A pianist in a room of the old hospital. Photo by ivanbrns on Instagram.
The Hospital de la Santa Creu i Sant Pau was built in 1905 in Barcelona (Catalonia). Designed by Lluís Domènech i Montaner, one of the most famous architects of the Catalan modernist style, it was a public hospital designed to offer patients a healthy and beautiful environment with good air circulation and natural light. It was a pioneering hospital in many regards, including underground heating.
Nowadays, hospitals use a lot of machinery that made the building obsolete. In 2009, a new modern hospital was built to replace this one. Now, the modernist building can be visited and is also the setting of cultural events such as concerts.

Casa Lleó Morera to take photos.
I was doing a photo project on the Catalan architect Lluís Domènech i Montaner, and as the first floor was unoccupied, I was graciously allowed to take photos for the project. I had visited several Domenech i Montaner buildings before, but I was not prepared for the beauty that opened up before me in Casa Lleó Morera - I was astounded every time I turned around!
Located at Passeig de Gracia 35 in the Eixample district of Barcelona, Casa Lleó Morera is part of the famous "block of discord". Domènech i Montaner was appointed to remodel an old building. In common with many of his other projects, the architect worked with a host of artists to create this incredible building. Lluís Bru and Mario Maragliano were responsible of the mosaic work, Eusebi Arnau made the sculptures, Antoni Rigalt i Blanch created the breathtaking stained glass, and Gaspar Homar designed the decoration and the furniture.
The building was subject to several alterations by artists who wanted to rebel against the ideals of modernisme architecture, and the building sustained further damage during the Spanish civil war. Thankfully, the building was restored in three stages - first in the mid 1980's, again in 1992 and most recently in 2006.
