seeing a linnie at the berkeley bird shop a few weeks ago has got me thinking about pet birds again. I was sad but did not get it because i know shops are bad place to support and also I was afraid to jump into it. The shop would not say who the breeder was unless I bought him. i am considering a linnie breeder in the northern part of the state, though. I would foster, but suspect I'm not going to see any lineolated parakeets at the local bird group.

So that means I'd have to figure out how to prep for a bird myself. I know the basics so it seems like it should be straightforward, but my anxiety is putting "buts" in front of everything. I wish that would shut off for two seconds but gotta work with it.

My landlord is even willing to change our policy to two birds if I'm afraid of one being lonely. He didn't want any pets originally, so it's nice to know our landlord trusts us not to mess up the place. Maybe I'll see if I can chat with some current bird owners.

I had some misophonia issues with the cockatiels i fostered in 2021 (constant calling) but not sure if that is a long term thing and if i could eventually be okay with it (I filter out dog barks pretty well after having had 5 dogs).

Joel is part linnie (aka barred parakeet). He can fly with his wings similarly to Grian, and he also has little wing-things by his ears.

Vaiya is really going through it and by "it" i mean moulting!

And they're very pretty, but she really doesn't like it when you pick up fallen feathers. Those are hers and she knows it. Even ones she drops (no matter how small!) she doesn't want you to have. If you do try to pick them up she'll run towards you and grab them out of your fingers in a very irritated way...

this bird has grasped the concept of private property.

Captain Calico and “First Mate” Peep Squeak

Captain of the Feral Dolphin, Diana Calico, formerly Diana-Emia von Angora.

A mercurial authority, she rules her ship with an iron fist and a hardy laugh. She keeps her parrot Peep Squeek close, despite having lost an eye to the wee beast. He’s not Uplifted, but she talks as though he were.

Stuck guardian a Sealing Stone on the Dolphin. She wanted to flee Naia and take the stone to the ends of the world, but the Darklands perpetual storm waylaid her.

Spending her days fighting the waters the Captain spends her nights at The Lucky Catch with her crew.
