Was tempted to share my ocs but they kinda suck and aren't turning out how I imagined so:

An unrealistic notes challenge so I can justify to myself never posting them! So here we go!

1000 notes: I'll post my drawings of the three main ocs and like general info like names and stuff. (Done. check here).

2000 notes: I'll post their lore.

3000 notes: You get some other characters and side characters.

4000 notes: I'll post an actual storyline with them. Like short comics or short stories. Probably a combo of both or something.

5000 notes: I'll post drawings of a different set of ocs I have. (Glad this will never happen because I can't draw them for the life of me)

6000 notes: Lore for that set

7000 notes: More characters from that group.

8000 notes: They also get a plot line

And if this reaches 15,000 notes I'll start looking around to see if I can find someone to help me turn the second set of ocs into a game like I originally imagined them as. (Will never happen because i have a very specific idea for it in mind and I don't forsee anyone wanting to do it. And it would be too complicated for me to just bs through. I'd probably forget the idea by the time I learned enough game development skills.)

Ive noticed that your comic often reacts to current events, which sometimes change the course of the narrative (like in the current arc) than something that would be set in the exact year that you stared Dumbing of Age. How much do you plan in advance, or is your plot loose enough that current events can fit into gaps, or do you let the ever-shifting political landscape take over and change your story entirely? Whatever the answer is, I am loving it.

Dumbing of Age is set in whichever current year it is at the time. Whenever the real-world calendar swaps from December 31 to January 1, the present year of the comic moves forward an integer.

Admittedly, this isn't something that's always tenable. Covid-19 happened, and 2020 was a magical year for Dumbing of Age where nobody was sent home as colleges were shut down. By the time I would've gotten around to writing characters having to go home or isolate in place, colleges would've started opening up again! And so sometimes you gotta close your eyes tightly and grunt through.

This trusting in, uh, an eventual return to normal-ish may become increasingly less sustainable as... World Happens. Like, I don't think Leslie's class or even the major of Gender Studies currently exists anymore at Indiana University. They shut those down two weeks ago because DEI. Sliding timescales work until they don't?

And the world is so in flux right now that it's, like, impossible to plan for. What will be missing or destroyed from the real world by the time a year from now the strips I'm writing will publish? Is trying to anticipate Awful Changes and making those changes ahead of time in my story just Complying In Advance? Is ignoring any specific parts of it in service of the ongoing story living in a Sanitized Liberal Dreamscape?

A very different problem from Whoops They Renovated The Read Residence Hall To Look Completely Different.

My best attempt -- which may be flawed -- is to find the feel of the world, the zeitgeist, or at least choose from among those things the stuff that's unlikely to change. I wrote these current strips 9 months ago, before the United States Presidential election. But I knew that regardless of who won or lost, police were still going to break up and attack campus protests -- because, hey, they did. They were. And next year if Trump won, those same situations would be drastically worse. But the underlying feelings are still there. That was something that was not going to change.

Regrettably, campus protests and police/military action on them is kind of an evergreen college experience. The Kent State Massacre was 9 years before I was born. And the world hasn't really changed much in that aspect since then.

I think the only thing that'd ever actually end those entirely is just the dissolution of universities entirely. Which, uh,

This is something I’ve wondered for a long time. Does anyone have any idea exactly why William doesn’t like Michael and doesn’t want to accept him as his son? Especially because he decided to have two more kids. What was it about Michael that was different? Does his similar appearance have something to do with it? As interesting as I find William I’ve always found it a bit hard to get inside his mind. But also we weren’t given an overwhelming amount of information about this relationship which I hate because it’s one of the most important relationships in the story lmao. Their similar appearance is emphasized over and over and over to a point where Michael ended up *literally* purple because Scott wanted to get that point across extra hard. But at the same time, the idea that William dislikes Michael came from The Immortal and the Restless (I think)? I was actually talking to someone about how Michael being so uniquely hated by him is unanimously agreed upon but was wondering where exactly that came from. Is there anything other than the Immortal and the Restless? I would love to know if there is.

Like most, I’m of the belief that William hated him enough to not even want to be associated with him (The Immortal and the Restless does make a good case for that) and considering William’s treatment of his other children throughout the franchise I think it’s basically canon that he’s an abuse victim. But I was thinking about it and I was just like, why? It’s not like William is a great father to Elizabeth and crying child but why is Michael singled out? Why does William wish Michael WASN’T his son? Williamheads I would love to hear your thoughts.

