i was rewatching mac finds his pride and kept noticing peaches all over his and dennis' apartment

i would love for someone smarter than me to try to explain this because this is clearly intentional. i originally thought they were apples, which would have made more sense with the peeling apples for dennis/original sin/connection to god thing

just watched mac finds his pride for the first time and Um. shaking so hard. he truly did find his pride, on his own terms, for himself huh. it’s not about making anyone else understand but genuinely grasping himself that It’s Okay. even frank said fuck the hijinks for one episode because mac mcdonald deserves to be relieved of his shame for existing. the sin of being born is a heavy burden to carry and now frank gets it yknow?

i can feel a thought forming around dennis not being able to drive the pride float and not being in mac finds his pride altogether. i like to picture him wallowing at home and getting anxiety rage about maybe maybe not being queer and for SURE never being able to be out about it. also jealousy rage about mac being able to figure it out.

All this about Eddie potentially starting fighting again meanwhile I’m thinking that the last time an actor got ripped for a role it ended with an emotionally resonate dance with the character coming to terms with his sexuality

i think that my main qualm with mac finds his pride is not that it isn't funny which. by the way it kills me that they for some godforsaken reason purposefully stripped so much of the comedy out of that episode. peaches. god. but more so that rob mcelhenney CANNOT fucking dance so you have this incredibly talented ballerina quite literally dancing circles around him and for me that kills the whole thematic significance of a DUET. a duet is equal! it’s the melding of two partners together into one performance!!! it’s acceptance and violence and mutual love or obsession or hate all in one!!!! the message they're supposed to be sending is that mac's reconciliation with god and her love and acceptance is a reconciliation of mac’s Self with a Higher Self. but instead because ROB can't dance SHE is the one running his life. GOD is the one dragging poor mac around and yanking him to and fro. and instead of casting god (the conception of her held in mac's mind that is) as a benevolent presence trying to help mac find pride in and accept himself it instead casts her as a gaslighting mother figure which he ALREADY HAS.
