Caught between the Scylla and Charybdis
She is the Daughter of Typhon and Echidna. Beautiful Nymph child of the Gods, Scylla. Scylla who witnessed her children perish as a result of Hera's jealousy, went violently insane and began to devour infant children whom she tore from their mother's arms. Zeus, in his sadness, placed her within a deep sleep beneath the sea, which was broken by Poseidon who was taken with her beauty. This inspired the jealousy of Amphitrite who turned to Circe for vengeance. Circe then placed magic herbs into a pool where Scylla bathed and up sprang six necks from her back, surmounted by six monstrous heads each supplied with a triple row of teeth. From waist down great gaping mouths and tentacles had grown as her entire form grew to enormous size. She sought refuge in the sea, lurking in a hollowed cliff, attacking and devouring any who pass.
Homer tells us of the great whirlpool: 'Divine Charybdis with a terrible roar swallows the waves of the bitter sea and three times each day she throws them up again.' No vessel could boast of escaping Scylla or Charybdis without loss.
Witness Brave Odysseus and his loyal crew as they navigate these twin terrors through the straights of Sicily on their epic journey home to Ithaca.

Santiago Caruso is a dark symbolist artist with an attraction to the surreal and macabre. Born in 1982, in Quilmes, Argentina Caruso's avant-garde concepts are rooted in decadentism and dark symbolism. Caruso's techniques range from tempera and ink on paper to scratched mixed media pieces on cardboard. Working on book illustrations and music albums Caruso's art often has a highly narrative approach that makes viewing it an almost investigative process. Interview ℹ️

Bruce Pennington (born 10 May 1944, Somerset, England) is a British painter, perhaps best known for his science fiction and fantasy novel cover art. Pennington's works have largely featured on the covers of novels of Isaac Asimov, Clark Ashton Smith and Robert A. Heinlein, adopting both science fiction and fantastical themes. Pennington's past of speculation and youthful wonderment lead to his current outlandish form and style.[citation needed] Pennington's works are largely characterised by bold, daring colours; rich pinks and blues sustaining his continuing motifs of speculation as well as precise brush strokes, harmonious pigment blending as well as the acute concentration in the detail of his depicted subjects, usually landscapes of other times or worlds.[citation needed] Pennington, earlier disenchanted with traditional art methods, pursued his youthful fascination with that of the imagined and speculated.[citation needed] Works include 'Impossible Possibilities' and 'A Canticle for Leibowitz'. Pennington attended the Ravensbourne School of Art in Bromley during the early 1960s. He began working as a freelance illustrator in 1967. In 1976, Paper Tiger Books published an LP-sized graphic album, Eschatus, featuring Pennington's paintings inspired by the prophecies of Nostradamus. They followed this, in 1991, with a graphic album, Ultraterranium, collecting various private and commercial works.