Even their voices are similar and P.J. Heywood (William and Michael’s voice actor is the same person which I’m sure was a deliberate decision) had this to say about that, and I have not been able to get this off of my mind:

“And in terms of playing the two, it does allow you to explore two sides of… what would otherwise be very similar people if it wasn’t for their characters. You know, William’s dead and shambling around. Michael’s dead and shambling around.”

I just want to know more about this relationship. I mean I’ve inferred based on what we know plus some logic how Michael was treated by William and how he feels about William, but I still haven’t quite figured out the reasons behind the way William feels about Michael. If there even is one.

P.J. Heywood also said that it sounds to him like Michael is trying to win William’s approval which I thought was worth putting here too since it counts as one of those crumbs of information.

I kind of understand what he means like, I feel like Michael might still want that deep down even if he hates William. But you know when I listen to the beginning of that speech it always reads to me as “I did what you asked me to and I succeeded, are you happy?” coming from someone who has never been able to do anything right for the person he’s speaking to. But I think there’s a tone shift, several actually, but specifically right at “There’s only one thing left for me to do. I’m going to come find you” that is threatening. It always sounded that way to me especially with the implication that Michael is the one who started the FNAF 3 fire (I think the “I’m going to come find you” is the warning and the scene we’re viewing is a flash forward to the aftermath) but I’ve seen other people say they don’t read it as threatening and I just. I like that we’ve all listened to that and tried to interpret emotions. My favorite one is after he says “they thought I was you” he makes this quiet noise and I still cannot decide if it’s a laugh at how ridiculous and unfortunate the situation is, or if it’s some sort of scoff from frustration at that fact.

Last thing I’ll put here, I’m not really a big fan of the new FNAF stuff but I did at least watch a playthrough of the new one. It didn’t resonate with me so I didn’t look very far into that Moon thing but this.

And in my mind, I’m immediately thinking of that toy phone in FNAF 4 and the question in the survival logbook asking Michael if his favorite toy was the phone. Maybe there’s another meaning for this line or something else it’s meant to represent that I don’t know due to not looking into it but it’s a question I’d been meaning to ask so it’s worth putting here.

Finally, an updated big stupid map of where we are. Now including flags!

Since im not going super hard with this scifi, all the planetary stuff is kinda just stuff that I want to be there+the barest bit of 'accuracy' for flavor. I'll have to work on it more later.

The three moons are all smaller than our moon, but combined they have a similar stabilizing effect. The rings are angled at approx 23 degrees with the planets axial tilt (the moons aren’t tho). The rings are mostly rock, and spread out far into very thin layers for some reason (meaning they don’t block/reflect that much light). Because they still have a lot of metal debris in them, though, they can still be pretty shiny. ( slightly increasing the intensity of winter and summer as they cast shadows/concentrate more light). You can see them from pretty much anywhere on the planet day or night (but at the equator they just look like a line). The rings and debris is (part of) what makes it so hard to keep satellites up there (and makes it much harder to try and leave the planet….).

The moss stuff was only one part of the Old Empire's usual procedure for this, step one basically. There is soil out there, it's just a thin layer since nothing else has been done to speed it up/introduce the other steps. These other steps to build up more complex ecosystems etc were only completed within the more manageable area that they live in, which now includes some Earth-originating species on the DRSS side since they just Had to butt in and put their stuff in with the Old Empire's glorious plans. There's also some invertebrates out there in mossland, but like the moss they've been coded to play out a specific purpose (soil stuff) even when left unattended for long periods of time (to better help the Empire start the other steps without having to worry about new/competing species that they cant control. The "let it loose/outside of our control" step is not this early, but now that its what has happened and no other species have been introduced en-masse like intended, the moss/algae/invertibrate outside may start to speciate soon.)

I still need to figure out where the past borders are, but this is where they’re all at currently. Don’t mind the probably wonky projection map, I tried XD. The section of continent shown is roughly larger than Asia.

