**It’s a privilege** to look forward to the launch of the new iPhone 16, while people in the DRC face modern-day slavery, mistreatment, and abuse as they mine the very minerals that power our cherished phones. Zoya Reebye, founder of Let’s Talk WOC, sheds light on the unimaginable hardships women in the Democratic Republic of the Congo endure in the mines. From being underpaid to facing a rising rate of sexual assault, these women live through a humanitarian crisis the world must not ignore. Even as teenagers, **we can make an impact** by amplifying the voices of those working in the DRC, raising awareness, and holding companies accountable for their actions. 1. **Raise awareness** about the situation in the DRC. The more people know, the more pressure we can put on those responsible. 2. **Be mindful** of your consumer choices. 3. **Do your research.** Investigate the supply chains of companies you buy from, choose refurbished or secondhand electronics, and recycle your devices responsibly. Let’s strive for a world where our technology is not built on exploitation.

Paulina Bryan’s vision for the Live Lawyer App @livelawyerapp stemmed from her son’s frequent police stops after buying a new car. He would call her, anxious and unsure how to handle the situation, sparking her idea to create an app that connects users with lawyers via video chat during police encounters. Paulina, in a moment of frustration and creativity, mused that it would be ideal if one could Skype a lawyer in such situations. This idea sparked the beginning of a journey that would take several years and immense dedication. In 2014, Paulina began the patent process for the Live Lawyer App. However, the path was not easy. Tragically, in 2016, her son was murdered, a devastating loss that strengthened her resolve to bring her vision to life. Paulina channels her grief and determination into developing an app that aims to provide immediate legal representation for individuals stopped by the police. The Live Lawyer App operates on a simple yet powerful principle: if stopped by the police, users can activate the app to connect with a lawyer via a FaceTime-like feature. This immediate legal support can help navigate the complexities and anxieties of police encounters, ensuring that users’ rights are protected. The app also alerts pre-selected contacts of the user’s location, adding an extra layer of safety.

I wish I could see more successful and underprivileged Mexican/latino artists to look up to. Feels like everyone who made it real big in the modern online art space are white people who grew up in the suburbs or with fairly stable upbringings that allows them to pour all their energy into their career. idk I just want reassurance I can one day have my own apartment without fighting for my life I guess
