I'm gonna fucking puke apparently Palomita's litterbox was a complete scam. I did research, I checked reviews, I made sure that it was a reputable product and apparently the hellworld we live in is SO post truth that the company was CHANGING THE REVIEWS and deleting the bad ones

I was so lucky that the damn thing was such a piece of shit it didn't even WORK and I didn't know how lucky I was until @polyhexian pointed it out.

This product has KILLED many cats and a video expose was posted two weeks ago

I feel so sick.

PSA: BAD LITTERBOX

i don't usually make posts like this, but this is a truly upsetting topic to me as a lifelong cat owner, so i feel i have a duty to share my knowledge with others.

there is a type of automatic litterbox for cats being sold that is EXTREMELY dangerous and has killed numerous cats through blunt force trauma, suffocation, etc. this litterbox is being sold under different brand names and logos, so i will include the picture of the model and two links to informational videos with more evidence and eloquence than i am able to provide.

please consider not having this type of litterbox in your home for your furry friends. me and my 16 year old tortie, puddy, want the best for all your kitty friends

This is genuinely so horrifying, these robots have faulty sensors and motors that are far too strong to be even reasonably used in most household objects, and what's worse is that the company creating these robots continues to put up fronts to keep selling these deadly litter boxes for cheap prices

If you see a listing for these self-cleaning litterboxes on ANY website, I implore you:

Do not buy them. These litterboxes have actually been trapping and ending the lives of cats and kittens due to their dangerous design. The original Amazon listing is gone, but this company (or group of companies) keeps rebranding and even editing negative reviews in order to cover their tracks.

I encourage you to watch the video. It explains things better than I ever could and has demonstrations as well as stories from owners whose cats were harmed.

hi! i'm very curious about prettylitter's color-based health monitoring system. do any mods have experience using it, with clients who've tried or use it, or know of any research that supports/refutes its claims? i find its premise intriguing, & would be willing to try mixing it with our regular litter just to get the benefit of seeing the color/s without having to rely on it entirely for cleaning & odor– IF it genuinely works as advertised. i appreciate yalls knowledge and input, tysm

I don't think there's anything *wrong* with using it. However, it is well known that when given a choice, cats prefer unscented, clumping clay litter where Pretty Litter is non-clumping plastic litter. Additionally, I have had multiple clients (both with cats and litter trained ferrets/rabbits) bring in samples after their Pretty Litter indicates that something is abnormal, just for the urine to be normal. If you're looking for something to use as a "topper", Royal Canin has come out with a hematuria (blood in the urine) indicator as well that is intended for use as a topper/mix-in as opposed to the entire box of litter. I tried it with one of my cats when one of the reps gave us samples, and it didn't change color, but of course my cat was confirmed to NOT have hematuria during a regular urinalysis, so...

Do with that information what you will.

As a cat owner, and just someone who cares for safety in general, please be weary of this product. Do not get a self-cleaning litterbox that looks similar to a space helmet.

And I will give a warning, as there are mentions of a cat and a kitten who had died from this, and just seeing the testing with the dolls feels sickening.

This is a death trap. No safety sensors, needs an update for even a horrible one, and has killed cats and kittens

Even if your cat is able to get out, it's still dangerous. Maybe their tale lingered in for too long. Or your dog comes sniffing around it. Or your kid got curious or accidentally dropped a toy in there.

If an adult can barely get their hand out, imagine what it could do to a child.

And as the guy says, this shouldn't put you off of still getting a self-cleaning litter box. Some people get them because they have a disability where it makes it harder for them to clean a regular box. Just do your research, specifically look for videos testing the product out, and if you do get it then use something to test it. Because this thing is nothing but a cat saw trap.
