Some underrated YA novels that are actually good and you should read right now
-Asylum by Madeline Roux
A boy named Dan goes to college at a school called Brookline, which used to be an insane asylum. He makes two friends, Abby and Jordan and together they try to figure out all the creepy secrets about the place, relating it an old warden who has the same name as our main character, Daniel Crawford
It’s a trilogy (Titles: Asylum, Sanctum and Catacomb), has three novellas (The Scarlets, The Bone Artists and The Warden) and a prequel (Escape From Asylum)
It’s really well written, creepy (horror but not terrifying) and we get five main queer characters: Jordan, Cal, Ricky, Kay and Fallon and one minor one: Martin
I recommend starting in canonical order (not the order of release), so: Escape From Asylum, Asylum, Sanctum and Catacomb and then the Novellas: The Scarlets, The Bone Artists and The Warden
-The Jewel by Amy Ewing (The Lone City series)
After the royalty starts dying out, they start using surrogates to bear children who can control things called auguries which control the how the baby looks and it’s personality. Our main character, Violet is a surrogate who gets auctioned off to the Duchess of the lake. Soon she realises she doesn’t like being treated like an expendable object and wants to get out of the jewel. She meets a boy named Ash who is a companion (basically a boyfriend for hire) to the Duchess’s niece. They fall in love and have to get out together
Trilogy (Titles: The Jewel, The White Rose and The Black Key) and two novellas that are only available as ebooks (Garnet’s Story and The House of the Stone)
It’s super good but the main romance is a little insta-lovey. Even though it takes place over a couple of moths, the chapters are so close together it doesn’t feel that way, but it’s not that bad. The lore of the surrogates is also super interesting and Raven and Garnet are the best and most interesting characters by far
-Queen of Hearts by Colleen Oaks
A origin story of the queen of hearts and how she became the way she was portrayed in Alice in Wonderland
Trilogy: Queen of Hearts, Blood of Wonderland, War of the Cards
Super good, I loved the plot twist of why she was written that way, I didn't love Wordley’s twist, I thought it was kinda dumb but whatever. The other plot twists, especially the Cheshire one was really good
-The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzi Lee (The Monatgue siblings series)
We follow Monty, Percy and Felicity as they go touring around Europe. The plan is that they travel for a year, Percy goes to law school in Holland, Felicity goes to finishing school and Monty goes back home to run the estate but boy do things go wrong after Monty steals an innocent looking puzzle box, only to find that it’s not so innocent, all while dealing with his sister’s eye rolls and sassy remarks and his massive crush on his best friend Percy
Trilogy (The Gentleman’s Guide to Vice and Virtue, The Ladies Guide to Petticoats and Piracy and The Nobleman’s Guide to Shipwrecks and Scandal) and one novella (The Gentleman’s Guide to Getting Lucky)
Probably one of my favourite books of all time. Queer (and it has pirates, what could be better?) Historical romance, just so good and so well written
-Girls With Sharp Sticks by Suzanne Young
Trilogy (Girls With Sharp Sticks, Girls With Razor Hearts and Girls With Rebel Souls)
About a bunch of girl who are in a private academy and being trained to be perfect. But soon they realise the indoctrination they’re undergoing and fight back to escape the academy
The theme of sexism is a little heavy handed, the book sort of shoves it into your face that that is the theme but apart from that, very enjoyable. There’s a queer side ship too which I appreciated. The main romance is cute too if a little uninteresting since there’s hardly any drama, it’s just “I like you,” “I like you too,” “Cool let’s date” and I’m okay with that
-Dorothy Must Die by Danielle Paige
About a girl, Amy that gets to Oz in a tornado and it put to the mission of killing Dorothy Gale who came back after the original plot of the wizard of oz, crowned herself as leader and fucked up the place
Series (Dorothy Must Die, The Wicked Will Rise, Yellow Brick War, The End of Oz) and nine novellas (No Place Like Oz, The Witch Must Burn, Order of the Wicked, Ruler of Beasts, Heart of Tin, The Straw King, The Wizard Returns, Dark Side of the Rainbow and The Queen of Oz)
Super creative premise, I think. The book was fun and I loved all the rebellion planning. Dorothy was a great villain and a great character

EAH VA/Seiyuus
You know where this is going. For @sayuricorner's TW x EAH AU.
