Tickletober Day 5~ “I’m not ticklish”
~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~ FANDOM: Voltron
LEE: Keith
LER: Lance ~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~•~ 💙WARNING~ THIS IS A SFW TICKLE FIC, NSFW DNI!!💙
“LAHAHAHANCE STAHAHAP IHIHIT!!!!” Pidge squealed, batting at her attackers hands. Lance was in a very playful mood today and he was on a mission to make all of his friends smile. They’d been up in space for a good few months at this point and we’re all much closer with one another than when they started. The biggest relationship development onboard the ship was between him and Keith, their resident emo as Lance like to call him. It was still new to them both but there was something between them that they couldn’t ignore but neither had mentioned it just yet. Of course days like these definitely pushed them a bit further in their closeness.. as you’ll see.
Soon enough Pidge got a good kick to Lance’s stomach and escaped the clutches of the teams newly established tickle monster. He had already gotten Hunk this morning and Coran very briefly that afternoon but he decided he wasn’t even going to try Allura because she might eject him off the ship. Shiro was busy working on something so he’d leave him be as well.
Only person left was Keith and lucky for Lance he had just entered the room. Lance wondered if he had witnessed his attack on poor Pidge. “Damn she’s got some kick in her for someone so short huh?” Keith commented lightly chuckling to himself. “Or maybe you’re just extremely weak?” He was smirking as he spoke and Lance took this as his opportunity to see if perhaps his cru- friend was ticklish aswell. “You better reign in the attitude Mullet or you’ll be next~” A sly smile made its way to his face as he teased Keith. “Well sucks for you because I’m not ticklish.” He said it so confidently that Lance almost believed him, but he knew Keith too well now to miss the signs of slight panic in his eyes. “Hmm I think you’re lying Keith.” He leaned forward from his chair towards Keith who had sat in front of him on the ground for some reason??
“I promise you I’m definitely not!!” He was getting defensive and Lance could tell. He was going to have some fun with this..
“Alright, well if you’re ‘not ticklish’ then I guess you won’t mind if I do this?” He had moved from the chair to reach his new target. He experimented by prodding Keiths sides, but he kept a straight face. Lance walked his fingers up his ribs and began pinching lightly and Keith looked as if he was close to breaking but the boy was stubborn. It was going to take a little more than this to get him laughing Lance thought.
He didn’t have to search too far because Keith made the dumb decision of practically marking out his worst spot. His arms had automatically hugged around his stomach protecting it from Lance.
“Okay Keith last chance to admit that you’re actually ticklish or else I’m gonna have to do this the hard way..” Lance was really enjoying this, whilst he spoke he grabbed both of his FRIENDS hands and pinned them either side of his head. “Lance really, this is dumb, I mean c’mon i haven’t laughed yet so you’re obviously wasting your time here.” Keith seemed.. nervous as he spoke. ”Well there goes your last chance pretty boy, remember you asked for this.” Lance internally cringed at the nickname but soon forgot about it as he was too preoccupied trying to make Keith laugh. He started by scribbling his fingers over the taught muscles of Keith’s midsection and he could now see him visibly struggling to hold in his laughter. It wasn’t until Lance reached his lower stomach that Keith finally cracked. “Aha I found it!!” Lance cried out with excitement. “LAHAHANCE NOHOHO THIHIHIS ISNT FAHAHAIR!!!” Keith began to twist and buck his torso in attempt to get away from Lance’s very tickly fingers. That was a big mistake because not only was he no further away from his attacker but his stupid shirt had ridden up exposing him even more.
Lance didn’t waste a second and absolutely took advantage of the vulnerable area. He spidered his fingers all along Keith’s waistline relishing in his loud cackles. It was nice to see the usually brooding teen so carefree for once and god his laugh was just amazing. Lance could listen to it forever, but he didn’t put Keith through more than maybe seven minutes of torture. “Not ticklish you said?? Well I think I proved that wrong don’t you Keith?” Lance smiled down at him noticing how content he looked. Lance would give anything to stay in this moment all day. A tiny blush spread across Keith’s cheeks as he smiled shyly up at Lance. His arms were still pinned but neither of them seemed to notice. Then Keith did something he never thought he would..
He leaned up and slowly placed his lips against Lance’s. He quickly pulled away for fear of rejection but Lance immediately let go of his arms and pulled him back into their first kiss. It didn’t last long but to them it was the most perfect kiss either had ever had. Lance smirked his signature smile and spoke up. “Who knew you lying about being ticklish would’ve made this happen..”
“Oh shut up you dork.” Keith chuckled and wrapped his arms around Lance. That’s how Hunk walked in on the two cuddled up on the ground asleep an hour later. He couldn’t have been happier for them.. and himself because Pidge owes him ten bucks.

coming back to this because it got some notes and I have still been thinking about it. id like to theorize some alternate formations to what canon did and also reply to people.
Killing Shiro
Tumblr media
(tags from @scattered-winter)
slightly controversial opinion, I agree with this 100% (sorry shiro lovers that follow me, this opinion comes from a place of love). I think many people have valid criticisms about killing the only (intended) gay and disabled character and I agree with that should be considered, but the way they backtracked made his character a lot less impactful. I think the way to "make up for it" (I don't know how to better word it) would be to explore disability through the other paladins.
as for the burying your gays trope, I think having shiro getting married at the end was pretty nothingburger tbh and just further highlights the weakness of his writing. why the hell would they bring him back only to kill his boyfriend that actually had backstory??? I feel like very little was actually gained by keeping him alive and confirming his gayness.
also if you ever see me advocating for kl to become canon you can assume im being held at gunpoint bc regardless of whether I like the ship I think they're at the most interesting un-established. even though I prefer k/a, I don't think I'd want them canon either. a lance bi arc wouldn't hurt and I think addressing his obsession with competing with keith would make sense but also making him casually bisexual would be fine by me. no relationship needed.
back to shiro, I find kuron very interesting and the idea that shiro's consciousness was stored in the black lion when he died but like. the way it played out was an absolute mess. at the end of the day if I had to choose between a character living to the end or being well written, I'd choose well written. which shouldn't be a surprise considering I have other faves that are very very dead.
What to do with Keith and Allura
In my opinion there's only 2 options besides Shiro for the black lion: Allura and Keith. apologies to black paladin Lance truthers, while I see that could make a sick character arc, Allura and Keith have much higher priority for the position.
Even though I don't like Keith's role as the black paladin in canon, and I love him in the red lion, I think it could have been executed in a more satisfactory way and hope is not completely lost.
In theory the least disruptive way to replace Shiro would be to make Allura pilot the black lion and I'm a big fan of this option. I feel like she was set up in a weird role pre-swap where she was a leader but also stuck on the sidelines?? so she'd slot pretty well into the proper leader position and it would be a nice way to carry out her father's legacy and also take back control from Zarkon as the original paladin.
That being said, I do also really like her as the red paladin because it was Alfor's lion and she's just as impulsive and reckless as Keith. Keith being another Galra pilot for the black lion is also somewhat interesting but not quite as compelling imo. but I could be satisfied with either of them in Red or Black.
Full time Blade Keith??
I think the blades were so interesting as a concept but just. no. throws away so much development and completely disconnects him from the team.
I think his relationship with Shiro was/is also very important to the Voltron dynamic regardless if Allura is a paladin. as the oldest there's some disconnect between Shiro and the others and I think Keith's history with him bridges the gap and also fulfills a necessary role as someone scared for Shiro. as the leader and garrison's ex-golden boy it's easy to assume he knows what he's doing and he's always going to be okay but like, he's not.
I'd also be very much down for Allura and Shiro developing a closer relationship without her viewing him as a mentor figure like the other paladins, but I think Keith having a close history with him provides necessary substance to his connection with the team. Keith in general just has too much set up as an integral character to just ship him off elsewhere without maintaining a close relationship to voltron.
The Blue Lion
Listen. Lance was made for Blue. I do appreciate his development as the strategy guy and becoming a co-leader, but his bond with Red was just not all there. And I don't have any particular feelings about Allura and Blue tbh.
Co Pilots
Shiro & Allura
Tumblr media
(tags from @alluraaaa)
I love this concept and I've actually seen it executed very well. Voltron: Duality by squirenonny. The only thing I worry about tho is all the aforementioned problems that came from backtracking on Shiro's death.
its not my first choice in writing AUs, BUT it's definitely something really interesting to explore and I like seeing other people's takes on it. I think it'd require it's own long post to dive deeper into so I'm keeping it short here.
anyway, that's my take. I still don't know what option I'd consider "best" cause I think they all have potential if voltron actually gaf about character development lol.
The lion swap drives me bonkers cause on one hand I think the og relationships they had with their lions were well written and they never felt as connected after the swap but also like. Paladin Allura…
I feel like I have no choice but to retire Shiro cause as much as I love him as a character I do think the fact he was meant to make way for the younger Paladins to take over is very apparent and it makes sense within the story. I don’t like that they planned on killing him off and I wouldn’t want to do that myself but if I had to make anyone no longer a paladin it would probably be him just because it makes sense narratively.

One from way back when i first thought of doing a model Au, and way, way before I did Dripping in Gold for Julance - which I think I actually like better anyway. So that means that this one is pretty well abandoned. Not much to say about this one except that Allura is evil and enjoys watching her friends suffer >;)
~*~*~*~
“Allura, why?” Keith asked flatly with just a tinge of incredulousness.
“Because, that’s why,” she answered, getting up and following her stylist. She perched in the chair and took a selfie, her fingers flying across the keyboard as she added a caption before posting it to Instagram.
Keith got the notification, checking it before going back to the private message she’d sent him. The new post was another perfect selfie, her aqua eyes sparkling and dark skin glowing. “Getting my hair straightened!!! Sooo excited!!!” read the caption. Allura had been teasing a new hairstyle, temporary, of course, for an upcoming shoot all week. Only Keith and their friend Shiro knew what she was planning. And since Shiro was busy on a shoot himself, Keith had been dragged along to Allura’s styling appointment.
He slid lower in the leather sofa, returning to the private message. All she had sent was the name of another Instagram user and fellow model. He had nothing better to do, and so decided that he would at least check out what LB_Lance was like.
Allura wasn’t entirely wrong. Keith hadn’t dated in months. Ok, closer to a year. But he was busy! His modeling career and college took precedence over all else. His double major in fashion design and business took up a lot of his time, modeling taking up the rest. His dream end goal of establishing his own fashion house wasn’t going to fund itself. Maybe he had been neglecting his social life. But only a little.
Either way, she had decided that she'd had enough of Keith’s asocial antics. Unless he was working or in class, he was locked in his apartment, studying or working on projects for his double major. Allura used her contacts at Castle Modeling Agency, getting the name of Lance McClain's Instagram. She had seen him there before, run across him at agency parties, and knew he and Keith would hit it off if they were ever in the same room.
Soft aqua body glitter and naturally golden skin were the first things he saw when he went to LB_Lance’s most recent post. The glitter dusted his cheekbones, shoulders, and collarbone. It was artistic and intentional, highlighting his natural beauty rather than covering it. The tightlined, hair’s breadth gold eyeliner made his vibrant blue eyes inhumanly intense. One corner of his perfect lips was curled upwards ever so slightly. His dark hair was slightly damp, giving it a natural wave. He was dressed only in turquoise and gold board shorts, elbows leaning on a weather-worn, thick wooden rail.
Keith gasped softly. Holy fuck he was beautiful. He didn’t even have a chance to scroll any farther before getting a notification of another private message.
LB_Lance: Hey, StarPrincess said I should check you out. So I did. Damn, you’re hot. I think I’d like to see for myself. You free Sunday?
Keith looked up, glaring in Allura’s direction. “Allura, I hate you.”
“Why? What did I do?” she asked, feigning innocence.
“You know what you did,” he shot back, “And he’s pm’ed me.”
She giggled. “Did you look yet?”
“Yes. I did. I hate you.” He knew she was referring to Lance’s page, not the message, and what she meant by looking.
“Pretty, isn’t he?”
“Still hate you.”
Allura snorted, going back to her phone, while her stylist Angel continued with her hair, and Keith went back to his.
Kei_Ko: I have a sunset shoot Sunday, but I have all morning off. What’d you have in mind?
Kei_Ko: And even if my being hot were true, you’re a fucking god
LB_Lance: . . . I . . . um . . . ok. I, um, I was thinking of – hey, you know Jack’s?
Kei_Ko: The diner?
LB_Lance: Yeah! Meet up for a late breakfast? Like 10?
Kei_Ko: Sure.
LB_Lance: I’ll see you then. Later, sexy. ;)
“OhmygodIfuckinghateyouAllura,” Keith hissed all at once as he threw his phone to the other end of the sofa.
She cackled at the rushed sentiment. “Oh. My god. What happened?”
“I have a fucking date Sunday morning thanks to you.” He folded his arms, glaring at her.
“Huh. That’s usually when your dates end. This is a step up for you,” Allura said, taking a not-so-subtle dig at Keith’s tendency for short-lived relationships.
“Wow. Really? You’re going there? I may just have to make you walk to the shoot in this heat,” he retorted, watching her face contort.
“You wouldn’t. Keith, please. Tell me you’re joking.”
Keith tried. He really did. But he couldn’t keep a straight face and collapsed to the sofa in a fit of giggles. Allura realized he wasn’t serious and felt her own giggles bubbling up her throat. It took them both a few minutes before they’d calmed down enough to speak.
“You’re horrible,” Allura finally managed, “Remind me why I’m still friends with you?”
“Because you love me,” Keith replied from his sprawled position on the sofa.
“Debatable.”
Keith rolled over to retrieve his phone from where he’d thrown it, flipping Allura off in the process. She snorted and went back to her phone while Angel worked. Keith also returned to his phone and LB_Lance’s Instagram.
“So, what’s this guy’s real name, anyway?” he asked.
“Lance,” Allura answered without looking up, “Lance McClain. I have told him yours as well.”
“So, what’s the ‘LB’ for?”
“Dunno. Never asked. But then, I'm not the one who has a date with him, maybe you should be the one to ask that,” she teased.
“Oh, for fuck’s sake, Allura.” Keith rolled his eyes at her and went back to scrolling through Lance’s Instagram.
<~>~<~>
Pidge launched herself onto Lance’s sprawled form. She felt it was only fair since he was taking up the entire sofa. He’d been on his phone all morning and completely ignoring her, and she finally got tired of it. Lance’s reflexes were good, and he grabbed Pidge by the waist and tossed her off of him and onto the floor, but not before she grabbed his phone. She landed on the floor with a grunt and a thud, but ignored it in favor of what had held Lance’s attention for so long.
“Damn, Lance, he’s hot,” she said, scrolling back up through the Instagram account of Kei_Ko, “You gonna be stalking him now?”
“Fuck off, Pidge,” Lance retorted, snatching his phone back, “And no, I'm not stalking him. I got a message that I should check him out from someone at Castle. Well, not just anyone. It was Allura. And for your information, I already pm’ed him. We’re meeting up for breakfast on Sunday.”
Pidge rolled to a sitting position and turned around. “You ass. Tell me everything.”
He sighed, rolling onto his side to face her. “I ran into Allura at Castle a couple days ago, and she suggested that I might want to look up one of her friends – who also happens to be a model – and that she’d message me on Insta. So, I did, and he’s beautiful, and I asked him out. There. That’s everything, you gremlin."

