By the Autumn of 1918, it had become clear that Germany was losing the World War. In a last ditch effort, the German High Command prepared a final offensive. Unwilling to continue risking their lives for a losing cause, sailors in Kiel mutinied in early November. The uprising spread like wildfire, igniting the German Revolution. In the German state of Bavaria, after a long struggle, workers declared a Council Republic, under the leadership of communists and anarchists. The Bavarian Soviet Republic did not last long, but it was one of the highest peaks in the wave of revolutions that followed the World War. In the end, all of the forces of the old Europe, Social Democracy, pre-fascist freikorps, and the military, entered into a holy alliance to exorcise this specter. In the suppression of the Council Republic, the nucleus of German fascism was developed.

On November 7, 1918, the Bavarian workers, farmers, and soldiers expelled King Ludwig III, thereby ending the 738-year-old reign of the Wittelsbach Dynasty over Bavaria. That day, sixty thousand people gathered at Munich’s Theresienwiese for a demonstration against the war. At the rally, two factions of Social Democracy faced each other.

In opposition to the complacency of Social Democratic Party of Germany (SPD) towards the First World War, the left wing of the party had split from the majority, forming the Independent Social Democratic Party (USPD). The SPD’s Erhard Auer called for peace and reforms, including the eight-hour day. Kurt Eisner, a journalist and leading figure in the USPD, on the other hand, argued that only revolution could bring a lasting peace, that the king and emperor must be deposed in favor of a people’s democracy, and that extensive social reforms were only possible as part of the march towards socialism. Anarchists were also among the crowd, including the famous author Erich Mühsam, one of the main protagonists of the revolutionary left in Munich at the time. As the revolution unfolded, the tension between these three poles defined much of the drama.

Praseodymium always occurs naturally together with the other rare-earth metals. It is the fourth most common rare-earth element, making up 9.1 parts per million of the Earth's crust, an abundance similar to that of boron. In 1841, Swedish chemist Carl Gustav Mosander extracted a rare-earth oxide residue he called didymium from a residue he called "lanthana", in turn separated from cerium salts. In 1885, the Austrian chemist Baron Carl Auer von Welsbach separated didymium into two elements that gave salts of different colours, which he named praseodymium and neodymium. The first enduring commercial use of purified praseodymium, which continues today, is in the form of a yellow-orange "Praseodymium Yellow" stain for ceramics, which is a solid solution in the zircon lattice. This stain has no hint of green in it; by contrast, at sufficiently high loadings, praseodymium glass is distinctly green rather than pure yellow.

Nicolai Sylvest (21/DK) und Jens Klingmann (28/Trägerwilen, beide MRS GT-Racing) setzten sich auf dem Red Bull Ring in Österreich mit ihrem BMW mit lediglich 0,289 Sekunden Vorsprung knapp gegen die Corvette-Fahrer Sven Barth (38/Eberbach) und David Jahn (28/Leipzig, beide RWT Racing) durch. Rang drei ging an das Porsche-Duo Klaus Bachler (27/A) und Timo Bernhard (38/Homburg/Saar, beide Küs Team75 Bernhard). “Es war am Ende wirklich eng”, sagte Sieger Klingmann nach seinem ersten ADAC GT Masters-Sieg seit 2015. “Ich war froh, dass das Rennen nicht noch länger gedauert hat. Nach unserem Pech in den vergangenen Rennen haben wir den Sieg wirklich verdient.”

Enger Kampf zwischen BMW, Corvette und Porsche

Der erste Sieg von BMW seit dem Saisonstart 2017 war hart erkämpft. Pole-Setter Sylvest verteidigte beim Start mit dem M6 GT3 seine Spitzenposition. Danach setzte sich der Däne leicht von Klaus Bachler im Porsche ab, der sich vom vierten Startplatz auf Rang zwei verbessert hatte. Bis zu den Pflichtboxenstopps pendelte sich der Vorsprung der beiden Erstplatzierten bei rund 1,2 Sekunden ein. Sylvests Partner Jens Klingmann baute danach ihn danach zwischenzeitlich bis auf zwei Sekunden aus, doch in der Schlussviertelstunde kam Corvette-Pilot David Jahn immer näher und setzte den BMW-Mann unter Druck. Jahn hatte beim Pflichtboxenstopp den US-Sportwagen auf Platz drei liegend von Sven Barth übernommen und direkt danach Timo Bernhard, der von Klaus Bachler übernommen hatte, von Position zwei verdrängt. Anschließend verringerte der Corvette-Pilot seinen Rückstand auf den Führenden stetig und lag in der Schlussphase direkt hinter dem BMW. Klingmann behielt jedoch die Nerven und verteidigte die Spitzenposition. Nach 40 Runden sah er schließlich mit 0,289 Sekunden Vorsprung als Erster die Zielflagge.