So, this was inspired by these two videos:
Can Twisted Wonderland Character VAs Sing? Part 1
Can Twisted Wonderland Character VAs Sing? Part 2
And that got the gears in my head turning and I just went with it, so here it is!
A few key things:
There are three VA/Seiyuus per character because I didn't want to overwhelm myself.
Some of the characters will have the same VAs because I thought the voice suited more than one character as well as to get a feel for their characters and because I was lazy about looking at every single VAs filmography.
I also included some of the roles those actors played so that there's some sort of building block for them.
I won't be including their English or Latin America VAs because you can find those on the EAH wikia, but I'll include a link.
(It's looooong so it's under the cut.)
Enjoy my usual insanity.

Alrighty everyone, buckle up because we are going on one hell of a roller coaster ride tonight.
(This is only my viewpoint, and it is very similar to another users so I would reccomend checking out anekogia's debunking of this. They explain the situation much better)
Before we start I would like to say that you should NOT harass or attack ANYONE mentioned or referred to in this post. The best thing you can do for us is to block and/or report! Bullying, harassment, threatening, etc. is not needed in any way, shape or form!
A tumblr user reached out to me earlier today about disturbance within the Twisted Wonderland Fandom. I have been doing my own research on the team they are accusing, and the person themself.
My first instinct was to take in the information of the individual first. I did so, and then did my research on them.
Here is what I've gathered.
This individual reached out to me for help. I want to help anyone I can, and so I am going to help them, but in a different way then they may think.
I went through the videos of this team's channel and I noticed a reoccurring theme in each of them.
There is credit in every description of the videos. Credit to the Disney, Aniplex, and the Official Twisted Wonderland team, as well as credit to the voice actors, and even to the channel they acquired the subs and translations from.
Here are screenshots from the descriptions to prove my point;
(All Links will be manually added if needed, but for now I want to keep this short. If you would like me to add links to this post, DM me and ask and I will gladly do so :) )
The first image states:
"Thank you to ShelBB who provided our translations! "
https://m.youtube.com/c/ShelBB/
"Team Avalon doesn't own or claim to own Twisted Wonderland. It is the property of Disney and Aniplex. "
"Please Support the Official Release! "
They explicitly state that they are not the original owners, and do not want to convey that message.
The Second images states credits to their VA's
Trey Clover | Sam: Mackenzie Ryan
Ace: TristanStoneVA
Deuce | Delinquent B: GArnoldVO
Grim | Delinquent A: Andrushka
Yuu/MC: Artryid Hamilton
CastingCallClub:
The Third Image has a link to their patreon. As many of you know, most creators will use a patreon if they are not getting a direct income from their videos. They have no ads on their videos. Their patreon is there so that if you want to, you can support them! They are not forcing anyone to support them.
Below the links to their Patreon, Facebook and Twitter, is a direct link to the Twisted Wonderland Section of Youtube!
There are proper credits to the VA's of this most recent video, and if you check other videos, they credit the VA's used in those as well. Not only is there credit, but there are links to the VA's personal pages (if they have any)
The moral of the story is, if you think something is wrong, or you have a problem with someone, there is an easy way to block or report the individual, group, or team. There is no reason to cause harmful conflict, and remember that we are all entitled to our own opinions.
I will be reblogging @anekogia 's explanations under the tag Twisted Wonderland Debunking for easy access.
Thank you for your time, I hope you all have a wonderful day, afternoon, evening, night or morning!

The Nutcracker and the Four Realms: My Review
Long ago, the Four Realms lived together in harmony.
Then everything changed when Mother Ginger attacked.
In 1910, British writer Edith Nesbit’s story The Magic City began to be serialized in The Strand Magazine. The story followed two children, Philip and Lucy, who end up in a fantastical city created by Philip from various toys, game pieces, and objects found around the house. Philip is believed to be either the prophesied Deliverer or Destroyer, and must perform several tasks to prove himself the former, with Lucy tagging along as a “co-Deliverer.”
