A rant about Loki - Where Mischief Lies
Loki - Where Mischief Lies is probably one of my favorite Loki contents, the book portrays this young Loki and a bit of his life in Odin’s court, it dives deep in his magic and how he feels growing up as a sorcerer in a warrior’s society, it also shows his relationship with Amora, who in the story is Karnilla’s apprentice and heir to the throne of Nornheim, Karnilla is the Norn Queen and Odin’s royal sorceress.
I think I love the book so much because Mackenzie Lee (the author) is not afraid to explain to the readers what’s going on inside Loki’s head. Sometimes I feel like I'm reading some meta analysis of the character (and I mean that as a compliment!), she really understands Loki, what his motivations are and portrays him as this charming young boy who’s so insecure about who he is but is so eager to please his father, to prove himself worthy of the title of prince of Asgard, to impress Amora, to be a good sorcerer, to be a good soldier, a good son, he is just desperate for someone to see his value, even though he doesn’t see any value in himself.
The book is supposed to show us who Loki was before he became the villain of the Avengers, before he embraced his role as a antagonist and in my opinion it does a really good job on that, we see how reluctant he is to accept that in the beginning of the story, but by the end he is sadly ready to take the mantle of The Villain and to become the awful man everyone around him assumes him to be.
Right at the beginning of the story we see a boy who lives under the pressure of being a son of Odin and a prince of Asgard, Loki says at some point:
“He wished he could afford not to care, not to feel like everything he did right or wrong was ticked off in a corresponding column and kept on file for the day Odin would name either him or Thor as the heir to the Asgardian crown.”.
Now, that is a lot of pressure for someone to grow up under, and this bit is specially heartbreaking to me because we as an audience know that Odin has no intents to put Loki in the throne of Asgard, but the boy feels like he has the responsibility to prove himself worthy of the throne, he feels like he is failing his father and his people and he is also so immensely alone, he has no friends in court until Amora arrives and no one in Asgard has a good opinion on her. Loki is very clearly in love with her, I find so sweet the way he describes how he feels when around her, he’s like this teen awkwardly in love for the first time, he sees her as a model of perfection, he wants to be like her, she is everything he ever dreamed to be: confident, skilled with magic, strong, witty and funny.
There's a few moments where he talks about himself and we can see that the self loathing is strong, he despises all the things that make him him and would gladly throw it all away if it meant he could become Asgard’s “ideal prince”, wich by the way is Thor, that’s it, in Loki’s opinion (and apparently in Asgard’s opinion) Thor is the perfect prince, he is blonde, muscular, strong, and an excellent warrior, Loki even says:
“The gods could not have handcrafted a more obvious model of kingship than Thor”.
Loki praises him (not out loud of course) for his appearance and describes himself as
“the scraps of (Thor’s) silhouette, the part that was discarded on the workshop floor to be swept up and tossed into the fire—thin and pale, with a hooked nose and black hair that hung flat to the nape of his neck, where it flipped into an unflattering curl. While Thor’s skin bronzed in the sun so that he seemed made of armor, Loki was pale as milk, and soured just as easily.”
It’s very clear Loki does not think much of himself, he hates pretty much everything that makes him unique and is very sad to see how desperate he is to fit in, to belong. We see his desperation when he talks about Amora arriving at court, he says he had never interacted with another sorcerer besides his mother and states that he thought of Amora as an equal, someone just like him. In his first conversation with her we can see clearly how unsure of himself he is, he wants to be more confident and open but fears she’ll not find him interesting enough to talk to him:
“He wanted to sit beside her, but somehow that felt too presumptuous, a bold assumption that he was interesting enough for her to want around.”
That almost seems like another character entirely, right? Imagine Loki from the MCU, that arrogant man who treated everyone else as being beneath him as a shy, insecure teenager who was scared the girl he had a crush on would not want to talk to him. That’s why I love that book so much, it shows who Loki really was before adopting the persona of the God of Mischief. The way he describes some of their interactions is literally so sweet and relatable, he really was just a boy in love with the new girl in town, there’s a bit where they’re in the gardens and this happens:
“Loki sank down beside her, close enough that their knees pressed together. Even through the hazy gloom lingering from his conversation with Thor, an electric shiver went through him when she didn’t pull away from his touch. No matter how small that touch was.”