After millions of people fell to the planet a couple hundred years ago (and millions more died in the many years of warfare, sickness, and famine afterwards), the planet has a current total population of around 1.5 or 2 billion people (no one knows exactly how many are in the Empire anymore) (idk what the percentage division of each species is either lol)

I think I might finally like how it looks, but at the same time it’s still a work in progress? I think I'm going to keep it this way for a while. It does help with a lot of character/plot stuff, tho, since I can now look at places and figure out who has gone to/from where (for example, the main 6 all live in Berm right now. Maro and Rinshi are from the little yellow island in the Empire, and got to the SEZ by passing through the Wreck, and Zoe and Devin are from the Orbouh Island Nations. )

Bear with me because i'm not good at putting details on paper like this lmao

basic details! he is autistic just like meeeeeeee height: 4'10 age: 19 (however due to being mutated for only 13 of those years he has a tendency to act rather childish) His tails: they're long enough that they're pretty much down to his ankles! They're the same size despite being a genetic mutation. Visually they start off as a single tail and split roughly a third down the lenght, however the split goes a bit further up than it seems as the split in the bone itself is hidden under the skin and muscle. (if you're curious how the split might feel and how stretchy it is, use the webbing between your thumb and pointer finger as a reference!)

he's got three phobias;

Acarophobia (specifically ticks)

Equinophobia (horses)

Autophobia (fear of abandonment)

he's curious and eager to learn anything that excites him, although he tends to struggle focusing and actually understanding what he's being told, but he's trying his best

His weapon! his weapon is made of an unidentified mystic crystal, it's extremely durable and hard, it has never so much as chipped. it started off as just a stick about a foot long and grew with him. basically it's a shapeshifting weapon that can be mastered and controlled with enough practice, but to Entity it always seems to change on its own because of his subconscious needs.

preferences! He loves apples! Mainly due to his autism rather than the flavor or texture itself (although he does like eating them, especially in pastries), if he gives you an apple in any way shape or form, that means that he's saying “Hey, you're one of my favourite people!” and if you either wanted to share said apple with him or simply gave him an apple in return, he would see that as you saying “Hi, you're one my favourite people too!” and he would be ecstatic

his favourite color to wear is definitely red, although he rarely wears clothes at all, lmao

Entity cannot read, or write. No one taught him when he was a little kid, other than when his mama Alma taught him how to read certain recipies, his name, her name, their house address, etc. the important stuff, when it came to books or stories she just read them to him, and he loved it that way

LORE! So, here's some context as to what the hell is going on with my sona! (I'm trying to keep this as straightforward and easy to read as i can, lmao)

He was a regular turtle accidentally mutated at a the young age of 6, he was soon found by a few kids from a nearby town, they brought him home all excited and their parents were shocked, to say the least. He was eventually accepted and taken in by a kind old grandma named Alma. He became a bit of a town cryptid, simply named “The Entity,” this name stuck and is extremely important to him as it is part of his home.

no one knows when or where he found his weapon, it just showed up one day and no one batted an eye at it.

Alma had an adult biological son, he was in his mid to late 30s when Entity joined the family. Alma's son was.. troubled, to say the least. Aggressive, unpredictable, abusing substances left and right and frequently getting into arguements around the town. Alma and everyone knew how troubled he was. Alma always tried to help him, guide him, but frankly the man was a lost cause.

He was not happy when Entity, in his eyes, stole his mother from him. Often yelling at him, breaking his things, basically downright bullying him. He also often hit Entity as a form of discipline, which eventually instilled into Entity that he was only hit when he'd “deserved” it, and to this day he would accept that as a fair punishment.

This torment continued until Entity was 16, a whole 10 years. At this point Entity's crystal stick had become a full sized bo-staff, reaching from the floor to his chest.

The day that changed everything haunts him. It had started off like any other day, helping his mama mix up the waffle batter and cutting up the apples for breakfast, then heading out to play with his friends in the forest and around town. This continued on and off until it was lunch time, but as Entity was leaving the town square to go home, he heard a commotion.

Hurrying back to the fountain, he saw Alma's son yelling and berating and absolutely terrifying a young girl, he was clearly drunk and there was a bit of a crowd around, people tried to calm him down but he wouldn't let them close, only lashing out more and getting louder.

When Entity saw him about to strike the young girl, he panicked. Before he knew it, he was running as fast as he could and leaped, raising his crystal staff and bringing it down on his head. Except it was no longer a staff.

in his panic, he'd turned his staff into a morningstar and killed Alma's son. cracking his skull wide open and searing the image of his exposed brain into his mind.

He regretted this the moment he realized what he'd done. Everyone around started treating him like a monster, like he was inherently dangerous for protecting the young girl, he didn't understand. He didn't get a chance to say goodbye to his mama before he was chased out of the town and permanently exiled.

When Alma found out what had happened later that day, she truly didn't blame or hate Entity. She knew him, knew that he always tried to do the right thing, that he was kind and compassionate, and she knew that her son was honestly better off like this. She had tried everything to help him, but he refused to change. He was only a danger to others.