hello! idk if you’re still active on this blog but i saw a post saying you’d accept requests and headcanons?? you’re honestly one of my favorite blogs and your writing is adorable 💞 anyway, my request because voltron still owns my entire ass. i was thinking maybe pre established klance and errr, lance having a huge thing for tickling and not knowing how to tell keith he likes it, bc he’s worried that keith would be weirded out by it if he finds out but when does keith finds out, he’s not? 🥺
YOOO SAME BOAT W VOLTRON STILL OWNING MY ASS
no i have not watched s8 and no i will not but i still love the characters SO much
Anyway absolutely I can do this yes. I haven’t written tickling in literally years (whoops) but I can only hope it’s improved since then. Also good lord ticklish!Lance still owns my whole heart so omg thank you for this amazing prompt, i hope you weren’t hoping for a full one-shot and are okay with a less-formal one this turned out longer than expected lmao
Also aaaaaaaaaaa your words are so kind, ily anon <3 I hope to remember this blog more often bc I’m so bored bc of quarantine and what better way to pass the time than to write?
Note: There’s like. no actual tickling in this bc I wrote it pretty much entirely around the confession itself but there’s still some teasy Keith which is always good. Also I wrote this from like 3:30-5am whoops
Also this isn't letting me put in a working Read More and I am sorry for the resulting long post
Rating: T, it gets suggestive in words but not actions and there’s nothing explicit
---
Lance bit his lip. It was Space Family Movie Night, and while it was a good movie that Hunk picked out, the scene that was currently playing was...
Well. The two main characters were having a (brief, but still) tickle fight on the protagonist’s bed. Lance had been hardly paying attention up to this point - it just wasn’t his kind of movie - but this... this scene had his eyes glued to the screen
He tried not to pay attention to Keith’s arm around his shoulders. He tried not to think about the fingers that absentmindedly twitched every so often. It was probably just a byproduct of his arm getting tired and wanting to move, but during this scene Lance was hyper-aware of those fingers.
None of the others seemed to pay much attention to the scene. To be fair, it wasn’t a major scene. It was objectively cute - the protagonist had a mutual crush on the other character, and they were finally getting close. But Lance couldn’t help but be minorly petrified by it. He tried to be nonchalant, but felt restless throughout it. He tried to hold still, but found himself drinking from his glass of water less calmly than he’d have liked to afterwards.
All too soon, his cup was empty. He extracted himself from Keith’s arm and walked to the kitchen both to refill his water and take a breath.
He looked out the window of the castleship at the vast expanse of stars as he turned on the sink’s faucet. After testing the temperature with his hand, he brought the glass to it, nearly overfilling it. He raised it to his lips and let the crystal-clear water cool him off from the inside-out.
After a few sips, he set it back down on the counter, looking out into the cosmos once more.
“Coming back soon?”
Lance jumped as he heard his boyfriend’s voice suddenly in the room with him.
“You startled me,” he chuckled nervously, picking his glass back up. “I’ll be back in in just a minute.”
Keith smiled at him, then walked over to him, gently embracing him against the counter and following his gaze outside.
“I’m glad we did this,” Keith said softly into his shoulder. It was still a relatively new relationship between them. They had been dancing around their feelings for long enough, and about a week before they decided to cut their losses and give in.
“Me too,” Lance said, nuzzling into his arms, letting his earlier flustering dissipate from his mind.
“So, care to tell me why you left so suddenly?”
Lance could hear a gentle smile in Keith’s voice. “Hm?” he asked, feigning ignorance.
“You got up so quickly, are you alright?”
Lance thought quickly to cover himself. “Y-yeah, I just got thirsty all of a sudden.” He took another sip of water to cement his point.
“Well,” Keith pulled himself away and began turning to walk back to the lounge, “don’t keep me waiting too long, okay?”
“I’ll be back in soon,” Lance smiled warmly back at him. Crisis averted, for now at least.
---
It was movie night again, a week later. This time, Pidge had control of what they were watching. It was a spy movie of sorts, one Pidge said she used to watch all the time on Earth.
Lance was laying with his head in Keith’s lap, feet hanging over the arm of the loveseat they were in. He was more invested in this movie than the one Hunk showed the previous week.
When the protagonist was kidnapped by the enemy agents and woke up tied to a chair, a tiny warning bell went off in Lance’s head. Be on guard, it said.
When the head enemy agent approached the protagonist saying she had ways to make her talk, the warning bell got significantly louder. Logically, Lance figured it wasn’t going to be what he simultaneously hoped and feared it would be.
When the enemy spy walked around the back of the protagonist and extended her hands to the tied woman’s sides, Lance tensed up. Yep, here it comes.
Sure, the scene only lasted a few seconds before the enemy paused, threatened more, and the protagonist gave in, but it felt like an eternity to Lance. He quickly downed the juice in his glass, leapt up and went to the kitchen once again.
“Come on, it’s not a big deal,” he said to his reflection in the window’s glass. He gripped the edge of the countertop. He felt that his face was probably glowing pink, and tried to shake his head to clear his mind.
“You should be able to handle 10 seconds just seeing it.” Lance set his head on the cool stone under his hands and groaned.
“So you’re obviously not okay,” a voice behind him spoke.
He jumped up and whipped around to, sure enough, see Keith standing across the kitchen. Lance noted he seemed to be fighting a smile.
“I’m fine,” Lance said shakily, filling his glass with water once more.
Keith’s trace of a smile melted away into a concerned frown as he closed the distance between them.
“Look,” he began. “Two weeks in a row you jumped up and ran out of the room. Is it me? Is it the movie choices? Do you now want to be touching me when we watch them?” The genuine concern in Keith’s voice hurt Lance to hear.
“N-no, it’s not that,” Lance rushed to amend. “It’s just... uh...” and he quickly faltered. How was he going to explain this? It hadn’t ever come up between them, and it wasn’t exactly easy for Lance to talk about.
Keith’s face changed before Lance could continue, and for the life of him Lance couldn’t name the expression he now held.
“Is it something with tickling? You don’t like it, do you?”
Static was now the only thing in Lance’s mind. He flinched and felt his face grow warm as he fought back a smile with an attempt at a frown.
“Ah-n-no it’s not that I just - uh--”
“I can make sure there isn’t any content of it in movies from here on out,” Keith stepped closer and took Lance’s hand. “I want you to be comfortable, and if this helps it helps, right?”
Lance still couldn’t figure out the expression on his face. In the meantime, he was panicking. Oh god, Keith was saying things Lance didn’t want to hear. This was embarrassing, but for the wrong reasons. Keith was wildly incorrect, but Lance couldn’t bring him to tell him so.
The blue paladin only couldn’t handle those scenes because of everyone around him. If Lance let himself react naturally to it, surely they’d notice the squirming and stifled giggles coming from him.
He just couldn’t bring himself to tell Keith he not only enjoyed but loved being tickled. It just felt too weird to admit, plus he couldn’t exactly say The Word out loud which made things significantly more difficult.
“N-no, it’s not...” he bit his lip and avoided Keith’s gaze. He was so afraid his boyfriend would think him weird for it, especially the extent to which he loved it.
“Then what is it? You know you can tell me anything, right?” Keith squeezed his hand.
Lance couldn’t meet his gaze. He tried his best to squeeze out the words anyway.
“It’s not... that I don’t like it...” and he couldn’t speak any further. He could only hope that Keith could extrapolate far enough.
Lance felt a squeeze on his hand again as Keith laughed softly. “That’s it, Lance?”
“I’m sorry... I know it’s weird--”
“Look at me,” Keith interrupted, gently cupping Lance’s chin and turning his face to meet his own. The blue paladin still struggled to make eye contact. “There’s nothing weird about it.”
Lance stayed quiet, looking down at the floor.
Keith fondly rolled his eyes before pressing a kiss to Lance’s forehead. “If anything, it’s adorable. You like laughing and smiling so much, it’s only a natural progression.”
Lance snickered at his boyfriend’s logic.
“Oh? Was that a laugh?” Keith quickly responded, enjoying watching Lance blush deeply. “I wasn’t even doing anything!” he smiled, moving to pin him between himself and the counter. With a shift to a bit of a darker expression and an evil grin on his face, Lance knew things were going to be alright.
“But I can,” and Lance’s stomach was full of butterflies.
A nervous giggle spilled from his lips. “Not here,” he whispered back. “The others might hear.”
Keith leaned in close to his ear. “Then tell me, Lance, how much do you like it?”
A shiver went up and down Lance’s spine. The blue paladin grabbed his boyfriend’s wrists in  surge of energy and started leading him towards his bedroom, so they were out of earshot.
Their impromptu “sparring sessions” were about to get a lot more interesting.

