Grito con Los Tigres del Norte, el concierto más caro en el Zócalo de la CDMX

El 2022 es el año en que el Gobierno de la Ciudad de México, encabezado por Claudia Sheinbaum, apostó por los conciertos y festivales en el Zócalo capitalino al destinar 50 millones 447,995 pesos en ellos, de los cuales 41 millones 586,344 pesos fueron solo para eventos musicales. En el gobierno de Sheinbaum se ha incrementado los recursos para espectáculos en el Zócalo aunque en su mayoría fueron festivales y fue a partir de 2022 en que comenzaron los conciertos de artistas nacionales e internacionales. El evento más costoso, según información disponible en plataforma de transparencia, ha sido el de los Tigres del Norte al que se destinaron 23 millones 86,795 pesos, la mitad del gasto total en los conciertos.

Paving the Way a Million Miles at a Time

In the film, A Million Miles Away (2023), director Alejandra Marquez Abella, from San Luis Potosi, Mexico, tells the story of Jose M Hernandez and how his goal of becoming an astronaut became his reality through hard work and tremendous sacrifices. In telling the story, she uses techniques that are not commonly seen in films such as the warping of some scenes to express defeat, but not surrender, and the use of different camera quality for memorable scenes and the passing of time, such as the scene where Jose and Adela, his partner, are married and later start their family—one of my favorite scenes!

The film explores themes of resilience, determination, community, and Mexican/Mexican-American culture. Jose, like many Mexican-Americans including myself, was born to immigrant parents who came to the United States in hopes of achieving the "American Dream", or at least having a taste of it by earning higher wages compared to in Mexico. The film A Million Miles Away begins with the farewell of Salvador and Julia, Jose's parents, and their children as they leave Mexico to work on Californian farms in hopes of saving enough money to build a house in their hometown in Michoacan, Mexico. Once in the US, Jose has to help his parents work the farms early in the morning then head to school, where he excels in math.

A very important character in Jose's story is his elementary teacher, Ms. Young, who believes in him and in his goal. Because of her, Salvador was convinced to stay in one place instead picking up his family and moving every few months with the harvest, "How can a tree grow fruit when it is being uprooted and replanted every three months?" she asked.

The film fast forwards to Jose finding love, graduating college, and finally resumes when he has his first job as a lab engineer for a federal research facility. Here, he is a minority, and seen as unqualified at the beginning. For example, the secretary assumes Jose to be the new janitor despite him wearing dress clothes like all the other engineers at the facility. Although he is discouraged, he does not give up; in fact he works harder to get what he wants to achieve.

Marquez Abella, expresses storytelling through film in a way that honored Jose's story. She uses iconic Norteña music, and other iconic Mexican/Mexican-American songs that fit the corresponding scene perfectly. There is also a specific scene near the end where Jose is close to accomplishing his goal and has flashbacks to conversations with his loved ones where they are encouraging and motivating him, but this time said characters break the fourth wall and are speaking to the audience. This was clever and moving, it inspires the audience and builds a closer connection with the characters. 

The use of “chapters” throughout the film which follow Salvador’s receta, or recipe, keep the viewer engaged and wanting to take notes–at least it did when I watched it the first, second, and third time. Overall, the movie evokes emotion and awe, furthermore it evoked a personal connection because I share similar experiences with sacrifices, food, music, being Mexican-American, and having closely related goals.

During this time there were only a handful of songs talking about drug trafficking but this song was much more cinematic then others. The song talks about a woman smuggler who shoots the man and takes off with the money. After getting permission to record this song they would release “Contrabando y Traicion” (“contraband and betrayal”) in 1974. This would be the breakthrough they needed to become the band they are today.

Three drinks after finishing the bottle and maybe more than 2 hours waiting to see the pigeons or dogs return I decide to go to the subway, I leave the bottle to the old man, I simply can't stand it anymore that he won't stop laughing and I didn't want to throw the 2 teeth he had left for a joke that nobody told me. Officially I am in shape, I pass the card with the hope that it brings balance and for my luck it brings 94 pesos, I wish I could take them out to buy a soup and a coca to mix my bottle, that would be a good party. I get on the subway and take a seat I feel a little heavy I close my eyes. I thought it's been a while because the sun has burned my cheek, I seem to be levitating, but happy. They have made me want to sing, I put 'the destiny' of Juan Gabriel and let me go, I only need Rocío Dúrcal for this to be perfect, the verses seem to come out alone I should have composed this song but it is because I am sure I have seen a couple of vinyl records on my mom's old coffee console, I would be just as sure of going to register it as an author; I'm a pinche poeta. Los Tigres del Norte Rueda de Prensa 21a Entrega Anual del Latin GRAMMY®

Durante la Rueda de Prensa para la 21a Entrega Anual del Latin GRAMMY®, Los Tigres del Norte expresan su grandes emociones por la nominación al Latin GRAMMY, contentos de compartir con el público virtualmente, experimentando un sentimiento de nostalgia extrañando el escenario con el público.

Indicaron que se sienten muy contentos de compartir juntos con amigos después de ocho largos meses en la pandemia. Relatan que es importante estar activos a diario para permitir que sus canciones legendarias que enfatizan temas para hacer conciencia, lleguen a los jóvenes.  Ellos quieren ser auténticos, participar en proyectos que los tomen en cuenta, poder comunicarse con el público y la prensa.  Expresaron que tienen buenos recuerdos de su trayectoria musical, junto a sus hermanos.

Compartieron que la pandemia les ha enseñado: 'valorar y saber la importancia de cada uno de sus hermanos, lo grande que es la vida que le da la oportunidad de comunicarse con un ser humano, ser una mejor persona y tener un espíritu triunfador cada día.  Hay que hacer amigos todos los días, y ayudar a quien se pueda con lo que Dios les da.'

Sobre las elecciones, esperan que el voto de todos los que salieron a votar se respete, estuvieron contentos de poder haber participado en la campaña de ayudar a todos salir a votar y esperan que la reforma inmigratoria favorezca a muchos inmigrantes.

Hablaron sobre sus nominaciones en las dos categorías en Mejor Álbum Norteño "Los Tigres del Norte at Folsom Prison" y en Mejor Video Musical Formato Largo "Los Tigres del Norte at Folsom Prison" al igual de todas las nominaciones que han tenido, y haber ganado varios GRAMMYs y Latin GRAMMYs.
