Movie Review ~ Ricky Stanicky
The comedy in Ricky Stanicky isn’t always razor-sharp; yet it’s undeniably funny and an excellent palate cleanser from the stodgy trophy bait and studio leftovers we’ve been eating since mid-December.
Ricky Stanicky Synopsis: Ricky Stanicky is the name of an imaginary character invented by three longtime friends, as someone to blame for their misbehavior over the past two decades. When their partners become suspicious and demand to meet Stanicky, they decide to hire a washed-up actor to bring the character to lifeStars: Zac Efron, John Cena, Jermaine Fowler, Andrew Santino, Lex Scott Davis,…

I was abused and exploited by the University of Oregon
I wish that I had a neat little intro to this piece but there is nothing neat or fun about this article. It does not fit in with the rest of the pop culture content on my site, but it is an awful and emotionally draining situation, and I need a place to share my experiences. As I am sitting here, wondering if I should even be writing this post in the first place, I find myself wanting to get…

But when she is selected as a pilot for the next Salvage Suit, a job her mother did prior to her suicide, Jane's life spirals further out of control.
Morning Afters - Quinn's body changes every morning when they wake up to fit their current dysphoric needs. The system works for them—mostly. Pink is for Boys
"Pink or Blue? Which is intended for boys and which for girls? This question comes from one of our readers this month, and the discussion may be of interest to others. There has been a great diversity of opinion on this subject, but the generally accepted rule is pink for the boy and blue for the girl. The reason is that pink, being a more decided and stronger color, is more suitable for the boy, while blue, which is more delicate and dainty, is prettier for the girl." ~ The Infants' Department, June 1918

Pink is for girls and blue is for boys. But it hasn't always been this way. Colour coding infants as a way of denoting gender was popular in 20th century America. The problem? Pink and blue? Which is for boys and which is for girls?
In 1927 TIME Magazine asked ten of the "leading stores that sell baby equipment" which colour was for which gender. Four stores responded pink for girls and blue for boys; Macy's (Manhattan), Franklin Simon (Manhattan), Wanamaker's (Philadelphia) and Bullock's (Los Angeles). Five stores responded pink for boys and blue for girls; Best's (Manhattan), Marshall Field's (Chicago), Filene's (Boston), Maison Blanche (New Orleans) and The White House (San Francisco). Curiously Halle's (Cleveland) responded that pink was for both boys and girls.
This debate would continue and it wasn't until mid-20th century that pink for girls and blue for boys became firmly cemented in western culture.
However the idea of colour coding infants dates back to the 19th century. According to La cour de Hollande sous le règne de Louis Bonaparte in 1808 in Holland pink was used to announce the birth of a girl and blue a boy. In March 1856 Peterson's Magazine (Philadelphia, USA) advises that the ribbon on a christening cap should be blue for a boy and pink for a girl. On the 23rd of July 1893 the New York Times writes that for baby clothes it's "pink for a boy and blue for a girl!"

[The Oddie Children, oil on canvas, c. 1789, by William Beechey, via North Carolina Museum of Art.]
During the latter half of the 18th century one of the most popular outfits for young children, regardless of gender, was a white dress with a coloured sash tied around the waist. Pink and blue being the most popular colours, although other colours were worn as well. It would be tempting to assume that the colour of the sash indicated gender but there isn't clear evidence that this was the case. The Oddie Children (above) depicts Sarah, Henry, Catherine, and Jane Oddie. The three girls are all wearing white dresses; two with a blue sash one with a pink sash. We also see Henry Russell (bellow left) wearing a blue sash and Prince William (bellow right) wearing a pink sash.

Pink was just one of the many colours popular in 18th century English womenswear and seems to have stayed popular throughout the century. On the 3rd of January 1712 The Spectator published an article in which a man recalls seeing "a little Cluster of Women sitting together in the prettiest coloured Hoods that I ever saw. One of them was Blew, another Yellow, and another Philomot; the fourth was of a Pink Colour, and the fifth of a pale Green". On the 1st of May 1736 the Read's Weekly Journal, or British Gazetteer reports that the ladies attending the royal wedding wore gowns of "Gold stuffs, or rich Silks with Gold or Silver Flowers, or Pink or White Silks, with either Gold or Silver Netts or Trimmings;" shoes either "Pink, White or Green Silk, with Gold or Silver Lace and braid all over." On the 24th of May 1785 Charles Storer writes to Abigail Adams advising that fashionable colours in English court dress are "pink, lilac, and blue" such "as is worn at Versailles".

