Sometimes I forget that when non-Irish people read Irish place-names as Gaeilge, the pronunciation doesn't...quite match the actual one. I've had some wonderful experiences of:

Port Large (port lairge)

Done na na Gaul (dún na ngall)

I love irish

Sometimes I realise that to non-Irish people TG4 is not inherently Irish and they’d pronounce it T-G-four. Which is so wrong it makes my brain hurt.

Graphics:

I attended Fridays Type & Image workshop. We were given an introduction to Photoshop, particularly looking at how to manipulate images and use type. It took a bit of getting used to working on a Macbook, but it got easier the more I used it.

We were given a brief of re-designing an album cover while working our movement project into it.

This below was my first draft.

I featured a live hand. This is from a photograph I captured. At first I thought that there was nothing to work with, but when I went to working, I found that isolating the hand itself makes it really powerful. It's such a simple thing, but it translates quite well I think.

For my background I featured a textured skin like image, and edited that. I really like the contrast of the the background and the foreground.

I chose Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathy as my album of choice, as I really love their music. The artwork for the bands album actually features a hand.

The Neuter Noun and its Repercussions

When the neuter gender dropped out of the language, words were reassigned to masculine and feminine, which resulted in a few words having different gender in different regions. 

In Placenames

The old Irish neuter noun caused an eclipsis (or its equivalent today), and evidence of the neuter gender can still be found in certain placenames:

Modern Irish Magh-Breagh (Modern day Meath, Louth and Dublin) was Mag-mBreg

Dadreen in Galway translates to d�� dtriain, or two thirds. What should stick out to you is that in Modern Irish, dhá thrian is used.

If the word following a neuter noun begins with a vowel, the letter n is prefixed to the vowel.
