Embrace it!
Yep, I've been sauntering through The Void (embracethevo.id) - a shiny new website for Lord Huron fans who favor the deep dive.
It's fancier than a nickel-plated six-shooter.
So far Tubbs Tarbell has spun an entertaining yarn about how he discovered the Bubs, then invited fans to tell their LH origin stories, which also makes for lively reading. The art that accompanies many of these stories is particularly impressive.
You can believe the World Enders are on it like jingle-jangle on spurs.

Favorite Albums: choose 9 and then tag 9 people!
For my own sanity, I didn't include musicals because I could fill up a whole other 3x3 grid with them, and comparing musicals to non-musical theater albums is weird.
Those last 4 that you definitely don't recognize are by Old Earth who you should definitely listen to if you want artsy ambient indie folk with really intricate guitar. My absolute favorite artist by far, and also the most obscure artist I listen to by far.
Electric by The Pet Shop Boys — I think this is my favorite album period. I am still pissed off that Tom Scott called it "not that great" in the old Technical Difficulties podcast. Maybe I'm biased because it was my favorite album when I was 14 and because it's where I really fell in love with the Pet Shop Boys. God I love them. So much. I'm way too excited for the new album and I worship geowayne's website where he analyzes all their songs. I probably should have put another PSB album on here, but there isn't another where I'm in love with every track. Plus honestly so many of my favorite tracks of theirs are B sides. They still release B sides with their singles, and this album cycle, the B sides are honestly better than the actual singles. Anyway electric is pure synthy electropop and I adore it in that way you can only love something you first heard at 14.
Pure Heroine by Lorde — I read a quote somewhere where Lorde said she tried to really put all of being a teenager into the album, so much so that once she became an adult, she probably wouldn't understand or like it anymore. I can definitely say that I'm not nearly as attached to it anymore now that I'm an adult, but God, it was my life when I was 13. She really did capture the unique ennui of being a teenager. I wrote a novel in eighth grade, and I wrote at least half of it to tracks from this album. Also, hot take: Royals is my least favorite track by a lot. Buzzcut Season is my favorite.
My Head is an Animal by Of Monsters and Men — God, this one was my life when I was like, 12. I fell in love with folk there, and I'm still in love nearly a decade later. Another album where I still love every track.
Strange Trails by Lord Huron — hey look, an album I actually discovered and came to love as an adult! The fact that I love Lord Huron's brand of folky horror/fantasy/western music that tell stories with characters should not surprise anyone. Also, if I had to describe my experience with schizophrenia in one song, I'd choose Meet Me in the Woods.
The Tragic Treasury by The Gothic Archies — Look. Hear me out. Is it a album based purely on A Series of Unfortunate Events? Yes. But. Is it also an album where I genuinely love every track and have genuinely been known to just throw it on shuffle? Yes. I mean I think of one lyric from this album, like, weekly. I swear it's not just ASOUE brainrot that makes me like it so much. If it'd ever gotten a vinyl release, I'd absolutely own it. I wish it had gotten one.
a low place at The Old Place by Old Earth — honestly this is probably only my favorite Old Earth album because it's the one that I was able to actually get on vinyl and being able to play that vinyl is so lovely. I mean, it's good, but so is everything by Old Earth. Then again, Less Words is my favorite single track by them and it is on this album. Look. All the Old Earth albums I've listed here are, at most, 20 minutes long. If you like ambient artsy indie folk with lyrics that are there more for the way they sound than their meaning, try one.
light shaped by Old Earth — god the lyrics to this one. Normally I don't like Old Earth for the lyrics but. "It gets old/then it's done" and "what if it's just some song that gets you home" and especially "I'm holding your arms/and you're holding my eyes/and I lie like the right thing to do" are all just so great. And so is the middle track with no lyrics.
... until they're called by Old Earth — have you ever heard an album so good that you a) just played the whole thing and danced to it in your basement nonstop for the full 12 minutes, and then b) wrote a poem about the experience? People talk about finding God, but dancing to that album was the moment I found athiesm. The beauty of us all being here for no reason, just feeling things and living and doing our best to make something beautiful out of it.
Two Torches, at a Place Where Three Roads Meet by Old Earth — I'll be honest, I don't have much to say about this one. They're just a really solid three tracks.
... Yeah okay I really like Old Earth. Don't judge me.
Thank you @cygninae and @thehistoryone for tagging me! I'll tag @ven10 (I'm surprised neither of the people who tagged me tagged you), @weirdthoughtsandideas (ditto), @70snasagay (hmmmm i wonder what you'll put), @cat-boy-tom, @thetreetzar, @buncoreclown, @notthatalex, @unfortunate-sapphic-disaster, and @roach-in-the-kitchen. No pressure, obviously!