It may seem strange to bring Nesbit’s story up while discussing Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, but upon watching the latter, it becomes clear that the film has more in common with that story than E.T.A. Hoffman’s.
(Spoilers following.)
The original Hoffman story, while including a magical land populated by toys in its plot, spent most of its time in the “real” world, save for Drosselmeyer’s stories explaining the Nutcracker’s origins. For most of the story, Marie (Clara in the ballet) stays in the real world, witnessing the Nutcracker and the toys battle the Mouse King and his mice, and later on facing the Mouse King alone in the dead of night in order to protect the Nutcracker from harm. It is only after the Mouse King’s death that Marie sees the Kingdom of Dolls and the wonders in that land. It is, in many ways, more of an urban fantasy than a portal fantasy.
By contrast, The Nutcracker and the Four Realms is a standard portal fantasy, following Clara as she winds up in the world of the Four Realms one Christmas Eve while searching for a key that can open an egg-shaped object her late mother Marie left behind for her. Unfortunately, the key also turns out to be a Macguffin that can turn the tide of the war between the Regents of the Lands of Snowflakes, Flowers, and Sweets, and Mother Ginger, who rules over the now derelict Land of Amusements with a horde of mice and a gang of elf-like clowns at her service. Accompanied by the Nutcracker soldier Philip (who, coincidentally, shares his name with the boy protagonist of Nesbit’s Magic City), Clara sets out to get the key back, all the while learning more about the Realms and the connection her mother had to it.
As many are aware, the film follows in the footsteps of Disney’s other live-action films such as 2010’s Alice in Wonderland by taking a whimsical, fantastical story and dropping it into a heroic fantasy adventure (not that the original story was without heroics; it just wasn’t a C.S. Lewis-lite fantasy). This is reflected most in comments made by production designer Guy Hendrix Dyas in regards to designing and building the Four Realms; Dyas has stated that he tried “desperately to make a logic to this entire universe, so the 5-year-old me would believe in this world.” To that end, the Four Realms contain details such as the Land of Flowers being home to farmers, the Land of Snowflakes being home to politicians, etc. This also extends to the origins of the world’s citizens, who are revealed to have originally been toys that Clara’s mother brought to life with a machine known only as the Engine.
On principle, the idea of making a colorful, whimsical fantasy world with some thought into how it functions is not a bad idea. Fantasy worlds have changed over the past century or so, going from the colorful Land of Oz, to the more serious and thought out Middle-Earth, to, more recently, the dark and gritty continent of Westeros, which has less in terms of magic and more in terms of political intrigue and the like. (This may be a broad generalization, but you get the point.) A world like the Four Realms could begin a little push back towards the more whimsical, pre-Tolkien kind of fantasy world, while not neglecting the evolution of complexity in such settings. Who knows?
Probably the weakest part of the film is the way the villain is treated; once again, this is a Disney film with a twist villain, the twist in this case being the Sugar Plum Fairy. Some backstory is given to her motives; Sugar Plum is revealed to resent Marie for leaving the Four Realms to be a wife and mother, and, on a more personal level, for what Sugar Plum views as Marie abandoning her for Clara. The problem in the execution is that there is little focus on Sugar Plum and how she feels towards Marie and her decision to leave; even more glaring is how Mother Ginger is implied to have been framed by Sugar Plum, but the exact details of how this framing or inciting incident happened is never revealed. A flashback of some sort would have helped, at the very least. It all feels rather forced, like a switch being turned.
Visually, the film is very pretty to look at; the overall aesthetic of the Four Realms is vibrant and colorful, as are the costumes the various characters wear, both there and in London. A few other creative decisions are really inspired as well; for example, the Mouse King is not a seven-headed rodent, but instead a horde of mice merged into a humanoid mouse-like creature, meaning that when Clara is grabbed by the Mouse King’s arms, she is actually being swarmed/carried by hundreds of mice—anyone with musophobia will probably be a little freaked out by that. Mother Ginger’s steampunk circus/mecha is also a well-designed contraption, especially with how it also draws up images of a gigantic porcelain doll. The acting is also decent; Mackenzie Foy does a good job as Clara, even if her British accent may be a bit sketchy at times.