This is so sweet, he is so in love with her, is so shy and insecure, he is always nervous when around her, always trying to hide things she would consider weaknesses, it’s clear he considers himself to be weak, as i said before he despises himself and all of his particularities.
He is also always seeing other people as being superior to him, is always looking down on himself and trying to be someone else, someone he thinks is who he should be. He wants to be accepted so bad, he wants to be loved, wants to know that he belongs in his family, wants to be just a good prince as Thor is, wants to feel seen by his father, this may sound silly but he just wants attention, he is tired of feeling inadequate, he is desperate for Odin to acknowledge his value and to consider him worthy of his attention.
Loki is almost obsessed with his father, everything he does he does to impress him, sadly he never succeeds, each time he creates a scheme to praise Odin he fails and his opinion on Loki only gets worse, Odin starts to see Loki as this corrupted man with darkness in his soul, with an evil and calculating nature and a danger to Asgard.
What he fails to realize is that Loki at his core is just (as Mobius himself put in the series) a scared little boy, he needs guidance and validation from the person he considers the most, he depends so much on Odin’s opinion of him, he lets it define who he is, he is not strong enough to stand up against this perception of himself, probably because he hasn’t got a single friend, no one he can be vulnerable with without fear of judgment, he bears his burden alone and is nearly falling apart under the weight of everything he has on his shoulders, he really needs someone he can be real with, but he probably will never feel comfortable enough with anyone to let his guard down.
He doesn’t even allow himself to be in love, when he realizes he’s starting to become too fond with people he immediately pushes them back, he puts on the act of the cold, bad guy, but at the same time he is desperate for connection, contradictory fellow innit?
Loki struggles with his need for love and acceptance and the fear of showing his true colors to people around him, he views himself as weak and he’s not willing to show weakness to anyone, he needs a friend he can be real with (and I feel the Loki series has hit the nail in the head with Mobius, he is exactly the kind of friend Loki needs), a friend who sees the man behind the mask of villainy and is willing to accept Loki for who he is.
I couldn’t help but feel impotent reading the book because at some parts you really wants to jump on the pages and hold him close to you, whilst telling him everything will be okay and that he is enough, that his worth is not tied to Odin perspective of him and that he is capable of doing everything he ever dreamed and more.
Well, that was quite a long post, sorry if I talked too much, this book is so important to me as a Loki fan, I could rant about it for hours!

Arms wrapped around him, curvaceous frame pressed against him, and soft lips peppering kisses across the God of Mischief's features as she ran a hand through raven curls with a loving touch. It was a greeting, one reserved solely for him after a night of amorous entanglement. Like a teenager in love, Amora was all honeyed chortles and barely contained smiles, an embarrassing giggling mess whose cheeks soon began mimicking the lively pigments of Asgardian berries. Then, Loki's words finally reached her.
An uneasy sense of dread settled at the pit of her stomach; hearing the implications of Loki regretting the night they shared, regretting her, sent an unpleasant wave of shivers down the expanse of slender spine. Who was she, then, if not a beauteous entity destined to be desired since the dawn of her age ? What was she, then, if not a goddess meant to be lusted after, wanted by all, never to be alone again ? She fought to posses Thor's love, but ultimately failed because his heart always belonged to another. With Loki, she loved him and he loved her. Thus, why was this so difficult to achieve ? The Enchantress' facade was beginning to fade away, and Amora of Asgard, the little girl afraid of being abandoned, began to surge forth.

❛ You... You mean you don't want me after all? That was all but a mere jest, a trick to appease your amusement ? ! ❜ Anger fueled her insides for a sliver of a second before fear overpowered her and she frantically blurted out. ❛ Please reconsider ! Think of all the dark passions that only I can unleash within you ! Th-the secret lusts that only I can satisfy ! I-I can give you anything you want ! ❜ She begged, but she knew that wasn't what Loki wanted. She knew that wasn't how Loki saw her, how much it pained him for her to see herself that way. But, she couldn't help it; this was all she knew.