no one asked for my theories about lord huron 5 but i’m gonna give them anyway :D i think the fact that they spent an entire month celebrating lonesome dreams’ 10 year anniversary along with the attention to detail re: blurring george ranger johnson’s face on his website for long lost PLUS this post
which adds the tidbit about johnson’s radio show (compared to his website on the right) all points me towards believing a possible theme could be a follow up from lonesome dreams? but instead of the novels themselves it’s more of a focus on GRJ himself. especially if you’ve listened to their performance of the comedian; the comedian sounds like it’s written by someone who’s had stardom and lost it and (without spoiling it too much for those who don’t want to listen to it yet) the general vibe sounds like it could easily be from his point of view. we know so little about him other than his works, his brief appearance on AFWP as a guest on tubbs’ show, and his ownership of the broken bottle bar. which!!! is the bar that so much of long lost stems from!! tubbs discovering his first act (donny and midge) there and quentin king performing there and receiving the unfinished copy of setting sun (not to mention its appearances in AFWP and the twenty long years lyric video). also the bar is seen as derelict in episode 426, and that leaves so many questions!! did GRJ abandon it to pursue his writing? did he own it throughout his first novels only to abandon it when he reached stardom?
also a lot of people have theorized that because of the “your other life” music video cliffhanger of the Orbs™ and the Laser Gun™ we might see a future album consist of an extraterrestrial theme with a possible 80s vibe. and well. wouldn’t an album focused on GRJ’s radio show- which consists of his favorite songs (which very much could be from the 80s), unexplained phenomena, and questions of extraterrestrial life- fit that narrative?
#IMAGINEEEEE if i put this much effort into my final paper. oh my god#not to be silly but march 11 is his birthday what if th- *i am forcefully dragged away to the sea*#lord huron

Legitimately really curious about the music question from that kin ask meme you just reblogged. I'd love an answer about any of your kintypes, but I'm especially interested to know if there's any music that you associate with/really resonates with your experience as an isopod.
THANK YOU
See, here's the thing, I never really associate music with any of my theriotypes. Animalistic species specifically. I get into an animalistic mindset by being in nature or acting out instincts, and music (or any other form of art) is going to take me out of that, especially if there's lyrics. There's no bird music to me, no bug music or mustelid music. I just don't associate it, positively or negatively. I guess no, to answer your question. To be in an isopod shift I'd rather be by the ocean or eat foods similar to what we eat in the wild (seaweed salad I guess), since that's what feels the most animalistic to me. Especially for isopod shifts, an animal that does not have a traditional chordate's sense of hearing, I'm not going to vibe with music. I'd share MyNoise generators that have those vibes for me before any songs.
Music-related shifts for me are all about the sapient kintypes, i.e. computer, Novakid, or fictotypes. But I liked this particular ask meme's music question because it differentiated songs, bands, and genres! And I love to talk genre so!
Individual songs are gonna be (Link) Blame by Air Traffic Controller, Never Existed by Keldian, Take 3 by Inner Wave, Lonesome Dreams by Lord Huron, (for Novakid) S.T.A.R. Child by The Orion Experience, Lightning Riders by AWOLNATION, Space Western by Rich Aucoin, Propane Nightmares by Pendulum, Nova by VNV Nation, (...other) Dreams by Joakim Karud (I cannot concisely explain why it puts me in a computer mindset)
Coincidentally, today (after reblogging that!) I just happened upon a song I didn't know about before, from a band with only 1 album and 10 listeners on Spotify, only available for streaming on a single website in the depths of the obscure music Internet, which catapulted me into a Novakid shift, so here's that, obviously
But I feel like I've listed those songs a million times and never mentioned that genres in general are what "computer kintype music" is for me. My computer kintype is an IBM 7090 so I heavily associate it with 1970s electronic music particularly, so that playlist is a lot of vintage electronica, Space Art, Mort Garson, moog synths, songs with Casio instruments, and recent stuff that takes inspiration from that era like Eyeliner, Jack Stauber, MNQN, and certain synthwave artists. I also associate it a lot with computer animation (pre-Disney-Pixar) so that's a lot of vaporwave and also every soundtrack album for all the Mind's Eye films (those are by James Reynolds, Jan Hammer and Thomas Dolby). I've never been able to find a really good version online of the song from Fabricated Rhythm, which I think is just called Fabricated Rhythm, but I like that too.
Post-punk reminds me of autumn/whatever my weird cryptic kintype is that's associated with the season, but maybe that's just because I'm happiest in fall and I love post-punk. However if anyone can help explain why Figure In the Background by Snake Pool gives me species euphoria lmk
#ask#music talk#sorry if you didn't get the answer you were hoping for! music just really does not make me feel more animal#I used to try and force it to‚ I kept a raven playlist but I eventually realized it was really all just aesthetic and wasn't actually shift#and it was almost entirely Louie Zong anyways