Day 6: I’m Drunk on You
For @sheithmonth prev / on ao3 / next July 6th - Business
Keith shifted in his lap and Shiro tried not to groan out loud. Instead he closed his eyes and prayed to whatever god that might listen that no one would notice his… predicament. Especially not Keith.
The employees of Altea Corporation were currently celebrating their CEO’s engagement to her fiance. President Allura and her lover Lance had been dating for the better part of 2 years, so no one was surprised when the announcement came that morning in the office. Hunk had then suggested that everyone hit up a bar after work that day to celebrate the couple.
However, the short notice meant cramming dozens of employees into an unsuspecting bar that had Allura apologizing profusely and offering extra cash to the owner. The bar they had ended up at was called Little Root Tavern, and was actually owned by Shiro’s friend Matt Holt, who was more than happy to host the party. But as the name suggests, Little Root was not a very large establishment, forcing everyone to pack in like sardines.
The only spot that would fit them was one long table in the center of the room where they could sit on the floor. Shiro slipped his way to a spot where he could sit cross legged and lean against the wall, and Keith had taken his usual space beside him. As many people as possible crammed around that table and as the alcohol was served, Shiro found himself getting squished from both sides. What Shiro hadn’t expected was a very tipsy Keith to climb into his lap halfway through the night, grumbling about how crowded it was. Shiro knew his face had gone red and he avoided making eye contact with Lance who was smirking at them.
Now Shiro was trying to keep calm as his best friend (and longtime crush) sat firmly in his lap, every so often shifting in an attempt to get comfortable. Moving in ways that almost had Shiro choking on his alcohol.
“Anything else I can get for you all?” Matt asked the party, making eye contact with Shiro and raising an eyebrow at Shiro’s situation.
People called out more orders, and Shiro reached around Keith to pass his empty glass to Matt.
Don’t ask, Shiro mouthed to him, and Matt smirked.
“How about another round of shots?” Matt announced to the table, “This round on the house for the happy couple!”
The party cheered, raising their glasses to Allura and Lance, but Shiro glared at Matt, who had been pointedly looking at him and Keith when he’d said it. Shiro suddenly regretted ever telling Matt about his feelings for Keith.
“Shiro? I’m sorry, I’m probably heavy aren’t I?” Keith asked, twisting to catch Shiro’s eye.
“N-No you’re fine!”
“Okay,” Keith smiled and turned back to his drink, while Shiro internally cursed himself.
That was probably the only chance he’d get to get Keith off of him. Keith really wasn’t heavy but Shiro’s own problem wasn’t getting any better. He kept finding himself watching Keith, the way he’d laugh at something Allura or Pidge had said. The way his cheeks flushed from the alcohol and how sometimes he’d lean back against Shiro’s chest before realizing what he’d done and leaned forward again. Shiro hated that distance and he desperately wanted to wrap his arms around Keith’s waist and pull him back again.
But that would be crossing a line that Shiro wouldn’t risk crossing.
Not when the past two years have been some of the best of his life. When he’d first met Keith at Altea Corp they’d hit it off immediately. Keith had gone from the new employee Shiro mentored to best friend in a ridiculously short amount of time. Being with Keith was easy and fun and exhilarating. After long days at the office it was common for Shiro to find himself on the back of Keith’s motorcycle, riding up through the forest to find someplace to watch the stars. Or to a shitty diner where they’d talk over fries and shakes. Or even to Shiro’s apartment where they’d watch and laugh at the new season of Boltron: Legendary Attacker and it’s bad writing.
No matter what they did Shiro felt happy. And he wouldn’t give it up for the world. Even if every time they hung out it felt like a date and Shiro wanted nothing more then to swoop down and kiss Keith absolutely senseless. How Keith would probably be just as forward and aggressive with his kisses as he was on the training mat when they sparred at the gym. God, did Keith look good when he was on the mat…
And this is not what he should be thinking about when Keith is in his lap.
“Well, I think it’s about time we head out,” Allura announced, which was immediately met by complaints from the party, “Oh please. Unlike some of you who get weekends off with the company, the CEO’s job is never done.”
“You heard the lady,” Lance said, grabbing Allura’s coat from the floor and helping her pull it on, “You all can stay and continue to toast to our well-being. We’ll let you know when the wedding will be.”
And with that (and a few finger guns from Lance), Allura and her fiance left the party.
“I bet that’s nice,” Keith mumbled, suddenly leaning back and resting his head on Shiro’s shoulder with his face turned slightly towards Shiro’s own.
Shiro could smell the alcohol on his breath, “What?”
“You know,” Keith paused and Shiro’s heart skipped a beat when Keith looked down at Shiro’s lip’s, “Being in a relationship.”
Keith looked back up at Shiro’s eyes and for a split second Shiro was certain Keith was going to kiss him. But Keith sat back up and finally stood from Shiro’s lap.
“I’ll be right back,” Keith said and Shiro watched him walk towards the bathrooms.
Shiro let out a breath, and scooted forward so that his lap was directly under the table. He tried to think about anything besides Keith or otherwise he wouldn’t be able to walk out of this bar without people noticing he was half hard.
“Fuck,” he whispered.
“What’s that Shiro?” Pidge’s voice came from across the table, “Don’t tell me having your crush in your lap all night has been a problem for you?”
“Pidge,” he hissed out, eyes darting about to the remaining employees around the table.
“Oh come on Shiro,” Pidge continued, ignoring his complaint, “Everyone knows how you feel. Honestly, we’re all just surprised it hasn’t happened yet.”
“I should have never told Matt,” Shiro lamented, to which Pidge laughed.
“Oh please, Matt didn’t need to tell me. You’re obvious.”
Hunk nodded beside Pidge, “Yeah I mean even Lance has you figured out, and it took him months to figure out Shay and I were dating. We weren’t even trying to hide it! It took me kissing Shay right in front of him!”
Shiro sighed again as the others continued their discussion about Shiro’s love life. Eventually he took a peek at his watch and looked over towards the bathroom again. Keith was taking a while.
“Plus, Keith is totally into yo-” Pidge started.
“I’ll be right back,” Shiro interrupted, pushing himself up off the ground.
He felt a bit dizzy from the quick change of elevation but at least he wasn’t drunk. He made his way over to the bathroom door and pushed his way inside. His eyes immediately locked on to Keith, who stood at the bathroom mirror, hands braced on the sink and head down.
“Keith? Are you okay?”
Keith jumped, apparently not having heard him enter and turned to face him, “Yeah I’m fine, just a little queasy. I had a little too much.”
“Do you want me to call you a cab?”
Keith paused, seeming to take a moment to just look at him. Shiro tried not to let it affect him, but Keith looked like he was searching for something. There was a heat in Keith’s eyes that Shiro wasn’t used to. Eventually Keith looked away, turning back to the mirror.
“Yeah,” he finally said, “I should probably go home.”
Keith pushed away from the mirror and Shiro followed him out of the bathroom. They said their goodbyes to their friends and made their way outside. They stood on the street corner in front of the bar. It was quieter outside, the only noises were the muffled sounds of merriment behind the bar’s door and the cars passing them by.
“Sorry about in there,” Keith suddenly said.
“What about?”
“I-I shouldn’t have, you know, gotten into your space like that. I know I was in the way.”
“No Keith, it was fine. Honest,” Shiro replied easily, because it was the truth. It was fine, Shiro was the one who made it weird.
“Oh, that’s good,” Keith seemed to visibly relax beside him, “So, just curious, was I imagining you having a hard on in there?”
Shiro felt his stomach drop and he had the sudden desire to get swallowed up by the ground beneath his feet. He continued to stare ahead, feeling Keith’s eyes on him, and he felt his face heat considerably.
“Shiro you don’t have to freak out, it’s fine,” Keith laughed, and then shuffled his feet, “I was actually kind of hoping you’d kiss me in there.”
Shiro’s head whipped towards him but now it was Keith’s turn to look away with a blush dusting his cheeks. Shiro watched him for a few moments and then made up his mind.
“Well… can I kiss you now instead?”
Keith turned back, “Please.”
Shiro stepped closer into Keith’s space and Keith immediately wrapped his arms around Shiro’s shoulders. There was one more moment of hesitation as they stared at one another, and then Keith was pushing up on his toes to meet Shiro halfway.
It was like a spark between them and Shiro immediately wanted more. He pushed Keith back against the concrete wall of Little Root, and Keith hugged him even tighter as he was pinned. He felt Keith bite and suck at his bottom lip and he groaned, his hands coming up to Keith’s face to hold him still as they kissed deeper.
At least until he heard the bell above the tavern door ring as the door swung open. Shiro pulled back just in time to see Pidge and Matt walk out of the building.
Pidge saw them first.
“Finally!”
Shiro felt his ears burn but he wasn’t sure if it was from being caught or from Keith whispering in his ear.
Come home with me.

here, now and always (1,598)
Lance comes home to a surprise. One of Keith’s missions ended earlier than expected, so he’s here to visit Lance. They banter, they comfort and are comforted, and they just enjoy being with each other again.
PAIRING: Keith/Lance
RATING: teen and up audiences

When Lance begins to head back to the house, the sun has already started setting. It makes him want to extend his short journey into a long one—the sky becomes painted with beautiful pinks and oranges, and he’s tempted to stop so he can savour every moment of it, becoming a part of the canvas. Sunsets remind him that he’s on Earth, he’s home, and they hold many cherished memories for him. One of which, he finds, is waiting for him at the bottom of the steps leading up to the veranda.
The moment Lance spots Keith, he snaps out of his reverie-like state and immediately launches himself at the man, wrapping his legs around his waist and swinging his arms around his neck. Keith catches him easily, and holds him steady as if he weighs nothing, chuckling as Lance desperately clings onto him. When Lance pulls back, he looks down into indigo eyes, and sees stars in them. Keith smiles up at him, whispers a simple ‘surprise’, and then Lance is on him again.
How long has it been since they’ve kissed? Probably only a few months, or weeks at shortest, but still too long nonetheless. Lance drinks it in now, the way Keith’s lips feel against his own, the way he tastes, the way he makes those breathy noises when they come up for air. Lance has his hands in Keith’s hair—still long, although he wears it in a ponytail now—and grabs fistfuls of it. Keith starts to tap his fingers against Lance, an indication he’s going to let go, and Lance drops down immediately, only because he understands how itchy one’s hands can get when they aren’t doing anything.
Lance hugs Keith again when they finally stop kissing, as if to make sure he’s really here, and then Keith pecks the area under his ear, the space between his eyes, and the corner of his mouth, before pressing his lips against Lance’s again, just to prove that he is.
They head into the house after, Lance leaping over the stairs and swinging the door open for Keith, who takes one step at a time, moving at a slow, easy pace. He smiles when he reaches the top, and even after all these years, it leaves Lance awestruck. Lance gives a grin of his own, then holds out his hand for Keith to take.
“Welcome home.”
After dinner, where Lance’s family got to talk with Keith more than Lance himself did, they go to Lance’s room. It’s on the far end, still attached to the main dwelling, but self-contained, so it’s basically like another house. Most of other rooms are like this too. The family had the house designed this way so everyone could have their own private spaces, while also having a main kitchen, dining room, and living room where they could spend time together.
The room is now Keith’s as much as it is Lance’s. Since beginning their relationship, Keith visited Earth more frequently, and spent longer periods of time here. He always stayed with Lance, because they had the room, and it was a lot more convenient. Keith was so careful around the space at first, and when Lance told him to just treat it like his own home, he said he couldn’t. He didn’t have one on Earth, not anymore. After that, Lance declared that this would be his home now, for as long as he was here.
Keith settled in quite well, actually. He has his own closet and set of drawers, although he’s never had many belongings, so Lance takes over half of his area. He has his own toiletries too, and since there are two sinks in the bathroom he gets his own, but the two of them share a toothbrush holder—which is really just a cup—that sits in the middle. Lance thinks it’s very cute, but when he sees it there while Keith is away, it often results in sharp pangs of longing.
He’s here now though, and Lance is upset his family got more time with him.
“Come on,” Keith draws out the syllables, “you have me all to yourself now.”
“I know, but I could’ve had you for longer,” Lance whines.
Keith steps close to Lance, their chests almost flush. He leans forwards so their foreheads touch, breaths mingling together as they breathe. “You’ve got me until the end of time.”
Lance lets out a shaky laugh, overwhelmed with emotion. He closes his eyes, biting his bottom lip to keep from smiling too hard. God, this man is ridiculous. When he recovers, he pushes against Keith’s chest playfully, putting some distance between them. “If you wanted to get into my pants, you should’ve said that in uniform.”
“I can’t believe this!” Keith fakes exaggerated shock, and lets out a gasp. “And here I thought you wanted me for me! You’ve just been after the outfit the whole time, haven’t you?!”
“Shit,” Lance looks away, before bringing his hands up in surrender, “you got me.”
Keith shakes his head, forms a gun with his hands, and pretends to shoot Lance. Lance plops backwards onto his bed with a hand over his heart, and lets out his final breath. There’s a moment of silence before they both start laughing.
“When’re we ever going to grow up?”
“Hey,” Lance protests, “we are very mature adults.”
“If you say so.”
Lance lies on his bed, staring up at the ceiling, while Keith does whatever he’s doing. He turns his head and looks out the window after a bit, sees all the stars in the sky, and is reminded of his time in space, but not the good times. He turns back.
“Sometimes I still can’t believe you’re here with me,” he says frankly.
“What do you mean?” Keith’s voice sounds distant, he must be at the other end. There’s a rustling that tells Lance he’s taking off his jacket.
“Well, with everything that happened, everything I thought I’d lose, everything I did lose, I—” Lance suddenly chokes up, tears welling in his eyes. He covers his face with his hands, and lets out a long breath, trying to get a hold of himself. Keith is beside him almost immediately, bed dipping where Keith’s knees dig in before he lies down.
Slowly, Lance’s hands are removed from his face, and replaced with Keith’s. Keith holds his face delicately, and when Lance turns to face him, he places a kiss on Lance’s forehead. He then rubs his thumbs over Lance’s Altean markings, and they make the soft sound that means they’re glowing.
“Hey, it’s okay.”
“I’m sorry.”
The moment Lance speaks, he starts to cry. He grasps onto Keith’s shirt, then curls in on himself. Keith wraps his arms around him, pulling him closer. Lance is pressed against Keith’s chest, he can hear his heartbeat, and it helps calm him down. Time passes, but they don’t move. They lie there, melded together, as one.
Lance must’ve fallen asleep, because when he comes to again, it’s a lot darker in the room. Keith is still holding him, running his hand up and down his back, whispering sweet nothings into his hair. When he tilts his head and peeks up, Keith pulls back a bit so they can see each other more clearly, and smiles.
“Hey.”
“Hi.”
“You feeling better?”
“Yeah,” Lance nods, as best he can, “thanks.”
Keith kisses the top of his head, then lets Lance stretch out his body. He turns on the bedside lamp in the meantime. When Lance is done, he rests his head on the same pillow as Keith. He simply watches his boyfriend, who watches him back.
And then, Lance brings his hand up, ever so slowly, to rests it against Keith’s cheek. A moment later, he moves it under his jaw, and gently runs his thumb along the sharp line. With his other hand, he traces along the other side of Keith’s face, letting his fingers linger on his mark.
“Is it… Is it a scar?” Lance realises he’s never actually asked about it. It doesn’t feel like a scar, but he doesn’t know how else it could’ve appeared.
“I don’t know actually,” Keith takes the hand off his neck and threads their fingers together, “it kind of hurt when I got it? And there was something that sounded like searing, but maybe that’s meant to happen. It could just be a Galra feature. I’m not sure why this one stayed, and not the others.”
Lance hums. “I guess we’ll never know.”
“You know what I do know, though?” Keith rolls on top of Lance, and hovers over him. Lance knows where this is going, but he plays along.
“Enlighten me.”
“I know,” Keith starts, “how much I love you.” Lance’s heart skips a beat. He’ll never tire of hearing this.
“And…” Lance twirls a loose piece Keith’s hair with his finger.
“And, I know how much you love me,” Keith presses lightly against Lance’s lips.
“And…” Lance mumbles it against Keith’s mouth.
“And, I know that no matter how far apart we are, I am still here, as you are with me…”
“Now and always.”
Keith finally lets himself sink down on Lance, who has been waiting, and more promises are shared, albeit silent this time, between their tender touches and mellow murmurs. Between their kisses, rushed then slow, they devote their souls to one another, so they may find each other again in other lifetimes, for how lucky are they to have found someone who matches them so perfectly?