Während Klingmann seinen insgesamt neunten Sieg im ADAC GT Masters holte – seinen ersten seit Zandvoort 2015 -, war es für Teamkollege Sylvest der erste überhaupt. Sylvest gewann zudem die Pirelli-Junior-Wertung. Für MRS GT-Racing ging mit dem Triumph eine neunjährige Durststrecke zu Ende. 2011 gewann die Mannschaft aus Lonsee das allererste Rennen der “Liga der Supersportwagen” überhaupt auf dem Red Bull Ring, damals mit einem Porsche.

Barth und Jahn holten in ihrer unter österreichischer Flagge startenden Corvette als Zweite ihr bisher bestes Saisonresultat, für Barth bedeutet dies gleichzeitig den bereits dritten Sieg in der Pirelli-Trophy-Wertung der Saison. Lokalmatador Klaus Bachler und Teamkollege Timo Bernhard durften sich als Dritte über ihren ersten Podestplatz des Jahres freuen. Patric Niederhauser (27/CH) und Kelvin van der Linde (22/ZA, beide HCB-Rutronik Racing) holten, nachdem sie vom zweiten Startplatz ins Rennen gegangen waren, zwar nur die vierte Position, verteidigten aber als bestplatzierte Audi-Piloten die Tabellenführung. Markus Pommer (28/Neckarsulm) und Marvin Kirchhöfer (25/Luzern, beide Callaway Competition) vervollständigten mit ihrer Corvette C7 GT3-R die Top fünf.

Die sechste Position ging an den Audi R8 LMS von Max Hofer (20/A) und Christopher Mies (30/Heiligenhaus, beide Montaplast by Land-Motorsport) vor dem Porsche 911 GT3 R von Titelverteidiger Robert Renauer (34/Jedenhofen) und Thomas Preining (20/A, beide Precote Herberth Motorsport), die im Qualifying nur auf Rang 16 gefahren waren. Lucas Auer (24/A) kam zusammen mit Jimmy Eriksson (28/S, beide Team Zakspeed BKK Mobil Oil Racing) beim Gaststart auf seiner Heimstrecke als Achter ins Ziel.

Jeffrey Schmidt (25/CH) und Christopher Haase (31/Kulmbach, beide BWT Mücke Motorsport) machten mit ihrem Audi insgesamt zehn Plätze gut und wurden Neunte, dahinter kam der der HB-Racing-Ferrari 488 GT3 von Luca Ludwig (30/Alfter) und Sebastian Asch (33/Ammerbuch) ins Ziel.

Stimmen der Sieger:

Nicolai Sylvest (MRS GT-Racing, BMW M6 GT3): “Ich bin natürlich superbegeistert, was wir zusammen – Jens, das Team und ich – erreicht haben. Ich bin schon etwas sprachlos. Mein Start war gut. Danach war es schwierig, den Abstand zum Porsche auf Platz zwei zu halten. Ich wusste, wenn ich einen Fehler mache, ist der Porsche da. Jens hat in der Schlussphase einen tollen Job gemacht. Er hatte viel Druck von der Corvette. Ich war in der Box meganervös, aber wir hatten großes Vertrauen in Jens und er hat den Sieg ins Ziel gebracht.”

Jens Klingmann (MRS GT-Racing, BMW M6 GT3): “Das Qualifying und der Start von Nicolai waren die Grundlagen für unseren Erfolg. Als ich nach dem Fahrerwechsel gesehen habe, dass die Corvette auf Platz zwei liegt, habe ich schon gedacht, dass es eng werden könnte. Denn sie hat einen guten Topspeed, was hier sehr wichtig ist. Ich habe versucht, den Vorsprung zu managen, doch dann hat David Jahn Zehntel für Zehntel den Rückstand verringert. Als er in den letzten 15 Minuten an mir dran war, war jede Runde wie im Qualifying. Es war wirklich eng. Ich bin froh, dass das Rennen nur eine Stunde gedauert hat. Ich denke, den Sieg haben wir verdient, vor allem nach Most, wo wir lange auf Platz drei lagen, aber zurückgefallen sind. Das Team hat hart für den Erfolg gearbeitet.”

A leghíresebb, az 1944-es von Stauffenberg-féle Hitler elleni merényletről sokan hallottak, arról azonban keveseknek van tudomása, hogy valójában lényegesen több alkalommal próbálkoztak a Führer likvidálásával. Egy német szakértő szerint legalább 42-szer. A komolyabbakból szemezgettünk.

