It’s about how Lora/Yori is always the guide, always knows just where to go and what to do and how Alan/Tron happily go along with it. They trust she knows best (they’re also a total sap about her)

It’s the “if I’m not holding your hand right now I’ll explode”. They’re so touchy and my heart can’t take it? Lora/Yori has a tendency to cling to his arm, press herself into his shoulder and it’s absolutely everything.

Also no one talks about how funny the arcade scene is, Lora is just giggling and dragging him along as Alan is going through increasing stages of ‘oh my god what have I got myself into- what is this guy’ — this arcade serves all ages and demographics and somehow he still sticks out! In this case it’s a reverse where Lora is the one to ‘protect’ him and I’m going to loose it.

I personally don't like this one as much. I think the beginning of art block has started to hit me in the face when I did this. I do like the colors though. Download here for feels.

I wanted to briefly ramble about the zine below so there's that :')

Reading the Always zine felt like the best part of funerals in my opinion- the wake. People sharing their love for the person who passed. Stories being shared. It's beautiful. I managed to not cry while reading it but it was close.

not everyone may have known Cindy Morgan personally, but it's clear to me she was a genuinely wonderful individual, and the lives she touched are will bring their joy to other people's lives as well.

I haven’t used this blog as much as i initially planned too or should have. Lora and Yori are such delightful and underrated characters that I wanted to give a bit more love to in the modern fandom, in light of recent news I think I should start to honor that a bit more.

Rip Cindy Morgan,

I honestly did not believe it at first, it’s one of those moments that strikes you as you can never imagine it. I know I’ve never known her but it’s still a major blow.

Angstpril Day Fifteen: Lost In My Mind

“Alan?” Roy pops his head into the next cubicle over. “Have you seen—Alan? Hey!”

Alan startles when Roy raps on his desk. His face turns red when he finally looks up.

“Sorry,” he says.

Roy snorts. He starts to ask what had him so distracted in the first place, but then he hears it—Lora and Flynn laughing together from somewhere down the hall. 

He bites back a frown.

Roy knows that Alan likes Lora. He’d planned on asking her out before Flynn beat him to it. ENCOM’s latest happy couple has been together for months now—and Alan is miserable.

“You’ve gotta stop torturing yourself,” Roy says.

“Yeah.” Alan looks at the screen instead of him. “I’m pathetic.”

“You’re not pathetic. You’re human, like the rest of us.”

As if that’s supposed to make him feel better.

“Did you need something?” Alan asks, eager to change the subject. 

“Uh, it can wait,” Roy says, looking at something to his left. Then, before Alan can respond, he escapes back to his own cube. 

Moments later, another face appears in the doorway.

“Good morning, Alan,” Lora greets. She leans against the partition, all casual grace, her hands cradling a coffee mug. 

She does this sometimes—stops by for just a moment before heading back downstairs. Alan smiles. It’s far too easy to smile at her.

“Good morning, Dr. Baines.” 

Her own smile warms as she watches him over the rim of her drink. 

“You can call me Lora, Alan.” 

“Good morning, Lora,” he says softly. She grins again, and then she’s gone. 

Alan waits until he hears her retreating footsteps to thunk his head against the desk. 

He’s in so much trouble.

WHAT I PRESUME THIS IS: The orange tree being the first sign of the Grid bleeding out into the real world, an AI tree just existing on its own in the arctic with no rhyme or reason--When the orange was the first successful breach of organic matter into a digital space via laser by Lora in 1982. It's almost biblical in its ominous approach and I am in love.

The novel of TRON 1982 is such a weird wealth of lore

today I'm delightedly fixated on how it approaches "pop culture references and the question of whether and how to explain them"

(I love this novel but there are times when it felt like in this respect it was trying to be the "Ready Player One" of 1982 and it's hilarious)

Anyway. We see that it at least acknowledged Alan's famous cubicle sign as a reference to something AI-related, although it goes into no more specifics

And (quite helpfully, imo) it also clarifies Lora's odd comment about purchasing your program 30 days in advance (she was doing a travel agent bit, apparently)

And then it feels the need to explain quite thoroughly just what Flynn was referencing with the "wayback machine" quote

(while also showcasing the different formatting standards of the time! Double quotes nested within single quotes, back then. Nice.)