Keith and Lance’s Complementary Arcs + Why Keith will Confess First
One of the reasons I love klance so much and why I think they were meant to get together from the beginning is because they have complementary arcs that could really work well together if the writers don’t, like massively mess it up.
Keith’s Arc
If we look at Keith, he’s described as a “loner” (s3e2) and in his vlog, he admits that he’s “naturally untrusting because my mom left me so instead of accepting people into my life I push them away before they reject me. I guess I have some walls up.” In s1e4 he gets angry at Pidge for prioritizing her brother and father over the universe and in s1e11 he even suggests that it might be a bad idea to save Allura because it could compromise Voltron. Once again, Keith values the macro over the micro. The macro is important, of course, but Keith is specifically unbalanced in his priorities over each. He throws himself into missions and training, without really cultivating his interpersonal relationships.
In s4e1 we see Keith pulling away from the team, gravitating towards the Blade of Marmora who emphasize a similar value to his own “the mission is more important than the individual” which is then paralleled to Voltron, who would save a team member even if it is not in the mission’s best interest. On Team Voltron, every team member is important and valued.
Taking this into account, it’s clear to see that Keith’s arc is about him allowing himself to be vulnerable enough to be loved and to love others. It’s about taking that risk to let others into his life, even though he might lose them, which, Keith frequently has (see: his mom, his dad, and Shiro). He has walls up to protect himself from caring, so his arc will involve breaking down those walls and letting others be close to him.
Lance’s Arc
Lance, in a lot of ways, is a foil to Keith. Lance gives love freely and is one of the more trusting members of the team (if not the most trusting). While he has a more balanced idea of the importance of the macro and micro of their mission, Lance understands it on a more personal level. In s4e1 when the team is voicing their grievances against Keith’s absence Lance cites that he put not only the team in danger “but the refugees as well”, in contrast to Pidge who goes one step further to say the whole quadrant was in danger. There’s a bigger emotional impact on the word “refugees” than “quadrant” as it makes you focus on the people. It makes it more personal and Lance is just someone who genuinely cares about others’ well being.
Lance has shown us this is true on multiple occasions. In s2e2 he avoids hurting Hunk while Hunk is mind swished, in s1e4 he pushes Coran out of the way of the rover bomb despite barely knowing him, he fights back against Keith when he suggests not going after Allura in s1e11, he protects and calls Laika a friend in s2e10, and he even goes to comfort Keith (with no prompting) in s3e1 during the infamous “hey man” scene. I could go on and on, honestly. There are so many examples of him being a good friend to others (yes, Dreamworks, even to Keith 😒 ). He cares and he shows that he cares often. He puts effort into his interpersonal relationships.
However, like Keith, he has trouble receiving love, but in a different way. His flirtatious advances get rejected often.  In v1i4 of the comics, Lance says his heart has been “broken many times” and we’ve seen his attempts at Allura fail spectacularly within the show. In s1e6 he’s rejected more cruelly by Nyma who pretends to be interested to steal his lion. With the exception of Plaxum, he’s had a rough go of it in that department. Despite all this, he still loves love as made evident in v2i2 of the comic where he has a whole guide devoted to it (where he says “you have to make yourself vulnerable” and “create opportunities” if you wanna fall in love which is...pretty good advice for someone who does the opposite...like Keith...)
So, Loverboy Lance is a thing but he doesn’t actually get love that often. Of course, the team does love and value him but it’s not actually shown that often, at least in contrast to how often Lance shows his affection.
Then, you have Lance and his feelings of inferiority. We see this crop up first in s2e10 when he wonders if he’s “just a seventh wheel”, it crops up again in s3e2 with the Black and Blue Lions rejecting him, then in s3e6 where he confides in Keith that it may be best if he steps aside, acknowledging that he believes he is the weakest link and least deserving of a lion. As a coping mechanism, he hides these insecurities under bravado and boasting, and even his rivalry with Keith is clearly Lance dealing with feeling inferior to him. So, then, what is Lance’s arc about? It’s not as cut-and-dry as Keith’s, but basically, his is about honest-to-goodness self-love that he doesn’t have to fake and being loved for who he really is. In this interview Lauren said:
“But Lance is very concerned with how he looks to everyone, and how he fits into this world. And I think people started to pick up on who Lance was, and he wasn’t actually all bravado. It was all just a put on. Just a show...She [the Blue Lion] saw someone who needed confirmation that they were valuable to this team. Even though they didn’t believe it in themselves.“.
So, Lance, like Keith, has these walls up but they’re different. Keith’s walls are meant to keep others away, while Lance’s are meant to conceal. Underneath Lance’s bravado and loverboy persona is someone else, someone else that Lance doesn’t think is good enough. While he conceals himself, it’s clear that he really wants to be loved and tries to pull it from people, in a way. This is just my interpretation, but whenever Lance compliments himself, there’s a silent “right?” tacked onto it. He’s hoping people will agree with him and give him validation. He flirts a lot too, in hopes of being loved and his eagerness is probably one of the reasons he’s been unsuccessful. Their Arcs Together What’s cool about both of their arcs is that they both focus on the need to be loved (platonic and otherwise) but with different obstacles. While Keith pushes away from love, Lance tries to pull it from others. Now, if the show does explore a romantic relationship between the two of them, then their arcs will intersect in a way that helps them learn from each other.
For Lance, being loved by Keith would be a difficult thing for him to accept because he puts Keith on such a high pedestal. If Lance developed romantic feelings for Keith it would probably terrify him because if there’s anyone in the universe who wouldn’t love him, it’s Keith. They have a history, a history where Keith seemingly forgot all about him, while Lance could just recognize him from a distance by his hair alone (s1e1). He recognizes Keith as the better pilot when he offered to step down (s3e6), he boasts about how Keith is a talented pilot to Laika where he indirectly compares him to himself who “doesn’t have a thing” (s2e10), and the Black Lion chose Keith over him (s3e2). With Allura and all the other aliens he’s flirted with, he doesn’t have that history, doesn’t have the knowledge of their skills like he does with Keith. So, in a way, if Lance can believe and accept that Keith loves him, then it would help him love and accept himself by association. That’s not to say that Lance’s self-love should be dependent on Keith’s affections, just that it would be a nice thread in his self-worth journey. Then for Keith, oh boy. Keith’s arc is all about making himself available for love, so just the act of falling in love with Lance would be a major development for him and it would be hard because, similar to how Lance would feel about Keith, the scariest person for Keith to fall in love with is Lance. Lance has been antagonistic towards Keith since the beginning and made his distaste for him known. More than that, Keith has seen Lance, the friendliest and most trusting of the Paladins (even including Hunk who didn’t trust Nyma and Rolo), be nice and flirty with well, everyone except for him. If Keith allows himself to fall in love with Lance, it will mean he was able to tear down a lot of the walls he built up. Like Lance, the tearing down of these walls shouldn’t be dependent on Lance, but just a contributing factor.
That being said…
Why Keith Should Confess First As I established earlier, Keith pushes away love while Lance tries to pull it out of others. Simply, it would be much more poignant to both of their storylines if Keith were to make his feelings known first.
Keith, who rejects others before getting rejected himself, makes himself vulnerable and actively tries to get closer to someone while Lance, a person who is always trying to get closer to others, has to accept that he is wanted by someone he feels is superior to him.
It’s a far harder thing for both of them to do, which is why it has the potential to be a really cathartic, climactic scene for their arcs. It would also illustrate why they’d be so good for each other--the act of loving the other would help them grow.
Anyway, klance is cannon king

for anyone saying bi lance is dead
alright so this is probably going to get a bit long so i’ll put the bulk of it under the cut.
but let’s start with what’s caused this: the interview with jeremy and bex where they supposedly shut down bi lance and anything else that has to do with it. i don’t know what anyone else is seeing, but to me, they neither confirmed nor denied anything. all they talked about was the fact that many people in the fandom take what they say and blow it out of proportion. and, to be fair, they’re not wrong about it. it’s exactly what’s happening right now. they weren’t explicitly saying lance wasn’t bisexual, nor were they confirming that he indeed was. in my opinion, they said the only thing they could. they’re both professionals. they’ve both signed NDAs.  these are their jobs. they can’t just outright say whatever they want just because it’ll please us fans.
now let’s move onto what’s a little more important: THE ACTUAL SHOW ITSELF
look, i don’t know about you guys, but when i analyse this kind of stuff, i try and look at it from a logical point of view. do my shipping goggles sometimes cloud my vision? ABSOLUTELY. i’m a lance and klance stan first, so naturally, my view will sometimes be biased. but everything i’m about to say, i’ve looked at through a logical, storytelling point of view, so let’s get started shall we?
i’m not going to go too much into this first detail because there are hundreds of metas on this already, but if you guys have watched the show, you know how many hints there are of lance being part of the lgbt community. i mean, you could write a post just on the entirety of Taking Flight. The colour coding (the bi and gay flag colours), the looks shared between lance and keith (”hey lance! i got your lion back :) thank you, keith. now, can you come and unchain me?).
voltron is an animated show. it’s not a live-action, where the way actors interpret scenes can lead people to find things that simply aren’t there (i don’t want to throw anything under the bus, but destiel from supernatural is a prime example of this). with animation though, every little second counts. and for a show like voltron, where each episode is only about 24 minutes, this becomes even more apparent. they wouldn’t waste time, money, and effort into drawing out and animating a scene if it didn’t carry importance. couple that with what JDS and LM have said about including certain facial expressions into characters if they know it plays a role later on, and i have to believe that these “hints” all have reason to be there.
this brings to me to my second point: the bonding moment.
i know this has been mentioned in literally every klance meta ever, but the simple fact that it exists, that the voltron crew took the time and money to animate it, is saying something. it served no purpose other than to establish a bond between lance and keith, in an episode where their friendship wasn’t even at the forefront. they didn’t have a mini arc like in Eye of the Storm, where they were at odds with each other at the beginning, but worked together better by the end. the bonding moment was simply that. a moment, which, from a storytelling point of view, was honestly kind of random. but it existed. the crew used up precious seconds to animate lance and keith grasping hands and smiling at each other, all the while bathed in soft, purple lighting.
if it didn’t mean anything, if it was in no way important, they wouldn’t have placed such a big emphasis on it.
but moving on.
i want to address the picture LM drew when voltron first came out. i’m not going to attach it here, but i know everyone knows what i’m talking about (the picture of the paladins with the signs: race, gender, and lgbt). in it, shiro and lance are holding the lgbt sign. when it first came out, and then especially after the arcs with keith and pidge occurred, many of us believed it meant lance was going to get an arc related to sexuality, and that shiro was going to help him through it. after today, with shiro being confirmed to have had a boyfriend back on earth, some believe that it means voltron has given us the lgbt rep they promised, and that there is nothing more to say. now, i’m extremely happy with shiro’s announcement, but i do not believe voltron is finished.
everything else in LM’s picture has come true. keith struggled with being galra, and hunk played a role in his arc. pidge struggled with telling the team she was a girl, and allura played a role in her arc. shiro, from what it looks like, does not struggle with being part of the lgbt community. he had a boyfriend. LM confirmed that had it not been for the kerberos mission, he and adam likely would have gotten married. so, shiro is not the one needing help in that regard.
but who else was in that drawing?
lance.
lance, who from day one, has always been about “the ladies”.
lance, who in my opinion, would struggle immensely if he came to the sudden realization that he also liked boys.
lance, who would indeed go to shiro to ask for advice and help on how to come to terms with it.
in the picture, lance has a very shy smile on his face. he looks as though he is nervous or hesitant, like he is unsure and vulnerable. shiro has a hand on his shoulder and a very calm expression. he is supporting him.
but voltron would need a logical way for this to occur, and this is where klance comes in.
up until now, if you disregard all the scenes between him and keith, lance has very much been about allura. he likes her, far more than any other girl he’s liked before. if voltron does indeed have lance identify as lgbt, his arc with allura cannot solely be it. it does not make sense for lance to go to shiro, asking for advice on his new attraction to boys, if there’s no boy there to begin with. lance needs to like, or at least be attracted to a boy in order for him to realize that perhaps he’s not straight. and the only logical character for that?
keith.
why? process of elimination. it can’t be hunk, because he and lance simply do not share enough scenes to justify it. it can’t be shiro, because he will be the one to support lance, and i suspect that his arc with adam is far from finished. it can’t be matt, because like hunk, he and lance do not have enough interaction. and it certainly won’t be coran. unless voltron introduces a completely new male character (which at this point, although plausible, is doubtful), the only person left is keith.
and it gives lance another reason to seek shiro’s advice. he knows keith. they’re best friends. brothers. and lance knows it.
another reason it can only be keith?
because, from a storytelling point of view, their arc is unfinished. seasons one, two, and three gave us many interactions between them. they placed a lot of emphasis on their dynamic (”lance and keith, neck and neck”). they built it up from a childish rivalry to a place where both of them felt comfortable enough to go to the other with their insecurities. and then season four came around, and all that growth came to a halt. it left you reeling, because you were expecting their arc to continue as opposed to disappearing.
there was no closure.
arcs are supposed to have endings. if a character has an arc, you are meant to be able to identify the beginning, climax, and end of it. with pidge, her arc came to a close with her finding her brother and father. this does not mean she does not have any more important scenes coming, but from a narrative standpoint, her main conflict has been dealt with.
with keith and lance, you cannot identify this ending. you can pinpoint the beginning, and you can pinpoint all that has happened after it, but there is no scene that gives us the sense of closure that comes with the ending of an arc. these boys have more coming. their relationship will progress, simply because not doing so would only be bad writing (which granted, voltron has had before, but this does not seem like the kind of thing that has not been thoroughly thought out). and even if they only remain friends, you will be able to feel it when their arc comes to a close.
and, i don’t know about you, but that leaves me feeling pretty excited for what’s yet to come.
so how do i see lance’s sexuality arc playing out?
if voltron does indeed have lance be a part of the the lgbt community, then the way i am about to describe is, in my opinion, the most logical way for it to occur.
the first half of season seven will see lance getting over allura. it will be hard, but he’ll eventually come to terms with it and move on. the second half of the season will see lance and keith’s friendship strengthening, with them interacting more and growing closer. during this time, we might see hints of lance beginning to like keith. he might go to shiro for advice sometime during the end of the season, but i do not see that being likely. not yet, anyway.
the first half of season eight will see keith and lance’s friendship becoming even closer. by this point, if we are getting klance, both of them should like the other, and we as the audience should be able to tell. during the end of this half, or the beginning of the second half of season eight, lance will go to shiro for advice, who will in turn support him and help him better understand his feelings. lance will gain more confidence after this, and the end of the second half of the season should see keith and lance getting together.
now, all this is hypothetical, but i truly feel that if we are indeed getting lgbt lance and endgame klance, we will be able to see the beginnings of it in the upcoming season. there are only two seasons of the show left, and if we get no convincing klance interactions or lgbt lance hints in season seven, i do not know how likely either have of becoming canon. but i cannot deny the logic. looking at past episodes and seeing the patterns, i truly do believe there is a good chance for both klance and lgbt lance.
now, this has gotten much longer than i intended, so i’m going to end it here. i don’t know how much of this made sense (if any, LOL), but i hope you enjoyed it.
‘till next time, guys!

