Ornate writing that's not pretty prose
We've all been adviced against using purple prose or pretty prose in our writing, and I do go by that statement- pretty prose is like studding a frying pan with rhinestones. Sure you might've bedazzled it but it's deprived of its functionality.
Pretty prose distracts the reader from the soul of your book.
But that does not mean your writing can't be lyrical or descriptive. There's a fine line between lyrical writing and purple prose. But there are simple ways to enhance your description and prose without it being overly decorated and distracting.
TIPS TO WRITE LYRICALLY WITHOUT IT BEING PURPLE
Be a chef with words : for enhancing description, you don't have to use words that only an oxford graduate will understand. Instead be creative with your combination of words. For instance, when writing the description of a sunlight, instead of using adjectives like bright, shiney, golden etc try to use words which you won't at first think of using in this scenario - like strands of sunlight, or splatter of sunlight
Pay attention to the when's and where's: it's important to pay attention to where you want to elaborate and where you want to keep it simple. You probably shouldn't be describing that park bench that your characters will sit in once and never visit again. But you might want to describe it if that park bench is where the story takes place - if it has emotional significance to the story or the description is necessary to the plot. Don't go elaborating the setting in the middle of an action scene. But if it's your characters just entered a misty forest that's about to change their lives - go ahead. Use all your creative energy.
Describe feelings rather than appearance : you can write prettily when describing how your character is feeling rather than how your character or their surroundings look. Say your characters depression is like being trapped in a tangle of ivy, or how your character feel like they inhaled stardust when they see their loved one. Concentrate on their feelings.

I’ve finally moved into myself fully, After living out of labeled boxes for what seems like my lifetime. Things are finally arranged just so, and designed to suit only me. My blueprint is beautiful.
I keep all of my knowledge and wisdom out front where everyone can see it. It distracts from the leftover sadness and uncertainty that I haven’t put into storage yet. Each emotion is neatly organized in their own order so as to be easily accessible:
-Love has claimed the largest space and tends to spread out, but no one complains. -Joy bubbles up from the basement to say hello at least once a day. She generally finds worry, sadness and uncertainty ganging up again and making a mess in the attic. -Hope doesn’t mind staying on the shelf until she’s needed; which is more and more often. -And happiness has her own room but always leaves the door open. -Fear lives out back and sometimes wakes me up at night. We’re working on that. -My rage is always right where I left it, and it’s too big to move so I’m waiting until I have help.
I decorate with my dreams, which are proudly displayed on the walls, And music accompanies everything. Inside jokes abound since laughter serves as the diffuser to keep the air fresh. I still have a junk drawer that serves as a catch-all for my fleeting thoughts and partial memories, but make no mistake, I’m always down for a dump run.
I’m liberal with the Do Not Disturb sign so if you’re invited in you know you’re welcome. Very few stay the night though. It’s not that I don’t want connection, It’s just I now know what it really looks and feels like, And I won’t sacrifice sleep for a substitute.
I maintain my garden for myself, Not the neighbors. And I always leave a light on, In case I lose myself again.
Welcome Home
-Lainey

this hits hard in a tender, tender spot of my heart
"I would kill for you. I would die for you" would you take a break for me? Would you sit down and rest? For a day, a week, a year? Would you let others take care of your needs for me? Would you let yourself be held for me? By me?

Solipsism
A man breathes his last and as the light in his eyes disappears, an explosion occurs in his mind. An explosion that is as sudden and quiet and unseen as the one that brought him here in the first place. His head crumbles to dust that is not dust, his fingers turn to fountains of sand that is not sand, the bird whose chirrup he had registered subconsciously never finishes it. The butterflies outside turn to sand in the wind, the wind turns to sand, the waterfalls pour out sand, sand that is not sand but aptly describes the feeling of crumbling. The earth caves in on itself and disappeares. As do the stars and the planets the man had known of, imagined them to be hung somewhere in the sky. The space between them crumbles and warps then disappears. The world is gone as if it hadn't really been. And had it ever?
The man leaves and takes the world with him. Returns it to its primordial state or something older than primordial. Something so far off in the past it doesnt exist yet or so far off in the future it has ceased to exist. It doesn't really matter since time doesn't exist. There is no space or time nor will there be, there is no will, there is no is.
In another world, a wife sits beside a hospital bed and weeps, the bird finishes its chirrup and the gust of wind blows through her hair and flutters the yellow flowers with its 'Get Well Soon' card on the cabinet.
She wishes for him to be back but the dead can't be brought back. You need to create a whole world for that.

DEVASTATING the lyric you've been mishearing is better than the real one
#i've been listening to icarus by bastille#and for some reason my brain fills in 'this is how it feels to take a fall' as 'this is how it feels to take off all your skin'#and like fuck man#and I KNOW that’s technically not a misheard lyric but my post my rules cope#anyway my line now#also probably phrased this poorly but its ok#im allowed to be incomprehensible#as a treat#and then fuckin#from we sink by of monsters and men#the original line was 'please look away dont look at me'#and i kept hearing it as 'please learn a way to look at me'#anyway#shoving this post in the queue but please be aware that i am writing it very late at night#q