To this day, Entity believes wholeheartedly that he did something unforgivable, that he's a monster, and that his mama hates him. he feels immense guilt about it and can't stomach the thought of taking a life.

For 3 years since being exiled, he lived in the woods, surviving off the land, hunting- which he struggled coming to terms with as he hates hurting animals, but he needed the food. His camps are simple, a campfire near a large rock and a body of water, and a hole he'd dig that is just big enough for him to fit into in his shell. His green shell is a decent camouflage when surrounded by foliage and berry bushes.

And finally: His powers! He's a shadow walker, i suppose. He has access to the shadow realm and can travel from shadow to shadow with ease, he loves doing this, it's part of him.

i call the shadow realm “the void” lmao, simple and fitting.

The way I imagine it feels to be inside a shadow is kinda.. like you're underwater? Suspended in this vast endless pitch black space, always knowing where you entered and where you can peek up into the light, like invisible puddles that you can sense, and when you move you can feel a slight resistance, there's something around you, but at the same time you can tell that you're part of it, it isn't.. you, but it does feel like home, it's not particularly warm or cold, but it's pleasant, and sound echoes through the vast space, every puddle has sound and scents coming from it, and the further down you go in this.. ocean of darkness, the quieter it gets, and the harder it gets for others to hear you from the nearby shadows

So when he peeks his head out of a shadow, it's literally like he swam over to a puddle or hole in the surface of the darkness to peek out. He can't see them, but he knows where they are.

He tends to hide away in the void whenever he's upset, it brings him a lot of comfort and helps him feel safe, that he has a home- even though it isn't a traditional one, it's all he has.

There's also a risk to venturing into the void. The further down in the void he goes, the harder it is to feel where the puddles are, he can't tell up from down in there, so if he went far enough down, he could easily get lost and starve to death, since he isn't safe from harm in there. If, for example, he caught a bullet with a shadow to protect someone, he could get caught in the crossfire inside the void.

He has definitely explored downwards in there, but he doesn't like how.. intense the silence gets when he's so far away from the puddles, it scares him, makes him feel that he's alone again. But being around the puddles and hearing through them, conversations, nature, just sounds, life, even the vague scents from where they lead, it helps him feel less alone, less afraid

But he does go further down when he hides away, always within earshot, but it'd be easy to slip too far down by accident.

This is your protagonist, everyone. This is the man sap that we’re supposed to cheer for.

This might be due to the fact that on my first playthrough I ended up creating a Rook more emotionally guarded than any of the companions except Minrathous-route Lucanis and perhaps Neve, so I was primed to look for it, but I never got the sense that the companions don’t care for Rook (the thought never even occurred to me until I saw other people post about it) — to me it seems much more like it’s Rook who keeps the last bit of distance, Rook who pulls away when the companions try to extend their care or worry too directly, who keeps themselves slightly apart. (Rook who is so full of grief they cannot know as grief and thus process that there’s no room inside them to let anything else all the way in, perhaps.) They deflect and flinch back when someone gets too close or approaches them too overtly about their feelings — especially when it brushes up against the theme of grief. They can offer care to all the companions who are grieving, come along to any number of funerals as emotional support, but the moment someone turns that towards them they shut that shit down Immediately, like when Taash almost gives the whole game away with ‘Like you’d know? You act like you haven’t lost anyone!’ and Rook just blandly responds ‘We’re talking about you’ and doesn’t engage. But they can also admit that they struggle with accepting compliments, or knowing what to say, or having confidence in themselves without Varric’s help.

Despite all their determination and even in their most stoic no-nonsense incarnation, Rook is awkward, with the struggles that entails. Someone who is eager and happy to be the helper wherever they can, and helplessly unequipped to know how to be the helpee, as it were. It’s not that the companions don’t return Rook’s attachment to them, there’s MUCH more of a ‘okay so what are the ways you will allow me to be good to you??’ desperation of care vibe behind all their invitations to conversations and hangouts together, to my mind. They bring Rook to their favourite places and share the things they love with them, they ask to spend time together (many times just to have their company, not because they have a problem they need help with! Sometimes the problem arises anyway b/c video game quest narrative of course), they bring them out for some direly needed grass touching, they introduce them to their families. Everyone is clearly getting the sense that Rook does Not want to talk about Varric especially (this is in fact what Harding says in banter, if she’s still alive after the reveal :’( ), but they are absolutely SCRAMBLING to find ways to show that they’re there for them even so. AND from the companions’ perspective, with the situation as they have the means to understand it, accepting that Rook isn’t ready to have that conversation and backing off is also a kind thing to do. (tl;dr: To Me Rook is that weirdly socialized friend who is a great hang once they’re actually there but you have to directly invite them or they don’t quite know how to initiate the contact themselves lol) 