In particular pink was popular amongst young women as the colour was associated with youth. Older women who wore pink were mocked as vain for dressing in a way that was seen as improper for their age. On the 31st of January 1754 Lady Jane Coke writes to Mrs. Eyre criticising old women who wear pink:
As for fashions in dress, which you sometimes inquire after, they are too various to describe. One thing is new, which is, there is not such a thing as a decent old woman left, everybody curls their hair, shews their neck, and wears pink, but your humble servant. People who have covered their heads for forty years now leave off their caps and think it becomes them, in short we try to out-do our patterns, the French, in every ridiculous vanity.
Tumblr media
[Folly Embellishing Old Age With the Adornments of Youth, oil on canvas, c. 1743, by Charles-Antoine Coypel, via Master Art.]
For Englishmen acceptable clothing way much more limited. In A Foreign View of England in the Reigns of George I & George II Monsieur César de Saussure writes that Englishmen "do not trouble themselves about dress, but leave that to their womenfolk". He explains:
Englishmen are usually very plainly dressed, they scarcely ever wear gold on their clothes; they wear little coats called "frocks," without facings and without pleats, with a short cape above. Almost all wear small, round wigs, plain hats, and carry canes in their hands, but no swords. Their cloth and linen are of the best and finest. You will see rich merchants and gentlemen thus dressed, and sometimes even noblemen of high rank, especially in the morning, walking through the filthy and muddy streets.
César de Saussure warns that "a well-dressed person in the streets, especially if he is wearing a braided coat, a plume in his hat, or his hair tied in a bow, he will, without doubt, be called "French dog" twenty times perhaps before he reaches his destination" and is not only at risk of "being jeered at" but also "being bespattered with mud, but as likely as not dead dogs and cats will be thrown at him."
Tumblr media
[Reverend Charles Everard Booth, Captain Griffith Booth, and an Unidentified Man playing Billiards, oil on canvas, c. 1775-9, by John Hamilton Mortimer, via the Royal Collection Trust.]
For Englishmen dressing "plainly" mostly meant wearing blacks and browns. In his book on macaroni, Pretty Gentleman, Peter McNeil found that in contrast most English menswear that he describes as generally consisting of "monochrome broadcloth" macaroni wore a variety of colours including green, orange, yellow, violet, red, white, blue, gold, silver and of course pink.
But it's not just the macaroni of the 1770s & 1780s that wore pink. We see pink in descriptions of feminine men's dress (both real and fictional) throughout the 18th century.
On the 2nd of June 1722 Sarah Osborn writes to Robert Byng:
I believe the gentlemen will wear petticoats very soon, for many of their coats were like our mantuas. Lord Essex had a silver tissue coat, and pink color lutestring waistcoat, and several had pink color and pale blue paduasoy coats, which looked prodigiously effeminate.
On the 18th of October 1729 the Universal Spectator and Weekly Journal published a story where an "effeminate" man's clothes were described as follows:
He had a flower'd pink-colour Silk Coat, with a Green-Sattin Waistcoat lac'd with Silver. Velvet Breeches, Clock'd Stockings the Colour of his Coat, Red-heel'd Pumps, a Blue Ribbon at the Collar of his Shirt, and his Sword-Hilt he embrac'd under the Elbow of his Left Arm,
Tumblr media
[Sir Miles Stapylton, 4th Bt of Myton, oil on canvas, c. 1730-35, via Art UK.]
In The Adventures of Roderick Random (1748) the effeminate (and queer coded) Captain Whiffle is described as follows:
our new commander came on board in a ten-oared barge, overshadowed with a vast umbrella, and appeared in everything the reverse of Oakum, being a tall, thin young man, dressed in this manner: a white hat, garnished with a red feather, adorned his head, from whence his hair flowed upon his shoulders, in ringlets tied behind with a ribbon. His coat, consisting of pink-coloured silk, lined with white, by the elegance of the cut retired backward, as it were, to discover a white satin waistcoat embroidered with gold, unbuttoned at the upper part to display a brooch set with garnets, that glittered in the breast of his shirt, which was of the finest cambric, edged with right Mechlin: the knees of his crimson velvet breeches scarce descended so low as to meet his silk stockings, which rose without spot or wrinkle on his meagre legs, from shoes of blue Meroquin, studded with diamond buckles that flamed forth rivals to the sun! A steel-hilted sword, inlaid with gold, and decked with a knot of ribbon which fell down in a rich tassel, equipped his side; and an amber-headed cane hung dangling from his wrist. But the most remarkable parts of his furniture were, a mask on his face, and white gloves on his hands, which did not seem to be put on with an intention to be pulled off occasionally, but were fixed with a curious ring on the little finger of each hand.