Sheith Fic Rec II
Please go check out my first Sheith fic rec post!
Yes, I had to make another and who knows if this will be the last. Everyone is so talented~
Just like my first post, these are some Sheith fics I’ve read that I recommend to everyone! I have them by oneshots and multiple chapters and each fic has the rating, word count, warnings, a general summary, and what I liked about it.
I will not be coming back to make edits if a fic has been updated, so keep in mind that this is being posted on November 3rd and that some may have changed depending when you look at this.
Enjoy!
Oneshots
a small request by wintersong general, established relationship, 850 words, no warnings
Keith asks Shiro if he can call him a specific name. I love fics like this. They’re very heartwarming.
a world for two by anglmukhii/shaerrah teen, pre-kerberos, 2000 words, suggestive themes
It’s their last night together before Kerberos, so they spend it at the shack. I also really love fics like this and the fluff was very strong.
anaphora by ranchboiii general, post season seven, 1000 words, no warnings
Keith makes Shiro coffee on a cold morning. Reading morning routines between these two is so fun to read and I like how this one is written. Also, Keith calls Shiro a pet name and that always makes me smile.
dream-sweet love by starboykeith/starboykeith general, slice of life, 1500 words, no warnings
Older and married Sheith. This fic is also about morning routines and I think it captures them very well. There really is something about this particular type of domestic fluff.
earth to kuiper 2329, calling by redluxite (wordstruck)/okwtr teen, alternate universe, 3600 words, no warnings
Shiro is an astronaut and Keith is a student who gets in contact with his station, and after a while, it becomes routine. Their interactions through this is so cute and the end is even cuter.
echos swell and subside by xyriath/disastergayshirogane mature, recovery, 10,000 words, referenced abuse
Shiro has a nightmare and ends up hurting Keith in the process. I remember this being one of the first Sheith fics I ever read and thinking how beautiful the angst was. I don’t think I could ever forget this fic.
everybody knows that you love me baby by adamantine/adamantineheart  teen, post season seven, 9000 words, hints of nsfw
Everyone begins to figure out that there’s something else going on between the leader of Voltron and the captain of Atlas. I love how many characters were involved and seeing their reactions. This fic also made me love Kinkade more.
how to train your blanket burrito by sheithism/sheithism teen, sick fic, 3000 words, hints of nsfw
Keith tends to take a while to get out of bed and it becomes worse when he’s sick. Shiro and the space wolf having to wake Keith up every morning? Count me in.
i’ve got your grasping hand by dimplelegacymila mature, five plus one, hurt and comfort, 6000 words, nsfw content
Shiro has apologized to Keith five times, but one time he didn’t mean it. This is also in my list of “First Sheith fics I ever read”. I sometimes tend to stumble upon this one and remember how much I love it, so I need to put it on the list.
in the morning i’ll be fine by stardropdream/stardropdream teen, post season seven, hurt and comfort, 4000 words, implied sexual content
Shiro keeps apologizing for his nightmares, but Keith assures him it’s alright. As I said in my last fic rec post, I love hurt and comfort. This one has everything I need.
it’s a simple thing (but it’s everything) by cosmicwolfs/cosmicwolfs teen, post season seven, domestic bliss, 1500 words, no warnings
Shiro has the day off, but Keith needs to run drills. Wow, another morning routine type of fic. Reading this makes my heart fill with joy because it’s just that cute.
left you burning too long by stardropdream/stardropdream teen, season seven, love confession, 3000 words, no warnings
Knowing that he has Shiro is a little overwhelming for Keith. This one really makes you feel their love and what they mean to each other. It took my breath away.
penguin shiro loves you, baby by inky  teen, penguin sheith au, 5000 words, no warnings
Inspired by the Sheith penguin AU (author believes this is the origin, I’m not sure myself), Lance opens a zoo and names two of the penguins after Shiro and Keith. I adore the penguin AU and this made it so much better.
sail across the sky just to get to you by stardropdream/stardropdream teen, getting together, 18,000 words, no warnings
It takes a month for Keith to figure out that he and Shiro are together. Reading the pining between these two can sometimes be a lot, but I love it. This had me smiling the entire time.
someone new by stardropdream/stardropdream teen, fake dating, 27,000 words, no warnings
Keith volunteers to go to a wedding with Shiro, and not as a friend, but as a fake boyfriend. Fake dating is always so fun to read because of the mutual pining. And sharing a bed? Hell yeah.
special delivery by inatrice mature, delivery boy au, 13,000 words, implied sexual content
Shiro orders food and begins to develop feelings for the delivery boy. I love the entire concept of this. I also really loved reading how their friendship became something more.
super-sargasso sea by prowomptowo teen, modern au, hurt and comfort, 3000 words, no warnings
Shiro has had troubles dating since he’s returned from war, but then Keith comes along. When I knew I was gonna make another fic rec post, I went through my history for at least an hour to hunt this one down. It really tugs on my heart.
the nearly wed show! by airawyn/thats-what-sidhe-said teen, engagement, 7500 words, no warnings
To continue helping the coalition, Shiro and Keith go to other planets to take part of their traditions after they become engaged. This was a fun read and I loved seeing other characters make an appearance as well.
the stars came falling on our heads by cosmicwolfs/cosmicwolfs general, season three, hurt and comfort, 2000 words, no warnings
Keith cuts Shiro’s hair. I also said this in my last fic rec post, but I love fics like this as well. I think it’s very intimate and shows their bond. This fic showed that beautifully.
the things we can’t fix by inky mature, yeehaw au, hurt and comfort, 3000 words, no warnings
Based on the Yeehaw AU, Shiro comes home one night and Keith knows something is wrong, but Shiro won’t say what. I really love the Yeehaw AU and this captured their beautiful and supportive relationship.
these howling ghost will cleave our lionhearts, but still we roar by prettyshiroic (kcgane)/kcgane mature, modern au, business trip, 5500 words, no warnings
Keith’s job asks for him to go away for three weeks, which is the longest he’s been away from Shiro in a while, and doesn’t know if he should do it. Keith’s job being that he can connect with big cats and helps them? I never knew I needed this.
together we make a family by anecdotalist/likealeafonthewind general, post season seven, fake marriage, 15,000 words, no warnings
Shiro tells the paramedics that he’s Keith’s husband so he can stay with him while in the hospital. Post season seven fics that take place in the hospital are my cup of tea, especially with Shiro wanting to be close to Keith. This entire fic was a very good cup of tea.
whisper by soulofme no rating, dialogue only, 250 words, no warnings
Keith tells Shiro a secret. Reading a dialogue fic was different, but I loved it. It was very in character and I was able to easily imagine this happening between them.
you & me (mother already knows) by inky mature, post season seven, fluff and humor, 4000 words, no warnings
Next part of this fic and part two of series. Krolia spends some time alone with Shiro while in Keith’s hospital room. This was a wonderful continuation to the first part and I love reading Shiro and Krolia bonding over their love for Keith.
Multiple Chapters
a self-fulfilling prophecy of endless possibility by spectrespecs/exitlude teen, outsider perspective, 14,000 words, no warnings, complete (2/2)
The growth of Shiro and Keith through the eyes of Iverson. Outsider perspective fics are always nice to read and reading it through Iverson was really interesting. I thought this was very heartwarming.
bring it home to you baby by tagteamme/phaltu explicit, sugar daddy au, 63,000 words, nsfw content, complete (6/6)
Shiro offers to pay for Keith’s items that he accidentally broke, but it doesn’t stop there. I loved reading how much closer these two got throughout the story just as much as Shiro loves spending money on Keith. It’s what he deserves.
emotional sexual bender by pumpkinless/disloyalpunk explicit, frat au, 9000 words, nsfw content, complete (2/2), part two of series
Keith shows up at Shiro’s expecting sex, but gets a meal instead. I love the Frat AU and I love how this part shows that Shiro wants more. Make sure to read part one before reading this one!
every breath you take by arahir/arahir explicit, mermaid au, 25,000 words, nsfw content, ongoing (4/6)
Keith has always been told to stay away from the water. I’ve never read a mermaid AU before, so this one is really fun to read! Shiro giving Keith gifts is really cute as well.
flesh & electricity by arcadenemesis/copilotsheith explicit, phantom limb pain, 56,000 words, suggestive themes, complete (3/3)
Shiro has been experiencing phantom limb pain and Keith is there to help. This fic is absolutely gorgeous and I stopped anything I was doing to read an update. I think about this fic a lot.
hello, i love you, won’t you tell me your name  by perzimon/perzimon teen, anesthesia, 12,000 words, explicit language, complete (2/2)
Keith gets his wisdom teeth removed and has a lot to say about Shiro. I finally got around to reading this fic and now I understand why everyone loves it. This is one of the funniest fics I’ve ever read.
i like me better (when i’m with you) by cherryburlesque/sheikofthesheikah and sagesins explicit, college au, 25,000 words, nsfw content, complete (6/6)
Shiro liked to keep Friday nights to himself, but now he spends them paying attention to the guitarist of Matt’s new band. I think this is the first band AU that I’ve read and I really enjoyed it! Their interactions and time together was really cute.
lost and found by rosegardenlake/whoalookingcooljoker teen, hurt and comfort, 8000 words, suggestive themes, complete (2/2)
Keith has never had the greatest birthdays, but Shiro makes them better. I’m glad that Keith can spend his birthdays with the ones he loves. This fic also features Keith’s dad, which I really enjoy reading.  reaching for orbit by kittymills/flashedarrow mature, past relationships, 23,000 words, no warnings, complete (2/2)
Shiro and Keith see each other for the first time in a while and with that comes their past. The mix of mutual pining and angst was beautiful and done really well. Also, reading about Shiro having a kid and Keith helping out pulled on my heart strings.
recovery room by kasen mature, college au, 14,000 words, nsfw content, ongoing (4/?)
Keith has a lot to say about his nurse and Lance got it all on film. This is so cute and made me feel Keith’s embarrassment. It’s also fun learning more about these two through videos they’re shown.
slow down (i just wanna get to know you) by tagteamme/phaltu teen, snail racing au, 21,000 words, suggestive themes, complete (3/3)
Shiro and Keith may be enemies when they compete, but it’s a different story off the track. A snail racing AU is something I never thought I’d read, but Sheith can work with anything. This has changed my views on snail racing.
the stars as no one else has them by annathaema (moony)/annathaema mature, college au, 40,000 words, implied sexual content, complete (13/13)
There’s a guy that keeps waving at Keith on campus and finally, Keith approaches him. They are both so cute in this fic. The ending of this fic actually made me gasp.
to the beat of our drums by flusteredkeith/flusteredkeith teen, marching band au, 17,000 words, no warnings, ongoing (1/3)
Shiro, the drum major, knows Keith will one day be a great drum captain after he graduates. As someone who was in marching band and has definitely thought of these two in that setting, I had the biggest smile on my face while reading this. Percussion and drum major suits these two well and Shiro yelling band commands is everything I’ve ever wanted.
we will call this place our home by novaviis/novaviis mature, post war, 20,000 words, nsfw content, ongoing (4/6)
The life of Shiro and Keith after the war. No matter how many fics I read like this, they never get old. Everything about this is so domestic and it makes me feel warm.
with every leaf a miracle by cosmicbees/patienceyieldslove teen, flower shop au, 9000 words, no warnings, complete (3/3)
Shiro works at a flower shop and Keith keeps coming in to buy something. I love anything that involves these two and flowers. This fic does a wonderful job showing just how much of a gay disaster Shiro is and I love it.