How well one will enjoy this movie will depend on how easily they can separate it from the original tale and ballet. Unlike, say, Frozen, which removed any references to Hans Christian Andersen’s The Snow Queen (in the US, anyway; other countries still had the title), the film still has the title of The Nutcracker. Some may be able to severe any connection between the story and film, while others may find it difficult. Overall, though, what can be agreed upon, is that The Nutcracker and the Four Realms, while ultimately a harmless film to view during the holiday season, will probably not make any waves amongst other films in its genre.

My review of “The Nutcracker and the four realms” (Possible spoilers!)
So...the new “Nutcracker”-movie. I love the original story and have seen many versions of it. This wasn’t the best of them, but not bad, either. I loved the actors: especially Keira, she blew this role out of the water. Her character was really well-leyered and her annoyence in the beginning was really believable. If I didn’t knew she was in the film, I wouldn’t have recognized her. I mean, is there anything she can’t do? I was almost frustrated how perfect she was. It was nice to see how much Mackenzie Foy has grown and matured, I’m sure that she will get many roles in the future. The dance sequences and music were so lovely and made me feel really nostalgic (translation: was near the tears), and the costumes and atmosphere were magical. I liked that it was more about the family than finding romantic love, and it was nice that Clara and Nutcracker were just close friends. Her relationship with his Dad was touching as well. I’m glad they included mice somehow and didn’t make them talk.
Still, something was missing. There were some nice surpises, but it was quite predictable at some points as well. The secrets stayed hidden at some certain point, until after them the resolution was obvious. I don’t want to give too much away, but I think you know what I mean. I think they went ahead quite fast and there were some parts that could’ve been left out to make the story more deep (for example, Clara standing in front of her people many times). In my twisted mind, I thought the Nutcracker would be the villain, but this was fine as well. In addition, I can’t help but think that this movie was a mix of some other Disney-movies like Frozen and Alice in the Wonderland. I missed some originality.
All in all, an entertaining and visually beautiful movie. However, it won’t probably find its place on my shelf of Disney-collections, I’m afraid.

Fr thought of Mackenzie figuring out Jamil Um without trying at all at the kitchen scene hahahaha
Mackenzie: I think it’ll be hard for your magic to work, since you need to look me in the eyes.
Jamil: ….. I didn’t told my magic.
Mackenzie: *leaves with Funghi and also took a plate back to the dorm*
Jamil: WTF I DID NOT TOLD ANYONE MY MAGIC

11th June 2017
We slept the whole night through. The bed was so big, we didn't even know each other was in it. We woke up and got ourselves ready. Steve made me a coffee and I woke the other two up. It was AMAZING to sleep in a room without 6 other people, it was quiet and not smelly and oh god. Just amazing.
Dan was slightly behind (like normal) and decided to make toast at 0725. We had to be out of the door by 0730 latest. Steve and Meg put the stuff into the car and I did the look round the house. We walked outside and the sky was stunning. Pinks, purples, blues. We took photos and got on the road again. Megan wanted to drive for a bit so she got in the front seat. She had to reverse off the drive which panicked her slightly, but after a few goes, we were on the road towards The Grampians National Park. Mel and Jack were meeting us at 0930 to do the first lookout point 'The Pinnacle'. It was only a two hour drive which went pretty smoothly. It was almost a straight road the whole way there. As we were driving, we saw massive Kangaroo's jumping around in a field which was amazing. I love seeing animals in the wild.
We got near to the Grampians and Steve took over driving. We tried to find the Pinnacle's but we couldn't. We ended up getting lost on top of a mountain somewhere. I managed to get a stunning photograph of the sun coming up with the fog on the mountain, every silver lining. I rang Mel and they were lost too. We decided to meet at the Information Centre.
We drove down, parked the car and found Mel and Jack getting a coffee in the newsagents next door. We all got a hot drink and looked at the map. A lady had highlighted the bits we would want to do and how to go about it which was nice. The main attractions were all in Halls Gap so we didn't need to drive all that far even though the park was massive.