...and then, it starts referencing things that... neither I, nor the actual final cut of the movie, have any bloody idea about

Lora: "Oh, you want to talk about clothes, Kevin? Should I tell Alan about some of your fashion choices through the years?"

Flynn: "Aw, c'mon Lora, you don't have to bring that up..."

Lora: "Alan, it wasn't too long ago that the boy genius here started gluing all kinds of rhinestones onto everything he wore. When we went to an arcade, he was glittering more than the machines."

Alan: "Is that true, Flynn? Have you been been bedazzling?"

Flynn: "Bedazzling is such an ugly word, Mr. Bradley."

Why Alan couldn’t cut it-

I’m not beating the “is obsessed with the 82’ novelization accusations, this is my 5th time reading it. In my defense it’s great and adds a lot of detail, anyways.

The way it talks about Alan and his morals really struck me. They put him into a great contrast with Dillinger and even Flynn, who ultimately does good but is a bit looser when it comes to following rules. The paragraph says it better than I’m going to but his decision to go along with the break in plan comes simply because he feels what’s happening at ENCOM is wrong. Someone has to do something, Alan waits before acting himself sees if anyone attacks from a legal Avenue. A “someone will” attitude, because he has so much faith in others that he knows it’s not just him who will see a issue and want to do something about it. Not him but someone will… unfortunately we don’t live in a world with many “doers”. His decision to go along with the break in is a spur of the moment, he’s struck with sympathy for Flynn and his already existent frustration and sense of wrong. It’s probably one of the first times he doesn’t talk himself into backing down.

Alan is a good man. A honest man and a hard worker who’s faith in others is a bit higher than they deserve. He’s a rarity! A honest, rule following businessman. That’s why he could never last at the top of ENCOM, in “the last day” short film and likely the Flynn lives campaign there’s a brief mention of Alan being a Temp CEO while Flynn was missing. This was a very brief period in the 90s that quickly saw him pushed back down onto the board and basically being expected to shut up. Almost a quite firing. He’s not cut out for the cutthroat corporate game - he’s good at deals and explaining what they do but that only gets you so far… I can also see why from a talk perspective. In the Paranoids online mini video he absolutely flounders until Lora swoops in to save him. He’s not exactly Flashy Kevin flynn who could go “woof” into the mic and make the crowd go wild.

Additionally I love how much this puts him into contrast with Tron. For all the things that make Alan weak in the business world are what make Tron the admirable chosen warrior, the noble hero, within the grid. Here all of the best aspects of Alan are commemorated. That honesty, faith and stalwart behavior are better suited for the mythical other world of fairytale endings. Good conquers evil, the MCP explodes and the end. In the real world? Good luck, good guys can’t seem to win anymore.

Angstpril Day Four: “Why did you leave?”

Lora’s first night home was almost perfect.

Alan could hardly take his eyes off of her, which hadn’t exactly hurt her ego. Conversation between them had been as easy as ever. He asked about her work and how she liked D.C., and hung on her every word when she answered. She gave him the same attention as he recounted the latest goings on at ENCOM, including Flynn and Roy’s pranks on the board. Lora laughed more in that single car ride than she had in months. And the more she listened to him talk, the more she realized how much she had missed him.

It wasn’t all perfect; there were times when Alan tried too hard, insisting that he carry her bags and open every door. But Lora didn’t mind. It was sweet, and he relaxed once they finally got home.

She hovered while he made dinner, keeping him company and stealing tastes of the food when he wasn’t looking. He pretended not to notice. They were mostly quiet while they ate, indulging in each other's presence and a little too much wine.

After dinner they indulged a little more.

Now Alan is curled around her. Lora reaches back to run a hand through his hair and he hums, nuzzling closer. It’s bittersweet; they both know they only have a few days together before she has to leave again.

“I’ve missed you,” Alan mumbles against her shoulder, already half-asleep. And if that makes her heart ache, what he says next is worse. “Why did you leave?”