Together This Time
Read It On AO3
Tagging: @soccialcreature you said you wanted me to tag you when I finally wrote in this universe WELL THE DAY IS HERE
Words: 1,542
Summary: With every decision made a parallel universe is made. A world that is completely different just because of one single decision.
This time everything changes, when instead of just mentoring Keith, Shiro takes him in and fosters him.
This time Adam is there for Keith when Shiro is not. And this time he is there when he rescues Shiro. This time he’s there through every crazy space adventure.
Everything changes.
Or: The Multiple One Shot Rewrite No One Asked For But You’re Getting Anyway
This time, Adam tags along when the team finds the blue lion. Shiro and Adam talk.
A/N: So! This is a one shot set in my new universe. I’m doing my own fix it of sorts with the series. It won’t be a full story, because I frankly can’t put that on my plate right now but! I am going to write one shots, which will essentially be peaks into the story. Some will be centered on different relationships, platonic and romantic, and some will be more plot based.
This one is Adashi centered, as Adashi is going to become a large part of the series and I needed to establish their place in the story first. If you have any questions about this au feel free to ask! Also sorry for any mistakes, I don’t have a beta and I wrote this when I was quite tired lol
Anyways without further ado here is my first one shot in this universe Together This Time!
It’s not so much that Shiro doesn’t want Adam to come with them- quite the opposite really, seeing as he hasn’t seen Adam in years, or however long he was gone after the Kerberos mission (keeping track of time while in a prison cell is trickier than one might think) and he has missed Adam every single day since he left.
The thing is, aliens are after him. Crazy as it seems, there are bloodthirsty aliens after him who aren’t too thrilled their champion (wait where did that word come from?) got away. And the last thing he wants is for Adam to get wrapped up in this.
Though really, he already was the minute he tagged along on Keith’s ridiculous yet somehow effective rescue mission. And there is the issue of Keith sensing some sort of energy, and Shiro already knows there is no way Adam will let well enough alone when Keith is involved. Because he would and is doing the exact same.
“Look, I’m going with you ok?” Adam tells him when Shiro pulls him aside. “We have no idea what these energy signatures are. If these aliens want it, it’s going to be dangerous.” His face softens for a moment, and Shiro can feel himself melt. “You’re alive, against all hope you’re here. I’m not letting you die now. Not when I can do something. You’re not leaving me behind again.”
And well, Adam always did know exactly what to say to get to him. “Adam.” He whispers, and they both know he’s won even if he tries to argue. “I- you know that’s not fair. Kerberos was-”
“-is ancient history.” Adam cuts off. “Look we can talk about this later, right now those kids- Keith needs us. You can complain all you want but I am coming with you.”
And just like that the argument is over and Adam breaks off from their whisper-shout-match to talk to Keith.
They’ve gotten closer since he’s been gone, Shiro notices. Keith and Adam had gotten along fine before, but they seemed actually close now. Which actually raises more questions like, why is their foster kid in a shack in the middle of nowhere rather than back home with Adam? What happened while he was gone?
They’re out the door before he can ask, and he doesn’t get the chance to ask before they’re in some sort of alien lion shooting off to who knows where. Because that’s Shiro’s life now apparently. Just one roller coaster after another.
When Lance asks if they should enter the portal, Shiro looks to Adam first. As if understanding his unsaid question, Adam brushes his hand against Shiro’s and nods. And next thing they all know they’re going through a portal and Shiro wonders what deity he pissed off to fling him into this situation.
It isn’t until much later, after a run in with a space princess, some space mice and a royal adviser, some revelation about a great destiny about lions and voltron and a space battle, that they actually get to talk.
Adam comes to Shiro’s room after everything has died down, because they need to talk damn it and Shiro isn’t getting out of this one.
“So I guess this is the part where we actually act like mature adults and speak to each other.” Adam speaks first because of course he does. He always was better at this... feelings thing than he was.
“I guess so. Where do we start?”
“I don’t know, pick a subject.” Adam rolls his eyes fondly.
Shiro sighs. “I guess I should start with saying I’m sorry. You were right. Kerberos was...definitely a bad idea.”
“It being a bad idea is not why I didn’t want you to go, you know that. At least I hope you do.”
“It isn’t?”
He laughed incredulously. “No you idiot! I didn’t want you to go because I wanted to spend what little time you had left with you, not the body bag they were inevitably going to be carrying back!” Adam’s voice rose slightly and Shiro cringed. He had really messed up hadn’t he?
“I didn’t- I didn’t want you to see me die.” Shiro admitted weakly.
“What?” Adam said his voice nearly a whisper. He had clearly not expected that answer.
This time it was Shiro’s turn to raise his voice. “I was already deteriorating enough. I didn’t want you to have to see me when it got worse. I didn’t want your last memory of me to be me withering away in front of you!”
“And I didn’t want my last memory of you to be your back out the door but I guess we don’t exactly get what we want do we?”
“I guess not.” Shiro replied childishly, crossing his arms and flopping gracelessly onto his bed.
Adam took off his glasses and rubbed at his eyes, Shiro remembers that look. The first time he ever saw it was when they were still teenagers and he somehow managed to get Shiro out of two weeks of detention.
For a prank that Adam had helped him with thank you very much so he had no right to be looking at him that way when he was equally as wrong but also that was legendary work thank you Adam.
It was the look he got when he was exasperated with you, but not angry enough to walk away. He missed that look.
“I missed you.” Shiro says before he can think.
Adam looks up and slowly puts his glasses back on with a sigh. “I missed you too, Ta- Shiro but-”
And good god that sounds absolutely wrong.
“Takashi.”
“What?”
“It’s always been Takashi for you.” And he can’t quite get out the ‘please never change that’ or the ‘it feels so wrong to hear Shiro from you now, so please don’t’ or the ‘please still love me’ but he hopes Adam can hear what he doesn’t say.
He thinks he just might, because Adam replies with the first genuine smile Shiro has seen from him since he was rescued. It’s not particularly wide or bright, but its there.
“Alright. Takashi.” He says as though trying the name on again, and the smile widens ever so slightly. And this time Adam can’t think of what to say so he just says. “I think I still love you.” There is no ‘i think’ about it, but he can at least retain a small bit of pride this way.
“I thought you weren’t going to wait for me.” It comes out a little choked and it is absolutely because it is dusty in here and not at all because he’s trying not to cry.
“I wasn’t, but I guess I was wrong. Didn’t help too much that you know, died. And I had a kid to watch over.”
There was a lot to unpack in that sentence, but Shiro started with more neutral territory. Keith. “What happened after I- you know. Was pronounced dead? Why wasn’t Keith back at our- your place?”
Adam’s face scrunched up in frustration for a moment. “He’s as bull-headed as you that’s why. He ran off when the news broke. I found him at the shack, he said it was where his dad raised him. Rather than force him to come home and potentially ruin any chance of keeping in contact with him, I let him. I checked on him whenever I could, I brought him the basics, ya know food, water, clothes.”
Shiro really did not feel like arguing, so he ignored the obvious flaws in that plan. “You guys seemed closer.”
“We are. We had a lot of time to talk over the past couple years. Mostly talked about you though admittedly.”
Shiro chuckled. “Should I be worried?”
“Oh definitely.” This time they both chuckled.
They sobered quickly, and there was silence. But not the uncomfortable overbearing type of silence. It was the kind of silence between two people who didn’t know where to move next.
Literally and figuratively.
Shiro hesitantly reached out to take Adam’s hand. “Is this ok?”
“Yes.” Adam replied, inching closer to Shiro. “Can I hug you?”
“Yes.” Shiro breathed and immediately was wrapped in Adam’s arms. They held each other close, melting against one another.
“This doesn’t mean things are fixed yet, Takashi.” Adam whispered.
“Yet?” Shiro echoed, hope slipping into his voice against his will.
“We still have a lot to talk about but... I think I’d like to try again. If you want to that is.”
Shiro felt as though his heart had stopped, he had hoped and dreamed Adam would be there when he returned, and yet here he was. And everything felt right.
“I mean if you don’t want to it’s ok. It’s been a long time, we’ve both changed-” Adam began pulling away, taking Shiro’s silence the wrong way.
Shiro panicked as Adam pulled away and tugged him back into his embrace. “I’d like that too. I never stopped loving you, Adam.”
Adam breathed out a sigh of relief and chuckled. “That’s good to hear.”
Shiro chuckled as well. “Yeah, it is.” He sobered for a moment. “Whatever comes next, we’ll handle it. Together this time.”
Adam nodded. “Together this time.”

relationship as equals. I quit Volt/ron because I got so involved in all the theories about kla/nce and hints from VAs that I was legitimately sad about everything.. After s6 got out I started watching and shipping it again bc yaaay loto/llura was Canon and Lance *gasp* complimented Keith. It was true love. And. Then it wasn't. At all. It all disappeared in s7 and Allura came back to Lance. I was again so angry for the producers promised something completely different for Lance than what he
started from and told that making Allu/rance Canon would be disrespectful for the characters. AT LEAST I wanted a scene in which Allura will realize that Lance is a very cool guy that will make her feel like a better person. But no. It was a little patchy but I started to realize that. A lot of things are patchy in this cartoon. And its not as good as Fandom makes it look. So I kinda understand the DreamWorks and Fandom's point of view. That being said you helped me see a lot of this
and I'm grateful for your posts. I'm not sure that I will continue to ship kl/ance although I think that lea/kira is a really cute idea. I'm sorry for this longass ask but I wanted to tell you that you and your opinions are very objective and valid. I think you see the Vo/ltron as it is and not only see the interactions of 2 specific characters. So I'm sorry that you lost followers but I'm grateful that you stay true to yourself.
i do agree that i thought they were going somewhere with keith and lance’s dynamic, and until s4/s5, i was pretty confident that it could be canon, and i’m disappointed that s7 removed the softness established in s3 even though they trust each other now.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
canon lot/ura died as soon as we found out what loto/r was doing, so it was before s7. allura and lance had been getting closer even after she started crushing on loto/r (they were basically BFFs), so she didn’t come back to him so much as just see him in a different light over time. as for lance being somewhere different than where he started--the scene in s6 when lance talked about being a heartbreaker showed us what they actually meant: that lance had wanted another fling at first, but he eventually realized that he wanted a serious relationship. i’m not sure what you mean about them saying that all/urance would disrespect the characters--LM just said that allura wouldn’t be using lance as a rebound because she cared about him too much. as for allura realizing that lance is cool--she’s the one who told him that he’s a natural, that he has greatness within, etc. she’s been the most supportive of lance in the whole series. it’s because of lance that she’s been able to unlock certain abilities and feel confident in herself.
the show isn’t perfect. my sister dropped it a few seasons ago because she was fed up with the multitude of plotlines that she felt were necessary. i’m frustrated with the direction of a lot of plotlines and the inconsistency in certain pre-established themes. overall, i really enjoy it (which is why i’m still watching it), but it isn’t without its flaws.
leak/ira would be cute to me if it didn’t have certain associations, but if it makes people happy, i certainly won’t begrudge them for enjoying it. as for me, i’ll just use keith’s s3 characterization when i ship kl/ance.
don’t apologize for long asks! and thanks for the compliment! i love attention, but never at the expense of authenticity. what’s the point if they don’t even like what you truly want to say? but honestly, i wasn’t upset about losing followers so much as amused that it highlighted how inconvenient i am, haha.
anyway--thank you for these asks, anon. i hope that you find happiness in some other part of fandom, whether that’s lea/kira or something else.

