I don't care that deadpool and wolverine isn't the next citizen kane because it isn't trying to be. deadpool and wolverine is a movie that is purely wholeheartedly and unabashedly 100% fanservice that literally only got made because hugh jackman thought "I really want to see these two interact" and ryan reynolds said aw hell yes. the plot is secondary; if you go into the movie focusing on story beats and plot holes and camera angles you're not going to enjoy it very much - this was a movie made purely by fans for fans (and i love that hugh jackman and ryan reynolds clearly had as much fun making it as people did watching it!). in an mcu where every show and movie and plotline has to be tied up in some ridiculously epic "saving the world" grand scheme with stakes that they keep trying to make higher and higher each time it is so REFRESHING to see a movie that doesn't bother with all that. deadpool and wolverine came here to HAVE FUN. i'm so glad this movie got made

Something D&W has done, that I don’t think people realise yet, is that it’s reminded its fans that it belongs in a universe beyond the MCU. It belongs to the movies that came before. The stories that came before. The ones that aren’t connected to the Avengers. That every story doesn’t need to be a build up to a mega-climactic Avengers movie. The thing is, that’s how the MCU movies started. That’s why they mattered. Because they were individual stories about a variety of characters and their lives. The fact that it all came together was an amazing bonus but at the crux of it, they were just good stories with great characters. I can only hope that both, Marvel and its fans, realise why we started reading comics in the first place.

got into an argument with my friend about the movie cause they liked it and i. didn't. i feel cursed and im mostly just annoyed that so many of my problems with it are so easily fixable. but alas. there is no space for character arcs or growth. the MCU demands more cameos

Iron man 1 is so good bc it has a really good redemption arch. (Ppl who seriously think he didn't have anything to redeem, you ARE the problem.)

Anyway, yes, it's a really good redemption story, bc how do u redeem a billionaire? And not just any billionaire, a weapons profiteering billionaire. Someone who was dubbed by the media as "The Merchant of Death", how do u redeem such a man? Yes, he's a genius and yes he does charity work and yes he supports women and free sexuality and yes he's hotter than you grandma's traditional bread right out of the oven but to us, regular ppl, he's an arrogant, self centered, slut that has more money, brains and power than God and he's getting ppl killed!

So how do u make a 39 yo white man-child that has been in this business since birth, aware, responsible, and regretful of his actions and shortcomings? It had to be a situation of enough magnitude that affected him so directly that it pulled him right out of the sewers he had been swimming in.

The guilt? The pain? The responsibility? That's all to be expected. It can never go away bc he realized he had affected the world in such a horrible way for such a long time bc he was busy throwing a 2.5 decades long pity party.

The thing that made me fall in love with Tony Stark as a characther was never the comics. And it was certainly not the MCU Elon Musk look alike but with actual scientific knowledge for once.

Stark became a characther I liked because of Earth Mightiest Heros. More specifically the Emperor Stark episode. It starts as a classic mind control episode. Ultron wakes up in a weird world where Tony is a dictator and the Avengers work for him and slowly unconvers the truth about Purple Man mind controlling the team and that he was sleeping for way longer than he thought. He then proceeds to break Purple Man's control and everything ends up fine.

Except by the end of the episode we discover that Purple Man's control only brought to life Tony's darkest desires/feelings and that sometimes Tony's paranoia and egocentrism makes him think that the only way to save and protect people is to assume control of everything but we also learn that while Tony has this thoughs, they are not something he wants, instead they are something that terrifies him. He knows it's wrong and he doesn't really want to do it but he is afraid he could one day. And at that moment he needs Steve to reassure him, to both tell him he won't ever do that and that he will be there if it happens and stop him. And Steve is his close friend and a good leader in EMH so he does that.

This episode for me was what consolidated my image of Tony. The version of Tony we sometimes have in comics and never had in the MCU (I actually hate MCU Tony for soo many reasons). For me Tony Stark is a man with low empathy, someone whose anxiety and paranoia and the god complex that appears sometimes (in contrast with his usual self loathing) are all a reciepe for disaster, he is someone that by all means should be a villain except he WANTS to do good. He wants to help people even if he doesn't always get it. He likes to see people happy and well and wants to make a better world. The Tony Stark I love is a man that is always fighting against himself, forcing himself to give a shit. Because he loves the world, he just doesn't always feels how to express this love. And as someone who sometimes struggles with bolts of lower empathy because the autism (though never even close to Tony's level) this is quite inspiring. He isn't a self made hero because he built the armor in a cave with trash but because he is always trying to be a hero no matter what his paranoid brain tells him.

That's why I see this Tony. EMH Tony and my interpretation of comic Tony not realizing his weapons were used to cause mass destruction more favoraubly than MCU Tony. Both because age issues kindda made him younger but mostly because there's this underlying notion that he didn't noticed it before because he just didn't care enought to notice and that the realization he had was not just "seeling weapons is wrong" but that he needed to care more. That he couldn't just keep ignoring reality just because it wasn't almost killing him.

Hi, I wanna apologize for being a random just coming into your asks, but I saw your post about the development of female characters and it sucks how the most popular have no real development, but the C-listers (like Gamora and Nebula) do. I’ve thought a lot about how I’d handle Wanda post multiverse of madness or how I’d change Secret Invasion so we can actually develop Maria where she can have an actual character arc and it irks me how they don’t think of this. Especially Hill, like Secret Invasion could’ve made a wonderful spy thriller with Hill in the center and we see the affect of being loyal to Fury for this long.

no you’re totally fine! but yeah, i think there are too many eggs in one basket right now in marvel, and a lot of the attention is solely on the expansion and development of male characters. i also just hate how when there is attention on female characters it’s because they’re traumatized/grieving (that being sad i am glad we got to see clint’s grief in hawkeye, it made natasha’s death feel more impactful in a way). but i’m gonna be so honest and say i still haven’t seen secret invasion, i refuse to subject myself to maria hill dying, she’s still alive in my head and in my heart.