[Henry Ingram, 7th Viscount Irwin and His Wife Anne, oil on canvas, c. 1745, by Philippe Mercier, via Art UK.]
On the 28th of July 1780 the London Courant reports:
A few days ago, a Macaroni made his appearance in the Assembly-room at Whitehaven, in the Following dress: a mixed silk coat, pink sattin waistcoat and breeches, covered with an elegant silver nett, white silk stockings with pink clocks, pink sattin shoes and large pearl buckles, a mushroom coloured stock, covered with a fine point lace; his hair dressed remarkably high, and stuck full of pearl pins.
On the 6th of August 1792 The Weekly Entertainer published Sketches and Portraits form the Life by Simon Tueopnrastus which included the following description:
Mercator was a youth of some genius and expectation, but by a strange perverseness of disposition, notwithstanding the extreme natural stiffness of his limbs, he had acquired an early attachment to the most finical and effeminate finery; so that, while yet a boy, he would exhaust every expedient of a fertile invention to procure a laced waistcoat, or the most foppish toy; would dangle a watch-string, with brass seals, from each fob, at a time when the frugal care of his parents would not permit him to wear a watch in either; and would strut in a fine pair of second-hand pink silk breeches, and a light blue coat, with all the formal dignity of—a soldier upon the parade.

While pink is mentioned in these descriptions of feminine men's dress it's not singled out as the girl colour the way pink would become in the 20th century. I would argue pink is seen as effeminate not because pink is a uniquely feminine colour but because it was used in fashionable dress. In 18th century England being interested in fashion was seen as an frivolous female trait. Men who showed too much interest in fashion were mocked and ridiculed for their gender nonconformity. "A Man must sink below the Dignity of his Nature, before he can suffer his Thoughts to be taken up on so trivial an Affair, as the Chosing, Suiting, and Adjusting the Adornments of his Person," complains a letter published on the 8th of May 1731 in Read's Weekly Journal, or British Gazetteer:
Decency of Garb ought inviolably to be preserved; nor can there be possibly an Excuse for Dressing like a Merry-Andrew: Rich and coloured Silks are in themselves effeminate, and unbecoming a Man; as are, in short, all Things that discover Dress to have been his Study 'Tis in vain for a Fop of Quality, to think his Title will protect him.

English fashion was highly influenced by French fashion. A popular colour scheme in French fashion was green and pink. A famous example of this colour pairing can be seen in François Boucher's portrait of Madame de Pompadour (above left), she is depicted in a green gown with pink bows and flowers. You can see and example of how this style inspired English fashion in Thomas Gainsborough's portrait of Elizabeth Wrottesley (above right), who is depicted in a green gown with a floral pattern adorned with pink, white and green striped bows.

[Left: Sir Harry Fetherstonhaugh, oil on canvas, c. 1776, by Pompeo Batoni, via Wikimedia.
Right: Francis Lind, oil on canvas, c. 1775, by George Romney, via Mackinnon Fine Art.]
Fashionable Englishmen were also inspired by these French designs. Horace Walpole refers to the popularity of the colour combination writing to Lady Ossory on the 19th of February 1774 "If I went to Almack's and decked out my wrinkles in pink and green like Lord Harrington, I might still be in vogue". Almack's is referring to Almack's Assembly Rooms on Pall Mall which is believed to be the inspiration for the Macaroni Club. (see Pretty Gentleman by Petter McNeil p52-55) In a letter to Lord Harcourt on the 27th of July 1773 Walpole writes of "Macaronis lolling out of windows at Almack's like carpets to be dusted."