Rules: answer and tag people you want to get to know better and/or catch up with!
Tagged by @ellelans, thank you my dear 😊💖
favorite color: as a painter I don't really do fave colours, everything is just so good. Teal blue is up there tho, along with rich foresty greens and warm yellow
last song: The World Ender by Lord Huron
last movie: The Last Duel, which was honestly so good (even if it was really jarring to see three Big Hollywood faces in a medieval french setting)
currently reading: Deadpool & Wolverine fics. Book-wise, I just finished The Little Shop of Happily Ever After by Jenny Colgan, which was both very cute and cosy and also kinda relatable 😅
currently watching: Boston Legal (reruns on TV again). Prev Elle if you think Big Bang Theory is considered problematic, Boston Legal would give half this website a heart attack. But honestly? It's one of my favourite shows. It's got a LOT of political topics that are still relevant, has a lot of earnestness, and much more sharp, funny and intelligent writing than most modern shows - despite some of its issues (which there are, I won't deny it)
currently craving: not really anything just now tbh, had a mid-afternoon snack like an hour ago so I'm sated 😊
tea or coffee: bothhhh tho tea takes the edge just a little. Mostly bc too much coffee does give me a headache. But I love the amount of different flavours of tea there are, and I love making unique coffee syrups to make nice coffee with!
tagging: @witchklng, @thatsthewrongwallcraig, @rulemakingrat and anyone who feels like it
#anne speaks#tag game#you're lucky it's a quiet work day bc i honestly never respond to tag games (not bc i don't want to i just tend to forget 😅😅)

— MEMORY ( AS YOU SLIP AWAY )
↷ zhongli x reader ( minific ) . . . coming soon
❝ just remember, the storm doesn't last forever. it can scare you; it can shake you to your core. but it never lasts. the rain subsides, the thunder dies, and the winds calm to a soft whisper. and that moment after the storm clouds pass, when all is silent and still, you find peace. quiet, gentle peace. ❞
S. L JENNINGS , THE FEAR OF FALLING
DISCLAIMERS + NOTES

ii. THE READER IS A GOD INSPIRED by the gods from noragami and uses feminine terms as a descriptor. the use of y/n is minimal at best and they are usually referred to by their godly name 'foras'. this work also contains smut, said chapter will be tagged appropriately.

SUMMARY
EVEN THE DIVINE WERE NOT exempt from the misfortunes of fate. those who rule teyvat bear their burdens of loss and blood, of the times of peace they once lived sullied by the ugly scars of war. even the gods look upon their lands and wish for their respite away from their bleak reality and loneliness.
YOU WERE A YOUNG GOD, born in an age of a peace that stood upon foundations yet to be reinforced and solidified. the whispers of the dead long past meet your ears and mortal longing beats within your heart. but fate, as it is, dispassionate against the divine and the mortal lets your ascension be marred by three cruel curses.
PERHAPS YOU WERE DOOMED to be forgotten from the start, to be glanced over by the heavens till you fade away from history and it's writings. but you still keep walking, keep wandering, despite your fears and heartache, bearing the scars of a war upon your back and your final penance. a promise that you hope to keep for a friend and lover till the very memory of you slips away.

