This is a day we all knew was coming. A voice actor on The Simpsons retiring after decades of service to the world of Springfield. Many have unfortunately passed away, but ever since 1989, there’s been a distinctive troupe including, but not limited to, the main 6 voice actors. Pamela Hayden was part of that troupe, and has provided some of the best voice work in the entire show. Jimbo, Todd, and the original Bort. But today, she’s announced her retirement from the show, and that’s a heap of a thing to take in.

35 years of service to a TV institution. That’s a lot, nearly half a human lifetime. But that shows the dedication these voice actors have had to their craft. A lot of people have complained that they’ve gotten too old to voice these characters, which is a valid complaint, but these characters mean just as much to them as they mean to the world. It takes a lot to step down from a perch this high, but I respect Pamela Hayden for finding the right time in her life to move on and live the rest of her life in satisfaction.

So farewell, original voice of Milpool, Thrillho and The Dud. I hope everything’s coming up you.
