The reason why this scene resonated with me is the way it circled back to their very beginning. To their foundation. This is a call back to all the different times Lucy showed Tim kindness, and this, from the very first day… And how it was those moments of kindness that chipped away at Tim's armor, creating this bond between them in the process… Something that has not been acknowledged - not this way. This almost feels like a new beginning… But with their roles reversed : Lucy is now the one who is guarded, hiding in a corner, with her walls up and still a bit angry (rightfully so) while Tim is the one trying to reach out and promising to show her that same kindness.

And what makes this actually romantic to me is that… it's not trying to be. This scene isn't about their relationship. This is about their friendship first. Because before they got together, they were friends (despite Tim's protests). This was their foundation. A foundation that was shattered in the aftermath of their breakup. So I find it more meaningful that he is trying to show up for her on that level first. To show her how much he appreciates all the things she has done for him over the years - in whatever ways she allows (an important distinction). He isn't trying to get her back. He's trying to show her how grateful he is for her and what she has done for him, something that she definitely needed to hear. This is about what she deserves. And I think there's something inherently romantic in this.

Agreed, it feels so much more real to me this way. Especially since we already had the "passionate kiss in a dire situation" and "almost hookup" tropes in 5x01. It had to be different to show the progression, the growing awareness of their feelings. It's no longer just a heat of the moment situation. The thing I always loved with Chenford is their ability to communicate. We don't really have long period of miscommunication, it usually ends within an episode or the next one. Makes sense that the second they are back together in the shop, they manage to find a way back to themselves and talk.

Honestly, I love the way they brought Tim and Lucy together in 5x08/5x09. It was mature, it was well-communicated, and it leaves room for a lot of potential in the coming episodes.

I'd rather it happen this way and let us see them grow from a very uncomplicated and healthy Point A into whatever their Point B will be.

I've seen so many couples become canon via in-the-moment passionate hookups, yelling matches, etc. This feels like a breath of fresh air, in a way.

Are those little dolls made to look like 3zun as animals in the most recent comic? I need to know how/when Nie Mingjue got those. Are they gifts from Lan Xichen or Nie Huaisang? Did Jin Guangyao sew them himself and stuff them full of evil talismans in case the song didn't work? So many possibilities.

The 3zun dolls were a self-indulgent reference to this (previously abandoned) doodle! As for who made them in universe? I'll leave it up for interpretation B*)

I have to say, that last scene between Lucy and Tim brought me some kind of peace and comfort… and I really didn't expect that. At. All. I just love how Lucy stood up for herself and set her boundaries when Tim was started to pretend this was just another day at the office. But more than that, it's how this conversation (or lack thereof) actually seemed to have brought her some sort of closure. Not the one she hoped, clearly. But she finally realised that what Tim was going through was so much deeper than she thought. And she finally accepted that it was something that he had to do on his own - for now. For someone who has always tried to help people, him even more so, admitting that he needs help from someone else besides her is a huge moment. This is Lucy 'has no quit' Chen we are talking about.

And that was the exact wake-up call Tim needed. Because he finally realised that if he doesn't do the work, he is about to lose her for good. Not just as a girlfriend. But lose her completely. His little smile, the tears in his eyes when he sees her… The fact that he was trying to pretend that they could go back to 'normal'… The man was spiraling but didn't even understand how bad that was until THAT moment. To see her 'give up' on him was really what shook him to the core. And finally accept that yes, he needs help. We know that Lucy's opinion is the one that has always mattered the most to him, that she has often been able to get through to him like no one else… and she did again. She doesn't know it yet...

Sorry but we were speaking about history in a part of one of my classes and when the Vatican came on. I had to draw the sad dog man.

Machete is now immortalized in my class notes. It’s in spanish by the way, which is kind of funnily appropriate considering latin is very close to spanish.

If anyone struggles with this problem but still wants to have a sketchbook full of full pieces, I've found that it is helpful to have a "pretty" sketchbook that you devote to art that you consider to be big pieces, like paintings and other stuff, one that you feel free to decorate to your hearts content, but it is absolutely ESSENTIAL to have an "imperfect sketchbook" as your main sketchbook. Make sure that the "pretty" sketchbook is used for special pieces but never more than the sketchbook you can just draw freely in. Save the "pretty" sketchbook for pieces that you show to others or post online, but have your "imperfect" sketchbook be just for you. Treat it like a diary.

If you really want to go further, I would even go as far as to suggest having a separate third sketchbook for learning purposes only, though you only really need two. Have the "imperfect" sketchbook be uglier intentionally, let yourself scrawl on the pages to get your ideas out, have it be on thin cheaper paper but have plenty of it. Don't be afraid to rip the pages a little, scribble until the paper tears, let the ink and paint bleed until the pages stick together, whatever. Let the art be MESSY. Cover it in stickers, washy tape, etc, but make each page feel loved even if it isn't meant to look pretty. Let it have random pages of notes, doodles, maybe even glue in some little pieces of love from your day to day to treat it like a scrapbook. Use this for drawings that look like they could go in the "pretty" sketchbook, but surround it with stuff only for you. If there's ever a page in either sketchbook with art you don't love, scrapbook something over it with something you do like. Make ugly mistakes on purpose and decorate them, so that your other mistakes feel just as loved, because as artists we are always learning and it's important to cherish what helps us create.

i don't like to yuck people's yum but i have to say that my least favorite thing to come from the current state of Artists on the Internet is the idea of a sketchbook as something nice and pretty and shareable. like i love me a notebook full of gorgeous art don't get me wrong but that is NOT what a sketchbook is. a sketchbook is my friend who i carry around everywhere like a purse chihuahua. it is the physical manifestation of my notes app. it is the container into which i wring my brain out. it is my therapist. and most of all it is filled with absolutely terrible sketches that should never see the light of day.