@victoriousfidelity asked: you and i are very different. (for amora, bc sometimes stating the obvious is fun)
immediately, she doesn’t know whether to roll her eyes or scoff.  the statement reeks of superiority — despite there being no room for such.  how does one think themselves so above others when they have chosen to align themselves with the trickster himself?  not that lying and deceiving doesn’t have its place in life; certainly, loki knows how to make himself useful.  but to pretend there is a breath of honor in his actions is foolish.  and if you ask amora, only someone equally as wretched could stomach it.  you are the company you keep.
roll her eyes or scoff?  neither.  slowly, her lips pull into ever the amused smile, and a low laugh leaves her throat.
“there is no need to lie to ourselves, now, is there, sigyn?”  one leg uncrosses from the other, and amora rises in one quick, fluid motion.  she turns to face the other girl with a tilt in her head, slender fingers gliding along the chair she supports herself against.  “whilst others may be able to expertly wield a blade, sorcery has called to us instead.  we would both do anything for those we love.  neither of us mind a little mischief and excitement.  i would say we’re much more alike than you would like to believe.”
releasing the chair, sighing, amora steps closer.  one hand reaches out, her index finger catching a loose strand of ginger hair from the other and twirling it intentionally.  “you think yourself so above me,” her voice is breathy and insincerely wounded, “but you are, perhaps, just as depraved as i.”

After learning of Loki's fall from the Bifrost, most of her free time on Asgard was devoted trying to locate Loki utilizing her telepathy.  She could sense Thano's control over him, his inner turmoil, and furthermore the effects of which the mind stone had on him. She tried to communicate, though she barriers of the infinity stone were far too powerful for her. Having already failed him in that regard, she at least had to see him.  The burden 'pon Loki's shoulders was already far too much, and Amora wanted to alleviate some of that with relaxation and intimacy. Then, his words reached her.
❛ How could you say such a thing ? ! ❜ Crippling woes gutted her fragile heart, piercing ache raw unto each trembling word . A little girl yet again, afraid of losing someone that gave her a sense of self-worth, nevermore does she harbor a shield to protect her and keep her safe, to love her unconditionally. Sinking back into her cage, she did all that she could, but failed to make him stay, thus she was once again a prisoner of her own facade.
With furrowed brows, the Enchantress shook her head, strands of gold flow and sway as she draws ever nearer whilst venom-glossed lips secured into a straight line. Devotion such as this was but as a curse, a festering wound. Love was an ailment, a weakening affliction. Something that could only birth chaos. And, she welcomed it. Because, at least she was loved.

❛  You and I both know I'm not here, Loki.  ❜ She leaned close to his ear, lifting a hand and simulating petting his visage with a single finger. ❛ However, I can be if you so desire it. ❜
@lamiaviridis said : ❛ don’t scare me like that. i thought i lost you. ❜

" well perhaps you would have been better off if you had. perhaps the whole of asgard would be. " the words had come quickly, like they'd been prepared, just waiting on the tip of his tongue to be spoken. after all, what good was he to asgard, to anyone here anyway? in this cell? locked up for his crimes despite the fact that no one seemed to acknowledge that his mind had been pulled apart and messed around... - not that that erased his own responsibility but still... he supposed the cell was a fitting place for something like him, anyway. a monster.
it had all truly been a lie, hadn't it? odin always choosing thor over him, but now he knew why. now he knew why he was always cast in the shadows. because odin couldn't stand the thought of a frost giant one day taking the throne of asgard. because that wasn't his purpose. neither was being odin's son. he was nothing more than a stolen relic. a bargaining chip should the day ever come.
he turned, pacing some. he knew that she wasn't really here, but he was still avoiding looking at her. he didn't know how many people knew - about his truth. but the fact that she had come to see him told him that she didn't know. because surely if she did, she would just consider him a monster too. after all, frost giants are what parents told their kids about, things to be afraid of.