Just as a crushing sense of responsibility for their family is a trait that is built into Hawke no matter how you play them or how you make them respond to that, I feel like Rook — however helpful and earnest, warm, charming, jocular, stoic or straightforward they seem at a surface glance — is always someone who struggles deeply with connecting to themselves and other people. (Emotional Intimacy, the Final Frontier.) As, indeed, is the case with all of the Veilguard companions too! It’s clearly a deliberate theme. These are all lonely people struggling with their sense of identity and belonging in some sort of way. AND having, working on and eventually starting to overcome these difficulties also makes Rook a direct foil for Solas, who doesn’t learn that lesson unless you corner him at the end of the world to force feed him his medicine lmao. They don’t manage to break out of the regret prison under their own steam, it’s because even struggling and grieving they have managed to create mutual bonds with other people who show up for them in turn now — and with all the protective walls of denial around what happened to Varric crumbling and making them less of a stranger to themselves, Rook is finally able to let them. An outcome Solas seemingly didn’t even consider to guard against, because he’s become that deeply entrenched in his loneliness, the utter isolation of the self — he can no longer truly imagine an alternative. (It’s not that he can’t form these bonds, obviously, it’s that he resolutely refuses to value them. Whether it’s because he feels like he doesn’t deserve it or out of a need for control or the martyr complex where he must sacrifice everything he loves on the sacrificial pyre of fixing his mistakes, all of the above and more, the result is the same. Mind!Varric, who I think is mostly Solas speaking, even calls this out directly. So yet again a situation where he has some self awareness about it and it doesn’t help At All haha. Solas falls to the temptation of making people into tools again and again and again, no matter how many times it comes back to bite him in the ass and the eternal solitude it traps him in.) 

And that deep deep loneliness… There but for the grace of… well the theological state of thedas being what it is right now, let’s just go with the grace of Something, Presumably go you as well, Rook. The same capacity/tendency to pull away from connection clearly lives in them as well in some form (again, for whatever reason and with whatever motivations and instincts behind it for any individual Rook). Solas and Rook coming together to create a blood magic paper doll of the mind Varric in response to acute loss and loneliness is one of the most deep , deeply fucked up and invasive acts of intimacy I’ve ever contemplated. I don’t think that’s accidental, there’s something There’s Something Wrong With You (there’s something wrong with you that’s also wrong with me (derogatory)) here that resonates no matter how both parties would hate to hear it. (A fitting legacy for Varric and his wild ‘I made my best friend into a story because it’s the only way I know how to love with this desperation of sincerity’ brain to leave in the narrative, methinks. I feel he’d appreciate it on a craft level, if nothing else.)

If you read through all of Rook’s potential backstories, one of the common threads through all of them, along with a certain maverick ‘I’ll do whatever it takes’ streak, is a sense of profound alienation. They did something or have some sort of quality that made it hard for them to fit in with the group they’re from, causing a conflict that cuts them off from parts of their identity as it’s been up until now. All of which also adds to how important Varric is to them — he was clearly able to break/see through some of that and be closer with them, even in the relatively short time they spent together. No matter what else goes to shit, they can trust that a) Varric sees them, b) he genuinely likes them and believes in them not despite who they are, but for it, and c) he’s got their back, we’re in this together kid. And then he is gone, and it takes them the whole game to be able to bring themselves to accept that and know themselves again, be able to let new relationships in fully. The very understandable ‘the last time I let someone in, they got stabbed before my eyes and the world ended’ flinch away, even if they’re not consciously aware that’s what it is. Anyway I love Rook. So much space to play around in here as to WHY they might feel or react like this, even when the framework is more defined.

it's really important to me actually that Sova is Angry. like, i think about Omen's, "There is a fury within you, Sova. It is terrible. Beautiful," for a lot of different reasons (bc why are you, a man, calling another man['s fury] beautiful 🤔🤔🤔?), but especially there's the fact that like. okay omen side tangent MY POST MY RULES

like Omen is already fascinating for a lot of different reasons, and his radiance(?) definitely is one of them with the way he's able to sense and see things that other people can't? and not just having heightened senses but vro can literally feel the balance of the world like dude....... is it not heavy???????? but it also means he has really fascinating things in General to say about other agents (i think about his comments on astra's radiance and what he's able to note of clove's immortality), and commenting on Sova's Rage Specifically... very important to me!!!!!