We all drove to the 'Wonderland Carpark' which was packed! It was about 1100 by the time we got there, which to me is still early. The Pinnacle is the biggest attraction so we wanted to get that over with. It said that it was a strenuous climb and it would take 2 hours to get up and down. We got our bags on and left for the walk.
When the sign suggested 'strenuous' they weren't kidding. The climb was a steep uphill, off path climb. Rocks that weren't stable and slippery. Some parts had stairs made out of rocks but that was the worst bit. Our legs were in agony. We were all sweating and dying for water. Luckily, we all bought massive bottles with us but we didn't expect it to be this tiring. It became silent half way through as nobody could breathe enough to talk.
We eventually got to the top, just after an hour of constant climbing and the views were unreal. Completely worth every painful step. We were on the top of a mountain and there were no barriers to stop anyone from falling. It was so natural. People were taking photos and videos all around us. Some just sat down, chilling, enjoying the view. We sat down for a while catching our breath before taking photos. Dan and Jack have a fear of heights but handled it really quite well. We all sat on the edge of the cliff to get a good photo. Jack even managed it after a while. I got a really good photo on my GoPro of him so he'll be pleased with that. My mum and dad would have had kittens.
We started to climb down which was really easy on the stamina point of view but still hurt our legs. The angle was a steep slant so we had to stop ourselves from falling and going too fast down hill. Steve managed to fall over and twist his ankles - of course it would be Steve, why would it be anyone else? His ankles are so weak from football as it is.
We eventually got to the bottom around 1330. Our legs felt like sweaty death. Good job Mel bought her inhaler with her as she was getting weasy. We got into the car and went to the next lookout points - Reid and Balconies. These lookouts weren't strenuous and come off the same car park. We got there and luckily found a space. We took more photos at the Reid lookout which was nice. We were overlooking a valley full of trees and more mountains. We walked the 1km to the Balconies lookout which was almost the same but higher up. People were climbing over the barriers to get better photos on rocks that might be unstable. My eyes couldn't watch. We all got more photos and left for the car. We went to our final lookout which was the Mackenzie Falls - a massive waterfall. We got to the car park and started to walk down the steep hill towards the falls. It was really cloudy so we decided to give it a miss and try again tomorrow. It was 1645 and everyone was starving.
We noticed an Indian restaurant on the way into Halls Gap before we started our trip so we went there for a family meal. The national park is so big, it has its own police force and all sorts.
We drove the 20 minutes down the mountain to the bottom where the restaurant was. It was 1700 when we got there. The restaurant was completely empty but they said that as we didn’t have a booking, we would have to be finished by 1900. No problem for us, we were knackered and wanted to get back to our new house.
I ordered what I always order at an Indian - chicken korma, plain rice and sweet naan. Steve had a rogan josh which came out like a vindaloo. He requested for it to be 'medium' spice and the waitress told him that it would be spicy. Steve replied with 'that's fine, I like spice'. He didn't realise that it would be THAT spicy especially when there were 4 more options that were much hotter. The spice ruined his meal for him but he managed as much as he could.
The restaurant got packed after about half an hour. The majority of the town must've been there. There was a lovely fire in the middle of the restaurant that kept us all really warm.
We left at 1830 to go find our house. We weren't too far from it - maybe half an hour. It was going to take us slightly longer as it was pitch black, driving through the mountain and it started to rain. We had to be really careful, especially because of all the wildlife. We stopped at the bottle shop to get some beers and wine. Megs and I shared a bottle of white as Meg doesn't like red, Mel and Jack shared a bottle of white, Steve and Dan shared 6 beers.
We started driving towards the house which was difficult. They don't really use street lights here so we were relying on the car lights only. I was the driver as Steve had a beer with his dinner. I was in front and Mel was behind following. After about 40 minutes, our SatNav told us to turn right into the street. We started telling really scary stories because we were in the middle of nowhere, mid-forest/mountain with no service. We lost the SatNav eventually but we were on the right road. We drove down a bumpy, stony road and came across two gates. The sign said 'Banksia B&B' which is where we had booked. We were so scared to go in. We drove forward and followed the dirt track that had been made by previous cars. We kept going until we saw a building in the distance. I turned the car towards the building and a woman and man came out and pointed where to park.
