to nail people on unrelated accusations, like Paul Manafort’s alleged circumvention of lobbying and financial reporting laws – and wasting however many millions of dollars, Mueller and his merry band got nothing. Zip. Zilch. Bupkes. Nada. The fake charge that Trump colluded with the Russians is exposed as the fraud it always was.
And yet, “collusion” still lives! But while there is no actual allegation (much less evidence) that any American, much less anyone on the Trump team, “colluded” with the indicted Russians, the indictment makes it clear that Moscow sought to support Trump and disparage Hillary. Thus, Trump is guilty of being favored by Russia even if there was no actual cooperation. It’s a kind of zombie walking dead collusion, collusion by intent (of someone else) absent actual collusion. Its purpose in the indictment is to discredit Trump as a Russian puppet, albeit an unwitting one. The indictment says the Russian desperados supported Bernie Sanders and Jill Stein too – so they’re also Putin’s dupes.
Any and every Russian equals Putin. Incredibly, nothing in the indictment points to any connection of those indicted to the Russian government! This is on a par with the hysteria over social media placements by “Russian interests” on account of which hysterical Senators demanded that tech giants impose content controls, or dimwit CIA agents getting bilked out of $100,000 by a Russian scam artist in Berlin in exchange for – well, pretty much nothing. (The CIA denies it, which leads one to suspect it is true.) Paragraph 95 of the indictment points to what amounted to a click-bait scam to fleece American merchants and social media sites from between $25 and $50 per post for promotional content. Paragraph 88 refers to “self-enrichment” as one motive of the alleged operation. That makes a lot more sense than the bone-headed claim in the indictment that the Russian goal was to “sow discord in the U.S. political system” by posting content on “divisive U.S. political and social issues.” What! Americans disagree about stuff? The Russians are setting us against each other! In announcing the indictment, Rosenstein said the Russians wanted to “promote discord in the United States and undermine public confidence in democracy. We must not allow them to succeed.” (He wagged his finger with resolve at that point.) It evidently doesn’t occur to Rosenstein that he and his pals have undermined public confidence in our institutions by perverting them for political ends.
Demonizing dissent. Those indicted allegedly sought to attract Americans’ attention to their diabolical machinations through appeal to hot-button issues (immigration, Black Lives Matter, religion, etc.) and popular hashtags (#Trump2016, #TrumpTrain, #MAGA, #Hillary4Prison). Have you taken a stand on divisive issues, Dear Reader? Have you used any of these hashtags? Are you reading this commentary? You too might be an unwitting Russian stooge! Vladimir Putin is inside your head! Hopefully DOJ will set up a hotline where patriotic citizens influenced without their knowledge can now report themselves, now that they’ve been alerted. Are you a thought criminal, comrade?
An amateurish, penny-ante scheme with no results – compared to what the U.S. does. At worst, even if all the allegations in the indictment are true – a big “if” – it would still amount to the kind of garden-variety kicking each other under the table that a lot of countries routinely engage in. As described in the indictment this gargantuan Russian scheme was (as reported by Politico) an “expensive [sic] effort that cost millions of dollars and employed as many as hundreds of people.” Millions of dollars! Hundreds of people! How did the American republic manage to survive the onslaught? Rosenstein was keen to point out for the umpteenth time that nothing the Russians are alleged to have done (never mind what they actually might have done, which is far less) had any impact on the election. That stands in sharp contrast to the lavishly funded, multifaceted, global political influence and meddling operations the U.S. conducts in nations around the world under the guise of “democracy promotion.” The National Endowment for Democracy (NED), along with its Democratic and Republican sub-organizations, can be considered the flagship of a community of ostensibly private but government-funded or subsidized organizations that provides the soft compliment to American hard military power. The various governmental, quasi-governmental, and nongovernmental components of this network – sometimes called the “Demintern” in analogy to the Comintern, an organization comparable in global ambition if differing in ideology and methods – are also coordinated internationally at the official level through the less-well-known “Community of Democracies.” It is oftendifficult to know where the “official” entities (CIA, NATO, the State Department, Pentagon, USAID) divide from ostensibly nongovernmental but tax dollar-supported groups (NED, Freedom House, Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty) and privately funded organizations that cooperate with them towards common goals (especially the Open Society organizations funded by billionaire George Soros). Among the specialties of this network are often successful “color revolutions” targeting leaders and governments disfavored by Washington for regime change – a far cry from the pathetic Russian operation alleged in the indictment.
“Mitt Romney was right.” Already many of Trump’s supporters are not only crowing with satisfaction that the indictment proves there was no collusion but refocusing their gaze from the domestic culprits within the FBI, DOJ, etc., to a bogus foreign threat. “This whole saga just brings back the 2012 election, and the fact that Mitt Romney was right” for “suggesting that Russia is our greatest geopolitical foe,” is the new GOP meme. To the extent that Russiagate was less about Trump than ensuring that enmity with Russia will be permanent and will continue to deepen, this latest Mueller indictment is a smashing success already.
The Mueller indictment against the Russians is a well-timed effort to distract Americans’ attention from the real collusion rotting the core of our public life by shifting attention to a foreign enemy.
Many of the people behind it are the very officials who are themselves complicit in the rot. But the sad fact is that it will probably work.
