How to Wash a Weighted Blanket - Real Simple
Weighted blankets are a great way to improve your sleep and reduce stress, but they require proper care to maintain their quality and effectiveness. Washing a weighted blanket can be a bit tricky due to its weight and size. In this article, we'll walk you through the steps on how to wash a weighted blanket properly.
Check the care label
Before washing your weighted blanket, make sure to check the care label to determine the appropriate washing method. Some blankets may be machine-washable, while others require handwashing or dry cleaning. Follow the care label instructions to avoid damaging the blanket.
Pre-treat any stains
If there are any stains or spots on your weighted blanket, pre-treat them before washing. Apply a small amount of stain remover or laundry detergent directly to the stain and let it sit for a few minutes. Then, use a soft-bristled brush to gently scrub the stain, and rinse it with cold water.
Use a gentle detergent
When washing a weighted blanket, it's essential to use a gentle detergent that won't damage the fabric or affect the weight of the blanket. Avoid using fabric softeners or bleach, as they can damage the fibers and reduce the effectiveness of the blanket. Instead, use a mild detergent that is specifically designed for delicate fabrics.
Wash in a large washing machine
If your weighted blanket is machine-washable, use a large washing machine that can accommodate its weight and size. Make sure to wash the blanket on a gentle cycle with cold water to avoid shrinking or damaging the fabric.
Dry the blanket properly
After washing the blanket, it's crucial to dry it properly to avoid mold and mildew growth. You can air-dry the blanket by laying it flat on a clean surface, or you can tumble dry it on low heat. If you're using a dryer, add a few clean tennis balls or dryer balls to help distribute the weight evenly and fluff the blanket.
Store the blanket properly
Once the blanket is dry, store it in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight. Make sure to avoid folding or compressing the blanket for long periods, as it can affect the weight distribution and reduce its effectiveness. In conclusion, washing a weighted blanket requires a bit of extra care, but it's worth the effort to maintain its quality and effectiveness. By following these steps, you can ensure that your weighted blanket stays clean, comfortable, and long-lasting. Read the full article

Listen. Listen. I know crafting takes an immense amount of time and money, and giving a hand-crafted gift to someone is a huge effort of love.
But you cannot surprise someone with a hand-made gift and then get mad that they weren't appreciative enough. You can't be like "I spent hours on this lovingly-crafted thing that I didn't ask their opinion on, didn't ask if they wanted, that may or may not fit their style, and that has to be hand-washed and they don't even use it!" That's on you at that point! They didn't ask for you to do that! That's just the risk you take with handmade gifts, and why many crafters will not handmake gifts unless they are specifically requested.
#just saw a post complaining that people didn't appreciate their handmade baby blankets#because 'apparently people only want cheap storebought shit that can be machine washed these days!'#really? you can't think of any other reason an overwhelmed and exhausted parent might want a cheap machine washable blanket?#and not something they're expected to treat like an heirloom and lovingly hand-wash every time a baby spits up on it?#it's gotta be that they're just petty consumerists?

Hey y'all! Do you have any recommendations for things to do or not do when sewing clothing? Basically, where to start? I've made doll clothes and a few skirts for my nieces, but I don't wear skirts or dresses and I am doing fine on pajama pants, so I think the like easiest thing for me to start with will be shorts? Probably like quilting cotton, elastic waist super simple ones, I just don't know a good pattern to try and don't know enough about clothing patterns to know how to pick a good pattern
#the person behind the yarn#I mean a couple pairs of like cotton or linen-ish shorts (if I can find any linen) with like patch pockets would be great#but I think my ideal item of clothing would honestly be like just-below-knee length shorts#but the poofy kind? that has like an elastic gather at the bottom?#like somewhere between joggers and ren-faire-ish pants#full range of motion! large pockets! will stay in place when I Move Weirdly as I am apt to do!#those are on my list to make someday#it would also be cool to have a machine washable poofy pirate-y shirt#except I know I strongly dislike wearing long sleeves because I get them caught on things#or inevitably just push them up above my elbows#idk if there's a sleeve equivalent of those just-below-the-knee pants?#those are longer term goals I'm starting more reasonably: shorts