" i suggest you go, amora. being seen with a criminal wouldn't do you any good. "

LOKI - TV SERIES / SEASON 2 | DELETED SCENE | BLU RAY DISK (2024)
Over two seasons on the Marvel Studios series “Loki,” Tom Hiddleston‘s god of mischief learns to forsake his past as Marvel villain and become the hero we all knew he could be. But his past transgressions are never far from his memory.
In a deleted scene from Season 2 of the show — part of an impending 4K UHD Blu-ray release — Loki recalls just how many people “said I was a problem” while talking with his friend Mobius (Owen Wilson) over slices of key lime pie.
Loki names Thor’s compatriots on Asgard — Volstagg (Ray Stevenson), Hogan (Tadanobu Asano) and Fandral (Josh Dallas and Zachary Levi) — as well as Laufey (Colm Feore), king of the Frost Giants and Loki’s biological father, and Bor (Tony Curran), father of Odin and Loki’s adoptive grandfather. And he names Heimdall twice because, Loki says, “Heimdall was a big one!”
From Earth, Loki lists Thor’s girlfriend Jane Foster (Natalie Portman), her scientific colleague Erik Selvig (Stellan Skarsgard) and her intern Darcy Lewis (Kat Dennings). He also names S.H.I.E.L.D. director Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and agent Maria Hill (Cobie Smulders) — as well as Donald Blake, “who Thor pretends to be when he goes to Earth.”
Among these names, Loki also brings up two characters from Marvel comics that audiences have not yet encountered in the MCU. The first is Amora, also known as Enchantress, a magical Asgardian and one of Thor’s enemies. The second is another villain, Absorbing Man, who began life as a boxer named Carl Creel — until Loki poisons him with a elixir that gives him the ability to transform his body into the quality of anything he touches.
At the very end, Loki brings up Hercules, the Greek demigod who has appeared in Marvel comics since 1965. The character made his MCU debut in the post-credits scene in 2022’s “Thor: Love and Thunder,” as played by “Ted Lasso” star Brett Goldstein. In that scene, Hercules’ father, Zeus (Russell Crowe), commands his son to bring down Thor (after Thor impaled Zeus with his own lightning bolt). Marvel Studios hasn’t announced when — or if — Hercules could return to the MCU, but according to Loki, this wasn’t the first time Hercules had tussled with Odin’s family.
“Hercules — another big guy,” Loki tells Mobius. “I was a big problem for him.”

The plan of action in pursuing this particular He Who Remains Variant was simple: Amora would pose as a distraction, Loki surveyed the establishment for any of this particular Variant's henchmen and dispose of them and Mobius waited for him to cue an ambush of said Variant with an appropriate amount of Minutemen. Posing as an exotic dancer to gain the attention of a mob-affiliated millionaire was mere child's play for The Enchantress. And all was going swimmingly well, until the Variant called a few more of his men over to gawk at Amora.
Shifting a bit on his lap, she forced a smile and held out a hand in greeting, fighting back a gag when the opposing man bestowed a kiss upon the back of it. These men were armed with weaponry, though bullets barely phased Asgardian deities such as she and Loki, whom she couldn't help but take note of his ever-building envy as more men crowded around her. The multitude of hands on her bothered her more than she'd ever admit; she was used to men flaunting after her prowess and her beauty for eons, though not being touched by two at once. She merely played the part and waited until the Variant had his guard down so she could enchant him with a kiss Loki hopefully wouldn't see.
Though, that moment never came due to the onslaught of bodies hitting the brothel floors as the group of men, the Variant included, slumped over and Loki was the only one left standing, hurrying over to her and grabbing her arm. With a tug, she was off the Variant's lap and walking alongside Loki towards the exit of the establishment. She barely had time to process all of what had happened, though she yanked her arm from his grasp and demanded to know the absurdity of his actions. He claimed they were getting "too insistent" and could tell she'd been afraid. This, for some reason, angered her.