s6 relationship analysis (lance's character, angst, and faith in lgbt rep)
okay, so here's my take on s6.
i feel really odd? after watching it, i felt unbelievably sad and heartbroken, but not in a satisfying way. usually i love dramatic seasons that make me feel, but this was more of a... unfinished, prolonged grief that i felt.
i can say that this season was alright. it definitely has a lot of things i disliked and wish would improve, but overall animation and plot was... good/okay...
i'm going to skip over plot details and nitpicky little problems. i'm going to talk about relationships, because i'm definitely smarter in that area than analyzing the plot.
okay, first, allura and lotor.
in the first episode, you really can tell that they've gotten closer.
as the season progresses, they really find solace in each other and honestly, i think lotor really did love allura. but... not in the right way, not the way anybody should if they want to do it correctly. he didn't love her and put her over his morals and plan. he put his ambition over her. and as you know, he tried to kill her and the rest of her team.
but you can tell that she was dear to him for a while. unless i'm wrong and it was all an act.
i feel bad for allura. but i also feel bad for lotor. he had a rough childhood which made it tragic to see him follow his father's footsteps. that's all i have to say about it.
keith and shiro.
their relationship was a main part of this season and it'd be silly to ignore it. the fight scene between them almost got me crying. when keith said "you're my brother, i love you," it really made me feel for him. all of the flashbacks for keith were well-done.
although, i didn't expect there to be so many fake shiros in those cloning pods. it almost felt like it was too much of a fantasy, too much of a reach? it's a kids' show, i get it, but it seemed too unrealistic.
and just like pidge in s4, keith went by himself and after his long battle there weren't any questions about what happened. it felt,, unseen. it felt like it should've been touched on at least a little bit.
it was quite a big point for the plot, so to not even talk about it?
that was probably one of the biggest issues this season.
there were so many dramatic moments in this season, but once they were over, they weren't brought up again by the characters. not just this season, but really the whole show
let me give some examples:
lance sacrificing himself for coran. pidge finding matt's grave. shiro and sendak; shiro's ptsd (rarely spoken about to anyone). keith and shiro at the bom base.
now this season:
keith's battle between him and shiro. lance sacrificing himself for allura. lance being upset over allura. lance being made fun of by hunk and pidge. lance crying over shiro.
okay, you see why i'm centering around lance?
well, that's who i'm talking about next. and honestly, i'm not just going to choose a relationship between him and another character, for one reason.
whenever he's with another character, their problems are always put first. (there are exceptions, which only go back to s3, with lance seeking out keith.)
whenever he's with another character, their emotional distress is almost always put above his own.
this might be so for two reasons.
one, lazy writing. could be true.
two, that's just who lance is. we all know he's a very empathetic person, he naturally puts others' lives above his own. this is shown when he sacrifices himself to save coran and allura.
or, it's a mix of both, which is what i'm expecting honestly.
okay, well, establishing that...
lance this season was heartbroken.
if the voltron directors wanted to make me feel utterly sad and hopeless, then they did it.
not in a good way though. normally i love when characters are put through hardships, and they grow from it, but this... this was so much different.
for the ENTIRE SHOW, lance's self esteem has been lowering. i went back to watch some of the earlier episodes, and you can go back to season 2 to see where it really begins, but you can see how it keeps getting worse as time goes on.
it was so hard to watch as i continued on with each season. since lance is my favorite character, it made it even harder.
he loses a bit of his enthusiasm, and although he doesn't become a lifeless shell of a human, he is not the same.
the hardest thing about this isn't that his self esteem is low and he's depressed, it's the lack of concern from most of the team. it's the lack of addressing his issues in a healthy way.
as we watch the show, we are the only ones who know the extent of lance's insecurities. he always deals with it when he's away from the team, and i assume this is so because he's afraid the team will dislike him, and he will break his shell of bravado and confidence he's made.
EVEN SO, when the team IS around him, they never say anything. this fucking pisses me off.
as someone who has experienced similar things, being ignored and feelings made out to be less important than others, i really, really sympathize with lance. he's had signs that the team didn't pick up on, unlike other characters.
allura feeling sad? SOMEBODY is going to comfort her. pidge feeling sad? count on someone comforting her. shiro? keith?
they all had somebody to go to.
and even when lance is obviously hurting, right in front of the team, nobody goes to him. this is mostly after keith leaves.
hunk, his BEST FRIEND, and pidge, a close friend as well, only made him feel worse by mocking and making light of his pain.
his feelings are thrown under a rug, and then stepped on.
hell, even the mice made him sad by not listening to him. what the fuck?
and then there's allura and lotor.
i'm really not one to get super emotional during romances, but when lance was in the picture, or rather, excluded from the picture, i started to lose it.
he called himself a third wheel, and that he's "just a boy from cuba," and jesus christ, guys, he called himself PATHETIC.
and after all of the heartache he was put through, HE COMFORTS ALLURA.
after being essentially ignored by lotor and allura, sacrificing himself for allura and it never being brought up again, he comforts the person who was giving him the most sadness. lance literally DIED and was brought back to life.
i'm not bashing allura, but i wish she'd go to lance about his problems, rather than focusing on her own and hoping lance would reassure her.
lance didn't deserve that. he didn't fucking deserve that. he'd been heartbroken, ignored, depressed, and excluded and yet...
christ, after allura went to lance, the exact thought i had when watching her hug him and seeing his sad expression was "he's her second choice." he was made to feel like he was below lotor, like if lotor was still there, allura wouldn't have ever given him a chance. that must really fucking hurt to realize.
allura knew, after 6 seasons. finally SOMEONE knew about his low self-worth issues, and yet she ran into his arms crying about her insecurities. she knew but still ended up being the one comforted.
she should've at least talked about it to him, mentioned it, gotten it into the air that she wasn't in love with him, instead of giving him this... hope, only to be disappointed and heartbroken in the end. that's a really distressing situation, that i've also experienced, to keep getting your hopes up and having someone do it over and over until you're really tired.
i'm positive allura only sees lance as a close friend. the writers, if they aren't pulling our legs, set up their relationship so that it wouldn't make sense to put them together romantically. and right after lotor's betrayl, allura wouldn't naturally want another lover. that doesn't happen unless someone wants to distract themselves from an emotional issue, and usually it just,, doesn't happen at all. it doesn't make any sense to choose that in the story.
most of yall probably know what i'm leading up to.
yeah, lance and keith's relationship.
keith has gotten so much development, and lance has,, much less. they both have grown so much, but i really just want an episode with lance as the "main character." like keith. like keith and shiro battling, and keith and krolia having flashbacks.
this isn't to say lance hasn't gotten a lot of screentime, it's more noting that every time he really has a serious episode, he's sad and depressed. it's not healthy, it's just him being isolated and lonely. it's not as much of him growing, it's more of him becoming more and more insecure and excluded.
i just want him to be happy.
hopefully when they go back to earth, lance will be the one to step into the spotlight for a much longer time. i want him to resolve his issues, and i really just,, want lance to fall in love. i think he deserves to fall in love, after everything.
if you think lance and keith are endgame, i agree with you. there's so much evidence for it, which is a totally different post for a different time.
i really just want somebody to treat lance right for once? i want keith to give him a break, let him relax, reassure him, HUG HIM, let him talk about his feelings so he doesn't bottle them up, and just love him,,?
maybe i'm being dramatic but i see so much realism in lance as a character, his emotions, his distress; he's so realistic in that his feelings really seem the most relatable out of all of the characters in the show.
i just feel so bad for him,,? he said, while allura hugged him, that he was a person who "made a million mistakes." he is way harder on himself than most of the paladins, i think. lance isn't a bad person, but he thinks he could do better, when he's already kind to others. he cried over shiro because he BLAMED HIMSELF. imagine having someone's death on your shoulders, and just breaking down.
if yall know korra, then you know that this show is most likely going to do something similar to how korra's relationships in the love triangle went. although it is way more different because allura doesn't reciprocate lance's feelings unlike korra and her first boyfriend. i think lance is going to find something he loves more in keith than in allura. i think they're going to keep progressing in that keith really listens to lance, unlike the other members of the team.
i think in the last season of voltron, lance and keith are going to be together. seriously, there's wayyy too much evidence for it not to happen. if they say no queerbait, then klance is the only slowburn romance we can count on. lance is going to fall in love, that is confirmed, but if you look at allura... she doesn't see him romantically, although they do share a very close bond now. allura and lance's relationship is not slowburn. it's a crush that was already established at the beginning of the series. that isn't how slowburns normally start. lance and keith went from rivals, to friends, to... a rather hard to determine admiration. lance was visibly happy when keith was on screen. it was also hinted that lance's sexuality arc is an undertone to s6, and it might be a reach but, the scene with hunk saying something about lance and allura... lance blushed when he mixed up hunk and allura. he seems very distraught about it, and has been repressing it for a while. after moving on from allura, he's going to realize his feelings.
as a bi person, my experiences have been similar. i dated the opposite sex, and it took me a long time to get over, but afterwards i realized my sexuality. it's almost like the person i dated, since they were straight, was blocking out my growth as a person and me realizing my orientation.
i'm sure this is what is happening for lance. i was in denial for a while when thinking about the same sex, and was trying to repress it by being defensive when anything "gay" was rolled my way. it's common to try to hide it, and to be unsure when you're crushing on the opposite sex. normally, you'd think you're straight until you have a chance to look around and realize who you are.
i have hope that klance is going to happen.
just,, remember that thing lauren montgomery drew with lance holding a lgbt sign. don't doubt it. have faith, guys. i'm positive we're going to get representation. that's like, the one thing i'm sure about this show. yeah, it has a lot of problems that make me upset, but next season is an odd number so if i rely on the theory that all odd seasons are better then I'VE GOT HOPE.
so, this thing is almost over, and the only way to ease my pain is to write it out. if you disagree with some things, cool. just don't attack me. if you agree, cool, suffer and hope along with me.
tl;dr - this season was okay, i have a lot of issues that revolve around lance's mental health. i want him to be happy. lgbt rep is going to happen.
if u read all this, DAMN. good for u.

i get rly grumpy about keith here, so i’ll put it behind a cut.
VL/D S7 SPOILERS
Tumblr media
crush. For one, culture and similarities is something that people will connect to. Loto/r was half altean and also had knowledge and abilities similar to her. She wasn't alone in her journey since he helped her gain access to that part of her people that had been lost. Everyone but Lance and Coran liked/trusted Loto/r (and Keith obviously wasn't concerned enough to come back). Allura didn't trust Loto/r right away. He had to prove himself. Which he did for a time. It's not hard to believe -
that Allura would be attracted to Loto/r. At that point she had shared big moments with both Loto/r and Lance. Loto/r was new and had a less defined dynamic w/her. Unlike Lance who had been just a friend/like family. Often times it's easier to forge a dynamic from scratch then re define a already existing one you've been comfortable with. It was all very new. I dont think she was in love with Loto/r. Rather she was reaching the point where she could have (then we find out Loto/r screwed up). -
It's not like someone can't be attracted to only just one person ever. A first love isn't always the lasting one. It's just life. And like life things change and move on. Allura's moved on from Loto/r and her and Lance are becoming even closer. Allura does possibly seem more confident with the idea of possibly re defining her relationship w/Lance. We just have to see how that goes.
they were all stressed as fuck, but keith’s reaction was really ugly and difficult to sympathize with.
lance’s cruel remarks revealed how hurt he was by keith’s departure. this frustrating situation simply gave him the nerve to vocalize how he felt in a way that minimized his own vulnerability. lance was saying how much he cared about keith leaving while trying to pretend that he didn’t care at all. he even called him “mr. lone wolf”, highlighting that it was keith’s distance from them, rather than keith himself, that was so upsetting. he only even brought up the subject because keith was being an asshole anyway.
what did keith’s cruel remarks, which he initiated, reveal? alfor, allura, and hunk--none of them had done anything to warrant him lashing out at them. in fact, he should have been grateful towards allura, considering she had recently revived his brother (which, btw, neither he nor shiro thanked her for).
idk, he just. he really disappointed me this season. i had really hoped that i’d like him more after he matured, but apparently not.
lance knew better than to blame allura for trusting loto/r--and he was there the whole time. keith had been away with the blades and his mother. what did he know about the situation? he hadn’t seen the lengths to which loto/r went to convince everyone, not just allura, that he was trustworthy and good. like you said, if keith was so concerned/suspicious, he could have, y’know, stopped by for a visit to check out loto/r himself, but apparently it wasn’t worth his time.
i agree about allura and loto/r too--she had a crush, which had potential to develop into something more meaningful (if they ever talked about anything that wasn’t related to loto/r’s agenda, lol), and it was easier to act on because it was a fresh relationship. she didn’t really need to define it because loto/r had already established that serious possibility before she even trusted him (the proposal).
i really don’t understand why people are so bothered by the idea of allura moving on from some handsome manipulative prince whom she kissed one (1) time. especially when the person whom she’d be moving on to is her best friend whom she openly cherishes and prioritizes, and had been approaching romance with before loto/r entered the picture and continued to get closer to even after she started crushing on loto/r. like???????????

