I bought Lucas Peinador’s brushes a couple months ago, so I tried drawing one of my favorite manga shots of Izutsumi for practice

not to be a massive fucking hater or anything but any digital artist who has built their entire career on drawing big eyed small nosed pale faced cartoon versions of instagram models with triangle tits and arms like twigs is a fucking hack and actual blight on the digital art world

Blaming @theletteraesc for inspiring me to draw Gale in a suit 🤣
A couple of doodles to test out some of the brushes from Lucas Peinador's Inking set! I've been really enjoying the texture on these 😁

Discovered a new brush on accident and I’m obsessed with it
Brush: LP 2B from Lucas Peinador’s brush pack
[ Image description: black and white Digital sketch of Lilith Clawthorne from the owl house. White background . We look at her from the front, her face in 3/4 view looking to her left. She has her long black hair with a white streak. She wears a summer hat, round glasses, and a summer dress with no sleeves. On her right arm is a purse. She has her left hand lightly raised, and points with her slender finger. She's wearing black rings on her pointer fingers, black bracelets on both wrists, and one small Earring on her right ear. She has freckles over her arms and neck. End description. ]

Heya, found your art through that Primal piece you did a while back, and I wanted to say you’re an amazing artist/animator, and was hoping you could answer some questions from an aspiring artist/fight animator (Like Lego Monkie Kid level of awesome is my goal if you know that show). And the questions are: How'd you learn to draw/animate so well? Do you know any good online resources to help someone progressively better at art? Anything you wish you knew before starting your art journey?
I really like that Primal piece, I made it to be my computer's desktop background. 🌌 I'll try to answer the questions as best I can and be quick.
Tumblr media
How'd you learn to draw/animate so well?
Practice. Always made art for as long as I was aware? Then I went to college, studied very very very hard and I managed to get my degree in animation (minored in painting). Then I had to re-train myself because the software evolved really quickly so it's a never ending journey of learning. 📚
Tumblr media
Do you know any good online resources to help someone progressively better at art?
I can only speak on the animation (and painting) side of things, but the best resource to get started with learning animation is this one book; Richard Williams-The Animator's Survival Kit. It goes over the main principles, has illustrative guides, it's just extremely concise. I have not come across another animation book that even compares.
Tumblr media
As for other online learning stuff, I think you can find many people willing to share what they know on YouTube? I'm always looking at what people put out there to see if it works for my needs. There are too many channels to list, but here are my top five I've been following and learning from recently. Specifically in regards to brushing up on ToonBoom, After Effects, and digital art.
Tumblr media
ToonBoom: ZeBirdBrain & Drawn Sean
AE: Ben Marriot
Digital Art: Lucas Peinador & Marc Brunet (I bought their brushes. Using Lucas' right now ☝️)
Anything you wish you knew before starting your art journey?
No advice would have helped; I started when I was like five or younger. Nothing would have stuck in that baby brain. 🖍

Victoria waits. Eager to begin again, at last.
Someone tell Andy I’m still thinking about her everyday.

Also I bought Lucas Peinador’s brushes and textures, and they helped this one get much closer to the image in my head.

youve probably been getting tons of asks but what programs/brushes do you use? the textures in your art are GORGEOUS
I don't mind at all, feel free to ask whenever! (´▽`ʃ♡ƪ) I mostly use the famous round brush and the pen brush, what this one does is that it leaves very pixelated edges instead of the default brush that tries to smooth the edges so that it seems very clean to the eye. There are a few other brushes with textures that I use mostly because they are very fun, but not needed, I got them from Lucas Peinador free brushes pack!

What brushes and program do you happen to use? I love the textured look!
Sorry I didn't answer this sooner - being completely honest i was busy when I got this and forgot to respond, but hope this still proves useful! That said, I use brushes from Retro Supply Co., True Grit Texture Supply, and Lucas Peinador! Mainly I use their respective Nib / Ink packs interchangibly, and halftones as well! I normally mix and match from each store so its not explicitly one single thing - that said I also use their paper textures and brush-on textures too! If you're strapped for cash and cant invest in too much, I'd recommend to wait for a sale or look into bundling for any of those three I mentioned, as they do get generous sales in every now and then. I am not sponsored at all by any of those three, just speaking for quality when I can! As for program, I almost entirely use Clip Studio Paint with a lot of layer modes (mainly Multiply) and masking. Sometimes for pieces with a lot of text, I use Adobe Illustrator since I get it free with my school tuition! That said, I would never support unofficial downloading by providing a good comprehensive guide to keeping safe on the high seas, of course, so if you would like a relatively good vector-based editing suite that is a one time payment and is similar to illustrator, I heard Affinity is good too! Hope this helps!

What's your favorite program and brushes to use?
I use Photoshop as my art program. I also use Lazy Nezumi as an extension to play with smoothing.
As far as brush packs, I LOVE Maddy Bellwoar's brushes: https://www.behance.net/gallery/135834285/Childrens-Illustration-Brushes-Photoshop-Procreate?locale=en_US
They just have this...TEXTURE, ya know?
I also use a lot of Kyle T Webster's brushes for inking--namely the ones from the Manga Set. If you already have an Adobe Photoshop subscription, you can get all his brushes for free with that by going to the gear icon at the top right corner of the brushes dropdown and Photoshop, and at the dropdown from that, go to the Get More Brushes tab and it'll take you right to the Kyle T Webster brushes page on Adobe's website!
I also frequently use the HB Pencil from Macalabs' sketching brush pack: https://cubebrush.co/macalabs/products/trita/macalabs_sketching-photoshop-brushes
And I'd be remiss if I didn't mention these: https://shop.lucaspeinador.com/products/lp-inking-brushes I LOVE using these for Botmom inking. Again, the texture is just OOMF! So good. Lucas Peinador also has a free sampler on his website there that I use a lot too.
The final resource I'd like to recommend is Loish's Patreon. She has the most in-depth tutorials I've ever seen. I'm learning new things from her process breakdowns all the time. https://www.patreon.com/loish/posts