not to mention that Omen isn't even the only reliable source, like!! do we want to talk about every voiceline of his where he refuses to relent? he refuses to ease up? he refuses to do anything but win absolutely? let's look at his voicemails and emails, with a special emphasis on the blackmailer arc and his determination to Remove The Threat (and need i even mentioned the name of his ultimate, like, come onnnnnnnn ykyk???)

because he Has Rage. he doesn't extend it to his allies (mostly. we all know the exception) because these are his comrades! his siblings-in-arms! to them, he offers only kindness and amicability; they are his friends.

...but it's still there—the rage, i mean—and it is strong, and it matters to me that beneath the ice, there is this brilliant bonfire, controlled in its flickering and yet powerful and motivational all the same. it is important to me that Sova Is Angry.

Requestober 2024 Sketches

Doing the full season this time around! The entire mixed bag o’ candy haha

Day 1 had my beautiful boys!! ♥ I’m so happy that Yanderapy took the lead this year ah! It’s too bad I’m so out of practice with them haha, unconfident lines, but the idea was solidly in place from the word go - this was really the only image that came to mind for them, their weird dynamic hehe <3 Made for each other! I am glad their expressions came together so well in the final version, though I didn’t get to show Micchan kneeling! That’s alright tho ♪ Cute enough here hehe

Day 2 got a lot of notes! Kabu’s clothing design is So complex lol, just toss him behind Larry who’s like second nature to draw, suits are so so simple in comparison haha ♪ Still only ended up hiding bits of him! He did end up with his shoe on the outside of Larry’s, boxing him in that little bit <3 And look! His smirk!! As well as the “hiragana” on his sleeves while I was still under the impression that it was text and not Flame Texture lol

And yes, as you can see, I ended up going with the alt doodle, they got more! I was quite tempted by Larry holding Kabu since he’s so tiny lol, but that would’ve required drawing his details! No! Hide him!! The pose is fun and silly and cute tho haha, very plush-coded ♪ And then also a little smech for funsies <3 Just to follow up their staring-at-each-other-in-a-gay-way they ended up with ♥ Rather a fan of Kabu’s hands pulling Larry in :)

Day 3′s was such a pose change!!! Mostly for Edgar, though he’s still kneeling here, inexplicably haha - the angle changed for the final version, and both of their head angles and just, ah, nothing more than a general outline of what I was going for. I’m pleased with both tho! I think the final is much more clear and readable, but there’s always a bit of fun with Edgar looking down/Scriabin looking up haha. I suppose it’s more appropriate than an angel would be looking down on a devil, isn’t it? Haha

Day 4 was another easy one at least, the pose immediately came to mind to show off Nny’s clothes on an even ganglier, thinner frame haha. Like I said, I really tried for more fullbodies this year, so I had to give the tiny version a proper swing on-page! Ran out of room for the larger one, but I really wanted to draw him holding his shoe with his hand haha. You can see the goopmonster on his shirt here too! :D I think his annoyed face is quite cute hehe <3

Day 5 was practically a freebie, and I took absolute full advantage hehehe ♪ If I get the prompt of “soft” of course I’m going to opt for plushies! I’m back in my Webkinz era, and Tala is big big big on Webkinz as well :) And her being a plushie has something of an impact there too lol, but it was really fun to look over all my little guys! I ended up having an extra handful of thoughts about all of them so they’ll be getting their own post(s) :D Good too, since I didn’t talk much about Embroidery’s closet cosplay haha

Day 6 was actually a bit of a question mark for me at first! :0 Not as though I don’t love when Edgar has to clean up Scriabin’s self-inflicted problems haha, I just wasn’t sure what it should be! Making it seasonal helped a bit there - lots of sticker burrs around here when we go walking haha. The bonus ended up being a digital-only, but it was a good motivator to finish these, and then the full poses came to mind - I’m not sure why I was more excited to work on full body poses, but I really was! Maybe the success of meeting my self-imposed challenge haha

I ended up scrapping the alt since it reminded me a little too much of one of the ‘22 reqs - trying to keep things fairly fresh! It was also a little too cartoony haha, where would Edgar suddenly pull such strength from! This doesn’t look like a dream! At least it wouldn’t have been a nightmare of Scriabin being hurt :’) Rescue!