*throws mediocre content into the void* validate me plz
i was briefly inspired by this prompt list so i wrote this little thing just to write something aslkdfjk it’s literally nothing but fluff so,,,,enjoy?
Fandom: Voltron: Legendary Defender Pairing: Klance / Laith Rating: G (some mentions of drinking fyi) Words: 965 Tags: Fluff without plot, established relationship, cuddling, kissing
It’s definitely the ten-thousand-year-old Altean wine talking, Lance thinks to himself, as Keith approaches minute fifteen of his theory on why there’s a significant lack of plausible Bigfoot evidence. Here they are, stealing away quality necking time, and Drunk Keith just wants to talk about cryptids. Lance probably should have seen it coming, honestly.
“I mean, when you think about it logically—”
Lance can’t help but snort at that, finally pulling away from where he’s been leisurely kissing the column of Keith’s throat to sit up and straddle his lap. His boyfriend continues his intoxicated rambles over cryptids, without even a pause to object, eyes trained on the observation glass above them without really seeing the multitude of stars passing their little hidden blanket nest by. Torn between amusement and exasperation, Lance leans forward and cups Keith’s warm, alcohol-pinkened cheeks in his hands before abruptly squishing them together, effectively cutting Keith’s theorizing short.
“Babe, babe,” he interrupts, laughing, pausing just briefly to peck Keith on his puckered lips, “Shut the fuck up.”
An indignant scowl crosses over his face, though it’s definitely made more of a pout thanks to Lance’s hands. He grins, feels how goofy it probably looks and doesn’t care, and pecks Keith’s mouth again. Quiznak, his boyfriend is cute.
“M’not cute,” Keith mumbles petulantly, frowning up at Lance. Oh, had he said that aloud? Maybe he’s a little tipsy himself. Oh well, it’s the truth.
“You are.” he insists, squishing his cheeks further so Keith can’t deny it, “The cutest. And pretty. Anyway, I’m trying to kiss you here and you’re raving about cryptids,” Lance explains patiently, relaxing his hold so he’s simply cradling his boyfriend’s face instead. Keith blinks at him in slow contemplation for a moment before his mouth pops open to utter a surprised, “Oh.”
“Yeah, oh,” Lance chuckles, leaning in again to rub his nose over Keith’s, heart full to bursting with affection despite his boyfriend’s occasional oblivious moments. Or maybe because of them. “Gotta say, s’not doing much for my ego.”
“Mmm, probably for the best then,” Keith teases. Lance can feel his smile against his lips; he grins back in response.
“Rude,” he mutters, sliding his hands down to cradle the back of Keith’s neck, playing absentmindedly with the hair at his nape. “You’re hurting my oh-so-fragile feelings.” Keith laughs softly, reaching up to encircle Lance’s waist, trailing one hand up and down his spine comfortingly.
“Guess I’ll just have to kiss you better then,” he murmurs, tilting his chin to do just that. His lips slide over Lance’s with practiced ease, a familiar rhythm that has Lance melting against him with a happy hum, pressing closer until their chests are flush. He cards his fingers through his hair, uses it to angle Keith just the right way to deepen their kiss, smirking at the pleased noise it pulls from his boyfriend. Keith nips his lower lip in retaliation, undoubtedly feeling his smugness in the curve of his lips, but keeps their pace slow. Lance doesn’t mind.
It’s nice to have a moment where they don’t have to rush, don’t feel the ingrained need to hurry lest the universe need saving again a tick later; for once, in this moment, stolen away in the deep of night, they can just be. Be exactly what they are, at the end of the day: two boys utterly in love.
Keith pulls back a while later just enough to gaze up at him from beneath his lashes and ask softly, “Better yet?”
Lance pretends to consider the question, gazing up at the ceiling and stroking his chin in mock thought. Then he shakes his head sadly, sighing, “Mmm nope. Your cruel words left a rift on my heart. Definitely gonna need more TLC.”
Keith chuckles faintly, muttering something that sounds suspiciously like ‘you big baby’, but pulls Lance back to him without hesitation. They settle comfortably in their blanket nest, content to cuddle and kiss and whisper between themselves until the buzz of Altean wine leaves their veins and sleep bids them closer. Neither wants to leave the comfort of their makeshift bed, or each other, so Keith pulls a blanket over them without a word. He snuggles in close with a content sigh, one arm wrapped firmly around Lance’s waist.
Smiling, Lance reaches up to tuck stray strands of hair behind his ear, running his thumb over the curve of Keith’s cheek, admiring the smoothness of it. He traces his fingertips over his boyfriend’s fine features lazily, chuckling quietly when Keith scrunches his nose at a particularly ticklish spot near his ear. He makes a grumbly noise in the back of his throat, swatting blindly at Lance’s hip but settles again in the next tick, eyelashes fluttering against his cheeks as his expression goes lax. His lips move in a silent mumble.
“What was that babe?” Lance asks, not really expecting an answer but unable to pass up the opportunity to gently tease Keith even now. So, he can’t help the way his heart jumps in his chest at his boyfriend’s next sleepy, but clear, words.
“Love you,” Keith murmurs on the end of a breathy sigh, sleep having finally won him over. Just as well, Lance thinks as his cheeks burn, otherwise he’d be the one getting teased right now for the stupid, giddy grin no doubt decorating his face. He buries his nose in Keith’s hair to hide his flush, tingling all over at the words still ringing in his ears, before pressing a kiss to the crown of Keith’s head.
“Me too,” he whispers, chest warm and full and overflowing with it, “Love you too.”
Yeah, he thinks as he drifts off towards dreams, Keith’s soft breathing lulling him, he really is the quiznaking cutest.

Klancemas Prompt 2: Lights
I’ll admit, I kind of wanted an excuse to write some Klance Christmas fluff, as well as an excuse to write a continuation in the ‘Break My Fall’ au, so when I saw the Klancemas Week prompts, it seemed like a fun way to do both (we’ll see how many prompts I can accomplish).
Reading ‘Break My Fall’ is probably not required (background for the prompts: its established relationship Klance in a modern setting at this point in the timeline) but here’s the link  if you’d like to read that first.
“This one?”
“Nope.”
“Over here?”
“Too tall. You wouldn’t be able to help me decorate the top branches.”
Keith rolled his eyes, but couldn’t keep up a glare when one of Lance’s arms wrapped around his shoulders and pulled him in close.
They’d almost made it to the cabin when Lance had spotted the tree lot and begged Keith to pull the car over. Keith didn’t really think they needed a live tree, especially since they’d only be staying at the cabin for a few days. But then Lance had called him a heathen and he’d laughed but parked the car.
Now he watched as Lance surveyed each tree, particularly fascinated with Lance’s process. Keith and Shiro had grown up with a fake tree every year, so he had no experience in choosing a real tree, and he had no idea what specific qualities his boyfriend was looking for. Each tree they passed looked…the same to Keith?
When Lance stopped to examine yet another tree option, Keith reached over and tightened Lance’s scarf for him. It was definitely colder up in the mountains than it had been back on their campus, and while Lance was pretty cute with rosy cheeks and a red nose, he didn’t want Lance to freeze. Plus, his boyfriend had a tendency to sneak ice cold fingers up Keith’s shirt to help warm himself up…
“Keith! This one!” Lance finally declared and Keith tilted his head in confusion as he eyed Lance’s choice. It was a pretty green and from what Keith could see, had full branches. But it also barely came up to Keith’s waist.
“Is this like a Charlie Brown tree thing?” Keith asked. “Picking out the tree no one else is going to choose?”
“Shhh! The tree will hear you!”
Lance lifted the tree by its small stand and carried it off towards the register, all while speaking sweetly to it, to make up for Keith’s transgression. And Keith could only smile at the sight, because for the next few days at least, that boy was all his.
When they reached the cabin, Keith pulled the tree from the backseat of his jeep, while admitting only to himself that the small size certainly made it easy to transport. He followed Lance into the cabin, and then went directly to the back room, where he deposited the tree before pausing to look out the windows. Even with all of the colorful fall leaves missing from the trees, he couldn’t get over the sight of the picturesque mountains.
“It’s your second favorite view, huh, babe?”
Lance’s arms wrapped tight around his middle from behind before his chin tucked into Keith’s neck. In return, Keith’s hands landed on Lance’s arms and he leaned his weight back into Lance’s chest before deciding to humor Lance.
“So you think you know what my favorite view is, huh?” he teased.
Lance chuckled into Keith’s neck. “Maybe that overpass downtown with the phrase, ‘Give me back my stapler’ spray painted in red?”
“No.”
“That speedo guy who gave us a show when he wiped out on his surfboard at the beach last summer?”
“No, oh my god!” Keith twisted in Lance’s hold and went for his lips, kissing him hard despite Lance’s continued laughter making the whole thing messy and uncoordinated. He gave up and dropped his head to Lance’s shoulder when he felt his own laughter bubble up.
Lance rested his head on top of Keith’s hair and rocked them back and forth for a moment, a smile still plastered on his face because he was one of the few (outside of the kids they volunteered with) who could make Keith soft and smiley. Then he remembered what he’d brought for Keith and quickly let go him so he could dig through his bag.
“Here!” Lance pulled out a wrapped present, which he tossed to Keith. “Open that while I grab the Christmas ornaments from the attic.”
“You want me to open this now?” Keith called after him, but Lance only sent him a quick grin before he disappeared up the stairs.
Keith tore open the wrapping paper and carefully pulled free a likely handmade red knit sweater. And when Keith held it up so he could clearly see the Christmas tree stitched on the front, his eyes jumped from ornament to ornament, doing his best to take in every little detail that Lance had added to the tree. It was wonderful and soft and looked like it would fit him perfectly. And he was caught smiling stupidly at it when Lance bounded back down the stairs with his arms full of boxes.
“We can’t decorate the tree without our tree trimming sweaters on,” Lance stated with a small grin as he placed the ornament boxes near their small tree.
“Our?” Keith asked. But he didn’t have to wait long for an explanation, because Lance immediately dug a second sweater (this one was a blue that matched Lance’s eyes, and was covered in small green Christmas trees) out of his bag.
“My mamá made this for me years ago — she made them for each of us, actually — and always makes us wear them when we decorate the tree.”
“And you made one for me,” Keith uttered softly as he looked back at his new sweater with a sweet reverence.
“Its McClain family tradition,” Lance replied, his own face filled with adoration as he watched Keith pull off his hoodie and replace it with the red sweater. The sleeves were a little long on him, and Keith’s hair floofed out adorably when his head popped through the top.
Keith had long ago become Lance’s favorite view, but this boy kept upping the ante.
He quickly followed and pulled on his own tree sweater. And when his own head was free, he found Keith directly in front of him, waiting for his face to reappear so he could kiss him in thanks.
“It looks really nice,” Lance murmured between kisses.
“Thank you, Lance.”
Lance smiled in return (he was always smiling around Keith), and then pulled him over to the boxes. They pulled out red ribbon that was long enough to be wrapped around their small tree several times, and Keith was working on that while Lance untangled a string of lights.
“Hey, Keith, do you know what would make your sweater look even better?”
Keith was kneeling in front of their tree, doing his best to get the ribbon wrapped evenly through the branches. He glanced down at his sweater in confusion, quite sure that nothing could improve it.
Keith had his back to him, and when Lance saw Keith’s head bow to look at his sweater, he took advantage of the distraction, and dropped one end of the Christmas lights on Keith’s shoulder before he quickly began to loop the string of lights around his boyfriend’s shoulders.
“Lance!” Keith said with a laugh as he fell back to sit with his feet tucked under him.
“Arms up,” Lance instructed, and then continued his work until Keith’s torso (with his arms free — Lance wasn’t decorating the rest of the tree by himself) was completely wrapped up in lights. He couldn’t help his own beaming smile as he plugged the lights in and was met with the sight of a slightly blushy Keith adorned in beautiful white twinkle lights.
“You’re ridiculous,” Keith said, although his soft tone made it clear to Lance that he really didn’t mind.
“No,” Lance said, with a small shake of his head as his eyes continued to roam over Keith. “What I am is a very lucky man.”
“Lance —”
“Bip, bip, bip!” Lance threw a hand up when he saw Keith begin to rise from his seated position. “Listen, babe, I’m gonna need you to spend the rest of our time up here within two feet of that electrical outlet so the lights will stayed turned on.”
“Lance,” Keith repeated, eyes already darkening as he scooted closer to where Lance sat beside him. “We don’t need an electrical outlet for you to turn me on, babe.”
Keith’s play on his own words made his breath stutter for a second, but it was the only moment of hesitation Lance had before he dove forward and kissed Keith again.
Later, when Keith and Shiro were at their dad’s house to celebrate Christmas, Keith may have scoffed when his dad tried to pull down their fake tree from the attic. And instead, he proudly set up his and Lance’s small tree in the living room, especially after Lance had admitted he’d chosen a small one because he wanted Keith to take it home with him.
He watered it daily. And maybe spoke to it a few times, but he also ended up bribing Shiro to never mention that little fact to anyone. Ever.
Plus, it was always purposefully sitting in the background whenever he and Lance Skyped.
And if he was never going to be able to look at Christmas tree lights again without thinking about Lance, he was okay with that.