Men who wore green seem to have been just as much, if not more, at risk of being ridiculed, or even assaulted, for the colour of their clothes as those who wore pink. In Pierre Jean Grosley's A Tour to London (originally published 1772) he recalls traveling with a young English surgeon who was harassed by Londoners due to his green French frock coat:
At the first visit which he paid me in London, he informed me, that, a few days after his arrival, happening to take a walk thro' the fields on the Surry side of the Thames, dressed in a little green frock, which he had brought from Paris, he was attacked by three of those gentlemen of the mobility, who, taking him for a Frenchman, not only abused him with the foulest language, but gave him two or three slaps on the face: "Luckily, added he in French, I did not return their ill language; for, if I had, they would certainly have thrown me into the Thames, as they assured me they would, as soon as they perceived I was an Englishman, if I ever happened to come in their way again, in my Paris dress."

The 18 Buzziest Films for Sale at TIFF 2024
Mike Flanagan’s “Life of Chuck,” Angelina Jolie’s “Without Blood” and Ron Howard’s “Eden” are all looking for buyers in Toronto
While the Toronto International Film Festival won’t officially launch a sales market until 2026, this year kicks off on Thursday with multiple buzzy titles for sale starring the likes of Ben Stiller, Sydney Sweeney, Jude Law and Tom Hiddleston.
Hollywood descends upon the Canadian metropolis for starry world premieres and the unofficial start of awards season. But for years now TIFF has also been a place of serious business. Last year the Glen Powell rom-com “Hit Man” sold to Netflix for $20 million at the festival after a raucous screening.
“They’ve very much shaped this festival with a sales environment in mind,” Intrepid Pictures CEO Trevor Macy told TheWrap as he prepared to head to TIFF with the Hiddleston-fronted Stephen King adaptation “The Life of Chuck,” from writer/director Mike Flanagan. “It seems like buyers are showing up in force.”
And to prove his point, Sony Classics scooped up “Jane Austen Ruined My Life” on Tuesday ahead of the festival.
Over 270 films are on the market this year, and Macy said that the demand “for strong titles in this moment of the market is going to exceed the supply of what good distributors have made internally.” He pointed to the success of Neon’s “Longlegs” this summer — the Nicolas Cage horror film grossed over $100 million off a strong marketing campaign — as an indie that connected with moviegoers theatrically.
But Jay Cohen, a partner at Gersh who heads film financing and is selling titles at the festival, cautioned that studios may only be looking to buy must-have titles, not filling out their slates. “There are really interesting films going to TIFF, but distributors already have pretty full slates,” he told TheWrap. “So the market will be driven more by passion less than need.”
Which means that only top quality films with identifiable audiences will attract buyers. Still, one agent noted that many of the buzziest sales titles, while officially unsold, already have distribution deals that have not been announced.
Macy and Intrepid are aiming to utilize what TIFF brings to the table — specifically when it comes to audiences — to find the right distributor for “The Life of Chuck,” which is a detour for horror filmmaker Flanagan, best known for “The Haunting” series on Netflix and the “Shining” sequel film “Doctor Sleep.” The new film is more “Stand by Me” than “The Shining,” and buyers haven’t prescreened it at all, so they will be seeing it for the first time at its world premiere in Toronto.
“From the time we made this movie, our first choice was Toronto because of the audience,” Macy said of the decision to debut at TIFF. “Our movie is fun and life-affirming but kind of sophisticated, so you want the right audience for that.” He and Flanagan had success a decade ago with the indie horror film “Oculus,” which found a buyer in Toronto and grossed over $44 million against a budget of just $5 million. It jumpstarted Flanagan’s career.
Will “The Life of Chuck” have the same success? Here’s TheWrap’s rundown of that and 17 of the other buzziest sales titles playing at TIFF this year.
Nutcrackers • Eden • The Life of Chuck • The Deb • Without Blood • On Swift Horses • The Last Showgirl • K-Pops • Daniela Forever • All Of You • Ick • Relay • The Friend • The Last Republican • Vice Is Broke • From Ground Zero • The Assessment

