Gilbert

In memory of Minnesota lawmaker Melissa and Mark Hortman, who were senselessly shot and killed inside of their own home by a masked man posing as a police officer on June 14th, 2025. Their beloved golden retriever, Gilbert, was also shot and would pass away two days later. It's sad that we've grown so divided, and what adds to that upset is knowing that innocent people (and animals) are being harmed.

President Biden made the trip to quietly honor those lost and visit the survivors but Trump can't make a fucking phone call.

Minnesota Representative, Hortman and her husband were killed in what is believed to be a targeted act of political violence last night and Senator Hoffman and his wife weren shot multiple times by a man impersonating law enforcement. As of this time Hoffman and his wife are out of surgery and alive.

If you’re local to these affected areas and someone claiming to be police come to your door, it is advisable to dial 911 and confirm with dispatch that they are legitimate officers and not the impersonator.

I don’t know if it’s still happening but Brooklyn police were reported to be moving in pairs to avoid being confused for the impersonator who is as far as we are aware, alone.

Please, please, please if you are going to the protests across Minnesota today, be extra careful of anyone in uniform. Cops are already not our friends, but this is an added layer of unpredictable violence.

Did I miss something, or are political assassinations just... not a point of discussion anymore? Someone gives Trump an impromptu ear piercing - it gets talked about for maybe a day. Multiple Minnesota politicians are attacked, and two killed, by a right-wing Christian extremist. And it seems to get mentioned less than the mayoral race in New York. It's not that I want more sensationalized coverage, but aren't these genuinely shocking events? Just because the political climate makes us less surprised to see violence doesn't make it less of a big-ass deal when it happens. I'm concerned we're shrugging the Overton window along.