Tumblr media
❛  Afraid ? The Enchantress holds no fear, especially not towards Midgardian fools such as these. I had the situation under control, and I was more than nearing my opportunity to strike my target. I am no weakling, Loki. I am more than capable of saving myself.  ❜

Projection of oneself smiled at his words, sliding off the arm of the chair in which Loki sat if only to stand before him, bending down to grab either of his hands and lifting them with her own, wrapping them around her waist. Nestling curvaceous frame into his lap, blonde tendrils draped over her shoulders and brushed against the expanse of his chest as she leaned forward, coiling lithe arms around him and peppering his neck with kisses that were as real as their minds made it. Amora remained seated, for now, reveling in the heat of his desire. Akin to sunrays kissing her skin, leaving droplets of radiance on her that pools into her cheeks, adorning her complexation with a rosette hue.
Emeralds flutter closed and she leans back into the couch, smiling to herself as joyful giggle slips past lush lips. The deity probably mistook her silence as avoiding his request, though the divinity was more than accepting him; she was feeling him, his love and lust, his yearning and his desire. She felt all of it building, swelling within him, mimicking the smoldering lavas of Muspelhiem. It burned her, ignited her, disintegrated her senses into ash. The violent pulsating of his heat coating her insides and enshrouding her being strong enough to make her toes curl, her eyes roll back, and her vocal cords ache with repeated cries of pleasure. That is, if Loki were the one in control here. He wasn't, The Enchantress was.
Tumblr media
Voluptuous form shifting yet again as she straightens her posture, meeting the god's eyes as if she were seeing beautiful pools of green for the first time after being snapped out of a blinding trance. ❛  I shall toy with you for however long I please. You are a God. You can withstand it, can you not ? One would think the God of Mischief relishes in a game of cat and mouse, catch and release. Or does he merely dislike being the one who's caught ?  ❜ She purposefully paused, her gaze never leaving the others'. One would think she were waiting for an answer, but as soon as she saw his lips part to speak, she cut him off. ❛ No matter. Perhaps I will cease my toying with you once I am engraved into the very essence of your mind, body, and soul, leaving no room for another. ❜
Tumblr media
loki had, over the course of his life, gotten rather good with his poker face-- keeping expression neutral, not letting certain things show. it was a protective action at most, though sometimes was simply an act to throw someone off course for his own amusement. for a moment, he'd let it slip. let amora see through him, even deeper, into his mind. an openness so few were ever really allowed.
but then she teases. then she goes and does things that, admittedly, he adores. but he smirks a little before, back up it goes. the plain expression. the distance in his eyes.
though he imagines she still senses it. the way he burns for her. how much of a wildfire it could be made into with such ease.
Tumblr media
his gaze moves up, and, only after a long moment, does he allow some of that heat to show as it flickers over the illusions form. it's a momentary thing, brief, before his sharp attention returns to amora directly. legs spread and he leans forward, arms resting upon knees.
"how long will you toy with me? while you know i adore a little playing, dragging things out, haven't i waited enough?"

I'm in a mood to break some stuff so let's talk about how much I hated Loki S2's deleted scene. (I'm going to rant. This is an anti-Loki series post.)
We'll go through this one by one.
Variant!Loki is fresh out (somewhat) of the Battle of New York so, whatever happened Thor: TW onwards don't apply to Larry here.
He is the problem? But how? Didn't he attack Jotunheim Odin's approval. So, he tries to prove that he too could be like Thor (who was in fact very much in favour of killing frost giants since childhood). Also, didn't Loki work under Thanos' coercion (read: tortured because of the way he looked in Thor 1 post-credit scene & in the opening scene of The Avengers) to get the Tesseract? (1) (2) (3) What is this scene even? The start is just so jarring.
Let's go through the roll call:
Nick Fury: Well, he did indirectly call him a problem because Loki was threatening to invade Earth. So, yeah. But directly, he never called him a problem.
Erik Selvig: He was enthralled by Loki via Mind Stone. I don't think in any one of those scenes he was ever shown talking to Selvig which would imply that the latter even said to him that. I think the one time Erik Selvig bad-mouthed Loki was in T: TW where he was relieved that Loki was dead.