Derailing project of the moment, Project "Nephew's Birthday Gift" is... Technically done. Added side seams, because he's turning four, and pockets, because cool rocks exist.
I also kept the promise of it not taking up much space. It's about the size of a T-shirt, and I'm so very very tempted to just... Buy a T-shirt and play an innocent prank on the birthday boy.
And then the fiber craft demons struck, in the shape of a very charming man in the open air museum doing a demonstration with five dozen cards and sewing thread on a +5m inkle loom, and I decided nephew needs a knighty belt. Because that's what kindergartners care about: handmade decorative techniques that were available to people in the era. It's definitely not just that he wants a dress-up outfit to boink his brother on the butt with a toy sword in.
#nephew's birthday#knightcore#pazyryk kurhan phoenix#phoenix#embroidery#tablet weaving#sewing#all of this is technically machine washable at 30°C#my mom took measurements and they were... odd#so I chickened out on self drafting#this is a free children's winter coverall pattern#minus the sleeves#minus the zipper#with the center seam drawn straight down#and seam allowance added to the fold line#and then you just hem the bottom bits arm holes and neckline#leaving slits at the bottom and the neck#and smack a shield shaped applique on there#i reinforced every slit opening too#the mantra is very much that this is for a small active child#it will get played in#have I ever done tablet weaving before?#nope#that's why the start looks like crap#I'm also too pms-y to focus on the pattern so I am going by vibes#heraldry

a few pics. More coming later once our photographer gets them all prettified and cropped and whatnot
I love this shot my dad got! We had a traditional Klingon ceremony, so you can see our friends and family preparing to beat us with pool noodles (sadly, the venue did not allow us to use real bat’leths or ma’stakas) during our first dance. The faces are blurred for privacy, but everyone is smiling and nobody looks weird!
Non-Homestuck’d guests found alternative ways to participate in the weeblord-dorkhat color theme of the evening. This image was posted to our D&D group chat without comment during dinner and it delighted me
this is not a pic of the wedding but it IS a picture of my wedding dress, which I am putting into the washing machine because it’s machine-washable. this is, to me, an image representing Supreme Victory
#Homestuck wedding#I didn’t actually wash the dress with the towels#it was cold water with like colors#but still: machine-washable wedding dress#with POCKETS

Neighbor kids requested I make them bears to prove that's what was in the boxes they see me carrying, but I only had a little of each of their preferred colors, so I threw together a couple of quick Buddy Bears (my smallest model) and left them to pal around on the kitchen table for the night.
#teddy bears#custom bear#etsy seller#my username is also my etsy shop name#most of my bears are far more elaborate than this#but they just asked for purple and teal#so that's what they got#oh and these bears are machine washable#so there's that

Another donation beanie finished!
#knitting#handmade#beanie#sidewinder beanie#that’s the name of the pattern#I like this yarn because it’s soft enough not to be unpleasant to the touch#thick enough to be warm and work up quickly#and has some wool content so it should retain at least SOME warmth even if it gets wet#but it’s fully machine washable#so it’s my default for donation beanie yarn

I'm remaking this because I prefer to sew the dark blue instead of doing color change but yeah the shape of the top part of the blue nudibranch works 👍
#plus i dropped my poor ladybug in water to confirm that the twisted antenna keep their shape once wet#i want to make all my plushies easily washable so if it can't be thrown in a washing machine I won't make it#it resisted the water test now i have to try actually washing it in the washing machine#next time there's a delicate wash to make I'll drop it there too#but anyway since it at least resists staying in water i can make the nudibranch antenna the same way#the little bush in the back I'll do with chains instead#I'm happy the top works i love these things

nooooooo i just saw your crochet post but was too late, i was gonna say hand wash gently and lay flat and air dry depending on what you made!!! do you remember what type of yarn you used? again i know it's a little late for that but for future reference?
no yeah i got On that dw! she's all good now! Vigorously stretched the coaster and then she spent the night under my special-made crochet press (a heavy book on top of a styrofoam square)
#luckily the other (smaller) coaster didnt shrink but curled out of shape#so i flattened that one back out too#but it makes sense - the soup one was like... idk some sort of natural yarn material???#might've been alpaca???#its from my first two skeins Ever#but the rest of my yarns are acrylic and the like#which is now self-proven to be machine-washable and dryer safe! huzzah!#ill just be sure to make a mental note that my big coaster is Not safe for machines. i respect that about her#rambles from the bog