A cool story from the World Enders website ...
A Lord Huron fan who posts on the site under the name Anne-Sophie was at LH's recent show in Paris. Noodling around on Twitter the next day, she found a photo of the concert posted on Rock UR Life, a music "webzine" based in France.
There she was, unmistakably, in the front row.
She wrote: "You can see me in that photo, with my sign ... having my best life."
I enlarged the photo as well as I could. I think the sign says: "U SAVED MY LIFE." There must be a story there.
(Note to readers: Obviously I've been dealng with hackers lately. I try to delete the fake posts as quickly as I can, but they show up faster than I can take them down. Contrary to what the hack says, I have no "personal fan page," etc., etc. ... I'm sure most of you can spot the fakes.)

Then, Now, and Always
Chapter 46: Then, Now, and Always
Summary: The end of the war and everything that comes after.
Author's Note below the cut. Contains spoilers for the chapter so read the chapter first.
Thanks everyone for reading Then, Now, and Always. My biggest creative project of the past year and as of now, my best work. This fandom has given me so much, from badly needed dopamine during my first year of grad school to a lovely excuse to go to London for my first ever con! I've discovered so much new music and so many new artists, developed crushes on a ton of great actors, and expanded my creative world so much. I can't believe the fic is finished. I'll sure miss it, but I'm excited to do other awesome things.
If anyone is interested, here is a link to an app/website called Lingvano. It comes highly recommended by deaf folks as a way for (hearing) people to learn ASL from deaf people. If I could write this fic again, I'd put actual deaf characters in it and maybe give Tally a deaf teacher. From research, I've learned it's better to study ASL from deaf folks, as they speak it as it's meant to be spoken and it's also their language in general. Unfortunately, Lingvano costs $9.99 per month after the free trial. Worth it in my opinion, as it's a very well-done site.
At the end of this post, there's a link to a playlist of music I listened to while writing the fic. I put liner notes of sorts below because I always get excited when other authors do that. However, you're welcome to listen however you like.
The Playlist
Chasing Twisters - Delta Rae : If Then, Now, and Always had a theme song, it would be this.
Salvation - LP : Honorable Mention
The Night We Met - Lord Huron : A guest commenter called Song Fairy recced this song to me in the Chapter 28 comments. You could listen to it anywhere in the fic, but Chapter 2 is reasonable enough to get a taste of what's coming.
X-Training - Henry Jackman : To be listened to during Chapter 11 during Tally's retraining montage.
Come to Your Senses - Alexandra Shipp, Vanessa Hudgens : It amuses me that this song is two women singing to Andrew Garfield because in my opinion, it's the best lesbian love ballad ever written for musical theater. Accompanies Chapter 12: The Twilight of Witchkind.
Say Something - A Great Big World, Christina Aguilera : I'm guessing it's obvious, but if it's not, this goes with Chapter 13: Say Something.
This is Me - Keala Settle, The Greatest Showman Ensemble : To be listened to with Chapter 15: Silent Witch, when Tally grabs the world by the nostrils and forces it to acknowledge her.
Ugly Heart - G.R.L : Could be listened to anywhere in the Chapter 16-19 realm where Sarah and Tally are both raging, both mad, sort of at each other, but mostly in general.
Evermore - Josh Groban : SpookyWitchling mentioned this song in the comments of Chapter 16: By Hand, specifically. I like it more as an Alder song, maybe at the end of Chapter 17: The Downside of Miracles, but you may do as you wish.
Laid Low - The Naked and Famous : This song has made Top 5 in my Spotify end of year playlist since 2016. It's a banger, it has anime AMV energy, I love it, and I think it's goes well with the Arc II finale, Chapter 25: Battle of the Goddesses.
If I'd Known I Loved Her - Delta Rae : I love this song so much. I first heard it in September 2022, back when TNAA was a mere twinkle in my eye, and I was like "Holy shit, this is Alder's half of the love story." Goes with Chapter 26: If I'd Known.