2024 Year in Review/Writing and Hobby Goals 2025
Back for another end of year reflection time!
A year and a half now in my current place and I still love it to bits. Unfortunately wasn't able to do the improvements I'd hoped for this year (cause rising costs of everything), but I hope in the next year or two from saving up and finally a salary increase.
It's been slow going, but I finally feel like my mental health is overall going in a positive direction. I felt my best this year since I started really struggling with my anxiety. Though I still slide into the mindset at times, my self-worth is no longer as tied to work and I'm living a better work life-balance, accepting that that has to be in place for my mental health. Which I wouldn't have done years ago.
Also after years of uncertainty, I finally have some answers as to my struggles with weight and am taking a supplement that I hope I'll see results with into the new year. Thankfully, my migraines didn't pop up as frequently thanks to getting on magnesium (wee!), but my sleep and stomach have been up and down and I'm still trying to figure those out (boo!).
Another sign my mental health has been better, my writing output is the most it has been in years. I surpassed my 25,000 word goal, posting 41,695 words, with between 10,000 - 20,000 words on unposted works. Baldur's Gate 3 (Tav/Gale and Durge[Sienna]/Gale fic) was the biggest driver of the year. Then with finally getting DA: Veilguard (I loathe putting the The in the title, lol) and falling head over heels with Emmrich Volkarin and my Rook, Caliwyn "Cali" Ingellvar, fic has been a happening with them. The real surprises of the year were starting up a multi-chapter BG3 AU of all things where my Bard Tav is under the patronage of Raphael AND fic of another Tav (Arivari "Ari") and her relationship with Raphael. Writing a multi-chaptered AU and a non-canon pairing in the same year was not on my writing bingo card for 2024, lol.
These all will continue to be my areas of focus in 2025. I'd also like to try and start dabbling in my original fiction again (it'll remain on the list until I finally do it!). I still have some My Time at Portia and Sandrock and Stardew Valley things I eventually want to write, but not at top priority (until the writing muse in the back of my brain makes it so).
I also worked on finishing up in progress Ellana/Blackwall ficlets. I decided it was time to set a final chapter number on my collection of ficlets and one-shots for them and Jane/Garrus. I'll never say never to writing for them again (especially when/if we get new ME), but I'm ready to finish the last of their stories and archive my other jotted down ideas.
Some favorites of my posted writing this year:
The Love of Mourn Watchers Ch 1-4 (Veilguard)
Raising of Stakes - Tav/Gale with Raphael interaction (BG3)
Wonders - Tav/Gale (BG3)
Respite - Tav/Gale (BG3)
Taken Care of - Tav/Gale (BG3)
Wounds - Sienna/Gale (BG3)
Stillness - Sienna/Gale (BG3)
Devil of a Patron Ch 1-2 - AU where Bard Tav is under patronage of Raphael (BG3)
Indulgences - Ari/Raphael (BG3)
While I didn't meet my reading goal of 20 new books, I did read 18 (plus, it evened out with all the writing I did, and reading so much Tav/Gale, Tav/Raphael and Emmrich/Rook fanfic). Favorite fiction and nonfiction included Raising Lazarus by Beth Macy; VE Schwab's A Darker Shade of Magic, Vicious, and Vengeful; T. Kingfisher's Paladin's Strength and Paladin's Faith; Murder Your Employer: The McMasters Guide to Homicide by Rupert Holmes; Winners Take All by Anand Giridharadas; and The Demon of Unrest by Erik Larson.
I did well with my games list for this year, playing and finishing Cyberpunk 2077, I Was A Teenage Exocolonist, and Horizon Zero Dawn and Horizon Forbidden West, all of which I loved. Of course played DA: Veilguard and while there are critiques to be had, there is still so much I love and enjoy about it. In a surprise twist, we also got Life is Strange - Double Exposure with Max this year; again, not a perfect game (some story choices were...interesting and wild to say the least, and I need the next game to see how it all works out), but it was such a joy to play as Max again (a character who still resonates with me).
Other games I enjoyed were Arcade Spirits, Duck Detective - The Secret Salami, Echoes of the Plum Grove, The Oregon Trail, and Supermarket Simulator; with returns to Powerwasher Simulator and Disney Dreamlight Valley. I also finally got my grandfather's old desktop cd-rom drive to work which meant I could play many of my old games. Playing Carmen Sandiego and Jumpstart edutainment, Disney games, Lego Island, Backyard sports, Barbie, and older Sims games as an adult was just delightful nostalgia.