Bor: So, I'm going to admit this was tricky but, hear me out on this one. Bor is Odin's father. Odin became the king only after his death. Alright. So, if we are going according to the timeline by the time Odin went to war with Jotuns and consequently adopted baby Loki, he was already the king of Asgard. Bor was dead when Odin went to that war. Thus, Loki never met his adopted grandfather. SO, APPARENTLY, A DEAD ASGARDIAN CAN TALK TO LOKI? HOW COOL IS THE FACT THAT LOKI HAD THE ABILITY TO COMMUNE WITH THE DEAD?! (/s)
Laufey: Another can of worms, I suppose. So, in Thor 1, it had been shown that after the war in 925 AD, the Asgardian contact with Jotunheim had been forbidden. Loki let some of them in to ruin/delay Thor's coronation. The one time he met Laufey, they made a deal, never once Laufey told that Loki was the problem. Laufey, canonically (Thor 1), never even knew that Loki was his son.
Amora: I, for once, think that it would've been cool to see her, either in the series or in Thor 4. But it is often the fate of MCU women to either be a footnote in the men's stories or completely ruined by the narrative, or the writers' incompetence makes them unlikable (only a few are well-written female characters). So, I'm happy about the fact that the queen is still untouched.
Jane Foster & Darcy Lewis: Jane met him once in Thor: TW. During Loki's invasion of NY, she was hiding in Norway with Darcy. Jane had only met Loki because she went to Asgard for Aether's cure. Darcy, on the other hand (even tho I love the way he spoke her name and Tasertricks is my OTP), had never met him. She heard about him, she saw him destroy New Mexico via Destroyer but she had never met him to explicitly say that he was the problem.
Maria Hill: When did she even say that he was the problem? When she was chasing him?!
Heimdall (Heimdall was a big one, he got very upset): Okay, yeah, I get that. Heimdall & him had a long history. Again, I have no idea about their dynamics. And whenever we see them interacting, the animosity is very visible since Thor 1.
Warriors Three (Fandral, Volstagg, Hogun): Again, the history thing here too.
Absorbing Man: So, AoS canon? Also, when did Loki come down to Earth to fight the absorbing man and why I didn't know about it. When did pre-Avengers Loki meet him? I want to know.
Donald Blake (who Thor pretends to be when he goes to Earth): So, this made my eyebrows twitch for the reason that I saw Thor 1 recently (to add to a Darcy post) and everything he said about Donald Blake was just plain wrong. Thor took up the name of Donald Blake (1) when he was given the shirt by Jane--real Donald Blake was Jane's ex before Thor, (2) Darcy made a false driver's licence which mentioned his name as Donald Blake and not Thor, and (3) when Erik came to retrieve Thor, he called him Donald Blake. So, if Thor didn't choose this persona & was given to him by his Earth friends, then how could he had pretended to be him? Also, this name was only used in Thor 1, after Avengers 1, everybody knew him as Thor, his real name.
Hercules: Don't know much about this one here because (1) he's introduced in a post-credit scene & (2) in a Thor film I hate passionately. But he's as old as Thor & Loki, so, a history might be there. We don't know. The TVA series didn't show exactly how they were connected.
So, y'all might be thinking Sol, why are you whining and moaning, it is a deleted scene after all??
You see the writers wrote this scene. The writers who should've, no, must've made themselves familiar with the lore, WROTE THIS BULLSHIT SCENE. AND THE DIRECTOR(S) FILMED IT.
Also, Loki's series could have been the show in that he could've interacted with the people he mentioned but he didn't because it wasn't truly a Loki series, it was a TVA series.
I'm livid.

Analyzing Loki's Love Interests (Canon and Foreshadowed and Not-So-Canon)
As always, spoilers for Loki, a multitude of comics, and the MCU. I'm focusing on primarily canon love interests and implied to potentially become canon love interests, with one glaring exception because I think they deserve to be included here.
Women Love Interests
Amora: leads Loki on and then betrays him (Where Mischief Lies)
Lorelei: betrays Loki in Agent of Asgard at least twice (and she's made appearances as Loki's love interest in other comics, too, but none that I've read). It should also probably be noted that Amora and Lorelei are sisters and both have also dated Thor in other comics.
Wanda: brief but a bit of a lead-on in Scarlet Witch 8. I wouldn't say she betrayed him, though.