We thought that this was definitely something out of a Hollywood movie and that we were all going to be murdered. We shouldn't have told stupid stories on the way to scare us! We parked the cars and introduced ourselves (although, I was the one to get out first and say hi). I'm really pushing my confidence and anxiety in this country.
The lady introduced herself as 'Julie-ann' and I introduced myself as Charlie-Ann. Her husbands name was Rob. They were as Australian as they could've been. They took us inside and showed us where we were staying. There was one big double room with a TV, bathroom, sofa and massive queen bed. The other room had a toilet and one double bed, with a sofa bed pulled out. Unfortunately, Steve and I are far too polite and let the others pick what they wanted first so we ended up with the sofa bed. The annoying thing was (most, for me) is that it was absolutely freezing and our bed was the only one without a heated blanket. Mel and Jack took the private room and Dan and Meg had the double bed.
The couple showed us around the house - it was massive! They showed us the kitchen and the chill out room, where the TV, pool table and bar was. They had a dog called Bouncer and a cat called Willow. Steve's Nan’s dog is called Bouncer and my cat at home is called Willow... So odd. There was a cockatoo, too, called Oscar. We didn't go into the living room as that’s where Rob and Julie-Ann were and we didn't want to invade on their privacy. Steve wanted to go in and chat with them as he thought it'd be rude not too. It was a hard one. They had 50 acres of land surrounding their house, including a lake right outside. They had a balcony area which surrounded the main part of the house which was nice. Julie-Ann said when we get up, there will be kangaroos and emus everywhere. I was so excited.
They showed us where the Jacuzzi was and we all got ready to go in. When Rob lifted the lid off, the steam came pouring out. It looked so good. It was a massive Jacuzzi with 2 lay down seats and 2 normal seats. Steve, Megan and I were first in so we picked the good seats. When Megan was getting into her bikini in the toilet, she found a spider. She shouted "DAN!" for help and decided to run out, boobs flying everywhere! It was so funny, she jumped onto the bed. I grabbed a towel to cover her up and dumb and dumber (Steve and Dan) tried to catch it and get rid of it as quickly as possible. We all sat in the 34 degrees Jacuzzi for well over an hour, chatting away eating M&M's which ended up melting. We all looked like dried up prunes by the time we decided to get out. We were dreading getting out of the hot water into the garden. The temperature outside must've been around 5 degrees. We jumped out one by one and almost froze. I've never felt anything so cold in my life. We ran inside and got changed as quickly as possible.
We all went into Mel's room and put the TV on. They had really soft carpet in their room as it was finished. The room we were staying in was still being done-up. They had a toilet but the shower wasn't fitted yet so we would all have to use Mel's tomorrow. There wasn’t carpet either, it had hard cold tiles. It will look really nice once its completed. We sat chatting away, drinking our wine watching the TV. There wasn't anything on except Pirates of the Caribbean. By 2230, I was knackered. We all left the room and went to bed. The mattress of the sofa bed was really comfortable with a nice blanket beneath the duvet. Unfortunately, the bed rolled into the middle so Steve and I didn't sleep at all. The bed must've been really old and we ached so much. By 0300, I ended up sitting up and crying because I was that tired, I just wanted to sleep. I couldn't lay on the floor as there was no carpet and there wasn't a chair to sit on either. I'm an emotional wreck when I'm tired (I also cry at anything).

Greta Van Fleet “Anthem of the Peaceful Army”
Rating: 6.5/10
Originally published on November 2nd, 2018 via The Wolf Howls online high school newspaper.