Dec. 2nd: A Metal Christmas Concert
Day 2: Helping each other with Chores/Going to a concert or a play together
Here is day two of @comp-lady’s December writing challenge! It’s the farthest I have ever gotten on a writing prompt challenge so this is a very exciting time. I’m feeling very inspired right now! :) Please leave any critique (in a nice way because I'm sensitive) but I would love feedback to become a better writer. <3
Warnings: Swearing (I think that’s it for this one, if not, let me know?) Word Counts: 1.6k+ Words Pairings: Eddie Munson x Reader
“What do you say about accompanying me to a special event tonight?” Y/n asked as she stopped in front of a certain curly-headed boy’s locker.
“I would love to accompany you to a special event tonight, what’s the occasion?” Eddie responded as he opened his locker to grab his English notebook.
“I have these tickets to a concert tonight for an artist that I know you’d love to see,” Y/n responded to not give any important information away. She reached down, intertwining her hands with Eddie’s pulling him towards Mrs. O’Donnell’s class.
“Fuck yeah baby, do I know them?”
“You definitely know them,” Y/n said, standing on her tiptoes to press a kiss to Eddie’s cheek before finding her desk. “And I think they’re pretty metal.”
“Yeah?” Eddie questioned, his mind feeling fuzzy and his cheeks warming up at her touch. “I can’t wait to see this concert then, baby.”
“Quiet down, students,” Mrs. O’Donnell interrupted. “Take a seat, Mr. Munson, we do not have all day.”
“You got it,” Eddie grumbled before sitting down as y/n giggled beside him.
As the school day finished, Y/n gave Eddie a quick kiss before quickly walking out of the school to get into her car. “Please be at my house by 6, Eds! I just need to get ready!”
“I’ll be there at 5:50, sweets!” Eddie responded as Y/n closed her car door to drive off.
As soon as she got home, Y/n ran up to her bedroom to change for the concert. “Sissy, which dress am I supposed to wear?” A soft voice said from her doorway.
“Give me one second, sweet girl! Let me finish getting dressed and I’ll meet you in your room to help you get your special dress on !”
Y/n dressed quickly and went into the restroom to quickly refresh her makeup from the day. Tonight was her five-year-old sister, Macy’s, Christmas recital. They had been learning Christmas carols and jingles for the past few weeks at school and she knew how excited her sister was for this performance.
“Okay, love bug! Let’s get you dressed,” Y/n said, clapping her hands as she walked into her sister’s room. “Mom is going to meet us at the school so we need to get dressed and eat a snack before we go. And I might also have one surprise for you too if you’re really good!”
“A surprise?! What is it sissy?!”
“Let’s get dressed first! I can’t tell you the surprise because it’s supposed to be a secret, silly goose!”
Y/n walked to her sister’s closet, pulling out a red and green sparkly dress that her Mom bought specifically for this occasion, and Christmas of course. Then, she reached into her sister’s sock drawer to grab the frilly socks to wear under her adorable Mary Jane’s.
“Here you go love bug,” Y/n said, spinning around to her sister. “Let’s get you all dressed up and fed so we can go to your concert!”
“Do you think I could be famous for my concerts one day?” Macy asked. “I want to be a rockstar like Eddie!”
“Macy Mace, I’m sure if you ask the rockstar himself, he might tell you all of his secrets so that you can be a rockstar just like him,” Y/n assured her sister as she got a PB&J ready for her. She was so happy with the fact that her Mom and sister got along with Eddie and they loved him almost as much as she did. As Macy began to munch on her sandwich, they were interrupted by a knock at the door.
“Oh Macy girl, you better get the door, I think it might be your surprise!”
The little girl squealed before dropping her sandwich down on the table and running towards the front door. “Eddieeeee!” She yelled when the door was opened.
“Macy girl!” Eddie responded back just as enthusiastically.
“I missed you so much, do you like my pretty Christmas dress?” Macy asked Eddie as she twirled in front of him.
“You look like a sugarplum fairy, love bug,” Eddie said, his eyes crinkling with a smile as he repeated Y/n’s nickname for her sister.
“Macy Mace, let’s go finish your sandwich so we can go,” Y/n said, leaning on the doorway of the kitchen to watch the interaction unfold.
“Hey baby,” Eddie said, walking towards Y/n as Macy ran back into the kitchen.
“Hi,” Y/n whispered, reaching out to wrap her arms around Eddie before leaning up and giving him a kiss.
“Mm,” Eddie groaned, before breaking the kiss. “Are we dropping your sister off before the show tonight?”
“No baby, she’s coming with us! Ready to head out, love bug?”
“Yes, sissy!”
