Hoyo playing into a character's evilness and not downplaying it is so refreshing and I will forever love that. And NO I'm not condoning her behavior.

Jade is selfish, manipulative and downright sinister. It plays well into the symbolism of her representing the snake that tempts Eve. She is sin itself and it works so well.

I really hope hoyo doesn't give her a sob story. But it also makes sense for her to have a complicated past since she is a multifaceted character. Idk I just hope the story does her justice.

because by the way, guys: 4% of the people who read this fic reblogging or commenting is crazy. don’t get me wrong, i appreciate the likes, but as writers try time and time again to say, it’s much more meaningful to reblog (and/or comment)

i feel like the whole point of engaging with other fans is to… engage with them. i appreciate liking more than the silent readers, obviously, but you know what’s 100x better and actually fun? getting to talk to the people who read something i wrote. being on the site that is pretty much synonymous with fan content at this point and having 4% of the people who’ve interacted actually share with me or others that they liked it is disheartening.

call me ungrateful if you want, but ask anyone who’s been on this site for more than 5 years: it didn’t use to be like this. i miss being able to interact with readers

i get more interaction on dumbass shitposts from mutuals who don’t read all my content bc it’s not for them or not in their fandom, and you know who i appreciate a million times more than the silent likers? the folks who don’t even read my shit to begin with but comment on things! because we’re talking and having fun!

I'm still getting the original experience because none of the mods I have drastically change gameplay.

The only mods I have that change gameplay are skull cavern elevators (I don't play Stardew for the combat) and No Fishing Minigame (It makes me frustrated and is why I stopped playing a few years ago).

I watched something that was apparently about asking for consent and now I need to rant.

When someone asks for consent (ie. "Can I...?") or says they won't do anything until the other person gives permission, that is not something that happens once and then it lasts until the end of time no matter what.

If someone says "please don't say no" or "please say yes", that, for me, automatically erases the consent. They are basically low-key manipulating the other person into agreeing, which is NOT consent. They are playing with the other person's feelings, especially if they already have some sort of relationship. They are using their own preferences and needs to "gently" guide the other person to agree to something, regardless of how the person actually feels.

There are many layers to consent, and when it's not between complete strangers, people are not as free as we think to just say no. There is the fear of upsetting the other person. The fear of not doing what "you're supposed to do". Those fears - which because of the way we are socialised, certain genders and groups of people are more susceptible to - make it already hard to say no. Which means, they are making it hard to be in a situation where consent can be given freely and truthfully.

If you add that layer of "please don't say no" or "please say yes", you're basically making it almost impossible for the person to reject you, regardless of how they truly feel.

I know in fiction those types of sentences are considered "enjoyable", because when we imagine the person we like saying them to us, it sounds like they are proving to us how much they want us. And we all want to feel wanted. The problem is, what happens when we do like that person, but we don't want to do anything with them? That feels like emotional blackmailing.

And let's not even talk about the possibility of those sentences being said by someone we like, but not in that way.

Anyway, all this is to say asking for consent is only real when you communicate to the other person that there won't be any consequences whatsoever if they say no. So anything that is actually blocking a way out of that situation, is NOT asking for consent. It is just manipulation.