Hitler élete először akkor volt veszélyben (ha nem vesszük figyelembe az első világháborúban való részvételét), amikor egy novemberi napon 1921-ben beszédet mondott a Hofbräuhaus sörcsarnokban körülbelül háromszáz, különböző politikai beállítottságú ember előtt. Az Erhard Auer – a birodalmi gyűlés szociáldemokrata képviselője – elleni kemény támadásokkal felfordulást váltott ki, aminek következtében a jelenlévők söröskancsókkal kezdték dobálni egymást, majd utcai verekedés alakult ki a „barnaingesek” és a többiek között. Eközben leadtak néhány lövést Hitlerre, de azok célt tévesztettek. Állítólag Hitler viszonozta a lövéseket.

A pártvezető 1923-ban kétszer is közel került a halálhoz. Az első eset Türingiában történt, ekkor két ismeretlen lőtt rá, második alkalommal pedig, miközben mozgó autójában ült, egy merénylő próbált vele végezni. 1929-ben egy, a Führertől lélekben eltávolodott SS-tag helyezett bombát a szónoki emelvény alá. Hitler, mielőtt beszélni kezdett volna, kiment a WC-be, ahol szerencséjére véletlenül rázáródott az ajtó, bennragadt, s „lekéste” a robbanást.

A náci párt felemelkedésével párhuzamosan a Hitler elleni merényletkísérletek száma is megnövekedett. A Franciaországba emigrált, kommunistává lett volt náci, Ludwig Assner 1932. február 9-én küldött Hitler címére egy levelet, amelyet lefoglaltak és a laboratóriumban kimutatták, hogy „méreganyagot tartalmaz.” Hitlert annak az iskolának az igazgatója figyelmeztette Assner gyilkos szándékára, ahol a merénylő is dolgozott és nyilvánosság előtt kijelentette, hogy Hitlert – mint veszélyes őrültet – el kell tenni láb alól.

Merénylőjelöltek nemcsak baloldalon akadtak, hanem a Führer közvetlen közelében is, ahogy a Berchtesgadenbe vezető úton történt gyilkossági kísérlet esetén is. E Hitler elleni akció főszereplője ezúttal egy bizonyos Heinrich Grunow volt, aki korábban tagja volt a Führer testőrségének az alpesi Berchtesgadenben. Grunow állítólag nem tudott szemet hunyni afelett, hogy az általa csodált Ernst Röhmöt 1934 nyarán, a hosszú kések éjszakáján Bad Wiessee-ben több szimpatizánsával együtt Hitler parancsára meggyilkolták. Röhm, a náci párt és az SA egyik alapítója összekülönbözött Hitlerrel, mivel az SA-t a fegyveres erők magjává akarta alakítani és ez alá rendelni a német véderőt.

Hôtel de Crillon Reopens Today

Nach einer vierjährigen Schließung für Renovierungen eröffnet das Hôtel de Crillon in Paris heute wieder.

Die historische Stätte am Place de la Concorde wurde 1758 für König Ludwig XV. Von dem französischen Architekten Ange-Jacques Gabriel erbaut. Anscheinend nahm Marie Antoinette an einem Punkt Klavierunterricht in der Villa. Der Graf von Crillon kaufte das Gebäude im Jahre 1788 und Mitglieder der Familie Crillon lebten im Haus bis 1904. Es wurde 1906 erworben und verwandelte sich in das luxuriöse Crillon Hotel, das 1909 eröffnete und einige berühmte Gäste im Laufe der Jahre ohne Luft sah Konditionierung

Die Gäste des neu renovierten Hôtel de Crillon genießen nicht nur eine zentrale Klimaanlage, sondern auch einen Wellnessbereich, einen Friseursalon, eine Herrenpflege und einen Swimmingpool sowie zahlreiche Restaurants und Bars. Das Hotel und 124 Zimmer und 43 Suiten wurden zeitgenössische Architekten und Designer wie Karl Lagerfeld, Richard Martinet, Aline d’Amman, Tristan Auer, Chahan Minassian und Cyril Vergniol entworfen. Der legendäre Landschaftsgärtner Louis Benech wurde mit den Außenbereichen beauftragt. Der Plan war, das Hotel aufzuhellen, aber den Geist der Architektur des 18. Jahrhunderts zu bewahren.

Jetzt, da alle bisher geschlossenen Hotels renoviert und wiedereröffnet wurden, kann ich es kaum erwarten, nach Paris zurückzukehren, um sie alle zu erleben.

Gertrude Richter aus Stephanshart – Mesnerholzstraße –  feiert ihren 90. Geburtstag und dazu konnte ich kürzlich gemeinsam mit Pfarrer Mag. Gerhard Gruber und Ortsvorsteher Ludwig Auer gratulieren. Und gemeinsam konnten wir der Jubilarin und ihrem Mann Ludwig Richter auch bereits die besten Wünsche für die bevorstehende eiserne Hochzeit überbringen. 65 Jahre werden es dann im Mai sein – so lange…