Leah: they're children, mostly, so there's not explicitly romantic scenes. But Kid Loki is the reincarnation of his previous self, and Leah is a clone of Hela (which makes things weird, since Hela is inconsistently acknowledged to be Loki's daughter in the comics). Leah essentially betrays him, too. (Journey into Mystery)
Sylvie: Of course, she betrays Loki at the end of season one. On the one hand, it may be worse, because unlike all but Lorelei (of the comics I know), she led him on to the point of actually kissing him. Now, I will concede that she doesn't actually lead him on throughout the show (by my definition at least), so in this, she's certainly better than Amora or Leah. I think a few times she tried letting him down gently. But if you only look at the point of betrayal, I believe she and Lorelei are the only ones who kissed him, though Amora may have, too.
Men Love Interests
Theo: The only canon male love interest on the list; trusts Loki, believes he's better than the stories say, sympathizes with him and his feelings of being outcasted. He's courageous and determined and snarky, but with Loki he's ultimately soft.
Mobius: He knows Loki, from an academic standpoint, probably better than anyone. And then he gets to know Loki off paper, so to speak, and it rewrites everything he thought he understood, about this specific person, about himself, about reality itself. But his compassion remains, his kindness remains, and he directs it toward Loki when he needs it most. And he discovers he believes in Loki, and his potential, and his ability to dismantle everything everyone expects of him, at a moment when Loki's not even sure he believes in himself. And the trailer for season two means one of two things: One, if the Mobius from the finale is not our Mobius, then Mobius very quickly moves heaven and earth (or rather, alternate timelines) to get to his Loki. Or two, if the Mobius from the finale is a memory-wiped Mobius, then even when he doesn't know Loki, he's still determined to help him. (Or Loki was able to restore his memories, but even in the finale we can still see this care Mobius takes with a frightened stranger.)
Thor: I think the way Thor feels for Loki is clear (whether you interpret it as brotherly alone or romantic). In Ragnarok, you have his line "I thought the world of you." And you have the many times in the comics Thor claims him as his own. "You are my brother, and I love you." In Original Sin, it's so interesting to hear their language very subtly cause a conflict between them. When referring to Angela, Thor always says "our sister" and Loki always says "your sister." To the point that Thor actually calls him out on it once, though I don't think Loki really addresses it. And I think Loki's wording is an attempt more to distance himself from Odin and all the shit he caused, and now Freyja, too, after the betrayal of the All-Mother in securing Old Loki's promised future at the cost of Loki's penance and redemption. And then you have that moment in King Thor, my favorite comic panel, when the Necrosword is swallowing them in darkness and in the very last moment they reach for each other. Because Thor will never give up on Loki. And, try as he might, Loki cannot hate Thor. Not permanently.
I feel like Loki's writers, when they give him these women lovers, almost do it to spite him. They think this is the only type of woman to catch Loki's attention and that haha, Loki's been outmatched by a girl (if misogynist) or diva (if they worship the ground this woman walks on). This idea that the only interesting or believable romantic subplot for Loki is with a woman who will ultimately turn on him. Once again, in all aspects of his narrative, Loki's stuck doing the same thing over and over again. Except this seems like the one thing all writers are willing to let him keep up the cycle, and be seemingly okay with upholding the cycle.
In the case of canon, an argument could be made about this kind of woman (and all of these women are very different except in that they betray him eventually) being Loki's type. There's a rather sick sense of irony in being aware of the narrative, yet being so attracted to a certain quality that he keeps sowing the seeds of his own destruction even in knowing how it's going to end.
Of course, like I've said, this doesn't mean Loki can't love a woman. This doesn't mean I don't want Loki to ever have a girlfriend. I just want Loki to have a love interest for once who isn't going to hurt him before the novel or issue or season ends. I don't even care what gender they are. I just want him to be loved. Because he keeps insisting that he isn't and that he's incapable of it. And I'm tired of that story. And I think he might be, too.

Optics of verdant study the man's change in demeanor, though internally cringing from the obscene assault brought unto her sense of taste. Despite her distaste for the poor attempt at a joke and the fact that another mortal was taking another God from her, mendacious would it be for her to claim he wasn't trying to connect with her. That never came as an easy feat without a price having to be paid, usually at her expense.