History Has Its Eyes on You: Christopher Jackson, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Original Broadway Cast of Hamilton : The main difficulty of writing the third act was Tally's character arc. At first, it was her overcoming her squeamishness and fear of getting hands dirty by killing Hearst in the finale. This felt supremely unsatisfying to me, and I realized this was because it was Tally's Arc II character journey, which was tied off in Chapter 25: Battle of the Goddesses. Readers might have missed it because it was an Alder POV chapter, but Chapter 25 is Tally's Arc II character climax. She takes control of Alder's mind during their duel, showing she's willing to fight dirty, punch below the belt, and do whatever it takes to survive, and she betrays Nicte to save the Spree, showing she can put her personal feelings aside to protect her people. Everything I'd planned for Arc III Tally, I actually gave to Arc II Tally. So I had to think of something else.
This song got me to where I needed to be to write Arc III Tally. At this point, it's not really about her personal internals, but about her journey as a leader and what she's going to do to change the world and lead witches into a future of peace. Yeah I know. It got really plotty and philosophical. But everything worked out! And I think it's way better than my original plan.
Stand by You - Rachel Platten
Human - Cher Lloyd
I like either or both of these for Chapters 28 and 29, Alder's Folly and The Seed of Revelation, Tally's POV which then slides into Alder's POV. They're ballads, bangers, and they work on numerous levels, which is cool.
All I Ask of You - Josh Groban, Kelly Clarkson : The song that led to me becoming a Kelly Clarkson stan. Her new album, Chemistry, is amazing. Listen to this song with Chapter 32: Past, Present, Future, when Tally is soothing Alder's fears and musing about their future.
Tally Two / What's the Plan / F-14 - Harold Faltermeyer : The main reason this fic is so aircraft-heavy is because I started writing it in October 2022, when Top Gun: Maverick came out on streaming. Listen to this song during Chapter 33: Into Darkness.
Zen Ball Master - John Powell, Hans Zimmer : It's not perfect, but I think the first half of the song suits the firefight scene in Chapter 35: Tally's Gift, when Tally, Sarah, and the Biddies are fighting their way out of the death factory.
I Am Moana (Song of the Ancestors) : I listened to this on repeat when I wrote Chapter 39: Nafssia. I knew what the chapter would be, I knew what Tally would do, and I knew I had to bring the fucking house down, which is why it took going to England, experiencing Witchbomb, and getting smiled at by Lyne Renee to pull it off.
One Less Witch in the World - Brandon Roberts : I'm sure I'm not the only one who thinks this, but the Motherland soundtrack is disproportionately amazing. Like...why didn't they spend that money on better writers? Or idk, a few more episodes in each season? Doesn't matter. This song is awesome, but I think it works well with Chapter 44: One Less Witch in the World, during the third section where they're diverting the Accords.
Dance with Everybody - Drew Holcomb and the Neighbors
Who Do You Love - Marianas Trench
Better Place - Rachel Platten
Three end credits songs. I like imagining Sarah and Tally enjoying a wonderful Beltane together with Dance with Everybody and/or Who Do You Love as the backing track. In my mind, if it's Who Do You Love, Tally runs over to the drums for heavy drums section during the bridge and uses her touch-empathy to play alongside the rest of the drummers. She doesn't have a voice, so I like imagining her learning to play instruments so she and Sarah can still make music together. Better Place works well as a fade-to-black song during the domestic bliss at the end of the fic.

is there a band/musician you recommend to everyone? Do you think you’re a good driver? Do you have a favorite word?
Hello!
I want everyone in the world to listen to more mika, I just think that would be neat bc i love him so much. I will not dare to proselytize about lord huron on the destiel posting website y'all already know
I am NOT a good driver, I have had a license for 8 years but never owned a car so ig I don't practice much, but I went on a roadtrip around Ireland with my friend a few months ago and we had some near misses I can't lie
I've been trying to come up with a favourite word for ages but I can't think of anything, so I asked some people and apparently the word I say the most is absolutely, which is fine ig? Does everyone else have a favourite word? Like something that's nice to say or something where you like the meaning???
XO