“Then let’s go, my loves!” Y/n yelled, grabbing her sister’s coat to help her put it on. After Macy was dressed, Y/n put on her own coat and grabbed Eddie’s hand. “Eds, we have to take my car so that Macy has her car seat. I’ll drive there if you drive us back?”
“Of course, baby,” Eddie mumbled, placing a quick peck on Y/n’s lips as he opened her door for her. “I’ll help Mace into her seat if you want to get the car started and warm?”
“Sounds like a plan,” Y/n said, sitting down in the driver’s seat. After Macy was situated and Eddie was in the passenger seat and buckled, Y/n took off down the road towards Hawkins Elementary School where the kindergarten class was set to perform with the rest of the grade school children. Once they were parked, Y/n looked over at Eddie to find a confused look in his eye.
“Why are we at the Elementary School?”
“To see my concert, duh,” Macy responded as she quickly unbuckled herself to get out of the car. “Sissy, let’s go, I have to make it to my classroom right now!”
“Okay, sweetie, let’s go,” Y/n said, unbuckling herself and getting out of the car. “Eds, can you go find three seats? My mom is supposed to meet us here so I promised to save her a seat.”
“Yeah, of course,” Eddie responded, still looking confused.
After dropping Macy off at her class, Y/n walked towards the auditorium to find Eddie. Due to the fact that he was wearing his normal attire of jeans, a Black Sabbath tee, and his Hellfire Club jean jacket, Y/n spotted him right away. “So the metal concert you wanted to take me to is your five-year-old sister’s Christmas program.”
“She promised me that it was a metal performance,” Y/n said, smiling as Eddie wrapped his arm around her.
“I was prepared for some Dio cover band outside of Hawkins, I’m sorry I’m dressed like a freak for this. If I had known, I would dressed more appropriately,” Eddie whispered, his insecurities oozing off of him.
“Baby, no,” Y/n said, turning to look at Eddie. “We don’t want you to change how you look. Macy was so excited for you to be here today. Do you know what she told me before she even knew you were coming? She asked me if I thought she could be famous for her concerts one day like you, Eds. We love you. You’re not a freak, these people just suck. I want you here just the way you are.”
“I love you,” Eddie said, putting his face in the crook of y/n’s neck and holding her tight.
“And I love you,” Y/n echoed, tightening her grip around Eddie.  Before long, Y/n's mom showed up and the lights darkened as the kids walked out on stage to begin singing. 45 minutes later, after each class sang a couple of Christmas carols, the students were escorted off the stage. “Please pick up your students at the classrooms. That ends our Annual Christmas Recital, thank you for coming and please get home safely!”
“Honey, can you and Eddie bring Macy home? I need to go back to the hospital and finish my shift, I should be home around 10 o’clock tonight,” Y/n’s mom said as she began to pass out hugs.
“Of course, Mom,” Y/n responded, grabbing Eddie’s hand as they walked out of the auditorium. Together, they walked down the school’s hallways to Macy’s classroom. As soon as they spotted the door, they could hear the five-year-old shouting.
“No! I’m telling you, it was a metal performance!”
“No, it wasn’t,” One of her classmates responded. “Christmas songs are not metal.”
“Well they won’t be with that attitude,” Macy responded, as she looked over, she spotted her sister and Eddie in the doorway, her eyes lighting up. “Eddie, do you think Christmas songs can be metal?”
“When you perform them, love bug? They’re the most metal songs I’ve ever heard,” Eddie responded as he walked over to Macy and picked her up.
“See, Clara, I told you so,” Macy remarked. “See you later!”
Eddie, with Macy in his arms, walked over to Y/n before putting an arm around her shoulders and leading the crew out of the school and towards Y/n’s car.
“You did an incredible job tonight, little Miss,” Y/n said as she sat in the passenger seat and Edie buckled Macy in.
“Thank you sissy,” Macy said. “Eddie, how many times do I have to perform a concert before I am a rockstar like you?”
“Oh Mace,” Eddie said, his eyes becoming misty as he smiled. “You are already a rockstar, you’re probably a bigger rocker than I am!”
You think so?” Macy squealed. “Do you think I can perform with you, then?”
“I think that can be arranged,” Eddie responded as Y/n took his hand in hers and squeezed it.
“I love you,” Y/n whispered to the boy with shaky breaths beside her his emotions becoming too much.
“And I love you, baby.”
“What about me? I love you sissy and I love you Eddie,” Macy responded, feeling left out as they turned onto Y/n’s driveway.
“And I love you too, Macy girl,” Eddie responded, putting the car in park and turning to look at the five-year-old with soft eyes. “I love you guys so much.”