Formed in 2012, Greta Van Fleet is a young rock band from the small town of Frankenmuth, Michigan. Frankenmuth, or rather, “Little Bavaria,” is best known for being the home of Bronner’s Christmas Wonderland which is promoted as “the world’s largest Christmas store.” Greta Van Fleet consists of twenty-two-year-old twin brothers, vocalist Josh Kiska, and guitarist Jake Kiska, nineteen-year-old younger brother, and bassist Sam Kiska, and nineteen-year-old drummer Danny Wagner. Greta Van Fleet is often compared to Led Zeppelin rather unsurprisingly as Josh Kiska’s howling falsetto rips through each song in a way that is reminiscent of Robert Plant’s distinct vocals. Personally, I consider Greta Van Fleet to sound much like The Black Crowes (Josh’s vocals being the only exception). Greta Van Fleet’s roots in blues and soul are obviously reflected in their music much like the British Invasion bands of the ‘60s like The Who, The Rolling Stones, The Yardbirds and countless others. It was truly shocking to hear Josh’s pure rock ‘n’ roll shriek (not unlike Robert Plant’s) on “Safari Song” and “Highway Tune” off of their 2017 released “From The Fires” double EP. Josh’s voice sounded so similar to Robert Plant’s that it was a bit disconcerting (but completely awesome). Last March, Robert Plant even nodded to Greta Van Fleet in an interview with Australia’s Network Ten, “There’s a band in Detroit called Greta Van Fleet. They are Led Zeppelin I. Beautiful little singer, I hate him!”
Greta Van Fleet released their debut LP, “Anthem of the Peaceful Army” on October 19, 2018. The album contains standout tracks such as, “Age of Man,” “When The Curtain Falls,” “Brave New World,” “Mountain of the Sun,” and “Lover Leaver (Taker, Believer).” With Jake’s strong and tuneful guitar riffs, Josh’s golden pipes, Danny’s solid drumming, and Sam’s distorted bass, “Anthem of the Peaceful Army” is a solid hard rock album that packs a powerful punch. However, many of the songs on the album lack a variance in sound and composition which, in turn, lowered my rating of the album. Greta Van Fleet could be a vital rock band of my generation, that is until they find their specific sound. Quite a few of their songs have a general classic rock feel of which we have all heard before. It takes a great band to take that and twist it and meld it and let it evolve into something else—something entirely different and new. Don’t get me wrong, I think Greta Van Fleet rocks. I am fond of many of their songs. I believe they have what it takes to dig deep and create that sound. It takes time for a band’s sound to evolve and I believe Greta Van Fleet is going to hang around for a while. It’s absolutely fantastic that this young rock band is starting to gain some traction, so to speak, in today’s music considering the current state of it. I believe pop music, among other things, is cyclical if the past is any indication. There are rock bands everywhere. One just has to dig a little to find them.
Of course, stylized and finely produced artists and groups can be fun to listen and dance to, but after a while, people need something that is real. They need bands that play hard, that pour sweat, blood, and tears into their music and performances (sometimes literally). Because for those bands, it’s about the music and the love of playing. Not the fame and everything that goes along with it. Some bands didn’t even mean to become famous, it just happened. (Nirvana, anyone?) Just look at what that caused in mainstream music and pop culture then. Who says that can’t happen now? Greta Van Fleet might just be the key or merely one of the many bands who will begin the next music movement. Rock and roll is not dead. Rock and roll is alive and well, thank you very much. Are you ready?

June Reading Wrap Up.
This is the frist time I do this but I intend to keep up with it every month so let's see.
# of books I read in the month: 14
Tempest and Slaughter by Tamora Pierce
Raiting: 🌟🌟🌟
Review: I really liked the narrative style and the world building, as well as the magic system and politics but it has no plot, I was waiting for some sort of conflict to arise (there was a lot of set up for it but nope,) so even if I was invested with the characters and the world they lived in nothing much happened so that is why I couldn't give it 5 stars. Also this is part of a series, but I don't think I am intrested in reading the rest if there are more books without plot in it.
A Hundred Thousand Worlds by Bob Proehl
Raiting: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Review: I really liked it a lot, a very good read for people that love and have experienced the fandom world, especially artists/writers/cosplayers on a comic-on. The characters were pretty good, and the familiar drama was very intresting to read about. There are very little aspects I didn't like overall it was a very enjoyable read and I totally recommend it.