A solemn expression decorates the seductress' visage as the analyst's tone of voice shifts to one of mourning. She could sense his love for Loki. His hesitance to let that love be known because what would be the outcome and would it be better or worse than the life he'd already grown accustomed to? Amora and Mobius were similar in that regard. Though she despised the idea of sharing Loki, she found herself pitying and sympathizing with the man across from her more than envying him in that moment.
A projection of both Mobius and Amora's love for Loki was conjured by her, in that moment of unspoken, mutual understanding of one another. The life-like projection of Loki didn't talk, but he smiled at both of them and happily ate his pie. And, for Amora, that was enough. She took another spoonful of pie into her mouth and nodded thoughtfully.
Tumblr media
❛ It would appear you were right, after all. Loki would consume something like this. ❜
Tumblr media
yeah, it had been a... poor attempt at a joke. at his usual brand of quips and comments but... was it really that surprising that it didn't quite have that spark that it usually would have...? he hadn't exactly been all that good at hiding the fact that since what had happened... since loki had taken his place out there with the timelines, with the branches... he hadn't exactly been his usual self.
and maybe that was silly. maybe it was selfish. nothing had ever been established, he'd never even put things into words because... well, how would he? how would that work? it didn't matter now, did it? loki was doing what he felt was right and necessary. he was doing it for the good of everyone, for the good of the timelines, but... mobius missed him.
all the adventure and spark and colour that loki had brought to his previously repetitive and somewhat mundane life...
and at first, he was caught off by the sudden, so life-like appearance of loki in the seat between the two of them. - but it wasn't rocket science to soon realise that it was amora that had somehow conjured that projection of him. ...that being said, he still couldn't help but focus on the way this loki only seemed to focus on amora. couldn't help the ridiculous spark of jealousy that it brought up in him.
" yeah. he did. " response came with much less of an attempt to be chipper than previously, and now he was the one simply prodding at his slice of pie.

We NEED to talk about Loki: Where Mischief Lies
Tumblr media
Written by Mackenzi Lee in 2019, Loki: Where Mischief Lies is in my opinion an amazing book and has way better representation than some other Loki content (not naming names but *cough* Loki season 1 *cough*). I never see people talk about this book which is honestly such a shame because it has some great storytelling. It does not get the recognition it deserves and if you are on the fence as to whether to read it or not, let me give my perspective!
(Only very small spoilers ahead, no big plot points.)
The characters
Loki in this book has me in an absolute chokehold. I’m sorry the heels? The nail polish? The Everything?? No, but for real, I think it does a really good job of portraying Loki in a new light but he still is Loki, he has the same humour and acts like how I imagine Loki would in these situations. In the book, Loki is a teenager and I think it would fit right into the MCU. I like how it gives a new spin on his character but it is still recognizable as the Loki we all know and love. I really like Amora’s character as well, I can’t say too much without spoiling but I like the way she acts in the second half of the book. And then of course we have Teo, he is amazing, he is literally everything to me. He is really kind and in every scene he wasn’t in, I wish he was. His relationship with Loki is so fun to read and I love how it develops over the course of the book.
The plot
It honestly feels like a fanfic (in the best way possible). I can’t say much without spoiling (sorry aargh) but it felt unique to other superhero stories. It was so lovely to read something innovative and new and not the same old superhero story we are used to. I also enjoyed the way the plot was set up and how it slowly escalated. I love how Loki’s chaotic personality, Amora’s manipulative tendencies and Theo’s kindness reacted and impacted different scenarios.
Representation
I really like how Loki is presenting himself in a more feminine way(nail polish, heels, his behaviour). My little headcanon is that this is him discovering himself and exploring being gender fluid for the first time. I also really like how his sexuality is actually explored, unlike in Loki, where it is not just mentioned and then ignored. I obviously can’t say much without spoiling but if you have read it you know what I’m talking about.
These were my thoughts without any spoilers (I wish I could say more)! I hope you will give Loki: Where Mischief Lies a chance if you haven’t already, I promise you will like it! Thank you for reading and have a great day<3