Day 7 was another insta-idea! Really going back and forth on those lol, it sprouted into my head fully formed! This was actually one of a couple I wrote down as I was away from my notebook while brainstorming, so it came back as a mini script; one of more dialogue-heavy ones! Chicken or egg, I wonder, hmm. I always draw Smoker with her sleeves up even though she usually wears them down haha, I dunno. Had a heck of a time with Angie’s hair! I tend to make hair super super fluffy but hers is long and straight and presumably weighs itself down! Doesn’t floof! You’d think having heavy hair myself would incline me towards knowing anything about it but nope lol

Little bouncy concepts haha, and poor Mousey so jealous in the middle, surrounded with them having the most fun!

Day 8 was fairly simple with such a focused ask of them eating Specific Food - can do! Chibis just felt right for such a cute food haha. Would Edgar have a crepe pan, I wonder... I suppose a lot of it comes down to the batter, I haven’t made crepes in such a long time so I wouldn’t know anymore haha

Day 9 featured the slouchy throne! You can see I like the little leggies haha, I did make it a touch more proportional in the final version but who can resist the sillies! Had to draw it and Mettaton separately so I could easily see their silhouettes, I think it all came together in the end fairly well :) Had one heck of a time getting the bottom of his shoes to play nice, but I’m proud of how it turned out!!

Day 10′s, who can resist skelehugs ♥ No I! Not me!! The original had them a lot more upright, I’m glad I went with my note of leaning them back a bit more. Also had Papyrus’ legs on either side of Sans, protective <3 I do like both, but I think they look a bit more reasonably comfortable in the final version, figuring out contact points with one of Papyrus’ legs all the way to one side was too much haha. No boots on the couch! I think they look a bit younger in the final version too, maybe from their eyebrow expressions? Interesting how such small changes can make a big difference ♪

Day 11 was originally going to feature a bunch more Pokemon!! Several of my pink-and-purple faves all gathered around MewTwo <3 Flaafy and Musharna and Sableye my beloved 💜 And of course Whismur!! Can’t but Whismur all the time haha, but in the end I opted to go for the simpler(?) option of just the two ‘mons interacting

Whismur is so spooked by you, even lying down!! Even tho I drew it so I can see it right in front of me, I just can’t imagine MewTwo lying down to investigate haha. More posing changes! Lot of ‘em this year. Pls to quiet, cats have very sensitive hearing, you don’t need to shout

Day 12 started off with probably the Correct Amount of confusion lol, considering even @cutiebetutie​ didn’t expect this to be the matchup lolol, still deeply hilarious to me. But hey, what was I going to do, question a crackship?? Do I look like the kind of person who would say no to exploring some possibilities? Of course I had to give them a scope lol

Haha, “Alt” in quotes as I knew this would actually be the full version, the handholding is cute but where’s the dynamic! There is something there after all! I think so anyway, some tiny tiny sliver that they could start from, and what more foot in the door do you really need? If Nny’s on his charm that drew Devi in, I don’t see why someone a little more airheaded like Jake couldn’t be beguiled haha, if he lasts long enough for that ♪ It’s very tense! I wish him well, I wonder if he could protect himself... Just cut and run, Jake!! Makes for an interesting suspense, that’s for sure haha

Day 13‘s kigurumis!!! Yay!!!! Smol and I successfully wore ours for Halloween this year, we’re them fr fr haha, definitely one of my favourites from this season <3 <3 They’re so cute! Biggest change from here to there is probably where the legs start/end haha, kigurumi have funny little legs hehe. And also Papyrus’ gloves! Sans ended up without any, I can’t resist a hand plate here or there ♪ Also him closing his one good eye to pun about was an accident until it wasn’t haha, just another excuse to do a touch of rereading :3

Day 14‘s turned out so good for how cramped the sketch was!!! Gaster’s hardly there at all! Which is appropriate in its own way haha, filling in the rest of his details was pretty fun tho :) Papyrus looks a lot more desperate in this version which I do like, but him openly enjoying himself is very sweet, who could deny him that <3 Quite pleased with how his arm and hand posing came together in the end as well, fairly minor changes but I think it all flows together much nicer :D

Day 15′s word bubbles turned out way cleaner in the sketch than the final version?? Calls for more practice I suppose; it is asymmetrical, but it does look nice! Maybe needed more colour swatches haha, more and more rows! Edgar’s unimpressed look in the final version is quite good I think but there’s almost a kind of urgency with no eyes behind blank glasses hmm, they both have their merits! I applaud everyone who caught Scriabin holding the bi flag as his swatches! :D Good eye!