Apollo is Mine by Mila Young
Raiting: 🌟
Review: I do read erotica/smutty books, and I do enjoy them from time to time (like I don't read them to analyze them or anything) but oh boy. So what drew me in to buy it was that it was a Harem and I love Reverse Harem, but I have come to realize that western authors do RH very differently than asian authors and I don't like it. I had no more expectatives from this book than a fun smutty book, but nope it was so boring for me and the sex scenes were pretty bland so I didn't like it.
A Court of Thorns and Roses (ACoTaR #1) by Sara J Maas
Raiting: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Review: At last!! I am so behind when it comes to YA literature cuz I was a pretentious ass when I was in middle/high school so I didn't read any that came out then, and now I am catching up. I enjoyed it a lot more than I thought, like I was thinking it was gonna be all rapey (I heard it was very abusive and all that jazz but it wasn't? ?) but nope, like it had some stuff but the guy wasn't the romantic interest and it was somewhat justified. The characters were ok (I like them but I don't love them) but gosh the villian was ridiculous, the curse was so damn specific tho like Feyre was the only one who could have possibly break it and it was kinda silly. Still I liked it and I will definitely continue with the series.
Dread Nation by Justina Irland
Raiting: 🌟 🌟 🌟
Review: I was so excited to get to this one and I am so mad that I didn't like it. I mean there was nothing wrong with it, I liked the characters for the most part and some of it I found intresting but as a whole I just didn't enjoy it.
17 Mujeres Premios Nobel de la Ciencia - Helene Merle Beral
Raiting: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Review: It was very intresting, I didn't even know half of this women which is a shame because all of them were amazing scentists who fought so hard to have their work recognized and I always love to read their stories.
The River Between by Ngugi wa Thiong'o
Raiting: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Review: I really love African literature, their authors have such a powerful style, and of course I really loved this book. The need to unify the tribe not by attacking the white colonizers but educating themselves and forming a political front while still upholding their traditions was amazing to read and I definitely recommend this.
Beast: A Tale of Love and Revenge by Lisa Jensen
Raiting: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Review: It was so good and so very original!!! I'm not gonna spoil anything but the twist in the end changes the way you view the frist part of the book (I mean there is a scene of rape and it's totally fine if you don't wanna read it but most people that have rated this book low hasn't read the whole thing and can't understand the whole point). My fav Beauty and the Beast retelling so far.
The Gentleman's Guide to Vice and Virtue by Mackenzie Lee
Raiting:🌟🌟🌟
Review: I was hoping to like it more from what I had heard in the book community everywhere, it was okay I did enjoy it but I don't love it as much as I wish I did. I wanted to shake Monty for being such an asshole like 3/4 of the book but I did like Felicity and Percy a lot. The plot was intresting, I mean very tropey but in a good way.
A Blade so Black by L.L McKinney
Raiting: 🌟 🌟 🌟
Review: The cover of this book is completely beautiful, but I did not like the Nightmares and all the plot. The characters were funny (again very cliché, so much that I felt I was reading a fanfic of Alice in Wonderland which I mean maybe it is what the autor was going for and that's ok) and the Buffy references always made me smile, but I will not continue the series cuz I was not invested in the plot or world building at all.
The Book of Hidden Things by Francesco Dimitri
Raiting: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Review: Magical realism is always my jam, and this book was so very intresting. I loved the friendship of the guys and their opinions and memories on Art, god finding out what really was going on was pretty terrifying. I definitely recommend this book.
Malinche by Laura Esquivel
Raiting: 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟 🌟
Review: Laura Esquivel's prose is beautiful, every sentence she constructs is beautiful. And it was such a refreshing humanizing empathetic portrayal of a historical figure that is so unfairly hated and viewed as a traitor in the mexican culture. I absolutely adored it.
The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi
Raiting: 🌟 🌟
Reviews: Not the book for me. I loved the diversity of the main cast and the fact that Roshani Chokshi portrayed "La Belle Époque" As something that was beautiful only for colonizers and rich people. But I was really bored through it all and I just couldn't connect or invest myself with the characters so yeah. (I am still so bitter that I didn't liked this, maybe I will re-read it to give it another chance)