Day 16 began The Sleepies lol, I was a bit tired while doodling the first go and it uhm. Well. I mean. You can see lol. S’a bit goofy haha

The alt was much much better! I did end up leaving out the grass which I’m a Little disappointed about - feels too manicured, too sterile in the final version! But I really couldn’t figure a way of adding a bit of visual noise that wouldn’t look flat as well! Minecraft, eh, lol. I am quite pleased with how round Moomin turned out tho :D He looks like a marshmallow in the final version! Yay!

I actually doodled Day 17′s concept before 16 since it came to me so strongly - I do kind of like how much more upright Mob is here, him being as hunched over as he is in the final version adds to the moodiness of the piece I feel. He really is such a good boy! I don’t wish him dark and upsettings!

Day 18‘s didn’t get a paper sketch as I was verrryyyyy tired and had no energy to scan, so skipped the step that would make scanning necessary haha. For all that, I do rather like the digital sketch tho! I think Snufkin’s left leg is a bit better proportioned, and his expression is maybe a bit cheekier? Moomin’s perfect, no notes haha. I also ended up really liking their tail expressions, how Snuf’s is kind of straight and flat while Moomin’s is very roundy hehe <3

I know I said Day 20 doesn’t count but I mean, it’s on the same page! It got the “Day 20″ label! Sketch can go here why not haha. Happy belated Ace Week! I thought it was fun to put a bunch of pink lovehearts around the big central ace heart for me specifically hehe 💜💗

I mentioned in the tags that Day 26‘s original concept was too big to try to do all at once and ahhhh I wish I’d been able to swing it!! I wish I’d been able to do the whole thing!!!! I love scenes like this the most!! Little isometric rooms with little isometric characters all chatting and interacting and being cute and silly and tiny!! I love that! Alas, it had to stay a sketch, but here it is!! Can you recognize everyone here? The main three got the center, but who could the rest be :3c And what of their costumes! Hehe ♪

Still fighting back the sleepies for what ended up being the final version so the dialogue was left much more vague than the caption haha, the aliens don’t even have feet here! I suppose they are meant to be in fish costumes lol, it tracks that only the fully-human Captain’s legs would end there, but definitely not intentionally done so lol. I like ZEX’s expression here so muuuuch ahh I wish I’d been able to capture it a bit better in the digital version! Always something for next time haha

I actually ended up drawing Day 30′s sketch very very last, so this was the last doodle of the season! Me, projecting my tiredness onto the Vargases? Nooo <3 Another one that ended up very very different from the final version, I just needed Something down to paper and out of my head to work with really - I knew even while drawing this that I was going to end up with something very different haha. Sometimes hand just does whatever it wants pft. The dialogue was the star of the show here! And you can see what Scriabin was up to, obscured by the couch haha

Day 31, penultimate sketches for the final day! I really do love Scriabin hiding behind Edgar - wants to be included but not That close, very much with Edgar in the way of anything bad happening to him haha. More pose changes! I like both versions, Todd holding Shmee for comfort or him spilling out of his lap as he focuses all his attention on Joel <3 Both cute in different ways!

Cats are still not one of my strong-suits, but I have been drawing them a bit more recently! Admittedly of the cartoon variety, but even that has had some effect I think! Like their little triangle noses, and the way their ears scoop inwards, and whiskers - little things! I like it! I had fun with these little concept poses, Joel kind of curiously huddling on Edgar’s chest, looking at the world from a safe vantage spot haha. Hold him gently! He deserves it!

All the sketches from this year! I ended up having a lot of fun this season even if it was a little lighter than previous years haha, thank you again to everyone who joined!! ♥

I'm noticing an uptick in comments complaining that most of the current WIR fandom content is Turbo instead of the other characters and, like... you guys know you can search other characters by their specific tags, right??? Or exclude Turbo from search results by temporarily blacklisting him in your filtered tags?

Idk, it's just weird to me to be discouraging towards people making fandom content just because it's not the specific content you want to see, like, it's ok to want to see other content, but complaining about how other people aren't catering to your tastes enough instead of just making the content you want to see yourself is kinda bad vibes, y'know?? (And that's not to say that I think those comments are intended out of malice of course, I really don't think they are, I just wanted to point out that it can come off as a little entitled, as well as discouraging towards people who just want to draw Turbo, which is something that should be fine if that's what they want to do. Fandom should be fun for everybody, and there's lots of tools available to curate your experience with it!)
